WHEN I ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR, NOTHING HAPPENS. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY. SOMETIMES AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WILL START, SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW DAYS. THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHERE IF I GO OVER A BUMP THE CAR WILL JUST DIE AND I WILL HAVE TO RESTART IT. IN TRAFFIC, THIS IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THIS IS AN IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEM. THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR THIS ON MY MODEL CAR, BUT I AM TOLD THAT MY VIN ISN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL. *TR

WAS HEADING TO WORK WHEN THE CHEVY COBALT SUDDENLY SHUT OFF, CAUSING ME TO LOSE POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING, AND CAUSING THE AIR BAGS NOT TO DEPLOY WHEN I WENT STRAIGHT THREW A STOP SIGN IMPACTING INTO A SNOW BANK. *TR

THIS HAPPENS TO ME ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS I WHEN I PARK MY CAR OR STOP DRIVING I TRY TO SHUT MY CAR OFF AND I CANNOT MY KEY WILL BE STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND STILL RUNNING FOR ABOUT UP TO 30 MINS MY LAST TIME THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME. WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE CAR FELT AS IF IT WAS SLIDING AND HIT A GUARDRAIL. THEN, SLIDE ALONGSIDE IT. THAT IMPACT PROPELLED MY CAR ACROSS THE STREET AND IT COLLIDED WITH A GUARD-WALL, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET, TOTALING THE VEHICLE. *TR

I WAS GETTING OFF AN EXIT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES ALSO WHEN I'M DRIVING THE KEY IF TOUCHED TURNS THE CAR OFF WHILE DRIVING. NO ACCIDENT BECAUSE PEOPLE AVOIDED ME HAD THERE BEEN AN ACCIDENT I WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT AND I AM AFRAID EVERYTIME I DRIVE. ALSO TO TAKE OUT THE KEY EVERYTIME I HAVE TO STICK MY FINGER IN THE HOLE UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL OTHERWISE IT STAYS STUCK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WILL MOVE TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION CONSTANTLY AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. IT WAS TAKEN TO RICK HENDRICK CHEVY ON SAVVANAH HWY IN CHARLESTON BY A YOUNG WOMAN. THEY REPAIRED IT AND ALLOWED HER TO DRIVE OFF WITH THE VEHICLE KNOWING IT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY PUT HER LIFE IN JEOPARDY. *TR
I HAD THE IGNITION CYLINDER REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, DUE TO THE KEY NOT BEING ABLE TO RELEASE. THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2005 MODEL YEAR COBALTS. WELL, THE VEHICLE IS DOING THIS AGAIN. THE KEY IS NOT BEING RELEASED FROM THE IGNITION CYLINDER. HOWEVER, THIS TIME I BELIEVE IT IS THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY THAT HAS GONE BAD. THERE IS NO REVERSE LOCK OUT. I CAN FREELY CYCLE THROUGH THE GEARS WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I CAN PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKES BY SIMPLY MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER. LITTLE TO NO FORCE IS NEEDED, I CAN ACCIDENTALLY KNOCK THE LEVER INTO REVERSE WITH THE LITTLEST OF FORCE. I HAVE YET TO CONTACT THE DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE SINCE I AM SURE IT WILL COST A FORTUNE TO FIX EVEN THOUGH IT IS A DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH A FEW TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE ISSUE. *TR

CAR HAS SHUT OFF TWICE IN THE PAST 4-5 WEEKS. IT HAPPENS ON ROUGH ROAD. ENGINE DIES AND CAR SHUTS OFF. CAR HAS TO BE RESTARTED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ON THE ROAD. RECALL HAS BEEN NOTED ON MEDIA AND NEWSPAPER ARTICLE FOR 2005 CHEVROLET COBALT. THESE INCIDENTS WHEN CAR SHUTS OFF ACTUALLY HAPPENED BEFORE I SEEN THE RECALL ON THE NEWS. WHEN I CALLED CHEVROLET TO REPORT ISSUE I WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED TO WAIT FOR RECALL LETTER BEFORE I COULD GET THE REPAIR DONE. I FEEL THAT DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE AND MY CAR ACTUALLY HAVING THIS PROBLEM THAT I SHOULD NOT WAIT UNTIL APRIL FOR RECALL LETTER. I WAS TOLD RECALL LETTERS WOULD NOT GO OUT UNTIL APRIL 2014. THIS SAME PROBLEM ALSO HAPPENED TO MY COBALT LAST YEAR ON 3-4 OCCASIONS DURING WINTER MONTHS WHEN ROADS ARE MORE ROUGH. GM'S NUMBER FOR INITIAL RECALL IS 13454 AND 14063 FOR THE EXPANSION RECALL. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM REPORTING THIS DUE TO SAFETY ISSUE ON THE ROAD. NEED THIS CAR FOR WORK! *TR

THE TOPS OF TWO OF MY CAR'S FOUR LOCK PLUNGERS HAS BROKEN OFF RENDERING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO UNLOCK MANUALLY. THIS COUPLED WITH ELECTRONIC LOCK FAILURE IS A GREAT SAFETY CONCERN. IF THERE WERE AN ACCIDENT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGER IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT TO EXIT SAFELY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION, WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS RUSTED AND WOULD NEED A TOTAL REPLACEMENT. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE LINE COULD BE MENDED AS A TEMPORARY REPAIR. THE FUEL LINE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000. WHILE DRIVING MY COBALT FROM ANYWHERE BETWEEN 10MPH TO 50MPH MULTIPLE "DING" NOISES OCCUR. THEN ANY NUMBER OF ALERT LIGHTS COME ON INCLUDING; TRACTION CONTROL, AIR BAG, CHECK ENGINE, ETC... THERE IS A STRANGE CLICKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM SOMEWHERE IN THE DASH. THE SCARIEST AND MOST DANGEROUS PART IS THAT THE CAR HAS EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER STEERING AT SPEED AND LOSS OF BRAKING CONTROL. DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY APPROX. 50-55 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR DROPPED TO APPROX 20 MPH. DASH READING SAID 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' AND MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. NOTHING WOULD MAKE THE CAR GO FASTER, LUCKILY NOBODY WAS BEHIND ME. CAR KEPT ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE. GOT THE CAR TO MY IN-LAWS, WHICH WAS ONLY 5 MINUTES AWAY AND WE UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THE BATTERY TOGETHER, THE CAR SEEMED FINE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND SAID THEY CAN'T GET A CODE BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS UNPLUGGED. I CALLED GMC AND THEY TOLD ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE CODE. I HAVE CHILDREN WHO SIT IN THE BACK OF MY CAR AND I AM NOT WAITING FOR THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN AGAIN, IF I AM ON THE INTERSTATE AND CARS ARE BEHIND ME, THEY ARE GOING TO RUN INTO ME, AS THERE WAS NO WARNING THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. VEHICLE WAS PARKED INSIDE GARAGE, FILLING TIRES WITH AIR. A CIGARETTE LIGHTER POWERED AIR COMPRESSOR WAS BEING USED TO FILL TIRES. WAS ONLY IN USE FOR A FEW MINUTES, WHEN AIR COMPRESSOR STOPPED. THE FUSE FOR THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS BLOWN. THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE FUSE FOR THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WOULD BE BLOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE ONLY USED IT IN THE PAST TO USE MY OBD II SCANNER, BEING THAT THE OBD DIAGNOSTIC PORT IS POWERED BY THE SAME FUSE AS THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. BESIDES USING THE OBD SCANNER, NO OTHER THINGS HAVE BEEN USED VIA THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. REGARDLESS THE FUSE WOULD BE BLOWN. AFTER THE FUSE WAS BLOWN WITH THE AIR COMPRESSOR, I UNPLUGGED IT FROM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, ONLY TO SEE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FUSE MELTED IN THE FUSE BLOCK. FROM THERE, THE WINDOW WIPERS BEGAN OPERATING, AS WELL AS THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID BEING SHOT OUT FROM THE NOZZLES. SMOKE BEGAN POURING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR, FROM UNDER THE DASH. I QUICKLY RAN TO THE TRUNK WHERE THE BATTERY IS LOCATED, AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AS SOON AS I COULD. GARAGE WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE, WITH THE OMINOUS BURNT ELECTRONIC SMELL. *TR
