I JUST CAME BACK FROM A LONG FAMILY VACATIONS, I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE ALL OVER THE STATES! I WAS SO LUCKY! THIS HAPPEN TO ME WHEN I GOT HOME , MY 2006 BMW 330I WHICH HAD A STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTION AND FAILURE. MALFUNCTION OF INTEGRAL LOCK SENSOR IN STEERING COLUMN NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN, IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY A BMW CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. BUT IS NOT!!! THE WARNING INDICATOR IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SHOWED AN ICON OF A STEERING WHEEL AND A LOCK AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START, I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE, EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO COVER THIS VERY COMMON QUALITY PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER A MANUFACTURERS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN. ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, THERE ARE MANY CASES REPORTED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM! AND THAT'S WHY! I AM REPORTING THIS INCIDENT TO NHTSA IN HOPES THAT BMW WILL DO SOMETHING FOR OTHER OWNERS AS THE REPAIR BILL WAS $1000 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY BMW. ALL I THINK ABOUT IS! THE MESSAGE 'STEERING WHEEL LOCK' CAME UP AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. I HAD TO PAY TO BRING IT HOME. BMW SAYS 'IT HAPPENS TO SOME CUSTOMERS' AND THEY ASKED ME TO BRING THE CAR TO A SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. I SEE A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS IN FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY IT IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE LOCK MECHANISM. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT HAS A FAULTY SEAT MAT SENSOR WHICH CAUSES THE AIRBAG TO BE DISENGAGED. THE FAULT HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY A MECHANIC AND THERE IS A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SAME YEAR/MODEL OF CAR BUT IT IS NOT SPECIFIC TO MY VIN NUMBER. BMW USA AND DEALER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BUT WILL PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE IN REPAIRING THE DEFECT WITHOUT NORMAL COMPENSATION UNLESS THE VIN NUMBERS ARE EXTENDED. CLEARLY THIS IS AN ISSUE ON OTHER VINS WITHIN THE SAME MANUFACTURING MODELS AND YEARS OF MY CAR BASED ON THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 RECALL NOTICE. *TR
THE DOORS TO THE VEHICLE LOCKED AUTOMATICALLY AND COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND USE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION FOB TO OPEN THE DRIVER DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. ALL OTHER DOORS REMAINED LOCKED AND COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS COULD BE TRAPPED IN THE CAR WITH NO WAY TO EXIT BESIDES CRAWLING THROUGH A WINDOW. I BELIEVE BMW SHOULD ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT. *JS

MY SON TURNED RIGHT FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT THE STOP SIGN. HE ACCELERATED TO THE APPROPRIATE SPEED PRIOR TO THE UPCOMING TURN (25MPH) HE THEN LET OFF THE GAS GOING INTO THE TURN TO COAST BEFORE BRAKING. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 40-45 MPH DUE TO FLOOR MAT ENTRAPMENT BECAUSE THERE IS NO FLOOR MAT RETENTION SYSTEM. HE WAS LOSING CONTROL OF THE CAR AS HE TRIED TO MOVE THE FLOOR MAT AWAY FROM THE GAS PEDAL. HE THEN SLID OFF THE ROAD WHILE CONTINUING TO BRAKE, OVERCORRECTED AND WENT OFF THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL. ALL THE WHILE HE WAS TRYING TO STOP THE CAR. *TR
AIR BAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH REMAIN LIT AT ALL TIMES. ADDITIONALLY, THE "PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLED" INDICATOR REMAINS LIT AT ALL TIMES. THERE IS A RECALL CAMPAIGN (SEE BELOW) FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT ISSUE WHICH CAUSED THESE PROBLEMS, YET APPARENTLY NOT FOR MY VIN. THE DISABLED PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AND CLEARLY MY VIN SHOULD BE PART OF THE RECALL. STATEMENT ON VOLUNTARY RECALL INVOLVING FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT ON U.S.A. MODEL BMWS - AUGUST 13, 2008 TODAY, BMW ANNOUNCED A VOLUNTARY RECALL REGARDING THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG SEAT SENSOR MAT INVOLVING APPROXIMATELY 200,000 MODEL YEAR 2004-06 VEHICLES. AFFECTED ARE CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 3-SERIES, MODEL YEAR 2004-06 5-SERIES, AND MODEL YEAR 2004-06 X3 VEHICLES, DEPENDING UPON SEAT TYPE. BMW HAS FOUND THAT THE SENSOR MAT MAY BECOME DAMAGED DURING VEHICLE USAGE DEPENDING UPON THE MANNER AND FREQUENCY OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S ENTRY AND EXIT. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR FAILED AND THE ENTIRE SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE OF AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000.

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,946.
THE IDRIVE CONTROL PANEL IS SHOWING AN ALERT THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG HAS FAILED. I CONTACTED BMW CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAY MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) EVEN THOUGH THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM MATCHES MY PROBLEM EXACTLY. I HAVE A 2006 BMW 325XI WITH STANDARD SEATS AND ACCORDING TO 13V564000 I SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR COVERAGE UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. BMW IS TELLING ME I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING, COULDN'T GET IN OR OUT OF CAR OR OPEN THE GAS DOOR. REPLACED FUSE #57 AND NOW 3 OF 4 LOCKS ARE WORKING. AFTER DOING ONLINE RESEARCH I'VE FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE CARS AND IT IS UNSAFE AS I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IF THERE WAS AN EMERGENCY. IT SEEMS THAT THIS PROBLEM IS SO COMMON THAT IT WOULD WARRANT A RECALL. *JS
PASSENGER SAT IN PASSENGER SEAT AND AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OFF. WAS TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS BECAUSE OF A BAD SENSOR MAT FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL BUT NOT MY CAR SPECIFIC.

ON MAY 12, 2014, AS I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY, I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, SO THAT I CAN OPEN THE GARAGE DOOR, TO GET INSIDE OF MY GARAGE. AS I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND PROCEEDED TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY, AT A HIGH RATE OF ACCELERATION. I INSTINCTIVELY APPLIED THE BRAKES, HOWEVER, THIS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, SAFETY DEFECT, CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO THE BACKSIDE WALL OF MY GARAGE, THUS CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, WHICH MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO THE NOVEMBER 2013, BMW RECALL RELATING TO AIR BAGS. THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE WAS 14,240, AT THE TIME THAT THIS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION DEFECT, MANIFESTED ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP, HOWEVER, BECAUSE THIS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION DEFECT, IS MORE THAN LIKELY, EMBEDDED OPERATING SYSTEM RELATED, THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO FIND A HARDWARE RELATED, MECHANICAL CAUSE, TO THIS STATED DEFECT. ON MAY 30, 2014, I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, WITH MY HUSBAND ACCOMPANYING ME. AS I ARRIVED ON MY STREET AND ABOUT TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY, ONCE AGAIN, ALMOST STRIKING MY POSTAL CARRIER. MY HUSBAND, AS WELL AS MY POSTAL CARRIER, WERE WITNESSES TO THIS SECOND INCIDENCE OF SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE, AT THE TIME OF THIS SECOND OCCURRENCE, OF THE STATED DEFECT IS 14,247. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION HAS PLAGUED BMW VEHICLES, SINCE AT LEAST THE 1990'S. BMW 325 1990, BMW 750IL 1991, BMW 525 1992, BMW 318IS 1993, BMW 528I 1997, BMW 328I 1998, BMW 318 1998, BMW 528I 1998, BMW 328I 1999, BMW 528I 1999, BMW R1100 1999, BMW 750LI 2006, BMW 530I 2007, BMW 1 SERIES, ETC., HAVE ALL BEEN REPORTED BY BMW OWNERS AS HAVING THIS SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, SAFETY DEFECT. *TR
DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG NOTIFICATION LIGHT BEGAN IMMEDIATELY AFTER PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG MAT WAS REPLACED BY DEALER. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG, THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL.

I AM AN OWNER OF 2006 BMW 330I SEDAN WITH SPORTS SEAT (MANUFACTURE DATE: 5/2005). RECENTLY, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR BECAME MALFUNCTION, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS INDICATED AS 'PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF' AS THE RESULT. AFTER RESEARCHING ON NHTSA WEBSITE, I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, AND BMW IS ISSUING A RECALL ON AFFECTED VEHICLES. HOWEVER, IN FURTHER REVIEWING THE RELATED DOCUMENTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, ALTHOUGH BMW HAS RECALLED 2006 330I SEDAN WITH SPORT SEATS, THE MANUFACTURE DATE OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ARE FROM DEC 2005 TO SEPT 2006, AND BECAUSE OF THIS, IT EXCLUDES MY VEHICLE. WITH OTHER COMPLAINTS LISTED, IT IS CLEAR THAT THE SAME ISSUE HAS IMPACTED A LOT OF OWNERS OF 2006 330I SEDAN WITH SPORT SEAT PRIOR TO THE MANUFACTURE DATE THAT BMW HAS SPECIFIED ON THE RECALL. DUE TO THIS REASON, THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED TO INCLUDE EARLIER MANUFACTURE DATE OF THE MODEL CONSIDERED THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE CONTACTED BMW OF NORTH AMERICA AND THE LOCAL DEALER TWO TIMES EACH AND HAVE BEEN TOLD "WHEN THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE I WILL BE NOTIFIED". THE RECALL LETTER IS DATED MAY 2014. IT IS NOW JAN 2015. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE I BELIEVE THAT SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH MORE URGENCY. *TR

THERE IS A CLEAR MANUFACTURER DEFECT CONCERNING THE ALUMINUM BOLTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VALVE COVER GASKET ON THE BMW 2006 325I'S. WITH RESEARCH THAT I HAVE BEEN DOING FROM OTHERS, I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND BMW DOES KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THIS CAN BE A SAFETY CONCERN IF NOT CORRECTED QUICK DUE TO THE POSSIBILITY OF OIL FALLING ON TOP OF THE EXHAUST PIPE AND MAY CAUSE A FIRE.THE DEFECTIVE BOLTS POSE A SERIOUS POTENTIAL RISK TO THE SAFETY OF THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES, AS WELL AS TO OTHER DRIVERS WHO SHARE THE ROADWAY WITH THEM. THIS BMW HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK AND ON MY CAR, THE COLUMN HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THIS IS DUE TO A FAULTY ELV. IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE OF THE ELV, THE CAR IS DISABLED LEAVING PEOPLE STRANDED! BMW'S FIX FOR THIS IS EITHER A REPROGRAM OR REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN, AGAIN IN MY CASE. PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAGS ARE DISABLED DUE TO RESTRAINT DETECTION MALFUNCTION. A MESSAGE APPEARS UPON TURNING ON THE VEHICLE WHICH STATES THAT DUE TO RESTRAINT SYSTEM DETECTION FAULT, PASSENGER AIRBAGS AND RESTRAINT SYSTEM WILL BE TURNED OFF. PROBLEM STARTED AS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE AND DEVELOPED INTO A CONTINUAL ONE. HAPPENED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN APRIL 2014 AND HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN. CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH BMW OEM SPORT SEATS. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE IN LINE WITH RECALL FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V-564. HOWEVER, BMW DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY VIN AS BEING A PART OF THIS RECALL.

JUST HAD CAR SERVICED AND LOOKED OVER ON WEEK LATER STEERING WHEEL LOCK CAME ON WHEN I USED IT DAY BEFORE. HAD NO WARNING, WOKE UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO WORK AND STEERING WHEEL LOCK SYMBOL CAME UP AND CAR WILL NOT START. *TR

AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED AS A PASSENGER AIRBAG ISSUE REQUIRING A NEW SENSOR PAD UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT (AT SIGNIFICANT COST) I SEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE IS AN EXISTING RECALL AROUND THIS EXACT ISSUE THAT MY CAR APPARENTLY DID NOT QUALIFY FOR DUE TO THE MANUFACTURE DATE BEING 2/05-11/05 AND MY CAR BEING BUILT IN 1/06. AFTER SPEAKING TO BMW NORTH AMERICA I WAS INFORMED THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT SHOULD COVER MY MODEL WITH MANUFACTURER DATES OF 12/05 - 9/06. I HAVE YET TO BE NOTIFIED OF WHETHER MY VEHICLE QUALIFIES, BUT BECAUSE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE I HAD TO UNDERTAKE THE COSTLY REPAIR WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DESPITE BMW'S DEFINITIVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. *TR
