I HAVE A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT 4 DR SEDAN. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE SERVICE ROAD ON I-35 I STARTED TO COUGH, I BLACKED OUT FOR A SPLIT SECOND. AFTER COMING TO I REALIZED THERE WAS A SHARP TURN IN THE ROAD. I HIT THE BRAKES HARD, THE ABS DID NOT WORK. I WENT THROUGH A SIGN, IT TORE UP THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR THEN HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT END.I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CAR. WITH THE ABS LOCKING UP IT CAUSED THE CAR TO SKID APPROX 300 FEET, WITHOUT SAFELY SLOWING DOWN. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *TR
HAD THE POWER STEERING RECALL DONE A WHILE AGO. NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE. NOW MY POWER STEERING FAILURE MSG WILL COME ON THE DASH, THEN THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT REAL HARD, JERKING EVERYONE INSIDE. CAR WILL STALL OUT WHEN YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT IF YOU SLOW DOWN AND KEEP ROLLING, IT WILL JUST STAY IN OVERDRIVE AND TAKES FOREVER TO GET BACK TO SPEED. CAR ALSO NEVER GETS TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE IN THE WINTER, ACCORDING TO THE TEMP GAUGE. HAD THE TEMP SENSOR REPLACED, STILL NO CHANGE, BUT I DO HAVE HEAT IN THE WINTER. ALSO AT TIMES MY SECURITY LIGHT WILL COME ON THEN THE CAR WILL SHUTDOWN WHILE I'M GOING DOWN THE ROAD. OTHER TIMES IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 5 MINS TO GET THE CAR STARTED. THERE WILL BE OTHER TIMES THE CAR CHIMES 4 TIMES AND NOTHING SHOWS UP, THEN OTHER TIMES THE POWER STEERING MSG WILL APPEAR. I HAVE ONLY LOST POWER STEERING ABOUT 5 TIMES WITH THIS CAR SINCE THE RECALL WAS DONE, AND NEVER BEFORE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AS I'VE BEEN READING INTERNET FORUMS. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR THE LAST 8-9 MONTHS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD COMPLETELY LOOSE POWER SPORADICALLY, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AFTER STARTING THE COBALT OR EVEN IF I AM DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE T/C LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, POWER STEERING LIGHTS ALL LIGHT UP ON THE DASH. THE SPEEDOMETER AND RPM GAUGES START GOING CRAZY. THE RADIO WILL ALSO GO IN AND OUT. USUALLY ON THE INTERSTATE, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO DRIVE, WHICH IS VERY SCARY. BUT IF I AM IN TOWN OR SLOWING DOWN TO STOP, THE CAR WILL CUT OFF. THEN AFTER I CRANK IT AGAIN AND START TO MOVE, THE TRANSMISSION CHANGES GEARS REALLY ROUGH AND FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL OUT. THE ONLY THING I HAVE FOUND TO FIX THIS (AFTER WEEKS AT DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS) IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND FLIP THE KEY ON AND OFF SEVERAL(20 PLUS) TIMES. *TR
2005 CHEVY COBALT --TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON DASH. LIGHT WOULDN'T GO OFF. KEPT HEARING CLICKING NOISES IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT AREA. DEALER SAYS THEY CAN REPAIR BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM ON MANY CHEVY COBALTS AND IT CAN BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE CAR TO LOSE POWER TO TRANSMISSION. CAR ONLY HAS 30,000 MILES. ORIGINAL OWNER. LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. WE TRIED RESETTING THE WARNING, BUT LIGHT STILL REMAINS AND CLICKING SOUND STILL REMAINS. RECOMMEND IT BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST STOPPED FUNCTIONING. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, DRIVER INFO CENTER MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" DISPLAYED. NO STEERING ASSIST. PARKED VEHICLE FOR SHORT TIME AND ASSIST RETURNED. DROVE FOR SHORT PERIOD AND ASSIST AGAIN CEASED TO FUNCTION. HAVE NOT BEEN TO DEALER YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
THE POWER STEERING LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND A BELL CHIMES. WHILE I AM IN TRAFFIC THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND BEGINS TO JERK. IT HAS HAPPEN TWICE THIS WEEK MARCH 14 AND THE 16 IN 5:00 PM TRAFFIC. I WAS GOING 40 WHEN IT HAPPENED. I CALLED MY USED CAR DEALER AND HE STATED NO WARRANTY AND TO TAKE IT TO GET CHECKED OUT. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR 5 MONTHS. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT HAS BEEN HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH A KNOCKING SOUND WHILE DRIVING. ALMOST SOUNDS AS IF SOMETHING WAS LOOSE AND HITTING SOMETHING ELSE IS THE ONLY WAY I KNOW TO DESCRIBE IT. PEOPLE WHO HAVE DROVE IN MY CAR THOUGHT IT WAS BAD SHOCKS OR STRUTS, BUT THOSE HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND WORKING FINE. IT MAKES THE NOISE WHILE DRIVING, HITTING NORMAL BUMPS IN THE ROAD, ETC. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE REPLACED SOME LOWER ARM BUSHINGS IN THE FRONT END. BUT THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. HE LOOKED AT A SERVICE BULLETIN AND NARROWED MY PROBLEM DOWN TO TWO THINGS. ONE BEING THE ELECTRIC MOTOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THIS PART WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED BY MY LOCAL DEALER WHEN CHEVY PUT OUT A RECALL ON IT. THE OTHER PART WAS THE STEERING GEAR THAT TURNS THE WHEEL. HE SAID THIS COULD COST UP TO $500 TO REPLACE AND DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE AND THAT NOT BE IT. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE IT ANY WAY. HE SAID HE DID NOT SEE A SAFETY ISSUE DRIVING THE CAR AS IS FOR NOW. BUT I WANTED TO REPORT THE PROBLEM IN CASE OTHERS WITH THIS VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES SO A RECALL CAN BE DONE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FAILED IN MY 2005 COBALT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED A RECALLED POWER STEERING MOTOR. THEY JUST CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT DIDN'T FIX MY POWER STEERING FAILURE AND I WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY FARTHER WORK BEING DONE. THEY OBVIOUSLY ADMIT HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THEIR POWER STEERING SYSTEM BUT WHAT THEY REPLACED DIDN'T FIX MY PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ALSO DISPLAYED INACCURATE READINGS WHENEVER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD TO WAIT LONG PERIODS OF TIME BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTIONING ABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON FOR THE MAKE AND MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT PRIOR TO THE FAILURES, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
OUR 2005 CHEVY COBALT LS HAS KEY STUCK IN IGNITION. I FOUND COUNTLESS SIMILAR COMPLAINS ONLINE FROM OWNERS. IS THIS RELATED TO STEERING ISSUE. IF NOT PLEASE HAVE THEM FIX THIS LEMON. IT'S NOT SAVE AS WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO TAKE THE KEYS OUT IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION, IN WHICH CASE SHIFTER STICK IS NOT LOCKED AND KIDS ARE ABLE TO SHIFT IT FROM PARK. IT ALSO DRAINS THE BATTERY. *TR
MY 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT'S DOORS WONT OPEN. I GET STUCK IN THE CAR OR OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. I HAVE HAD TO CLIMB TO THE DRIVERS SIDE THREW THE PASSENGER SIDE AND I HAVE HAD TO CLIMB OUT THE WINDOW BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN THE CAR. I HAVE ALREADY HAD MY CAR RECALLED BECAUSE I HAD NO POWERSTEERING AND NOW THIS. I CANT STAND GM - THEY CAN'T MAKE A SAFE OR RELIABLE CAR TO SAVE THEIR LIFE. I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID THEY CAN DO NOTHING FOR ME - EXCEPT CHARGE ME THE 100 DIAGNOSTIC TEST FEE. WHEN THERE ARE 100'S OF PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING THREW THE SAME THING I AM. THIS IS NOT SAFE WHATSOEVER. WHAT IF I AM IN AN ACCIDENT AND CANT GET OUT OF MY CAR. I SUGGEST GM DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THE CAR LOCKS UNLOCK AND LOCK BUT THE DOOR WONT OPEN. CLEARLY IT IS SOMETHING FAULTY. CAUSE IT IS HAPPENING TO BOTH DOORS. I AM SO ANGERED RIGHT NOW AND FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS IN DANGER. I DON'T FEEL LIKE CLIMBING OUT MY WINDOW ONE MORE TIME. 2005 CHEVY COBALT SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MY DAUGHTER'S 2005 COBALT HAS HAD TWO EPISODES IN 30-DAYS OF HER ACCELERATOR PEDAL DROPPING TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR RACING OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL SHE BRAKES HARD, PULLS OVER AND SHUTS OFF THE CAR. TODAY IT ACCELERATED TO 96 MPH AND SHE WAS TICKETED FOR SPEEDING. THE GM DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL. TOYOTA SAID THE SAME THING UNTIL PEOPLE STARTED DIEING... *TR
CAR LOSES POWER STEERING RANDOMLY, DEALER WONT RECOGNIZE RECALL. WILL BE TURNING AND CAR WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN LOSE THE POWER STEERING CAUSING MY CAR TO JERK AND I NEED TO CORRECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE REPAIRS, A FEW WEEKS LATER THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE ACTUAL FAILURE WAS THE ECM AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103,000.
THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN ON 6/3/10 AS A PART OF THE RECALL OF THE ELECTRIC POWER MOTOR. PRIOR TO THAT TIME THERE HAD BEEN TWO INCIDENTS WHERE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK, THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF AND AFTER STOPPING, AND RESTARTING THE CAR WOULD START. WE THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 15, 2011 TWO INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITH MY DAUGHTER 21 YEARS OLD IN THE CAR. THE FIRST WAS AFTER SHE HIT A SMALL POT HOLE, THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED SHE PULLED OVER RESTARTED THE CAR. THE SAME WEEK SHE WAS DRIVING ON I-94 AT 60 MILES PER HOUR THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED, SHE WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND RESTART THE CAR. ON FEBRUARY 22 OR 23, 2011 WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO GEORGE MATICK CHEVROLET TO ASK THEM TO CHECK THE RECALL WORK BECAUSE IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE REPRESENTATIVES THERE SAID THAT WE HAD TO PAY $95.00 FOR AN INSPECTION. THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE RECALL WORK THAT THEY DID, AND MORE THEN LIKELY IT WAS AN IGNITION SWITCH THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE COST FOR THAT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $500.00 I WOULD NOT PAY FOR AN INSPECTION BECAUSE THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WE HAD PREVIOUSLY AND THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS YOU CAN NOT TELL WHEN OR HOW IT WILL HAPPEN. THE INSPECTION OF THE RECALL WORK THAT THEY DID WAS SIMPLY SITTING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE CAR AND ATTESTING THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY NORMAL MECHANIC WHO DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT FAILED AGAIN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT SOMEONE CAN GET KILLED WITH THIS. THIS RECALL DID NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM OR THE MOTOR I RECEIVED IN THE CAR IS STILL DEFECTIVE. I WOULD LIKE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THE CONSUMER STATED HER DAUGHTER HIT A POT HOLE AND THE STEERING WENT OUT. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED THE RECALL ISSUED BY G.M WAS NOT EFFECTIVE. UPDATED 06/23/11
MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT HAS HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH ERROR CODES THAT THE DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE. WHEN THESE ERRORS OCCUR, THE SPEEDOMETER MOVES BACK AND FORWARD AND THE THE CAR ATTEMPTS TO STALL. THE CAR DOES STALL AT SLOWER SPEEDS AT TIMES. WHENEVER I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO BOB BELL CHEVY IN BEL AIR ,MARYLAND THEY TELL ME THE CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WHEN DRIVE IT . ON 02/11/2011, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER REP RAY, AGAIN,THAT HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND TO DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL IT DOES THIS AGAIN AND BRING VEHILE IN WITHOUT TURNING IT OFF AND THEY WILL THEN CHECK THE CODES. MY CHEVY COBALT DID THE EXACT SAME AGAIN ALONG WITH THE ERROR CODE "POWER STERRING" ACROSS THE SCREEN AS I WAS LEAVING THE DEALERSHIPP ON 02/11/2011 AND I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE SERVICE SHOP AND THE SERVIICE TECHNIAN OBTAINED THE ERROR CODES. RAY FROM THE SERVICE BOB BELL CHEVY STATED NOW I HAD TO PAY FOR ANY DIAGNOSTIC WORK AND REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS A RECALL PROBLEM. MY TIMES THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHO EACH TIME INTIALLY DENY THEIR IS A PROBLEM AND STATE THEY CANNOT DIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEMS UNLESS THEY CAN REPRODUCE THEY PROBLEM OR I DRIVE THE VECHILE TO THEM WHILE IT IS HAPPENING WITHOUT TURNING IT OFF. THIS CAR IS UNSAFE AND HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THESE ERROR CODES OCCUR CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENTS. I FEEL MORE INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE COMPLETED INTO WHY THE MAKERS OF THE CHEVY COBALT ARE UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAGNOSE ERROR CODES AND CONTINUE TO BUT MY LIFE AND MY FAMILY AT RISK. I AM UNABLE TO TRADE THIS CAR IN TO ANYONE BECAUSE OF THE REPEATED PROBLEMS AND I WOULD NEVER SELL IT TO AN INNOCENT BUYER WHO COULD BY HURT WITH THIS CAR. WHY GM IS ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH THIS DEFECTIVE CAR IS NOT FAIR. *TR
AT MULTIPLE TIMES, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR THE OUTSIDE LATCH. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MAINLY WHEN IT GETS VERY COLD OUTSIDE. WHEN I PULL THE LATCH IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE IT CATCHES ANYTHING INSIDE THE DOOR. THIS PROBLEM WILL GO ON FOR A COUPLE WEEKS, AND THEN SUDDENLY THE LATCH WILL BEGIN TO WORK AGAIN. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE. SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. *TR
THE DRIVERS DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED FROM EITHER THE INSIDE HANDLE OR THE OUTSIDE HANDLE OF THE THE DOOR, THUS TRAPPING THE DRIVER INSIDE THE CAR OR PREVENTING THE DRIVER FROM ACCESSING THE CAR IF THEY ARE NOT IN IT WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED WITH EITHER THE DOOR KEY, THE REMOTE OR UNLOCKING THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. THIS RESULTS IN THE DRIVER BEING FORCED TO ENTER AND EXIT THE CAR BY ENTERING THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THEN CLIMBING OVER THE CONSOLE. THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FROM MANY OWNERS OF COBALTS AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IF THE OCCUPANT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH IT WAS CRITICAL TO EXIT THE VEHICLE, THEY COULD NOT. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS THE DOOR BEGAN WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES.

AFTER WAITING A COUPLE OF MINUTES THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES IN THE SAME DAY AND CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 04/07/11 *BF UPDATED 04/08/11
I HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN MY CAR AND LOCKED OUT OF MY CAR DUE TO THE LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. THIS MORNING I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO COME UNLOCK MY CAR AT 5:00 IN THE MORNING. *TR

THE WARNING ENGINE POWER REDUCED LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON A INTERMITTENT BASIS FOR THREE WEEKS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HER TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000. LOSS OF POWER STEERING, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED. RECALL WAS DONE 1/24/11. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND WARNING LIGHTS AUGUST 3, 2011. DEALER UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND WARNING LIGHTS AUGUST 31. AGAIN, DEALER UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR TO A CHEVY DEALER FOR SAFETY RECALL 10023 AFTER I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND I HEARD BEEPING AND THE 'POWER STEERING' APPEARED IN THE CONSOLE. ONCE THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON, THE GEARS HAD A SLAMMING SOUND AND THE CAR WOULD ONLY DRIVE 10 MPH AT MAX SPEED. THE DAY I PICKED IT UP, THE SAME THING HAPPENED A MILE AWAY FROM THE DEALER BUT THIS TIME I HEARD THE CLICKING SOUND THE BRAKE WILL MAKE WHEN YOU TAKE THE CAR OUT OF PARK, SHOOK THE ENTIRE CAR WHEN THE GEARS SHIFTED, DROVE ONLY 10 MPH AND FELT LIKE IT WOULD STALL IF I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I PULLED IT OVER IN A PARKING LOT AND IMMEDIATELY HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHO, THE NEXT DAY AFTER LOOKING AT THE CAR AGAIN, TOLD ME HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. FED UP WITH THIS DEALER, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GARAGE TO HAVE IT INSPECTED, AGAIN NOTHING. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR AT ALL NOW. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THERE CAN BE SO MANY PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, YET NO MECHANICS CAN SAY THERE IS AN ISSUE. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT SHOULD ONLY COME ON WHEN THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AND FOR ONE TO NOT BE DETECTED IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR FOR NEARLY 2 WEEKS NOW AND HAVE GOTTEN NO CLOSER TO FEELING SAFE WITH ME OR MY FAMILY INSIDE OF IT.

THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REMOVED THE BLACK BOX FOR INVESTIGATION. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT NOTIFIED THE CONTACT OF ANY OUTCOME OF THE INVESTIGATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY COBALT, THE KEY CONSTANTLY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS UNABLE TO TURN MY CAR OFF FOR OVER 5 HOURS. THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY REASONS. WITH NO ADVANCED SIGNS OR WARNING (MILEAGE AT 99,930), UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND SECURITY LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR'S RPM REVVED UP AND DOWN AND WANTED TO STALL. THE FUEL GAUGE JUMPED BACK AND FORTH. THERE WAS A CONSTANT CLICKING IN THE GEAR SHIFT AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED INTO PLACE WHERE I COULD NOT TURN IT. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES BEFORE EVERYTHING SEEMED TO GO BACK TO NORMAL AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE. THE NEXT TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS WHEN MILEAGE WAS AT 99960. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT STOPPING AND STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND SECURITY WARNING LIGHTS WENT OUT AND I PUT THE CAR INTO GEAR TO DRIVE, ONLY TO BE PRACTICALLY JERKED OUT OF MY SEAT WITH HARD SHIFTING AND ACTING LIGHT IT WANTED TO STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I DROVE THE CAR DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUED ON THE ENTIRE DRIVE THERE. ONCE THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF, THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE RECREATED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEREFORE I WAS SENT ON MY WAY WITH NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG. THE NEXT REPEAT EVENT OCCURRED 3 WEEKS LATER (MILEAGE 100,450) BUT CORRECTED ITSELF WITH SEVERAL OFF/ON OF THE ENGINE. NEXT OCCURRENCE AGAIN AT 100,600 WITH SAME RESULTS. THIS HAS NOT YET HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, BUT I DID ASK THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING AND HE SAID IF IT DID, I WOULD EASILY BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. PERSONALLY, I DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE THIS WHILE DRIVING 55-65 MPH! THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS COULD BE A COSTLY FIX SINCE IT IS A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION AND NO GUARANTEES EACH TIME WHATEVER THEY TRIED WOULD FIX IT...NOT MUCH CONFIDENCE COMING FROM THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP MECHANIC!! *LN

THE POWER STEERING MOTOR ON MY 2005 COBALT FAILED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN DECEMBER, 2010. NOW, IN OCTOBER, 2011 I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING MOTOR REPLACED AS PER THE CHEVROLET RECALL. FIVE DAYS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE MOTOR, THE EXACT SAME ISSUES HAVE RETURNED. THE CAR STUTTERS AT ANY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING FAILS COMPLETELY MAKING THE CAR NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AND THE CAR HAS STALLED AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN TIMES SO FAR. CHEVROLET KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT THE RECALL OF THE POWER STEERING MOTOR ALONE DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE AT FAULT AND IT SEEMS THAT CHEVROLET WILL ONLY COVER THE CHEAPEST PART OF THIS FIX. CHEVROLET EXPECTS ITS CUSTOMERS TO PAY FOR THEIR MISTAKE AND NOT ONLY IS THIS MISTAKE AN INCONVENIENCE IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 CHEVY COBALT LS. MY MAJOR PROBLEM (THERE OF COURSE ARE OTHER SMALL ONES) WITH THIS CAR IS THAT IT DIES? IT JUST SHUTS DOWN. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75-80 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPPED. "REDUCED ENGINE SPEED" AND "ENGINE DISABLED" WARNINGS SCROLLED ACROSS THE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SHOULDER, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I RECENTLY PURCHASED USED MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT AND SUNDAY A WEEK AFTER HAVING THE CAR GAVE ME PROBLEMS. ACCORDING TO THE CARFAX REPORT THE POWER STEERING WAS REPLACED IN APRIL ASSUMING DO TO THE RECALL. BUT I GOT IN MY CAR AND THE POWER STEERING READ ACROSS THE MILEAGE AREA AND CHIMED. WELL LAST YEAR I HAD ISSUES WITH MY 05 CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING UNIT AND IT DID ALMOST GET ME KILLED ALONG WITH SOME PEDESTRIANS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY NO ONE GOT HURT. YOU GUYS FINALLY RECALLED THE CAR AND I HAD MY UNIT REPLACED ON AUGUST 16 OF 2010. HOWEVER THIS PAST MONDAY OCTOBER 4TH MY CAR DID THE SAME THING AFTER THE REPAIRED RECALL WAS FIXED. IT WOULD APPEAR THAT ANY VEHICLE FROM 05 - 09 HAS THIS PROBLEM AND IT WILL NEVER BE FULLY REPAIRED CORRECTLY OR IT CAN'T BE. BUT I THINK IT WILL TAKE HUNDREDS OF MORE ACCIDENTS AND MAYBE A FEW HUNDRED DEATHS BEFORE IT IS TRULY DEALT WITH ACCORDINGLY. I THINK THEY JUST NEED TO TAKE ALL THESE VEHICLES BACK AND SCRAP THEM AS RECYCLABLES BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER BE SAFE OR LIABLE. THEY WERE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND I TRULY DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT. OR THE REPAIRS WILL NEVER TRULY FIX THIS PROBLEM AND YOU NEED TO ISSUE A STATEWIDE ALERT TO GET THESE VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD COMPLETELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT IF NOT KILLED. MADE LEFT TURN AND MY AIRBAG WENT OFF. MECHANIC SAID THAT THE CLOCK SPRING SHORTED OUT INTERNALLY IN THE COIL AND DEPLOYED THE AIRBAG. GM HAS NOT CONTACTED ME OVER THIS MATTER AND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THEM TO REIMBURSE ME FOR SINCE 2010.
THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SO MANY TIMES FOR THE SAME THING. WHEN YOU DRIVE AT TIMES, THE CAR SPUTTERS AND DIES OUT AND RUNS ROUGH. IT OVERHEATS AND THEN THE MECHANIC CANT FIND THE PROBLEM OR ANYTHING WRONG BUT I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. MY COUSIN BOUGHT A 2009 COBALT AND HER CAR HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS OF DYING OUT. THE CAR IS ALWAYS IN THE SHOP BECAUSE EVERYTHING BREAKS DOWN. I STILL OWE ON THE CAR AND ITS A MONEY PIT. A MECHANIC SAID MY FRAME IS BENT. I HAVEN'T BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.
