WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN THE BODY AND THE DOORS FLEXES DURING OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE DOOR. THE WIRE COATING BECOMES BRITTLE WITH AGE AND CRACKS CAUSING STRESS POINTS IN THE WIRE LEADING TO BREAKAGE OF 1 OR MORE WIRES IN THE HARNESS LEADING TO INOPERABLE CONTROLS AND ELECTRONICS IN THE DOOR, POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL SHORT, AND POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. THIS FAILURE TENDS TO OCCUR AFTER A COUPLE YEARS OF USAGE. THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE FAILED AT 65,000 MILES. USUALLY THE DRIVER'S DOOR FAILS FIRST AS IT IS USED MOST FREQUENTLY. THIS EQUIPMENT INCLUDES BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO WINDOW CONTROLS, DOOR LOCKS, DOOR OPEN SENSOR, AIR BAG SYSTEM CRASH SENSOR, TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH, FUEL DOOR RELEASE SWITCH, DOOR MIRROR ADJUSTMENT, MIRROR TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR, MIRROR HEATING ELEMENT. WIRING HARNESS MUST BE REPLACED WHICH COSTS APPROXIMATELY $150-$200. HARNESS SHOULD BE REDESIGNED WITH LONGER WIRES TO AVOID STRETCHING OF THE WIRE AND WIRE COATING MATERIAL CHANGED TO AVOID BRITTLENESS WITH AGE AND WORK HARDENING. *TR
CAMSHAFT FAILURE CAUSING ALL ASSOCIATED/CONNECTING PARTS TO ALSO FAIL. NEVER DEVIATED FROM SPECIFIED MANUFACTURES REQUIRED OIL (505.01). THIS APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN PROBLEM, THAT IS COMMON ON ALL THESE DIESEL ENGINES (BRM), OF WHICH THE MANUFACTURE WILL NOT CORRECT AND THE OWNER IS REQUIRED TO CORRECT AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE AT A COST OF $2000 PLUS. *TR
CAR HAS THROWN A CEL OF P0016. TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IS SHOT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH CHAINS, GUIDES, AND POSSIBLE VALVES. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH 2005.5 AND 2006 JETTA 2.5 ENGINES. *TR
FRONT END CRASH INTO A STOPPED VEHICLE ON COUNTY HIGHWAY. APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH TO 40 MPH. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY INSURANCE PROVIDER. SEAT BELT STRAINING UPON BODY, THAT TOOK FULL FORCE OF STOP NO OTHER ABSORPTION OF IMPACT ENERGY. VEHICLE KEPT ENERGIZED EVEN AT THE SALVAGE STORAGE AREA WHEN KEYS WERE INSERTED NO ELECTRICALLY SAFETY RELAYS DISENGAGED THE VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE RETURNING HOME AFTER SHOPPING. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSIS WAS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF ENGINE DUE TO A TIMING CHAIN JUMP ON A 72K MILE, 2.5 LITER, 2005 VW JETTA TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2005 NEW JETTA AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN JULY OF 2010. IT CURRENTLY HAS 72,000 MILES. 3 ISSUES. ONE, WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED UP, A CLANGING NOISE OCCURS AND LASTS FOR APPROX 30 SECONDS, THEN IT SOUNDS LIKE A VENT CLOSES AND THE SOUND GOES AWAY. TWO, THE RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF SOMETIMES WHEN I PULL ALONG SIDE A CURB. I HAVE TO RESTART THE CAR, BACK THE CAR UP, THEN PULL THE CAR FORWARD TO GET IT TO TURN OFF. THE THIRD ITEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY NOT ALWAYS AND INVOLVES SHIFTING OF GEARS. WHEN THE CAR IS GOING APPROXIMATELY 20 TO 30 MILES PER HOUR, IT SEEMS TO BOUNCE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR A LITTLE ROUGH BUT NOT JERKY AND SOMETIMES WHEN COASTING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE CAR SEEMS TO HESITATE WHEN I AM READY TO PUSH ON THE GAS. BUT THEN, AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS, ENGAGES INTO GEAR WITH A LUNGE. I RECENTLY TOOK THE CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP FOR ANALYSIS AND THE MAN SAID HE COULD NOT PRODUCE ANY CODES. I TOLD HIM I HAD RECEIVED THE LETTER ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION'S VALVE BODY WARRANTY EXTENSION. HE DROVE THE CAR AND SAID THE CAR DEFINITELY LUNGES AND TOLD ME TO GET IT TO A VW DEALERSHIP FOR A CHECK UP AS HE WAS NOT AN AUTHORIZED VW TECH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHICH IS 2 HOURS AWAY FROM MY HOME. THEY DROVE THE CAR 3 SEPARATE TIMES TRYING TO PRODUCE THE SCENARIO I DESCRIBED BUT COULD NOT. THE TECH TOLD ME IT SOUNDED LIKE I WAS DESCRIBING THE VALVE BODY ISSUE AND HE WOULD TELL THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT HE HAD FELT THE PROB AND THAT MY CAR NEEDED A NEW VALVE BODY. WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR, THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE ABOVE 20 MPH WITHOUT THE ENGINE ROARING AND THE SHIFTING HARD INTO GEAR EVERYTIME. ME AND MY DAUGHTER HAD PULLED OUT INTO A VERY BUSY 40 MPH TRAFFIC. IT WAS SCARY. AT ONE POINT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO ANY GEAR! I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM SOMETHING WAS SERIOUSLY WRONG. NEXT DAY, THEY TOLD ME MY CAR NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION AT MY COST OF $5000. WHAT HAPPEN? *TR
COILPACK FAILURE CAUSES THE CAR TO DECELERATE AND SPUTTER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT STARTS TO RAIN. VOLKSWAGEN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE 2001. THE INTERNET IS FULL OF COMMENTS ON THIS DEFECT YET THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. *TR
NOXIOUS ODOR FROM CARPET UNDERLAYMENT. CAUSES HEADACHES AND ODOR TO BE ABSORBED INTO CLOTHING, SKIN, SEATS, ETC. VW WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, NOR DISCLOSE THE MATERIAL USED AND IF IT IS OFF-GASSING ANY HAZARDOUS FUMES. *TR
THE CAR HAS 83K MILES, SINCE APPROX 1 YEAR AGO (73K MILES) THE LCD MULTIFUCTION DISPLAY IS GETTING DIMMER AND DIMMER UP TO THE POINT THAT SOMETIMES IS ALMOST UNREADABLE AND THE PROBLEM OCCUR ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS EXPOSED TO HIGH TEMPERATURES. (IN THE MORNING THE LCD BRIGHTNESS IS NORMAL). I DID SOME RESEARCH IN THE INTERNET AND FOUND OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME CONDITION. THE LCD MULTIFUNCTION DISPLAY SHOWS THE ODOMETER DATA, THE TRANSMISSION GEAR POSITION AND ALSO SHOWS SAFETY WARNINGS RELATED TO AIR BAGS MALFUNCTION AND FRONT AND REAR DOORS NOT PROPERLY CLOSED. I WAS ADVISED BY A DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR TO CONTACT VW CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE THE REPAIR OF THIS DEFECT IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND ACCORDING TO HIM MAY BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE PARTS. I WAS TOLD BY VW CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BECAUSE IS NOT RECOGNIZED AS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A CAR OWNER TO ALTER THE ODOMETER DURING THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR, IF THAT IS THE CASE SHOULD BE ILLEGAL A FOR A CAR MANUFACTURER TO SELL A CAR THAT AFTER SIX YEARS YOU ARE UNABLE TO READ THE ODOMETER INFORMATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT ADDED POWER STEERING FLUID TO THE VEHICLE BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 201,000.
THE OUTSIDE HANDLES OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR & DRIVER'S SIDE BACK PASSENGER DOOR DO NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. IT APPEARS THAT THE CYLINDER INSIDE THE DOOR DOES NOT LOCK THE HANDLE IN PLACE SO THE DOOR DOES NOT CLOSE. I HAVE TO ROTATE THE CYLINDER WITH MY FINGERS ALONG WITH PUSHING THE DOOR HANDLE INTO PLACE FROM THE OUTSIDE TO RESET THE DEVICE. THERE WAS NO INCIDENT THAT CORRELATES WITH THIS FAILURE. THIS OCCURS DURING EACH USE OF THE DOOR. IN RESEARCHING, I FOUND THAT SOME 2005 VW JETTA MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER, HE SAID MY VIN NUMBER DID NOT FALL UNDER THIS RECALL. *TR
VW JETTA 2.5L 2005 OUT OF THE BLUE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT 81,000 MILES. RANDOM MISFIRE AND VACUUM LEAK CODES. TURN OUT TO BE TIMING CHAIN STRETCHED CAUSING THE PROBLEM COST $2000 TO FIX. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TIMING CHAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHENEVER DECELERATING THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE VALVE COVER DIAPHRAGM, COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CRANK SHAFT SENSORS WERE REPLACED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,236.
HELLO, I AM WRITING IN HOPES THAT YOU WILL HELP REGARDING A DEFECT IN THIS 2005/2006 JETTA VW MODEL. I HAVE COMPLETED MUCH MY RESEARCH ON LINE AND IT MADE ME ANXIOUS TO SEE MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME SITUATION. I AM ASKING THAT YOU HELP IN THIS MATTER. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO CONTACT YOU FIRST. I HAVE ALREADY LOST $200 IN TOWING COST, WHEN MY CAR ABANDONED ME. BASICALLY, I FOUND THAT I COULD NOT TURN THE KEY TO START THE CAR. THE KEY WOULD NOT GO IN. I TRIED TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AT DIFFERENT INTERVALS , BUT NO LUCK AFTER AN HOUR IN A DARK GARAGE. THE KEY JUST WOULDN'T GO IN. I HAD IT TOWED. I STRUGGLED TO GET THE KEY IN ONCE I WAS HOME AND IN A SAFE PLACE. I MANAGED TO PUSH THE KEY IN AFTER 30 MINUTES. A WEEK HAS GONE BY AND IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. THE KEY CAN'T GO IN. I HAD TO ABANDON MY CAR AGAIN. I DON'T HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE, THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT FROM Y RESEARCH. I FEEL I AM TRAPPED WITH THIS DEFECT THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG OTHERS. WARRANTY OR NO WARRANTY, THIS IS A PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE BOLTS FROM THE DRIVESHAFT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WERE LOOSE. THE ENGINE WAS ON BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CALLED AND INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
HARD SHIFTING, IT HARD SHIFTS AND IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE VALVE BODY BUT VOLKSWAGEN DOES NOT WANT TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE IT IS A FEW MILES OVER THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY WHEN I HAVE READ MANY THINGS SAYING THAT VOLKSWAGEN WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VALVE BODY. *TR
WE RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA (THE NEWER DESIGN ALSO COINCIDED 2005.5) FROM A PRIVATE INDIVIDUAL IN MARCH 2010. WE NOTICED THERE WAS A SLIGHT PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING GEARS THAT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. IN JUNE 2010 WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER AND DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD US IT SOUNDED LIKE THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL WAS THE PROBLEM. THAT THERE WAS 2 DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS THAT MAKE THE FLYWHEELS AND THEY NO LONGER USE ONE OF THE MANUFACTURERS DUE TO DEFECTS AND PROBLEMS WITH THE FLYWHEELS THEY MADE. THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE FLYWHEELS WERE BAD AND WOULD NEED REPLACED WAY BEFORE THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO. EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM WAS KNOWN BY VOLKSWAGEN THEY REFUSED TO FIX REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. THEY SAID WE COULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT AND BUT WOULD CONTINUE TO GET WORSE AND END UP TEARING UP ALOT OF OTHER STUFF IF IT DID. WE LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM, THOUGH NO RECALL. WE ALSO READ WHERE IF THE FLYWHEEL LOCKED UP/CAME APART WHILE DRIVING IT COULD LOCKUP THE ENTIRE CAR. WE DID COME ACROSS WHERE THE FLYWHEEL HAD BEEN RECALLED IN EUROPE. THE CAR WAS DROVE TILL NOVEMBER 2010 WHEN IT HAD GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT ON HILLS AND WHEN YOU WOULD TRY TO GET UP SPEED TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE IT WOULD NOT SHIFT TO THE NEXT GEAR( BUT THE RPMS WERE NORMAL) AND WAS FORCED TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE AT A VERY SLOW AND UNSAFE SPEED. THE ENGINE ALSO HAD A VERY LOUD CHATTER NOISE. WE DECIDED TO HAVE IT FIXED AND REPLACED THE FLYWHEEL ASSY & MOUNT BOLTS AND HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHED AND REFILLED AND A NEW FILTER PUT IN. TOTALING $1423.00. THE NEW FLYWHEEL WAS NOT THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL ONE. IT NOW RUNS GREAT. SHIFTS PERFECTLY AND SMOOTHLY. *TR

THERE WAS ALSO A RIGHT REAR BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,936. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,740.

JETTA 2005.5 SEDAN (AUTOMATIC) HARD SHIFTED BETWEEN 2ND & 3TH GEARS, DISPLAYING SHUDDERING AND HESITATION DURING ACCELERATION IN TRAFFIC. SINCE OCTOBER 2010 HARD SHIFTING HAS CONTINUED DAILY AND FREQUENCY OF SHIFTING HESITATION ISSUE HAS WORSENED. HARD SHIFTING WITH HESITATION UP BETWEEN 3TH AND 4TH, AND ALSO HARD SHUDDERING DOWNSHIFT BETWEEN 3RD AND 2ND. DEALER HOOKED VEHICLE TO COMPUTER ON FEB 14, 2011 AND STATED TRANSMISSION HAS NO ERRORS. DEALER WOULD NOT TEST DRIVE FOR LONGER THAN 4 MILES, DEALER STATED HARD SHIFT DID NOT OCCUR IN THAT 4 MILE PERIOD, TEST WAS NOT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, OWNER WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE. DEALER STATES VEHICLE IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR VALVE FIX. VEHICLE SHIFTING FAILURE IS HAZARDOUS AND DANGEROUS HIGHWAY CONDITION.
2005 JETTA GLI - THE TRANSMISSION STOP WORKING BECAUSE OF AN OIL SENSOR IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION STOP WORKING COMPLETELY AND WILL STOP WORKING IN THE ROAD AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I REPORTED TO VOLKSWAGEN AND THEY SAID IT WAS TOO BAD YOU NEED TO FIX IT. NEED YOUR HELP ON THIS MATTER PLEASE HELP. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 NEW JETTA AND AT AROUND 60,000 MILES IT SHIFTS HARD FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. IT ALSO DOWNSHIFTS ABRUPTLY. THE HARD JERKING SCARES ME WHEN DRIVING BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AT SOME POINT VW HAS TO REALIZE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I GOT THE RECALL LETTER ABOUT THE VALVE BODY AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO A VW DEALER FOR SERVICE I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR DIDN'T HAVE A VALVE BODY ISSUE. THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. COST $6,000. I CONTACTED VW BY PHONE AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. NOW AT CLOSE TO 70,000 MILES THE JERKING HAS WORSEN AND I HAVE BECOME VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR WHILE I'M DRIVING IT. *TR
2005.5 NEW JETTA 60,000 MILES AND THE TIMING CHAIN HAS SLIPPED TEETH AND THROWN THE ENGINE OUT OF TIME. NEW TIMING CHAIN FROM DEALER IS BETWEEN $4700-$5600. ALL MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE WAS DONE AT THE DEALER. FROM INTERNET SEARCHES IT APPEARS THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM ON EARLY MODEL YEARS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO AVOID A CRASH. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO DRIVE AND WHEN APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE RECURRED. THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE CYLINDER AND BOOSTER HAD FAILED BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THEY FAILED. THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND CYLINDERS WERE REPLACED AT A DISCOUNT RATE TO THE CONTACT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD NEVER HAVE OCCURRED AND THE MANUFACTURER TOOK THE LIABILITY FOR A PARTIAL REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 56,000.
WHEN SITTING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS VERY HARD IN AND OUT OF THE SHIFTING SEQUENCE. ALSO THERE IS VERY HEAVY CRAZING WITH THE HEAD LAMP FIXTURES AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED AND CAUSES SERIOUS IMPAIRMENT AT NIGHT WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE ON. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTING FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT BOTH A WIRING AND CRASH HARNESS WAS NEEDED TO RESOLVE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

VISIT TO DEALER CONFIRMED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL, CAUSING COLLATERAL DAMAGE TO ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION. REPAIR ESTIMATE WAS FROM $5K TO $15K. THERE IS A LONG RUNNING ISSUE WITH THE 2005 1/2 VW JETTA V TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY THAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE TRANS GETS HOT SITTING IN TRAFFIC. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR OR SHIFTS VERY HARD OR WILL NOT SHIFT AT ALL AND MAY CAUSE A REAR END ACCIDENT AS THE JETTA DOES NOT SHIFT. VW AMERICA DOES KNOW OF THE PROBLEM AND ISSUED A EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES OR 7 YEARS. BUT AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH THERE ARE JETTA'S THAT ARE OUT THERE THAT HAVE MILEAGE OVER THE 100,000 MILES. WHEN YOU CALL VW, THEY REFUSE TO HELP AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE PEOPLE THAT OWN THEIR PRODUCT. REAR SEATBELT LATCH BUTTON FAILED AFTER LITTLE USE. WILL NOT LOCK TOGETHER WHEN PRESSED IN POSITION .
TURN SIGNAL SWITCH MALFUNCTION AND FIRE... RIGHT TURN SIGNAL ACTIVATED WITHOUT SWITCH BEING ACTIVATED. AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES IN THIS CONDITION, SMOKE CAME OUT OF STEERING COLUMN. FIRE/MARKING COULD BE SEEN IN THE SWITCH AREA. EVENTUALLY THE TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT AND THE SMOKE/FIRE STOPPPED. VW SERVICE REPLACED THE SWITCH AND WIRE HARNES. THE PLACTIC ON THE SWITCH AND HARNES WAS MELTED AND CHARRED. *CN
WE HAVE A 2005 JETTA TDI AUTOMATIC. THIS CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AT EVERY INTERVAL BY VW. WE HAVE HAD A COMMON CONCERN ABOUT THE CAR MOVING FORWARD IN DRIVE IN ERRATIC FASHION WHEN COLD AFTER ABOUT 6 MONTHS. WE INFORMED VW ABOUT THIS CONCERN AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. LAST WEEK MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE TRIED EVERYTHING TO GET IT STARTED BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR VW DEALER WHO INFORMED US THAT IT WOULD COST $600.00 JUST TO MAKE A DETERMINATION AS TO WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. WE GAVE THEM THE GO AHEAD AND A DAY LATTER THEY INFORMED US THAT THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL HAS DISINTEGRATED WHICH IN TURN DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION. THIS DMF APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH VW'S IN GENERAL. IN EUROPE VW WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FREE OF CHARGE, BUT NOT IN THE US. WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM VW ON WHAT IF ANYTHING THEY WILL DO. AIR BAG PROBLEMS ON 2005 VOLKSWAGEN NEW JETTA. DEFECTIVE CONNECTIONS UNDER ALL SEATS WHICH BREAK FROM RANDOM MOVEMENT OF SEATING AREA RESULTING IN A NONFUNCTIONAL AIR BAG FOR THAT PASSENGER. THIS CAUSES A DEFAULT CODE AND BLOCKS ANY AIR BAG FROM FUNCTIONING. ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A CRASH RESULTS IN INJURY OR DEATH BECAUSE THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND PROTECT THE PASSENGER. ON 11/11/09, I PARKED MY CAR ON MY APARTMENT COMPLEX PARKING LOT. I LEFT MY CAR IN FIRST GEAR AS A SAFETY MEASURE. NEXT MORNING (11/12/09) I TRIED TO START MY CAR, BUT THE CAR WAS LOCKED IN FIRST GEAR EVEN AFTER PRESSING THE PEDAL CLUTCH. THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON BUT STALLED AND MOVE SLIGHTLY FORWARD. FORTUNATELY I HAD THE HAND BREAK ON. IF I DID NOT HAVE THE PARKING BREAK ON, I WOULD HAVE MOVED FORWARD INTO A BUSH IN FRONT OF MY PARKING LOT SPACE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, SWITCHED TO NEUTRAL GEAR AND TURN THE CAR ON. THE CAR TURNED ON AND I THOUGHT I SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I PUT THE CAR ON REVERSE, TO EXIT MY PARKING LOT SPACE AND AGAIN THE CAR STALLED AND MOVED BACKWARDS. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CAR OR PEOPLE BEHIND ME. AT THAT POINT I REALIZED THAT I COULD NOT ENGAGE THE CAR INTO ANY GEAR AND THAT THE CLUTCH WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. MY CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 46,000 MILES AND THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE CLUTCH WOULD FAIL SO EARLY IN LIFE. I READ IN MANY FORUMS THAT THE 05-06 VW JETTA HAS A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH AND IT COULD BE HAZARDOUS FOR PEOPLE IF THE CLUTCH FAILS WHILE DRIVING. MY CLUTCH DID NOT GIVE ME ANY SIGNAL OF WEAR AND TEAR, NO SOUNDS OR DIFFICULTY WHILE DRIVING, IT WAS WORKING VERY WELL ONE DAY AND NEXT DAY IT BROKE DOWN. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPECTED TO BE A SMALL FIX, SINCE THE CLUTCH WAS NORMALLY OPERATING ON 11/11/09 AND IT SUDDENLY FAILED ON 11/12/09. AFTER A REVIEW, THE DEALER IS CHARGING ME $2200, BECAUSE THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH, THE FLYWHEEL AND THE PRESSURE PLATE. IT APPEARS THAT A VW FAULTY PRODUCT IS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT VW DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THEIR MISTAKE. *TR

I NO LONGER HAVE A FUNCTIONING SEATBELT EITHER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR AMERICA. NOT ONLY DID THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY WITH NO ACCIDENT, I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN MY OWN VEHICLE. WHAT IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT TONIGHT WITHOUT THE PROPER PROTECTION A CAR IS GUARANTEED TO HAVE? IF I WAS KILLED OR MY KIDS WERE KILLED, WOULD VW DO SOMETHING THEN? *TR
THE VOLKSWAGEN TDI 1.9L ENGINE WHEN COUPLED TO THE DSG( DIRECT SHIFT GEAR) TRANSMISSION HAS AN EXTREMELY HIGH FAILURE RATE OF THE DMF (DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL). FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED BETWEEN 10K AND 100K MILES. THE INTERNAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE FLYWHEEL IS IMPROPER AND WILL SEPARATE LEADING TO THE TOTAL FAILURE OF THE UNIT. WHEN THE UNIT FAILS IT CAUSES A VERY SPECIFIC AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES. THE DMF CAN SEPARATE AND THEN FRACTURE INTO LARGE SHRAPNEL TYPE PIECES. THIS SHRAPNEL WILL THE CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION AND POSSIBLY THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. WHEN THE SEIZURE OCCURS IS CAUSES THE FRONT TIRES TO LOCK AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN POSSIBLE INJURY OR DEATH. THE SHRAPNEL CAN ALSO CAUSE THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE RESULTING IT THE LOSS OF PRESSURIZED TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS FLUID CAN CONTACT THE TURBOCHARGER AND RESULT IN AN UNDER HOOD FIRE. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE IS COMMON AS WELL. VWA(VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA) IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS REDESIGNED THE DMF. THE NEW DESIGN HAS NOT FAILED. THE DMF HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND AUSTRALIA AS A SAFETY CONCERN . VWA HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN NOT COVERING THIS REPAIR UNDER EVEN IT'S STANDARD WARRANTY. NO VOLUNTARY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. I CURRENTLY HAVE AN EXAMPLE OF THE FAILED PART AVAILABLE. THIS MODEL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH ON A LARGE SCALE IF NOT ADDRESSED. *TR
