2006 BMW 330I WAS FITTED WITH A STEERING COLUMN EQUIPPED WITH A STEERING LOCK SENSOR THAT IS PRONE TO FAILURE AND MAY RENDER THE CAR SAFE AND/OR INOPERABLE. I HAVE THIS ISSUE CURRENTLY THAT WILL REQUIRE OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, THE STEERING WHEEL MAY LOCK UP DURING VEHICLE USE COMPROMISING THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND/OR FAMILY. THIS IS A CHRONIC AND RECURRING ISSUE THAT BMW IS AWARE OF AND THEY HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO RE-DESIGN THE COLUMNS IN 2007+ VEHICLES. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WILL NOT RECALL THE 2006 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE COLUMNS THAT HAVE THIS DESIGN FLAW AND PROPENSITY FOR FAILURE. I HAVE CALLED BMW NA MULTIPLE TIMES TO DISCUSS BUT THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO ADMIT ANY CULPABILITY OF ADDRESS MY CONCERNS IN A PRODUCTIVE MANNER. I IN SPEAKING WITH MY BMW PARTS ADVISOR AND MECHANIC WHO RUNS A LARGE SCALE SERVICE GARAGE, HE SEES MANY VEHICLES COME IN FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM AND ADVISED THAT IT IS "ONLY A MATTER OF TIME" BEFORE A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS TAKEN AGAINST THEM. IT IS FRUSTRATING THAT MY FAMILY IS AT RISK BECAUSE BMW WILL NOT TAKE AN ETHICAL STANCE ON THIS ISSUE AND ADDRESS THE SHORTCOMINGS IN THE DESIGN OF THE RE-DESIGNED 3-SERIES VEHICLE THAT I HAVE PURCHASED. 2006 WAS THE FIRST YEAR OF THE RE-DESIGN OF THE 3-SERIES AND THAT IS PERHAPS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE PROBLEM (SINCE THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR THAT THIS DESIGN WAS EMPLOYED IN A VEHICLE). PLEASE TAKE THIS COMPLAINT SERIOUSLY AND CHECK THE FACTS BY GOOGLING "E90 STEERING COLUMN PROBLEMS" TO FIND A WEALTH OF INFORMATION ON THE TOPIC INCLUDING MANY OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE AND HAVE HAD THEIR SAFETY AND FINANCES COMPROMISED. IF THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T KEEP THESE LARGE AUTO MANUFACTURERS HONEST IN ADDRESSING THESE DESIGN FLAWS, CONSUMERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO PERPETUAL FINANCIAL AND POSSIBLE PHYSICAL HARM. SOMEONE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE INJURED OR WORSE BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY THREAT.. MOST COLUMNS OPERATE PROPERLY FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
BMW IS AWARE THAT THE CYLINDER BOLT ON THESE MODELS HAS BEEN KNOWN TO FAIL AND ARE NOW BEING MADE OUT OF A DIFFERENT MATERIAL IN NEWER MODELS. WE REQUESTED THAT BMW PAY FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR, BECAUSE WE KNOW THEY ARE AWARE OF IT BEING AN ISSUE AND THEY REFUSED TO DO SO. IT IS DEFINITELY A PART THAT SHOULD BE ON RECALL FOR ALL MODELS USING THIS MATERIAL IN THE CYLINDER HEAD BOLD. UPDATED 04/21/11 *BF
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG ON-OFF LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHETHER THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED OR NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR FOR THE AIR BAG WAS FAULTY AND CAUSING THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V257000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
2006 BMW 325 I - DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY BMW. THEY ARE FAULTY AND BMW SUGGESTS WHEN ONE FAILS YOU REPLACE BOTH FOR OVER $800.00. KNOWN PROBLEM BY BMW BUT REFUSES TO HELP, ONLY CHARGE. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG / SEAT BELT LIGHT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. THERE WERE MULTIPLE NHTSA RECALLS (PE07-045) AND (EA08-001) BUT MY VIN FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE RECALL BECAUSE APPARENTLY I HAVE SPORT SEATS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS SITES ABOUT THIS ISSUE. BMWNA STATED THEY WON'T OFFER TO FIX THE ISSUE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. DEALERS CHARGE $1000+ TO FIX THIS DEFECT. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN FAILING TO START AND DISPLAYING A ELV STEERING COLUMN LOCK. PROBLEM WOULD INTERMITTENTLY COME AND GO. IT HAS NOW RESULTED IN A TOTAL FAILURE AND VEHICLE WILL NOT START OR RESPOND. PROBLEM IS EITHER WITH BMW SOFTWARE OR STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTION WHICH HAS NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY ACKNOWLEDGED BY BMW SO THEY WON'T WARRANTY PROBLEM. *JS
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ERROR CONSISTENT WITH FRONT PASSENGER SEAT PRESSURE MAT RECALL NOTICE. BMW ONLINE RECALL CHECK REVEALED THAT THIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL EITHER. BMW REFUSED TO REPLACE AND WILL NOT TELL ME IF THE AIR BAG WILL OR WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THE FRONT PASSENGER-SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTOR FAILED, RESULTING IN THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT TURNING ON, WARNING OF AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. INITIALLY, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ONLY TURNED ON WHEN A PASSENGER OCCUPIED THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, BUT LATER IT REMAINED ON REGARDLESS, MOST OF THE TIME. HAD THE PASSENGER-SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTOR REPLACED, AND THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. NOTE THAT THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS A BMW RECALL, EXCEPT THAT I WAS TOLD BY BMW THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED. *TR
MY 2006 BMW 325I FRONT PASSENGER SPORT SEAT WAS DIAGNOSED BY DEALER TO HAVE A CRACKED FRONT SEAT SENSOR MAT OF THE AIR BAG PROTECTION SYSTEM. THIS DEFECT CAUSES THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAGS TO BE DEACTIVATED & THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP TO ILLUMINATE. THIS SITUATION COULD CAUSE THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG TO BE DEACTIVATED & NOT DEPLOY IN AN EMERGENCY. THEREFORE NOT PROTECTING THE PASSENGER. THIS DEFECT IS A KNOWN DEFECT & IS COVERED BY THE NHTSHA CAMPAIGN #: 08V384000. BMW STATED THAT MY VIN # [XXX] WAS NOT PART OF THE 200,000+ VEHICLES RECALLED. CERTIFIED MECHANICS VERIFIED THE DETAILS OF THE RECALL & THE FAULTS SHOWN ON THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK OF THE AIR BAG PROTECTION SYSTEM TO BE THE SAME. I AM ASKING THAT NHTSA ISSUE A LETTER DIRECTING THAT MY VEHICLE VIN BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SO THAT THE SYSTEM CAN BE RESTORED & THE WARRANTY BE EXTENDED AS DIRECTED IN THE BMW RECALL OF 2006 3 SERIES SPORT SEATS. THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WHETHER THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS OCCUPIED OR NOT. THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER THEN ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A FRACTURE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT THAT WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD OFFER NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 3 SERIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH OF THE AIR BAG ON-OFF LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR MAT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WAS MADE AWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC FAILURE BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL: NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER - 08V384 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL), THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE LABOR BUT WOULD PAY FOR THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 49,800.
RECENTLY MY 2006 BMW 325I'S AIRBAG AND SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE PROBLEM STARTED SHORTLY (ONE MONTH) AFTER IT CAME OFF THE FACTORY WARRANTY. IT WAS INTERMITTENT AND I WAS EXTREMELY BUSY SO I DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THERE WAS A MANUFACTURERS "VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN" I NEVER RECEIVED NOTICE BUT NOTICED THE RECALL NOTICED THE RECALL EA08-001 MENTIONED CARS WITH SPORT SEATS AS PART OF THE PROBLEM. I CALLED BMW NA AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN DID NOT QUALIFY. OVER TIME THE PROBLEM WORSENED AD EVENTUALLY LAST MONTH THE LIGHTS JUST STAYED ON. AGAIN CALLING BMW NA THEY SUGGESTED I VISIT MY DEALER TO HOOK UP THE CAR TO THEIR DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE SEAT MAT SENSOR WAS THE PROBLEM AND REPLACED IT FOR A TOTAL OF $990. I CONTACTED BMW INFORMING THEM THAT THE SEAT SENSOR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE TERMS OF THE RECALL AND I OFFERED TO PAY FOR PARTS IF BMW WOULD PAY FOR LABOR. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD INFORM ME OF THE CORPORATION'S DECISION IN 5 BUSINESS DAYS IF THEY WOULD COMPENSATE ME FOR THE REPAIR DUE TO MY VEHICLES LOW MILEAGE. I WAS JUST INFORMED TODAY THEY WOULD NOT COMPENSATE ME AT ALL TODAY DUE TO MY PAYMENT AFTER THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THEY ALSO ADDED THAT THEY ALMOST NEVER COMPENSATE AFTER SERVICES ARE PAYED. I BELIEVE THAT SINCE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY DETECTION MAT DISABLES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY SYSTEM AS ACKNOWLEDGED BY BMW NHSTA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V-384 AND CONFIRMED BY THE NHTSA ENGINEERING ANALYSIS EA08-001. I BELIEVE THAT BMW IS NOT CONFORMING TO THE INTENT OF THIS RECALL PROGRAM AND IS LIMITING THEIR LIABILITIES DUE TO DEFECTIVE COMPONENTS . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS OFF. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A SECOND AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS REPLACED USING THE SAME REMEDY AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, DESPITE THE VEHICLE BEING EXCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 10/05/11

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330 CI. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING A RIGHT TURN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL EXHIBITED AN UNUSUAL CLICKING NOISE AND THE LEFT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL FRACTURED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ROD HAD SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS STRUCTURAL DAMAGE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE TRANSMISSION PAN. THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A TICKING SOUND AND JERKED WHEN IT WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE PAN WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND HAD A TENDENCY TO BECOME WARPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM ABOVE THE PAN FROM THE ENGINE AS WELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 66,000.
WENT TO UNLOCK DOORS IN 2006 BMW 325I AND THERE WAS A RAPID CLICKING SOUND IN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THE POWER LOCKS FAILED TO RESPOND AFTERWARDS AND BOTH FRONT DOORS REMAINED LOCKED. THE FOB, NOR THE INTERNAL UNLOCK BUTTON WOULD ALLOW THE DOORS TO BE UNLOCKED AND ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE DOORS FROM THE INSIDE DID NOT WORK EITHER. ONLY THE DRIVER'S DOOR CAN BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED BY PHYSICAL KEY, PULLING THE HANDLE FROM THE INSIDE ALSO DID NOT OPEN THE DOOR. *TR
FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT STAY ON EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER IS SEATED IN CAR. BMW DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE 2008 RECALL, BUT MY MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I SPOKE WITH THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF BMW WHO SAYS THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE SINCE MY CAR WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. THEY SAID IT IS A DIFFERENT PART THAT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MAT NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I FEEL THAT SINCE MY CAR HAS THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM, EVEN IF IT IS A DIFFERENT PART, IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY BMW WITHOUT COST TO ME.
THIS IS IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V-384. I CALLED BMW ABOUT HIS RECALL AND THEY STATED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING AND MULTIPLE OTHERS ARE HAVING IS FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, CONDITION, AND DESCRIPTION AS CALLED OUT IN CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V-384. I DID MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT BMW MAY NOT HAVE THE AFFECTED VEHICLES LOADED CORRECTLY IN THEIR SYSTEM. FOR EXAMPLE THEY TELL YOU THAT THE SPORT SEAT IS NOT COVERED (WHICH I HAVE), BUT IF YOU READ THE LETTERS FROM BMW TO NHTSA, MANY SPORT SEATS ARE COVERED. I SUSPECT THE DATABASE BMW IS USING TO TELL IF A CAR IS COVERED OR NOT MAY NOT BE ACCURATE COMPARED TO THE VEHICLE CATEGORIES LISTED IN THE NHTSA FILINGS. *TR
FAILURE OF STEERING COLUMN LOCK, CAUSING INABILITY TO RESTART AUTOMOBILE INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE READ THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH EARLY 2006 330I MODELS, BUT A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED. MY CAR HAS VERY LOW MILES, SO IT WAS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW. BMW OFFERED TO SUPPLY THE PARTS FOR FREE, HOWEVER I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY-RELATED ISSUE AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN 100% COVERED BY BMW AS A RECALL AND HANDLED PROACTIVELY BY THE COMPANY. *TR
SRS AIRBAG SENSOR FOR 2006 BMW 3 SERIES VIN [XXX] NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THOUGHT IT WOULD BE REPAIRED FOR FREE UNDER RECALL 08V384000 BUT DEALER SAID VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL AND MADE OWNER RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR COSTS. AN INITIAL ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE FUSE #57 WITH A 20A FUSE OVER THE ORIGINAL BLOWN 15A FUSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 BMW 325I. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS BURNING OUT VERY QUICKLY. NOW THE LIGHTING ON THE LEFT SIDE (HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS) SOMETIMES DO NOT COME ON, AND SOMETIMES REMAIN ON AFTER BEING TURNED OFF. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN AS THIS GIVES NO WARNING BEFOREHAND. IT IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR AND SHE IS CURRENTLY LIVING AWAY AT COLLEGE. *TR
IBS SENSOR WITH NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE FAILED AND CAR WOULD NOT START. THE IBS SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE CAR. *TR
I HAVE A BMW 320D. A FEW DAYS AGO MY WIFE WAS OUT SOMEWHERE AND SHE LOCKED THE CAR IT WEREN'T LOCKING SO SHE OPENED THE DOOR AND THEN PRESS LOCK, IT LOCKED. WHEN SHE CAME BACK SHE WAS TRYING TO UNLOCK IT BUT IT WEREN'T UNLOCKING. SHE HAD TO USE THE TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE FOB AND OPEN IT MANUALLY, THEN THE ALARM STARTED GOING OFF SO SHE HAD TO TURN THE CAR ON SO IT WOULD STOP. NOW ONLY THE DRIVERS SIDE OPENS BUT YOU HAVE TO OPEN IT MANUALLY WITH THE KEY, HE REST WON'T OPEN OR CLOSE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE BMW GARAGE AND THEY SAID IT WILL COST AROUND 600 TO REPLACE THE LATCHES. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND YOU DON'T EXPECT THAT TO HAPPEN TO A 27,000 CAR AFTER ONLY HAVING IT FOR 3 YEARS. ALSO IF THEIR EVER WAS AN ACCIDENT AND THE DOOR LATCHES STOPPED WORKING NO ONE WOULD BE ABLE TO GET OUT, THEY WOULD ALL HAVE TO RUSH OUT THROUGH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. *TR

I WAS IN MY CAR (BMW 325I - 2006) WITH TWO KIDS, A TODDLER AND A NEWBORN. I LOCKED THE DOOR AND WINDOW BECAUSE MY TODDLER WANTED TO OPEN THE DOOR.
