TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEGEND VOLKSWAGEN (SIDE A, 158 MERRICK RD, AMITYVILLE, NY 11701) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION (POD) UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
THE GAS TANK DOOR OFTEN GETS STUCK AND WON'T OPEN. IT HAPPENED AT LEAST TWO DOZEN TIMES TO ME. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT HAPPENS WHEN GAS LEVEL IS VERY LOW. ONE TIME IT WAS NEAR MIDNIGHT AND I WAS AT A GAS STATION IN THE VERY REMOTE AREA. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY. IF YOU SEARCH ONLINE, YOU WILL SEE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR VW AND AUDI CARS. IT IS EVIDENT THAT IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT VW HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED PERMANENTLY. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
I HAVE FAITHFULLY TAKEN MY VOLKSWAGON TIGUAN 2012 TO A VW DEALERSHIP EVERY 10,000 MILES, AS RECOMMENDED, SO I WOULD SAVE THE LIFE OF MY ENGINE, IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED A CERTIFIED PREOWNED VEHICLE AND LAST ME 10-15 YEARS. MY CAR WOULDN'T START SATURDAY MORNING 12/16/18 IN MY GARAGE, I HAD JUST DRIVEN IT THE NIGHT BEFORE AND PARKED IN IT MY GARAGE ABOUT 8PM. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE VW DEALERSHIP THAT HAS BEEN SERVICING MY VEHICLE.. THEY CALLED ME ON 12/20/18 AND TOLD ME MY TIMING CHAIN FAILED AND THAT MY ENGINE HAD CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE AND I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE WHICH WOULD BE $9500. (?) REALLY I THEN PROCEEDED TO CALL VOLKSWAGEN MAIN HEADQUARTERS. THE GENTLEMAN TOOK ALL OF MY INFORMATION DOWN, ASKED ME WHAT I THINK SHOULD HAPPEN AND I TOLD HIM I WANTED HELP WITH REPAIRING THE ENGINE. I PAID A LARGE PRICE FOR THIS 'QUALITY VEHICLE', HAD IT SERVICED FAITHFULLY AS INSTRUCTED BY VW AND WAS NEVER INFORMED ABOUT A RECAL ON THIS FAULTY TENSION CHAIN FAILURE AND WAS NEVER INFORMED TO HAVE MY TIMING CHAIN REPLACED AT 60,000 MILES. IT'S ONLY 6 YEARS OLD FOR GOD'S SAKE. HE PUT ME ON HOLD, CAME BACK AND TOLD TELL ME HE WAS SO SORRY THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE OF 138,000. (HIGHWAY MILES)
I WAS DRIVING MY TIGUAN WHEN IT STALLED OUT AT THE END OF THE STREET. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN AND IT STARTED JUST FINE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR UP THE STREET WHEN IT STARTED JERKING, SPUTTERING, AND LURCHING, LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO GO FORWARD. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT THIS TIME. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 1000 FEET TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON. WE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN THIS MORNING, AND IT DID THE SAME THING: LURCHING, JERKING, AND SPUTTERING. IT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 500 FEET. AGAIN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON.
THE WATER PUMP HAS BEEN CRACKED, LEAKING THE COOLANT. THE CAR ENGINE WAS OVERHEATED BUT DIDN'T LEAD TO ACCIDENTS IN MY CASE. VW GROUP IS PRODUCING THE WATER PUMP OUT OF PLASTIC, WHICH EVENTUALLY CRACKS FOR MANY OF VW AND AUDI CAR OWNERS, AND COULD LEAD TO THE ROAD ACCIDENT INDIRECTLY.
2012 VW TIGUAN WAS SENT INTO THE DEALER FOR BRAKES. DEALER STATED THE SPRING WAS RUSTED AND CRACKED AT AROUND 70K MILES ONLY. UPON QUESTIONING REGARDING THE PREMATURE DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION THE DEALER STATED "IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM." THE DEALER CHARGED AROUND $700 FOR THE REPAIR. SOUNDS LIKE A NECESSARY SAFETY RECALL TO ME.
IN DECEMBER 2015, AN ISSUE WITH THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPAIRED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL FUNCTIONS CEASED TO WORK. THIS WAS NOT A VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL, BUT THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. JUST THIS WEEK, THE PART AGAIN FAILED, WITH A CLICKING SOUND FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. AGAIN, AIRBAG LIGHT ON WITH NO CONTROLS ON STEERING WHEEL WORKING. THE CAR NOR PART IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN THIS OCCURRED.
MY VEHICLE LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. LATER IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY TIMING CHAIN HAS "BROKEN TIME" AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER BY IMPORT SERVICE CENTER (122 SUNSET LN, CLEVELAND, TN 37312, (423) 478-5766), BUT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,657.
FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, INTERMITTENTLY BUT CONSISTENTLY, THE CAR WILL LOSE POWER AFTER A WARM START. IGNITION TURNS OVER APPROPRIATELY AND STARTS, BUT AFTER PULLING OUT OF PARKING SPOT IN A LOT OR INTO TRAFFIC, THE CAR JUST LOSES POWER. BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON AND YOU HAVE TO PUT CAR BACK IN PARK AND START IT AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME IT STARTS IT STRUGGLES BUT RESTARTS AND TYPICALLY DOES NOT LOSE POWER OR STALL AGAIN. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START TO LOSE POWER AND AS YOU PREPARE FOR IT TO STALL IT REGAINS POWER AND SHOOTS FORWARD REGARDLESS OF HOW LIGHTLY YOU'RE GASSING IT. I HAVE GONE FOR SERVICE MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY RULED OUT BATTERY, CONNECTIONS, ALTERNATOR, ETC. AND SAY THEY CAN NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER KEEPING THE CAR FOR DAYS AND DRIVING IT AROUND, YET IT HAS LITERALLY HAPPENED WHEN I HAVE BEEN LEAVING THE DEALER. SOMETIMES THE EPC LIGHT GOES ON AFTER THIS OCCURS BUT NEVER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THIS HAPPENS MORE OFTEN WHEN THE WEATHER IS MILD AND WHEN THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN RUNNING FOR SOME TIME. NEVER HESITATES ON A COLD START.
ON THIS JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, THE ENGINE OF OUR 2012 TIGUAN (LESS THAN 52K MILES, FIRST OWNER) BEGAN TO STUTTER ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH. THIS OCCURRED AT 70 MPH IN THE FAST LANE OF A 6-LANE FREEWAY AT A MERGE (I-85 AT THE MERGE WITH GA-400 SOUTHBOUND). EVEN AS THE VEHICLE DRAMATICALLY LOST SPEED, WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER INTO THE SLOWER LANES SAFELY. TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND FAST THAT AFTERNOON. I PROMPTLY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE VW DEALERSHIP (NALLEY VW OF ROSWELL) FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING, ANXIOUS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. I WAS INFORMED THAT CYLINDER 2 WAS MISFIRING. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND THAT COILS WOULD FAIL AT AS LOW A MILEAGE AND HAD CREATED AN UNSAFE SITUATION FOR US. IT APPEARS THERE ARE NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF COIL FAILURE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED AND INFORMED VW OF THE ISSUE. THEY DECLINED TO TAKE ANY ACTION TO COMPENSATE ME FOR SUCH PREMATURE COMPONENT FAILURE, LET ALONE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE FAILURE MADE FOR AN UNSAFE CONDITION ON THE ROAD. THE VW SERVICE CENTER REPLACED ALL FOUR COILS AND SPARK PLUGS THE FOLLOWING DAY, CORRECTING THE PROBLEM.
CLOCK SPRING FAILURE IN MOTION WHILE TURNING ON A CITY STREET WITH A LITTLE OVER 40K MILES ON VEHICLE. THIS VIN NUMBER DID NOT APPEAR ON 15V-483 RECALL. RECOMMEND INCLUSION OF THIS COMPLAINT ON THE RQ 17-009 INVESTIGATION TO WIDEN THE RECALLED VIN'S. REPAIR DONE BY OKC VOLKSWAGEN AT A COST OF $600
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING FAILED. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE AIR BAG ERROR WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, WHICH WAS A SAFETY CONCERN. IN ADDITION, THE HORN FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUNRISE VOLKSWAGEN (931 SUNRISE HIGHWAY, LYNBROOK, NEW YORK 11563, 516-596-5970) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V483000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
THERE WAS WATER LEAKING AND I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A VW DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR. THEY INVESTIGATED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND OUT THAT WATER LEAKS FROM THE SUNROOF FRAME. THEY STATED THAT THE LEAK IS IN A LOCATION THAT CANNOT BE FOUND AND CANNOT BE REPAIRED. THUS I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRAME. THE SUNROOF FRAME IS FAULT EVEN I HAD NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE OR ACCIDENT ON MY VEHICLE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE SERIOUSLY INVESTIGATED SINCE WATER LEAKING FROM THE SUNROOF MAY CAUSE MANY OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE.

REEVES VOLKSWAGEN (11337 N FLORIDA AVE, TAMPA, FL 33612, (813) 935-3354) WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT IT WAS NOT A KNOWN FAILURE AND TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,846. *DT CONSUMER STATED REPAIR WAS MADE BY THE DEALER. *JB
PANORAMIC SUNROOF EXPLODING AND SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING, BROKEN PIECES OF GLASS FALLING INTO DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S CABIN.
THERE WAS NO CRASH OR PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE, AIRBAG SYSTEM IS MALFUNCTIONING. FOR ABOUT A WEEK NOW, "ERROR: AIRBAG" MESSAGE IS SHOWN UP ON DASHBOARD AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS TURNED ON. IN ADDITION TO THAT, EVEN I BUCKLED UP, WHEN I MAKE A RIGHT TURN SEAT BELT ALARM IS BEEPING AND SEAT BELT LIGHT HAS TURNED ON WHILE I AM DRIVING. I AM CONCERNING ABOUT THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I AM DRIVING MY CAR EVERYDAY WITH POTENTIAL THREAT OF ACCIDENT WITHOUT AIRBAGS BEING DEPLOYED.
AIRBAG INFIGHTER CLOCK SPRING FAILS EVEN AFTER INSTALLING RECALL 15V483000. THIS IS A $664+TAX REPAIR AT TH VW DEALER. IN THE M A TIME, NO HORN, AIRBAG OR STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS WORK. ERROR CODE 00588 IS THROWN. AIRBAG IDIOT LIGHT IS ON AS WELL AS AN ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY WHEN YOU START THE CAR
CLOCK SPRING IN STEERING COLUMN BROKE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL. AS A RESULT, AIRBAG LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED, INDICATING AN AIRBAG FAULT. AIRBAG ERROR ALSO INDICATED ON THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION SCREEN. IN ADDITION, ALL STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS HAVE STOPPED WORKING. UPON RESEARCHING, THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE, AND ALSO A RECALL ITEM. IN CALLING THE LOCAL DEALER, I WAS REFERRED TO VW OF AMERICA FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY LOOKED INTO MY VIN, SND INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN IN UNDER RECALL TO HAVE THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED (2016), AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY FURTHER WORK RELATED TO THIS ISSUE ON MY VEHICLE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT VOLKSWAGEN, UNDER THE ORIGINAL RECALL, REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING WITH THE SAME, OR EVEN A MORE INFERIOR QUALITY PART. THUS LEADING TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION, IN AN AIRBAG SYSTEM FAULT. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO RECTIFY ANY 'SUPPOSED" PRIOR FIXES THE VW HAD DONE, AS SO MANY ARE HAVING ISSUES AFTER HAVING THE RECALL WORK DONE.
SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED WITH A LOUD BOMB-LIKE SOUND. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 80 IN WEST SACRAMENTO, CA TOWARD DOWNTOWN. THE SUNSHADE WAS CLOSED AND CAUGHT THE GRAVEL-LIKE PIECES OF GLASS. AS I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, THE GLASS CONTINUED TO CRACK INTO MORE PIECES AND COLLAPSE INTO THE SHADE. 75% OF THE SUNROOF GLASS WAS GONE, LEAVING A LARGE WHOLE IN THE ROOF WHEN I STOPPED, INSPECTED, AND CALLED FOR A TOW HOME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
TIMING TENSIONER CHAIN BLEW AND SHREDDED OUR ENGINE AT 65,000 MILES. METAL PIECES WERE FOUND IN THE OIL PAN. THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE CAR FAILED TO START - THANKFULLY NOT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. VW SERVICE TRIED TO INSINUATE THAT WE MAY NOT HAVE CHANGED THE OIL OFTEN ENOUGH, WHICH IS LOW CONSIDERING WE HAVE ALL RECORDS SHOWING WE CHANGED THE OIL EXACTLY WHEN PRESCRIBED BY VW, AS THE SERVICE GUY LATER ADMITTED. THE REAL ISSUE IS THE TENSIONER CHAIN IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO FAILURE. THIS IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS (I.E. IF THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE ON A HIGHWAY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE BACK) BUT EXPENSIVE, AND IT IS INFURIATING THAT VW DID NOT RECOMMEND A SIMPLE REPLACEMENT WHEN THEY BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, I HEARD A CRACK FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. AN ERROR: AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE HORN AND STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS STOPPED WORKING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CLOCK SPRING FAILURE. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THIS PART, AND IT WAS PROBABLY REPLACED UNDER PREVIOUS OWNERSHIP. WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER ASAP.
IN JAN 2018 WITH LESS THEN 58K MILES ON IT MY 2012 TIGUAN STARTED LOSING COOLANT. I WAS DRIVING AND THE THERMOSTAT SENSOR WENT OFF, I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE COOLANT LEVEL WAS VERY LOW. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A LEAKING WATER PUMP WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT THE SAME TIME THE SERPENTINE BELT AND TENSIONER ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED VW AND THEY SAID BECAUSE MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY BOUGHT IN 2011 THAT THE 5 YEAR / 60K POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH WOULD HAVE COVERED THIS NO LONGER APPLIED (E.G. BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER 5 YEARS FROM SALE) AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME (E.G. I WAS ON MY OWN TO FIX IT). THE REPAIR WAS ~$1300 WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATING ON A CAR WITH LOW MILES THAT IS DRIVEN CAREFULLY AND WELL CARED FOR. THE MORE FRUSTRATING THING IS THAT VW HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE ON THEIR GTI MODELS FROM THESE EXACT SAME YEARS AND ISSUED A RECALL ON THESE WATER PUMPS ( SEE: HTTPS://HUMBLEMECHANIC.COM/WATER-PUMP-RECALL-MK6-GTI-PODCAST-EPISODE-88/ ) BUT WERE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME WHEN I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE TIGUAN.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL AND VIBRATE. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TOOK THE CAR IN AND THE REPORTED THAT THE IGNITION COIL WAS BAD.
TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED (COMMON ISSUE WITH VW TSI ENGINE) AND CAUSED AN INTERFERENCE WHICH RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE DURING A REGULAR ENGINE START-UP. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AT ABOUT 115,000 MILES AND RESULTED IN AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND WAS WORKING PROPERLY EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE CAR WAS UP TO DATE WITH ALL RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE/ SERVICE TASKS. UPON SEARCHING THE WEB, IT WAS NOTED THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE TO A POINT THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL SITES THAT OFFER "KITS" TO REPAIR THE ENGINE (JUST SEARCH "TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER ISSUE + VW TSI" ON GOOGLE). ONE EXAMPLE OF SUCH SITE IS THIS ONE: HTTPS://WWW.SHOPDAP.COM/BLOG/2-0T-VW-AND-AUDI-TSI-TIMING-CHAIN-TENSIONER-PROBLEMS.HTML THIS FAILURE RESULTED IN A REPAIR JOB OF OVER USD 5000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE ON A RELATIVELY NEW CAR THAT SUPPOSEDLY HAS A TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM THAT SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE TO VW AS THEY HAVE UPDATED THE TENSSIONER DESIGN. I WISH VW WOULD HAVE ISSUED A TSB/ RECALL TO UPDATE THE TENSIONER TO THE LASTED DESIGN AND PREVENT SUCH FAILURE.
AIR BAR CLICK SPRING FAILED ON VEHICLE ON OR ABOUT 12/6/17. RECALL (15V483000- CLOCK SPRING) INCLUDED 2010-14 TIGUANS BUT WAS TOLD BY VW OF AMERICA THAT OUR 2012 VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL. VW SERVICE AGENT AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE RECALL 'EXPIRED'. VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF 'BUMPER TO BUMPER' AND POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP CHARGED $669 PLUS TAX TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE CLOCK SPRING. THE SPRING FAILED FROM ROUTINE, NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE SPRING FAILURE CAUSED A LOSS OF POWER TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG AND THE VEHICLE'S HORN THUS COMPRISING THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. CLOCK SPRING FAILURE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR VW. VW HAS BEEN RELUCTANT TO RECALL ALL VEHICLES INVOLVED OR PROVIDE CUSTOMERS WITH ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE HEFTY REPAIR BILL TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART.
I HEARD A LOUD CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AND SINCE THEN MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND MY HORN DOES NOT WORK ON MY VEHICLE. I SAW THE RECALL FOR THE CLOCK WHEEL SPRING IN 2015 AND THEY CLAIM IT HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT I HAVE SINCE SEEN FURTHER INVESTIGATION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT VW ACTUALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS STATIONARY AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN OUT OF A PARKING SPOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I STILL HEAR CLICKING NOISES IN THE STEERING WHEEL SOMETIMES WHEN I TURN.
2012 TIGUAN WAS RECALLED FOR THE AIR BAG DUE TO THE CLOCK SPRINGS BUT MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL HOWEVER OCT 2014 APRIL 2017 AND AGAIN TODAY NOV 17 I HAD TO BRING MY CAR IN DUE TO THE AIR BAG ( CLOCK SPRINGS) I HAD TO PAY IN 14 AND APRIL 17 TODAY I DID NOT SINCE IT HAPPENED WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF THE LAST REPAIR I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AND THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW . I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE PAID FOR 2014 AND APRIL 2017. ALL 3X WHERE DONE AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP
IN AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING REAR HIT, WHICH SENT THE VEHICLE INTO A DITCH APPROX. 8 FEET DEEP, WITH AN IMPACT SEVERE ENOUGH TO HOSPITALIZE THE FRONT SEAT PASENGER WITH FRACTURED STERNUM AN INTERNAL BLEEDING CAUSED BY A SEAT BELT. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED . PER THE DOTOR, INJURY COULD BE AVOIDED IF FRONT AIRBAG DEPLOYED.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRIGGERED CODE REFLECTING MISFIRES. DEALERSHIP CHECKED OUT AND IT IS A CARBON BUILDUP ON INTAKE VALVES. I AM TOLD THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH DIRECT INJECTION SYTEMS ESPECIALLY ON VOLKSWAGENS, BMWS, AUDIS. THE SUGGESTED FIX IS TO HAVE A SHOP OR DEALER REMOVE MANIFOLD AND USE A MEDIA BLAST OF WALNUT SHELLS TO REMOVE THE CARBON. THIS WILL ONLY LAST UNTIL THE BUILDUP COMES BACK. THIS SUV HAS APPROX 62,000 MILES ON IT. THE COST OF GETTING THE VALVES CLEANED RANGES ANYWHERE FROM $400 TO 1200. THIS PROBLEM IS AN INHERENT ISSUE WITH DESIGN AND THERE IS NOTHING A CONSUMEER CAN DO TO PREVENT IT. AS ONE REPAIR SHOP SAID, IT IS INEVITABLE AND ALL DIRECT INJECTION ENGINES WILL SUFFER THIS PROBLEM. I AM APPALLED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND WHEN THE DEALER SAYS IT IS A MAINTENANCE TYPE ITEM IT REALLY MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. PROPER MAINTENANCE SHOULD NEVER INCLUDE WALNUT BLASTING OF CARBON DEPOSITS ON VALVES!!! MANUFACTURERS NEED TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THEIR MISTAKES AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DESIGN FLAWS. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD WHEN PURCHASING THE CAR THAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO THE MEDIA BLASTING AT 60K, I CERTAINLY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THE PURCHASE.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, INDICATING CODE P0341. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OFF. TWO DRIVES LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON, AND WHILE DRIVING THE EPC LIGHT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY LIGHT WHEN A NASTY RATTLE BECAME AUDIBLE. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENED UPON ACCELERATION, NEAR 2K RPM. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT OVER 30 MPH SINCE THIS ISSUE STARTED, ONLY ACCELERATING VERY GINGERLY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK INTO THE MECHANIC, AT WHICH POINT THEY INFORMED ME THE CAM CHAIN TENSIONER AND GUIDES HAD FAILED OR WERE IN THE PROCESS OF FAILING. THEY INFORMED ME THAT REPAIRING THE TIMING CHAIN COMPONENTS WOULD COST $4000, BUT THAT THE ENGINE IS ALSO BURNING OIL. THEY RECOMMENDED A TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT FOR $5400. I PURCHASED THE TIGUAN USED FROM LARSON VW IN TACOMA, WA NOVEMBER 2015 (JUST UNDER 2 YEARS AGO) WITH 59000 MILES ON IT. IT CURRENTLY HAS ~89000 MILES.
TIMING CHAIN FAILED AND RESULTED IN ENGINE FAILURE AT 80,000 MILES. VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO HELP ME. I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I SEE THERE ARE MANY VW OWNERS WITH THIS VERY SAME ISSUE.
FUEL DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THEREFORE, I CANNOT REFUEL THE VEHICLE.
ON THE FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND I OPENED USED MY PANORAMIC SUNROOF AS I HAVE NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE THE SUNSHADE I HEARD A WEIRD NOISE COME FROM THE TRACK AND THE FABRIC RETRACTED BACK INTO THE OPEN POSITION. I ONCE MORE PUSHED THE CLOSE BUTTON TO CLOSE THE SUNSHADE AND WHILE MOVING FORWARD THE FABRIC RIPPED AND THE COIL RETRACTED SLIGHTLY.

IN OUR 2012 VW TIGUAN SEL, THE DRIVER SIDE SHOULDER SEAT BELT WOULD REMAIN AND/OR ENGAGE IN A LOCKED POSITION INCORRECTLY. THIS WOULD CREATE A VERY DANGEROUS AND STRESSFUL SITUATION FOR US. IT WOULD PREVENT US FROM BEING ABLE TO STRAP IN (WHICH IS ALSO A LAW IN OUR STATE). WE WOULD PULL ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT AND IT WOULD LOCK'MAYBE GETTING A FEW INCHES OF SLACK AND CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH TO STRAP YOURSELF IN. THE VEHICLE COULD EITHER BE ON OR OFF WHEN THIS OCCURS. IN ADDITION, IF YOU WERE ABLE TO FINAGLE THE SEAT BELT OUT, SLOWLY AND PATIENTLY WHILE IT CONTINUALLY LOCKS AND GAINING ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP YOURSELF IN AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, IT COULD INCORRECTLY LOCK WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING PREVENTING YOU FROM MOVING YOUR TORSO AROUND TO PROPERLY CHECK BLIND SPOTS, MIRRORS, ETC. OUR SITUATION QUICKLY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE WE COULDN'T EVEN GET ENOUGH SLACK TO STRAP OURSELVES IN AND WERE FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GET THIS FIXED AND PAYED THE DEALERSHIP OVER $600. WE WAITED SEVERAL DAYS FOR THE 'FAULTY PIN MECHANISM/ASSEMBLY' AND PART TO ARRIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY SAID IT'S NOT A COMMON PART THEY KEEP IN STOCK AS IT'S NOT SOMETHING THEY TYPICALLY HAVE TO FIX. THIS IS CORRECT, A SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY/DESIGN SHOULD NEVER FAIL! I'VE VISITED FORUMS ONLINE AND READ ABOUT OTHER 2012 VW TIGUAN OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. PLEASE RECALL THIS TO AVOID ANYONE FROM GETTING SERIOUSLY HURT.
I'VE HAD OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES FOR A COUPLE YEARS...BUT WAS ALWAYS BRUSHED OFF BY THE DEALER BEING TOLD IT'S 'WITHIN VW SPECK' UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRED (THEY ALSO NEVER DOCUMENTED THESE VISITS). THEN MIRACULOUSLY THEY FOUND AN ISSUE WHICH WAS NOW A $3000 FIX. I TOOK IT FOR A 2ND OPINION TO ANOTHER VW DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TURBO DIDN'T NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. NOW MY CAR IS COMPLETE FAILURE DUE TO THE TIMING CHAIN SKIPPING AND ALSO FIRED ALL THE PISTONS AT ONCE. NOW IT'S A $7500 REPAIR TO FIX THE TURBO AND THE ENGINE. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON; NO OIL LIGHT; NO ISSUES DRIVING IT. IT WORKED PERFECTLY UNTIL I TRIED TO START IT TO LEAVE. NEITHER ONE OF THE DEALERS WILL ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND VW OF AMERICA REFUSED TO HELP WITH THIS 'WARRANTY ISSUE'. (I HAVE MY ENTIRE SERVICE RECORD)

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND WOULD NOT BE DONE A SECOND TIME. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE RECALL DETAILS WERE NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,000.

AFTERWARDS I WAS ALERTED TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IN THE CAR (HAVING TO FILL OIL EVERY WEEK) AT NO POINT IS THERE A WARNING ABOUT THE OIL BURNING OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THEN WITHOUT WARNING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, MY TENSIONER BELT SLIPS CAUSING MASSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE, RENDERING THE CAR UNDRIVEABLE AND THE ENGINE NOW NEEDS REPLACED ON A 5 YEAR OLD CAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS LAWSUITS CURRENTLY PENDING AGAINST VOLKSWAGEN DUE TO THIS EXACT ISSUE AND YET THERE IS NO RECALL AND NO SAFETY WARNING BEING ISSUED. AIRBAG MALFUNCTION PREVENTING THE HORN FROM WORKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND INDICATOR LIGHT ON DASH IS LIT .
SEVERAL MONTHS TO A YEAR AFTER I HAD THE CLOCK SPRING REPLACED MY CAR WAS PARKED AT THE AIRPORT FOR 4 DAYS. WHEN I GOT BACK THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON AND THE HORN STOPPED WORKING. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AS WELL AS VW AMERICA. I WAS TOLD ITS NO LONGER COVERED AND IT WOULD BE OVER $600 TO REPAIR IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT AN AIRBAG RECALL WOULD BE COMING SO DON'T REPAIR IT AS THEY WILL ONLY REIMBURSE YOU UP TO 50%. SO HERE I WAIT FOR A RECALL ITS BEEN 2 YEARS......
THE REAR DOOR (TAILGATE) DOES NOT LATCH NOR LOCK. WHEN IT IS CLOSED, THE CATCH DOES NOT ENGAGE AND THERE IS NO NOISE FROM THE LOCKING MOTOR. SO THE DOOR REMAINS OPEN WHEN DRIVING OR PARKING. THIS IS THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I ALSO FOUND A LOT OF COMPLAINTS AND FAULT REPORTS FROM OTHER VOLKSWAGEN OWNERS OVER THE INTERNET. *TR
WATER PUMP MALFUNCTIONS AND OIL LEAKS LEADING TO WATER PUMP MALFUNCTIONS THAT OVER HEAT THE ENGINE AND CAUSE SIGNIFICANT ENGINE DAMAGE. THREE WATER PUMPS IN THREE YEARS AND ULTIMATELY BLOWN ENGINE.
THE CAR SHIFTS GEAR VERY EARLY AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSING A LAG IN MAINTAINING SPEED. THIS IS DONE IN THE NORMAL "D" SELECT MODE, AND DOES NOT OCCUR WHEN DRIVING IN SPORT "S" MODE.
THE BLUETOOTH IN MY 2012 VW TIGUAN HAS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. VW SAID THAT THE BLUETOOTH IS FAULTY AND THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $700 TO FIX MY BLUETOOTH.
