I DEC 19TH 2011 I EXPERIENCED WHAT I BELIEVE WAS A HARD START. WEATHER IN THE MORNING WAS IN THE TEENS, AFTERNOON IN THE LOW 40S. LEAVE WORK, GET IN CAR, PUT KEY IN IGNITION & TURN TO ON POSITION, PUT SEAT BELT ON, AND START. CAR STARTS RIGHT AWAY BUT IS IDLING ROUGH, SHAKING VIOLENTLY LIKE A WASHING MACHINE OFF BALANCE. I DROP INTO NEUTRAL AND REV IT UP TO 2K, STILL IDLES ROUGH FOR ABOUT A MINUTE MORE BUT DOES NOT STALL. I EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THIS ONCE WHEN MY SUBARU LEGACY'S #2 INJECTOR QUIT, A MISFIRING BOXER ENGINE DOES NOT IDLE SMOOTH. THE RIDE HOME WAS UNEVENTFUL, STOPPED AT THE BANK AND RESTARTED FINE. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL THIS MORNING, TEMPS IN THE LOW 40S. WHAT I BELIEVE HAPPENED TO MY CAR WAS MOISTURE ACCUMULATED IN THE INNER COOLER AND WAS INGESTED INTO THE INTAKE TRACT CAUSING A "HAMMERING EFFECT" AS THE ENGINE TRIED TO COMPRESS THIS MOISTURE. VW HAS ISSUED A TSB #21 11 06/2025464 BUT NO RECALL AS YET. WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE THEY FOUND NO MOISTURE SO NOTHING WAS DONE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE COULD INGEST THIS MOISTURE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE CAR TO STOP AND STRAND IN AN UNSAFE LOCATION. A RECALL AND FIX SHOULD BE ISSUED. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL AND THEN STOPPED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT IT CONTINUED TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 VW GOLF TDI WILL STALL/HESITATE FOR A SECOND OR TWO. I EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE ABOUT ONCE EVERY COUPLE WEEKS. I REPORTED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY REPORTED THAT COULD NOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR. *TR
2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. WITHIN FOUR MONTHS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, IT CAME TO STOP ON ITS OWN WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AND HAS CONTINUED TO DO SO PERIODICALLY FOR A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR, AS SHE RELEASED THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE, RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL, ACCELERATED OR ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE ISSUE OFTEN DID NOT REPLICATE FOR MONTHS. *JB
2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF TDI 6 SPEED MANUAL: CLUTCH AND IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. VEHICLE IS CLEARLY ONE OF THE EASIEST CARS TO STALL. OWNER HAS BEEN DRIVING FOR 27 YEARS, PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED DRIVER AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND DRIVEN NUMEROUS MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES IN DEMANDING SITUATIONS. THIS VEHICLE HAS VERY LONG CLUTCH TRAVEL BUT AN EXTREMELY SHORT ENGAGEMENT. CAR NOTORIOUSLY STALLS VERY EASILY BECAUSE OF THIS. VEHICLE IS DESIGNED WITH AN APPARENT BUILT IN 750 RPM STALL METER...IE CAR WILL NOT REMAIN RUNNING IF IN GEAR AND AT OR BELOW 750 RPM'S. SECONDLY, DUE TO THE STALLING OF THE ENGINE, THE NEXT INFERIOR DESIGN ISSUE IS THAT VW IGNITIONS REQUIRE YOU TO COMPLETELY MANUALLY CYCLE OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH (AS WHEN THE CAR IS STALLED) THEN RECYCLE THE IGNITION SWITCH TO RESTART THE MOTOR. THEREFORE, WHEN YOU STALL THE CAR, AS EASILY AS IT HAPPENS, SUCH AS MOVING OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION FROM A STOP SIGN, YOU MUST RAPIDLY TURN IGNITION SWITCH COUNTER CLOCKWISE, FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY CLOCKWISE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS LEAVING YOU DISABLED WHERE ANOTHER VEHICLE COULD EASILY COLLIDE WITH YOU. VW APPARENTLY FEELS THIS TYPE OF IGNITION "SAFETY" IS NECESSARY TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF DAMAGING AN IGNITION IF ONE WERE TO ATTEMPT TO TURN OVER AN ALREADY RUNNING ENGINE, WHEN ONE FORGOT IT WAS RUNNING. IF THIS IS SUCH A GREAT DESIGN WHY DON'T OTHER CAR MANUFACTURES ALSO USE THIS FEATURE? AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE SEVERELY DAMAGING AN IGNITION BY TURNING OVER AN IGNITION ON AN ALREADY RUNNING ENGINE. *TR
2010 VW GOLF TDI 2DR, 6 SPEED MANUAL: LOSS OF POWER OCCURS ON OCCASION, TYPICALLY UNDER HARD ACCELERATION AFTER SHIFTING FROM 1ST INTO 2ND AND PUSHING DOWN ACCELERATOR, CAR WILL LOSE ALL POWER, BUT NOT STALL, FOR 2-5 SECONDS FOLLOWED BY REGAINING POWER. WHEN IT REGAINS POWER THERE IS A HUGE PLUME OF WHITE SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE THAT QUICKLY DISSIPATES, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE FUEL OR WATER. CAR ALSO DONE EXACTLY SAME EVEN WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS A CAR: DOWNSHIFTING FROM 5TH TO 3RD GEAR, HITTING THE ACCELERATOR AND EXACT SAME LAG/LOSS OF POWER. CAR NOW HAS 15K MILES AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ABOUT 6-10 TIMES OVER THE PAST 6 MONTHS. DEALERSHIP MECHANICS CLAIM THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE OR FIND ANY ERROR CODES PLUS CLAIMING THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS TYPE OF COMPLAINT, ALSO THEY CLAIM/SUGGEST THIS COULD BE A POOR FUEL ISSUE, SUGGESTING GOING TO ANOTHER GAS STATION. SALESPERSON WHO SOLD ME CAR INFORMED ME, OFF THE RECORD, THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT AND THEIR IS SAFETY CAMPAIGN CURRENTLY GOING ON WITH THE 2009 JETTA TDI, BUT CLEARLY THIS IS THE SAME ENGINE AS THE '09. THIS TYPE OF COMPLAINT IS ALSO ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND FOUND IN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE 2009 JETTA TDI ON THIS SAME WEBSITE, THEREFORE IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE A COVER-UP WHEN THE MECHANICS TELL ME THEY'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANY COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS??? AS A VETERAN LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER AND ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS, THIS IS A VERY MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
IN OCT. 2009, I PURCHASED A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. WITHIN FOUR MONTHS, IT BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS. EVERY FEW MONTHS SINCE, IT HAS COME TO A HALT WHILE I AM DRIVING. THE RADIO AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS ALL OPERATE, BUT THE CAR NO LONGER MOVES. YOU MUST TURN IT OFF THEN BACK ON AT LEAST ONCE. I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED ACCIDENTS WITH MULTIPLE CARS AND AN 18-WHEELER ON I-95 AND US1 IN MIAMI. THE CAR HAS EVEN COME TO A HALT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. IT HAS ALSO STOPPED AFTER TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN A TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED FROM RED TO GREEN, AND WHEN SWITCHING LANES. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO MULTIPLE VW DEALERSHIPS, BUT THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND IT DOES NOT LOG ON THE CAR'S COMPUTER. SOME OF THE MECHANICS HAVE NOTED THAT OTHER CARS HAVE COME IN WITH SIMILAR ISSUES, ESPECIALLY GOLFS, AND 2.5L JETTAS. THE CAR HAS DONE THIS FIVE TIMES AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR AT LEAST 30 CUMULATIVE DAYS. I AM WORKING TO TRY TO GET VW TO REFUND ME UNDER THE FLORIDA LEMON LAW. AT ONE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WOULD HAVE TO GET WORSE BEFORE THEY COULD DO ANYTHING. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP PROMISED TO CONTACT VW CORPORATE AND SUGGESTED I CALL HIM TO FOLLOW UP; HOWEVER, HE DID NOT RETURN MY CALL. AFTER I CONTACTED VW CORPORATE, THEY SENT SOMEONE TO MEET ME AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND HE WAS 30 MINUTES LATE FOR OUR APPOINTMENT. WHEN I CALLED THE PERSON WHO HAD ARRANGED THIS MEETING TO DETERMINE IF THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS STILL COMING, MY CALL WAS NOT RETURNED. I HAVE MISSED WORK, SPENT HOURS RESEARCHING THIS MATTER AND FOLLOWING THE PROTOCOL ASSOCIATED WITH THE LEMON LAW, AND SPENT MONEY ON TOLLS ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPENSES RELATED TO ALTERNATIVE DRIVING ARRANGEMENTS. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR, AND AVOID DRIVING IT WHENEVER POSSIBLE. FINALLY, I HAVE READ ABOUT YOUR INVESTIGATION INTO VW CARS STALLING AND WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT LIMITED TO DIESEL CARS, AS MY CAR RUNS ON REGULAR UNLEADED. *TR
NEW VEHICLE TDI FUEL PUMP AND FULL FUEL SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED!!! *TR
UPON MAKING A LANE CHANGE TO MERGE INTO A FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC LANE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED NORMALLY FOR ONE SECOND THEN LOST ALL ENGINE POWER LEAVING ME IN A DANGEROUS POSITION. UPON DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH, THE ENGINE STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER WHICH IT WORKED NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES SINCE. IT USUALLY CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION SUCH AS LEAVING THE CAR WITHOUT POWER IN AN ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE DURING A LEFT TURN OR MOVING TOO SLOWLY IN A MERGING MANEUVER. SOMETIMES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL ALSO COME ON AND THE GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHT STARTS FLASHING. CLOUDS OF WHITE SMOKE ALWAYS APPEAR AT THE TAIL PIPE DURING THE POWER LOSS. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED A SENSOR 4 TIMES WHICH MAKES THE WARNING LIGHTS GO OUT, BUT THE ENGINE CUTTING OUT PROBLEM IS NEVER ADDRESSED. VW SIMPLY STATE "CANNOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM" AND RETURN THE VEHICLE. THE BEHAVIOR IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTRAINTS (HEADRESTS) ARE TILTED FORWARD SO AGGRESSIVELY THAT DRIVING ABILITY IS IMPAIRED, AND SIGNIFICANT ERGONOMIC DISCOMFORT RESULTS FROM VW'S INTERPRETATION OF THIS NHTSA REQUIREMENT. PLEASE ADJUST YOUR REQUIREMENTS TO REFLECT A BETTER BALANCE BETWEEN SAFETY AND DRIVABILTY. THANK YOU. *TR
ENGINE STALLS, ON STARTING FROM STOP, SOMETIMES WHEN GOING DOWN HILL, OR OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. SEEMS TO STALL WHEN RPM GOES BELOW 750. COMMONLY STALLS IN INTERSECTION, RESULTING IN DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE ONE RESTARTS CAR. COMPLAINED TO DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX PROBLEM. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH STALLS DAILY TO ONCE EVERY SEVERAL DAYS. HAS BEEN DOING IT SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GULF TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED SO THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED IT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,700. UPDATED 01/06/11*LJ UPDATED 04/07/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF AND THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT STAYED ON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL 20 ROLLER LIFTERS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ON GOING AND THAT VOLKSWAGEN HAD REFUSED TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS ALSO A HIGH PITCH SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 400 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1600.
2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF TDI 6 SPEED MANUAL STALLS EXTREMELY OFTEN. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2006 VOLKSWAGEN GTI WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT. 2010 GOLF HAS CURRENTLY 12.000 MILES ON IT AND THE PROBLEM DOESN'T GO AWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO TAKE OFF AND CLEAR THE INTERSECTION. THEREFORE I THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. AS PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS STATE, APPARENTLY THE CARS IMMEDIATELY STALLS AS SOON AS YOU FALL BELOW 750RPM. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL AND THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT! I HAVE TO ENTER AN APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE BUT IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. THEREFORE THE DATE IS SOMEWHAT USELESS. *TR
WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON AN ILLINOIS HIGHWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND HEARD A TAPPING COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AFTER LOSING POWER. THEN DIESEL FUEL STARTED SPRAYING ALL OVER THE CAR AND THE HIGHWAY. PULLED OVER AND FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO CLEAN UP AS MUCH FUEL AS THEY COULD. CAR WAS TOWED TO LOCAL VW DEALER. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE FUEL LINE TO INJECTOR FOR CYLINDER #2 WAS LEAKING. THEY REMOVED AND REPLACED THIS PART. 03L-130-301-R LINE WAS REPLACED. *TR
ON A HIGHWAY THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS IN CRUISE CONTROL. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE ENGINE CAME TO LIFE. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY DEALER WHO SAID THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THAT THEY COULD FIND. THE CAR IS A 2 MONTH OLD VW GOLF TDI. *TR
AFTER LEASING A BRAND NEW CAR FOR 2 DAYS (WITH ONLY 221 MILES ON THE ODOMETER) THE CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT START, LEADING TO VERY DANGEROUS FOR LIFE AND STRESSFUL(I HAD TWO FINAL EXAMS COMING UP WITHIN 2 DAYS COMING GOT)SITUATION. AFTER THE CAR GOT TOWED TO THE OFFICIAL VW DEALERSHIP AT FLADEBOE ON JUNE 3RD, IT TOOK THEM 5 DAYS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR THE CAR. THERE WAS NO INJECTOR PULSE AND ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. ALSO, THE CAR GOT SCRATCHED WHILE IN REPAIR.I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL CAR, AND ALTHOUGH I WAS TOLD BY THE VW STUFF THAT THE COVER ALL THE COSTS, I ENDED UP PAYING $63 FOR RENTING OUT A TOYOTA FROM "ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR". FEW DAYS AGO, I FOUND OUT THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK AT ALL IN THE CAR, THE REAR VIEW MIRROR CANNOT NOT ADJUST COMPLETELY AND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR JAMS WHENEVER THE CAR MANUAL IS PLACED INSIDE. I AM ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM WORKED BEFORE THE REPAIR AT FLADEBOE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN BRAKING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE IS AN ACTIVE INVESTIGATION INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM, WHICH DEALS THE THIS STALLING ISSUE WITH THE DIESEL ON THE 2009 JETTA, AND THAT THE 2010 MODEL YEAR HAS THE SAME ENGINE. THE DEFECT CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS PE10034. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,800.
2010 VW GOLF TDI 285 MILES SUNROOF EXPLODED. NO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. IN DOING RESEARCH ON EDMONDS.COM I FOUND TWO OTHER 2010 VW JETTA WITH SAME ISSUE. VW SAYS CAUSED BY EXTERNAL INFLUENCES AND DOES NOT WANT TO COVER IT YET THE DEALER DID UNDER GOOD WILL. THE EVENT WAS VERY TRAUMATIC AND VERY EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURIES AS WELL AS A ACCIDENT. *TR
