MY CAR START LOOSING ELECTRICAL POWER AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING IT DOES IT OFTEN ESPECIALLY WHEN I TURN OR STOP FOR A LIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR FOR THE RECALL TO MONDAY CHEVROLET RECENTLY IT TOOK TO WEEKS FOR THEM TO FIX IT, THEY PUT ME IN RENTAL CAR THAT I ENDED PAYING 192.00 FOR FEES WHICH THEY NEVER TOLD ME I WAS GOING TO PAY FOR DEPOSIT. WHEN I GOT CAR BACK FEELS WEAR AND THE CAR STILL DO SAME THING NOW MORE I AM DRIVING AND ENGINE TURN OFF , I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN ON THE CAR AGAIN AND I CALL BACK CUSTOMER SERVICE CONTACT MONDAY CHEVROLET THEY WILL SET AN APPOINTMENT TO LOOK AT IT AGAIN BUT IF IS NOT RELATED I WILL HAVE TO PAY 95.00 FOR THEM TO CHECK IT . I WILL RATHER TAKE MY CAR TO MY OWN MECHANIC IF THIS RESULT RELATED I WILL BE CALLING THIS DEALER AGAIN. I AM VERY UNSATISFIED AND FRUSTRATED . *TR
WHILE DRIVING, MY POWER STEERING FLASHED ON AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOUR YEARS AGO BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE GM ASSIST ME IN THE APPROPRIATE WAY TO HANDLE THIS ISSUE. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN OCT WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN DASH LIGHTS UP FLASHING DINGING GOING CRAZY THE CAR KEEPS JERKING FORWARD LIKE ITS TRYING TO SHIFT INTO A GEAR FOR THE WHOLE 40 MIN DRIVE IT DROVE FINE ON THE WAY HOME . IT HAS DONE THIS MAYBE THREE TIMES SINCE THE OTHER DAY I WAS DRIVING MY GRAND CHILDREN TO SCHOOL WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO JERK FORWARD THEN JUST STOPPED RUNNING AND LOST POWER STEERING , IN A THREE WAY INTERSECTION , MY CAR FINALLY STARTED UP AFTER ABOUT 10 MINS. IN OCT WHEN THE CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS I CALLED OUR DEALER THEY SAID THE CAR HAD ALL THE RECALLS DONE THAT IT WOULD COST 90 TO CHECK IT OUT AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING UNLESS IT WAS HAVING THE ISSUES AT THE TIME THEY HAD THE VEHICLE I ENDED UP CALLING GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM ONLY TO BE TOLD I AM SORRY THAT YOU HAD A STRESSFUL MORNING WE CAN GIVE YOU A CASE NUMBER AND WILL GET BACK TO YOU WITHIN 24 TO 48 HOURS MAY CAR NOW SETS AT MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE I WILL NOT BE DRIVING THIS CAR FOR FEAR I MAY INJURY OR KILL MY GRANDCHILDREN OR OTHERS THIS VEHICLE ID A DEATH TRAP GM NEEDS TO OWN UP AND BUY OUT THESE VEHICLES SO UPSET RIGHT NOW SHAME ON THEM HOW MANY LIVES NEED TO BE LOST BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING THIS TIME? *TR
I'VE HAD SEVERAL RECALLS ON MY CAR. AIR BAGS, POWER STEERING, IGNITION SWITCH. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO GET 2 OF THESE FIXED BECAUSE THE OTHERS WERE NOT "VALID" RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. ONE OF THE ISSUES THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HAS IS THAT THE CAR TURNS OFF. THE CAR. TURNS. OFF. I DON'T KNOW WHY AND I DON'T KNOW HOW. I JUST KNOW, THE CAR TURNS OFF. THIS HAS BEEN A DAILY BATTLE FOR ME. IT STARTED A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS RELEASED AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. I WAS DRIVING ACROSS AN INTERSECTION, THE LIGHT JUST TURNED GREEN, A FEW CARS IN FRONT OF ME. I PRESS THE GAS SLIGHTLY & MY CAR TURNS OFF. I WASN'T EVEN GOING 10 MPH. I WASN'T EVEN GOING MORE THAN 5! ANOTHER INCIDENT A FEW DAYS PRIOR, I WAS COMING TO ANOTHER INTERSECTION AND ANOTHER CAR IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WAS MAKING A LEFT SO HE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT GOING SO FAST THAT I COULD'VE STOPPED AND HE COULD'VE PASSED. JUST AS I WAS APPROACHING THE LINES TO CROSS INTO THE INTERSECTION, MY CAR TURNED OFF AGAIN. MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY TURNING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY IT'S TRAFFIC SO IT'S GOING SLOW BUT IT HAS HAPPENED THAT MY CAR WILL JUST TURN OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF ME ACTUALLY DRIVING! THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES THAT I AM TRYING TO MAKE A TURN AND MY CAR TURNS OFF. MID TURN! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.DO YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THAT IS? IT JUST REMINDS ME OF THOSE MOVIES WHERE THOSE SILLY PEOPLE GET STUCK ON TRAIN TRACKS. WHY WOULD YOU PARK OR STAY ON A TRAIN TRACK? OH, I KNOW, JUST OWN A CHEVROLET! IT'LL CONSTANTLY TURN OFF. THANKFULLY, I HAVE NOT GOTTEN STUCK ON A TRAIN TRACK BUT WHAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED IS JUST AS DANGEROUS. I AM CONSTANTLY DRIVING AROUND WITH OTHER PEOPLE AND CHILDREN. MY CAR CONSTANTLY TURNING OFF, ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IS A GREAT HAZARD TO MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS. I FEAR MY LIFE DRIVING THIS CAR. :( *TR

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CYLINDER KIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 155,214.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL SHORT PERTAINING TO THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER GAUGE FAILED, THE POWER STEERING SENSOR ILLUMINATED, AND, AT VARIOUS POINTS IN TIME, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. THIS RESULTING IN AN INCREASED DIFFICULTY STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND ALTHOUGH THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR, WHICH WAS UNDER A RECALL, THEY ALSO NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY SINCE IT TOO WAS DAMAGED, AS REPLACING THE MOTOR DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT CONFIRM OR DENY THAT THE ISSUE OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING BEING THE RESULT OF THE MOTOR FAILING OR THE STEERING COLUMN FAILING. THEY ALSO COULD NOT CONFIRM OR DENY IF IT WAS THE MOTOR FAILING THAT CAUSED THE FAILURE IN THE COLUMN TO NEED REPLACED AS WELL. IF IT WAS INDEED NOT THE MOTOR THAT FAILED AND INSTEAD THE STEERING COLUMN FAILING DUE TO MANUFACTURER ERROR DOES THAT NOT PRODUCE A SIMILAR ISSUE OF SAFETY AS THE FAILING OF THE MOTOR (WHICH IS CURRENTLY RECALLED). *TR
MY POWER STEERING FAILED AT 80K MILES. I TRIED TO FIX IT MYSELF BUT NOTICED IT'S ELECTRONIC AND CAN'T BE FIXED UNLESS YOU BRING IT TO A DEALER. I CHECK ONLINE AND LO AND BEHOLD, THERE'S A RECALL! EXCUSE ME IF I WASN'T THE LEAST BIT SURPRISED. AND GUESS WHAT, JUST LIKE MY FORMER RECALL FOR THE FAULTY FUEL PUMP, MY CAR'S YEAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL! I'M TRYING TO GET REIMBURSED FOR THIS BUT IT'S LIKE PULLING TEETH TALKING TO SOME FOREIGN PERSON WITH A THICK HEAVY ACCENT WHO DOESN'T WANT TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR. I'M SO SICK OF GM! WHY DON'T THEY JUST STOP SELLING CARS BECAUSE THEY'RE NO GOOD AT IT. HOW MANY LIVES MUST THEY TOY WITH BEFORE THEY REALIZE THIS!? NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WILL KEEP PURSUING THEM UNTIL I GET REIMBURSED!

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), THE KEY WAS LOOSE WHEN IT WAS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE KEY WOULD TIGHTEN ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND OPENED THE TRUNK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,660.
I LIVE IN BUFFALO, NY SO THIS IS MORE OF A PROBLEM THAN NOT. DURING THE COLD MONTHS WENT HE TEMPERATURE GOES BELOW 20 DEGREES THE CAR FAILS TO START. I HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, SPARK PLUGS, INTAKE, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, AND BATTERY. I WILL BE TRYING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEXT. THE CAR WILL CRANK STRONG, AND CONTINUE TO CRANK FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. IT WILL THEN STOP, AND BEGIN TO CRANK AGAIN WHEN THE KEY IS AGAIN TURNED. HOWEVER THE CAR NEVER TURNS OVER. THE ONLY THING I CAN IMAGINE IS THAT SOMETHING IS COMMUNICATING WITH THE ECM OR ECU, NOT TO START. THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN IT IS VERY COLD OUT AS I PURCHASED THE CAR IN LATE SEPTEMBER, THEREFORE I HAVE TO EXPERIENCE WITH THE VEHICLE IN WARM TEMPERATURES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE DOOR LOCKS WENT UP AND DOWN AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE ENGINE RACED AND RPM GAGE WENT UP SIGNIFICANTLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED FORCING THE CONTACT TO MERGE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WHICH RESET THE COMPUTER BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR CIRCUIT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
LETTER FROM SENATOR RUBIO ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE A FAULTY IGNITION PROBLEM IN 2006 COBALT. *SMD THE CONSUMER AND HIS WIFE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THEY SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES.*JB
I HAVE A SERIOUS LEAK IN MY FUEL TANK. THE LOCATION OF THIS LEAK IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE REAR TIRE. THE FUMES ARE SO STRONG IT CAN BE SMELLED OVER 50FT AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. I HAVE LITERALLY HAD GAS LEAK ONTO A FRIENDS HAND WHEN THEY LEANED DOWN TO CHECK FOR A LEAK. I MYSELF AM A 24 YEAR OLD FEMALE, MY PASSENGERS ON A DAILY BASIS INCLUDE A 24 YEAR OLD MALE, AND TWO CHILDREN ONE OF WHICH IS MY FOUR YEAR OLD SON AND A FIVE YEAR OLD GIRL! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILIES AS WELL AS FRIENDS ARE EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY! I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY AS WELL! YOU HAVE A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE BUT ONLY LIMITED TO A FEW SPECIFIC STATES! I HAVE THE SMELL OF GASOLINE COMING FROM THE CAR AND FIND THAT IT IS COMING FROM THE AREA OF THE GAS TANK. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FIND THAT CERTAIN COBALT MODELS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS MATTER. WHERE THE SEAL AROUND THE FUEL PUMP CRACKS AND LEAKS. HOWEVER I AM TOLD THAT FOR SOME REASON MY COBALT MODEL IS NOT IN RECALL FOR THIS SITUATION. WHY NOT. IF SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM THEN OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE CORRECTED WITH THIS VEHICLE AS WELL. HI THERE ABOUT TWO THREE WEEKS AGO I STARTED SMELLING FUEL EVERY TIME I GOT OUT OF MY CAR. MY HUSBAND CHECKED AND IT LOOKS THERE IS A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK THAT OR THE TUBE THAT ALLOWS THE GAS TO FLOW IS CRACKED. I SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS BUT ONLY IN VEHICLES THAT ARE IN NEVADA,ARIZONA AND TEXAS.I AM NOT DRIVING THE CAR CURRENTLY DUE TO SAFETY REASONS. AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY WAS PERFORMED THE IGNITION KEY WOULD ONLY RELEASED WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN BUTTON KEY RELEASE WAS ENGAGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD CAME ON AND WHEN I HAD TO ACCELERATE THEN THE CAR STARTED SHIFTING REALLY ROUGHLY. I WAS HALF WAY TO MY DESTINATION AND THEN THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CAR SHIFTED SMOOTHLY ON ACCELERATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED LIT BUT THE CAR SEEM TO RUN FINE. WHEN I GOT HOME I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS OVER 1800 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. MY CAR IS NOW PARKED BECAUSE I THINKS ITS NOT RELIABLE. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE, YET, ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE COBALT. *TR

THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EMIT AN ODOR OF FUEL WHEN PARKED, NOT RUNNING. A FEW DAYS LATER A VISIBLE PUDDLE OF FUEL WAS UNDER THE BODY OF THE CAR. THIS HAS BEEN RECURRING EVERY DAY SINCE THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. NOW A VISIBLE LEAK FROM ABOVE THE FUEL TANK CAN BE SEEN DRIPPING FUEL AT AN ACCELERATED RATE. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN CHANGING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE FIRST TIME THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM BEGAN, BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN OH SO MANY OTHERS, I TURNED ON THE CAR AND A POWER STEERING MESSAGED APPEARED. THERE WAS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING ELSE, JUST THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE. THIS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. THEN ONE EVENING WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR STARTED TO HOP, THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE CAME ON WITH A DINGING ALARM, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 5 MPH, AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE, ALONG WITH THE BREAKS. IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN OR STOP THE CAR. WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD, WHERE WE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND ON A FEW TIMES. EACH TIME WITH NO SUCCESS IN FIXING THE ISSUE. FINALLY AFTER LETTING IT REST FOR ABOUT 15 MIN, WE WERE ABLE TO TURN IT ON AND IT RETURNED TO NORMAL. SINCE THEN, INTERMITTENTLY THE "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE COMES ON AND DINGS, THE CAR HOPS, AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $800. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS, SINCE MY STEERING COLUMN HAS RARELY BEEN MOVE, MAYBE A TOTAL OF 30 SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2006. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH EVERY PART THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED A RECALL SO FAR AND THEN SOME. THE LATEST ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR IS LEAKING GASOLINE UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS IN 2009, BUT ONLY FOR VEHICLES IN CERTAIN STATES, IN WHICH I DO NOT RESIDE. I HAVE ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH MY IGNITION FOR SEVERAL YEARS, SO IT IS GOOD NEWS THAT A RECALL HAS COME UP FOR IT. BEFORE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP, I HAD NO POWER STEERING FOR SIX MONTHS PRIOR. I THINK THAT IT IS REPULSIVE THAT GM CAN MANUFACTURE THIS CAR AND JUST ISSUE RECALL AFTER RECALL WITH NO CONSEQUENCE. *TR
GAS LEAKS FROM TOP OF GAS TANK, CAN CAUSE FIRE, AND THROTTLE SWITCH CAUSES ENGINE TO LOOSE POWER, I HAVE HAD IT CLEANED AND IT WORKS, BUT NOW I HAVE SECOND COBALT, AND IT DOES THE SAME THING WITH THROTTLE SWITCH CAUSING CAR TO RUN UNDER 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE POWER REDUCTION CAN CAUSE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT AND THE LEAKY GAS TANK CAN CATCH FIRE. SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE ASAP. *TR

THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG FUEL ODOR NEAR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE O-RING GASKET WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
THE ACTIVATING SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG FAILED AROUND 78,000 MILES. THIS SEAT SWITCH ACTIVATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM WHEN AN OCCUPANT SITS DOWN IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I WAS TOLD AT THE TIME WE HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL REPAIR DONE TO THE CAR THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE THE BROKEN SEAT SWITCH WAS TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SEAT COVER. TO DO THIS REQUIRES AN INITIAL OUTLAY OF $150.00 DOLLARS FOR THE PART( THE SWITCH IS WOVEN INTO THE SEAT FABRIC)PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL(PRICE UNKNOWN)AT THE DEALERSHIP. WITHOUT REGARD TO AGE,WEIGHT OR GENDER ANY FRONT SEAT PASSENGER MAY BELIEVE THEY ARE PROTECTED UPON READING THE DASHBOARD 'AIRBAG' SIGN WHEN SITTING IN THE CAR. THE PANEL-MOUNTED INDICATOR FOR THAT AIRBAG IS A LIGHTED DISPLAY WHICH, IN DAYLIGHT, IS HARD TO SEE WITHOUT CUPPING YOUR HAND OVER THE ANNUNCIATOR-OR WAIT UNTIL NIGHTFALL , GET SOMEBODY TO SIT IN THE SEAT, AND THEN CHECK OUT THE DASH LIGHT.

AT APPROXIMATELY 7:47AM CST ON AUGUST 7TH 2014, I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE ENGINE AND ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DIED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND SAFELY DRIVE, WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS/OTHER DASH WARNINGS, APPROXIMATELY HALF A MILE BACK HOME. THERE WAS NO WARNING ON THE DASH (IE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) BEFORE THE MASSIVE FAILURE OCCURRED; IT WAS INSTANTLY DEAD. THIS FITS THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE IN THE AFFECTED GM MODELS. I WAS ONE TURN FROM MERGING ON THE FREEWAY. HAD THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED A MINUTE LATER, THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE INJURY/LOSS OF LIFE WAS GREAT. I HAVE BEEN WAITING ON A LIST SINCE APRIL TO GET THE DEFECTED IGNITION SWITCH REPAIRED. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES FOR UPDATES, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD UP TO 800 PEOPLE WERE AHEAD OF ME FOR REPAIRS. WHEN I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO GM VIA THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL HOTLINE, THEY SUDDENLY FOUND THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR MY CAR. THIS IS SUSPECT TO ME. THEY ARE ALSO CLAIMING THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS NOT IGNITION SWITCH RELATED, BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT THIS WAS A NEAR-MISS INCIDENT WITH POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC IMPLICATIONS THAT FITS ALL DESCRIPTIONS OF IGNITION SWITCH FAILURES. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS BY GM TO DRIVE WITH ONLY THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TO AVOID BUMPY ROADS, BUT THIS INCIDENTS HAS MADE ME FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. GM IS NOT TREATING THIS DEFECT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AS SERIOUSLY AS IT NEEDS TO, AS THE POSSIBILITY FOR SEVERE INJURY/LOSS OF LIGHT IS GREAT. THERE IS NO WARNING THAT POWER WILL BE LOST. SHE WAS ALSO INFORMED, THE REMOTE STARTER WOULD BE DISCONNECTED AND THEY WERE NOT LIABLE TO RECONNECT IT. THE ADVISOR STATED IT WAS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO RECONNECT THE REMOTE STARTER AND AFTER THE RECALL PART WAS INSTALLED THE REMOTE STARTER WOULD NO LONGER WORK AND SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY SOMEONE TO RECONNECT THE REMOTE STARTER. THE CONSUMER LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITHOUT GETTING THE RECALL DONE. *JB

2006 COBALT THAT HAD THE 2 RECALLS "FIXED" BY A DEALERSHIP. AT THE SUGGESTION OF THE DEALERSHIP, ALSO HAD WIRING FIXED AND A NEW SHIFTER ASSEMBLY INSTALLED AT $380+ EXTREME AND DANGEROUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS: #1 - WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ALL GAUGES GO TO ZERO, ALL LIGHTS ON THE DASH TURN ON AND THE MILEAGE READS ----------------- (ALL DASHES) #2 - THE CAR DOES NOT START CONSISTENTLY. TURN THE KEY AND IT HAS POWER, THE LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH, THE HEADLIGHTS COME ON, BUT THE CAR WILL NOT START. MULTIPLE VISITS TO DEALERSHIPS AND REPAIR FACILITIES AND EACH ONES SAYS: THEY SAY IT IS NOT A BAD PART, THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THEY SAY THERE IS NO CODES. THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. THEY SAY IT STARTED EVERY TIME FOR THEM. THEY SAY THE GAUGES NEVER DROP. THEY CANNOT FIX IT. THIS CAR HAS A MAJOR/SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE FIGURED OUR AND REPAIRS PAID FOR MY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
MY CAR WAS PART OF THE GM RECALL FOR THE INCORRECT IGNITION SWITCHES. IT WAS RETURNED TO ME ON JULY 23RD, FIXED OR SO I WAS TOLD WITH A NEW IGNITION TO FIX THE ISSUE. HOWEVER WITHIN A WEEK OF HAVING THE CAR BACK, IT WAS DOING THE SAME AS BEFORE THE RECALL FIX WAS DONE. SLIPPING INTO ACCESSIBILITY MODE AND NOT GIVING ME ANY OPTION TO HIT THE GAS, ONLY PULL OFF IF I WAS ABLE, TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON AND GO. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I WAS GOING UPWARDS OF 40 MPH. THE LAST FEW TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED WAS PULLING FROM MY STREET INTO A BUSY STREET WITH TRAFFIC GOING UPWARDS OF 55 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OFF AS QUICKLY AS I COULD ONTO THE SHOULDER AND TURN OFF THE CAR, BACK ON AGAIN AND GO MEANWHILE HOPING TO NOT BE HIT. I CONTACTED GM AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT MY RECALLED PART WAS FIXED AND THIS HAD TO BE ANOTHER ISSUE. HOWEVER, IT'S THE EXACT ISSUE THAT HAPPENED BEFORE MY CAR WAS FIXED. I'M 7 MONTHS PREGNANT AND OFTEN DRIVE WITH MY 16 MONTH OLD SON IN THIS CAR WITH ME. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AND CANNOT JUST GO PURCHASE A NEW CAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THERE WAS NO DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 141,286.

WHEN THE COMPANY RECALLED THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH AFFECTS THE AIRBAG SYSTEM, WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT DIDN'T FIX THE AIRBAG SYSTEM PROBLEM. IN THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD DISPLAY SCREEN THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WASN'T RELATED. HE WROTE ON THE SERVICE INVOICE FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL, "AIR BAG WARNING RELATED TO NO COMMUNICATION FROM AIRBAG MODULE".
ELECTRONIC DISPLAY GOES COMPLETELY BLACK WHILE IN MOTION OR STATIONARY AT TIMES WITH NO WARNING THEN RETURNS TO NORMAL OR PARTIAL INFORMATION DISPLAYS. ALSO, DISPLAY BLINKS WEIRD CODES AND SYMBOLS AT TIMES THEN RETURNS TO NORMAL WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
I HAVE HAD TWO OF THESE MODELS IN OUR SHOP AND BOTH BEING 2006 MODELS. THE FUEL LINES ARE RUSTING OUT AT THE SUPPORT CLAMP NEAR THE FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THIS LOCATION IS ABOUT 4 INCHES FROM THE EXHAUST. FUEL SPRAYS ON TO EXHAUST AND VAPORIZES. THIS ALLOWS FUMES TO ENTER THE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. FUMES ARE DANGEROUS AND CAUSING DRIVER TO BECOME WEAK AND DROWSY. THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENT IS HIGHER THEN THAT OF A POLITICIAN ACTUALLY DOING THEIR JOB.... PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS.
