Volkswagen dealership does not want to fulfill the recall.
The contact owned a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the contact suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle. The contact's vehicle crashed into the rear of a semi-truck. In addition, the contact's vehicle crashed into a ditch. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The paramedics and the Police arrived on the scene. A Police report was filed, however thePolice report information was unavailable. The contact sustained eight broken ribs on the left side and two broken ribs on the right side, injury to the left eye which needed stitches, major trauma to the left lung and bruises and cuts. The contact was taken to the local hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was condemned a total loss. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. The contact received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V194000 (Electrical System) however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine failed to turn over. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced; however, the dealer confirmed that parts were not available for the recall repair. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. While driving the vehicle flashed several of the dashboard waring lights, starting dinging and then stopped, started flashing and dinging again then the vehicle completely turned off. I was able to pull over out of traffic but the vehicle would not restart. None of the interior lights would come one and the emergency lights would not come on. I could not unlock any of the doors. The battery has been replaced with in the last year and is working correctly.
the car shuts off while driving which is scary. requires restarting while in traffic. there was a recall in past and the fix clearly did not work. This incident has occurred multiple times.

After getting wires regrounded at the mechanic, the car continues to malfunction. The wiper blades turn on, the entire dash blinks, the seat moves back and forth, resetting repeatedly. If seat is disconnected for safety, the seatbelt does not register as secured. Eventually doors stop functioning, have completely lost lock function, tried replacing battery and sending to mechanic specialist. Still the car malfunctions at random.
My vehicle shows no pending recalls, but ignition switch still malfunctioning whenever it is bumped or a lanyard is on the key. Brakes malfunction, car seat moves, windshield wipers move, car seems to think it is resetting as original recall states is a problem.

The brackets that hold the automatic door wires brake continuously. Then the wire gets pinched in the door and it causes a large amount of electrical problems. The abs, esp bad, brake, and traction control lights come on when the wire gets pinched. These doors were made very poorly and should have been looked over before this vehicle was made.
THANK GOD I WAS NOT GOING FAST. VEHICLE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. WAS ABLE TO PUT IN PARK AND WAS ABLE TO START IT BACK UP. APPARENTLY, THE ROUTAN IS MANUFACTURED BY CRYSLER AND THIS ISSUE ALSO HAPPENS WITH THE 09 TOWN AND COUNTRIES AS WELL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ESC WARNING LIGHT SUDDENLY DISPLAYED, AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM ERRONEOUSLY ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V083000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.*DT*JB
VAN HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. POWER STEERING IS LOST. VEHICLE WILL THEN START RIGHT BACK UP. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR A MINIVAN USED TO TRANSPORT MULTIPLE CHILDREN. NO CODES OR FAULTS ARE RECORDED.
FIVE TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS THE POWER IN THE VAN BASICALLY TURNS OFF. THE STEERING BECOMES NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE AND THE BRAKES BECOME EXTREMELY TIGHT TO THE POINT YOU CAN'T EVEN USE THEM. IT IS TERRIFYING TO HAVE ZERO CONTROL OVER YOUR CAR CONSIDERING I HAVE 4 CHILDREN. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS GOING ONLY 30MPH AND ALSO WHEN I WAS GOING 45 MPH. IT HAPPENS WHEN I'M GOING STRAIGHT AND HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE TURNING. SINCE THE LATEST ISSUE I REFUSE TO DRIVE ANYWHERE THAT I CAN'T TAKE BACK ROADS TO.
DASH FLASHING, HARD START AFTER PUTTING IN A NEW FUSE BOX AND AFTER FLASH FROM THE DEALER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH AN UNKNOWN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V194000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO VOLKSWAGEN OF MACON LOCATED AT 4786 RIVERSIDE DR, MACON, GA 31210, (478)781-7701, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANY INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTERS IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR PROVIDED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE IGNITION SWITCH MODULE WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
MY DRIVERS SIDE BACK SEAT DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY AND WILL OPEN BACK UP IF IT DOES NOT LATCH CORRECTLY. THE ENGINE WIRING WILL MAKE MY CARS DASH LIGHTS ALL COME ON AND MAKE THE WIPERS GO OFF. THE DOOR ONLY DOES THIS WHILE STATIONARY HOWEVER, THE DASH LIGHTS GO OFF WHILE IN MOTION ON A REGULAR STREET GOING LESS THAN 40MPH
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COVER ARE INFLATED , CRACK , BUBBLE, LOOK LIKE THE AIRBAG MAY EXPLOTED.. I CALL VW AND THEY SAY IS IT NORMAL AND NOT SALE THE PART. 2009 MINI VAN. .?? I REALLY NOT THINK THEY CHANGE OR OVERHEATING.. GETTING WORDS .. AND YESTERDAY FROM NOT WEAR THE ROUTAN NOT DRIVE OVER 35 MPH WHEN MY WIFE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND CHECK ENGINE CAME , 4 CODE ,P0733,P0734, P0792. AND ALMOST A TRUCK HIT MY WIFE.. I LOOK ON VW FORUMS AND IT IS COMMON PROBLEM,, WHY THIS IT NOT A RECALL WITH SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING AND PROBLEMS.. UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
WHILE DRIVING CAR IT TURNS OFF. HAS TO BE RESTARTED. FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. NOTICED A PAST RECALL.*DT*JB
THERE ARE TWO ISSUES THAT KEEP OCCURRING THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED. FIRST, SOMETIMES WHEN I START THE VEHICLE EVERY SINGLE LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL BE LIT UP, THE WIPERS WILL BE ON, THE RADIO WON'T WORK, AND NONE OF THE GAUGES WILL BE WORKING. I HAVE TO USE MY GPS JUST TO KNOW WHAT MY SPEED IS SINCE THE SPEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK. I ALSO CAN'T TURN ON MY DEFROST WHEN THIS HAPPENS SO I'M STUCK SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT WAITING. EVENTUALLY IT WILL RANDOMLY SWITCH BACK TO NORMAL AND THEN EVERYTHING WORKS. MY SECOND ISSUE IS THAT I WILL LOSE ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED IN A ROUNDABOUT ONCE WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH! I LOSE IGNITION, POWER STEERING, EVERYTHING. I HAVE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT IT IN PARK, AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. ONE OF THESE DAYS THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A CRASH AND THEN I WILL BE SUING VOLKSWAGEN WHEN MY BABIES GET INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS. FROM THE LOOKS OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF THESE VANS!
I TAKE MY VW ROUTAN TO FINISH THE RECALL .BECAUSED MY DOOR OPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING FROM GEORGIA TO FLORIDA WITH MY 2 DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT AND DRIVER REAR SLIDE DOOR OPEN AT 70 MILES.. VW DEALER TALK ME NO HAVE THE PARTS BUT THEY FIXED AND WHEN I TAKE TO DIFFERENT DEALER THEY TALK ME THEY READY DID THE RECALL AND REPLACED THE HARNESS.. THURSDAY MY WIFE DRIVING AND HAS THE SAME PROBLEM DOOR OPEN WHEN SHE DRIVING.. TAKE THE MINI VAN TO SHOP AND THEY TALK ME DEALER NEVER DID THE RECALL... I ALWAY HAVE THE MINI VAN AND NO ONE TOUCH DEAR BEFORE...
VEHICLE HAS BEEN MOVING AND WILL SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. ALL POWER STEERING, BRAKING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS GO OUT. I HAVE TO TRY TO MANUALLY SWERVE OFF THE ROAD AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND RESTART. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS PROBLEM HAD BEEN FIXED IN 2015 UNDER A RECALL WITH THE WIN MODULE AND VW INDICATES THAT SINCE IT'S BEEN FIXED THEY ONLY OFFER A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. FOR ME TO GET A NEW WIN MODULE, THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WOULD BE $2,000 AND A LONG ESTIMATED TIME WITHOUT THE CAR. THIS CAR IS BLUE BOOKED AS ONLY WORTH $3,500.00. THIS IS AGAIN A FAULTY PIECE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE CAR ONLY HAS 75K MILES. THERE'S NO REASON TO HAVE A CAR WITH 75K MILES AND NEED TWO WIN MODULES SO FAR. I WANT THIS TO BE IN WRITING THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING ON I-95 AND MY CAR SUDDENLY STALLS AND MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD AND 4 1/2 YEAR OLD AND MYSELF END UP IN A CASKET, IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY PRODUCT WHICH THEY WILL NOT COVER AGAIN ON THE RECALL.
CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES CRAZY, SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE GOES CRAZY. RADIO TURNS OFF AND ON, THEN THE VEHICLE TURNS OFF COMPLETELY. IT TURNS ON AFTER. SOMETIMES ALL THIS HAPPENS BEFORE TURNING OFF, SOMETIMES IT TURNS OFF SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING. HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TRYING TO FIX ISSUE WITH NO LUCK. DRIVING IT MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS BUT I CAN'T CHANGE CARS RIGHT NOW. IT HAS HAPPENED BOTH ON SMALL STREETS AND HIGHWAY IN MOTION.
WE PURCHASED THIS USED IN FEBRUARY 2019 AND HAVE SINCE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE RADIO, BACKUP CAMERA, AND DVD PLAYER NOT WORKING. RECENTLY THE CAR NOW JUST SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN A MOUNTAIN ROAD, POWER STEERING FREEZES AND BRAKES ARE VERY LIMITED WHICH WAS VERY SCARY. IT HAPPENED EARLIER IN THE YEAR WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY AND I THOUGHT THAT THE ISSUE WAS BEHIND US AND OUR MECHANIC COULDN'T REPLICATE IT. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND WEREN'T AWARE OF ANY RECALLS. AS OF TODAY I CONTACTED VW AND THEY SAID THAT OUR VAN IGNITION SWITCH WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED AS PART OF THE RECALL AND IT IS NOW OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE WARRANTY CAN'T LAST FOREVER, BUT THIS IS NOW OCCURRING FREQUENTLY 4 MORE TIMES IN THE LAST FEW DAYS, NORMALLY JUST AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING TAKING OFF FOR THE FIRST TIME. IT RESTARTS WHEN PUT IN PARK, BUT THE STARTING PROCESS CRANKS MORE THAN USUAL. DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION IT IS MERELY AN ANNOYANCE OR EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE IS NO WARNING, JUST TURNS OFF AND THE STEERING STIFFNESS IS THE FIRST INDICATION. THE VAN IS NOW PARKED AS IT IS NOT SAFE FOR MY FAMILY TO DRIVE.
I JUST PURCHASED THE 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN. I HAVE HAD IT 3 WEEKS IT RANDOMLY DIED WHEN TEST DRIVING THE VAN AND ALL THE ALARMS AND LIGHTS CAME ON. WE JUST THOUGHT I DIDN'T HAVE THE FOB IN RIGHT. THEN IT STARTED TO RANDOMLY NOT START, EVEN THE REMOTE START WILL NOT WORK. THE LIGHTS, RADIO, ALARM, WINDOWS AND DOOR LOCKS WORK LIKE THEY NORMALLY SHOULD. USUALLY IF I WAIT LIKE 20 MINUTES AND KEEP TRYING THE KEY (TAKING IT OUT OF THE IGNITION AND REINSERTING IT) UNTIL IT STARTS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR 7 DAYS. THURSDAY 10/10/2019 NOTHING WORKED LET IT SIT OVERNIGHT AND STILL NOTHING TRIED TO JUMP IT AND IT FINALLY STARTED. TOOK TO PLACE I PURCHASED JD BYRIDER IN JANESVILLE, WI AND THEY BELIEVE IT WAS THE STARTER BECAUSE IT WAS NOT TURNING AND IT WAS REPLACED ON 10/11/2019. THEN 2 HOURS LATER THE CAR AGAIN WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE DEALER CAME TO RESCUE ME AND WE TRIED THE ACTUAL KEY AND AT FIRST IT DIDN'T WORK, WE PUSHED THE GAS AND IT AS AS THE GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS BUT STARTED. THEN DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 26 FROM JOHNSON CREEK, WI TO JANESVILLE, WI, IT WAS MAKING SQUEAKING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE. WE COULD HEAR IT THROUGH THE HEATING VENTS. THEN THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND IT KEPT DINGING. WHEN I GOT TO JANESVILLE, I CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE ON ALL THE TIRES AND IT WAS FINE. BECAUSE I LIVE IN ROCKFORD, IL, I DROVE DOWN I90 AND THE CAR AT TIMES STARTED SHAKING LIKE IT WAS GOING DIED. AGAIN, TODAY IT WON'T START NOT EVEN WITH AN ACTUAL KEY. ALSO, THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR LOCK IS NOT WORKING AND HAD TO HAVE A PART ORDERED. THE VEHICLE HAS 129,000 MILES.
TIPM BOX NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, VW DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS FAULTY AND HAS GLITCHES THAT NEED TO BE REPAIRED BUT IT EXCEEDS MY WARRANTY. I PURCHASED THIS VAN 3 WEEKS AGO AND THE RADIO WILL GO OUT OR STAY ON, THE WIPERS WILL COME ON BY THEMSELVES AND THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WILL COME ON.
FIRST MY ROUTAN HAS BEEN IN MY POSESSION FOR I BELIEVE ABOUT 5 YEARS. I CHECK THE OIL REGULARY AND KEEP OIL CHANGES, TIRES, AND INSPECTIONS UP TO DATE ARE REGULAR. SINCE OWNING IT, I HAVE HAD A HUGE ANTIFREEZE LEAK (WHILE ON VACATION), WHICH WAS AN EASY FIX, BUT ESSENTIALLY THE PART MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH IS ABSURD! I WAS HAVING A LOT OF ISSUES WITH IT NOT STARTING. YOU WOULD HAVE TO TRY TO START IT OVER AND OVER, AND JUST WHEN YOU CALLED A GARAGE IT WOULD START (THIS ISSUE SEEMED TO BE FIXED WHEN THE DEALER CHANGED THE IGNITION, PER THE RECALL) FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, THE GOVENER KICKIS IN, AND THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY GO 30MPH. IT HAPPENS INFREQUENTLY, BUT SEEMS TO BECOMING MORE FREQUENT. THE SOLUTION IS TO PULL OVER, TURN IT OFF, START IT BACK UP, AND YOUR GOOD TO GO FOR DAYS TO WEEKS UNTIL IT DOES IT AGAIN. TYPICALLY IT HAPPENS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING A TRIP, AND WHILE GAINING SPEED, YOU SUDDENLY CANNOT GO THE SPEED YOU WOULD LIKE. I DO BELIEVE IT CONTINUES TO GET MORE FREQUENT IN OCCURANCE ****NOW THE SCARY THING THAT GETS ME TO FILE A COMPLAINT**** I HAVE SEEN THIS LISTED MANY TIMES ALREADY. MY HUSBAND WAS AGAIN AWAY ON A TRIP THIS WEEKEND. HE HAD JUST DONE A LOT OF CIRCLE TYPE STEERING AT THE GAS STATION TRYING TO PARK (I MENTION THIS BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE AFTER A ROUND ABOUT). HE PARKED. HE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, HE BACKED UP, AND WHEN HE TRIED TO TURN TO GET OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT, THERE WAS NO STEERING. HE PULLED FORWARD. HE PUT IT IN PARK, HE TURNED IT OFF. HE STARTED IT, HE DROVE 2.5 HOURS HOME WITH MY 3 KIDS UNDER 9. HE HAD NO ISSUES. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR, I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THANKFULLY HE WAS GOING 2 MPH, BUT I HAVE SEEN CASES OF PEOPLE ON THE INTERSTATE. WHAT IF I DRIVE IT, AND WE HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND MY FAMILY DIES? HOW CAN I DRIVE A CAR THAT LOST STEERING AND FEEL SAFE!?
THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME THING YET VW REFUSES TO ADMIT IT IS A PROBLEM. MY ELECTRICAL WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. I WILL NORMALLY LOOSE ANYTHING ELECTRICAL, THROTTLE, SOMETIMES POWER STEERING. THEN THE ELECTRICAL COMES BACK ON AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER COME ON. IT WILL CONTINUALLY DO THIS, EVEN WHEN YOU ARE ON THE FREEWAY. THEY ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO DENY THIS UNTIL SOMEBODY IS KILLED OR SEVERELY INJURED DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION. I BOUGHT MY 2009 VW ROUTAN USED AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS DODGING REPLACING THE TPIM/IGNITION SWITCH, PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE. VW SHOULD ALSO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SINCE IT IS HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE. PLEASE IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVE A VW ROUTAN WITH THIS ISSUE, MAKE A REPORT AND BRING THIS TO LIGHT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SEIZED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION WHEN IT WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME BY THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 129,631. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
VEHICLE WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT START EVEN AFTER MULTIPLE TRY'S. VEHICLE SHUTS OFF DURING DRIVING EVENTS CITY AND HIGHWAY. ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON. INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON AUTOMATICALLY DURING DRIVING. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TO A VW DEALER 4 TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE AND THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSES, NOR REMEDY THE ISSUE. I HAVE SPENT WELL OVER $2,000 FOR THESE VW DEALER VISITS. THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT BY CHRYSLER FOR VW AND CHRYSLER ISSUED A RECALL ON THE TIPM FOR THE CHRYSLER VEHICLES. VW REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE TIPM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING AND ALL POWER AND BRAKING FUNCTIONS ARE LOST. AT THIS TIME, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $1,500 TO HAVE VW REPLACE THE TIPM IN THE HOPES THAT IT RESOLVES THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE AND KEEPS MY FAMILY SAFE. NHTSA MUST INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER AND REALIZE THAT IT APPLIES TO VW ROUTAN VEHICLES BUILT BY THEM AS WELL, AND FORCE VW TO RECALL THE VEHICLES AND FIX THE ISSUE AT THEIR COST AND PROVIDE FULL REIMBURSEMENT TO ALL ROUTAN OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS SAME SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AUTOMATICALLY WHILE DRIVING. NO SPECIFIC TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE, NO SPECIFIC TIME OF DAY, JUST SHUTS OFF MORE THEN ONCE WHILE DRIVING TO LOCATIONS.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ONE NIGHT AND THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS ACTIVATING BY ITSELF. TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. WHICH IS THE WHOLE CLOCKSPRING. THEY TOLD ME THE SENSOR IS SAYING I'M AT A 42 DEGREE ANGLE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS STRAIGHT. THE ANGLE OF THE SENSOR SHOULD BE 0-15 DEGREES. BECAUSE OF THIS IT'S TELLING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM THAT I'M ABOUT TO FLIP CAUSING THE BRAKES TO APPLY BY THEMSELVES. I'M NOT ABLE TO DRIVE OVER 20MPH WITHOUT IT ACTIVATING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO GET IT REPAIRED SO I HAD TO DISABLE THE WHOLE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM UNTIL I HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE IT.
FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IN 2018 OUR 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN WOULD NOT START, WINDOWS WOULD NOT WORK CORRECTLY, ETC. ON NOVEMBER 10TH, 2018, OUR 2009 VOLKSWAGEN ROUTAN WAS STATIONARY AND WOULD NOT START AT ALL. CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE IT TAKEN TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. TOW TRUCK DRIVER MESSED WITH THE VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO START IT AND WE DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED OUR VEHICLE ON 11/10/18. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED US THAT THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL ON THE "WIN MODULE" AND THEY WOULD CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN FOR THE REPLACEMENT PARTS. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT RECEIVE THE PART UNTIL 11/15/18 AND THE PART WAS USED/PROGRAMMED FOR A DIFFERENT VEHICLE THEREFORE IT WAS UNABLE TO BE INSTALLED IN OUR VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP THEN PROVIDED US WITH A LOANER VEHICLE AND CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN FOR YET ANOTHER UNUSED PART. IT IS NOW 11/28/18 AND WE STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR VEHICLE. THE PART WAS RECEIVED AND INSTALLED HOWEVER THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY WILL NO LONGER HOLD A CHARGE. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO PUT A NEW BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE AND WE WILL HAVE TO PAY $150.00 FOR THE BATTERY AND INSTALLATION. WE NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE OF THIS RECALL. MY HUSBAND LOST 2 DAYS OF PAY. WE HAD TO RELY ON 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE TO GET MY HUSBAND TO AND FROM WORK. I AM DISABLED AND HAD SURGERY ON 10/23/18 AND UNABLE TO GET TO PHYSICAL THERAPY LET ALONE LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR A WEEK BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T HAVE ANY AVAILABLE LOANER VEHICLES UNTIL 11/15/18. THIS HAS BEEN A DANGER TO MY FAMILY/CHILDREN AND A GREAT INCONVENIENCE. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE MANUFACTURER PLACED A CHRYSLER ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION INTO HER VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLE. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC COMPLETED THE REPAIRS WITH ANOTHER NEW CHRYSLER TRANSMISSION SOLENOID PART. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE ACCELERATION AND HAD TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. HAVING NO BRAKES AND NO POWER STEERING MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE. I TURNED ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS WHEN CAR FINALLY STOPED TURNED TO OFF POSITION THEN RESTARTED ENGINE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND MY WIFE. PROBLEM CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED BY DEALER WHY CAN'T CHRYSLER FIX THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. SINCE BUYING OUR 2009 ROUTAN IN THE FALL OF 2016 WE HAVE SUNK THOUSANDS INTO IT TRYING TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES WE HAVE HAD SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT (OURS DID NOT COME WITH A WARRANTY FROM THE VW DEALER). AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK, AND SOMETIMES MORE, IT STALLS WHILE WE ARE DRIVING...USUALLY AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE WHEN WE ARE SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN OR SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOPLIGHT. USUALLY, ALL OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND CONTROLS WILL BLINK AND DING REPEATEDLY BEFORE STALLING. IT ALSO STALLS WHEN SITTING STILL. IT WILL BLINK ALL OF THE LIGHTS, THE CONTROLS WILL GO CRAZY AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL GO BACK AND FORTH ONE TIME AS IT STALLS. ON DEC 11 IT STALLED ON A MAJOR ROAD IN CHARLOTTE, NC AND I LOST ALL POWER SO I COULD NOT EVEN PUT ON MY FLASHERS. I HAVE AN AUTISTIC CHILD WHO WAS FREAKING OUT BECAUSE I WAS TRYING TO GET ALL OF THE KIDS TO BE QUIET SO I COULD CALL MY HUSBAND AS WE WERE SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. WE WERE IN A MIDDLE LANE AND THE WINDOWS WERE UP SO I HAD TO OPEN MY DOOR QUICKLY AND WAVE FOR PEOPLE TO GO AROUND US. I KEPT WATCHING MY REAR VIEW MIRROR AND PRAYING WE WOULDN'T GET HIT AS CARS ZIPPED AROUND US HONKING. THE KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION SINCE THERE WAS NO POWER. MY HUSBAND WAS HEADED TOWARDS US AND I WAVED PEOPLE AROUND US FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES WHILE JINGLING THE KEY AND TRYING EVERYTHING TO GET SOMETHING TO WORK. THE POWER FINALLY CAME BACK AND THE KEY CAME OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND GET HOME BUT MY KIDS ARE AFRAID TO GO ANYWHERE IN THAT VAN AGAIN. WE HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, THE CONTROL MODULE (ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE THINGS WE TRIED), THE ERG VALVE, THE ALTERNATOR, AND SOME OTHER PARTS OUR MECHANIC WANTED TO TRY. SUPER EAGLE AUTO CARE HAS BEEN SUPER HELPFUL IN TRYING TO FIX IT BUT TO NO AVAIL. WE HAVE LEARNED SINCE BUYING THIS VEHICLE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR VW ROUTAN.

AS OF JANUARY 2017 I HAVE HAD THE REPEATED ISSUE OF THE CAR NOT STARTING WHEN TURNED ON. NOTE THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION WAS DONE BY THE VW DEALER PREVIOUSLY. THE CAR NOT STARTING AT FIRST OCCURRED ONCE AND AWHILE. THEN BECAME MORE CONSISTENT, I REPLACED THE STARTER IN MARCH 2017 THINKING THAT WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE. SINCE THEN THE PROBLEM KEEPS OCCURRING. VW DEALER HAS NO IDEA WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND WANTS ME TO REPLACE THE STARTER AGAIN. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE'S A CLICK WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR AND THIS IS AFTER THE BATTERY AND STARTER HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE LONGEST I'VE WAITED FOR THE CAR TO START IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES. I ATTEMPT TO START IT A FEW MINUTES ARE SITTING IN THE CAR, SOMETIMES IT TAKES ONE TRY SOMETIMES IT TAKES 20 TRIES THEN THE CAR WILL START UP. I'VE REPORTED THIS TO VW CARE AND THEY ADVISED ME TO GET THE STARTER REPLACED AGAIN, SPENDING MORE MONEY. THIS IS NOT A CUSTOMER CARE ISSUE, THIS IS ON THE VW COMPANY.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, HEADLIGHTS, AND RADIO FAILED TO WORK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER, OPENED THE HOOD, AND SAW NO SIGN OF A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE STARTER HAD FAILED (BURNED) AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING LINE FAILED AND LEAKED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WERE SO MANY ELECTRICAL FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE AND RECOMMENDED HER TO CONTACT NHTSA. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 15V194000 AND 14V396000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION SWITCH). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

WE TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH AND HAD A NEW STARTER INSTALLED, THIS WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. I WOULD BUY ANOTHER CAR, BUT RIGHT NOW THIS IS NOT AN OPTION FOR US. WE NEED HELP!
