MY AUDI 2009 A4 IS GOING THROUGH A QUART OF OIL EVERY 150 MILES. THERE ARE NO LEAKS AND THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEN HARD. THE MORE I RESEARCH THE MORE PEOPLE I FIND WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. DREAM CAR HAS TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE. *TR
I PURCHASED MY AUDI 2009 A4 QUATTRO IN OCT. 2012. AFTER ONLY ONE MONTH I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER SHIP TO FIX. THEY SPEND OVER $2,000 IN REPAIRS TRYING TO GET THE OIL CONSUMPTION DOWN. I CONTINUED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. I HAVE SINCE SPENT OVER $6,000 TO TRY AND REPAIR THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. DUE TO THE FINANCIAL SITUATIONS I HAVE STILL NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM RESOLVED. ON MY LAST TRIP TO THE MECHANIC MY OIL CONSUMPTION WENT FROM 300 MILES PER QUART OF OIL TO NOW ONLY 100 MILES PER QUART OF OIL. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND YET WHEN I CONTACT AUDI THEY SAY IT IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. AUDI SHOULD BE HELP ACCOUNTABLE FOR SELLING FAULTY VEHICLES AND AVOIDING A RECALL TO TRY AND SAVE THEIR NAME AND THEIR PROFITS. I HAVE MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE CUTTING OUT OR NOT PRODUCING FULL POWER. AT TIMES IT WILL SEIZE OR NOT START AT ALL. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL WAS DIFFICULT TO ROTATE BECAUSE OF A STRONG RESISTANCE TO ROTATION. THIS BEHAVIOR WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL IN NORMAL TRAFFIC WITHOUT EXTREME FORCE. THE AUDI DEALERSHIP TESTED THE CAR AND REPLACED THE "INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT" BUT WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. A CARS STEERING SHOULD WORK FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. I QUOTE THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN'S REPORT: 'CONFIRMED CUSTOMER COMPLAINT AND FOUND THE STEERING WAS JERKY AND WOULD NOT RETURN TO CENTER. INSPECTED STEERING COMPONENTS AND FOUND THAT INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS BINDING CAUSING THE STEERING TO JERK. REMOVED AND REPLACED SHAFT AND TESTED AND FOUND CAR TO BE OPERATING AS DESIGNED." I REQUESTED THE REPLACED PART WHICH I HAVE. (PART NUMBER 8K1 419 753 F). THE PART INCLUDES TWO UNIVERSAL JOINTS , ONE ON EACH END. EACH UNIVERSAL JOINT INCLUDES TWO FLEXIBLE BEARINGS WHICH ALLOW THE SHAFT TO BE FREE TO ROTATE FOR CHANGE IN ANGULAR POSITION. ONE OF THE ROTATING PINS WAS FROZEN AND WOULD NOT ROTATE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND MAY BE OCCURRING ON MANY OF THIS TYPE OF SHAFT. THE NUMBER OF REPLACEMENTS BY AUDI SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED TO DETERMINE IF A RECALL INSPECTION IS NEEDED. I TOLD AUDI US HEADQUARTERS THAT I WOULD BE FILLING A CLAIM IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT. AS A RESULT THEY OFFERED TO PAY 50% OF THE $714.70 BILL WHICH I ACCEPTED INSTEAD OF WAITING FIVE MONTHS FOR A HEARING IN MASSACHUSETTS SMALL CLAIMS COURT. *TR
HEADLIGHT DIPPING WARNING COMES ON. MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS TO AUDI AND ON OTHER FORUMS WITH OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO HEADLIGHT GOING OUT DURING RANDOM TIMES WHILE DRIVING. AUDI IS FULLY AWARE THAT OVER 70 PERCENT OF ITS A4S HAS THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS A MAJOR CONCERN AND REFUSES TO FIX OR RECALL THE LIGHTS. THIS CAN HAPPEN ON A NEW VEHICLE PER MANY PEOPLES COMPLAINTS ONLINE. *TR
WHEN I AM BACKING UP, WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE REST OF THE COLUMN SHUDDER, VIBRATE AND MAKES A RUMBLING NOISE.
THE 2009 AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE REAR WINDOW'S ADHESIVE ON MY CAR (AND OTHERS, ACCORDING TO INTERNET/YOUTUBE POSTINGS) IS BECOMING DETACHED FROM THE TOP. THE ONLY CHOICE OWNERS HAVE IS TO PURCHASE A NEW CONVERTIBLE TOP. DEALERS CHARGE BETWEEN $4500-$6000. PRIVATE BODY SHOPS CHARGE APPROX. $1600+. WHILE RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, I DISCOVERED THAT IT IS A RELATIVELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH AUDI CONVERTIBLES, AS CONFIRMED BY THE AUDI SERVICE REP WHO INFORMED ME OF THE ISSUE DURING A SERVICE VISIT. IF THAT IS THE CASE, AUDI SHOULD HOLD THE ADHESIVE COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR, NOT THE AUDI CUSTOMER. PURCHASING AN ENTIRELY NEW TOP IS UNREASONABLE AND UNFAIR. MY REQUEST: AUDI USA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL, WHETHER THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT, AT NO CHARGE TO ITS CUSTOMERS. SHOULD RECOUP COSTS FROM THE ADHESIVE MANUFACTURER. AT THE VERY LEAST, CUSTOMERS, AT THE POINT OF SALE, SHOULD BE WARNED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THE DEFECT THAT HAPPENS SOON AFTER PURCHASE. *JS
I HAVE TWO SEAT BELT LATCHES THAT HAVE FAILED ON THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR. I USE THE SEAT BELTS TO STRAP MY KIDS AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS IN THE CAR. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TWO LATCHES FAIL ON A CAR THAT IS A 2009 MODEL YEAR. *TR
ENGINE BURNED EXCESSIVE OIL AND WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. DURING THE SERVICING IN AUGUST 2013, WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION. ABOUT 2QTS BETWEEN SERVICING. I ALSO INFORMED THAT I OCCASIONALLY SMELLED BURNING OIL AND ADVISED THE TECH TO LOOK FOR LEAKS. WAS TOLD NO PROBLEM FOUND. AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN 2013, TOOK IT FOR SERVICING IN 08/01/2014 AND DEALER INFORMS THAT CAM SEAL IS LEAKING AND IS A $1000 FIX. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT I MAY SMELL BURNING OIL!! MY CAR AT PRESENT HAS LESS THAN 22,000 MILES! I HAVE NOTICED THE OTHER PEOPLE BRING UP THE ISSUE OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND THE SERVICE DEPT PROVIDES A BOGUS ANSWER. I BELIEVE NHTSA SHOULD COMPEL AUDI TO FIX ISSUES ON DEFECTIVE DESIGNS REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE OR WARRANTY. IT IS HIGHLY UNETHICAL TO CHARGE CUSTOMER FOR THOUSANDS FOR A KNOWN DEFECT AND THAT TOO RIGHT THE YEAR AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP HID THE CAM LEAK TO AVOID THE COST TO AUDI DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I APPRECIATE ANY HELP REGARDING THIS ISSUE. PURCHASED AROUND JAN 2013 WITH APX. 30,000 MI. NOTICED RIGHT AWAY THE ADD OIL INDICATOR COMING ON. AFTER ADDING A QUART OF OIL A COUPLE OF TIMES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND EVEN TAKING INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO ADD OIL, I QUESTIONED THE OIL CONSUMPTION OF THE CAR KNOWING THAT NO CAR USES THAT MUCH OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED ME THERE WERE NO ISSUES AT FIRST. AFTER HAVING THE DEALERSHIP DO MY OIL CHANGES AND THE ADD OIL INDICATOR CONTINUING TO COME ON, I FINALLY STATED TO DEALERSHIP THERE IS A PROBLEM AND IT NEEDED TO BE LOOKED INTO. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP TESTING THE OIL CONSUMPTION OF THE CAR TWO TIMES, THEY FOUND THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND REPAIRED IT. HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS SINCE. RECORDS OF REPAIR ON FILE.
I WAS JUST PARKING THE CAR AND WAS ABOUT 5 MPH AND SUDDENLY CAR GOT ACCELERATED UNINTENTIONALLY TO HIGHER RPM AND HIT THE CURB AND ABOVE CEMENT WALL . EVEN APPLYING BRAKES HADN'T SLOWED DOWN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS JUST FEW FEET AWAY. *TR
RIGHT MIRROR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT FAILED
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS CARD AND IT HAS A WEIRD GRINDING TYPE NOISE WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS OR WHILE PARKED. STEERING SHAKES AND FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS ABOUT BREAK OR IS LOOSE AT THE STEERING COMPONENT POSSIBLE LINKAGE ISSUE. *TR
THE CAR BURNS 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 200 MILES. ITS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 2009 A4 2.0T MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE BURNING GALLONS OF OIL IN THESE CARS. ITS A SHAME THAT AUDI IS SWEEPING THIS ISSUE UNDER THE RUG. THESE CARS NEED RECALLED. *TR
AFTER PLACING THE TONGUE IN THE BUCKLE, IT WILL NOT LOCK. *JS
I HAVE OBTAINED THIS CAR AS A USED CAR. ENGINE OIL WAS CHANGED ONE WEEK AFTER I HAVE THE CAR AT A MECHANIC SHOP. THREE WEEKS (ABOUT 500MILES DRIVING) LATER, A LOW ENGINE OIL ALARM SOUNDED. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SAME MECHANIC SHOP AND ADD A QUART OF OIL TO THE ENGINE. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO A ROAD TRIP. THE LOW OIL ALARM SOUNDED AGAIN. THIS WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF MY ROAD TRIP WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY (ABOUT 500MILES SINCE LAST OIL ADDITION) AT ABOUT 75MPH. I HAVE TO GET OFF THE HIGH WAY RIGHT AWAY AND WENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP TO TOP OFF THE OIL. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF I COULDN?T FIND A MECHANIC SHOP IN TIME TO ADD MORE ENGINE OIL, THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE BEEN OVERHEATED, LOCKED, AND FORCED TO STOP RIGHT AWAY. UNDER THIS SCENARIO, A SERIOUS COLLISION WITH THE CARS BEHIND OR NEXT TO ME MIGHT BE CAUSED IF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. UPON RESEARCH, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THIS ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM/COMPLAINT IN THIS MODEL OF CAR DUE TO THE DEFECTS IN THE PISTON RINGS. IN MOST CASES, THE PISTON RINGS WERE REPLACED UNDER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. MY CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY WITH 57K MILES ON IT. THE DEALER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FIXING THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND IT WAS DEFECTED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
USED OIL, 1 QUART PER 450 MILES. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE PISTON RINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS LEAKING AND BURNING OIL CAR IS 3.5 YEARS OLD 72K MILES. I WAS TOLD AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ THIS IS A COMMON THEME WITH THIS CAR. *JS
WHEN I CALLED THE NEAREST DEALER FOR A SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE FOR 55000 MILES, I WAS INFORMED OF A RECALL INVOLVING THE CAMSHAFT. BY PHONE, THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO CHARGE FOR THIS WORK AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT TWO HOURS. I DELIVERED THE VEHICLE AT 8 AM AND AT 11 AM I RECEIVED A CALL. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD BEGIN THE RECALL WORK, BUT IT WAS A RECALL THAT INVOLVED THE 50000 MILE WARRANTY. I WAS NEARING 55000 MILES, BUT THEY WOULD DUE THE WORK UNDER WARRANTY. AT 2 PM, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THEY PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR UNTIL THEY COMPLETED THE WORK. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE??? THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE WITH THE CAMSHAFT PROBLEM WENT OUT IN JUNE 2011. THAT WAS ONE MONTH AFTER THE MAINE DEALER PERFORMED MY 35000 MILE MAINTENANCE!!! THE POINT IS THAT THE LONGER I DROVE THE VEHICLE, THE WORSE THE PROBLEM PROGRESSED. THEY SAID THAT EVENTUALLY, I WOULD LOOSE THE ENGINE. *TR
ON TWO OCCASIONS, APRIL 3, 2012 AND APRIL 9, 2012, WHILE TRAVELING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 78 MPH, WITHOUT TOUCHING THE CONTROL OR ACCELERATOR, THE CONTROL SETTING JUMPED TO 90 MPH AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RAPIDLY ACCELERATE. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGED. *JS
SINCE THE MOMENT I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2012, I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT CONSTANT ISSUES. THIS VEHICLE HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ON THE FREEWAY (SURPRISED I WAS NOT HURT BECAUSE OF THIS). I'VE HAD ENGINE LIGHTS ON, CHECK OIL LEVEL LIGHTS ON, ALTERNATOR GOING BAD, ESP LIGHTS ON, BEARINGS REPLACEMENT. YOU NAME IT, ITS HAPPENED. I TOOK MY AUDI IN FOR AN APPRAISAL AND TURNS OUT THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING BAD, HAD WARRANTY AND AUDI SERVICES DID NOT MENTION ANY ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION, WASN'T UNTIL MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED WHEN I FOUND THIS OUT. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED.
"AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN." THE OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRRORS BLOCK THE DRIVER VIEW TO THE EXTENT THAT AN ENTIRE CAR IS MANY TIMES COMPLETELY HIDDEN FROM THE DRIVERS' VIEW. THEY ARE PLACED POORLY AND MAYBE ARE TOO LARGE. MAYBE IF THEY WERE LOWER, OR SMALLER OR THE DRIVERS SEAT HIGHER. I AM A FEMALE OF AVERAGE HEIGHT AND HAVE HAD A FEW CLOSE CALLS. I NOW MUST RISE MYSELF UP TO SEE OVER OR AROUND THE MIRROR WHICH IS DIFFICULT WHEN DRIVING. *TR
THERE IS A GRUMBLING/MOANING TYPE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION. VERY NOTICEABLE AROUND 20-30 MPH AND WHEN MAKING SLIGHT LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. *TR
AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR A YEAR, IT STARTED TO BURN THROUGH OIL AT AN INCREASING RATE. CURRENTLY IT IS GOING THROUGH ABOUT 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN A FEW TIMES TO CHECK FOR LEAKS OR TRY TO DETERMINE THE LOCATION WHERE IT IS GOING AND HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THAT THIS MODEL ENGINE GOES THROUGH AT A FASTER PACE AND HAS BEEN A COMMON COMPLAINT AMONGST CUSTOMERS. IN ADDITION TO THIS I HAVE DEALT WITH HAVING TO GET THE SUNROOF RE-LUBRICATED EVERY FEW MONTHS, DEALING WITH RATTLES IN THE DOORS, WARPING OF THE INTERIOR (DASH, DOOR PANELS, SEAT BACKS), AND A ONE-TIME FAILURE WITH THE DOOR LATCH NOT WORKING DURING COLD TEMPERATURES. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES ON MY CAR ARE HORRIBLE. THEY'RE VERY FLIMSY AND THIN. THEY DON'T DO A GOOD JOB OF CLEANING UP THE WINDSHIELD IN RAIN, AND IF THERE IS ANY SNOW OR ICE.. THEY GET STUCK ON THE BUMPS AND MISS THE GLASS. THE WIPER BLADES ARE "STORED" IN A PIT UNDER THE WINDSHIELD TO PROTECT THEM FROM THE SNOW AND ICE... EXCEPT THE PIT JUST FILLS WITH THE ICE AND SNOW AND COVERS THEM.. SO THEY ARE BEYOND USELESS NOW. THE DEFOGGER ON HIGH BLAST MAKES THE WINDSHIELD A LITTLE BETTER.. BUT IT CANT WARM THE BLADES.. SO THEY WILL STILL KEEP GETTING ICED UP AND JUST SCRAPING ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD NOT DOING ANYTHING. *TR
PARKED IN AN INCLINE, I ATTEMPTED TO BACK OUT OF A DRIVE WAY. I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE AND REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WENT FORWARD AS IF IN NEUTRAL WITH NO RESISTANCE AT ALL. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE QUICKLY TO PREVENT FROM GOING THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR. ALTHOUGH I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING IN REVERSE. I HAD TO GET THE ENGINE RPM UP FAIRLY HIGH TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE AT ALL. IT WAS LIKE I HAD THE PARKING BRAKE ON BUT IF I LET UP ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WOULD AGAIN ROLL FORWARD. WHEN THE CAR REACHED THE TOP OF THE DRIVE, IT QUICKLY GRABBED AND ACCELERATED. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE QUICKLY BUT NOT BEFORE I HIT A RETAINING WALL BEHIND ME. THIS TYPE OF HESITATION HAS ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCED WHEN IN DRIVE. DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOT PRODUCE IMMEDIATE RESULTS. THEN STARTS TO INCREASE RPM'S AN THEN THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD. I HAVE RETURNED IT TO THE AUDI DEALER A FEW MONTHS AGO FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. WHEN THE SERVICE MAN MOVED MY CAR HE IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE CONDITION BUT IT WAS RETURNED TO ME "WORKING AS DESIGNED". FOR THE NEXT 2-3 MONTHS, THE TRANSMISSION WAS AS RESPONSIVE AS ANY OTHER AUTO BUT THIS HAS CHANGED BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. UPDATED IVOQ 10/26/10 *TR
I HAD JUST GONE TO THE GROCERY STORE AND WAS UNLOADING THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLES WERE NOT VISIBLE THROUGH THE SLOTS OF THE SEATS ANYMORE. I TRIED TO FEEL FOR THEM AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE SEAT WAS TOO FAR FORWARD AND THE CURVED PART AT THE BACK OF THE SEAT WAS NO LONGER TUCKED TO THE SEAT BACK. AS I WAS TRYING TO SEE IF I COULD PUT IT BACK INTO POSITION THE SEAT COMPLETELY DISLODGED FROM THE CAR AND THE GLUE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ATTACHING THE SEAT TO THE CAR, THE WIRING AND EVEN PART OF THE CAR ITSELF WAS VISIBLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY NEW 2009 AUDI A4 WHICH HAD LESS THAN 3500 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME WHEN FIRST THE TRANSMISSION CHANGES BEGAN TO BE VERY ABRUPT. I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT AT FIRST AND TRAFFIC ON THE WESTSIDE HIGHWAY IN NEW YORK CITY WAS FAIRLY CONGESTED SO THE SPEEDS WERE NOT THAT HIGH. SUDDENLY, THE TRANSMISSION STOPS SHIFTING ALL TOGETHER AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAR'S DASHBOARD TURN ON BEFORE THE ENGINE SIMPLY SHUTS OFF I ROLL TO A HALT IN THE CENTER LANE OF THE WESTSIDE HIGHWAY AND USE THE BATTERY TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS. I REPEATEDLY TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD START FOR ABOUT A SECOND BEFORE THE WHOLE CAR BEGAN TO VIBRATE HEAVILY BEFORE THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN. THE POLICE WERE CALLED AND THEY ESCORTED THE TOW-TRUCK OFF THE HIGHWAY. DEALER ROAD FORCE BALANCED WHEELS AT MY EXPENSE ($70), DEALER SAID AUDI WOULDN'T PAY FOR CONTROL ARM REPLACEMENT. I CALLED AUDI TO COMPLAIN (OBTAINED CASE NO.) BECAUSE THEY VOLUNTARILY REPLACED CONTROL ARMS IN TWO LONG TERM TEST VEHICLES IN EDMONDS INSIDE LINE FLEET AFTER EDMONDS PUBLISHED ARTICLES NOTING THE STEERING PROBLEM (HTTP://BLOGS.INSIDELINE.COM/ROADTESTS/2009/07/2009-AUDI-A4-AND-S5-STEERING-VIBRATION-WRAP-UP.HTML). 2009 AUDI A4 AVANT WITH 28000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE STEERING BECAME HARD TO STEER AT LOW SPEED. I DROVE IT TO THE AUDI DEALER 315 MILES FROM MY HOME. THE WIPER BLADES ON 2009+ MODEL YEAR AUDI A4 HAVE A CHANNEL ON THE TOP SURFACE THAT COLLECTS LIQUID/ICY SLUSH AND IN FREEZING CONDITIONS THAT LIQUID FREEZES MAKING THE BLADE RIGID AND INCAPABLE OF CLEARING THE GLASS RESULTING IN ZERO VISIBILITY. FURTHER, AUDI IS USING A PROPRIETARY WIPER BLADE MOUNT WHICH MEANS THAT THERE ARE NO THIRD PARTY OPTIONS TO INSTALL A TRADITIONAL 'WINTER' TYPE BLADE NOT SUBJECT TO FREEZING. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE REQUESTS TO AUDI REPORTING THIS PROBLEM AND HOPING FOR SOME SOLUTION SINCE NOVEMBER 2008 BUT THEY SEEM TO HAVE NO INTEREST IN ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A THIRD TIME WHERE THEY REDESIGNED AND INSTALLED THE POWER STEERING HOSE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FUNCTION AS NORMAL BUT THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES AFTER THE NEW POWER STEERING HOSE WAS INSTALLED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE STEERING VIBRATIONS WERE A NORMAL ATTRIBUTE TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,800.

THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 300. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,700.
THIS AUDI WAS A LEMON FROM THE START AND BOTCHED REPAIRS AT THE DEALER HAVE ONLY MADE IT WORSE. ONE THE 2ND DAY WE OWNED THE CAR THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND WE HAD TO RETURN IT TO THE DEALER FOR MORE OIL. OVER THE NEXT 2 YEARS THE CAR BURNED AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL STARTING AT 1 QRT EVERY 2500 MILES AND DETERIORATING TO 1 QRT EVERY 800 MILES. ALL ALONG THE DEALER TOLD US THIS WAS "NORMAL". IN MAY 2011, DEALER TOLD US THAT AUDI HAD INITIATED A TESTING PROGRAM AND IF THE CAR FAILED THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING. IN JUNE 2011, THE CAR FAILED TEST AND THE DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR 3+ WEEKS CONDUCTING MAJOR ENGINE SURGERY. 6000 MILES LATER WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO DO ROUTINE WARRANTY WORK. IN THE COURSE OF THIS WORK, THEY DESTROYED THE TIMING CHAIN AND PISTONS OF THE CAR. 1 WEEK LATER THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. IN TALKING TO AUDI TECHNICIANS AT OTHER DEALERS (OFF THE RECORD) THEY SAY THAT THE OIL PROBLEM IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND THAT THE FIXES ARE SIMPLY BANDAIDS. APPEARS THAT THE 2012 MODEL HAS BEEN REDESIGNED TO FIX THE ENGINE FLAW. THE NET EFFECT IS THAT THE CAR HAS VISITED THE AUDI DEALER ON AT LEAST A MONTHLY BASIS SINCE WE BOUGHT IT AND HAS SPEND MORE THAN 8 WEEKS IN MAJOR "WARRANTY RELATED" ENGINE REPAIRS. TO TOP IT OFF, AUDI HAS COMPLIMENTED THIS "WORST IN CLASS" PRODUCT EXPERIENCE WITH A "WORST IN CLASS" CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE AS AUDI AMERICA 1-800 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY EITHER ROBOTIC OR RUDE IN TALKING WITH US ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MOST RECENTLY, THEY MADE A LAME OFFER TO REIMBURSE US FOR TOWING EXPENSES AND EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THIS DUBIOUS CAR FOR ANOTHER 12 MONTHS. AMAZINGLY, THEY REFUSE TO PU T THE OFFER IN WRITING UNTIL AFTER ACCEPTANCE. PRESUMABLY SO THAT THEY CAN AVOID LEGAL ISSUES. PLEASE HELP. I AM SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING THIS. *TR
I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE AND THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. DUE TO SUN GLARE, I REAR-ENDED A MERCURY MOUNTAINEER WITH MY 2006 AUDI A4 CONVERTIBLE. I NEVER SAW HIS TAILLIGHTS, I WAS NOT MESSING WITH THE RADIO OR TALKING ON THE CELL PHONE. I WAS NOT CITED, ALTHOUGH THE ACCIDENT WAS CLEARLY MY FAULT. I WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT AND SHOULDER HARNESS IN THE CORRECT FASHION. MY INJURIES WERE MINOR BRUISING AND A RUB MARK ON MY NECK FROM THE SHOULDER HARNESS. THE ACCIDENT WAS A DIRECT HIT, PRACTICALLY STRAIGHT ON. THE RADIATOR WAS PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT. THE REST OF THE AUDI SAFETY FEATURES WORKED - THE REAR SEAT ROLLOVER PROTECTION DEPLOYED. THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS CAME ON. THE ENGINE TURNED ITSELF OFF. MY QUESTION IS WHY DIDN'T THE DRIVER AIRBAG GO OFF??? IT WAS A DIRECT HIT. THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, YET THAT AIRBAG WENT OFF. *TR

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THREE DEALERS AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT THE STEERING FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CONTROL ARM CLIP AND THE STEERING LOWER ARM CONTROL. REPLACING THE PARTS WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE FAILURE WOULD BE CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT OFFERED TO PAY THE CONTACT $748 PER MONTH UNTIL THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO PUT THE AGREEMENT IN WRITING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,400.
