TL* - THE CONTACT HAS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT WITH 14445 MILES AND THE VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER WHEN THE TRACTION CONTROL ENGAGES. THE VEHICLE HAS ALL WHEEL DRIVE. THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE UNDER WET CONDITIONS AT 45 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER (CURRY CHEVROLET) AND THEY THE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT HAS ALL REPAIR ORDERS.
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 20 MPH AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF, MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT BLANK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR AND IT HAS HAPPENED SINCE. TODAY WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE BADLY AND I ALMOST LOST CONTROL. I TRIED TO BRAKE BUT IT MADE THE SHAKING WORSE. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT HAD LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. I THOUGHT AT FIRST MAYBE A FLAT TIRE BUT NO. AS QUICKLY AS IT HAPPENED IT WENT AWAY. I AM VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS AND HAD PROBLEMS WITH GM CARS BEFORE. YOU WOULD THINK I WOULD HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON AND WENT WITH A HONDA OR TOYOTA. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING LOCKED UP UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE WAS GRADUAL WORSENING. UPDATED 12/18/06. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATES FOLLOWED BY POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 34,546. UPDATED 10/21/09. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESET WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THE RE-STARTED. AS SOON AS THE GEAR WAS CHANGED, THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL ALL OVER AGAIN. UPDATED 10/20/09

SUSPENSION IS REALLY BAD.
I GOT IN AN ACCIDENT ON OCTOBER 17, 2006 AND MY AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF. I HAD A FRONTAL IMPACT AND NOTHING CAME OUT. RESULT WAS THAT I HIT MY HEAD AT THE CONNECTING PART OF THE WINDSHIELD AND ROOF OF MY CAR. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE STEERING BECAME VERY TIGHT AND THE VEHICLE JERKED VIOLENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 10/30/06. *JB
POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND ELECTRICAL PANEL FLUCTUATES. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS AND AT A STANDSTILL. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 8 TIMES FOR THIS DEFECT. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCK MECHANISM FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DOORS WERE UNABLE TO BE UNLOCKED USING THE ELECTRONIC KEY FOB OR MANUALLY. IN ADDITION, THE KEY COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V171000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V047000(AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM)HOWEVER, THE FAILURES PERSISTED. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER MOTOR AND TWO BODY CONTROL MODULES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,496.
CAR PURCHASED ON 3/14/05 FROM RK CHEVROLET. STARTING SEPT. 12, 2006 THE CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. VARIOUS DASH BOARD LIGHTS CAME ON, TICK NOISE FROM THE SHIFTER, POWER STEERING LIGHT AND FAILS, AND THE GAUGES BEGAN TO GO CRAZY! THE CAR ALSO WANTED TO SHUT OFF, AND HAS BOOSTS OF ENERGY. THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED NOVEMBER 2, 2006, JUNE 8, 2007, SEPTEMBER 19, 2007(COLONIAL CHEVROLET), AND OCTOBER 16, 2007 (COLONIAL CHEVROLET). AFTER WE GOT IT BACK FROM COLONIAL, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 2 DAYS LATER. COLONIAL CHEVROLET INDICATED THAT THAT COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY WERE WAITING TO TALK TO GM ABOUT IT! THEY EVEN SUGGESTED INITIATING A BUY BACK. WE HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GMAC IN DETROIT ABOUT THE ISSUE AND NO ANSWERS HAVE GIVEN NOR A RESOLUTION. CURRENTLY WE HAVE TO DRIVE A VERY UNSAFE CAR THAT JOLTS, CAN'T TURN, AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT TIMES. WE HAVE BEEN REQUESTING AT LEAST A RENTAL (SAFE CAR) UNTIL THIS PROBLEM CAN BE ADDRESSED AND NO ONE HAS OFFERED THIS IN LUE OF A RESOLUTION. I HAVE 33000+ MILES ON MY COBALT. LATELY THE WIPERS HAVE BEEN GOING INTO PULSE MODE WHILE THE SELECTOR IS IN REGULAR SPEED. THEY ALWAYS WORK IN HIGH AND IN PULSE. WHEN THE WIPERS START TO PAUSE I MOVE THE SELECTOR TO HIGH SO THAT I CAN SEE TO DRIVE. THE SELECTOR LEVER DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE MOVING AROUND. I HAVE NOT EXAMINED THIS AND I HAVE NOT CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER. *NM
THE PAINT ON THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR CONTINUES TO PEEL OFF. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH ON A CLEAR DRY HIGHWAY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ALL TRAFFIC STOPPED ABRUPTLY, CAUSING THE FRONT END TO IMPACT THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. THEN THE VEHICLE SPUN OFF THE ROAD TO THE LEFT IMPACTING HEAD ON WITH THE GUARDRAIL. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY ON EITHER IMPACT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE RENTAL CAR COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL.
I OWN A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH IT. SOME AREN'T LIFE THREATENING (LIKE THE POWER WINDOWS NOT WORKING AND THE BRAKE LIGHT FLASHING), BUT I'VE HAD A MAF SENSOR SHORT WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO STOP RUNNING WHILE I WAS DOING 60-65 MPH AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. FORTUNATELY, THE CAR STARTED BACK UP. I'VE RECENTLY DEALT WITH ANOTHER STEERING ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN AN UNEVEN/BUMPY ROAD AND A "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE CAME UP ON THE INFORMATION PANEL AND THE SPEEDOMETER WENT OUT. THE STEERING BECAME VERY MUSHY AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. I'VE ALSO DEALT WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING AND THE CAB FILLING WITH GAS FUMES. THERE HAS BEEN HESITATION/LOSS OF POWER WHEN THE A/C IS ON, WHICH MAKES IT UNSAFE TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC OR BLIND CURVES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN VERY PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE CORRECTED WHAT PROBLEMS HAVE ARISED, BUT I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE DRIVING THE CAR AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED TWICE DUE TO A RATTLING NOISE HEARD WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. THE STEERING SHAFT WAS LAST REPLACED WAS 8-11-06 BUT THE RATTLING NOISE CONTINUED. WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED TO EITHER SIDE, A GRINDING NOISE WAS ALSO HEARD. THE REAR BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED ONCE DUE TO THE VEHICLE BOUNCING ALL OVER THE ROAD. SOON AFTER, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO REVERSE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ENGINE REVVED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTERWARDS, THE ENGINE WAS EASILY RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON, THERE WAS EXCESSIVE CONDENSATION ON THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED THAT WAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED.
TL*- THE CONTACT RECEIVED TWO RECALLS 04560000 CONCERNING EXTERIR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS AND 07V014000 CONCERNING STRUCTURE ON THE 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT IN AUGUST 2006. HE MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE DEALER WILL NOT GIVE HIM A LOANER VEHICLE FOR THE DAY AND/OR WILL NOT GIVE HIM A RIDE TO WORK. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURES TO DATE.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR TEN MINUTES. THE VEHICLE IS USUALLY DRIVEN BY STUDENT DRIVER'S WHO PRACTICE PARKING ON A DAILY BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE OVERDRIVE LIMITS ON THE POWER STEERING ENGAGED AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE POWER STEERING WAS USED EXCESSIVELY. THE MANUFACTURER COULD OFFER NO REPAIR BECAUSE THE OVERRIDE FEATURE WAS MANUFACTURED ON THE VEHICLE TO KEEP THE POWER STEERING PUMP INTACT.
BLOW OUT IN TIRES IN THE SIDEWALLS AND BAD VIBRATION GOING DOWN HIGHWAY. *JB
2005 COBALT DOOR AUTOMATIC.. SINCE JUNE-JULY OF 2006, THE AUTOMOBILE HAS REPEATEDLY BEEN TAKEN TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS FOR REPAIR OR CORRECTION DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE WOULD ACT AS TO STALL, SHAKY, AND HESITATE WHILE DRIVING. EACH TIME THE DEALER SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND OR DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. NOW, THAT THE WARRANTY IS OUT AND THE CAR HAS DONE THE SAME PROBLEM (JULY 10. 2008) THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THEY WILL HAVE TO LOOK FARTHER INTO IT.. I KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, THE MOMENT ITS OUT OF MANUFACTURE WARRANTY, THEY CAN FIND A PROBLEM WITH IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER APPLIED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND AFTER 20 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRENCE WAS CONSISTENT WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND MOTOR. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM); HOWEVER HIS VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL FOR THE 2005 COBALT? THIS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE! WHY DO YOU HAVE THE RECALL ONLY FOR 2009, IT SHOULD BE FOR 2005 AND ALL MODELS AFFECTED, REGARDLESS OF THE YEAR! JUST PICKING ONE YEAR IS NOT ACCURATE FOR THIS TYPE OF ISSUE. THIS NEED TO BE FIXED ASAP! PLEASE AND THANK YOU! "TRANSMISSION SHIFT POSITION SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT", AND FMVSS 114, "THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION". ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGED. IF THE CLIP IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, THE SHIFT LEVER AND THE ACTUAL POSITION OF THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT MATCH. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVE COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER TO "PARK" AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT BE IN "PARK". *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED, ALL DASH BOARD INDICATORS BLACKED OUT AND THERE WAS NO POWER BRAKING. NO WARNING SIGNALS ALERTED THE CONTACT PRIOR THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER OPENED A CASE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO RESET THE ELECTRONIC MODULE, HOWEVER THE DEFECT PERSISTED. *AK THE WINDOWS WOULD GO DOWN SLOW, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING RIGHT HAND TURNS THERE IS A BINDING AND VIBRATION FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW POSSIBLY WITH THE RACK AND PINION. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE WAS CURRENTLY NOT A FIX FOR THIS, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS WORKING ON FINDING A REMEDY FOR THIS PROBLEM.
AFTER RECENTLY PURCHASING A 2005 CHEVY COBALT, I NOTICED THE STEERING FELT LIKE IT WAS IN A BIND AND I CAN HEAR A RUBBING NOISE WHEN MAKING RIGHT HAND TURNS. I HAVE BECOME AWARE OF OTHER COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THIS EXACT SAME THING. I AM CONCERNED THE POWER STEERING WILL GO OUT AND I WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I KNOW THERE ARE TWO SERVICE BULLETINS OUT ON THIS; NHTSA ITEM NUMBERS: 10019478 AND 10017497. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF THE DETAILS OF THESE BULLETINS AND WHAT IS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. *NM
MY NEW 2005 CHEVY COBALT PURCHASED 08/28/05 HAS IMPAIRED MY DRIVING ABILITY TWICE NOW. MY POWER STEERING LIGHT HAS BEEN GENERATED EACH TIME BEFORE I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE OR STEER PROPERLY. ON 04/11/06 WAS ON THE HWY 1ST TIME AND EXITED OFF SAFELY. JUNE 2ND 2006 8 WEEKS LATER 2ND TIME OCCURRED DOWN TOWN DROPPING OFF CHILD TO DAYCARE AND MY WAY TO WORK FOR IMPORTANT WORK MEETING. POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND BEGAN TO JERK MY CAR AGGRESSIVELY BACK AND FORTH UNTIL I GOT SAFELY HOME. CALLED DEALER TO GET TOWED TO THEM THEY GAVE ME A 1800-222-1020, BUT FAILED TO TELL ME THAT IT WOULD BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST CHEVY DEALER WHERE THE CAR IS NOW. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE DEARLERSHIPS HAVE GIVEN ME THE RUN AROUND FOR FOUR DAYS, AND THE CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND DEALERSHIP INDICATES SUGGEST NO MANUFACTURE DEFECT ISSUE OR SAFETY. NO REASSURANCE TO THE CHEVY COBALT OR WHAT THEIR WILLING TO DO FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DOES NOT SEEM TO ADDRESSED, OR WHAT I CAN OR CANNOT DO WITH THE CAR. NO CAR LOANER WAS GOING TO BE GIVEN UNTIL THE SERVICE MANAGER SAW A PROBLEM FIRST. IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO GET A STRAIGHT ANSWERS AND QUALITY CUSTOMER CARE AS TO A CONSIDERABLE DEFECT WITH THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE OR THE IMPAIRMENT OF THIS TYPE VEHICLE THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING STARTING WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD. HAD TAKEN THE CAR IN TO FIX THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THAT HAD SNAPPED AND SPOKE TO ADVISOR ABOUT THE STEERING PROBLEM BUT AT THAT TIME IT HAD OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, THEY CHECKED AND FOUND NO PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. FOLLOWING ANOTHER BROKEN EMERGENCY BRAKE (THAT STILL DOES NOT HOLD) I AGAIN EXPLAINED THE STEERING PROBLEM THAT WAS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND AT THAT TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST ABOUT 1200.00 AND THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY LEFT (CAR HAD 36,000). THERE IS NO EXPLANATION OF WHY IT HAPPENS, IT CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME AND MAY REMAIN OUT FOR DAYS. THERE IS NO WAY TO PREVENT IT THAT I HAVE FOUND. WHILE DRIVING IT WILL GO OUT AND IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE WHEEL, I HAVE HAD TO COMPLETELY STOP THE CAR TO AVOID MISSING OR NOT MAKING A TURN OR AVOID ANOTHER CAR THEN WHILE YOU'RE STRUGGLING TO TURN THE WHEEL THE STEERING HAS COME BACK ON AND THE CAR MOVES ERRATICALLY. THE CARS GAUGES WILL STOP WORKING (ALMOST LIKE A SURGE) WHILE THE STEERING IS OUT AND I WILL HAVE NO SPEEDOMETER. FIRST IT WAS THE ENGINE STALL DUE TO FAULTY FUSE BOX WHICH THEY FIXED. THEN THERE WAS THE SUN ROOF CAP WHICH FELL OF TWICE AND THEY ATTEMPTED TO FIX FOUR (4) TIMES. BOTH WHICH ARE UNDER THE COBALTS TSBS I THINK. NOW IT'S THE SES LIGHT WITH A P0171 DTC CODE OR THE AIR FUEL MIXTURE IS OFF. I TOOK IT IN THREE (3) TIMES AND ON THE FINAL ONE THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION AND THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY GM NOT ONLY IN THE 2005-2006 CHEVY COBALT, THE 2005-2006 PONTIAC PURSUIT, AND THE 2005-2006 SATURN ION. ALL WHICH HAVE THE 2.2L ECOTEC L61 ENGINE. IT TROUBLES ME THAT THEY SAY THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND TO JUST KEEP BRINGING IT IN WHEN LIGHT COMES ON. THAT IS TRULY A PATHETIC ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM. THEY ARE COSTING ME TIME AND MONEY AND THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS. THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE THEY CANT SOLVE AND THAT IS AFFECTING 3 DIFFERENT CARS. MY 2005 CHEVY COBALT WAS TOWED IN FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 3 MONTHS. IT IS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD YET. ALL THREE TIMES HAVE BEEN EXACTLY THE SAME - I GO OUT TO START THE CAR IN THE MORNING & THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOES HAYWIRE AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. THIS FIRST 2 TIMES, THE DEALER SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM & THEY REPLACED EVERYTHING. THIS LAST TIME THEY SAID IT'S JUST A DEAD BATTERY. IF THAT IS THE CASE, WOULDN'T THEY HAVE FIGURED THAT OUT THE FIRST 2 TIMES? SOMETHING CLEARLY IS AWRY IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND IT IS DRAINING THE BATTERY. IF THERE HAS BEEN THE SAME RECALL ON 2009 CHEVELOT COBALT, IT SHOULD BE FOR 2005! I CAN TELL YOU OF 3 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR CARS TO BE ON THE ROAD WITH THIS ISSUE. TRANSMISSION SHIFT POSITION SEQUENCE, STARTER INTERLOCK, AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING EFFECT", AND FMVSS 114, "THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PREVENTION". ON SOME OF THESE VEHICLES, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE ADJUSTMENT CLIP MAY NOT BE FULLY ENGAGED. IF THE CLIP IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED, THE SHIFT LEVER AND THE ACTUAL POSITION OF THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT MATCH. WITH THIS CONDITION, THE DRIVE COULD MOVE THE SHIFTER TO "PARK" AND REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY, BUT THE TRANSMISSION GEAR MAY NOT BE IN "PARK". *TR
For the last several years I have been experiencing loss of the power steering and the electrical just going crazy lights flashing horn blowing. I’ve had a new computer put in and power steering still going out. I looked online and saw there was a recall for power steering motor in cobalt models 2005 through 2010 but when I put in my Vin number, it says my car has no recall. I need to know if there is a power steering motor recall on my car if someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.
AFTER HAVING THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES AND 1 YEAR LATER REPLACING TIRES AGAIN. CAN NOT OPEN PASSENGER FRONT DOOR WHILE PASSENGER BACK DOOR IS OPEN. THE HINGES ON DOOR SHIFTED AND THE DEALERSHIP AND GMAC SAID IT WAS OUR FAULT BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON THE CAR AND THEY AREN'T GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DOORS ARE CHIPPING AWAY THE PAINT ON THE CAR FROM THE DOORS HITTING IT. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO HAVE IT FIXED. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE WARRANTY YOU RECEIVE WHEN BUYING A NEW CAR? I THINK THERE IS A BIGGER PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE NO ONE WANTS TO ADMIT. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2005 COBALT ON A US ROUTE WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 55. THIS ROAD IS VERY HILLY AND CURVY. SHE WAS GOING UP A HILL AND WAS APPROACHING A CURVE, SO SHE TOOK HER FOOT OF THE GAS. SUDDENLY, THE CAR SHUT DOWN. SHE LOST POWER, POWER STEERING, EVERYTHING. SHE MANAGED TO STEER THE CAR TO THE BRIM OF THE ROAD. THE KEY WAS STILL ON. SHE TURNED THE KEY OFF, THEN BACK ON. THE ONLY THING SHE NOTICED DIFFERENT ON HER GAUGES, WAS THE COOLANT READ 223, IT NORMALLY RUNS 184-196. SHE HAD NO CELL PHONE SERVICE, SO SHE STARTED THE CAR AND DROVE TO HER GRANDMOTHER'S. EVERY TIME THE CAR SHIFTED GEARS (AN AUTOMATIC), IT JERKED AND LURCHED. SHE WAS SCARED TO DEATH. I CONTACTED THE GM DEALER WHERE WE PURCHASED IT AND TOOK IT RIGHT OVER, DRIVING VERY SLOW. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THIS, AND NOTHING SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER. I CONTACTED GM WHO FEEL THAT IF THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING, THEY CAN'T FIX IT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR MYSELF, LET ALONE LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE IT. I BEGAN RESEARCHING ON THIS SITE, AND HAVE FOUND TWELVE OTHER CASES, LISTED UNDER ELECTRICAL SYSTEM-IGNITION, IGNITION SWITCH ,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DEFECTS, AND EVEN UNDER ENGINE & ENGINE COOLING. THEY ALL DID NOT SHOW ANY THING ON THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS, THE CARS JUST SHUT OFF ON THEM AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. HAVE A 2005 CHEVY COBALT AND ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT ON VEHICLE. ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. AFTER GETTING IT OFF THE ROAD AND SHUTTING OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTING, WORKED OK. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CHECK, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SAID THEY HAD NO HISTORY OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD RESULTS IN DEATH OR INJURY. GM HAS TSBS OUT THERE, WHICH OF COURSE IS CUSTOMER PAY, AND THEY WILL CORRECT GM DEFECTIVE ISSUES. THE COST IS APPROX. $800.00. THERE HAVE BEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE SINCE 2005. WAS HIT FROM A CAR GOING 70 MILES PER HR. THE SEAT BELTS THAT MORNING WERE NOT WORKING FOR THE DRIVER SIDE, ENABLING MY MOTHER TO HAVE SAFETY PROTECTION. WE HAVE EVIDENCE AND PICTURES OF THIS, SHE WAS THROWN OUT OF THE CAR. THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY, BECAUSE WE WERE HIT AT SUCH A FAST SPEED, IT CAUSED OUR CAR TO SPIN AROUND IN CIRCLES AND RUN INTO A BUILDING. THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT ALSO DID NOT LOCK UP, CAUSING ME TO BE THROWN INTO THE DRIVER SEAT WITHOUT THE AIRBAGS PRESENCE TO KEEP ME IN PLACE. SEVERAL INCIDENTS INVOLVING STEERING OF 2005 COBALT 2-DOOR. EACH INCIDENT OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT 55 TO 65 MPH. FRONT END OF VEHICLE "JUMPED" SIDE TO SIDE AND STEERING WHEEL RESPONDED ONLY WITH CONSIDERABLE EFFORT. LAST OCCURRENCE WAS WITNESSED BY HIGHWAY PATROL WHO ESCORTED ME FROM THE FREEWAY WITH LIGHTS FLASHING. EVENTUALLY, DEALER DID REPLACE ENTIRE STEERING MECHANISM (2006) AND PROBLEM HAS NOT RECURRED. ALSO HAVE HAD TO HAVE BRAKING SYSTEM REPLACED AS WELL AS COMPONENTS RELATED TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. *TR
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE DEFECTIVE. WHEN FIRST BOUGHT CAR, THE FAN FOR THE HEATER WOULD NOT WORK. FINALLY, DEALERSHIP TOOK PARTS OUT OF A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, SINCE THERE WERE NO PARTS MADE YET DUE TO IT BEING BRAND NEW, AND REPLACED IT. BUT, IT STILL MAKES A WHINING WHEN IT IS ON #1 SETTING. THE CD PLAYER WOULD LOCK UP ALL THE TIME AND SIMPLY SAY "LOCKED". ACCORDING TO USER MANUAL, WE ARE ADVISED TO TAKE IT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY WILL FIX THAT PROBLEM. UPON TAKING CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR THAT PROBLEM, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT BECAUSE OF COURSE, IT DID NOT DO IT FOR THEM. SO, WE STOPPED TRYING TO EVEN USE THE CD PLAYER. THE LOCKED STATUS OCCURS FREQUENTLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. LIKE, WHEN GOING OVER A REAL BUMPY PART OF THE ROAD. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE LOCK BUTTON APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS AFRAID THE CAR WAS GOING TO TURN OFF ON ME. SOMETIMES THE WORD "LOCK" COMES ON IN THE RADIO DISPLAY AND SO THE CLOCK WON'T DISPLAY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS WRONG OR WHY IT IS DISPLAYED. THE REAL SCARY PART, THOUGH, IS WHEN THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYS THE "LOCK" ICON. BECAUSE I FEAR THAT THE VEHICLE WILL JUST STOP RUNNING SINCE I READ THAT IT DOES HAVE AN ANTI-THEFT FUNCTION THAT WILL STOP THE SUPPLY OF GAS TO THE CAR AND I WONDER IF/WHEN THIS WILL BEGIN MALFUNCTIONING. WILL I BE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING AT 65 MPS? I MEAN, MORE PEOPLE NEED TO LET CHEVY KNOW THAT THIS IS HAPPENING SO THAT IT CAN BE FIXED. LATELY, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. IT JUST WILL NOT START WHEN WE PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. ALL OTHER LIGHTS AND THINGS TURN ON, BUT THE ENGINE WON'T TURN OVER. WHY, WE DON'T KNOW. DEALER CLAIMS WE MUST HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM AND NOT GET IT JUMPED SO THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK AT IT TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG. HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES SO FAR. STILL NO RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. EACH TIME THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH DURING THE FAILURE. THE WHEEL UNLOCKED AFTER THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED FOUR TIMES. THE FOLLOWING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, ALL THE GAUGES FLUTTERED, THE FUEL GAGE SHOWED AN INACCURATE READING, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. ON ONE OCCASION THE DEALER REPLACED THE POWER STEERING HOUSING, BUT THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. ON ALL OTHER OCCASIONS THE DEALER COMPLETED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE GAS TANK WAS FULL OF GAS, HOWEVER THE LOW FUEL ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THE RADIO MALFUNCTIONED TWICE. UPDATED 04/06/06. *JB

IN MARCH OF 2006 I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH & THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AS SOON AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE THAT CAME FROM THE SHIFTER (WHERE YOU PUT IT IN PARK, REVERSE, DRIVE). THE CAR STARTED TO JERK FORWARD AT RANDOM & THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS I COULD & TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER LETTING IT SIT FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON & IT HAD RESET ITSELF. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO THEM IMMEDIATELY. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 WEEKS & WERE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR TO ACT UP WHILE ON THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. I HAD NUMEROUS EPISODES OVER THE NEXT 6 MONTHS INCLUDING MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 60-70 MILES ON THE FREEWAY. THEY COULD NEVER GET IT TO ACT UP DOING THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THEY CONTACTED GMAC; THE DEALERSHIP AGREED TO FIX THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE GOING TO REPLACE ONE OF THE COMPUTERS THAT THEY THOUGHT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND & JUST WRITE IT OFF SINCE BY THIS POINT THE MILEAGE WAS AT 31,000 BUT THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE MILEAGE WAS AT AROUND 10,000. WHEN I GOT THE CAR BACK IT WAS OCTOBER 2006. I DID NOT HAVE ANYMORE PROBLEMS UNTIL NOVEMBER 2009. I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE & IT DID THE WHOLE THING AGAIN. I TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF & CALLED A DEALERSHIP. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY KEPT IT FOR A MONTH AND A HALF. WHILE THEY HAD IT I WAS CALLING GMAC TO TRY & GET WHILE THEY HAD IT I WAS CALLING GMAC SINCE THE MILEAGE WAS AT 94,000. WHILE TALKING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT FRANK PARRA DEALERSHIP & GMAC THE COMPUTER WAS NEVER REPLACED; ONLY RELOADED. TO THIS DAY THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED & IT STILL HAPPENS AT RANDOM. IT HAS ALSO STARTED TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE LOCKS. THEY LOCK AT RANDOM & TRAP ME IN THE CAR OR WILL NOT LET ME IN. THERE IS A DEFINITE ELECTRONIC ISSUE!!!! *TR
