A FRAME THAT HOLDS ENGINE IN VEHICLE IS ROTTED LOOKS LIKE SWISS CHEEZE IT SHOULD BE MADE OUT OF CAST IRON THATS A SAFETY ISSUE
THE REAR AXLE BROKE AT THE WELD. DRIVING UNDER NORMAL SPPED AND DRIVING CONDITIONS, I NOTICED A STRANGE RUBBING SOULD COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AFTER I GOT HOME I NOTICED THE CLEARANCE ON REAR WHEEL AT TOP WAS MUCH LESS THEN OTHER SIDE, AFTER TAKING TO SHOP I WAS THEN INFORMED OF THE CRACKED/BROKEN AXLE. WHEN I RESEARCHED THERE WERE OTHERS WHO'S CAR'S HAD REAR AXLE'S THAT WERE BREAKING AT THE WELDS AROUND THE SAME YEARS 2007-2009 THIS COULD BE A POTENTIALLY DEADLY

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. BROKEN BOLT ON LOWER CONTROL ARM / ONLY 90000 MILES DRIVEN TO WORK ONLY / NOT ABUSED
I AM A RETIRED AUTOSHOP TEACHER {2 YEARS} AND AM ASE CERTIFIED IN, AMONG OTHERS, SUSPENSION AND STEERING. WHILE DRIVING MY YARIS, STARTED TO HEAR A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION. SUDDENLY, A LOUD BANG WHILE SOMETHING BROKE OFF THE CAR AND HIT THE UNDERBODY. ON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM REARWARD BOLT, WHICH EXTENDS THROUGH A CENTER SUPPORT AND IS BOLTED TO THE VEHICLE BODY, HAD SNAPPED OFF ABOUT HALFWAY. I DROVE THE CAR HOME, ABOUT 3 MILES, BUT THE DRIVEABILITY OF THE VEHICLE WAS AFFECTED, THE STEERING BECAME VAGUE AND THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AND LOUDER. THERE IS A TSB, NUMBER 005-11 ON THIS PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA FAILS TO ADMIT IN THIS OR EARLIER TSBS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM, WHICH IN MY OPINION, IT CLEARLY IS. THIS IS NOT AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM, AS AN INTERNET SEARCH FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAD EXPERIENCED THIS. THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN A RECALL!
I WAS DRIVING BELOW THE 30MPH SPEED LIMIT ALONG A CITY STREET AND HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE FROM REAR RIGHT OF THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND SAW THAT THE BACK RIGHT REAR CORNER OF THE CAR WAS DOWN CLOSE TO THE WHEEL. THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS IN ITS USUAL PLACE. I CALLED A TOWING COMPANY AND THEY FLATBEDDED ME TO TOYOTA IN SANTA FE, NM AT 5PM ON A SATURDAY EVENING. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT TOYOTA THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER HANDED ME THE LARGE SPRING WHICH HAD FALLEN OFF THE CAR. TOYOTA REPLACED THE MISSING UPPER INSULATION DISC AND PUT THE REAR RIGHT SPRING BACK IN PLACE AND I DROVE 5 HOURS HOME. THE INSULATION DISC COULD HAVE FALLEN OUT ONTO THE STREET AND I DID NOT KNOW TO LOOK FOR IT. THE REAR SPRINGS CAN EASILY BE LEVERED OUT OF PLACE WITH A SCREWDRIVER SO MY CAR MECHANIC ATTACHED THE BOTTOM OF THE SPRING TO THE CRADLE IT SITS ON AND WELDED A GUARD TO THE CRADLE SO THAT THE SPRINGS CANNOT JUMP OUT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE DRIVING SLOWLY ON A CITY STREET INSTEAD FAST ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE FILED A REPORT WITH TOYOTA SO THEY CAN FIX THIS, IN MY OPINION, DESIGN FLAW. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BOLT ON THE FRONT CONTROL ARM WAS FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

HEARD A BANGING SOUND FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, CAME TO FIND ONE OF 3 CONTROL ARM BOLTS HAD RUSTED OUT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED BOTH SIDES FOR PREVENTATIVE MEASURES. *TR
LEFT SUBFRAME BOLT COMPLETELY RUSTED AND BROKE OFF OF FRAME. NO DAMAGE OR OVER-TORQUING OF BOLT OCCURRED. KNOWN PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA YAIS SUBFRAME BOLTS. *TR
I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE JUST AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE OR REPAIR ANYTHING. I HAVE REPLACED REAR SHOCKS, FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS, AND NOW AM HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. IT SEEMS THE ENTIRE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE NEEDS REPLACEMENT. THE PROBLEMS BEGAN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AFTER THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED. AT THAT TIME, THE CAR HAD ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT. THE ONLY RESPONSE TOYOTA PROVIDED WAS "SORRY, YOUR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED." ALL MECHANICS I HAVE DISCUSSED THESE ISSUES WITH AGREE THAT SUCH REPAIRS SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY ON A VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN ABUSED OR DRIVEN HARD. IT HAS HAD ALL MAINTENANCE DONE AS SUGGESTED BY IT MANUFACTURER. THESE ISSUES SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY TOYOTA AS WARRANTY REPAIRS SINCE THEY ARE ALL OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. I DRIVE A TOYOTA 2008 YARIS (TOYOTA VIOS HERE IN D PHILPPINES)WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN 20,000 KMS(20,014KMS) ON D ODOMETER. I NOTICED AN INTERMITTENT NOISE ON D FRONT END SUSPENSION PASSENGER SIDE. I BROUGHT TO D DEALER FOR AN ASSESSMENT OF THE PROBLEM, AFTER THEIR ASSESSMENT TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND THEY WOULD REPLACE IT. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THERE WAS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR SAYING THAT THE VOLTAGE "ISN'T UP TO STANDARD." AFTER A FEW DAYS I GOT MY VEHICLE BACK FROM TOYOTA. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPLACED THE FRONT RIGHT SHOCK ABSORBER. I ASKED THEM WHY ONLY ONE SHOCK ABSORBER WAS REPLACED AS THE USUAL PROCEDURE WAS THAT BOTH FRONT SHOCK ABSORBERS SHOULD BE REPLACED, THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD THAT TOYOTA IS BECOMING MORE STRICT WITH WARRANTY POLICIES AND THE ONLY PART THAT THEY WILL REPLACE IS THE DEFECTIVE PART. FURTHERMORE THE DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR SAID IF IT WAS UP TO THEM THEY NORMALLY ALWAYS REPLACE BOTH SHOCK ABSORBERS BUT BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S STRICT WARRANTY POLICY THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE ONE SHOCK ABSORBER. THIS SEEMS TO BE ANOTHER INSTANCE OF TOYOTA CUTTING CORNERS TO SAVE COST AT THE EXPENSE OF CAR SAFETY.
