2004 ACURA TL AT HAS SOFT AND SPONGY BRAKES. BRAKING SEEMS USELESS UNDER HARD-BRAKING CONDITIONS. IT ALL STARTED WHEN I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING ROAD DEBRIS, ABS WENT INTO ACTION AND THE CAR STOPPED IN A DIME, HOWEVER, A FEW DAYS AFTER THE EVENT, I NOTICED THE BRAKES GETTING SPONGY AND SOFT. I WENT TO GET MY BRAKE PADS AND ROTOR CHANGED ALONG WITH A BRAKE FLUID CHANGE. IT WORKED FINE FOR A WEEK BUT THEN IT WENT BACK TO SOFT AND SPONGY. I HAD A SITUATION WHERE I HAD TO BRAKE HARD FOR A BEAUTIFUL L.A COMMUTER WHO CUT ME OFF AND THERE WAS ALMOST TO PRESSURE WHATSOEVER ON THE BRAKES, NO ABS, NO TIRE SCREECHING, IT JUST GLIDED TO A STOP. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND OUT IT WAS THE VSA MODULATOR, WHICH WAS INJECTING AIR INTO THE BRAKE LINES EVER SO OFTEN. APPARENTLY IT HAPPENED WHEN THE ABS KICKED IN, THEY SAID IT WOULD HAVE FAULTED THE VSA SYSTEM. THE PART WAS REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THAT'S BECAUSE I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED ONE FROM ACURA. I AFRAID THERE ARE OTHER TLS WITH THE SAME ISSUES HAVING TO PAY CLOSE TO 2000 DOLLARS FOR PARTS THAT ARE SO CRITICAL AND YET DEFECTIVE. *TR
1. RECALL CAMPAIGN ID# 08V092000 - 2004-2005 ACURA TL (WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR); MANUFACTURER REPORT DATE: FEBRUARY 25, 2008 2. AS PER ACURA, A WIPER MOTOR KIT WAS INSTALLED JUNE 27, 2008 ON MY 2004 ACURA TL. 3. ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2009 MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECAME INOPERABLE. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND ACURA CLIENT SERVICES IMMEDIATELY. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE ACURA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THE "RECALL" WAS COMPLETE. ALTHOUGH, THE WIPER MOTOR KIT WAS INSTALLED (JUNE 27, 2008) AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE BY THE DEALERSHIP, THE WIPER MOTOR KIT DID NOT PREVENT MY WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FROM THE CORROSION AS MENTIONED IN THE DEFECT NOTICE, OWNER NOTIFICATION LETTER (PART 577), RECALL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND RECALL SUMMARY. THE DEALERSHIP RULED THE REPAIR ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2009 DUE TO "WIPER MOTOR ELECTRICAL FAULT". *TR
2004 ACURA TL - 56,000 MILES. COMPLETELY CRACKED DASHBOARD AROUND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. I AM WORRIED ABOUT MY PASSENGER'S SAFETY AS THE CRACKS LOOK AS IF THEY COULD INTERFERE WITH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
DASHBOARD ON MY 2004 ACURA TL IS CRACKING AROUND THE AIRBAGS, FEEL VERY UNSAFE ABOUT IT BEING DEPLOYED. ACURA HAS MENTIONED ON THE PHONE IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. HOWEVER AFTER READING VARIOUS OTHER OWNERS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE THIS IS NOT A ONE THING, THIS IS A DEFECTED AUTOMOBILE AND I WILL NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN OR MY WIFE OR ANYONE THAT RIDES WITH ME IN THAT CAR SIT IN THE FRONT SEAT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A DOCTORS VISIT, MY 2004 ACURA 3.2TL WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, RPM'S WOULD JUST JUMP UP AND DOWN LIKE IT WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED FINE FOR ANOTHER TWO MILES BEFORE ACTING UP AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO HARPER ACURA OF KNOXVILLE AND THEY SUGGESTED I GET A POWER FLUSH OF THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT WOULD MOST LIKELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM, SO I AGREED. LATER THAT DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR, (RICHARD, SERVICE MANAGER) SAID THEY FLUSHED THE SYSTEM, ADDED SOME TYPE OF GEL ADDITIVE TO LOCK IN WHATEVER WAS LOSE INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE MORE I DROVE IT THE BETTER IT WILL BE. WELL I TOOK IT HOME, DROVE IT AROUND AND IT KEPT ACTING UP, I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AND KEPT DRIVING PER RICHARDS SUGGESTION. CAR STILL SLIPS OUT OF SECOND GEAR GOING UP HILLS OR AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. I'M HAVING TO SHUT THE CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND THEN RE-START AND DRIVE OFF, BUT I'M AFRAID IF I KEEP DRIVING LIKE THIS, TRANSMISSION WILL COMPLETELY FAIL. ACCORDING TO NHTSA THERE IS A RECALL ON THE POWER TRANSMISSION FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL CAR HOWEVER ACCORDING TO ACURA, IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VIN NUMBER EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 2004. ACURA CORPORATE OFFICE WONT EXPLAIN WHY MY TRANSMISSION IS NOT RECALLED,HOWEVER OTHERS ARE AND THEIR FROM THE SAME YEAR, MODEL AND MANUFACTURING PLANT. NOW I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TAKE MY TWO YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL EVERY MORNING AND RISK HER SAFETY AS WELL AS MINE IN A CAR WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSION THAT ACURA DOESN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR. MY CAR ONLY HAS 83,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
2004 ACURA TL ENGINE CUT OFF. CONSUMER ALSO STATES THAT THERE WAS A THROTTLE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTION. SEEMS THAT THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *KB A DIAGNOSTIC TEST REVEALED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FILLED WITH CARBON WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION.
2004 ACURA TL DASHBOARD IS SEVERELY CRACKED IN SEVERAL PLACES. *TR
2004 ACURA TL DASH BEGAN CRACKING OVER PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AT 100K MILES, NOW AT 140K DASH IS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE PLACES - SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AND FAULTY EQUIPMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA TL. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LONG CRACK ON THE DASHBOARD WHERE THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WAS LOCATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
I WAS SATISFIED WITH THIS CAR UNTIL RECENTLY. PRESENTLY HAVING A PROBLEM WITH FRONT END VIBRATION. CHANGED AND BALANCED TIRES, PLUS ALIGNMENT. PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. RETURNED CAR TO DEALER FOR RECHECK AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIBRATION IS MY TRANSMISSION GOING BAD. APPROX. 66000 MILES ON THE CAR. IF THIS IS THE CASE SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
DASH BOARD DRIVER TO PASSENGER SIDE MANY LARGE LONG CRACKS. ACURA TL OWNERS GET NO RESPONSE FROM ACURA MOTOR COMPANY ON THIS DEFECT. *TR
DASHBOARD IS CRACKING SIGNIFICANTLY AROUND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG AND ALSO IN FRONT OF DRIVERS SEAT. *TR
DASH STARTED TO CRACK AROUND THE AIRBAG HOUSING. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED IT WAS DUE TO THE SUN AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS THAT IT WOULD EFFECT THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG, ACURA SERVICE STATED IT WOULD NOT EFFECT THE AIRBAG. THE DASH IS NOW CRACKED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AIRBAG HOUSING AND CONTINUES ALL THE WAY BACK TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. *JB
MY 2004 ACURA HAS A DASHBOARD THAT HAS CRACKED AROUND THE AIRBAG. I HAVE USED A SUN COVER AND PARKED IN SHADED SPOTS, NEVER LEAVING THE DASH IN THE SUN. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE CRACKING BECAUSE IT IS INVOLVING THE AIRBAG AND I AM WORRIED THE AIRBAG WILL NOT PROPERLY DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. OR THAT THE AIRBAG MAY DEPLOY UNNECCESARILY AND DANGEROUSLY WHILE I AM DRIVING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE BEFORE THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNABLE TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 73,000.
2004 ACURA 3.2TL- TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA TL WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN MAY 2007. WHILE TRAVELING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH IN UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, SHE COULD HEAR METAL HITTING THE CONCRETE. SHE NOTICED THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE WAS SLANTED OUTWARD. HER INSURANCE COMPANY FOUND THE FRONT TIRE ROD FAILED AND CAUSED THE TIRE TO BEND OUTWARD. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 70,768.
THIS INVOLVES MY 2004 ACURA TL, WHICH I HAVE OWNED SINCE OCTOBER 2007. IN THE TWO AND A HALF YEARS SINCE THE PURCHASE, SIGNIFICANT CRACKS HAVE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD OF THIS CAR. THERE ARE SEVERAL CRACKS ON THE DASH IN FRONT OF THE DRIVING PANEL. THERE ARE ALSO TWO MAJOR CRACKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, EACH ONE RUNNING FROM THE WINDSHIELD ALL THE WAY TO THE GLOVE BOX. WHAT MAKES THIS WORRISOME IS THAT EACH CRACK RUNS ALONG THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG, WHICH IS WEAKENING THE INTEGRITY OF THAT AIRBAG. I AM CONCERNED THAT THESE CRACKS COULD CAUSE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG TO DEPLOY UNEXPECTEDLY, INJURING ANY PASSENGER IN THAT SEAT AND POSSIBLY EVEN CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. IT COULD ALSO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IMPROPERLY DURING AN ACCIDENT, AND EITHER FAIL TO PREVENT INJURY OR MAKE THE PASSENGER'S INJURIES WORSE. THIS DEFECT IS OCCURRING IN THE 2004 AND 2005 MODELS, BUT ACURA IS TREATING IT AS A COSMETIC ISSUE RATHER THAN A SAFETY ONE, AND REFUSING TO COVER THE EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE DASH, WHICH COSTS ALMOST $2000 INCLUDING LABOR AND PARTS. OTHER 2004/2005 TL OWNERS WHO HAD THE DASH REPLACED WERE TOLD THAT THE NEW DASH WAS MADE WITH DIFFERENT MATERIALS AND WOULD NOT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A DE FACTO ADMISSION THAT THESE DASHBOARDS WERE MADE WITH INADEQUATE MATERIALS. THIS IS INDEED A SAFETY ISSUE, AS IT INVOLVES THE AIRBAG. THESE CRACKS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR, AND ACURA NEEDS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL RATHER THAN TREAT IT LIKE A COSMETIC ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA TL. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINTS SNAPPED IN HALF. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE OVER NEAR THE GUARD RAILS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPAIRED THE FRONT BUMPER AND REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. UPDATED 06/24/09. *LJ UPDATED 06/26/09.*JB
ENGINE EMISSIONS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. DEFECTIVE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND LEAKING HEAD GASKETS DIAGNOSED,REQUIRING ALMOST $3000 IN REPAIRS. *TR
THERE IS NO INCIDENT TO MY KNOWLEDGE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO PREVENT AN INCIDENT FROM HAPPENING BEFORE IT DOES. 2004-2005 ACURA TL DASH WILL CRACK WHERE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS TO DEPLOY. THESE CRACKS COULD AFFECT THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG IN A CRASH AND CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER OF THE CAR. I WOULD NOT KNOW THE EXACT NUMBER OF AFFECTED PEOPLE BUT THERE IS A GROUP ON FACEBOOK WITH OVER 30 CASES REPORTED, NOT TO MENTION THE AMOUNT OF CASES NOT REPORTED YET. *TR
2004 TL CRACKING IN DASH GETTING WORSE EVERYDAY, HAPPENED STARTING 2009 WITH A SMALL CRACK. NOW CRACKS ARE ALL OVER DASH. POSSIBLE AIRBAG FAILURE FROM THE LOOKS OF THE CRACKS. NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. VERY UNSAFE. *TR
I HAVE 7 CRACKS IN THE DASH OF MY 2004 ACURA TL. IT STARTED WITH 2 LONG CRACKS, ONE OVER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND ONE IN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG COVER. OVER THE PAST 13 MONTHS 5 MORE CRACKS HAVE APPEARED IN THE DASH BETWEEN THE FIRST 2 ORIGINAL CRACKS. THESE CRACKS ARE UNSIGHTLY AND MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG COVER IS INVOLVED. *TR
A FEW MONTHS AGO MY 2004 ACURA TL DASH STARTED CRACKING AROUND MY AIRBAG ON MY DASH. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD AND IS A DEFECT OF ACURA. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER 2004 ACURA TL'S THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I AM WONDERING WHAT IS GOING TO BE DONE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
2004 ACURA TL - DASH HAS A 2' CRASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RUNNING TOP TO BOTTOM AND INTO SRS AIRBAG AREA. CRACK STARTED AT 90, 000 MILES. DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM BUT SINCE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY WANTS $580.00 TO FIX. THIS CRACK MAY SERIOUSLY AFFECT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT ON PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
MULTIPLE CRACKS ARE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, AND A DEEP GASH APPEARS ON THE COWLING OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. IT'S A HIGH-END CAR, AND YOU PAY BIG MONEY FOR IT, AND YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BIG CRACKS IN YOUR DASHBOARD, DON'T KNOW, YOU KNOW WITH A CRACK LIKE THAT, IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY IF IT WOULD CAUSE ANY SORT OF MALFUNCTION. *TR
MY 2004 ACURA TL HAD A RECALL ON POWER STEERING FLUID LEAK IN SPRING OF 2008 AND IN DECEMBER OF 2008 I HAD TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED FOR THAT REASON AND THE ACURA DEALER NEVER REIMBURSED ME FOR THAT EXPENSE EVENTHOUGH IT WAS A RECALL. *TR

2004 ACURA TL-TRANSMISSION FAILURE- WELL THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED TO MY CAR AS OF YET BUT I CAN FEEL THE SLIPPING OF THE TRANSMISSION AND IM POSITIVE IT WILL GO OUT AT ANYTIME, AND FROM WHAT IT STATES IN YOUR LIST ACURA HAS AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ON 2004-2005 TL'S TRANSMISSION. AS IT STATES IN THE REVIEW IT COULD CAUSE A CRASH IF IT LOCKS UP WHICH COULD BE FATAL OR NON-FATAL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THIS ISN'T A RECALL SINCE SO MANY HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE AND IF ITS POSSIBLE TO GET THEM TO BECAUSE ITS INVOLVING MY SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHERS IF IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING. SUDDEN TRANSMISSION FAILURE, WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR PREVIOUS NOISE. SIMILAR SYMPTOMS OF A PREVIOUS RECALL, BUT HONDA INSISTS IT DOES NOT AFFECT MY VIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 ACURA TL. THE VEHICLE HAS GOODYEAR EAGLE TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A TSB NUMBER 05-076 THAT WAS ISSUED BY ACURA. THE TSB PERTAINS TO TIRE WEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LOADED. THE CONTACT PURCHASED BRAND NEW TIRES IN DECEMBER OF 2007. HE TOOK A ROAD TRIP WITH 5,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. THE TRIP WAS 5,600 MILES. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE TIRES WERE BALD A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO. HE CALLED THE ACURA DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR THE TIRES WITH THE TOWING ISSUE AND THE TSB, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES. THE TIRES ARE BOTH ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE TIRE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000. UPDATED 09/10/08 *BF THE CONSUMER DIDN'T BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TIRES. HE BELIEVED IT HAD TO DO WITH THE POOR DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS EXTRA WEIGHT IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, IN HIS CASE WAS ABOUT 300LBS COMPRISED OF SUITCASES AND HIS DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT (THE SUITCASES WERE IN THE TRUNK). WHEN HE ARRIVED HOME, HE NOTICED THE TREAD ON THE TIRES HAD WORN DOWN TO NOTHING. UPDATED 09/10/08
I PURCHASED VEHICLE AUGUST 2, 2008. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE THE PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE HUMS AND SHAKES WHILE DRIVING AND A VIBRATION CAN BE FELT. *TR
FORTY EIGHT DAYS AFTER PURCHASING A NEW SET OF PIRELLI P6 FOUR SEASON TIRES P235/45R17 FOR OUR 2004 ACURA, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE CROSSING THE CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE, GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES AN HOUR. ABOUT 3/4'S OF THE WAY ACROSS THE BRIDGE, WE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE CAR INSTANTLY BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, AND AS THERE IS NO PLACE TO STOP ON THE BRIDGE, SLOWED DOWN TO A CRAWL AND CONTINUED ABOUT A MILE UNTIL HE COULD SAFELY PULL OVER. THERE WAS NOTHING BUT THE REMAINS OF SIDEWALL ON THE RIM. THE POLICE OFFICER AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID THEY'D NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BUT THAT WE WERE CORRECT IN NOT STOPPING ON THE BRIDGE. UPON RESEARCH, WE FOUND THAT THIS COMPLAINT OF A SUDDEN BLOW-OUT HAS COME UP SEVERAL TIMES WITH THIS PARTICULAR TIRE. I AM GLAD THAT IT DID NOT HAPPEN AT A HIGHER SPEED OR IN A SITUATION WHERE THE OUTCOME COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. AS IT WAS, WE WERE JUST DELAYED ON OUR TRIP BY A FEW HOURS. FORTUNATELY, THE STORE WHERE WE PURCHASED THE TIRES A FEW WEEKS BEFORE (AT ALMOST $900.00) REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH YOKOHAMA, THE BRAND THAT IS ORIGINAL TO OUR CAR. THE CAR IS DEALER MAINTAINED AND I AM CAREFUL TO CHECK AIRPRESSURE WHEN I FILL UP THE TANK. AT ANY RATE, THE SUDDEN DEFLATION WAS EXTRAORDINARY, AND AS NO OTHER VEHICLES SEEMED TO BE HAVING THE PROBLEM, I DOUBT THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING IN THE ROAD THAT CAUSED IT. THE TIRES ONLY HAD 2,000 MILES ON THEM, AND THEY HAD A 60,000 MILE WARRANTY. THIS WAS NOT A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD HOPE THAT A RECALL IS FORTHCOMING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR WORSE. *TR
SEVERAL ACURAS TL 2004 HAVE HUGE CRACKS ON TOP OF THE AIRBAGS, OUR MEMBERS HAVE RAISED THE ISSUE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRACKED DASHBOARD BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. ALTHOUGH WE DON'T KNOW OF ANY CASES YET, IT IS REASONABLE TO BELIEVE THAT CRACKS THAT DEVELOP WHERE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS SUPPOSED TO DEPLOY HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO AFFECT THE DEPLOYMENT OF THIS SAFETY EQUIPMENT IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT AND, THEREFORE, SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY HAZARD. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE HEADLIGHTS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 8 WEST BOUND ON CRUISE CONTROL ABOUT 65MPH. I GET A SMELL OF OIL BURNING, AS I LOOK AT MY DASH I SEE THE RPM AT 4K. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT. THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND POWER STEERING FLUID WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER STATED THAT AN ERROR WAS MADE WHEN DURING THE PREVIOUS REPAIR AND THEY MADE THE CORRECTION ON MARCH 17, 2008. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V091000 (STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS) ON MAY 16, 2008. ON MAY 19, 2008, HE CALLED ACURA FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED BECAUSE THE FAILURE THAT WAS REPAIRED WAS NOT THE SAME AS WHAT WAS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.

THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 101,000.
THE DASH HAS CRACKED IN 15 LINES THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DASH. IT STARTED AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND ACURA DIRECTLY. THEY CONTINUE TO DENY THAT THERE IS A FLAW IN THE CRAFTSMANSHIP. *JS
DRIVING TO WORK IN THE RAIN THIS MORNING AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I HAD ZERO VISIBILITY AND WAS IN THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON A FOUR LANE ROAD. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET AND THINK THAT THIS TYPE OF SAFETY FAILURE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
ON JANUARY 4, 2008, WHILE TURNING LEFT FROM A STOPLIGHT IN CLIFTON PARK, NY, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL OF THE MY 2004 ACURA TL BROKE LOOSE AND WAS NO LONGER CONTROLLABLE. I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE/COAST THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOOK THE CAR TO NORTHEAST ACURA. AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, THE CAR HAD 61,634 MILES ON IT. I DIDN'T HEAR FROM NORTHEAST ACURA FOR OVER A WEEK. THE SERVICE ADVISOR (STEPHEN WITTEK) VERIFIED THAT THE BALL JOINT HAD SNAPPED AND IT HAD CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE DRIVESHAFT. AT THIS POINT I ASKED HIM IF IT WAS NORMAL TO ONLY REPLACE ONE BALL JOINT. HE SAID, NORMALLY, YOU'RE RIGHT. BUT THE LEFT SIDE BALL JOINT DIDN'T SHOW ANY WEAR AT ALL. IN FACT, THE RIGHT BALL JOINT DID NOT SHOW ANY SIGN OF WEAR EITHER. IT JUST BROKE - IT WASN'T ACTUALLY THE JOINT THAT FAILED BUT THE SUSPENSION ARM THAT HELD THE BALL PORTION OF THE JOINT. THERE WAS NO SIGN OF DAMAGE. IT JUST BROKE. WE'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. NOTE THE QUOTATION MARKS. I CALLED NORTHEAST ACURA AGAIN ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2008 AT APPROXIMATELY 3:00 P.M. TO CONFIRM THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD BE OPEN ON SATURDAY SO THAT I COULD PICK UP MY CAR. I ASKED THE PERSON TO ENSURE THEY PUT THE BROKEN PARTS FROM THE REPAIR IN MY TRUNK. SHE STATED THAT THEY HAD ALREADY DISPOSED OF THE BROKEN PARTS. I FIND IT HIGHLY DOUBTFUL THAT THOSE PARTS WERE NOT RETRIEVABLE ONE DAY AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. IN MY SUBSEQUENT DEALINGS WITH ACURA OF NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP (KEVIN MCCARTHY) STATED THAT IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO REQUEST THAT THE PART BE RETAINED FOR INSPECTION OF MATERIAL FAILURE. THEY OBVIOUSLY KNEW IT WAS MATERIAL FAILURE (SEE THE QUOTED PASSAGE ABOVE) AND FAILED TO RETAIN THE PART OR REPORT IT TO ACURA OF NORTH AMERICA. HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEED (I HAD JUST EXITED OFF I-87 NORTH IN A 65 MPH ZONE), THE RESULTS OF THIS FAILURE WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR GRAVER THAN THE NOMINAL DAMAGE TO MY CAR. *TR
