I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I HAD NO CONTROL OF THE WHEEL AND FELT MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER. SO I PULLED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CUT THE CAR OFF AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A MINUTE AND CAME BACK WITHIN 5 MIN. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME!!! *TR

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 38,000.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT 2.4L SS AND THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM WENT OUT ON ME AT 48K MILES. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM CONTINUING WITH 2005 AND 2006 COBALTS. I FEEL COMPLETELY UNSAFE DRIVING MY CAR AND REFUSE TO PAY FOR A REPAIR THAT GM KNOWS IS A PROBLEM. *TR

DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS AN ELECTRONIC MOTOR THAT WILL COST OVER $2,000 TO FIX AND NO ONE ELSE WILL TOUCH IT. POWER STEERING COMES ON AND OFF IN MY CAR. STAYS OFF MOSTLY WHEN DRIVING IT BUT COMES BACK ON FOR A BRIEF MINUTE AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE BEFORE GOING BACK OFF AGAIN. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT TO GM CORPORATION WHO DID NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM DESPITE IT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ACTIVE FROM GM ABOUT THE STEERING ISSUE AS I WAS SHOWN BY ANOTHER MECHANIC. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM WENT OFF WHILE DRIVING AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE PROBLEM REPEATS AT RANDOM INTERVALS. *TR
2006 CHEVY COBALT LS, 39,175 MILES. WENT TO THE STORE, APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE, SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE THE TURN AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. CAME VERY CLOSE TO HITTING SOMEONE ELSE! FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN ON MULTIPLE WEBSITES AND ELSEWHERE, THERE ARE MANY MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM BECAUSE OF FAULTY ELECTRONIC STEERING. PLEASE DO SOMETHING! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AROUND A CORNER AND ALSO AT 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN HE RESTARTED IT, THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED FREQUENTLY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $900 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THEY HAVE SERVICED MANY VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE FAILURE IS BECOMING WORSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,619.
I HAVE A 2006 COBALT THAT I BOUGHT IN APRIL OF 2007. FOR THE FIRST YEAR EVERYTHING WAS FINE UNTIL MY MESSAGE BOARD FLASHED POWER STEERING AND IT WENT OUT. AT FIRST I COULD JUST TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND IT WOULD GO AWAY. IT DID IT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH AFTERWARDS UP UNTIL JULY OF 2009. EVER SINCE THEN, EVEN IF I CUT THE CAR OFF, IT WILL FLASH WHEN I GO OVER 20MPH. CHEVY SAID THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THERE WAS EXTREME DIFFICULTY STEERING AND REQUIRED EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED WHICH RESET THE POWER STEERING SWITCH AND IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. WHEN EVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION THE FAILURE RECURRED. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING SWITCH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 38,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN SHE DROVE APPROXIMATELY 6 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD THERE WAS A CLANKING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING ALSO FAILED AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DRIVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF SO THAT IT WOULD RESET ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE WAS $105; ALTHOUGH, THE WARRANTY WAS VALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE DRIVER STATED THAT EVERY TIME SHE STARTED HER VEHICLE THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE WHEEL WOULD ALSO LOCK. SHE HAD TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN ORDER TO MAKE A TURN. SHE WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND MAKE A TURN BECAUSE HER WHEEL LOCKED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ON MY 2006 COBALT CAME ON RANDOMLY. THERE WAS NOTHING TO LEAD UP TO THE INCIDENT. THEN LATER THE LIGHT HAD DISAPPEARED FOR A WEEK, UNTIL IT CAME UP AGAIN. THIS TIME I RECEIVED THE LIGHT WARNING AS WELL AS LOSING MY POWER STEERING. IT IS NOT CONSTANT, BUT IS BECOMING A MORE COMMON THING. I HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM YET BECAUSE THE DEALER CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH REGULAR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, AND I WILL NOT FORK OUT THE MONEY TO HAVE THE DIG FURTHER INTO THE CAR. I AM LOOKING ON FIXING THE PROBLEM MYSELF, BUT STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE. I DO NOT WANT TO BUY A USED ITEM AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN. I HAVE BEEN READING UP ON THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY COMMON THING WITH THE CHEVY COBALT'S AND PONTIAC G5'S. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO IS FIND AN OEM PART WITH A WARRANTY, PUT THAT IS ALSO HARD BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A NEW AFTERMARKET OEM PART THAT HAS BEEN CHANGED SO THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR AGAIN. *TR
THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING CAME ON IN MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT TODAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT AND I LOST POWER STEERING. I MANAGED TO GET HOME BUT WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY. LATER, WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN, IT WORKED WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I WILL TAKE IT TO A DEALER, BUT I ANTICIPATE THAT THE DEALER WILL NOT FIX IT IF THE PROBLEM IS NOT OCCURRING WHEN THEY LOOK AT THE CAR. *TR
THE 2006 CHEVY COBALT POWER STEERING, THE PROBLEM IS WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER TO CHANGE THE FUSE OR TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THAT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE. GM HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT CHEVY DEALERS ARE CHARGING PEOPLE OVER EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLAR TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT. WHILE DRIVING MY POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT AND THE STEERING WOULD BECOME STIFF. POWER STEERING FAILS ABOUT 2 TIMES PER WEEK. STEERING BECOMES VERY HARD TO STEER AND CAR LOOSES POWER. FAILURE HAS NOT AS YET BEEN CORRECTED. IF YOU TURN CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR AWHILE IT RETURNS TO NORMAL UNTIL NEXT OCCURRENCE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 COBALT ON 95 SOUTH AND I EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHICH MADE THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND BECOME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DO ANYTHING WITH. WITHIN A WEEK OF THE FIRST INCIDENT THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN EVERY COUPLE OF MILES AND THE ONLY WAY TO REGAIN THE POWER STEERING IS TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE CAR. IT GOT SO BAD WITHIN A WEEK IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I COULD NOT EVEN PULL OUT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX WITHOUT LOOSING THE POWER STEERING AND STARTED TO OCCUR EVERY COUPLE OF MILES I DROVE THE CAR. FROM THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING LOSS UNTIL A GOT IT FIXED WAS ABOUT ONE WEEK LONG AND THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 OR MORE TIMES. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN BECAUSE THERE WAS A INTERNAL SHORT IN COLUMN MOTOR MODULE AND HAVE A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHICH COST ME 966.95 TO FIX AND I HAD TO PAY THE MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE CAR WAS WAY TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE WITH OUT FIXING THIS PROBLEM. I TRAVEL ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS WITH MY JOB AND THIS DANGEROUS SAFETY DEFECT LEFT ME IN ALMOST SERIOUS ACCIDENTS AND I WAS PULLED OVER ON THE INTERSTATE 95 , PA TURNPIKE, 76, AND 495 IN DELAWARE STATE DEALING WITH THIS HAZARD. THIS PROBLEM IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DANGER NOT ONLY TO ME BUT EVERY OTHER PERSON ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH IS NOT FAIR TO THEM. *TR
MY DAUGHTER OWNS A 2007 CHEVY COBALT. WE STARTING HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING AROUND THE END OF LAST YEAR WHEN SHE REACHED THE 40,000 MILES ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WHEEL STARTED GETTING HARD WHILE WE WERE DRIVING IT AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER SHIP WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND NO RECALLS AT THE TIME. EVERY TIME WE WOULD DRIVE IT LONG DISTANCE IT WOULD GET HARD ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WE COULD NOT STEER IT AT ALL VERY HARD TO MAKE A TURN. WE THEN TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO LOOK AT IT WHEN IT CONTINUED TO DO SO AND WAS LOOSING THE POWER STEERING FLUID DAILY. THE RACK AND PINION MOTOR WAS CHANGED OUT AND ALSO THE RACK AND PINION. WE DO NOT HAVE THE OLD PART ANYMORE. I REALLY THINK THERE SHOULD OF BEEN SOME WARNING OR RECALL TO LET US KNOW BEFORE SOMEONE'S LIFE IS TAKEN DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. MY GRANDCHILDREN RIDE IN THAT CAR DAILY. *TR

THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL RANDOM INSTANCES AT RANDOM SPEEDS THAT MY POWER STEERING CEASES TO WORK. THE DIC WILL DISPLAY "POWER STEERING" AND THEN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST GOES AWAY. IT THEN BECOMES DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THIS IS UNSAFE BECAUSE OF COURSE I NEED TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL MY CAR! THERE IS A TSB ON THIS ISSUE, NUMBER 070232007, BUT NO RECALL. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS REALLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVEN'T TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER YET BECAUSE I AM STRONG ENOUGH TO CONTROL THE CAR WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING BUT IT STILL SHOULD BE FIXED BY GM. *TR
I HAVE AN 06 CHEVY COBALT THAT I PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 2006. RECENTLY THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT WHILE I'M DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT SS COUPE'S ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAS BEEN CUTTING IN AND OUT FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS NOW, AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE STEERING IS SO IMPORTANT BUT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS SLIGHTLY OUT OF THE VEHICLE WARRANTY, CHEVROLET WANTS TO CHARGE ME AN ARM AND A LEG JUST TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT GOING 70 MPH IN A 2006 CHEVY COBALT, PULLED OFF ONTO RAMP TURNED CAR OFF WORKED FINE FOR 1/2 MILE AND WENT OUT AGAIN. MADE IT TO A SHOP AND HAD THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AND I STILL HAVE THE OLD PART. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 2006 CHEVY COBALT DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPG AND THE MESSAGE DISPLAYED POWER STEERING AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING SO I PULLED OFF ONTO A RAMP AND TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 3 MILES IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS CAN NOT BE SAFE AT ALL AND CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THE STEERING COLUMN. I GOT THE CAR IN THE SHOP TODAY (JUNE 30TH) AND THE QUOTE I GOT WAS $750.00 TO FIX. AND I WOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THE OLD PART. *TR

NO BRAKE LIGHTS. I AM SEARCHING AS TO WHY THE LIGHT BULBS AND FUSE KEEPS BLOWING OUT, THERE APPEARS TO BE A LIVE WIRE SHORTING OUT BETWEEN THE FUSE AND THE BRAKE SWITCH. WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH DISCONNECTED, THE FUSE STILL BLOWS. *TR UPDATED 07/17/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED BY REPLACING IT WITH A BRAKE SWITCH. UPDATED 07/21/09. *JB

THE POWER STEERING FAILED AT THE SAME TIME. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING BEGAN WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE PREVIOUS DAY AS WELL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR BACK HOME WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED(ALMOST CRASHED). I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BUT THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO STEER. I GOT THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND THE STEERING COLUMN GOT REPLACED. *TR

THE STEERING BECAME VERY STIFF AND THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. SHE MANAGED TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. I PURCHASED A 2006 CHEVY COBALT IN JUNE OF 2007 IT WAS A NEW CAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALLS FOR ANY PARTS CONCERNING THE POWER STEERING. ON JUNE 18, 2009 ON MY DASH BOARD HAD A DIC MESSAGE COME UP STAYING POWER STEERING AND I COMPLETELY LOST CONTROL OF THE POWER STEERING IN THE CAR. THANK GOODNESS I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT, BUT IT MADE THE CAR VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN OR CONTROL. IT HAPPENED TWICE. AFTER I SHUT THE OFF IT RESUMED NORMAL DRIVING. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE GM CORPORATION SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FIXING THESE ERRORS. ON JUNE 19, 2009, I TOOK MY CAR TO LICENSED MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THERE IS A SHORT IN THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT HE HAS HAD SEVERAL CHEVYS IN THE SHOP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PART IS AVAILABLE BUT IT WILL COST AROUND A $1000 DOLLARS TO FIX WITH PARTS AND LABOR, WHICH IT IS OUR OF MY BUDGET WITH THE STATE OF OUR ECONOMY. THE CAR SHIFTER BUTTON WON'T RELEASE THE KEY. IN OTHER WORDS THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. THIS WAS HAPPENING AS I WAS INCREASING MY SPEED CLOSE TO THE SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MILES AN HOUR. I ARRIVED TO MY DESTINATION WITH DIFFICULTY SINCE I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN A CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING AND DRIVING IT TOOK A LOT OF EFFORT TO AVOID CRASHING IN THE PARKING LOT TRAFFIC. AFTER I SHOPPED AT WAL-MART AND RETURNED TO MY CAR, I STARTED ENGINE AND RELIEVED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS DISAPPEARED. MUCH TO MY DISMAY, I WENT BACK TO ROUTE 40 UP TO 55 MILES AN HOUR AGAIN WITH THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM APPEARING AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE TODAY AND I'M CONCERNED THAT IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS. THE CAR HAS ONLY 50220 MILES, SO OF COURSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I GOT IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE FROM THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THE STEERING COLUMN AND HE SAID TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SENT IT IN TO GM, I WAITED A WEEK FOR AN ANSWER. THEY CALLED BACK AND SAID GM WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST.
