DOORS WILL NOT UNLOCK FROM THE INSIDE. OCCUPANTS ARE LOCKED IN VEHICLE. BLOWN FUSE (NO 57) CAUSED BY AMPERAGE SPIKE IN ONE OF THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. SPIKE IS DUE TO CONTAMINATION WITH SILICONE. BMW HAS ISSUED A SIB ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 BMW 325I SEDAN WITH SPORTS SEATS THAT FAILED THE SEATBELT WARNING SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SEAT DUE TO A DEFECTIVE "OCCUPANCY SENSOR." THIS IS EXACTLY THE ISSUE AS OUTLINED IN ACTION NUMBER EA08001 BUT BECAUSE THE CARS BUILD DATE WAS LATER THAN STATED IN THE RECALL IS NOT COVERED. THE PROBLEM EXISTS IN ALL 2006 CARS AND WAS NOT RESOLVED BY THE MANUFACTURER. COST WAS $1,000 FOR REPLACEMENT AND 3 DAYS AT BMW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK NEITHER FROM THE INSIDE NOR THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE A REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,333 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,443.
I AM AN OWNER OF A 2006 BMW 325I WITH APPROXIMATELY 70K MILES. JUST RECENTLY, I NOTED THAT WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING FAILURE OF THE AIR BAG/SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE CODE WAS TIED TO AN INOPERABLE PASSENGER DETECTION MAT. HE WENT ON TO INDICATE THAT THERE WAS A DOCUMENTED RECALL/WARRANTY EXTENSION RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL BMW DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL/WARRANTY DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE AS IT WAS MANUFACTURED AFTER NOVEMBER 30TH, 2005. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT AS IT IS EVIDENT THAT THE SCOPE OF THEIR RECALL WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO COVER ALL CARS WITH THIS ISSUE, AS I HAVE NOTED MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE. I FEEL IT IS INCUMBENT UPON NHTSA TO PUSH FOR EXPANSION OF THIS REMEDY AS BMW IS CLEARLY DERELICT IN ITS OBLIGATION TO ADDRESS SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUES WITH ITS PRODUCTS. *TR
FAILURE OF FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ON 2006 BMW 330I. SMALL CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED IN THE SENSOR MAT WITHIN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE CRACKS HAVE DEACTIVATED THE AIRBAG, WHICH AFFECT THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS IN THE EVENT OF A SEVERE ACCIDENT. NO UNDUE EXTERNAL FORCE HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THE SEAT. THERE HAVE BEEN NO COLLISIONS, ETC. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER 4 YEARS, APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES. A PREVIOUS RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL (08V384000); HOWEVER IT DOES NOT APPLY TO MY VIN NUMBER. BMW IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE AND REPAIR PARTS DUE TO DEFECTS IN PARTS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP. *TR
DAMAGED AIRBAG SENSOR MAT ON FRONT PASSENGER SEAT THAT DISABLES THE AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, THAT BMW ONLY RECALLED 200,000 IN 2008. VERY COSTLY AND DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 325I AND MY AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT WARNING LIT UP - I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST IT WAS THE AIRBAG SENSOR THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - OVER $1000. THERE IS A RECALL LISTED FOR MY YEAR AND MODEL BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I CALLED BMW USA AND THE NHTSA - THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED WHEN I HAVE THE MODEL AND YEAR LISTED IN THE RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 BMW 325I. THE CAR HAS AUTOMATIC LOCKS THAT CAN BE TRIGGERED WITH A REMOTE KEY OR INSIDE THE CAR WITH A LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON IN THE DASHBOARD. THE "UNLOCK" FEATURE HAS FAILED AND I AM UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE CAR WITH EITHER THE REMOTE OR THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON IN THE DASHBOARD. IN ADDITION, THE ONLY DOOR THAT CAN BE UNLOCKED FROM EITHER INSIDE THE CAR OR OUTSIDE THE CAR IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT DOOR. ALL THE OTHER PASSENGER DOORS ARE LOCKED AND CANNOT BE UNLOCKED OR OPENED. THIS OBVIOUSLY CREATES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE GAS TANK IS ALSO LOCKED WHEN THIS HAPPENS, HOWEVER, THIS CAN BE OVERCOME THROUGH THE MANUAL GAS TANK RELEASE IN THE TRUNK. THE LOCK FAILURE MUST BE REMEDIED WITH SOME TYPE OF REPAIR, EITHER OF A FUSE OR A REPAIR OF THE ACTUATORS. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 330XI (NA). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PAINT ON THE LEATHER WAS PEELING ON THE DOOR HANDLES, GEAR SHIFTER, CENTER CONSOLE AND THE RADIO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO TOLD HIM TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER; THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALER TO TAKE PICTURES AND THEY WOULD HAVE A REGIONAL MANAGER CONTACT HIM. THE MANAGER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE PARTS BUT NOT THE LABOR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,200.
2006 BMW 330XI WIPER FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 80 DURING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM, THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING AND FAILED IN FIXED POSITION. HAD TO PULL OVER CAR...SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED AND THEY WORKED AGAIN, BUT INTERMITTENT FEATURE FAILED. WIPERS WOULD NOT RESPOND BEFORE CAR SHUTDOWN/RESTART. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER I08V384000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 52,000.
2006 BMW 325I STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE OCCURRED IN MAY 2007. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED MAY 2007. JULY 2010 CAR MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. AUG 2010 GOT WHEEL LOCK SYMBOL AGAIN---STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILING AGAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME. TOOK CAR TO DEALER. DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME $130.00 JUST TO CHECK IT OUT--NOT INCLUDING REPAIRS. I THINK THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE A RECALL. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006 325I SERIES. *TR
BMW DOORS WILL NOT OPEN WHEN LOCKED IF ELECTRICAL POWER IS LOST. IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, BMW HAS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE THAT SEPARATES THE BATTERY FROM THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ONCE POWER IS LOST, THE DOOR HANDLES WILL NOT OPERATE TO OPEN LOCKED DOORS AND THE ELECTRICAL WINDOWS WILL NOT WORK TRAPPING PASSENGERS INSIDE. I DISCOVERED THIS WHEN A FUSE, #52 ON A 2006 325I, BLEW AND THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. LUCKILY ONE DOOR WAS UNLOCKED IN THE BACK AND MY DAUGHTER HAD TO CLIMB INTO THE BACK SEAT TO GET OUT. ADVISE FROM DEALERSHIP WAS TO CARRY A DEVICE IN THE CAR THE BREAK OUT THE WINDOW IN CASE OF ACCIDENT. *TR

THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V384000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIRBAG SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75000.

THE DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2006 BMW 325XI ALL FAILED AT ONCE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE FRONT PASSENGER AND BOTH REAR DOORS DO NOT UNLOCK AT ALL, EITHER ELECTRONICALLY OR MANUALLY. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL OPEN WITH THE KEY AND IS THE ONLY ONE, SO FAR, THAT CAN BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. HAD PASSENGERS BEEN IN THE CAR AND THE CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 BMW 3-SERIES (325XI SPORTS WAGON), WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT, YESTERDAY. I HEARD SOMETHING BREAK AND FELT LIKE MY CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. MY MECHANIC SAID THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ON PASSENGER REAR WHEEL SNAPPED. IF I WAS DRIVING FAST I COULD HAVE CRASHED. *TR

THE DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING DUE TO WELL KNOWN BY BMW FAULTY DOOR ACTUATORS. LEFT SIDE GOT LOCKED, WHILE RIGHT SIDE KEPT BEING UNLOCKED. THE WORST PART IS THAT I COULD NOT CLOSE THE LOCKED PASSENGER DOOR, SO WE HAD TO "BELT IT" TO THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR TO EB ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. SHAME ON BMW FOR VERY POOR DESIGN W/O ANY MECHANICAL WAY OF LOCKING/UNLOCKING. VERY UNSAFE IT HAPPENS AT COLLISION. *TR
PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR MALFUNCTION THAT DISABLES THE AIRBAGS IN 2006 E90 BMW 3 SERIES SEDAN. THIS MALFUNCTIONING SENSOR COULD CAUSE GRAVE BODILY INJURY OR DEATH. BMW RECALLED PREVIOUS YEARS SENSORS BUT HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE IN LATER MODELS. SOME PEOPLE ARE BYPASSING THE SENSOR IN THERE VEHICLES AND ARE PLACING UNKNOWING SUBSEQUENT OWNERS CHILDREN AT RISK OF AIRBAG INJURY. BMW FORUMS ALL HAVE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAFETY CONCERNS NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE AND FORCE A RECALL OF THE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR AS IT DID IN SOME EARLIER 2006 BMWS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

I OWN A 2006 BMW 325I. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. MY PROBLEM IS DESCRIBED ON THE NHTSA RECALL ID 08V384000 (AIR BAGS: FRONTAL). THE MILEAGE IS APPROX 43,000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. MY CAR FALLS UNDER THE CRITERIA NOTED ON 08V-384 RECALL NOTIFICATION. BMW SAYS MY VIN DOESN'T QUALIFY, HOWEVER MY CAR STILL OBVIOUSLY HAS A PROBLEM, AND BMW IS IN DENIAL. I'VE ALSO NOTED OTHER COMPLAINTS ON SAFETYCAR.GOV WITH SIMILAR BMW INTERACTIONS. BMW IS AVOIDING RESPONSIBILITY, AND THE NHTSA NEEDS TO DO MORE TO PROTECT OUR SAFETY. *TR

THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V384000 -AIR BAGS: FRONTAL) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND DID NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
BMW DOOR LOCKS RANDOMLY AND AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED. THIS IS ONE WEEK AFTER A SERVICE PERFORMED AT THE DEALER FOR AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. LOCKS WOULD NOT DISENGAGE EXCEPT MANUALLY WITH EMERGENCY KEY (FROM OUTSIDE). DRIVER'S DOOR IS THE ONLY DOOR THAT WILL OPEN - OTHERS ARE INOPERABLE. FUEL FILLER CAP WILL ALSO NOT OPEN. HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS SHOULD BE RESEARCHED BY BMW AND REMEDIED AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER - THIS IS DEFINITELY AN INCONVENIENCE AND COULD BE DANGEROUS OR POTENTIALLY FATAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325XI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE CONCERNING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND STATED THAT THE INDEPENDENT BATTERY SYSTEM CORE HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE UNTIL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CAME OUT TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
FAILURE OF DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS IN 2006 BMW 330I. INSIDE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON WOULD NOT FUNCTION, REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY WOULD NOT UNLOCK ANY DOORS, KEY WOULD UNLOCK DRIVER FRONT DOOR, GAS DOOR COULD NOT OPEN, NO WAY TO UNLOCK/OPEN PASSENGER FRONT/REAR OR DRIVER REAR DOORS EVEN USING INSIDE HANDLES. CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR AND HAD TO EXIT EITHER THROUGH THE DRIVER FRONT DOOR OR THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW. SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE PREVENTING OR DELAYING EGRESS OF PASSENGERS. *TR

SEPT 2010 TURN SIGNAL OUT AGAIN 2 MONTHS LATER. ADVISED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HAVE READ OTHER POSTING ONLINE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALER REFUSES TO FIX ASK FOR OUT OF POCKET OF $ 500+ TO CORRECT PROBLEM . *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 BMW 325I. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT AND OCCUPANTS ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE LOCKED DOORS. HOWEVER, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATED DOOR LOCK MECHANISM WAS THE ONLY FUNCTIONING DEVICE IN THE VEHICLE THAT WOULD ALLOW THE DOOR TO UNLOCK. THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS EXITED FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A DEFECTIVE DOOR LATCH. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE REPAIR COST. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN RELATED TO THE DEFECT. THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF THE SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,200.
MY VEHICLE HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT BMW RECALLED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN# 08V384000. THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG SEAT MAT HAS CRACKED. *TR THIS DEFECT HAS ALREADY BEEN VERIFIED BY AN AUTHORIZED BMW DEALER AT MY OWN COST. BUT FOR SOME REASON, MY VEHICLE IN NOT ONE OF THE 200,000 VEHICLES IN THE OFFICIAL RECALL. SO BMW REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH BMW NA BUT THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS NOW DISABLED PERMANENTLY BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT.

THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS TO NHTSA ID #08V384000. THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP, SEAT BELT LAMP AND THE PASSENGER AIR BAG "ON-OFF" LAMP WILL NOT TURN OFF . I CONTACTED BMW VIA THE PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED BY YOUR DEPARTMENT AND ALSO VISITED MY LOCAL BMW DEALER AND THEY BOTH SAY THAT MY CAR DOESN'T FALL UNDER SAID RECALL. MY CAR IS A BMW 2006 330I WITH SPORTS SEATS, WHICH IS ONE OF THE CARS LISTED AS BEING DEFECTIVE BY YOUR DEPARTMENT. HOWEVER, BMW STATED THAT THE RECALL IS FOR A SPECIFIC NUMBER OF AIRBAG SENSOR MATTS THAT WERE DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING AND THAT MY CAR'S MATT WAS NOT PART OF THIS BATCH. SINCE MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THOSE UNDER THE RECALL, AND IS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE CARS LISTED IN YOUR REPORT, IT'S SAFE TO SAY THAT THE FAULTY AIRBAG SENSOR ISSUE GOES BEYOND JUST THE BATCH BMW IS CLAIMING WERE DAMAGED. EVEN IF THIS IS TRUE, AND THAT SPECIFIC BATCH OF AIR BAG SENSORS WERE DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING, THEN WHAT'S TO SAY THAT MY AIR BAG SENSOR WASN'T ALSO DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING EVEN IF IT WAS PART OF ANOTHER BATCH. THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION, HOWEVER, WOULD INDICATE THAT THE SENSORS BEING DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING IS FALSE AND THAT THERE IS IN FACT A FLAW WITH THE SENSOR ITSELF. THIS IS EVIDENT IN THE FACT THAT BMW PRODUCED AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE SENSOR AND THAT MY SENSOR THOUGH NOT PART OF THE SO CALLED DAMAGED BATCH IS ALSO EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS. IF THE CAUSE OF THE FAULTY SENSORS WERE DUE TO BEING DAMAGED DURING SHIPPING THEN WHY NEED TO CREATE AN UPDATED VERSION. THE LOGICAL THING TO DO WOULD BE TO ENSURE THE SAFE DELIVERY OF THE SENSORS, NOT CREATE A NEW VERSION. I'VE OWNED MANY VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME FEATURE AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. BMW CLAIMING THAT THE SYMPTOMS OF MY SENSOR HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE DAMAGED BATCH IS JUST A COINCIDENCE IS A FAR CRY. AT THE VERY LEAST A NEW INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE DONE. THANK YOU.

I CURRENTLY OWN A 2006 325I BMW. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH A OCCUPANCY SENSOR MAT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD COST $1000 TO BE FIXED. I LATER LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT EARLIER MODELS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WERE RECALLED. THE BMW DEALERSHIP STILL WILL NOT FIX MY CAR BECAUSE IT'S NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I ASKED IF MY AIRBAGS WILL DEPLOY IF THE CAR IS WRECKED AND THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME "MAYBE". MAYBE ISN'T THE ANSWER I'M LOOKING FOR BECAUSE I DO HAVE PASSENGERS IN MY CAR AND I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY. THIS VEHICLE HAS A MAGNESIUM ENGINE BLOCK, AND THEREFORE USES ALUMINUM BOLTS TO FASTEN THE HEAD AND THE VALVE COVER TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. WITH NORMAL DRIVING, MULTIPLE CYLINDER HEAD AND VALVE COVER BOLTS SPONTANEOUSLY SNAP OFF. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DISRUPT THE TIMING CHAIN AND LOSS OF COMPRESSION, LEADING TO CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE.
IN MY 2006 BMW 325XI, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT, THE SEATBELT RESTRAINT WARNING LIGHT, AND THE OVERHEAD PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT ARE SOMETIMES ALL ON EVEN IF AN ADULT IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT'S DESCRIBED IN THE PASSENGER MAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT BMW SAYS THE RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY IS VIN SPECIFIC AND MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO THE BMW DEALER AND PAID A $130 DIAGNOSIS FEE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PASSENGER MAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR AN ADDITIONAL $1350. I DECLINED AND MY SERVICE ADVISOR OFFERED ME A $130 DISCOUNT. I DECLINED THAT TOO. BMW SHOULD FIX FOR THIS FOR NO CHARGE BECAUSE A) IT'S THE SAME PROBLEM AS IN THE RECALL/EXTENDED, AND B) IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V564000 (AIR BAGS) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL DEFECT. AFTER A RECALL ON MY (SPORT) SEATS WAS PERFORMED BY THE DEALER, THE SEATBELT WARNING CHIME SOUNDS WHEN THERE IS NO ONE OR NOTHING IN THE SEAT. IT NEVER DID THIS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CHIME TO STOP IS TO BUCKLE THE PASSENGER BELT. *TR

NUMBER OF DEATHS? NONE YET, BUT TBD FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION. 2006 BMW 325I DOORS LOCKS FAIL TO OPEN, AND ALL INTERIOR DOOR LATCHES ARE INOPERATIVE. ALL DOORS ARE INOPERATIVE IF ONE FUSE (#57) FAILS OR IF THE BATTERY FAILS. THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN ABOUT SAFETY. IF THERE IS A CRASH OR FIRE, PEOPLE CAN DIE INSIDE THE VEHICLE IF THE DOORS CANNOT BE OPENED. WHEN THIS FUSE FAILS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES DON'T FUNCTION. THE ONLY WAY TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THE VEHICLE IS TO REMOVE THE HIDDEN KEY FROM THE FOB, OPEN THE DRIVER'S WINDOW AND UNLOCK THE DRIVER'S DOOR. THAT WILL ALLOW THE DRIVER'S DOOR TO OPEN BUT NONE OF THE OTHER DOORS WILL OPEN. IS THIS ALLOWABLE UNDER NHTSA SAFETY REGULATIONS? I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT IT IS. THIS IS NOT AN OBSCURE OCCURRENCE EITHER. IT HAS HAPPENED TO MY CAR A FEW TIMES AND HAS BEEN REPORTED BY MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON BMW OWNER'S FORUMS AND ON NHTSA COMPLAINT FORMS.
