PURCHASE THE CAR ON APRIL 2018 ON FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 21ST AROUND 3 P.M. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SR 14 GOING AROUND 55 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN SUDDENLY A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION FOLLOWED BY HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF CHARRED GLASS FALLING DOWN FROM THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF THE EXPLOSION WAS SO LOUD THAT FOR A MOMENT I THOUGHT THAT SOMEONE WAS SHOOTING AT MY CAR VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS THAT DEBRIS ON THE ROAD OR PASSING CARS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE EXPLOSION OF THE SUN ROOF I JUST WANT TO MENTION THAT THERE WERE NO CARS NEAR ME AND AFTER I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE SUNROOF BLEW UP FROM THE INSIDE OUT VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IT'S NOT WILLING TO ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY
DEFECTIVE TIRE. 8,000 MILES ON TIRE AND A SIDEWALL BUBBLE DEVELOPED ON THE TIRE. PRIOR TO BUBBLE APPEARING, TIRE WAS NOT SUBJECT TO UNUSUAL IMPACT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE "FRONT ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LIBERTY VOLKSWAGEN (920 S MILWAUKEE AVE, LIBERTYVILLE, IL 60048, (847) 680-8000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO CONNECT TO THE SERVER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,200. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
SHATTERED SUNROOF FOR 2017 VW GOLF GTI. SUNROOF SHATTERED FOLLOWING A LOUD NOISE WITH NO OBVIOUS DIRECT CAUSE. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES AHEAD AND NO OVERHEADS OR BRIDGES IN THE AREA. EVENT TOOK PLACE ON AUGUST 16TH, 2018 ON A SUNNY MORNING (75-80F), AT 45-55MPH. THE ENTIRE SUNROOF CRACKED FOLLOWING THE LOUD NOISE AND SMALL PIECES BEGAN TO SLOWLY FALL ON TOP OF THE SEE-THROUGH FABRIC SUNROOF SHADE THAT WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. LARGER PORTIONS OF THE SUNROOF FELL AS THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO A SAFE LOCATION TO REMOVE THE REMAINING GLASS. SHATTERING GLASS POSES A SAFETY CONCERN TO DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, IN ADDITION TO NEARBY MOTORISTS THAT COULD GET IMPACTED BY THE GLASS DEBRIS AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE USE OF LAMINATED GLASS COULD PREVENT THIS SAFETY CONCERN TO MOTORISTS.
THIS IS THE SECOND RECORDED INSTANCE OF THIS ISSUE. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED ON JULY 27. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45MPH ON AN INCLINE THE VEHICLE ENGINE SUDDENLY INCREASED TO 3000RPM AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPED RESPONDING. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES AND PULL OVER TO SIDE OF THE ROAD. ONCE VEHICLE REACHED 0MPH IT IDLED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEGAN FUNCTIONING NORMALLY AGAIN. TOOK THE VW DEALER SERVICE CENTER THE NEXT DAY. ONCE AGAIN THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM CODES. SERVICE CENTER TRIED TO RETURN VEHICLE AGAIN BUT WE PERSISRED. MECHANIC OFFERED TO TEST DRIVE FOR A FEW DAYS TO SEE IF HE COULD RECREATE THE ISSUE BUT IT DID NOT REOCCUR. CONTACTED VW CORPORATE AND REGION CASE MANAGER INFORMED US THAT THEIR TECHNICAL TEAM WOULD WORK WITH THE SERVICE CENTER. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THEY STILL CONTINUE TO CLAIM THEY CAN FIND NO PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE TO REPAIR.
THE CAR IS ONE YEAR OLD, AND THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF IS LEAKING. I CONTACTED VW AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THEY WILL NEED TO HAVE THE CAR IN THE SHOP TO SEE IF IT IS A STRUCTURAL ISSUE. THE WATER IS COMING IN ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND ON THE CENTER CONSOLE ABOVE ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL (LIGHTS, SWITCHES FOR SUNROOF, ETC) COMPONENTS. THE WINDSHIELD STAYS FOGGED UP WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE MOISTURE IN THE CABIN. THIS AFFECTS VISIBILITY. VW SHOULD RECALL THIS VEHICLE TO REPAIR. A RENTAL CAR WILL BE COSTLY, AND VW HAS OFFERED NO LOANER TO ME.
TRAVELING ALONG A SLIGHTLY HILLY ROAD AT 35MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SPIKED TO 3000RPM AND THE CAR'S ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPED FUNCTIONING. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES AND PULL TO THE SIDE. ONCE CAR REACHED 0MPH IT IDLED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEGAN FUNCTIONING AGAIN. TOOK TO VW DEALER SERVICE CENTER NEXT DAY. THEY REPORTED THAT THEY COULD FIND NO PROBLEM CODES. THEY CHANGED OIL, ROATATED TIRES AND RETURNED THE CAR. PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED AND REOCCURED ON AUGUST 8.
BRAKES SEIZED.
WATER IS LEAKING FROM SUN ROOF. I FOUND STAIN ON THE CEILING HERE AND THERE.
PANORAMIC SUNROOF LEAKS. HEADLINER I AND CARPET IS BADLY STAINED WITH VISIBLE MOLD GROWTH. PILLAR STAINING AS WELL. WATER LEAKS FROM DOME LIGHT AND SUNROOF CONTROL BUTTONS. WATER ALSO LEAKS INTO FOOT WELL. TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP WHO HAVE SAID THAT IT IS LIKELY THE SUNROOF DRAINS ARE BLOCKED BY DEBRIS AND REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE CONSUMER TO ACCESS THE SUNROOF DRAINS TO KEEP THEM CLEAR, PARTICULARLY THE REAR DRAINS, WHICH ENTAILS DISMANTLING PART OF THE CAR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MANY REPORTED COMPLAINTS BY OWNERS WITH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BEING ISSUED. PLEASE ENCOURAGE AN INVESTIGATION AND REPARATIONS FROM VW.
THE SUNROOF LEAKS WATER FROM ALL FOUR COUNTERS INTO THE VEHICLE: HEADLINER, SEATS, CARPET AND DASHBOARD. WARNING SIGNALS/ERRORS MESSAGES: AIR BAG, TRACTION, ENGINE LIGHT. 2500 MILES ON VEHICLE PURCHASED 3/18 NEW. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY DURING A MAJOR RAIN STORM.
THERE'S A WATER LEAK COMING FROM THE PANORAMIC SUNROOF. THE CAR IS USUALLY GARAGE KEPT BUT I HAD IT PARKED OUTSIDE ONE WEEKEND WHEN WE HAD BAD STORMS AND THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED THE WATER STAINS IN MY HEADLINER AND THE WATER DRIPPING DOWN INTO THE BACK HATCH AREA. THE DEALER HAD TO SEND THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP TO HAVE THEM GRIND DOWN WELDS THAT HAVE CAUSED AN OBSTRUCTION IN THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM. THERE'S STAINS IN THE HEADLINER AND AN ODOR THAT'S COMING FROM IT SO IT APPEARS TO HAVE MOLD. THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO FIX THE LEAK AND INSTALL A NEW HEADLINER BUT I'M ALSO WORRIED OF ANY ELECTRICAL DAMAGE THAT MAY ARISE AS A RESULT. IT'S BEEN ABOUT 4 WEEKS NOW AND THEY ARE STILL TRYING TO REPAIR THIS. I FEEL LIKE THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE AND YET THEY STILL SOLD ME THE CAR EVEN KNOWING THIS COULD BE A POSSIBILITY. I PURCHASED THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2017 AND I BOUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR IN JUNE 2018. THIS IS MY SECOND VOLKSWAGEN BUT WILL PROBABLY BE MY LAST. I NEED A RELIABLE CAR THAT I CAN DRIVE AND NOT ONE THAT SITS IN A REPAIR SHOP FOR WEEKS NOT KNOWING IF THE ISSUE WILL ACTUALLY BE RESOLVED. FROM OTHER FORUMS I'VE READ, THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND MANY OTHERS ARE GOING THROUGH THIS SAME PAINFUL PROCESS.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. FOLLOWING RAIN, WATER LEAKED INTO THE CAR FROM THE PANORAMIC ROOF AT THE A-, B-, AND C-PILLARS AND REAR HATCH ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES OF THE CAR. WATER DRIPPED FROM THE DASH ONTO THE FRONT FOOT WELLS. WATER ENTERING THE PILLARS COULD COME INTO CONTACT WITH PILLAR-MOUNTED AIRBAGS AND WITH ELECTRICAL CONTROLS AND SYSTEMS MOUNTED IN THE DASH.
SUNROOF LEAKING CAUSES EXCESSIVE MOISTURE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY ON WINDSHIELD AND INSIDE OF WINDOWS. WINDSHIELD FOGGING PROBLEM ON START UP AND IS EXASPERATED IN HEAVY RAIN WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MORE MOISTURE GETS INTO CAR. SUNROOF DRAIN HOLES ARE NOT CLOGGED AS VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 4 MONTHS OLD. WATER EVIDENCE IS SEEN AS STAINS DOWN BOTH 'A' PILLARS AND HEADLINER ABOVE PASSENGER AND DRIVER FRONT SIDE WINDOWS.
2017 VW GOLF ALLTRACK: HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR FOUR MONTHS NOW AND JUST HAD THREE DAYS WORTH OF RAIN HERE IN MICHIGAN. THE FRONT OF THE HEADLINER IS COMPLETELY SOAKED ON BOTH A-PILLARS AND AROUND THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE OF THE VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY WELDS THAT DIDN'T GET SMOOTHED DOWN AND THEREFORE PINCH THE TUBES THAT DRAIN THE TROUGH IN THE SUNROOF AREA NOT ALLOWING IT TO FLOW BACK INTO THE OPENING IN THE CAR. IN OTHER WORDS, VW SOLD ME A CAR WITH A KNOWN DEFECT! NOW I HAVE TO TURN MY CAR IN FOR SOME UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME, HAVE THEM TEAR THE INSIDE APART, TAKE THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP AND HAVE THE BODY SHOP GRIND THE WELDS DOWN SMOOTH, THEN INSTALL A NEW HEADLINER IN THE CAR. THAT'S ALL GREAT (NOT REALLY), BUT WATER IS INCREDIBLY DESTRUCTIVE, SO WHAT ABOUT THE WATER THAT'S RUN DOWN THE A-PILLARS AND GOTTEN IN TO THE INSULATION IN THE DOORS? OR THE WATER THAT RAN LIKE A FAUCET OUT OF MY OVERHEAD CONSOLE THIS MORNING WHEN I STARTED DRIVING THAT DUMPED ALL OVER MY ELECTRONICS AND TRANSMISSION COLUMN? WHAT ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF WATER THAT WON'T BE LOOKED FOR IN THIS APPARENT FIX OF A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEN TURNS INTO BLACK MOLD THAT I AND MY FAMILY BREATH EVERY DAY FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR?! THIS HAS TO BE CORRECTED AS THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOLD TO ME AND MY FAMILY WITH A KNOWN DEFECT.
Front suspension creaking noise. Front suspension creaking noise during suspension cycles (going over speed bumps or entering on an inclined surface) due to I believe Coil Spring not formed correctly and rubs against the perch of the strut or other issues/manufacturer defects with the front suspension. See also technical bulletin for 2012-2019 Passat stating similar issues: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10155776-9999.pdf I had originally reported a creaking noise to the dealer service center while my vehicle was still under warranty. The dealer claimed it was not able to recreate the sound, which I believe to be a false statement as it is very easy to recreate as it occurs every time I pull into my driveway or go over a speed bump. I stated this at the time however I suspect they didn’t want to replace under warranty or take ownership of the defect / recall. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I have not sought a second opinion from an independent service center yet. I believe this poses a safety concern for both myself and many others. It continues to creak because VW refuses to admit there is a problem. Please help, thank you!
THE MOON ROOF HAS BEEN LEAKING WATER THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE RADIO BACK UP CAMERA NAVIGATION SYSTEM HAVE NOT BEEN WORKING THERE'S WATER THAT CAME ALL IN THROUGH THE FRONT BY THE WINDSHIELD THE TWO PILLARS AND NOW IT'S HAPPENING IN THE BACK IT WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY
WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR IT CAME LIFTED WITH BIGGER WHEELS AND TIRES. THEY DID NOT TELL US IT WAS AFTERMARKET AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT IS NOT SAFE TO BE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE IT KEEPS BLOWING THE REAR SHOCKS. IT BLOWS THE REAR SHOCKS AND BASICALLY YOUR DRIVING JUST ON COIL SPRINGS . WHICH MEANS LACK OF CONTROL TO THE VEHICLE.IT HAS BEEN ON GOING SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR FOR ABOUT 8 MONTHS.
JUNE 16,2017 , I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND ATTEMPTED TO LEAVE THE PARKING SPACE. ALL WHEEL BRAKES WERE LOCKED/THE CAR STALLED. 2-3 MINUTES LATER, THEY FREED UP. ON FEB.15,2018 WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC ON RT.580 IN DUNEDIN, THEY LOCKED UP AGAIN. 2-3 MINUTES LATER, THEY FREED UP AND I SHUT OFF MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS. MARCH 28 ,2018 , DITTO IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER JUST BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE. TWO VW DEALERS ON MAR.22 AND AGAIN ON APRIL 5, THEIR COMPUTERS COULD FIND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY SCAN OF THE INTERNET ALL POINTED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AS THE PROBLEM. *JS *JS
TAKATA RECALL HAVING AN ISSUE WITH ACC OR ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, INFO SCREEN SAYS ACC NOT AVAILABLE, THIS IS SECOND TIME HAPPENING, FIRST TIME DEALER SAID IT JUST NEEDS CALIBRATION, IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, ONCE IT EXPIRES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN, IT WILL BE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. PLEASE TAKE ACTION TO THIS MATTER, MULTIPLE PEOPLE BEEN HAVING SAME ISSUE.
WAS DRIVING ON THE FREE WAY WHEN SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD BANG THAT SOUNDED LIKE A FUN SHOT. IMMEDIATELY I HEARD A CRACK AND PIECES OF GLASS FROM MY SUNROOF STARTED FALLING INTO MY CAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THERE WAS NO ROCKS OR ANYTHING IN THE CAR. FURTHERMORE THE GLASS SEEMED TO BE PUSHED OUTWARD TOWARD THE OUTSIDE WHICH MADE ME THINK IT EXPLODED FROM DEFECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V464000 (STEERING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. VOLKSWAGEN OF CHERRY HILL (2261 MARLTON PIKE W, CHERRY HILL, NJ 08002, (888) 486-1840) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE. *BF *TR
LOW AND HIGH BEAM LAMPS ARE INADEQUATE AND DO NOT SUFFICIENTLY ILLUMINATE THE ROAD. MUCH DIMMER THAN ANY CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS LIGHTING ISSUE.
ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AFTER I GOT THE CAR, IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT (AND NOW WHEN YOU TURN IT BACK TO THE RIGHT TO STRAIGHTEN OUT) NOTICEABLE AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS SUCH AS PULLING IN AND OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. I TOOK IT TO THE RENO VW AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO NOISE. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN MONTHS LATER AND FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NO NOISE, AND I ASKED THAT THEY CHECK IT AGAIN. THEN THEY TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS FROM MY BIKE RACK WHICH IS ON THE REAR OF MY CAR, ONLY ON IN THE SUMMER, AND THE NOISE IS THERE YEAR ROUND IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THEN THEY GOT ON THE PHONE WITH "TECH SUPPORT" AND WERE TOLD IT'S A CLOCK SPRING AND IT'S A NORMAL NOISE. IN FORTY YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER HEARD SUCH A NOISE. TWO PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE THE SAME CAR, AND THEIR VEHICLES DO NOT MAKE THIS NOISE. I SEE THAT VW HAS HAD CLOCK SPRING RECALLS ON SOME OF THEIR OTHER VEHICLES. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND THIS SHOULD BE FIXED. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT I WOULD PREFER TO AVOID.
VEHICLE HAD 300 MILES ON ENGINE WHEN LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATOR REGISTERED. CAUSE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN OIL, ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER AS TOLD TO DEALER. MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTED DEALER TO REPLACE ENGINE AND ALL ASSOCIATED PARTS LUBRICATED BY ENGINE OIL AND SEND NON-FUNCTIONING ENGINE TO MANUFACTURER'S RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FACILITY; STATED THAT PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED, ALBEIT INFREQUENTLY, TO OTHER LIKE ENGINES. WARRANTY COVERED ALL COSTS. I HAVE INVOICES FOR AUTO PURCHASE AND REPAIR.
LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAMS. THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVERY HAD, WITH REGARDS TO ITS HEADLIGHTS AND MY AND MY FAMILY'S SAFETY DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE RANGE OF LIGHT IS SO INADEQUATE WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THAT I AM ALMOST FEARFUL FOR MYSELF AND FAMILY. I LIVE IN A RURAL MIDWEST AREA WHERE DEER A PREVELANT, AND AM SO CAUTIOUS AND FEARFUL DRIVING AT NIGHT IN MY NEW CAR. I DO LOVE ALMOST LL OTHER THINGS ABOUT THE GOLF ALLTRACK, BUT DO HOPE THE NHTSA CAN STEP IN AN MAKE VW CHANGE OUT THE HEADLIGHTS BEFORE CONSUMER'S ARE KILLED FROM NOT BEING ABLE O SE AT NIGHT.
ON 10/17/17 AT 6:30 PM, I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY IN SLOW TRAFFIC IN TOWN WHEN A MAN DRIVING IN BACK OF ME WAS LOOKING DOWN SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND DISTRACTED (WAS ON HIS PHONE ALTHOUGH HE SAID HE FELL ASLEEP) WHEN HE HIT THE BACK (REAR-ENDED) MY CAR. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. MY HEAD AND BODY THRUSTED FORWARD AND BACK AND MY HEAD HIT THE LOWER PART OF THE HEAD REST HARD BECAUSE THE HEAD REST AND SEAT ARE TOO TALL (I'M SHORT) AND THE HEADREST DOESN'T FIT MY HEAD. I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION, WHIPLASH, AND SIGNIFICANT PAIN. THIS IS THE 2ND ACCIDENT WHICH WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE 1ST ACCIDENT ON 6/21/17 WHICH I PREVIOUSLY REPORTED TO YOU, VW OF AMERICA, AND DIRITO BROTHERS IN WALNUT CREEK. I SUFFERED A 2ND CONCUSSION AND WHIPLASH. BOTH TIMES, THE OTHER PARTY WAS AT FAULT AND BOTH PARTIES ADMITTED THEY WERE AT FAULT AND I DID NOTHING WRONG BOTH TIMES. I REQUESTED THAT VW RECALL THESE HEADRESTS AND SEATS AND REPLACE THEM WITH HEADRESTS AND SEATS THAT ARE ADJUSTABLE AND FIT PROPERLY FOR SHORT PEOPLE. MY REQUEST WAS DENIED DESPITE THIS BEING A SAFETY CONCERN WHICH CAUSED MY VEHICLE DAMAGE AND MY BODY WAS INJURED. I, AM, AGAIN, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING A RECALL SO MY HEADREST AND SEAT WILL FIT PROPERLY AND I WILL BE AT REDUCED RISK FOR INJURY WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. BOTH TIMES, I FILED CLAIMS WITH MY STATE FARM INSURANCE CO. I RECEIVED MEDICAL TREATMENT BOTH TIMES.
WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THERE IS CONSTANT BRAKE NOISE AND SQUEALING AT LOW SPEEDS (UNDER 25MPH) WHICH BECOMES LOUDER WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT; BRAKING DISTANCE IS LONGER WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD. DEALERSHIP RESURFACING AND REPLACING PADS AND ROTORS DOES NOT ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM.
THE PROBLEM PRESENTS ITSELF AS TICKING/CLICKING/CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE B-PILLAR WHEN THE BODY OF THE CAR FLEXES, FOR EXAMPLE WHEN DRIVING OVER UNEVEN ROAD (EVEN AT PARKING LOT SPEED). AFTER THE DEALERSHIP TRIED TO ADDRESS IT BY REPLACING INTERIOR PANELS AND APPLYING FOAM, THEY WERE ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE ISSUE IS RELATED TO A WELD JOINT, AND 'PERFORMED ADJUSTMENT TO PILLAR SEAM' (AS LISTED ON THE SERVICE RECORD). THIS FAILED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE, SO AFTER A VISIT FROM A VW REPRESENTATIVE THEY TRIED 'PEENIG OVER' THE SEAM, BUT THE NOISE IS STILL PRESENT. MY CONCERN IS THAT ANY ISSUE RELATED TO A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT OF THE CAR, SUCH AS THE B-PILLAR TO ROOF/DOOR FRAME JOINT, POTENTIALLY COMPROMISES THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY AND SAFETY OF THE CAR.
VEHICLE IS A 2017 VW GOLF ALLTRACK S WITH A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION; LESS THAN 2 WEEKS OLD WITH ~400 MILES ON ODOMETER AND A LITTLE OVER 1/4 TANK OF 87-OCTANE GASOLINE. ISSUE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 10PM ON AUGUST 25TH, 2017. VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING AWAY FROM A RED LIGHT AT A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION CROSSING ON A SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE. MANUAL TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED FROM 1ST INTO 2ND GEAR DURING ACCELERATION, AND THE VEHICLE PROMPTLY LOST ENGINE POWER, POWER STEERING AND BRAKES NEAR THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. MY WIFE COASTED THE VEHICLE ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE HELP OF PASSING MOTORISTS WHO WERE KIND ENOUGH TO STOP AND HELP. THE "ENGINE" LIGHT AND "EPC" LIGHT WERE BOTH ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. DURING THE 45 MINUTE WAIT FOR A TOW TRUCK, MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER AND SOMETIMES "CATCH", BUT WOULD NOT START OR IDLE. HEADLIGHTS, BLINKERS, WIPERS, ETC. REMAINED FUNCTIONAL THROUGHOUT THE ORDEAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP AND REMAINS THERE FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THERE IS NO IDENTIFICATION OF A CAUSE FOR THIS ISSUE AT THE MOMENT. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THIS ISSUE IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY FAMILY AND MOTORISTS AROUND US: A NEW VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOOSING POWER AND ALL CONTROL FEATURES IS ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE, AND COULD VERY EASILY LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
THE FRONT STRUT MOUNTS ON THIS CAR CONTINUALLY GO BAD. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF MIXED CITY AND HIGHWAY (NO OFFROAD) DRIVING, THE STRUTS MAKE A RUMBLE AT LOW SPEEDS ON ANYTHING BUT A FLAT ROAD, AND CAUSE A LOW WHINE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEEDS (I.E. PARKING, RIGHT TURN ON RED). THE MOUNTS HAVE BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED REPLACED BY THE DEALER TWICE UNDER WARRANTY AND I AM CURRENTLY ON MY 3RD AND THEY ARE MAKING THE SOUNDS AGAIN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT 23,000 MILES AND HAS THE SAME SYMPTOMS. PREVIOUS FIXES OCCURRED AT AROUND 9,000 AND 20,000 MILES.
ON 6/21/17, A SUV CAR REAR-ENDED MY VEHICLE WHILE I WAS TRAVELING IN TOWN ABOUT 4-6 MPH BECAUSE I HAD SLOWED DOWN AND WAS PREPARING TO STOP FOR AN AMBER LIGHT. WHEN THE PERSON HIT MY CAR, MY HEAD AND UPPER BODY WERE VIOLENTLY THRUST FORWARD AND BACK AS MY HEAD HIT NEAR THE BOTTOM AREA OF MY HEADREST. I HAVE A CONCUSSION AND WHIP LASH. MY CAR HAS REAR-END AND SIDE DAMAGE. SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED MY NEW CAR IN SEPT. 2016, I COMPLAINED ABOUT MY CONCERN TO THE DEALER, DIRITO BROTHERS IN WALNUT CREEK, CA AND SPOKE TO: [XXX], SALESPERSON, [XXX], OWNER, [XXX], THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND [XXX], SERVICE CONSULTANT AND TOLD THEM SINCE THE SEAT IS TOO TALL, THE HEADREST DOESN'T GO DOWN ENOUGH TO CRADLE MY HEAD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HEADREST. I TOLD THEM I WAS AFRAID IF I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, MY HEAD COULD POSSIBLY HIT AT OR NEAR THE BOTTOM PART OF THE HEADREST AND I COULD POSSILBLY BE INJURED (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED). I TOLD THEM MY MAIN CONCERN WAS SAFETY AND FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE RESOLVED TO PREVENT INJURIES OF THEIR CUSTOMERS IN FUTURE ACCIDENTS. I SUGGESTED A RECALL AND POSSIBLE COMPENSATION. TODAY, VW STAFF, [XXX] CONTACTED ME AND TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO SINCE THE NHTSA (YOUR AGENCY) SAID VW HEADRESTS MEET AND EXCEED FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, [XXX] PLACED ME ON-HOLD AND WHEN SHE RETURNED TO THE PHONE, SHE SAID THE SUPERVISORS WERE ALL IN A MEETING, AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. VW OF AMERICA REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY AND OTHERS' SAFETY AND SHOWED NO CONCERN. THIS IS THE 3RD GOLF VW I'VE OWNED AND I'VE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY WITH HEADRESTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD MISFIRED IN ALL CYLINDERS; HOWEVER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CLEARED THE SYSTEM AND WARNING SENSORS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP BEFORE DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO WEEKS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE; HOWEVER, AN UPDATE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT THE TIME. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. 2017 VW ALLTRACK S DRIVER SEAT BASE BOLSTER DIGS INTO LEFT LEG. I HAVE OWNED PREVIOUS VW'S AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. VW NOR DEALER WOULD DO ANYTHING. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE FLASHED THE EPC WARNING LIGHT AND SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND RAPIDLY DECELERATED. THE CAR HAD TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUT ONCE STOPPED. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND ON WHICH RESULTED IN "LIMP" MODE BUT CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR. CAR HAS 700 MILES ON IT.
