Engine Failure. 6.2 motor. Dealer says thrust bearings failed
My wife was driving this vehicle home after dropping off kids at school when the engine suddenly stalled in the middle of the road. Luckily no one was directly behind her or she would have been in a collision. After being towed to the dealership, they informed us the engine "failed". There was no check engine light or warning message prior to the engine suffering sudden and catastrophic failure. Vehicle has less than 28k miles. The car is currently at the dealer with no time frame for repair because the engine is on "back-order".
Engine failure at 12k miles
Driving with children on freeway after picking them up from school and suddenly the vehicle shut down completely nothing on dash neither. In the middle of freeway after doing 55 miles per hour was very scary for me and my family. Tried starting vehicle and would not start for 15 minutes. The next day took it to the dealer where I purchased it and was told it was 5 vehicles there before me that needed engine replacement and I might be the sixth. I was called the next day and was Told the service man took it for a spin and the engine completely seized on him and to find out it was the engine And other components. There were no warning before any of this happened it seems as if once you accelerate to about 50 to 60 mph it completely shuts down he said. My vehicle is currently at the Jim Riehl Cadillac in Clinton Twp Michigan and waiting for an engine to be replaced with other components I was told. [XXX] was the date of the occurrence and I was told also told they may need to keep my vehicle for 2 - 3 months for the replacement from the GM manufacture. I spoke to individuals at the Cadillac headquarters and everyone seems to act as if this is so brand new and not a huge issue and I’m the one that is paying these hefty monthly car notes on a vehicle that I only owned for 1 year and 6 months with 24,000 miles on it currently. A very loud clicking noise from the engine was being produced and rapidly intensifying. It triggered an anxiety attack since I was on the freeway. Luckily, I was near my dealership otherwise I would’ve called emergency services. Turns out my engine was confirmed to be on the verge of a complete shutdown
I was driving down the road. I accelerated to the speed limit of 55mph. This was not a quick acceleration. As I reached 55mph, my car seized up. The dash board went out, the engine shut off and I wasn't able to brake. I managed to coast until I came to a stop in the roadway. My car would not turn back on and I was told my engine seized and had to be replaced
Engine stopped running while driving. Took to the dealer. Engine was making a load grinding noise. Dealer replaced the engine. Drove home vehicle dripped oil in the driveway. Took vehicle to dealership. Engine block was cracked. Dealer replaced engine. Took vehicle to dealership for oil change . Engine had 1,800 Miles . Engine oil was contaminated with large pieces of metal. I took the used oil filter home cut it open and filter was full of metal as well. Took back to dealership and ask to replace the failing engine and was denied by the regional service manager as well as the general motors engineer. Their answer was if the engine fails AGAIN the vehicle is under warranty. The engine oil continues to be full of metal chunks. In my opinion metal in oil is engine failure. This vehicle is unsafe to drive with the engine full of metal.
I was driving down the interstate going about 80mph, and the gas pedal stopped working. It slowed to a complete halt and put itself in neutral. Could not be restarted, would not even turn over after that. Engine just died with only 25,300 miles or so on the vehicle.
The vehicle shut off while cruising at 70-75 mph on the highway. A "Press Start Button" message appeared, followed by the Check Engine Light. I pulled over to the shoulder and had the vehicle towed to shop, engine has locked up!

My wife was driving the vehicle on the interstate up a hill with our [XXX] daughter when the engine seized without warning. A light came on and said the engine was hot and the accelerator pedal gave no response, and the vehicle shifted itself into neutral. She was able to barely get the vehicle off of the highway and call for help. we had the vehicle towed to the local dealer where she was which is five hours from our home to be told it needs an engine without any timeline whatsoever. 2024 [XXX], Engine failure on [XXX] ) Car shifted automatically in neutral, telling me to turn off the vehicle and restart it on the dash. I pull over to restart it and it does not come back on. Fast-forward 9 months later, another engine failure [XXX] At what point will Cadillac be responsible for these defective vehicles coming from manufacturing. I spent over $120,000 on this vehicle and to have two engine failures before 45,000 miles is absolutely unacceptable. The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and another recall; however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission made a whining sound. The vehicle lost power and shut off without warning. The failure had occurred while driving at various speeds, or while idling at a stop sign or red traffic light. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was not replaced. The dealer confirmed that the recall repairs could be performed. The failure persisted after the recall repair was completed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
I called dealer and told them that the suv was making a ticking sound and played them a recording of it. They told me that i could drive it in or call an 800 number and maybe get it towed. I decided to drive it in as towing it would prob take it to a dealer i did not know. There were no lights on indicating an issue. I was stopped waiting to turn left across traffic when the engine started making all kinds of clanging noise. At this point it quit and after a few attempts i got it restarted and towed it in to dealer the engine failure with out warning left me and my family in jeopardy in the roadway. Now i learn that lots of these 6.2 v8s are blowing up as my dealer alone has several of them out back waiting with no eta on repair parts coming. So not only were we put in pearl but i have 125k in a brick setting at the dealer. And givin a smaller auto that i can not pull trailers with. I feel endangered and ripped off pleasse help.
I am expressing my complaint on engine problem with my vehicle. I have an engine knocking or clicking noise that started last week. I had it evaluated by my mechanic, and we were told metal fragments were found in the oil pan…Indicating internal engine failure. I am angry now seeing all the info online about the failure of these 6.2 liter engines. My mechanic said he wouldn’t drive it for safety reasons because it will definitely get worse. I called the GM hotline. They were not very helpful. They said I needed to schedule with a dealer to have it diagnosed. She didn’t offer any more information. Shame on GM
My vehicle went in to the dealer for a routine engine oil change at 34k miles. I let them know that my vehicle was having a tugging sensation when I would press the gas. That same day(2/15/25) I was told that I would need a new engine. It is 2/28/25 and the dealership still doesn't have a time frame of when they will receive a motor to replace. By the way I bought my vehicle brand new and have always maintained they oil checks in their due time.
The vehicle has approx. 28,000 miles on the odometer. Always serviced at Cadillac on a regular maintenance interval called for by the vehicle and manufacturer. At highway speeds, the vehicle lost all power and came to a stop in moving lanes of traffic putting my family at risk of being rear-ended on a highway at highway speeds (greater than 65 mph). The vehicle was later towed by OnStar / roadside assistance. The Cadillac dealership that received the Escalade determined this was a failed motor. The Service Advisor at the Cadillac dealership mentioned this was a common issue on L87 blocks / engines. They've already seen a few at their dealership and GM had confirmed to them this is a known issue (motor failure on the 6.2 liter V8 L87s). There were no warning lights or other symptoms leading up to the motor failure.
Driving at 45 MPH on [XXX] in Florida, 16,000 Miles 6.2 complete engine failure, dealer and GM refused to offer a loaner, dealer estimates 4 to 6 months for replacement engine. Filed claim with GM customer care, totally useless responses. I have spoken with 4 other dealers in my area, all of them tell me they have multiple SUV's and trucks waiting for engines. Since the failure happened I started doing research, there are multiple FaceBook groups with thousands of members nationwide all experiencing the same issues. GM is doing everything they can to keep this issue hidden from the public while still selling the same defective engines in new vehicles. Multiple people have reported they are on their second or third replacement engines! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Engine failure with less than 30k miles.
I own a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. I was traveling on Interstate 75 to Tampa from Naples on Wednesday evening (01/29/25) when, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the check engine warning light illuminated. My vehicle suddenly lost power in the middle of the interstate and decelerated quickly. Thankfully, I was able to safely maneuver my vehicle from the fast lane to the shoulder of the interstate. I tried to re-start my vehicle as speeding traffic zoomed passed me. I was stuck on the interstate and afraid to get out of my vehicle for fear of being struck in the darkness. There were no warnings. My vehicle just shut off. I had my vehicle towed to a local Cadillac dealership. The mechanic who diagnosed my vehicle determined the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The local dealership stated the replacement engine is on backorder, and it may take weeks before my vehicle can be repaired. I now have a rental vehicle while I await for my vehicle to be repaired. Upon researching this issue online, I found NHTSA Investigation PE25001, where the manufacturer is investigating this engine failure issue. My vehicle mileage is approximately 28,000.
pulled up to a gate and was waiting for it to open, no warning at all, the engine died while in drive. I restarted it, pulled up to a stop sign, waited my turn, the engine died again. I was on my way to get my daughter from school, but didn't feel like my Escalade would have made it. so I drove it to the shop to check the battery. It wasn't the battery so we took it to the dealership. So thankful it didn't happen while I was driving in traffic, without any warning, it could have ended badly. took it to the delearship, same thing happened to the mechanic when he was test driving it. He said it is a problem with the engine, and we will have to wait for at least a month for a complete engine replacement. No warnings at all before this happened. This incident happened on 1/29/25. The escalade has approximately 16k miles on it.
Was driving on the highway and the engine completely died on me. Towed it to the dealer only for them to tell me that the engine needs to be replaced.
Complete engine shutdown without warning. Vehicle at Cadillac of Las Vegas in Nevada for inspection purposes. Vehicle came to stop in 45 to 50 mph traffic with strong possibility of rear end collision. Vehicle was being driven in inner lane of four lane highway with no way to get to far right lane. No shoulders on [XXX] and close to [XXX] to get off of highway. Rush hour traffic with rear end collision possibility. Onstar called Las Vegas Metro police department for assistance. Policemen parked there squad vehicle behind ours with their lights flashing to prevent a rear end collision. Vehicle has been diagnosed by dealer with a seized engine. New engine ordered on January 13 2025. Engine on back order with no expected delivery date. No warning lights or messages that engine was malfunctioning in any manner prior to shut down. While my wife was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, her vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. Since there was no shoulder, she had to coast to find a safe place to pull over. All the dashboard lights came on, indicating what appeared to be an electrical issue. She attempted to restart the vehicle several times, but only received a message stating, “Battery low, needs charge.” She contacted OnStar, expecting prompt assistance, but the experience was far from what’s advertised. She waited a total of 45 minutes just to speak with someone, only to be transferred to another representative. Despite having paid for OnStar services when we purchased the vehicle, they refused to cover the towing charges because she was on a private highway, forcing her to pay out of pocket for a service we had already purchased. During this time, it was extremely cold and windy. My 5-year-old daughter and wife waited about an hour and a half for the tow truck to arrive, and then an additional two hours while the driver secured the vehicle onto the flatbed. Since the car was completely dead, they had no heat the entire time. When they stepped out of the car so the tow truck driver could load it, they discovered they couldn’t get back inside—the doors wouldn’t open due to the lack of power. This entire ordeal was not only frustrating but incredibly unsafe for them. Having the vehicle shut down without warning on a busy highway, especially with our young child in the car, was terrifying for them. After our vehicle was at the dealership for a week, we were informed that the engine needs to be replaced. We were shocked to learn that this is a common issue with GM’s 6.2 engines. To make matters worse, there is no estimated timeframe for the repair because the engine is on backorder. For reference, the truck only has 24,000 miles on it and has been exclusively serviced by authorized Cadillac dealers. This experience has been both disappointing and deeply concerning.
2023 Cadillac Escalade engine failure at 23,000 miles while driving at 70 mph on a very rural area in Central Florida. Engine failure and need replacing engine. We have lost value and resale in vehicle because of faulty GM parts.
This is the second 2023 Cadillac Escalade sport platinum that we both brand new from the dialer and after the first one after 15K miles the engine blow off so the dialer replace it then we both the second one , brand new after 20k miles same thin the engine quit on as on the free way and its now in the dialer ship for two months now waiting for a new engine.
On Saturday, December 28, 2024 @ 1 PM while driving 70 mph on the I-10 freeway; the vehicle downshifted causing the engine RPM’s to increase. We had 15 seconds to make a decision as the vehicle shutdown immediately. On my driver’s side were 5-6 lanes of freeway with cars going 70 mph, while on the right-passenger side was Exit 73b called Waterman Ave. in San Bernardino, CA. We managed to park on a small strip dividing the 5-6 lanes and exit lane, as we couldn’t get over to the shoulder. In addition, the vehicle was stuck in Park and would not go into Neutral. The engine wouldn’t start. NO WARNING LIGHTS. Called 911 at 1:04 PM and asked for an officer to assist us because we were scared for our lives sitting on the freeway. We were worried someone would hit us from behind. About 1/2 hour after my 911 call an officer arrived. We told him what happened, and informed him we called AAA’s Roadside Assistance. The officer informed us that if there was a call, he would have to leave, and he was worried we’d get hit by drunk driver going 70 mph. Our vehicle was towed to Dutton Motor Company in Riverside, CA. • Engine failure possibly due to oversized lifter bores. Replace the engine to fix. • We had 15 seconds to stop suddenly going 70 mph, not on the shoulder of the I-10 freeway. Our safety was at risk so I called 911 asking for an officer. • Dealer told us the engine needs to be replaced. • Vehicle not inspected by police, insurance, just shop at dealership. • No warning lights. Absolutely nothing.
The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost automotive power. The check engine warning light was occasionally illuminated. The contact stated that after attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer informed the contact that the parts for the repair were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated the vehicle was towed to the dealer on several other occasions. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Investigation: PE25001. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Engine Bearings went bad per the dealer at 14K miles; the Car was purchased 13 months prior. New engine required. The car has been in the shop and is unusable. no warning lights ever displayed. The engine died without notice. The dealer has given us a loaner, smaller than said vehicle, and we have had to spend 5k renting cars so far.
While driving on the interstate at 80 mph, my vehicle switched to neutral and began to decelerate. I could not shift back to drive. Thankfully I was able to maneuver through the busy interstate to pull over to the median. We almost triggered an accident due to the deceleration while in the fast lane. Once we were able to stop in the median, I had to turn off the vehicle because it would not change gears. The engine would not start and we were stuck in Park mode. The vehicle had to be towed from the median of the interstate.
I was driving home from getting groceries when all of a sudden the vehicle starts to make a loud noise from the engine (no warning lamps/lights or any messages popped up.) I proceeded to go home and call my husband and ask for his help with the problem. I recorded a video of the car and sent it to him, and he said that it sounded like the engine is knocking and told me to shut the car off and call the dealership to further discuss the situation with them. After calling the dealership they towed my car to get it diagnosed. It has been a month or so now since leaving my car with them and they still cannot diagnose the issue.
My Escalade stopped running while on the highway at 70 MPH. There was no warning lights on at the time. The engine shut down and the truck stopped in a live lane. My entire family of 6 were stopped in the left live lane with traffic passing us on either side at excessive speed - it was very dangerous. Truck was towed to dealer - where it was diagnosed as a bearing issue requiring a full engine replacement. That was over 2 months ago - GM cannot even tell me when a replacement engine will be available. Please note I am in Toronto Canada and was made aware of your investigation online.
On [XXX] My wife and son were driving down [XXX] in passing lane running 70mph and the suv just started slowing down and had no power at which she started panicking due to trying to get all the way over to median with no power. thank god they made it without getting hit. At this time we called dealership and explained issue and they told us the motor has locked up (very known issue) Fast forward until now january 19,2025 they have verified it is locked up and they can't get another motor and have no eta on new motor(motor on national back order) So now we're paying a car payment and a rental $2200 a month and they(cadillac) keep telling us they will get a loaner (after countless calls and hrs on phone)so were not having to pay for a rental but have yet to receive one. only thing we have received is a $100,000 vehicle broke down with no eta on repairs, a rental bill of $2200 a month, and a bunch of broken promises. very disappointed customer really thought cadillac was way better than this. I was driving my 2024 Escalade on the interstate at 80 mph when the vehicle started jolting and acting as if it was going to stop. My speed dropped from 80 to 55 while the screen started flashing "press start button", all while the vehicle was still running. Luckily I was able to cross 4 lanes of traffic and pull over on the shoulder. I was fortunate that I was not hit. I turned off the vehicle and then started it back up. Two days later, the vehicle was once again acting as if it didn't want to start/go. After a 40 minute trip, the vehicle died as I pulled into my driveway. It did start back up but the engine was making horrible sounds. I had to be towed to the dealership. I had no warning lamps prior to the flashing "press start button". The problem has been confirmed by the dealership. Engine failure. I need a completely new engine. This will soon be 8 weeks ago that my vehicle was towed. I have been in a rental since that day. The dealership says they have no updates as to when the engine will arrive. After tests done at the dealership, they did confirm that the problems were happening on longer trips. Most of my driving is around town, hence why I noticed the problems when I had been driving for 30 plus minutes.
The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH, the instrument panel lights started blinking, and the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound before shutting off. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over onto the median. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with excessive oil consumption, causing engine failure. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided rental vehicle assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that there was an abnormal squealing sound coming from the vehicle at start-up. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Engine failure at 29k. There were no signs of malfunction or warning. There were two incidents before Cadillac approved warranty for a new replacement engine. First incident I was passing a vehicle on a two lane road when I was mid past the car suddenly vehicle died electrical and all. Message came on saying to restart engine. Thankfully I coasted past the vehicle I was passing and onto the shoulder of the road. Vehicle would not restart and left us stranded for hours waiting on a tow company. Had it towed to Cadillac where they told me it was a faulty fuse that caused the failure and it was fixed and was a fluke. They got it running said no other issues were found and vehicle was good to go. I had it back for only a few days and my wife and I were on the way to a restaurant. I stopped at a red light, again no signs of malfunction, no warning lights etc. the vehicle just completely dies again. Would not restart and left us stranded in a busy intersection. Thankfully a state patrol was sitting at the light across from us and came to our assistance and called for a tow. This time at the dealership they said engine failed and needed replacement. Just got it back as of Jan 2025 after 3 months. We were extremely fortunate that both times my 1 year old was not in the vehicle with us and no accidents occurred. From my knowledge 3 other Escalades were at the dealership for the same reason as ours was. Extremely dangerous situations the vehicle put us in and disappointment from a 6 figure vehicle from a manufacturer known to be reliable. I’ve owned two prior generations of Escalades and multiple other GM vehicles never having any issues and put over or close to 100k miles on each of them. Note we bought this vehicle “used” around 10k on it when purchased so we were unable to file a lemon law claim against it. Thankfully it came with a 100k bumper to bumper warranty.
The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that there were several unknown codes and unknown electrical issues displayed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer approximately eight or nine times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was a Lemon. The manufacturer was contacted regarding a buyback, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
The tires that were delivered on my new auto were deflective and dangerous as reported by the dealer on 10/1/24. The tires were wearing abnormally. One of the tires was worn so badly that I was warned that it could have blown at any moment. The tires had less than 16,000 miles. The car was maintained at the dealer every 5,000 miles. I was not notified about the defect until a worker at my home noticed the severe wearing of the edge of the right rear tire. (photo attached). As a result of the warning from the dealership I had to replace all 4 tires as I was warned that all of the tires will end up with abnormal wear within a 5,000 mile period. The problem was inspected and confirmed by the dealer. There were no warning signs, alarms or other signs other than at the time the rotation of the tires at 16,248 miles. The cause in my opinion was defective tires from the manufacturer (Bridgestone ALENZA) TPC spec356ms 275/50R22 111HM+S. The dealer stated that the auto might have been out of alignment but did not find any malalignment. I was informed by the dealer that I was lucky not to have been in an accident. I have photos of the defective tires.
The contact owns a 2023 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the following day while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle started to stall with a high-pitched squeaking sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the check engine warning light flashed on the instrument panel moments before the vehicle shut off. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact stated that the engine was replaced under warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Despite the repair, the contact stated that the check engine warning light was intermittently flashing on the instrument panel. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
I had a 2023 Escalade that was purchased new and it had TWO motors seize up in it. I filed a separate complaint for the 1st one. This will have to do with the 2nd time. The 2nd motor that seized up happened also on vacation, with a trailer. These new 6.2’s don’t like a trailer or any type of load. We were NOT even at 1/2 of the max trailer amount. We have had the 6.2 engine for 12 plus years in different vehicles pulling the same trailer and never had an issue until this 23’. So we were traveling in the panhandle of OK, in July, not close to a town, doing 68 mph and a warning light came on for 5 seconds saying something about engine oil hot, we couldn’t even read it before it went away and the engine died. Doing 68mph down a highway pulling a trailer. We got it safely to the side of the road. I had to leave my husband and son on the side of the highway in the middle of nowhere, in the hot as hell Oklahoma panhandle to drive back to our hometown with the family that was traveling with us to get our truck. My husband and son had to wait for 4 hours on the side of the highway. It was super dangerous. Not close to a city, in July when it was super hot. There was not enough room in the car I road in for my son and my husband had to stay with all our stuff so it didn’t get stolen! It took me 4 hours to get back to them and the tow truck showed up at the same time as me…4 hours later. It was awful. And this was the 2nd time!!!! This 23’ Escalade now has it’s 3rd motor in it before 30K miles!
Driving and power started to die and engine warning lights came on. Pulled over immediately and engine stopped. Wouldn’t come back on. Towed by Cadillac and discovered engine blew. Apparently a know issue with many similar in the shop awaiting new engine.
On 6/16/24 While driving on I95 the car started making a flapping noise and the car started to lurch and buck. No warning lights were on at the time. I pulled over and turned the car off and could not get it to restart right away. After a few tries it did turn on and the engine light stayed on but the car would not shift into gear. The car had to be towed and we were told there was a total engine failure.
[XXX] driving on the freeway in AZ when had the motor completely fail with only 10,000 miles on it putting my family in harms way at 70mpg trying to get to right side of the road during rush hour traffic with no power. Complete failure due to a lifter I was told by dealer 55days later it was fixed and have still issues. Currently doing a lemon law buyback that’s now over 90days with no responses from GM. Now having to take them to court to get rid of this unsafe vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On [XXX] my 2023 Cadillac Escalade Super Cruise VIN: [XXX] with approximately 9600 miles failed to operate in a safe manner and has malfunctioned. The vehicle has been well maintained and follows all manufacturer specifications. It is a lemon. The engine seized while operating on the highway. The vehicle lost speed, there was a crashing boom sound, followed by extreme shaking as grinded to a halt. It was extremely challenging for the driver to maintain control. The dealership confirmed the engine will not turn over, they removed the oil filter and examined the oil sample from it. The sample showed signs of metal, a clear indication of an internal failure. The procedure now is to order a new engine, radiator, oil cooler lines and all one time use components of the fuel injection rails all seals, gaskets and bolts required by General Motors. In addition, the emergency braking system did not engage. The onstar system emailed me the night before a clean bill of health with their diagnostic app. There were also no check engine lights prior to using the vehicle. Our use of the vehicle has been impaired, the market value has dropped, and there are obvious safety concerns in placing my family in this vehicle. My research online indicates this is a known issue, however no safety recall has been issued. Police arrived on scene to assist in tow. Police station was Boxford, MA. A report has yet to be completed. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
In May 2023 I bought a new 2023 Cadillac Escalade (because the engine on my 2021 Tahoe was being replaced—NHTSA 11658068). After owning the Escalade just under a year I started noticing it making odd engine noises, most often at a cold startup. It sounded like a ticking or vibration and was pretty loud. On April 30, 2024 I took the Escalade to Blackstone Cadillac in Fresno CA where they found Cylinder 2 was misfiring. They said it was related to TSB #19-NA-218 and recommended an engine replacement, which they completed, and I picked it up May 22, 2024. The new engine runs rough, tons of vibration, and frequently struggles with the automatic start/stop function at red lights. It will shut off and start up immediately, or it won’t want to start back up at all. Due to these concerns I took it back to Blackstone Cadillac in October 2024. The mechanics put my Escalade side by side with another Escalade and listened to both engines and they said it sounded the same and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. My Escalade continues to run rough, odd vibrations and problems with automatic start/stop to this day. I just received the recall notice “N252494000 L87 engine loss of propulsion” for my Escalade and was notified that a remedy is not available. I called the dealership and they confirmed, there is currently no remedy available for the recall on my Escalade. I am worried and scared to drive it because I was stranded in the middle of a highway with the same L87 engine on my 2021 Tahoe (NHTSA 11658068). I don’t know what to do.
After spending 3 months in Palm Desert CA, we were heading home to Colorado on Saturday [XXX]. Just a few miles east of Barstow CA, traveling about 70 mph on [XXX], our Escalade just died and shifted itself into neutral. Luckily we were able to guide the car on to the shoulder area. The experience was terrifying as we sat there for 4 hours……… speaking several times with both OnStar and Cadillac Roadside Assistance. A tow truck driver FINALLY arrived about 1:00 PM and took us and our Escalade to Victorville Cadillac where we arrived around 2:00 PM. Because it was Saturday afternoon, they would not be able to look at the car until Monday. We met with the General Manager, who provided us with a loaner car. The car was fully packed with our belongings and we were assured that the car would be secured on their lot. On Monday [XXX] at 11:05 AM, Jon Adams from the service department called Fred to say that the engine was blown and there were fragments in the oil pan. We headed to the dealership where we were for the next 4 hours. We were told that it could take several weeks for them to get a new engine delivered. We were over 900 miles from home and really had no other option than to buy another car from them. Of course, we had NO intention of trading in the Escalade as it we only had it for 1 year and 8 months AND only with 10,245 miles!! We were two mentally exhausted [XXX] who just wanted to get home!! The GM assured us that he would give us the full trade-in value of the Cadillac as if there we no engine issues. So, we purchased a 2024 Chevy Tahoe High Country in the amount of 91K. They gave us a trade price price of $81,550 for the Cadillac (we paid $110,775 on [XXX]) After spending 3 nights in Victorville, we headed home on 4/16/24. On 4/22/24 we requested a copy of the work order to submit to Cadillac only to find out that our Cadillac had already been repaired on 4/19 and on their lot for sale on 4/22 for $109,651! Was at red light my light turned green proceed threw the light, another vechile ran the red light hitting my car at 50 mph. Sending the car into a 360 air bags did not deploy and on star never called
The vehicle has an “auto hold” option, when enabled if you come to a complete stop you can take your foot off the brake and it will stay stopped. Most vehicles have this offering, and when enabled, stays on by default. Cadillac’s version needs to be enabled every time the car starts, as well as if you put it in park, plus potential other situations. They claim this is a safety “feature” when in fact it is a safety HAZARD. The point being, if it’s on by default and you forget about it, worst case you take your foot off the brake and need to hit the gas to move forward. With theirs, your worst case (which happens often unfortunately) is that you think it’s still enabled when it actually has disengaged, then you take your foot off the brake at a stop sign or stop light, and instead of staying stopped you roll into the car in front of you. This is a serious hazard that needs to be fixed but Cadillac doesn’t seem interested in addressing it. Hopefully you have more success
