DRIVING WITH BAG ON PASSENGER SEAT, "RED AIRBAG & RED SEATBELT" INDICATORS LIGHT UP. UPON TAKING TO DEALERSHIP, THEIR CODE READER SUGGESTED "LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE" CAUSED LIGHTS. CLEARED CODE. MONTHS LATER, WITH WORK BAG ON PASSENGER SEAT HAPPENS AGAIN. CLEARED CODE. SUGGESTED TO BUY A NEW BATTERY. BOUGHT A NEW BMW BATTERY, AND SAME THING, HAPPENS AGAIN. I TAKE TO ANOTHER SHOP (BMW CHARGES 100-150 TO CLEAR CODE EACH TIME...) AND THEY CLEAR CODE, STILL "LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE" BUT SUGGESTED I LOOK INTO THIS OCCUPANCY SEAT SENSOR RECALL. GO BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY UNLESS CODE READER SAYS AIRBAG FAULT, THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY. THROUGH THE COURSE OF 2 YEARS NOW, THE LIGHT HAS COME BACK ON 4 TIMES PRIOR, AND NOW TODAY A 5TH TIME. I HAVE YET TO TAKE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AGAIN, BUT MAKING MY COMPLAINTS. I AM NOT A GENIUS BUT SOMEHOW I THINK THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT MUST BE DEFECTIVE YET THROWS ERROR CODES OF "LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE". WHEN I CHECK THE CODE MANUALLY THROUGH THE DRIVERS STALK, CCID-97 (FROM MEMORY) WHICH ONLINE REFERENCED TO AIR BAG FAULT. ALTHOUGH I HAVE OWNED VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS, IT WAS A "CERTIFIED" PREOWNED FROM DEALER, AND I"M BEING TOLD THAT THE RECALL COVERS ONLY 10 YEARS AFTER THE ORIGINAL SALE DATE. WHICH MEANS OCTOBER/NOVEMBER THIS YEAR OF 2014, I AM OUT OF LUCK. HUNDREDS WASTED EACH TIME, INCORRECT DIAGNOSING. AND BMW REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS RECALL UNTIL A MACHINE TELLS THEM OTHERWISE. AND UNTIL THAT DAY COMES, THEY'LL KEEP SELLING ME NEW BATTERIES AND OTHER FALSE HOPES TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE WOULD ACTIVATE THE AUTOMATIC FOLDING MIRRORS, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE MIRROR WOULD TURN COMPLETELY AROUND AND FACE THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO A LOCKING MECHANISM FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN THE MIRROR BACK AND WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE MIRROR WOULD SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED AT 76 MPH. AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE AS THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE BATTERY SAFETY TERMINAL FAILED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO FURTHER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING FURTHER DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE WHEEL SEIZED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELV STEERING LOCK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,334.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 3 SERIES. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DRIVER?S SIDE DOOR USING THE ELECTRONIC KEY FOB BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE CONTACT EVENTUALLY OPENED THE FRONT DRIVER?S SIDE DOOR WITH THE HANDLE AND WAS ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON ALL OTHER DOORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE DOOR ACTUATORS ON ALL DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,700. UPDATED 05/31/12 *BF THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE OR THE INSIDE DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE ACTUATORS. A MECHANICAL OVERRIDE FAILED AND THE DOOR HANDLES WOULD NOT WORK. THE KEY ONLY WORKED IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR.
ON MAY 2ND, DURING A RAIN STORM, OUR 2006 BMW 3 SERIES' WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED. WE WERE ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED OUR SERVICE CENTER, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. THE SERVICE CENTER'S OWNER/MECHANIC INFORMED US, THAT THERE WERE 3 OTHER 06 3 SERIES IN FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THE INVOICE READS; WORK REQUESTED- DIAG WIPERS INOP, WORK PERFORMED- REPLACE JBE CONT MODULE(PART# 63 21 5 897 528). A CALL WAS MADE TO BMW, USA ON MAY 11TH AND BMW DOES NOT HAVE, TO DATE, AN OPEN RECALL ON THE PROBLEM. THIS IS DISCONCERTING, SINCE A SMALL SERVICE CENTER IN THE SMALL TOWN OF BRIDGEWATER, MA. HAD 4(INCLUDING OURS) 06 BMW 3 SERIES IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AND ON THE SAME DATE. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED GOING ON AND OFF WHEN A PASSENGER IS AND IS NOT SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE DEFECT IS CLEARLY THE SEAT WEIGHT SENSOR THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE CITED. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. I CALLED THE DEALER, AND LIKE MANY OTHERS, I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000. THE DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE $125 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND $1500-1700 (ESTIMATE) TO REPLACE THE SEAT MAT. ALL THE COST IS WAS GOING TO BE THE OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITY. MILEAGE IS CURRENTLY 71K. I'M HOPEFUL THIS COMPLIANT HELPS PUSH THE NHTSA AND BMW TO EXTEND THE RECALL TO ALL 2006 325I MODELS SO OWNERS DON'T HAVE TO ABSORB THE HIGH COST OF A SERIOUS SAFETY AND DESIGN DEFECT THAT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
CAR STARTED SHOWING "PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM MALFUNCTION". I RESEARCHED THE MATTER, AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL. WHEN I CALLED BMW AND GAVE THEM MY VIN, THEY CLAIMED THAT THERE IS NO RECALL. ALMOST EVERY OTHER BMW FROM THAT SERIES/MODEL WAS RECALLED AND GOT THE ISSUE RECTIFIED UNDER THE RECALL. PLEASE ADVISE. DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH CENTER CONSOLE DOOR LOCK, NOR THE KEY FOB. CAN ONLY BE UNLOCKED VIA MANUAL KEY. *JS
BMW RECALL 2006 13V564000 WAS ISSUED IN NOVEMBER OF 2013 TO RECALL THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT DETECTION MAT THAT DETERMINES IF AND HOW THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG SHOULD DEPLOY IN A CRASH BECAUSE IT MAY FATIGUE AND DEVELOP CRACKS WHICH COULD LEAD TO A SYSTEM FAILURE. MY VEHICLE, A 2006 BMW 325XI WITH WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THIS EXACT PROBLEM OCCURRED TO ME IN APRIL OF 2012. THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAT FAILED (CRACKED) AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. THE SERVICE TEAM AT TOWNE BMW IN WILLIAMSVILLE, NY STATED "WE HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THESE" AT THAT TIME. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT SEEMS ODD THAT THIS RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED TO A SELECT NUMBER OF VEHICLES THAT WERE AFFECTED WHEN ADDITIONAL VEHICLES, INCLUDING MINE, WERE AFFECTED BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN ANY OF THE VEHICLE DOORS, OTHER THAN THE DRIVER SIDE, BY USING THE KEY FOB OR MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT ONE OF THE LOCK MECHANISMS WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE SENSOR WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH AS A RESULT BOTH THE LOCK MECHANISM AND SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. WARNING LIGHT THAT AIR BAG IS NOT FUNCTIONING COMES ON. DEALER FOUND A FAULT IN THE SEAT ADJUSTMENT SENSOR (PART OF THE SEAT MOTOR). SAID SEAT MOTOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THIS APPEARS TO BE THE SAME FAULT OTHERS ARE REPORTING THAT WAS COVERED FOR SOME SERIES 3 MODELS BY A NHTSA RECALL. THE DEALER MADE NO MENTION OF A RECALL. I HAVE NOT HAD THE REPAIR DONE. *TT
REMOTE DOOR LOCK NOR UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE VEHICLE WOULD UNLOCK PASSENGER DOORS. PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE PULLING/USING THE DOOR HANDLE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE, CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO DEACTIVATE WITH A PASSENGER OCCUPYING THE SEAT. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) RECALL RANGE. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

AS MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED, MY CAR NOW HAS A YELLOW STEERING WHEEL ICON WITH A LOCK. I HAVE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL A FEW TIMES IN ORDER TO GET THE CAR TO UNLOCK AND START. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AS I HAVE READ THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE UNABLE TO START THE CAR ONCE THE ICON TURNS FROM YELLOW TO RED. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO BMW AND THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED USE OF THIS ELECTRONIC LOCK IN THEIR 2007+ CARS. WHY WON'T BMW ADMIT THAT THEIR IS AN ISSUE AND FIX IT? WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY $500+ TO FIX SOMETHING THEY'VE KNOWN WAS BROKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR

I CALLED BMW NA TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS RECALL AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS LIKE BMW IS DENYING THIS RECALL TO MOST OF THE OWNERS HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT MANY MORE CARS ARE AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE THEN ORIGINALLY DETERMINED BY BMW AND NHTSA. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THREE OF THE DOORS COULD NOT BE OPENED AND ONLY THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR COULD BE OPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,220 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,225. THE DEALER INSTALLED TWO NEW LATCHES AND A HIGHER AMP FUSE. TO THE FRONT DOORS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAT SENSOR MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE AIR BAGS AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT TO BECOME INOPERABLE. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,212.
THE CAR CONSTANTLY DISPLAYS A STEERING WHEEL LOCK ICON WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY DRIVERS AND IT CAN BE FATAL IF THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED RIGHT AWAY. *TR
MY AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INDICATING THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS OFFLINE. I BROUGHT IT INTO MY MECHANIC AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR MAT AND POSSIBLY MY PASSENGER SEAT BELT SENSOR HAD FAILED. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE COST TO REPAIR WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $700-$800 DOLLARS. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION THAT MY VEHICLE MAY BE SUBJECT TO A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V564000. WHEN I CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND BMWNA THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE UNTIL REQUIRED TO DO SO EVEN THOUGH MY AIRBAG SYSTEM HAS ALREADY FAILED AND IT IS SHOWING AS OFFLINE. I'M REGISTERING THIS COMPLAINT TO DOCUMENT THAT THEY ARE NOT ACTIVELY RESOLVING THIS ISSUE. *TR

STEERING WHEEL LOCK WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN RED ON DASH. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006 325I SERIES. BMW HAS DISCONTINUED THIS TYPE OF STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WHEN BUILDING THEIR 2007 VEHICLES BECAUSE ITS AN ISSUE. WHY HASN'T THIS BEEN RECALLED AND WHY HASNT ANYONE TAKEN ACTION ON THE INCIDENT? *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND AFTER HAVING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST PERFORMED, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG DETECTION MAT MALFUNCTIONED AND THE DETECTION MAT DID NOT IDENTIFY A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT. I OWN A 2006 BMW 330XI. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK WHICH PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING. A KNOCKING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHENEVER GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR TIRE ROTATION. WHILE TIRES WERE BEING ROTATED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED A LOT OF PLAY IN THE FRONT WHEELS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE BALL JOINT THAT CONNECTS THE FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS EXTREMELY WORN OUT CAUSING APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES OF PLAY IN THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE RIGHT WHEEL AND NOTICED THAT IT TOO WAS BECOMING VERY WORN. THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING, I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. LEFT FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY TECHNICIAN AT OWNERS COST. OWNER CONTACTED BMW ABOUT A RECALL CONCERNING THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS ON 3 SERIES BMWS, AND THEY SAID MY VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. *TR
