Automatic braking failure: Another vehicle slammed into my vehicle as I was moving at a slow pace. That other vehicle pushed the front of my vehicle into a dumpster in a parking lot. The automatic braking should have engaged and stopped the car so it wouldn't have crashed into the dumpster. It is unlikely the vehicle is available for inspection as it was towed to a salvage yard. My safety and that of others was put at risk. The problem could not be reproduced - the vehicle was severely damaged and undrivable. The manufacturer (Volvo) refused to inspect it. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms. Unsure if this is relevant, but the vehicle recently (less than 1 week ago) received an over-the-air (OTA) update to software version 5.0.5.
All of the audio warnings in the car suddenly stop working without any associated warning. On certain occasions (once every couple of months, unpredictably) the car's audio completely stops working. This includes any of the safety warnings such as the parking collision or rear cross traffic warnings. The audio starts working again after resetting the infotainment system by holding down the "Home" button for 30 seconds. The service department at the dealership appeared to be very familiar with this issue but did not have any proposed fixes.
I was backing up out of my driveway and the camera was not available, nor did the sensor work while I was backing up. I hit a parked car as a result of this, resulting in damage to the back of my car. This has happened before, but never resulted in an accident until this time.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
