MY POWER STEERING TENDS TO GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. THE SHIFTER CLICKS. MY SPEEDOMETER AND RMPS GO NUTS. MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT FLASH. THE CAR STALLS WHEN I STOP IN TRAFFIC OR AT LIGHTS. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER CHIP THREE TIMES AND REPLACED THE PART ONCE. I NOW AM HAVING THE PROBLEM AGAIN AND THEY SAID ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT ALSO OWNS A GRACO CHILD SEAT, MODEL 8690CNN (NA). THE SEAT WAS MANUFACTURED ON JULY 16, 2006. WHILE THE CONTACT'S CHILD WAS SEATED IN THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT, THE BUCKLE COULD BE EASILY RELEASED WITH LITTLE FORCE. HE STATED THAT THE BUCKLE DID NOT HAVE A CHILD SAFETY RESISTANCE DEVICE. A BUCKLE MECHANISM WAS ORDERED FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHOUT A RESOLUTION. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE PURCHASE DATE OF THE CHILD SEAT WAS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE KEYS WERE IN THE IGNITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, SHE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR WAS ALSO STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION AND COULD NOT BE REMOVED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME, AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND THE WARRANTY WAS NOT VALID. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,052 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 14V047000 (AIR BAGS , ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED BECAUSE THE REMEDY PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 5/19/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIT UP, THE RADIO STAYED ON, AND THE STEERING WENT OUT. UPDATED 08/19/14
AT 50,000 MILES OR SO THE POWER STEERING FAILED, IT NO LONGER WORKS. I HEARD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVROLET COBALT. GM WILL NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW BECAUSE MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ON A TRIP TO A BOWLING TOURNAMENT IN CINCINATTI. I WAS ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF INDIANAPOLIS ON 465 I BELIEVE WHEN I HIT A BUMP AND THE CAR SHUT OFF. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE AT THE TIME, BUT JUST PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, RESTARTED THE CAR, AND CONTINUED DRIVING. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS AN SOME TYPE OF SAFETY DEVICE TO SHUT OF THE CAR IF I HIT THE OIL PAN OR SOMETHING ELSE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR. I PULLED OVER LATER, CHECKED THE OIL, LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND DID NOT THINK ANYMORE ABOUT IT. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHEN HITTING BUMPS BUT ESPECIALLY IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION ZONES DURING REPAVEMENT NEAR BRIDGES WHEN THERE IS A CHANGE IN ROAD HEIGHT AND ONCE OR TWICE IN POT HOLES. I HAVE JUST LEARNED TO SLOW DOWN TO 25-30 IN THESE AREAS TO AVOID THIS. IT HAS PROBABLY HAPPENED 4-5 TIMES TOTAL SINCE I PURCHASED THE COBALT IN SEPTEMBER 2007, BUT PROBABLY HAS NOT HAPPENED IN SEVERAL YEAR. I HAVE NEVER REALLY NOTICED THAT THE IGNITION KEY SHUT OFF, BUT I HAVE NOT REALLY LOOKED FOR THAT EITHER. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT THAT HAS A POWER STEERING ISSUE. THE SCREEN WILL DISPLAY "POWER STEERING" WHICH MEANS THAT I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING. I HAVE HAD STEERING COLUMN RATTLING RANDOMLY. MY KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, MY CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK A LONG WITH MY KEYLESS ENTRY I DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY TO FIX IT . *TR
I'VE OWNED A 2006 CHEVY COBALT FOR ABOUT 3YRS NOW AND THE POWER STEERING HAS BEEN GOING OUT WHENEVER IT PLEASES FOR THE LAST 2YRS! THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT TEMPORARILY IS TO TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK PN AND HOPE THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T GO OUT AGAIN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE "POWER STEERING" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION THE VEHICLE LOSS COMPLETE POWER STEERING WHICH RESULTED IN GREATER EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,819. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,594.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED A NEW KEY WAS NEEDED TO START VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PURCHASED A NEW KEY AND THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. 2006 COBALT I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM A COUPLE OF TIMES BUT IT DID NOT CONCERN ME UNTIL KNOW THAT I LOOK AT THE RECALLS. WHEN DRIVING MY CAR AT FREEWAY SPEEDS I GET A GASOLINE LIKE SMELL. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL DID NOT PERTAIN TO ME, BUT I HAVE LOOKED AT THE VIN NUMBERS AND THEY MATCH BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER. *TR
THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE CAR GOES OFF BY IT SELF I WAS ALMOST REARENED BY ANOTHER CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE ENTERING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE DISENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE ENABLED THE DOOR TO OPEN DUE TO BROKEN SUPPORT BOLTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE DOOR HANDLE UNDER WARRANTY. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT WHICH WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW. IT NOW HAS 67,000 MILES ON IT. AT APPROX. 45,000 THE POWER STEERING LIGHT AND THEFT DETERRENT LIGHT BEGAN BLINKING. THE CAR DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A SECURITY SYSTEM. WE TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER WHO "FIXED" THE PROBLEM BY TEARING INTO THE STEERING COLUMN AND CLEANING ALL OF THE PLUGS. IT WORKS FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS, THEN IT DID IT AGAIN. THEY THEN DID THE SAME THING AND CLEANED THE PLUGS. THE THIRD TIME WE TOOK IT BACK THEY REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN AND IT WAS GOOD FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IT BEGAN ACTING UP AGAIN AND WE TOOK IT BACK AND THEY CLEANED THE PLUGS AGAIN. AFTER YEARS OF FRUSTRATION AND COMPLAINING, WE FINALLY FIGURED OUT WHAT CONTROLS IT. WHEN YOU OPERATE THE TILT WHEEL IT WILL EITHER FIX OR HINDER THE PROBLEM WORSE OR BETTER THAN WHAT IT IS AT THE TIME. I SAW THAT NHTSA IS LOOKING INTO THIS AND I WANTED TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS WELL AS EVERYONE ELSE TO LET THEM KNOW I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE ELECTRONIC ASSIST STEERING. THERE WAS A POINT WHERE YOU COULD BE GOING DOWN HIGHWAY AND GOING AROUND A TURN AND THE POWER STEERING WOULDN'T' BE WORKING, AND IT WOULD KICK IN AND OUT JERKING THE WHEEL. MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE DRIVE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE IN ITS OWN LANE. IN ADDITION TO BEING HARD TO PARK, THIS IS A HORRID SYSTEM. I WILL NEVER BUY A COBALT AGAIN DUE TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE, IT ALMOST FORCED ME TO WRECK GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CONTROL ARM BUSHING WAS DEFECTIVE. THE BUSHING WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT A POPPING NOISE WAS PRESENT FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE STABILIZING BUSHING THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE ENGINE SUB FRAME WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE DEFECT WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT CLOSE AND REMAIN CLOSED (LATCH). THEN WOULD NOT OPEN FOR DOOR HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE AS WELL AS FROM INSIDE. DOOR FAILURE TO WORK ON 3/31/08 - 3X. RETURN CAR TO DEALER (WEBB CHEVY IN OAK LAWN, IL) AND CALLED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE 866-790-5600. VEHICLE OUT OF WARRANTY BY 1,804 MILES. SHERI LANE (X32034) FROM CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WEBB CHEVY FOUND THIS TO BE A SAFELY PROBLEM BUT WOULDN'T PAID FOR SERVICE OR ASSIST WITH THE COST. THE CLAIM NUMBER WITH CHEVY SERVICE SERVICE IS #71-616076350. I WILL BE PICKING UP THE VEHICLE AND ASKED TO FOR THE PART THAT WAS REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR ME TO PICK-UP. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT WITH 37,000 WITHOUT WARNING DID NOT START UP PROPERLY THE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. CAR ENGINE CHUGGED ALONG AND WOULD ACCELERATE. THE CAR DIDN'T WANT TO 'GO'. RELATED OR NOT THE CAR GAS MILEAGE DECREASED FROM AN AVERAGE OF 30 MPH TO CLOSER TO 23 TO 24 ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THERE ARE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN LOGGED. THE DEALERSHIP FURTHER INDICATED THAT GM HAS ISSUED AN TECHNICAL SERVICE ADVISORY BASED ON SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. *TR
THE KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION AT ANY TIME NO MATTER WHAT GEAR THE SHIFT LEVER IS IN. *TR
WELL MY POWER STEERING WORKED FOR A WHILE WHEN I BOUGHT IT,BUT ONE DAY I WAS GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING ICON CAME ON AND IT GOT VERY HARD TO STEER SO I PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED FINE. A FEW DAYS PASS AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN SO I TURN IT OFF AND BOUT 30 MINUTES LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN. NOW MY POWER STEERING ONLY WORKS BOUT 4 SECONDS LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO RESTART MY CAR TO MAKE A U-TURN. *TR
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT HAS HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THE DOORS NOT LATCHING AND/OR NOT BEING ABLE TO BE OPENED. THE DRIVER DOOR, SEEMS TO DO OK, AS LONG AS I KEEP IT LUBED. CURRENTLY, THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT LATCH. WHEN I LOOK AT THE LATCH, IT SEEMS TO BE MOVING FREELY, YET WILL NOT LATCH. IT HAS BEEN TIED CLOSED WITH A ROPE, SINCE OCTOBER 2013, AS IT WILL COST HUNDREDS, JUST TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. IT HAS MANUAL LOCKS, SO IS NOT AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I NEED TO FIND A WAY TO FIX IT MYSELF, BUT CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *TR
MY A/C LEAKS HORRIBLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD, I HAD IT BLOWN OUT 4 TIMES AND IT IS GOOD FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THESE MODELS ARE MISSING A SEAL BETWEEN THE AC HOUSING . IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. MY LOCKS ARE ALSO FREAKING OUT. THEY LOCK/UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES, MY CAR IS ONLY 2 YRS OLD!!!!!!!!!!! *TR
WITH THE RECENT TALK OF THE GM RECALL LAWSUIT, I WANTED TO POST A COMPLAINT. IN FEB OF 2008 I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 55MPH, I CANNOT RECALL HOW FAST I WAS GOING, BUT IN THAT GENERAL VICINITY IF NOT A LITTLE MORE. I LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE AND COLLIDED HEAD ON WITH THE CENTER CEMENT BARRIER. I HIT, SPUN AROUND, AND MOST LIKELY HIT THE WALL AGAIN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. NO AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED DURING THE ACCIDENT AND BOTH MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER HAD TO BE TREATED FOR INJURIES SUSTAINED IN THE ACCIDENT. MY INJURIES WERE VERY CONSISTENT WITH THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING AS I HIT MY FACE AND NOSE ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AND MY KNEES UNDERNEATH THE WHEEL. I HAD BLACK EYES FOR WEEKS AND THEY THOUGHT I MAY HAVE POSSIBLY HAIRLINE FRACTURED MY NOSE. I HAD ON MY SAFETY BELT. MY PASSENGER DID NOT HAVE HER SAFETY BELT ON, AND SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER HEAD AND LIMBS. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO FATALITIES, BUT IT WAS VERY SCARY KNOWING I HIT SOMETHING AT THAT SPEED HEAD ON, AND ONCE AGAIN ON THE SIDE WITH NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, TWO CHIMES SOUNDED FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER HAD TO EXERT MORE EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE POWER STEERING FAILURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IMMEDIATELY, THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITH CAUTION TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING. THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE AND ORDERED FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 10,200. UPDATED 3/9/09 *CN
I HAVE OWNED MY CAR SINCE SEPT 09 AND SINCE I HAVE HAD 4 DIFFERENT INCIDENTS WHERE THE POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT AND LOCKED UP MY WHEEL. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CLOSE CALLS AND IM AFRAID THAT I WILL GET INJURED IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. EACH TIME HAS OCCURRED AT DIFFERENT TIMES IN DIFFERENT WEATHER AND SO ON. ON FEB 4 2010 I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM WORK AND THE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND I WENT COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD INTO A FIELD. I TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT STARTS DRIVING FINE AGAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE USUALLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO JERK AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 39,000.
MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I SAW ON THE CCN REPORT ABOUT THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURRED IN 2008 AS I WAS COMING OFF A HIGHWAY RAMP. NO ACCIDENT, WHEN I REACHED MY HOUSE, I SHUT OFF THE POWER AND RESTARTED CAR 15 MINUTES LATER AND CAR WORKED FINE. HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
WHENEVER THE REAR WINDOWS ARE ROLLED DOWN THE WIND RUSHES IN CAUSING AN EXTREMELY LOUD AND IRRITATING NOISE. IT HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME I HAVE ROLLED DOWN THE REAR WINDOWS SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. IT ONLY OCCURS WHEN ONE REAR WINDOW IS DOWN, IF BOTH REAR WINDOWS ARE DOWN I DOES NOT OCCUR. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START AFTER IT IS TURNED OFF AFTER A PERIOD OF DRIVING. THIS OCCURS AT LEAST 5-10 TIMES A WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, BRESEE CHEVY IN LIVERPOOL, NY FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND WE WERE TOLD NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE HAD A BAD BATTERY CELL AND WERE CHARGED FOR A BATTERY REPLACEMENT AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS A "ENGINE LOW POWER" WARNING AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THE VEHICLE RUNS ERRATICALLY, AND THERE IS CONCERN OF STALLING WHILE DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2005, AND IS ONLY USED FOR COMMUTING TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY. ALSO, THE TIRES ON THIS VEHICLE WERE COMPLETELY BALD AT 38,000 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THE BEARINGS ON THE FRONT END ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT 25 MPH ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WARNING THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS INOPERATIVE. THIS MADE THE CAR VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE THE TURN AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION. SHE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO THAT SHE DID NOT GET IN TO AN ACCIDENT. AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 2-3 MILES THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AND THE STEERING WITHOUT THE ELECTRONIC ASSISTANCE WAS NOT AN OPTION AND SHE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE CONTACTED GM WHO HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE CHEVROLET SERVICE STATION. THE STEERING COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED. THIS INCIDENT TOOK PLACE IN DECEMBER 2007. ON APRIL 30,2008 THE SAME SCENARIO HAPPENED EXCEPT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, T/C LIGHT AND POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS BUCKING. SHE CONTACTED GM AGAIN WHO HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET SERVICE STATION. THE SERVICE STATION REFERENCED SERVICE BULLETIN 070232007. THE CODES WHERE RESET AND THE CAR WAS TEST DROVE. AT THIS TIME NO CODES WHERE PRESENT. THE SERVICE CENTER CALLED TO INFORM US OF THIS CONDITION. THEY HOWEVER DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE SENDING THE VEHICLE BACK TO US AT THIS TIME. THE SERVICE CENTER KEPT THE CAR AN ADDITIONAL 24 HOURS TO TEST DRIVE AND CODE TEST. AFTER 24 HOURS THE SERVICE CENTER CONTACTED US TO PICK THE VEHICLE UP. AS A CAR OWNER I DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT IN MY WIFE DRIVING THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE. THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WHEN INOPERATIVE MAKES THE CAR UNCONTROLLABLE AND VERY UNSAFE. I WAS THE OWNER OF A 2006 CHEVY COBALT. ON DECEMBER 3, 2007 I LOST CONTROL OF AND HIT HEAD ON INTO A GUARD RAIL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD DOING 50-55 MILES AND HOUR. THE CAR SPUN AND HIT THE BACK END ON THE SAME GUARD RAIL AND SHOT ME ACROSS THE STREET INTO THE GUARD RAIL ON THE LEFT SIDE HITTING THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. THE CAR STOPPED AND THE AIR BAG NEVER DEPLOY. I CALLED AND ALERTED GM AND THEY ADV WOULD SEND SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT THE CAR (WHICH COULD TAKE UP TO 14 BUS DAYS) BUT WOULD NOT PAY FOR STORAGE.
