NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Check engine light came on, related to the thermostat and faulty water pump. My car’s make and model was part of a settlement for this issue but VW corporate will not cover costs to repair.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while driving and while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle unexpectedly vibrated with the EPC warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was idling roughly, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the fuel system had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
My vehicle keeps losing power steering, often during operation.
My steering randomly stopped working. The power steering is electronic, so I can’t fix it.
Clock spring broken when my wife turned her steering wheel leaving a parking lot. Airbags no longer work, along with anything electronic within steering wheel.
I own a 2014 VW Tiguan SEL 2.0T 4MOTION. I took my VW to the Dealer (Prestige Imports, 44 Pleasantville Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570 (914-769-51500) With 84196 miles on [XXX], 2023. The complain was “Roof is leaking water from sunroof on the floor on the passenger side and then makes its way to the real passenger” They cleaned the clogged drained -$145. Only to return in mid-February with a flooded on the same left side. With no diagnosis how to fixed - my had a car not driveable in in the rain I am forced to get a new car - and to insult to injury the dealer is only offering $3,500 as a trade in INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Clock Spring in steering wheel is broken. Driver Airbag is non-functional, as are the controls on the steering wheel. No Driver air bag is a huge safety issue! We immediately "scheduled" an appointment to have this issue repaired. At the appointment, a VW dealer (VW Castle Downers Grove IL) confirmed the issue and noted that this was the subject of a recall (15V483000) with an ongoing & perpetual duty to repair. Despite the recall, the dealer does not have the parts, nor can they provide a date when they might be available (they are "backordered"). We checked with another dealer, and this seems to be a common problem. Also, we did a thorough search online to assess the situation with other drivers/vehicles - this is a common issue! Someone (either the dealer or VW) is dragging their feet on this mandatory, potentially life-threatening issue & repair. When will the NHTSA kick VW (or the dealer) in the [XXX]? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The check Engine light on my car comes up anytime I drive the car. The car has 72350 miles driven. The dealership said it is a known timing belt issue with VW Tiguans . It is going to cost me upto $3000. They also advised me not to drive the car as the engine may stall. When I contacted VW they said they cannot help and there is no recall on this. However there has been court cases for the same issue upto the 2014 model year Tiguans and extended warranty of 100000 miles or 10 years was given. I need VW to help with either the repair or give me exended warranty. VW customer care is not very helpful.
driving down the highway at speed, power steering fails and cannot control the vehicle. shut the car down and cannot get the issue to go away. got the car home without power steering. issue was gone next day. took car out to see if issue was gone, while making a turn power steering once again fails on the car. had to limp the car home at a very slow rate of speed. there are many reports of this happening to the VW power steering. the dealer wont even look at the car when i called to see if i can bring it in to be looked at.
A few years ago the turbo went at 88000 miles, a mechanic felt there should be a recall. Now the transmission needs to be replaced at 109000 miles. The transmission was on backorder because the appears to be many cars needing a rebuilt transmission. There is a recall for othewr VW models with the same transmission. I feel that my car should be included in this recall. It is a VW 2014 Tiguan with an automatic transmission. This car wasd purchased as a certified preowned vehicle from Mohegan Lake Motors in NY in 2017. The transmission was ordered from VW in June and I am still waiting for it to arrive at the repair shop. Klaus Garage in Fishkill NY. The turbo was replaced at the dealer as was most maintenence.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of power of steering assist. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that this was a common failure with the year, make, and model. The contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, while parked, the steering wheel seized. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
I was turning into a parking spot and heard a loud “snap” coming from my wheel. The “error: airbag” light came on and all electrical on my wheel stopped working. And the horn does not work. I googled it and my year and model has a recall for the clock spring. It says my airbag will not deploy. I have no way to change the computer screen. So I can’t digitally see my speed and I can’t update my tire pressure amongst other things.
There is mold growing in my vehicle due to there being a sealant issue with my panoramic moon/sun roof, causing a water leak into the vehicle. The moon roof is fully functioning, but a VW dealer has told me that this is a known issue for my model and year, and he recommends trading it in because even if I spend the $6K+ it would take to replace it - there is no guarantee it won’t occur again. I have been inhaling the moldy air in my vehicle and this is 1000% a safety hazard!
Airbag light came on. At the same time we lost all of our steering wheel controls as well as our horn. Some vehicles are covered by a recall but supposedly this yr and model isn't covered for some reason
Timing chain “extended” during driving resulting in the car to start to shudder and shake violently during movement. Had to force the vehicle off the side of the road. Car is 66k miles, timing chain is rated at 120k+. Engine block is now totaled. Dealership will not pursue any actions and has charged 7K to fix. Car is only worth 8/9k. VW was contacted and they said there was no action they could do further. There were no warning lamps, check engine lights, or anything. Car was maintained at regular intervals.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated, and the horn and the buttons on her steering failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed her that there was a recall on that model vehicle for a similar failure. The contact went to a dealer and was informed that her vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V483000 (Air Bags) and that the vehicle was not under warranty. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred her to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 143,550.
EMISSION TEST FAILED 9/30/2022. i HAVE TRIED TO GET THROUGH TO VOLKSWAGEN AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY SUCCESS. Air bag lights, Engine Light, Tire Pressure Lights, Horn does not work. Indiana State Emissions Vehicle Inspection report attached.
Turned the steering wheel, heard a popping noise and then an airbag error appeared. The horn no longer works either. Assumed to be the known clock spring issue for this year/make/model.
In 2020 we had the clock spring "repaired" by the dealership under a recall. As of 9/6/2022 it is malfunctioning again. My daughter drives this car as a freshman in college 5 hours away with no horn or airbag!
This is the second time my Volkswagen Tiguan's spring clock has broken. As a result I have lost access to my airbags and horn. I also can't contact my driver electrical from the steering wheel. I am being told there is no way of knowing when the dealership may be able to get the part. I will be driving in an extremely unsafe care with my one-year old son. This is terrifying.
My daughter has a 2014 VW Tiguan which had the Check Engine light come on at the end of July 2022. We took vehicle to the local VW Dealer who informed us that they found Code p0328 knock sensor 1 circuit high. Oil level said to be fine. Timing angle difference of camshafts said to be at a value of -5.76 degrees. Advised replacement of timing chain. Vehicle is 8 years old with 106,000 miles, but timing chain replacement is merely estimated at a least 10years and 125,000. The VW/Audi 2.0 engines have a known and recalled problem with timing chains and tensioners that I believe involved (2007-2013) and extended warranty to 100K miles. Here we are just outside the box and get no help and no assistance and a estimated $2200 repair bill. Have to wonder if these 2014 Tiguans also have an issue but simply weren't extended into the recall or the recall wasn't comprehensive enough? I would love to have an analysis as to when our vehicle was assembled to see if its parts were of the same specification to those recalled. Would ultimately like some assistance in the cost of the repair. Have reached out to VW Customer Care and basically got no help.
Airbag and horn doesn't work the clock spring is out there is a recall on other 2014 Volkswagen Tiguans but not this one. it's unsafe to drive with these conditions. The airbag error went off when I started the car.
Unable to complete vehicle inspection . Horn does not work, some electronics malfunction, airbags light is on. Cannot use dashboard related functions i.e. adjust tire pressure settings, gas tank door lock malfunctions, hands free communication malfunction. This is the 2nd time in a year that the clock spring failed. The manufacturer is not being able to provide the parts due to conflict area manufacturing, perhaps its time to relocate manufacturing. It's been 3 1/2 month and still no ETA on parts. Perhaps it's a poorly designed part. Maybe back to the drawing board. I understand the malfunction can set off airbag without a collision.
Clock spring failed in the steering wheel after having the part replaced 2 years ago under a VW warranty. Now that the clock spring failed a second I am told that there is no ETA to get the vehicle fixed and there are over 10k people waiting for the part needed to fix the vehicle. The wait is likely over 9 months. With a failed clock spring the airbags do not work. The horn also doesn't work. 2 key safety features are no longer working in my vehicle because of a manufactures defect that is highly known. VW taking no responsibility and will not expedite parts replacement or offer an alternate vehicle. Because of VW a vehicle that would fail a safety inspection in most states will be on the road. They are not offering a loaner vehicle and are instead allowing cars to be on the road without horns and airbags. This should be a recall and VW should have to pay for damaged vehicles that are unsafe to drive.
When turning the car, I heard a sound in the steering wheel and then lost functioning of the horn and all other steering wheel controls and buttons; The air bag light also came on - indicating the driver's side airbag is not functioning. Based on research believe it is identical problem others that have reported with defective steering wheel clock spring. Cannot find evidence that this vehicle was subject to or repaired under the previous recall on this issue. 1) it is available for inspection 2) safety risk because driver side airbag is now malfunctioning 3) not inspected by dealer or service center yet 4) not inspected by any others 5) no, no other warning lamps, message or symptoms appeared prior to the failure - airbag malfunction light went on at the same time the car lost other electrical functioning in the steering wheel. Unable to view any other messages because button to toggle through info system on dash is not working as well.
One day I noticed that my horn wasn't working. Then a few days later I noticed that I couldn't connect to my phone from the steering wheel. The the airbag light came on. Garage said it is malfunctioning of electrical parts in the steering wheel column.
The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that upon servicing his vehicle at an independent mechanic, he was informed that both rear springs had developed severe corrosion that needed replacement. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that rain and snow had collected inside the springs causing the corrosion. The contact had the driver’s side lower control arm and both rear springs replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure online but offered no assistance. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
The clock spring in my vehicle went out. There is a backorder of upwards of 1 yr for part to replace. VW stated its a known issue. Until the clock spring gets fixed, I have no drivers side airbag, no horn, all lights on dash are on. With them all on, I am not alerted to any issues that may be occurring with any system in my vehicle.
Took car to dealer for Air bag Light On, No controls in steering wheel worked. Including Radio control, Tire pressure reset, Inspection reset and oil change reset. Faulty Clock Spring Diagnosed. Clock spring was not replaced at date of invoice ,and still waiting on part as of 03/11/2022. VW Number One Back Ordered Part. With no Air Bag in Steering wheel is a safety concern.
Took car to shop with a noise in the steering column and the SRS light is on. Automotive shop (attachment) diagnosed vehicle needs a new clock spring for the SRS system but the part is on back order with no release date as of now. This part has been unfindable for over five months, leaving the vehicle unable to be safely driven or sold/traded-in as the VW dealerships will not pay what vehicle is worth because of VW's own part issue. This leaves the consumer in a really bad position. There is no functioning airbag and VW can't come up with the part. This is a persistent issue, including a previous NHTSA investigation, see these links: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jensen/2017/11/17/feds-investigate-volkswagens-reluctant-recall/?sh=53b9719e3b77 http://www.vwproblems.com/clock-spring-failure/ We had this fixed initially under the first recall, but the issues persists for who knows how many car owners.
Took to dealer 11/16/2021 For Service Engine Light. Found Faulty Turbo. The exhaust Manifold and Turbo come as one part. A valve inside seizes open or closed and cause a code to set. Open code is low boost. If it is seized Closed it is a over boost Code. This effects emissions! This car low mileage and turbo failed at 11/16/2021 at 40,000 Miles. This is common issue in 2.0 TSI engine.
My clock spring was diagnosed to be faulty and covered under the manufacturers extended warranty. I was told that the part was on back order and could take a few weeks to get in. That was on November 9, 2021. I have now driven for over 7 months in a car that does have a functioning air bag and have spent hours on the phone with Volkswagen USA and in different dealerships trying to find a remedy. My VIN number currently says there are no open recalls but fits perfectly under NHTSA Recall #15V483000. According to the NHTSA when it comes to recalled vehicles, "Manufacturers are required to fix the problem the problem by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund, or in rare cases repurchasing the vehicle" (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls). The part is not available for this car so dealerships are unable to repair this issue. According to the NHTSA, this issue needs to be resolved in on e of the ways listed above and so far my safety has been neglected by not only the local dealerships but also by Volkswagen USA. I now have 2 months until my inspection expires and I will not be able to legally drive a car due to the negligence of the manufacturer.
i Was Driving my Vehicle and suddenly the Air Bag and ABS lights went on my dashboard
We were driving on a highway and all of a sudden felt/heard a loud bang causing the car to swerve. We slowed down and there was a continuous loud rattling sound. We brought the car to the dealership and they told us the coil springs were fractured. Had to pay for the replacement- $2,825.73. Then we learned that the later models were recalled, but not this one. Then I heard that there was a recall from 2019 onwards, but nothing for our model year. We asked them to talk to Volkswagen and they said it was not worth it as they would not do anything about it. Something is not right.
We purchased the car pre-owned and after having the car for only a year the driver’s side airbag failed and horns need to be replaced. There have been so many repairs in this car. We have invested more than $5,000 in repairs in only a year. We looked up other recalls on this car and have been seeing the same information about the airbags failing.
POWER TO THE AIRBAG HAS FAILED, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO OPERATE. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED. SEE VW DEALERS STATEMENT OF FACT WITH REMARKS.
A CLICKING SOUNDS STARTED COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE TURNING, AT ONE POINT THE AIR BAG LIGHT TURNED ON, AND FROM THAT POINT FORWARD, THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL NO LONGER WORK, INCLUDING THE HORN. THE CLICKING SOUNDS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL IS STILL PRESENT WHILE TURNING. I CALLED A PLACE THAT SPECIALIZES IN VW AND THEY SUGGESTED I CALL VW DEALER INSTEAD BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HIGHLY LIKELY A RECALL. I CALLED VW AND THEY STATED IT WAS NOT A RECALL BUT PART OF AN "EXTENDED WARRANTY", WHICH MY CAR DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR DUE TO THE MILES ON THE CAR. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH VW, AND THEY ARE ASKING FOR $160 TO SIMPLY DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT IS CLEAR TO THEM WHAT THE ISSUE IS, AND NOT NEW TO THEM. IT IS NOT DUE TO THE AGE OR MILEAGE ON THE CAR, BUT A SAFETY MISS FROM THEIR END.
Vehicle VW Tiguan 2014 VIN:[XXX] Vehicle has been presenting several issues. Carbon Build up causing vehicle to stall and tremble turning off some times. Safety concern as it could cause an accident. Bad heater core as it gets restricted and reheats the vehicle possible outcome a fire, Safety concern due to live threatening condition. Misdiagnosed several times to change spark plugs, might be a computer misdiagnose, safety concern due to possible accident and live threatening condition Leak of oil, bad seals and hoses, vehicle smell like burn oil could catch fire safety concern to live. The 2014 VW Tiguan have a campaign number 18V329000 with NHTSA, yet my VIN number does not shows in the recall. Also many models from VW carry all this different issues and have been recall. Please advice on the proper procedure for me to follow to add my VIN to the recalls as this vehicle does not meet the warranties of merchantability. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Thank you. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
WHILE TURNING MY 2014 TIGUAN I NOTICED A CLICKING NOISE. ABOUT A DAY LATER MY AIRBAG ELECTRICAL ALERT APPEARED ON THE DASH AND ALL MY ELECTRICAL ON MY STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS MY HORN. I CHECKED ALL MY FUSES AND THEN SAW THAT IT MIGHT BE THE CLOCK SPRING DUE TO COMPLAINTS EXACTLY LIKE MINE. I SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL BUT MY CARS VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MANY OTHER 2014 TIGUAN VOLKSWAGEN ARE HAVING TO COVER THESE COST THEMSELVES DUE TO NOT BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. VOLKSWAGEN NEEDS TO HAVE ITS RECALL EXPANDED BECAUSE THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO MAKE CONSUMERS PAY OUT OF POCKET OVER A MANUFACTURED MALFUNCTION. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR NOW KNOWING MY AIRBAGS OR HORN WILL NOT WORK. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS SITUATION FURTHER AND NOT ALLOW VOLKSWAGEN TO GET AWAY WITH THIS.
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ACCIDENTALLY ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH IN TRAFFIC, BRINGING THE CAR TO A FULL STOP. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON IS LOCATED NEXT THE TO CUP HOLDER IN THE CENTER CONSOLE BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS. THE DRIVER PUT A COFFEE MUG WITH AN OPEN HANDLE IN THE CUP HOLDER WHILE DRIVING. THE MUG HANDLE PRESSED ON THE BUTTON WHEN IT WAS PLACED IN THE CUP HOLDER (WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 MPH) AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP IN THE CENTER LANE OF INTERSTATE 91. THE ONLY REASON WE SURVIVED IS THAT THE PERSON BEHIND US WAS DRIVING A VOLVO AND WAS FOLLOWING AT SAFE DISTANCE. IF A TRACTOR TRAILER HAD BEEN BEHIND US WE WOULD BE DEAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF SEVERAL ITEMS OF BELONGINGS ON THE GROUND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO LOCK THE VEHICLE USING THE KEYFOB HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR DOOR REMAINED UNLOCKED. THE CONTACT USED THE INTERNAL DOOR LOCK FUNCTION TO LOCK THE DOORS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES TO THE DOOR BEING AJAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DICK HANNAH VOLKSWAGEN OF PORTLAND LOCATED AT (12345 E BURNSIDE ST, PORTLAND, OR 97233) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TURBO I WAS DRIVING AND CAR JUST SHUT OFF I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT WAS THE TURBO NOT EVEN 2 YEARS GO BY AND I STARTED TO DRIVE AND CAR WAS JERKY AND IDLING FUNNY TOOK IT TO ADVANCED AUTO FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TURBO. IM TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER TOMORRW WITH 3 MORE YEARS OF PAYMENTS LEFT
ON DECEMBER 7TH, 2018 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD AN EXPLOSION LOAD ENOUGH TO MAKE MY EARS RING. I LOOKED UP AND DISCOVERED THAT THE SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED AND FINE PARTICLES OF GLASS WERE RAINING DOWN ON ME THROUGH THE SUNROOF SUNSHADE. NOTHING HIT THE SUNROOF TO CAUSE THIS AS THERE WAS NO OTHER TRAFFIC, OVERPASSES OR CONSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. THE ATTACHED PHOTOS SHOW THAT THE SUNROOF EXPLODED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING STRAIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 65 MPH. WE ARE PUTTING THE REPAIR THROUGH OUR INSURANCE WITH A $500 DEDUCTABLE AND AS YET WE DO NOT KNOW THE FINAL COST OF REPAIR AS IT IS STILL BEING WORKED ON. DAMAGE BEING REPAIRED IS THE SUNROOF GLASS, SUNSHADE AND THE ROOF HAD TO BE REPAINTED BECAUSE IT WAS SCRATCHED BY BROKEN GLASS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE MOON ROOF SUDDENLY EXPLODED AND GLASS FELL INTO THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EMICH VOLKSWAGEN (1260 S. COLORADO BLVD, DENVER, CO) AND THE MOON ROOF WAS REPLACED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
MY VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE TENSION ON THE TIMING CHAIN IS OUTSIDE SAFE PARAMETERS AND CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO FAIL. MY TIGUAN IS ONLY A 2014 AND ONLY HAS ABOUT 80,000 MILES. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT TIMING CHAINS ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT'S ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A FACTORY DEFECT.
STATIONARY, PARKED. STARTED ENGINE AND HEAR CLICKING NOISE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. ERROR MESSAGE AND LIGHT EMERGED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING AIRBAG ERROR. NON-FUNCTIONAL ELECTRONIC CONTROLS AND HORN ON THE STEERING WHEEL. NO AIRBAG FUNCTION AND HORN IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN.
I WAS TAKING MY CAR OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT WHEN I HEARD MY STEERING WHEEL CLICKING. SUDDENLY, THE AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD, MY STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS AND MY HORN STOPPED WORKING. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND I SAW OTHER CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED VW AND THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T ON THE RECALL LIST AND NOT ON THE WARRANTY SO I WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR IT ON MY OWN.
AFTER MAKING A TURN OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY I HEARD A LOOSE RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHENEVER I WOULD TURN THE WHEEL. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS NOW ON. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE STEERING WHEEL. ALL THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WERE NOT FUNCTIONING INCLUDING THE HORN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH WE DISCOVERED THAT MANY 2014 TIGUANS WERE RECALLED FOR A DEFECTIVE CLOCKSPRING CAUSING THE PROBLEMS I AM DEALING WITH. THE CLOCKSPRING IN MY STEERING WHEEL IS BROKEN DISCONNECTING POWER FROM THE AIR BAG, HORN, AND STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WILL NOT BE COVERED BY BY THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME TYPE AND YEAR MODEL AS OTHER VEHICLES COVERED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED.
CLOCK SPRING BROKEN, VIN NOT COVERED IN RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE DEALER (VOLKSWAGEN BILLINGS, 4040 KING AVE W, BILLINGS, MT 59108, (406) 655-7500) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DETERMINED THAT THE CLOCKSPRING WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
