TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED AND CAUSED A FUEL LEAKAGE. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COLBALT. THE CAR CONSTANTLY STALLS IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK IT TO THE MACHANIC AND HE STATED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT IS VERY COMMON IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL CAR. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED IT AS A HIGH SPEED COMMUNICATION BUS WHICH IS PART OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT'S WHY IS STALLS. AKA FLY BY WIRE. HAVE HAD TWO RECALLS. WE ARE HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT WHEN I WAS DRIVING TO MY PARENTS HOUSE I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE POWER STEERING I SLIGHTLY HIT THE FENCE. I DID TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF THE RECALL AND HAD THE POWER STEERING MOTOR REPLACED HOWEVER THE PROBLEM PERSIST AND IT TURNS OUT ITS THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. ISN'T IT SUPPOSE TO BE A RECALL FOR THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V419000 ( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I TOOK MY 2006 COBALT TO A MECHANIC TODAY TO INVESTIGATE A STRONG FUEL ODOR THAT HAS PERSISTED FOR ABOUT ONE WEEK. I WAS ALSO EXPERIENCING IGNITION DELAYS. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED A CRACK AND IN THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM OF MY CAR. THE MECHANIC INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTACT LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERS ABOUT A RECALL, REFERENCING NHTSA RECALL BULLETIN 09V419000. DESPITE THIS INFORMATION, NO DEALERS CONFIRMED THE RECALL. THE ONLY RECALL AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO THE DEALERS HAS TO DO WITH A POWER STEERING ISSUE. I FOUND INFORMATION ONLINE IN CHEVROLET FORUMS ABOUT ANOTHER POTENTIAL RECALL CODED 06090 OR 06090A THAT DESCRIBES THE SAME ISSUE AS THE AFOREMENTIONED NHTSA BULLETIN. MY VIN NUMBER FALLS IN THE RANGE LISTED WITH 06090. NO DEALERS COULD CONFIRM THIS EITHER. I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF MY VEHICLE IS ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL RELATED REPAIRS. IT SEEMS AS IF IT SHOULD BE, JUDGING BY ALL THE INFORMATION I HAVE GATHERED. NOTE: THE MILEAGE LISTED ABOVE IS AN ESTIMATE. THE FUEL ODOR HAS PERSISTED SINCE JUST BEFORE 69000 MILES AND STILL PERSISTS, AS MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS AROUND 69,100.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS THEN NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REGISTERED IN A STATE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY WOULD BECOME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000. UPDATED 12/01/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE KEY WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THERE WAS NO RELEASE BUTTON TO REMOVE IT. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE ON, OR LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED A TIMES AND THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT WORK AND THE WINDOWS WOULDN'T ROLL DOWN. UPDATED 12/08/11 UPDATED 12/12/11 THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE APPLIED TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED OTHER PROBLEMS DUE TO THE PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION. AFTER PARKING CAR AND SHUTTING OFF THE IGNITION THE KEY WILL GET STUCK AND NOT COME OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. YOU HAVE TO EITHER TURN THE IGNITION BACK ON OR JIGGLE THE KEY AROUND IN THE SLOT IN ORDER FOR IT TO RELEASE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS BEGAN TO OPEN AND CLOSE ERRATICALLY. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED EXCESSIVE EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE. THERE WERE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF WHICH ONES ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED TO VERIFY IF THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE POWER STEERING IN MY '06 CHEVY COBALT SUDDENLY DIED, AND CONTINUES TO DIE EVERY TIME I TURN ON THE CAR. THE CAR WAS WORKING PERFECTLY FINE BEFOREHAND. THIS IS A RECENT PROBLEM FOR ME BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF RESEARCH I SEE THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THEIR '05-'07 COBALTS. *TR
I WAS UNDER MY CAR INSPECTING IT FOR A LEAK FROM SPOTS I SAW ON THE DRIVE WAY. I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY IT WAS A FUEL LEAK NEAR THE GAS TANK WHEN IT DECIDED TO CATCH ON FIRE WITH ME UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I WAS NOT INJURED BUT THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I HAD PREVIOUSLY ASKED THE DEALER TO DO ANY RECALL WORK NEEDED WHEN MY POWER STEERING PUMP HAD GONE BAD. THEY TOLD ME THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS THE ONLY RECALL ISSUED FOR MY VEHICLE. I FOUND OUT NOW, OVER A YEAR LATER THAT SOME WERE RECALLED FOR A FUEL LINE PROBLEM LIKE THIS, AND MINE HAS A VIN THAT MATCHES THE RECALL, BUT SINCE MINE WAS NOT SOLD IN A STATE COVERED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW BEFORE CRAWLING UNDER THE CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE RAINY DAY, ABOUT 45MPH, DASH LIT UP TO SHIFT. I LOOKED AND I WAS ALREADY IN 5TH. NEXT SECOND EVERYTHING ON DASH WENT OUT. NO SPEEDOMETER, NO SHIFT LIGHT, NO MILEAGE OR TRIP METER, NOTHING. ONLY THING ON DASH THAT WORKS IS TACH AND DIGITAL DISPLAY SAYS POWER STEERING. ALREADY HAD AN APPOINTMENT FOR RECALL WORK FOR POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THAT WAS WHAT WAS WRONG SO I KEPT APPOINTMENT. WHEN GOT BACK FROM DEALER, THEY TELL ME THEY REPLACED POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR AND THEY HAD NOTICED THE DASH DISPLAY AND HAD DONE SCAN AND IT SHOWED THE POWER STEERING MOTOR IS WENT OUT! BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER, TO DRIVE BACK IN FORTH TO SCHOOL, SCARED FOR HER TO DRIVE IT THE 90 MILES A DAY SHE DRIVES TO COLLEGE. THOUGHT THIS WAS JUST AN ISOLATED CASE BUT AFTER CHECKING ONLINE, I SEE THAT THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT IN THESE CARS. SOMETHING NEEDS DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A PLASTIC PART, POSITIONED ON TOP OF THE FUEL TANK, WAS CRACKED. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL PUMP AND LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V419000 (COMPONENT: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,200.
THIS IS THE 2ND COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED FOR MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT. THE FIRST INVOLVED THE STEERING PROBLEM,WHICH WAS EVENTUALLY RECALLED, BUT NOT UNTIL I SPENT SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS, FOR WHICH I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN REIMBURSED. ON JULY 21, 2011, WHICH HIT OVER 100 DEGREES INN CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA, I BEGAN SMELLING GASOLINE AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO THE FACT THAT WE WERE UNDER AN OZONE ACTION ALERT, BUT WHEN THE PROBLEM DID NOT RESOLVE AND BECAME WORSE I CONTACTED THE DEALER. LIKE MANY OTHER CHEVY COBALT, SATURN ION, AND PONTIAC GS OWNERS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM A LEAKY FUEL PUMP. DESPITE MY ATTEMPTS TO GET THE PROBLEM RESOLVED, I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AMONG THE LIMITED VIN NUMBERS THAT QUALIFIED UNDER A VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN #09V419000 NOR DID I LIVE IN ONE OF THE STATES THAT QUALIFIED. MY DEALER TOLD ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE A CASE TO FILE FOR SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT #09275A. WHICH DID INCLUDE MY VIN,, BUT MY MILEAGE WAS TOO HIGH. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO SPEND ANOTHER $496.27 TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM MYSELF, AND THAT WAS WITH A COURTESY DISCOUNT FROM THE DEALER. WHILE I FULLY UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT THAT EVEN GOOD PARTS WILL EVENTUALLY WEAR OUT, IT IS STILL NOT UNREASONABLE TO EXPECT THAT A KNOWN FAILURE OF A PARTICULAR PART SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. IF OTHER DRIVERS RECEIVE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A FAULTY PART REPLACED, ALL DRIVERS WHO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM SHOULD REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY LIVE AND WHAT THE VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN THAT PROBLEM CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH SUCH AS A FIRE THAT MIGHT OCCUR FROM LEAKING FUEL OR HAVING STEERING GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. MY DEALER WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECTLY FINE WITH ALLOWING ME TO DRIVE OFF THE SERVICE LOT WITHOUT THE FIX IF I WASN'T ABLE TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY. I HAVE BEEN A CHEVY OWNER FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS, BUT THIS MAY BE MY LAST CHEVY PURCHASE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, HE SMELLED GASOLINE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A GASOLINE FUEL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL LETTER FOR MY VEHICLE STATING THAT THE FUEL PUMP CAN FAIL. IT STARTED TO FAIL SO I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THE CAR HAD A SALVAGED TITLE.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT SS 2.0L THAT JUST RECENTLY STARTED TO LEAK GAS REALLY BAD ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL FOR 69,139 COBALTS FOR THIS ISSUE AND THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 09V419000. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN ARIZONA AND WAS PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED IN NEVADA, THE SUMMARY OF THE RECALL CLEARLY STATES THAT "GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT AND SATURN ION VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ARIZONA AND NEVADA". MY CAR IS AN 2006 MODEL AND WAS REGISTERED IN BOTH OF THOSE STATES, SO I FEEL LIKE THERE WAS A MISTAKE THAT WAS MADE ON GM'S PART WHILE DOING RESEARCH ON THIS RECALL AND THERE ARE STILL VEHICLES OUT THERE LIKE MINE THAT HAVE THIS ISSUE. THIS HAS BEEN A BIG INCONVENIENCE FOR ME AS I CANNOT EVEN START MY CAR WITHOUT GASOLINE POURING OUT FROM THE GAS TANK AREA AND FEAR OF MY CAR IGNITING ON FIRE. I JUST CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS TODAY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO TO HELP SO I'M HOPING SOMEONE WILL READ THIS HERE AND GET WORD OUT SO THAT NO ONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT LTZ WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK. *TR
MY CAR IS PUTTING OUT FUEL EXHAUST FUMES IN MY VENTS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ONLY FIXED THE FUEL PUMP, BUT ITS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM LETTING OUT C02 GASES. THEY ARE SAYING THE FUEL PUMP AND EXHAUST SYSTEM IS ALL ONE MODULE. WHEN I DRIVE BEHIND THE WHEEL I FEEL LIKE I'M FALLING ASLEEP. I HAVE TO ROLL MY WINDOWS DOWN IN THE FREEZING COLD. THEY SAID THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN [XXX] RETURNS AT THE WALKER CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP IN FRANKLIN, TN. ALSO COMPLAINED AT THE FREELAND CHEVROLET AND THEY DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO I STARTED TO GET A THUMPING NOISE IN THE FRONT END OF THE 2006 COBALT. I ASKED A MECHANIC WHAT IT COULD BE AND THEY GAVE ME A COUPLE THINGS IT MIGHT BE ALSO GAVE ME IDEA ON COST. BESIDES PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT INCLUDING REPLACING THE MOTOR AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I RECENTLY NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR WHEN I WAS DRIVING MY CAR OR AFTER I HAD PARKED. I NOTICED THE SMELL ON JUNE 29, 2011. I CALLED MY MECHANIC ON JULY 1, 2011 AND HE SCHEDULED ME FOR SERVICE ON JULY 5, 2011 FOLLOWING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND. HE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND NOTICED THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE MRA OR MODULAR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY WHICH HAD CAUSED THE FUEL PUMP TO LEAK. HE STRESSED THE DANGER I HAD BEEN IN WHILE DRIVING MY CAR DUE TO THE HIGHLY FLAMMABLE NATURE OF THE FUEL LEAKING FROM MY CAR. HE NEEDS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP WHICH WILL COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT GM HAD RECALLED MANY 2006 CHEVY COBALTS FOR THIS SPECIFIC REASON. I HAD STEERING MOTOR REPLACED IN 11/2010 AFTER RECEIVING RECALL NOTICE. A FEW DAYS AGO I GOT INTO MY CAR AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. AT FIRST MY HEADLIGHT BULBS JUST KEPT BLOWING AND I HAD TO KEEP REPLACING THEM. EVENTUALLY, ONE SIDE WENT OUT AND WOULD ONLY COME BACK ON AFTER THE BULB SHIELD WAS ADJUSTED. THE BULB SHIELDS EVENTUALLY STOPPED HOLDING THE DEVICE TOGETHER AND MY HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER.I ALSO NOTICED A MELTED LIQUID RUNNING DOWN FROM THE BULBS THEMSELVES INSIDE THE SHIELDS. IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE WIRING HAD MELTED. I TOOK IT TO CHEVROLET DEALER IN MY CITY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE WIRING SYSTEM MELTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED INCLUDING THE WIRE THAT HOOKS THE SYSTEM TO THE BATTERY INSIDE THE ENGINE. TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT EVEN WORKING AT THIS POINT. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH HEAD LAMPS INSTEAD OF JUST THE ONE AFFECTED ONE BECAUSE IF I DIDNT IT WOULD JUST BURN OUT AGAIN. I WAS ESTIMATED $700 FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WAS WAY TOO MUCH FOR MY POCKETS.
