FAILURE OF BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LEADING TO UNSAFE OPERATION OF VEHICLE. IMPROPERLY DESIGNED BRAKE SWITCH FAILED AT 19,000 MILES CAUSING REAR BRAKE LIGHTS TO NO LONGER FUNCTION. *JB
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT TAB WON'T ENGAGE IN HOLDER MECHANISM. *NM
OIL PAN WAS CRACKED DO TO CONTACT WITH SPEED BUMP. ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON UNTIL ENGINE FAILED DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICATION. WHEN OBTAINING A REPLACEMENT OIL PAN FROM MANUFACTURER A REDESIGNED OIL PAN WAS USED AS A REPLACEMENT. INSTEAD OF CAST ALUMINUM IT WAS STEEL. IF THIS PAN WAS USED AS THE ORIGINAL PAN THE INCIDENT WOULD HAVE NEVER OCCURRED. AFTER INVESTIGATING FOUND OUT THAT STEEL PAN IS USED IN GERMAN BUILT JETTA'S BUT US MADE USE CAST PRODUCT. VW REFUSED TO WARRANTY ENGINE WITH ONLY 21,000 MILES. *JB
I WAS DRIVING AND DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH IN MY CAR, AT WHICH TIME I FELT A SNAP AND I COULD NO LONGER CHANGE GEARS. IT BEGAN WORKING AGAIN ABOUT FORTY MINUTES LATER, BUT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS AT TIMES. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE WAS NOT RELEASING PROPERLY AND THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE FLYWHEEL, AND THAT THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM, EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAS ONLY 35000 MILES AND IS UNDER WARRANTY FOR MORE THAN 70000 MILES. THIS REPAIR IS QUOTED TO COST ME OVER 2000 DOLLARS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PROCEEDING FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CLUTCH SHATTERED. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND OFFERED REPAIRS AT COST. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED COMPLAINTS FOR THE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE WERE A HIGH NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS RELATING TO A SHATTERED CLUTCH. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.
WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ITS POWER AND WAS I COULD NOT GO OVER 25 MPH. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO NOT GET HIT FROM BEHIND. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ENGINE/EXHAUST LIGHT, ESR LIGHT, ESP LIGHT ALL CAME ON. IT ALSO STALLS OUT WHEN SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION. VW UNABLE TO FIX AS OF YET, BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES ALREADY FOR THE SAME THING. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, CAR VERY UNRELIABLE!! *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE FOR A SPLIT SECOND THEN STOP. IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF FOR 15 MINUTES, IT WILL GO FOR 10 MILES. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A PROBLEM, BUT HAS REPLACED MULTIPLE COMPONENTS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS RESET THE CODES, REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL VALVE MODULE, THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, THE WIRES CONNECTING THE ECM, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, 18 CONNECTORS, THE WIRES TO THE PEDAL, BOLTS, AND INSTALLED A HARNESS. THESE EFFORTS HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP.
I NOW OWN A 2005. 5 NEW BODY STYLE JETTA TDI WITH JUST UNDER 15,000 MILES ON IT AND IN 5TH I CAN FEEL THE CLUTCH SLIPPING AT TIMES WHICH I FEEL IS UN-ACCEPTABLE. AND YES I DO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL DIESEL, TDI AND NON-TDI. *NM
WHILE ENTERING THE INTERSTATE AND UPSHIFTING INTO 5TH GEAR, THE CLUTCH WAS DEPRESSED. THE CLUTCH STUCK TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOSE ALL TRANSMISSION FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE CLUTCH DISC WHICH DISINTEGRATED AND WAS NOT COVERED SINCE IT WAS CONSIDERED A WEAR ITEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE SO THE OWNER THEN PAID TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *NM
THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. DESPITE USING THE UNLOCK BUTTONS ON KEY, THE DRIVERS DOOR, AND THE PASSENGER DOOR, THE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT ENGAGE. EACH TIME ONE OF THE MENTIONED UNLOCK BUTTONS IS PUSHED, YOU CAN HEAR THE ELECTRONIC MECHANISM SOUND LIKE IT IS UNLOCKING THE DOOR, BUT THE LATCH STILL DOES NOT ENGAGE IN ORDER TO OPEN THE DOOR. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER YET, BUT FELT THIS SHOULD BE REPORTED HERE DUE TO THE DANGER OF THIS ISSUE IN CASE OF A CRASH / FIRE IN WHICH IT COULD PREVENT A QUICK EXIT OF THE PASSENGER. *JB
I BOUGHT A 2005 JETTA TDI, BRAND NEW. WHEN IT HAD LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON IT, IT DIED WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC, AND AFTER 20 MINUTES IT FINALLY RESTARTED. THEN 6 WEEKS LATER, WITH LESS THAN 4500 MILES ON IT, IT DIED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I WAS GOING 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE FREEWAY. I HAD MY 3 KIDS IN THE CAR. AGAIN, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO A NARROW SHOULDER. I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, BUT AGAIN, AFTER 20 MINUTES I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RESTART IT. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WITH MY CHILDREN SINCE WE TRAPPED BETWEEN A GUARDRAIL AND THE FIRST LANE. IT WAS TERRIFYING. THE ONLY INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS THAT AFTER IT DIED QUIETLY, A LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID "EMISSIONS WORKSHOP." THE DEALER SAYS IT'S RUNNING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHY A BRAND NEW CAR HAS QUIT TWICE WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO RESTART FOR 20 MINUTES EACH TIME. *JB
THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON 4 TIMES IN MY 2005 NEW JETTA 2.5 THE SEAT BELT SENSORS IN FRONT HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE AT DEALERSHIP, THIS STARTED WHEN THE CAR HAD ONLY 22000 MILES AND KEPT COMING ON AROUND EVERY 10000 MILES, THEY HAD TO ALSO REPLACE THE AIRBAG(S) NOT SURE WHICH ONES WERE REPLACED, THE SEATBEALTS DON'T WIND BACK UP PROPERLY SOMETIMES AS WELL. AT AROUND 25000 MILES THE BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED, WE HEARD A CLICKING ONE DAY IN THE REAR WHEEL WELL, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY HAD REPLACED THE BRAKES, ROTORS ETC. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION OF THESE REPAIRS. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES DO NOT ALWAYS DEPRESS. THE FIRST 3 TIMES THIS HAPPENED THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ITSELF. THE LAST TIME THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HIT A VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS SEEN THE VEHICLE MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THE COMPUTER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS FINE. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN AREA REPRESENTATIVE. HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK UPDATED 02/06/06. *JB
AT COLD-START, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HESITATES THEN LURCHES INTO EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE, WHICH IS ESPECIALLY UNNERVING WHEN DRIVING IN AREAS WITH IN/DECLINES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE ROLLS LIKE A MANUAL. TOLD BY THE DEALER TWICE THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM BECAUSE THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WAS FUNCTIONING TO MFG SPECS. THIS IS A PROBLEM. *NM
WE WERE DRIVING OUR NEW 2005.5 JETTA 5 SPD AT AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STALLED AS A RESULT OF THE CLUTCH BEING LET OUT TO QUICKLY. I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT SUCCESS. I PULLED THE BRAKE UP; PUSHED THE CLUTCH PEDAL COMPLETELY IN AND PUT THE STICK SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. STILL WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER JUST MISSED US BY INCHES. FINALLY GOT THE CAR STARTED MADE OUR WAY HOME. AT HOME WE DUPLICATES WHAT HAPPENED AND DETERMINED WE NEEDED TO TURN THE KEY COMPLETELY TO THE OFF POSITION, THEN WE WERE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RESTART THE ENGINE. WE DRIVE MOSTLY MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND CANNOT THINK OF ANY TIME WE HAVE HAD TO TURN THE KEY COMPLETELY TO THE OFF POSITION TO GET OUR VEHICLES STARTED. WE CALLED AND TALKED WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS A NEW FEATURE VW INSTITUTED THIS YEAR TO KEEP DRIVERS FROM TRYING TO RESTART AN ENGINE THAT MAY ALREADY BE RUNNING AND POSSIBLY RUINING THE STARTER. RUINING THE STARTER WAS THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS. WE ARE CONCERNED THE DOCUMENTATION THAT OUTLINES THAT THE DRIVER MUST RETURN THE KEY TO THE 0FF POSITION EVERY TIME TO RESTARTED THE ENGINE IS BURIED ON PG 92 OF BOOKLET 3.1 IN SECTION IGNITION LOCK POSITION OF THE KEY. THIS IS CLEARLY NOT SOMETHING A DRIVER WOULD NORMALLY LOOK FOR OR EXPECT FROM THE VEHICLE THEY ARE DRIVING. I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND THIS FEATURE BE CHANGED SO THAT IF A DRIVER STALLS THEIR VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY IN A COMPROMISING SITUATION, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEY BEING ANYWHERE IN THE ON POSITION. IN ADDITION, UNTIL THIS COULD BE ACCOMPLISHED I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS INFORMATION BE INCLUDED IN THE JETTA QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE. THIS IS A MORE REASONABLE PLACE THE DRIVER MAY LOOK INSTEAD OF BEING BURIED DEEP INSIDE THE DRIVERS MANUAL. I ALSO RECOMMEND THIS BE INFORMATION THE DEALERSHIP IS REQUIRED TO MAKE SURE THE DRIVER KNOWS BEFORE LEAVING THEIR LOT. THIS IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING OF A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE. *NM
WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE WITH OUR 2005 JETTA SINCE PURCHASE. WHENEVER WE START THE CAR FROM COLD WE EXPERIENCE A VERY LOUD NOISE THAT LASTS FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A NORMAL SOUND. UNFORTUNATELY AT FIRST THEY SAID THIS WAS NORMAL. ONLY NOW ARE THEY ADMITTING THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR A NEW CAR. THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS AND VOLKSWAGEN ARE STATING THIS IS A NORMAL ISSUE. THE DEALER DID REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH DID NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP.*JB
DRIVING VW JETTA BOUGHT NEW EARLY 2005 ON A SURFACE STREET IN WESTERVILLE. DRIVER SIDE FRONT TIRE DISINTEGRATED, CAUSING FOUR OR MORE HOLES (2" X 2") ON OUTER SIDE TIRE WALL. TIRE MADE BY MICHELIN; WE WILL KEEP TIRE OR AT LEAST RETAIN PHOTOS OF IT. CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 35-40 MPH DRIVEN BY MY WIFE. CONTROL WAS MAINTAINED UNTIL CAR STOPPED. *JB

I CALLED IN NOV 05' TO CHECK ON THE STATUS AND A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TOLD ME I SHOULD FILE AGAIN (I HAVE A REFERENCE NUMBER FOR THAT, TOO). I'VE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM TO THIS DAY. SINCE I BOUGHT MY VW JETTA TDI 05' IN MARCH 05, I HAVE DOCUMENTED HOW THE VW DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE COMPONENT, DEALT WITH OCCURRING PROBLEMS WITH THE ASR LIGHT AND A SEPARATE GLOW PLUG LIGHT SITUATION, PLUS UPPER FRONT STRUT MOUNTS REPLACEMENTS. EACH INCIDENT HAS EQUALLY COLORFUL STORIES TOO DETAILED FOR YOUR DATABASE CHARACTER LIMITATIONS. *JB
THE REASON FOR THE LATE POST IS THAT I JUST DISCOVERED THIS SITE. I PURCHASED MY 2005 VW JETTA BRAND NEW IN 2005. IT HAD 61 MILES ON IT. I HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS WHEN IT WAS SHIFTING VERY HARD AND NEARLY SNAPPING MY NECK. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE VW DEALERSHIP OVER 30 TIMES WITHIN A YEARS TIME AND THEY CONTINUED TO TELL ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. THEY KEPT THE CAR AND DROVE IT AND IT OF COURSE IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN WHILE THEY DROVE IT. THEY ACTUALLY TOLD ME I WAS DRIVING THE CAR INCORRECTLY (WHAT THAT MEANS I DON'T KNOW). I WAS UNAWARE OF THE LEMON LAW AT THE TIME. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SHIFT EXTREMELY HARD. FINALLY AFTER IT WENT BACK FOR THE 30TH TIME I DEMANDED THAT THEY KEEP THE CAR AND DRIVE IT UNTIL IT HAPPENED. FINALLY AFTER 2 WEEKS (THEY ACTUALLY GAVE ME A LOANER) THE MECHANIC CALLED ME STATING THAT IT NEARLY SNAPPED HIS NECK AND THAT THEY WOULD PUT IN A NEW TRANSMISSION (REBUILT MIND YOU). AFTER GETTING IT BACK ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE CAR WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE AND WAS MAKING THE WORST NOISE EVER BUT I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ONCE AGAIN (ANOTHER REBUILT TRANSMISSION). THE OTHER ISSUE I HAD WAS THE LOCKS ON THE CAR. SOME OF THE DOORS LOCK WITH THE KEY FOB WHILE THE BACK DOORS DON'T WORK WITH THE FOB OR THE SWITCH ON THE DOOR PANEL. THIS IS FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU HAVE CHILDREN AND NEED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE CAR AND GET THEM IN AND OUT. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING AND HE FELT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GETTING ANY FUEL. HE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THEN IT STALLED. HE DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO RESTART IT, AND IT STARTED SMOKING. HE GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND LIFTED THE HOOD AND IT BURST INTO FLAMES. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, ACCORDING TO THE AUTO BODY SHOP THE ONLY THING THAT REMAINED WERE THE HEAD LIGHTS. THERE HAS BEEN NO INVESTIGATION AS TO WHERE THE FIRE STARTED. SHE CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN, AND THEY TOLD HER THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A FAULTY FUEL CLAMP. BUT SHE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT 5021483 WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE. *AK
A FEW DAYS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR NEW 2005 JETTA WE NOTICED THAT AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 6 HOURS OR MORE WE WERE HEARING A VERY LOUD NOISE AT START UP. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR FROM COLD, BECOMING MORE LOUD THE COLDER IT IS - THE NOISE IS VERY LOUD AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT NORMAL FOR A BRAND NEW CAR. IT APPEARS THE NOISE IS COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND AFTER LOOKING AT IT, THEY SAID THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND REALLY DID NOT EXPLAIN AS TO WHAT IS MAKING THE NOISE. THEY DID STATE THAT OTHER JETTA'S MADE THE SAME NOISE. AGAIN, I FIND THIS VERY CONCERNING FOR A NEW CAR. *NM
THE CAR IS SQUEALING RIDICULOUSLY LOUD WHEN THE CAR COMES TO A STOP OR IN REVERSE. (MOSTLY IN REVERSE) I HAVE CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OR GIVEN ANY INFORMATION ON FIXING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TRIED EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO FIX IT. I HAVE OTHER FRIENDS WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE SAME NOISE. THE SQUEALING NOISE IS SO LOUD, IT SOUNDS LIKE AN 18 WHEELER COMING TO A STOP. WE KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM VOLKSWAGEN. IF I HAD KNOWN THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE FIXED, I WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN OUT A LEASE ON THIS CAR. IT IS ONLY WITH THIS MODEL. MY PREVIOUS JETTA HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THE CAR IS A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLI 1.8 TURBO. I WANT ANSWERS FROM VOLKSWAGEN ON WHEN THEY ARE PLANNING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I WANT THIS KNOWN THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE OVER $350 A MONTH TO HAVE THE CAR, THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT NEED TO WAIT 1 MORE MINUTE. *JB
ANY TIME THE VEHICLE IS NOT OPERATED FOR A FEW HOURS OR LONGER, THE ENGINE MAKES A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE UPON STARTING. THE NOISE LASTS LESS THAN 30 SECONDS, THEN A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE FOLLOWS BEFORE BOTH NOISES CEASE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THESE NOISES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS DUE TO THIS NOISE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND THAT ALL NEW VEHICLES ON THE LOT WERE MAKING THE SAME NOISE. THE SALESMAN SUGGESTED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS STARTING UP AND THE HIGH-PITCHED NOISE THAT FOLLOWED WAS THE FUEL PUMP. STILL, IT DOES NOT SOUND NORMAL, AND THE NOISE DOES NOT OCCUR IF THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN RESTING FOR A MATTER OF MINUTES. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE SUCH A NOISE, AND THEN ONLY MAKE IT ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS. *JB

I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA GLS TDI FROM RANDY HILEY VOLKSWAGEN ON AUGUST 25TH 2005. I TOOK THE CAR INTO NORTH POINT VOLKSWAGEN IN SHERWOOD, ARKANSAS TO HAVE THE FUEL GAUGE CHECKED OUT ON SEPTEMBER 2ND 2005. THE SERVICE TECH TOOK ME TO THE SHOP TO LOOK AT THE CAR. HE ASKED ME IF I KNEW THE CAR WAS DAMAGED, I SAID NO. THE SALESMAN HAD SAID IT HAD NEVER BEEN WRECKED AND IF IT HAD BEEN WRECKED THEY WOULD SELL THE CAR AT WHOLESALE. THE SERVICE TECH AT NORTH POINT SHOWED ME THE FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE-SENDING UNIT HAD BEEN BROKEN. HE SAID THE ONLY TIME THEY HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN IS IF A CAR HAD BEEN IN A WRECK. THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND FOUND THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN REPAIRED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WE FOUND BAD WELDS, AND NO PAINT/RUST PROTECTANT. HILEY PAID FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO BE REPLACED. IF YOU LOOK AT THE VW WEB SITE FOR CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED YOU'D SEE THAT IT SHOWS UNDER THE UNDERBODY TAB "NO SIGN OF DAMAGE". I CALLED HILEY VW TO SEE WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS. TO WHICH THEY SAID, "THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO." (HILEY, GENERAL MANAGER). I HAVE HAD HILEY FIX A SEAT BELT PROBLEM AND CHECK FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT ON THE CAR. AFTER I ARGUED WITH GENERAL MANAGER ABOUT ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. I'M TIRED OF ARGUING! WHICH I HAD TO DRIVE TO ARLINGTON. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN ON NOW. I TOOK THE CAR INTO MOFFITT VW. THEY SAY IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELT. THERE'S A FLAW IN THE WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NO DOORSILL PROTECTORS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR. THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT WILL NOT LOCK INTO PLACE. I PURCHASED MY 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA IN APRIL 2005 FROM COLONIAL VOLKSWAGEN IN FEASTERVILLE, PA. ON AUGUST 24TH I BROUGHT IT IN BECAUSE MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT BROKE. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE BELT IN STOCK AND WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT. I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS UNHAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT THEY DIDN'T STOCK SEAT BELT PARTS FOR A NEW VEHICLE AND THAT I FELT IT WAS DANGEROUS TO RIDE AROUND IN A VEHICLE WITHOUT SEAT BELTS. DT: THE CONTACT STATED ON 8-16-05 WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR DIED. THEN IT LURCHED FORWARD, STOPPED AND LURCHED FORWARD AGAIN. THIS WAS THE FIFTH TIME THE CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERS. THE FIRST TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND THEY REPLACED A FUEL INJECTOR. THE SECOND TIME THE ABS LIGHT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THEY INSTALLED A FULL DISTRIBUTOR RAIL. THE THIRD TIME THE ENGINE OVERHEATED, AND THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NOT WORK . THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND COOLING FANS. THE FOURTH TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND THEY REPLACED A VALVE. THIS LAST TIME THE DEALER GAVE HIM A LOANER CAR. THEY HAVE NOT DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM YET. THE DEALER CALLED ON FRIDAY TO TELL HIM THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE LOANER CAR. *AK

SHE CALLED THE DEALER , AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET HER IN UNTIL WEDNESDAY 7-20-05 BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIT HER INTO THEIR BUSY SCHEDULE, AND BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE CLAMP YET. CONSUMER REQUESTED A LOANER AND THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER. CONSUMER CALLED A CUSTOMER CARE ADVOCATE LISTED ON THE RECALL LETTER TO SEE ABOUT GETTING A LOANER, AND THE ADVOCATE TOLD HER TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL SHE SMELLED GASOLINE, AND THEN HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER. THE ADVOCATE SUGGESTED CONSUMER CONTACT OTHER DEALERS TO TAKE HER CAR IN FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS, BUT SHE DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY FURTHER THAN NECESSARY. ALL OF THE OTHER DEALERS WERE VERY FAR AWAY, AND THE RECALL STATES THERE WAS A DANGER OF A FIRE. SHE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. SINCE WHEN TRAVELING CROSS COUNTRY YOU WOULD MOST LIKE STOP AT A TRUCK STOP TO FUEL UP, YOU WOULD MOST LIKELY BE OUT OF LUCK -AND HAVE 'SEARCH' FOR A GAS STATION IN A STRANGE TOWN, AWAY FROM YOUR ROUTE, THAT 'MIGHT' HAVE A SMALLER NOZLE THAT WOULD FIT YOUR FUEL TANK. THE OLDER JETTA, GOLF AND PASSAT CARS USE A LAGER FUEL INLET THAT IS UNIVERSAL IN TERMS OF BEING ABLE TO FUEL UP ANYWHERE. THE CURRENT 2005 PASSAT HAS THE LARGER INLET, SO WHAT GIVES WITH THE NEW JETTA? TDI OWNERS TRAVEL GREAT DISTANCES AND WOULD LIKE TO NOT BE STRANDED OR MADE TO GO OUT OF THEIR WAY JUST TO FUEL UP. VW SHOULD RETROFIT THE OLDER STYLE NOZLE ON THESE CARS, OR PURCHASE A SMALLER FUELING PUMP NOZLE FOR EVERY GAS STAION OR TRUCK STOP THAT SELLS DIESEL IN THE COUNTRY. WHICH IS EASIER?
AUTO HEADLAMPS MALFUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE AUTO ENGINE IS STARTED. ALL INCIDENCES HAVE OCCURRED AFTER AUTO WAS IN CONTACT WITH WATER, SUCH AS DURING A RAIN STORM OR A CAR WASH. THE AUTO INDICATOR LIGHT FOR HEADLAMP MALFUNCTION IS LIT AND DIFFERENT HEADLAMP BULBS ARE OUT, INCLUDING THE DAY RUNNING LIGHTS AND HEAD LIGHTS. ON ONE OCCASION, ALL HEADLAMPS MALFUNCTIONED AT ONCE. AUTO WAS PURCHASED ON 4/26/05. FIRST INCIDENT WAS REPORTED ON 5/20/05. THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER ON 5/26/05, BUT PROBLEM CONTINUED SINCE THE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER SERVICE CENTER HAS NOT ATTEMPTED TO LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE 5/26/05. THE DEALER REQUESTED THE AUTO BE RETURNED WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS VISIBLE TO THEM. I RETURNED THE AUTO TO THE DEALER ON 9/25/06 TO SHOW THE SERVICE ADVISOR THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS DOCUMENTED. THEY DID NOT ATTEMPT TO LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM ON THIS DAY AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TWO WEEKS LATER. ON 10/10/06 THE AUTO WAS RETURNED FOR REPAIR, HOWEVER, I WAS INFORMED ON 10/12/06 THAT BECAUSE THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO FIX IT. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE CENTER TO MAKE A COMPLAINT (REFERENCE NUMBER 60370228) AND WAS ASKED TO TAKE THE AUTO TO ANOTHER DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. I CONTACTED THE RECOMMENDED VW DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TECHNICIAN WOULD NEED TO SEE THE PROBLEM AS IT WAS OCCURRING, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. *NM
I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AND FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. FOLLOWING THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS, MY HANDS WERE THROWN OFF THE STEERING WHEEL, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN PROCEDED TO GO STRAIGHT UP ONTO A CURB CAUSING THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO BE DAMAGED. THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE
I WAS STOPPED AT LIGHT AND HIT THE ACCELERATE TO FIND MY CAR HAD NO POWER AND SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME INCLUDING ESP, AND TRACTION, AS WELL AS THE EXHAUST LIGHT. THERE WAS ALSO A STRONG ODOR OF SOMETHING BURNING IN THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 10 MILES PER HOUR AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP THE POWER ISSUES WAS FIXED THE WAS NOT THE POWER ISSUE WAS THE WIRING HARNESS WHICH WAS REPLACED. *JB
PRETTY MUCH SINCE I LEASED MY CAR IN APRIL OF 05 THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS. WHEN I WOULD PUT MY CAR INTO REVERSE IT WOULD SHIFT HARD. THEN 3 MONTHS LATER I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUT IT BACK ON THE BRAKE FOR IT TO GO INTO REVERSE. I HAVE TO PUT IT BACK INTO PARK AND THEN BACK INTO REVERSE FOR IT TO GO INTO REVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT IS NORMAL. BUT IT IS FAR FROM NORMAL. I JUST WANT THEM TO TAKE BACK THE CAR. NOW MY DRIVE IS STARTING TO ENGAGE HARD.

THEN AFTER 2 MONTHS OF FIGHTING THE DEALERSHIP AND VW, WE WEE TOLD THAT THE CAR IS PERFORMING TO SPEC AND THAT VW WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *NM

WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA STATION WAGON. ON JANUARY 5, THE DRIVERS SEAT CAME OFF, (UNATTACHED,WAS DISCONNECTED ) FROM THE TRACK ON THE CAR. WOLKSWAGON HAS FIXED THIS AT NO CHARGE BUT THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIAGION INTO WHETHER THERE ARE OTHER CARS OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY IF I HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR IT HAD UNATTACHED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. THE VOLKSWAGON DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT SAY WETHER IT WAS A PARTS PROBLEM OR AN INSTALLATION PROBLEM. *AK
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2005 VW JETTA TDI (1.9 LITER DIESEL ENGINE) IN OCTOBER OF 2004. THIS VEHICLE HAD A HEATING ELEMENT THAT WAS BAD AND EVENTUALLY FIXED BY DEALER UNDER WARRANTY IN NOVEMBER OF 2004. SINCE APPROX. DECEMBER OF 2004 WE HAVE EXPERIENCED INCREASED PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH DISENGAGING FROM THE FLYWHEEL WHILE SHIFTING UP OR DOWN AND WHILE PASSING CARS. I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THE CAR (SINCE 2001) HAS A DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLY INSTALLED BY VW THAT IS AT ROOT OF PROBLEM. THE TWO LAYERED FLYWHEEL IS BECOMING OVER HEATED AND WARPING THE CLUTCH DISC ABNORMALLY IN CERTAIN SPOTS. SOME MECHANICS AND ENGINEERS HAVE SPECUALATED IMPROPER DESIGN, AND OTHERS SAID TRANSMISSION BOLTS AROUND FLYWHEEL WERE PROBABLY OVERTIGHTENED AT MANUFACTURER. EITHER WAY, OUR CLUTCH IS DISENGAGING BY ITSELF FROM THE FLYWHEEL AFTER WE DRIVE CAR FOR 60 OR 70 MILES AT ONE TIME (AND CAR IS HEATED UP). THE CLUTCH DISENGAGES AFTER SHIFING UP OR DOWN AND SOMETIMES WHILE PASSING, CAUSING PROBLEMS NEGOTIATING SPEEDS. THIS MEANS LACK OF CONTROL FROM THE DRIVER WHICH EQUALS SAFETY HAZARD FOR MOST. OUR CAR STARTED THIS AT 11,500 MILES, BUT DEALER IS REFUSING WARRANTY WORK BECAUSE HIS SERVICE ADVISOR FAILED TO NOTE THE PROBLEM WE REQUESTED TO HAVE CHECKED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER IS ALSO DENYING IT IS A CLUTCH/FLYWHEEL PROBLEM SINCE HE CAN NOT DUPLICATE IT IN FIFTEEN MINUTES, BUT HAS REFUSED TO LOOK ANY FURTHER. MOST RESEARCH I HAVE DONE SHOWS THOUSANDS OF VW JETTA CUSTOMERS WITH SAME PROBLEM BETWEEN 11K AND 20K MILEAGE (FROM 2001 TO 2005 MODELS).
THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHERS AND I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT IT AS WELL, SO THAT VW WILL EVENTUALLY BE FORCED TO MAKE A RECALL ON THIS MALFUNCTION. WHEN I START MY CAR AFTER IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR AND HOUR OR MORE, I PLACE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, PUT IT EITHER INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE, AND IF I AM ON ANY HILL, VERY SMALL OR LARGE, WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE, THE CAR WILL ROLL DOWNHILL. THE FIRST FEW TIMES THIS HAPPENED, I ALMOST ROLLED THE CAR OVER A CURB AND DOWN A LARGE EMBANKMENT. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE CAR IS TO APPLY THE BRAKE AGAIN, AND THEN RELEASE THE BRAKE AND QUICKLY APPLY THE GAS. WHEN THAT IS DONE, THE CAR VERY ABRUPTLY JUMPS INTO GEAR.
DT: THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE WHEN HE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR. THIS CAUSED SOOT BUILD UP ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE SOOT WAS WORSE IN THE BACK OF THE STATION WAGON. SOOT AFFECTED THE WHOLE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP FIVE TIMES FOR THIS COMPLAINT. CONSUMER STATED THAT IT WAS SIX TIMES, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT LOG THE FIRST COMPLAINT IN THE COMPUTER. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE FIRST COMPLAINT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE EMISSION PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS WAS A NEW TYPE OF DIESEL ENGINE. THE TYPE OF ENGINE HAD A PUMP MADE TO USE EURO DIESEL WHICH WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN THE UNITED STATES UNTIL 2007. THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT MADE AVAILABLE TO THE CONSUMER BEFORE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER DIDN'T WISH TO POLLUTE THE ENVIRONMENT. HE ALSO STATED IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR BREATHING. SOOT COULD CAUSE BLACK LUNG DISEASE. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, AND IT WILL NOT POLLUTE THE ENVIRONMENT UNTIL 2007 WHEN THE DIESEL WAS CONVERTED. THE CONSUMER HAD A MEETING WITH THE VOLKSWAGEN REPRESENTATIVE. THEY OFFERED TO REFUND THE COST OF CLEANING THE CAR FROM THE SOOT ON THE INSIDE. THE DEALERS PHONE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED.*AK
MY ALARM ON MY 2005 JETTA TDI IS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, INCLUDING FAULTY CONTROLS IN THE STEERING COLUM, AND FAULTY COMPONENTS IN THE ESP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT TO REPAIR THE ALARM, THE RADIO MUST BE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE RADIO IS ON 'BACKORDER', HAS BEEN FOR SIX WEEKS, AND I DO NOT AS OF TODAY, KNOW WHEN I WILL HAVE THIS REPAIRED. THESE PROBLEMS, ALONG WITH THE EXTENDED DELAY IN REPAIRING THE RADIO HAVE CAUSED ME TO CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITY OF A MORE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE ITSELF AND I AM CONCERNED.*AK
