DURING ROUTINE ACCELERATION THE CAR ACCELERATOR BECAME NON-FUNCTIONAL, ENGINE WENT TO IDLE, AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER MANUAL SHUT DOWN ENGINE RAN NORMALLY. PROBLEM WAS FAULTY CONTROL MODULE ON THROTTLE BODY. MECHANIC REPORTED THAT ON-BOARD COMPUTER AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS THE THROTTLE DOWN WHEN THIS TYPE PROBLEM IS SENSED TO AVOID DAMAGE TO ENGINE. COMPLAINT IS THAT IF THIS CONDITION OCCURRED WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY ENDANGERED. PROTECTION OF THE WELL-BEING OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PROTECTION OF THE ENGINE. THIS CONDITION SHOULD BE CORRECTED ON THIS MODEL AND PROHIBITED ON ALL MODELS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOMETER FAILED. THE ODOMETER NO LONGER READ MILEAGES ACCURATELY AND WOULD DISPLAY READNGS VERY SLOWLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,400.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND EXITING ON AN INGRESS ON THE EXIT RAMP I INITIALLY NOTICED A RATCHETING SOUND FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. (I THOUGHT I'D RAN OVER SOMETHING SO I GOT OUT AND CHECKED). AFTER ABOUT ANOTHER DAY I HEARD THE SOUND AGAIN, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME NOTICING MY CAR NOT MOVING FORWARD GIVEN THE APPLIED POWER THAT I WAS PROVIDING. CRAWLED UNDER MY VEHICLE AGAIN WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME ONLY TO FIND NOTHING. AFTER A FEW WEEKS, AND WHILE LEAVING FROM A DEAD STOP UNDER LOAD, OR WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR WAS NOT PULLING PROPERLY CAUSING ME TO NEARLY BECOME REAR ENDED ON SEVERAL (FOUR) OCCASIONS THAT WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE TRANSFER CASE, AND REPAIRED FOR $2000.00. THE SAME THING IS NOW HAPPENING ONCE AGAIN STARTING IN OCT OF 2014 AND AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH ON CADILLAC FORUMS, GM FORUMS, CADILLAC OWNERS.COM, CAR ID, CARS.COM, JUST ANSWER.CAR, AUTOFRENZY.NET, CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, NHTSA (POWERTRAIN/DRIVETRAIN PROBLEMS), AS WELL AS THIS FORUM SAFERCAR.GOV, I HAVE FOUND WELL OVER 647 COMPLAINTS FOR FAILURE OF THE TRANSFER CASE IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA ALONE. THERE WERE NEARLY 73,000 FIRST GEN SRX SOLD WITH AWD, AND FROM ALL OF THE OWNERS THAT I HAVE GATHERED AND FROM ALL THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH THEY HAVE ALL HAD SOME PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM THAT IS SOLELY WITH THE SRX, ITS ALSO WITH THE CTS, AS WELL AS THE STS. THESE $47,000 TO $58,000.00 PLUS DOLLAR VEHICLES ARE A ROAD HAZARD NOT ONLY THEIR DRIVERS, BUT TO ALL THAT SHARE THE ROAD. THE SRX CASES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND (PERMANENTLY) REPAIRED OR REPLACED. I ASK ALL OWNERS THAT SPENT THEIR HARD EARNED MONIES ON THESE FLAWED VEHICLES, ONCE AGAIN FROM GM, TO CALL, WRITE, AND E-MAIL OR DO THEM ALL FORUMS, YOUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, THE NHTSA AND HAVE ALL OF YOUR ATTORNEY'S ON STANDBY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE "SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM" LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO VEER EITHER TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 79,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE TRIED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE PEDAL IT EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THREE MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE HUB BEARING WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 SRX CADILLAC. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT INDICATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BODY. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88, 0000.
THE KEY FAILED TO BE RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION AFTER TURNING OFF ENGINE , THE VEHICLE CAN BE SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE WITH OUT DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL, WITH THE CAR RUNNING OR NOT , IT DID HAVE THE DEALER DO THE RECALL SERVICE FOR THE SHIFTER. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AFTER SERVICE . *TR
TRANSFER CASE CHAIN STARTED SLIPPING; PUSH GAS AND VEHICLE WOULDN'T GO; COST $1000 TO REPAIR; 2004 CADILLAC SRX *KB
TURN SIGNALS FAILED TO WORK. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. THE SELECTED SIGNAL DOES NOT FLASH WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED AS IF THE BULB IS BURNT OUT. WENT TO THE EXPENSE TO REPLACE BULB THREE TIMES, BUT, THE BULBS WERE GOOD. AFTER REPLACING BULB THE SIGNAL STILL DID NOT WORK. AFTER, SEVERAL WEEKS IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN. A MONTH OR SO LATER THIS HAPPEN AGAIN AND TOOK TO DEALER AND AGAIN THE BULB WAS REPLACED THIS TIME THE BULB WAS BURNT OUT. THE SIGNAL WORKED FOR 2 MONTHS AND WENT OUT AGAIN. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM CAR. MY DEALER CALLS IT THE MYSTIFYING CAR. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT GM WILL NOT ADMIT TO. SHAME ON GM, NO WONDER AMERICANS ARE GOING FOREIGN. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS BULB IS $85.00 EACH TIME.
MY 2004 CADILLAC SRX HAS 98000 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MINUTES, EACH TIME I START THE CAR. I CLEAR THE SYSTEM AND JUST DRIVE. THE CAR SHAKES WHILE DRIVING A BIT AND DOES PULL TO THE RIGHT. I AM NOT EXPERIENCING SOME OF THE PROBLEMS MANY OTHERS ARE FACING WITH THIS SAME WARNING, BUT FEEL I TOO WILL SOON, IT IS GETTING WORSE. I ALSO WAS FORCED TO PUT IN 89 OCTANE GAS AT A STATION THAT DIDNT HAVE SUPER, I HAD A LOW FUEL LIGHT. AFTER 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING STABILITY LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE. I CANCELLED MY TRIP AND DROVE TO MY MECHANIC. HE STATED THERE WAS A MISFIRE WHICH MAY BE FROM LOWER GRADE GAS BUT AFTER A FILL UP OF SUPER AND A FULL DAY OF DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING. BRINGING IT BACK TO GET SERVICED I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO MISFIRE, CLOGGED INJECTORS NORFAULTY PLUGS. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ECU. THESE CARS SENSE A PROBLEM AND "SHUT OFF" THE PROBLEMATIC FULE INJECTOR. WELL MINE IS NOT PROBLEMATIC BUT THE COMPUTER SAYS IT IS!!! NOW WHAT BUY A NEW ECU!!! 149.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC AND OVER 500.00 FOR THE ECU NOT INCLUDING LABOR, I'M LOOKING AT A GRAND TO FIX THE PROBLEM, IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!! I REALLY LOVE THE STYLE AND LOOK OF THIS CAR, BUT ALL THE EXTRA CRAP IS OVERKILL. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL FOR THE STABILITY SYSTEM QUICK, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A TOYOTA SITUATION ON OUR HANDS *TR
WHEN MAKING A TURN, GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP OR TAKING A SHARP TURN THE TRACTION ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. AT TIMES THE VEHICLE WILL STOP ACCELERATING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE PCM WAS REPAIRED. AFTER 2,000 MILES, THE ENGINE LOCKED UP AND STALLED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
WE PURCHASED A SET OF FOUR TIRES FROM THE SAME COMPANY ON THE SAME DAY THEY WERE PUT ON. THE MANUFACTURER IS GENERAL, P255/60R17 WHICH ARE THE REAR TIRES FOR A CADILLAC SRX 2004. BOTH TIRES WERE THE SAME, ONE CURRENTLY HAS THE BELTS SHOWING ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE, THE OTHER IS FINE. THE PEOPLE WHO SOLD THEM TO US SAID THE WARRANTY IS NOT VALID BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ROTATED. THEY SAID SIX MONTHS AGO WHEN WE WANTED THEM ROTATED, THAT THEY COULDN'T DO THAT, BECAUSE OF THE DIFFERENT SIZES, WE ASKED FOR THEM TO BE ROTATED FROM SIDE TO SIDE, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE FOR THIS, THEY NO LONGER SELL THIS BRAND OF TIRE. THE TIRES ONLY HAVE 23,000 MILES ON THEM WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR IN THIS PAST MONDAY OCT. 11, 2010. THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL WEAR FOR THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. IT IS ABNORMAL TO ME BECAUSE OF THE UNEVEN WEAR..... WHAT ARE WE TO DO? *TR
MY 2004 CADILLAC SRX WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM ENGAGES CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. CAR VIBRATES, STEERING WHEEL STIFFENS WHERE YOU CAN NOT STEER, BRAKES ARE ENGAGED, AND SLOWS DOWN 5-10 MPH INSTANTLY CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND YOU TO BACK UP AND COULD RUN INTO YOU. IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN IN WET CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE CONTROL AND SPIN INTO TRAFFIC CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IT IS VERY SCARY. IT HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY FIVE MILES AND STABILITY CONTROL MUST BE DISENGAGED TO PREVENT FROM HAPPENING. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CADILLAC SRX. A FEW DAYS AGO THE "STABILITY SYSTEM ENGAGED" MESSAGE STARTED APPEARING ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN. IT IS OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES AS I DRIVE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE AND PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. AT THE SAME TIME THE STABILITY SYSTEM ENGAGED MESSAGE POPS UP. IT DOES THIS CONSTANTLY, I NEVER TAKE A DRIVE WITHOUT THE MESSAGE APPEARING. THIS MORNING THE SAME HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO WORK, BUT THE WORST EVER. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND SWERVED IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL BUS ON THE FREEWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE BUT THE CAR ACTED LIKE A COMBINATION OF HAVING A FLAT TIRE AND RUNNING OUT OF GAS. READING CADILLAC SRX PROBLEM WITH STABILITY SYSTEM THREAD ON EDMUNDS.COM, I REALIZE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. THANKFULLY NO ONE HAS DIED YET, BUT AFTER THIS MORNINGS INCIDENT, THE OUTCOME IF I WOULD HAVE HIT THE SCHOOL BUS GOING 60 ON THE FREEWAY, COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. *TR

DRIVING TO NORMAN OKLAHOMA FROM FLOWER MOUND TX. IN 2004 CADILLAC SRX. STABILITY SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON MULTIPLE TIMES. ABOUT AN HOUR INTO TRIP SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM MESSAGE COMES ON. GOT OUT BOOK SAID TO GET TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. CALL DEALER AND HE SAID NOT TO WORRY BUT AFTER READING OTHER CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE AND A COUPLE OF TIMES, IT FELT LIKE WHEELS WERE LOCKING UP AND THAT I COULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LOOKS LIKE NHTSA SHOULD LOOK IN TO THIS PROBLEM AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THE LIGHT HAS BEEN GOING ON PERIODICALLY FOR THE PAST MONTH BUT JUST IN TOWN DRIVING. I WAS VERY CONCERNED YESTERDAY AS AT TIMES IT FELT THAT I DIDN'T HAVE CONTROL OF WHAT THE VEHICLE WAS DOING. I HAVE A 2004 CADILLAC SRX THAT CONTINUALLY GIVES ME A "STABILITY CONTROL ENGAGED" ON THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM SCREEN. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE BRAKES START TO LOCK. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2004. THE DEALERSHIP CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM TO FIX IT AND SUGGESTED I GET NEW TIRES THAT CAME FROM GM BACK ON THE CAR INSTEAD OF THE TIRES I HAVE NOW THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE CAR FOR A YEAR. IF THE TIRES WERE A PROBLEM, IT SHOULD HAVE STARTED A YEAR AGO WHEN I GOT NEW TIRES. I HAVE HAD THE TIRES REBALANCED AND PROPER AIR PUT IN THEM AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I HAVE TALKED WITH SEVERAL TIRE EXPERTS AND NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD THAT YOU CAN ONLY PUT ONE TYPE OF TIRE ON THE CADILLAC'S. I PUT THE SAME SIZE JUST A DIFFERENT BRAND TO QUITE THE ROAD NOISE IN THE CAR. I DON'T KNOW WHO TO TURN TO AT THIS POINT. IT MAKES IS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING A CAR WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL ENGAGE AND MAKE THE CAR FEEL UNSTABLE. I'M AFRAID TO LET MY WIFE DRIVE IT AT THIS TIME AND THIS IS OUR FAMILY CAR. *TR
WE HAVE OWNED A 2004 CADILLAC SRX FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS IT HAS BEEN GIVING US AN ERROR CODE SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM. I TOOK IN INTO MY LOCAL MECHANIC BUT HE SAID I WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BUT SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND REPLACED SEVERAL COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE MAC SENSOR. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE DEALER KEN BATCHELLOR IN SAN ANTONIO, TX. IN THE MEAN TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS BACK ON AND THE CAR WAS STARTING TO LOCK UP ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE ERROR CODE CAME ON. THIS WAS TRULY A FRIGHTENING AND VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE ONLY WAY TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE SITUATION WAS TO STOP THE VEHICLE TURN IT OFF AND RESTART THE CAR. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SAME THINGS AS THE MY MECHANIC AND A FEW OTHER THINGS AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. I TOOK IT HOME AND IMMEDIATELY THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. HE REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SAID THE STEERING WHEEL SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER PAYING MY MECHANIC $540, THE DEALER $1700, I WAS NOT WILLING TO SPEND THE $1800 FOR THE SENSOR. I FEEL ALONG WITH THE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AND GM SHOULD HAVE TO REIMBURSE THOSE OF US THAT HAVE SPENT MONEY BECAUSE THE DEALERS SAY THERE IS NO COVERAGE. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V125000 (SUSPENSION: REAR) FOR THE 2005 CADILLAC SRX MODEL. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE HIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE. HE EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,345.
WHILE MERGING ON TO THE INTERSTATE APPROX 2 MILES FROM MY STARTING PLACE, THE "STABILITY SYSTEM ENGAGED" MESSAGE CAME ON TO MY DISPLAY SCREEN. THIS HAD HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE ON A DRY/WARM ROAD. I CLEARED THE MESSAGE AND CONTINUED DOWN THE INTERSTATE. APPROX. 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN, THERE WAS A GRINDING VIBRATION IN THE BREAKS AND THE VEHICLE LOCKED. IT SLOWED TO ABOUT 45 MPH BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO USE THE STEERING WHEEL/ACCELERATOR AGAIN. THE MESSAGE THEN CHANGED TO "SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM" AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. THE GRINDING CONTINUED AND I DROVE 45 THE REMAINDER OF THE WAY TO MY DESTINATION. *TR
FRAME FAILURE. REAR SUB FRAME WAS NOT WELDED ON PROPERLY RESULTING IN THE CAR LOSING ALL DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND GOING OFF THE ROAD. COULD HAVE BEEN BAD IF SPEED WAS NOT SO LOW. CADILLAC HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX CAR DUE TO NOT HAVING PART FOR LAST 7 MONTHS. IT IS A RECALL ON THE 05 BUT NOT THE 04. GM REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN TELL ME THEY WILL LET ME KNOW WHEN THEY HAVE NEWS. THEY HAVE EVEN REQUESTED TO STORE THE VEHICLE AT MY RESIDENCE RATHER THAN THE DEALERSHIP AS IT HAS BEEN THERE SO LONG. I AM SO TIRED OF THIS 7 MONTH HEADACHE. IT HAS CAUSED US TO JERK THE WHEEL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS B/C IT CAME ON AND PULLED THE CAR TO THE OPPOSITE WAY. WHEN WE BRAKE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND IS HARD FOR US TO CONTROL CAUSING US TO ALMOST RUNNING INTO OTHER VEHICLES. DURING THIS TIME BOTH MY RIGHT AND LEFT REAR HUB ASSEMBLIES WENT OUT WE BELIEVE THE SYSTEM TURNING ON AND OFF CAUSED THIS. WE HAVE HAD BOTH HUB ASSEMBLIES REPLACED NEW TIRES ADDED ON AND HAD ALL TIRES ALIGNED HOPING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT ABOUT 65-70K MILES THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL STARTED MAKING NOISE IN MY 2004 CADILLAC SRX. I TOOK IT TO THE MAJOR CADILLAC IN KANSAS CITY, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL. THE WHINE TURNED INTO A MECHANICAL CLUCKING SOUND WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A COMMON SOFTWARE UPDATED THAT NEED TO BE INSTALLED (AND CHARGED ME ABOUT $250). WHEN I PICKED IT UP, PULLING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. I ASKED FOR A REFUND OR FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY FIX THE ISSUE. I WAS TOLD TO RETURN WHEN MY SERVICE REP WAS IN. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALER WAS SHUT DOWN BY GM. I UNDERSTAND SOME OF THESE DETAILS DON'T DIRECTLY TO THE ISSUE (WHICH I WILL FURTHER EXPLAIN), BUT SEEMS TO BE A SYMPTOM OF HOW THE GM DEALERS HANDLE ISSUES. TODAY I TOOK IT TO ONE OF TWO REMAINING GM SHOPS IN TOWN. THEY NEEDED TO PERFORM A $200 FLUID EXCHANGE ON THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT WAS THE ISSUE. THEN CALLED ME BACK, SAYING THERE WAS NO 100K MILE WARRANTY ON THE CAR AND THE REPLACEMENT WOULD BE ABOUT $1300, ALONG WITH THE ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT "SHOULD BE DONE" PUTTING THE TOTAL TO OVER $2500. ON A CAR THAT NOW HAS JUST OVER 70K MILES AND IS NOT QUITE FIVE YEARS OLD. HAD I NOT SEEN SO MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES WITH THE MODEL, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS A RARE OCCURRENCE. BUT GIVEN THE BEVY OF INDIVIDUALS WITH THE SAME THING HAPPENING, THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE A GLARING DESIGN DEFECT. I APPRECIATE THERE IS A PLACE TO COMPILE THESE COMPLAINTS. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AND THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE MALFUNCTIONS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
