RECALL UPDATE: CURRENTLY, INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED-ENGINE LIGHT ON-COST $1400.00. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR FUEL PUMP WAS TOLD IT WAS REPLACED BUT WOULD NOT GIVE EVIDENCE THAT IT WAS. SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG NEVER REPLACED-WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP DID NOT NEED IT.
DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IN 2.0 TSI ENGINE DAMAGE THE CAR AND ENGINE NOT GETTING STARTED. MECHANIC ASKED FOR $3500 APPROXIMATE ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR WHICH IS KNOWN DEFECT OF VW 2.0 TSI ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN I WAS PARKING THE CAR IN MALL PARKING AREA.
MY VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND SUDDENLY IT STARTED SHAKING WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN I BRAKED, IT SHAKED EVEN MORE VIGOROUSLY. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE AND THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO LOOK AT IT. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ADVISED AGAINST DRIVING IT. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER TWO DAYS THE DEALERSHIP CALLS ME STATING THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAS JUMPED AND THERE IS NO COMPRESSION. THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE DEARLSHIP TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL VW VEHICLES BROUGHT IN WITH SIMILAR ISSUES BUT VW HAS REFUSED TO ISSUE A RECALL OR TAKE ANY ACTION TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETLY HAZARD. IF I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED, I COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED A BIG ACCIDENT BECAUSE I LITERALLY HAD VERY LITTLE CONTROL OVER THE CAR AND WHAT IT WAS DOING. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE CAR'S MANUFACTURING AND VW NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING URGENTLY TO FIX THE ISSUE. THERE ARE OTHER CARS AND OWNERS OUT THERE UNAWARE OF THIS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND NHTSA NEEDS TO BRING THIS TO EVERYONE'S ATTENTION. THANK YOU.
TAKATA RECALL- I WAS NOTIFIED BY TK HOLDINGS INC. THAT MY 2009 VW PASSAT SHOULD HAVE AIRBAGS REPLACED AS PART OF THE NATIONAL RECALL. I CONTACTED VW AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE MY AIRBAGS STATING THAT MY CAR WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR AN AIRBAG RECALL, BUT ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR A FUEL PUMP RECALL.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY FUEL PUMP IN AUGUST. CONTACTED MY DEALER IN OCT. 23, AND THEY SAY THERE ARE NO PARTS TO REPLACE MY FUEL PUMP. I LOOKED AT THE DANGERS IF IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, ONE OF WHICH IS MY CAR COULD LOOSE POWER AND JUST STOP AS I AM DRIVING MY CAR. I HAVE TO DRIVE ON HIGHWAYS AND I AM SCARED ABOUT THIS. WHY DON'T THEY HAVE THE PARTS FROM VW TO FIX MY FUEL PUMP?
I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF WHILE IN DRIVE MODE. MY VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHEN ENTERING A BUSY HIGHWAY. I TRIED TO RESTART WITH NO LUCK. I THEN HAD TO CALL HIGHWAY PATROL TO HELP ME MOVE MY VEHICLE TO A SAFE PLACE. ONCE IN A SAFE PLACE OFF THE BUSY HIGHWAY I CALLED A TOW TRUCK WHO TOWED MY VEHICLE TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALER. THE DEALER REPAIR SERVICE SCANNED THE SYSTEM AND FOUND THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE BURNED UP FROM THE FUEL PUMP DRAWING TOO MANY AMPS. THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE REPAIR TOLD ME I HAD TO SPEND OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIR FOR THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE WAS NOT YET AVAILABLE. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE CUSTOMER CARE NUMBER ON THE RECALL NOTICE TO FIND OUT ABOUT RECEIVING A REFUND ON THE REPAIR SINCE IT WAS DUE TO THE RECALL. I CALLED AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT YET A REPAIR AVAILABLE AND I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS RECALL REPAIR AND WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE MY MONEY BACK. I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE OCT. 2017; MY CAR SHUT OFF ON THE RAMP WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY OCT. 21, 2017. IT IS NOW THE END OF FEB. 2018 WITH NO RESOLUTION TO THE RECALL ISSUE.
TAKATA RECALL NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 17V509 SUMMARY ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THERE COULD BE AN INTERRUPTION IN ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE FUEL PUMP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY, RESULTING IN A DRAINED BATTERY AND/OR A NO START CONDITION, OR CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, WHICH COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH CAUSING INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. RECALL STATUS RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE REMEDY REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE AND RELOCATE IT WITHIN THE VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL FROM VW IN OCTOBER OF 2017. IT SAID THERE COULD BE AN INTERRUPTION TO THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. RESULT COULD BE FUEL PUMP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY, RESULTING IN DRAINED BATTERY AND/OR A NOT TART CONDITION OR CAUSE A LOTT OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE THE CARE IS IN MOTION. AFTER CONTACTING THEM NOW (JUNE 15, 2018) THEY HAVE NO FURTHER INFORMATION AT THIS TIME. IS THIS USUAL WITH A RECALL THAT SEEMS DANGEROUS?
FOUND OUT THERE WAS A TIMING CHAIN ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE WHERE IT JUMPED 22 DEGREES. AFTER RESEARCH HAVE FOUND ON A NUMBER OF FORUMS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE IN BOTH VW AND AUDI VEHICLES. VW WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL, THE CLAIM IS, DUE TO IT BEING TOO WIDESPREAD AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. UNDER MOST CIRCUMSTANCES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, IT CAUSES CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. LUCKILY, MINE DID NOT JUMP THAT FAR, BUT IT STILL WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO HAPPEN. WELL NOW I HAVE HAD $4200 IN REPAIRS MADE TO MY ENGINE DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND I THINK VW SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR IT.

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE CONTACT BEGAN DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS FUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTONATION VOLKSWAGEN LAS VEGAS (6375 W SAHARA AVE, LAS VEGAS, NV 89146, (702) 605-5802), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GARVEY VOLKSWAGEN (483 QUAKER RD, QUEENSBURY, NY 12804, (518) 793-3488). THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TWICE AFTER THE CRASH AND WAS INFORMED THAT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, AND FURTHER TESTING WAS NEEDED ON THE FUEL PUMP. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A NEW FUEL PUMP WAS INSTALLED. ONE MONTH LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

ON 1 SEPTEMBER 2017, I PARKED MY VW IN MY GARAGE. THERE WERE NO ENGINE LIGHTS ON OR ANYTHING, BUT THE CAR HAD BEEN MAKING A LOUD FAN LIKE NOISE AFTER I REMOVED THE KEY FOB FROM THE IGNITION. ITS BEEN DOING THAT SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I DIDN'T START THE CAR BACK UP UNTIL 5 SEPTEMBER 2017 AFTER RETURNING FROM A WEEKEND WITH FAMILY. WHEN I STARTED MY VW UP I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOW ILLUMINATED. I WAITED ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE I TOOK ANY ACTION HOPING THAT THE LIGHT WOULD JUST GO AWAY ON ITS OWN, BUT IT DIDN'T. ON 12 SEPTEMBER I TOOK THE CAR TO THE NEAREST AUTOZONE AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THEIR FREE ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. THE ERROR CODES READ "P0171 SYSTEM TOO LEAN (BANK 1)" AND "P12A2 FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR INAPPROPRIATELY HIGH." AT THE TOP OF THE PAPER IT STATED THAT THE MOST LIKELY SOLUTION FOR THESE ERROR CODES WAS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. ONCE I RETURNED HOME I CALLED THE LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OUT FOR MY MODEL VEHICLE, BUT THERE IS NO FIX AT THE MOMENT. I THEN WENT ONLINE TO SEE FOR MYSELF, THE MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER IS: 20AE AND THE NHTSA MANUFACTURER NUMBER IS: 17V509. I AM NOT SURE WHAT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO RANDOMLY START HAVING THESE ISSUES. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR OUT OF TOWN ANYMORE, I ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK.

WHILE ON 4 LANE ROAD AT 50 MPH THE CAR JUST STOPPED RUNNING. BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND NO POWER TO STEERING OR BRAKING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITHOUT TO MUCH INCIDENCE. VW SENT NOTICE IN OCTOBER REGARDING RECALL AND NOW SAY "PENDING" RECALL SINCE THEY DON'T HAVE A DETERMINED FIX JUST YET. 3 MONTHS AND STILL NO IDEA HOW TO FIX??? I PAID MY LOCAL SHOP $975.00 AS THEY KNEW HOW TO FIX RIGHT AWAY. SIMPLY REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. AND NOW I SIMPLY WISH TO BE REIMBURSED SO I CAN SPEND THAT ON OTHER NEEDED REPAIRS. VW FOUNDED IN 1937, MADE CARS FOR 80 YEARS NOW, AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO REPAIR A FUEL PUMP IN 3 MONTHS??? THAT REMOVES ANY CONFIDENCE ANYONE SHOULD HAVE IN OWNING A VW OF ANY MODEL.
CAR WAS PARKED AND WOULD NOT START. HAD TOWED TO MECHANIC--CASTASTROPIC ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO BROKEN TIMING BELT TENSIONER. 105K MILES--MAINTENANCE UPKEPT. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A LATENT DEFECT IN THE TENSIONER SYSTEM OF THE TIMING CHAIN THAT CAN CAUSE THE CHAIN TO “JUMP A TOOTH” IN THE VEHICLE’S CAMSHAFT, WHICH CAUSES SERIOUS AND SOMETIMES FATAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. UNFORTUNATELY THE DEFECT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR CAR OWNERS TO DISCOVER, BUT AUDI AND VOLKSWAGEN KNEW OF THE TENSIONER SYSTEM PROBLEM SINCE AT LEAST JUNE 2010. NORMALLY, THE TIMING CHAIN IS MEANT TO FUNCTION PERFECTLY FOR AT LEAST 120,000 MILES. BECAUSE THE SYSTEM IS NOT ON THE SCHEDULE FOR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURERS. HOWEVER, WITH THE DEFECTIVE TENSIONER, THE TIMING CHAIN FREQUENTLY FAILS WELL BEFORE THAT MARK, BUT OFTEN AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS ISSUE CAUSED MY ENGINE TO HAVE CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE. WHY HAS THE VW OWNERS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED AND WHY HASN'T THE NTSB DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. 7K+ TO GET A NEW ENGINE. THIS IS AN INTERNAL PART AND NOT A SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ISSUE.VW SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. PEOPLE DON'T HAVE MONEY TO PURCHASE A CAR AND HAVE THE ENGINE FAIL BEFORE CAR IS PAID FOR.
I HAVE CHANGED FEW BATTERIES BEFORE AND LAST SERVICE DEALER CLAIMED ISSUE WITH BATTERY IS DUE TO INSIDE LIGHT WHICH IT WASN'T AND IT LOOKS LIKE THE FUEL PUMP THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED SOON. THE DEALER SEEMS NOT READY READY YET WITHOUT WV APPROVAL.
MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN STOPED STARTING, SO I HAD IT TOWED INTO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY RAN A FEW TESTS AND DETERMINED THAT MY TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED WHICH RESULTED IN THE FAILURE OF MY ENGINE. THIS RESULTING IN THE FUEL PUMP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY, RESULTING IN A DRAINED BATTERY AND CAUSE A LOSS OF MOTIVE POWER WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, THIS HAPPENED TODAY ON HIGHWAY AND ALMOST I WAS GOING TO HAVE A FATAL ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING AND REPEATED ISSUED FOR MANY VW AND AUDIT OWNERS AND THAT THERE ARE THREE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS FILED FOR TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER PROBLEMS. VW OF AMERICA WAS NOT HELPFUL. WHY SHOULD THE CONSUMER BE OUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR WHAT SHOULD BE A KNOWN DEFECT. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 105,000 MILES.

THERE IS A LATENT DEFECT IN THE TENSIONER SYSTEM OF THE TIMING CHAIN THAT CAN CAUSE THE CHAIN TO 'JUMP A TOOTH' IN THE VEHICLE'S CAMSHAFT, WHICH CAUSES SERIOUS AND SOMETIMES FATAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. UNFORTUNATELY THE DEFECT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR CAR OWNERS TO DISCOVER, BUT AUDI AND VOLKSWAGEN KNEW OF THE TENSIONER SYSTEM PROBLEM SINCE AT LEAST JUNE 2010. NORMALLY, THE TIMING CHAIN IS MEANT TO FUNCTION PERFECTLY FOR AT LEAST 120,000 MILES. BECAUSE THE SYSTEM IS NOT ON THE SCHEDULE FOR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE FROM THE MANUFACTURERS. SOMEONE IN THE PARKING VOLUNTEERED TO HELP HER. THEY DECIDED TO JUMP START THE CAR WITH A JUMP BOX, THE CAR STARTED AND SHE MADE IT HOME. ONCE SHE GOT HOME SHE TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT DID NOT START. SHE IS A SINGLE MOTHER AND DO NOT MAKE A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX HER CAR, AFTER A MONTH AND HALF OF THE CAR BEEN PARK AT HOME AND TAKING RIDES FROM WHOEVER CAN TAKE HER, WE DECIDED TO GET A MECHANIC THAT WORKS FOR VW DEALERSHIP. HE CAME AND FULLY CHECKED THE CAR AND TOLD US THAT THE TIMING CHAIN/BELT JUMPED AND THAT ENGINE IT'S OUT OF TIME, WHICH IT COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED FROM A BAD TENSIONER. HE SAID THIS IS A REAL BAD ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE THE VALVE TO BE BENDED. HE GAVE US AN EXPENSIVE PRICE TO FIX THE CAR, SO WE DECIDED TO WAIT AND BE PATIENCE AND BE OPTIMISTIC THAT IT WASN'T THAT SINCE MY MOTHER IN LAW DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT. A MONTH LATER WE DECIDED TO GET OTHER MECHANICS TO GET DIFFERENT OPINIONS, THEY ALL SAID IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE. ONE OF THE MECHANICS CAME AND CHECKED THE PRESSURE OF THE ENGINE AND IT STAY ON 0 AND THAT'S WHEN HE CONFIRMED THAT VALVES ARE BENDED. I HAVE CHECKED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE AND VW KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR SOME TIME, I ALSO SEE THERE IS A LAWSUIT GOING ON THIS ISSUE. I CAN'T BELIEVE AND IT SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE THAT VW KNOWING OF THIS PROBLEM, IT'S NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT FIXING THIS PROBLEM. COULD NOT QUOTE AN EXACT PRICE FOR THE "REPAIR" AS NONE OF THEM HAVE EVER SEEN A REPAIR LIKE THIS NEEDED ON A VW. DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND VW RECALL NO. 48J1/P3 WHICH WAS ISSUED FOR THE 2009 PASSAT BUT APPARENTLY NOT FOR MY VIN? THE HAZARDS AS EXPERIENCED IN THIS PUBLICATION ARE WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING. REAR MAIN SEAL AND BREATHER UNIT BLEW OUT @ 74K MILES. MY VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL AND VACUUM PRESSURE. COST ME $1800 TO REPAIR. IT CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO STALL OUT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING/RESTING AT STOP LIGHTS.
WENT TO WORK ON A SUB ZERO TEMPS DAY. CAR WAS WARMING UP. WENT TO PULL AWAY SHE THE STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WITH A 3 CHIM TONE WARNING AND LOCKED UP THE STEERING COLUMM. HAD CAR TOWED TO AN OTHERIZED DEALSHIP WHERE THEY SCANNED VEHICLE AND FOUND FOUR CODES FOR STEERING RACK BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETECT ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH BOARD.
MY CAR HAS 76000 MILES AND IS OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I JUST GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, AND AFTER REPLACING THE PCV VALVE, AND I WAS TOLD BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE REAR MAIN ENGINE SEAL IS LEAKING. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS POINT AND NOW I HAVE TO SPEND ALMOST $1000 IN REPAIRS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY VW WARRANTY, AS THERE ARE SO MANY CASES OF THIS EXACT FAILURE AT THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES.
