1.) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: My motor/engine gave out on me. No the vehicle is not available due to the fact that it was towed and too expensive for me to take out of the impound. My vehicle was then taken from me since I couldn’t pay to have it taken out ! 2.) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? ANSWER: I was put at risk by being broken down on the side of the turnpike/highway in my state for over an hour without a cell phone to call for help. I had no choice but to accept a ride from a stranger, putting my life at jeopardy for a second time 3.) Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? ANSWER: Im not familiar with the details of this question. But yes the dealer was made aware 4.) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? ANSWER: The car was brought to a bmw dealership where nothing was done to resolve the problem Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? ANSWER: YES
I WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN SMOKE BEGAN ARISING FROM MY RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND WAS FOLLOWED BY FLAMES...I HAD HAD MY CAR IN FOR AC MALFUNCTIONING EARLIER IN THE THE SUMMER AND ASKED ABOUT THE RECALL RELATIVE TO MOTOR BLOWER WIRING..THEY SAID AT BMW NOT THE PROBLEM AND NO FIX YET AVAILABLE ..MY CAR WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED...I HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE
TOO LONG TO REMEDY
THERE'S BEEN A RECALL ON THE PARTS THAT CONTROL THE FLOW OR SPEED OF THE AC UNIT IN THE CAR, ALSO THE AIRFLOW. THERE'S SEVERAL OTHER RECALLS ON THIS CAR. A NOTICE WAS ORIGINALLY SENT OUT TO ME IN NOVEMBER OF 2017. IT'S NOW AUGUST OF 2018 AND ANOTHER NOTICE HAS NOT BEEN SENT OUT. I'VE REACHED OUT TO BMW ON THIS ISSUE WAS SIMPLY TOLD THAT IF SMOKE OR A FIRE STARTS IN MY CAR, TO PULL OVER AND DIAL 911. THE FACT I CAN'T USE MY AC IN ARIZONA IS OUT OF CONTROL, IT'S EXTREMELY HOT HERE. EARLIER IN THE YEAR IT WAS OKAY SINCE IT WAS COOLER BUT NOW TEMPS ARE REACHING OVER 110 DEGREES. I DID FIND THE PART BUT ALSO ASKED FOR A REIMBURSEMENT IF I WERE TO PURCHASE IT AND WAS TOLD I'D STILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR A SECOND LETTER. WHY SHOULD I NEED TO WAIT FOR A SECOND LETTER FOR SOMETHING THERE'S A RECALL ON? ESPECIALLY SOMETHING THAT CAN PUT MYSELF OR CHILD IN DAMAGE OR OTHER PEOPLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER (ZT MOTORS OF FORT WALTON BEACH, 1000 N BEAL PKWY NW, FORT WALTON BEACH, FL 32547, (850) 863-2167) SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
CAR IN GARAGE INSERTED KEY CAR DEAD. NOTHING WORKED. ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS DOWN. UNABLE TO OPEN TRUNK TO CHECK BATTERY.CALLED WRECKER SERVICE JUMP STARTED CAR INSTANTLY FROM UNDER HOOD.MECHANIC CHECKED CAR NO PROBLEMS FOUND. FOUND: PROBLEM BMW RECALL SAFETY UK . EXACT SAME PROBLEM SAYS CAR CAN SHUT DOWN IN MOTION.

DUE TO HOT WEATHER CONDITION (>85F), IF THE CAR PARKS OUTSIDE MORE THAN 4 HOURS, THEN GO TO VEHICLE TO START VEHICLE, BOTH SEAT BELT LIGHT AND PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT ARE ON EVEN DURING DRIVING. BUT, AFTER PARKING VEHICLE OVERNIGHT OR WEATHER BELOW 70F, THERE IS NO ISSUE AT ALL. IT SEEMS LIKE THE SENSORS TO SENSITIVE THE HOT TEMPERATURE. IT IS SAFETY CRITICAL ISSUE AND HAD TO FIND OUT IN DEALER. BMW SAID TO ME IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS SENSOR SPECIFICATION ISSUE WHICH IS NOT HANDLE HIGH TEMPERATURE. BMW SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE!

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
RECALL CAMPAIGN NO 17V-683: PCV VALVE HEATER AND 17V-676: BLOWER MOTOR WIRING. THE NEW RECALL BMW CALL STALLING WHILE DRIVING. CAR SHUTS OFF. I TOOK MY BMW TO SOUTH MOTORS BMW WAS DUE TO THE 3 RECALLS CAUSE BY THE MANUFACTURES DEFECT. THE LAST RECALL WAS RISK OF ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLING(STOPPING) WHILE DRIVING WHICH HAPPEN TO ME WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WITH CHILDREN IN THE CAR. WE MET WITH A BMW SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE SAID THAT SOUTH MOTORS BMW SERVICE MORE THAN 100 BMW SINCE LAST YEAR AND THEY ARE ONLY FIXING THE BMW'S AS A COURTESY. HE THAN STATED HE HAD TO ORDER A COUPLE OF PARTS FOR THE RECALL, TO GIVE HIM A COUPLE OF DAYS. HE CALLED THE VERY NEXT DAY AND SAID THE PARTS WERE IN AND ADVISE THAT HE HAVE TO CHARGE A FEE BECAUSE HIS TECHNICIAN HAVE TO GET PAID. HE GAVE US A PRICE OF MORE THAN $3,000 AND SAID THIS IS NOTHING, WE CHARGE THE LAST CUSTOMER FOR HER BMW $12,000 WE ARE GIVING YOU A GOOD PRICE. IT GETS WORSE THEY KEPT MY BMW FOR ANOTHER 5 DAYS, SMASH THE FRONT OF MY BMW. THE MANAGER STATED HE IS NOT SURE WHO SMASH THE FRONT OF MY BMW, HE SAID ABOUT 7 WORKERS WERE DRIVING MY CAR WHILE IT WAS BEING SERVICE FOR THE RECALLS. I WAS IN TEARS, HE LOOKED AT ME AND SAID IT'S JUST A CAR.
IN NOVEMBER 2017, BMW SENT ME LETTERS REGARDING POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARDS DUE TO DEFECTS OF THE BLOWER MOTOR WIRING AND THE PCV VALVE HEATER (RECALL NUMBERS 17V-676 AND 17V-683). NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND NO REPAIR OFFERED TO CORRECT POSSIBLE DEFECTS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED NO PROBLEM RELATED TO THESE PARTS. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE SERIOUS NATURE OF THESE ISSUES, BMW SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL AND REPAIR AFFECTED CARS PROMPTLY.
The engine stalled multiple times driving on the highway. When I turn off the car and turn on the car, it would go back to normal. I researched this is a problem for 335d, I think im experiencing the same problem, not sure why 335i is not included in the recall list. This happened multiple times for me and I ignored it at that time, other person has also experienced the same issue when he was driving my car. Now the electrical battery power is completely shut off and there is no recall, this really bothers me.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO BMW OF MOUNTAIN VIEW (150 E EL CAMINO REAL, MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA 94040, 650-943-1000) WHO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V314000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 13V044000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL CAMPAIGN TO PROVIDE A REMEDY AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
DRIVERS SEAT BELT BUTTON WILL NOT RESET. SEAT BELT WILL NOT ENGAGE AS RELEASE BUTTON REMAINS MASHED IN AND WILL NOT LOCK. CAR DINGS THAT DRIVER IS DRIVING WITHOUT A SEAT BELT TO ALERT.
FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL, I HAVE CONSTANTLY BEEN TOLD BY MIDTOWN (HOUSTON) BMW THAT THE REPLACEMENTS ARE UNAVAILABLE. THIS HAS BEE FOR TWO YEARS NOW. 2 - ON THE NEW RECALL, THE WIRING RECALL, I HAVE YET TO BE CONTACTED BY BMW OR MY LOCAL MIDTOWN BMW DEALERSHIP
OVER THE COURSE OF THREE DAYS, WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 BMW 328I ON A HIGHWAY AT A RATE OF SPEED OF 65-70 MPH, THE MOTOR STALLED, SHUT OFF, DIED, LOST POWER CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO GET TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE BY FORWARD MOMENTUM ALONE. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD HAVE NO IDEA THAT MY CAR HAS NO POWER. AFTER SITTING FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES, I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AS THOUGH NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. I CALLED MY BMW DEALER AND AM BRINGING IT THERE TOMORROW. HE SAID THAT THE REPAIRS MAY BE COVERED AND THAT THEY WOULD KNOW BETTER AFTER LOOKING AT THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THERE MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH IT. THE CAR ONLY HAS DIED WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

UPON OPENING THE TRUNK, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TRUNK LIGHT WAS BURNED OUT AND A STRONG BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V676000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,237.
BLOWER MOTOR RECALL: MY CAR WAS TAKEN IN BY BMW THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY FOR THE RECALL, OR SO I THOUGHT. THE PERSON I TALKED TO IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ALERTED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT MY CAR WAS UNDER IT. A WEEK OF THEM HAVING IT GOES BY AND THE TECH I TALK TO TELLS ME THAT, NO MY CAR WASNT PART OF IT AND I HAD OTHER ISSUES THAT THEY QUOTED ME FOR BUT COULDNT DIRECTLY SAY HOW THEY CONCLUDED THEY WERE FAULTY, HIS NAME WAS CARLOS UP AT CLASSIC BMW IN WILLOUGHBY HILLS, OH. I THEN TELL THE SA I REFUSE TO TALK TO THAT TECH BECAUSE HE DOESNT SEEM TO HAVE PROPER KNOWLEDGE ON THE CAR ID LIKE TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE ELSE. THE SA THEN CONFIRMS THAT MY CAR IS UNDER RECALL BUT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY DONT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE SERVICING OR GETTING PARTS FOR IT. I ASKED IF THEY COULD CHECK IT TO MAKE SURE ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MINE AND HE TELLS ME THAT BECAUSE THEY WONT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET REIMBURSED FOR THE LABOR JUST TO LOOK AT IT, THAT THEY COULDNT DO ANYTHING. THEY LET ME DRIVE MY CAR OFF THE LOT WITH AN SES LIGHT ON, NOT CHECKING MY RECALL, MY BLOWER MOTOR FAN DOESNT EVEN WORK PROPERLY. NOT TO MENTION THAT THEY TOLD ME MY ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE BAD AND COULDNT RUN DIAGNOSTICS OR ANYTHING ON IT. I BASICALLY DROVE OFF THEIR LOT THINKING THEY DIDNT DO ANY KIND OF INSPECTION ON THE CAR. THEY WANTED ME TO PAY 2000 JUST TO START ON WHAT WAS WRONG. I JUST GOT THIS CAR 1 YEAR AGO AND HAVENT HAD ANYTHING WRONG UNTIL THIS MONTH WHERE EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE GOING WRONG SAFETY WISE. LIMP MODE, LIMIT DRIVING, DRIVE MODERATELY, CHARGE MALFUNCTION, SENSORS LIGHTING LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE. I NEVER RECEIVED LETTERS ABOUT A RECALL. ANY REPLY WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU, JORDAN
THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND THE FUSEBOX FAILED CAUSING A COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. LUCKILY THE CAR WAS JUST PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND IT WAS A CITY STREET. THIS APPARENTLY HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE UNDER A PREVIOUS NHTSA RECALL AND THE REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CABLE WAS REPLACED BUT THE FUSE BOX APPARENTLY WASN'T. BOTH THE CABLE AND THE FUSE BOX WERE REPLACED THIS TIME IN HOPE THAT THIS WILL PERMANENTLY SOLVE THE ISSUE.
SIMILAR TO THE DEFECT FOUND WITH OTHER BMW CARS AND SUVS, THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR HAS CRACKED RENDERING THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT INOPERABLE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
TRIED TO PURCHASE REPLACEMENT TIRES FROM MY LOCAL COSTCO. FRONT AND REAR ARE DIFFERENT SIZES. SELECTED BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRES FOR REAR. FIRST SET SENT HAD EXPIRED DOT DATES. SECOND SET SENT HAD EXPIRED DOT DATES. BRIDGESTONE IS CLEARLY TRYING TO PASS-OFF EXPIRED TIRES TO CONSUMERS. FORTUNATELY, MY DEALER CAUGHT THE PROBLEM. BRIDGESTONE WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPLANATION OR PROVIDE SAFE TIRES.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PART WOULD BE SUPPLIED TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG ODOR AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE VENTS WHEN THE ELECTRIC CONTROL WAS USED. MY BMWS BATTERY COMPARTMENT IN THE TRUNK WAS FLOODED WITH WATER. THIS CAUSED SHORTING OF THE BATTERY. THE CAR STALLED AND BECAME SUDDENLY INOPERABLE. EVEN THE TRUNK COULD NOT BE ACCESSED FOR A LONG TIME AS ALL THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS WERE LOST. THE BMW SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHO WORKED ON THE CAR SAID THAT THIS COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS BATTERY EXPLOSION. FORTUNATELY, THE STALLING HAPPENED IN MY DRIVE WAY, BUT IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD ALSO. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AS PER BMW'S RECOMMENDATION. BUT STILL THE FLOODING IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT WAS NEVER FOUND. IT'S A SERIOUS RISK FOR ANY DRIVER. ANY BATTERY EXPLOSION OR STALLING CAN LEAD TO SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL AND CAN ALSO BE FATAL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MANY BMW OWNERS, BUT BMW HAS FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THIS AS AN ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO TWO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE BLOWER MOTOR WIRING AND PCV VALVE HEATER. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SMOKE AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON JANUARY 8, 2018. THE ACTUAL NOTICE OF RECALL WAS SENT OUT TO OWNERS, PRIOR TO THAT. IT IS NOW APRIL 12, 2018 AND I HAVE HEARD NOTHING REGARDING THE REPAIRS TO THIS PROBLEMS. THE DEALER TO WHICH I TOOK THE VEHICLE SAID, ONLY "WE HAVE NO IDEA - IT COULD BE MONTHS". THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND I AM WONDERING WHAT MY REMEDIES MIGHT BE. I NOW HAVE AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE, UTILIZING A PARKING SPACE THAT I PAY FOR AND, ALTHOUGH BMW IS PAYING FOR A RENTAL CAR, IT IS NOT A BMW. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

THE CONTACT CALLED BMW KINGSTON IN NORTH CAROLINA AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. CONTACTED BMW TODAY JANUARY 9TH, 2018 AND WAS NOT GIVEN AN ESTIMATED TIME ON WHEN REMEDY WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT HAS BEEN OVER A MONTH. WHENEVER I START THE CAR, SMOKE COMES OUT OF ENGINE (SMELLS LIKE PLASTIC BURNING).
MY AC UNIT ON MY CAR WAS RAMPING UP, LIKE IT WAS HOT. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM BMW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT THE AC UNIT WIRING WAS FAULTY, COULD SPARK FIRE. TOOK MY BMW TO LOCAL SHOP WAS TOLD IT WAS THE AC WIRING AND THAT IT BLEW OUT MY BLOWER MOTOR, THAT I HAD TO REPLACE IT OR IT WOULD BE CAUSE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE. HOWEVER, THE NSTA AND BMW RECALL WAS NOT IN PLACE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR AND GO BACK TO BMW TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. I WAS UNABLE TO PAY FOR THE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS SO PAID A PORTION OF IT, WITH THE INTENT TO WAIT UNTIL THE RECALL WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. A FEW MONTHS LATER SAME ISSUE AC UNIT RUNNING HOT, TOOK CAR IN EXPLAINED THAT THE CAR HAD RECALL, IF THEY COULD GIVE ME REFUND SINCE THE BMW CUSTOMER CORPORATION STATED THE REPAIR WAS REFUNDABLE. UNTIL TODAY, THE BMW DEALERSHIP WHO IS AUTHORIZED TO MAKE DIRECT PAYMENTS HAS NOT AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. THEY ARE SCAMMING ME OUT OF MONEY WHEN THE REPAIR WAS A RECALL AND IT CAUSED MY BLOWER MOTOR TO BURN OUT.

I SHOULD AT LEAST BE ABLE TO GET A LOANER SINCE SUPPOSEDLY MY CAR IS UNSAFE, BUT NONE HAS BEEN OFFERED.

STEERING BECAME VERY STIFF AND THERE WAS A STRONG BURNT RUBBER SMELL EMANATING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I DROVE ABOUT 6 MILES FURTHER AND PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY. I ALSO NOTICED THE BATTERY SYMBOL ILLUMINATED WITH WARNING MESSAGE 'CHARGING MALFUNCTION.' I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN IDENTICAL ISSUE THAT RESULTED IN THE BMW RECALL CAMPAIGN NO. 12V-550: ENGINE BELT IDLER PULLEY BOLT FOR THE X5. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE ENGINE IN MY 335D IS IDENTICAL TO THE DIESEL ENGINE IN THE X5 RECALL AND BELIEVE THE 335D SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I WILL BE CONTACTING BMW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS ABOUT MY CONCERN.
