SRS- AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT OIL LIGHT SOMETIMES APPEAR
WHILE DRIVING ANY DISTANCE OVER 60 MINUTES THE CAR WARNING COMES ON SAYING SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKES, STOP SAFELY. AIRBAG CHECK LIGHT COMES ON. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS ALL THE ELECTRONICS SHUTS DOWN; ALL DASH, STEREO, LIGHTS, WIPERS, WINDOWS AND LACK OF POWER TO ENGINE BUT CAR STAYS RUNNING. THIS WAS ALMOST A DEADLY CRASH WHILE DRIVING IN POURING RAIN AND THERE WERE CARS EVERYWHERE. NO WAY TO SIGNAL OR FLASHERS, I HONESTLY THOUGHT ME AND MY FAMILY WERE GONNA GET IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE READ OTHER STORIES ONLINE SO MY QUESTION IS, WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS? HOW DO I FIX IT BEFORE SOME GETS HURT OR EVEN WORSE KILLED! *TR
"TAKATA RECALL" THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON. IT IS ON ALL THE TIME. I HAVE PAPER FROM THE VOLVO DEALER WAS CHECKED TO DIAGNOSTIC THE AIR BAG. I PAYED FOR IT.
TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH, HIT A LARGE DEER, NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE DEER SMASHED IN THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE. *TR
MY HUSBAND HAD A 55MPH CRASH IN MY 2004 VOLVO XC90 ON THE FREEWAY. HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER DRIVER AT TOP SPEED, WAS SPUN AROUND SEVERAL TIMES ON THE FREEWAY AND ENDED UP FACING TRAFFIC. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID NOT. THE INSPECTOR FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY SAID THERE WAS NOT REASON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AT THAT SPEED, OTHER THAN A DEFECT, AS FAR AS HE WAS CONCERNED. I CONTACTED VOLVO AND WAS BASICALLY GIVEN THE RUN AROUND ABOUT HOW THE AIRBAG SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED AND THAT THIS WAS PERFECTLY OKAY. I WOULD LIKE AN INVESTIGATION ESPECIALLY SINCE MY CEM SYSTEM WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. I HAD AIRBAG WARNING, BRAKE FAILURE, ETC., AND THE DEALER TOLD ME A YEAR AGO THE CEM SYSTEM WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AT $1300, WHICH I WAS NOT WILLING TO PAY. *TR
AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES WHILE THE VEHICLE, A 2004 VOLVO XC 90 T6 WAS IN OPERATION AT 55 MPH THE POWER TO THE DASH AND ALL ACCESSORIES WENT DEAD. THE HORN, THE BLINKERS, THE SPEEDOMETER (RADIO, POWER WINDOWS ETC.) ALL FAILED TO WORK EVEN AS THE CAR WAS IN OPERATION AND WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY. LATER UPON RESTART THERE WAS AN ERROR CODE IN THE DASH, IN THE ICM I BELIEVE THEY CALL IT (INFOTAINMENT CONTROL MODULE), SAYING URGENT SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT SYSTEM- AKA SIDE AIRBAGS) SERVICE URGENT ?OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT. THE DEALER USED THEIR PROPRIETARY READER TO DECIPHER THE ERROR CODES AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE DIM, OR DRIVER INFORMATION MODULE FOR THE SRS SYSTEM HAD GONE BAD, IT HAD A SHORT. THEY SAID IF WE DID NOT REPLACE IT THEY SAID THAT THE SHORT COULD OVERRIDE COMMUNICATION OF THE OTHER MODULES AND ELECTRONICS ON THAT SAME CIRCUIT AND WE MIGHT LOSE OTHER CONTROLS INCLUDING POSSIBLY AN UNEXPECTED ENGINE SHUTDOWN OR OTHER OPERATIONAL ABILITIES. $ 1532.00 LATER, AND LESS THAN TWO DAYS AFTER WE HAD THE SUV REPAIRED, WE HAD A REPEAT OF THE COMPLETE DASH POWER FAILURE. THIS TIME WE WERE TOO WORRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND INSTEAD DROVE DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER WITHOUT A SPEEDOMETER, HORN, GAS GAUGE OR TURN SIGNALS. WE CHECKED AND THE WIPERS REMAINED OPERATIONAL. UPON RESTART AT THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS- SRS SERVICE URGENT. BUT THIS TIME THE DEALER READS THE DIAGNOSTIC ERROR CODES AND TELLS US THAT IT IS LIKELY A CEM, OR CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE- (ABOUT $1200.00 + TAX) BUT THEY ADD IT MIGHT BE THE DEM OR DIFFERENTIAL ELECTRONIC MODULE. IT SEEMS LUDICROUS THAT NECESSARY ELECTRONIC CONTROLS WOULD NOT HAVE PROTECTION FROM CROSS FAILURES, AND THAT A BAD DIM OR CEM WOULD PLACE THE OPERATORS AND PASSENGERS AT RISK BY KNOCKING OUT OTHER CONTROLS. OF COURSE I AM WONDERING HOW TO DETERMINE IF THE DEALER IS RIGHT THIS TIME AND EVEN MORE CONCERNED ABOUT EXPERIENCING ANOTHER BLACKOUT. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2004 VOLVO XV 90 IN AUGUST 2006. LAST MONTH, JULY OF 2009, MY SEVEN YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER REACHED FOR HER SEAT BELT IN THIRD ROW OF THE VEHICLE AND ANNOUNCED IT WAS BROKEN. NOTHING UNUSUAL HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS. OUR MECHANIC, HABEGGAR AUTO IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, INFORMED US THIS SEAT BELT WAS A RECALLED ITEM AND ADVISED I CONTACT VOLVO IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME THE INFORMATION HE GOT FROM ALLDATE ONLINE INDICATED THAT SEAT BELT WAS ALREADY FIXED BUT FAILED AGAIN. WHEN I CALLED VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE AT 1-800-458-1552 I WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO GO TO A CERTIFIED VOLVO DEALER. I THEN TOOK IT TO JENKINS VOLVO IN MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. THEY VERIFIED THE FACT THAT IT WAS A RECALLED ITEM. BUT WHEN THEY CONTACTED VOLVO THEY WERE TOLD VOLVO WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR ($171) OR THE INSPECTION OF THE OTHER SEAT BELTS THAT WERE ALSO RECALLED. I HAVE EMAILED VOLVO CUSTOMER CARE ASKING THEM TO PLEASE RECONSIDER. THIS IS A TERRIBLE SITUATION. CHILDREN ARE AT RISK BECAUSE AN ADULT WOULD RARELY SIT IN THE THIRD ROW. WE PURCHASED A VOLVO FOR ITS SAFETY FEATURES AND THEY WON'T EVEN PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKE? ALTHOUGH THE DOLLAR AMOUNT TO FIX THE ONE SEAT BELT ISN'T HUGE, I DON'T TRUST THE OTHER SEAT BELTS. THE RECALL WAS ON THE SEAT BELTS IN SECOND AND THIRD ROW. I WANT THEM INSPECTED. WE HAVE A SEVEN YEAR-OLD AND FOUR YEAR-OLD AND OFTEN TRANSPORT THEIR FRIENDS. I WILL NOT PUT THEM AT RISK. *TR
MARCH 25, 2005 HAD WRECK, HIT REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR; AIR BAGS ON DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR DID NOT DEPLOY. VOLVO WILL NOT COOPERATE WITH CAR OWNER TO FIX PROBLEM WITH AIR BAGS. THEY SAID AIR BAGS DID DEPLOY. OWNER WOULD LIKE FURTHER RESEARCH ON SIDE CURTIN AIR BAGS. *AK
IN GENERAL IT SEEMS VERY EASY TO ACCIDENTALLY RELEASE THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINING A CRS WHEN AN ADULD SITTING NEXT TO THE CRS TRIES TO RELEASE THEIR OWN BUCKLE. I HAVE NOTED THIS IN SEVERAL VEHICLES AND OTHER ADULTS HAVE REMARKED ON IT AS WELL.*AK
