DRIVING SOUTH ON THE RIGHT LANE OF I-270, ABOUT 3/4 MILE SOUTH OF INTERSECTION WITH MD 85 WITH SPEED OF 6-65MPH. PAVEMENT WAS WET. WHEN NOTICED THAT CARS AHEAD OH ME IN THE DISTANCE OF 100 YARDS WERE SLOWING DOWN, I STEPPED MODERATELY ON THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES AND STEERING INSTANTLY LOCKED UP AND CAR WAS VIOLENTLY POOLING TO THE LEFT AND HIT THE CONCRETE GUARDRAIL IN THE MEDIAN, AFTER PASSING THROUGH THE LEFT LANE. WITH A HEAVY MORNING TRAFFIC I WAS LUCKY NOT TO COLIDE WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE AND TO COME OUT OF THIS ACCIDENT WITH THE FEW MINOR MUSCLE ACHES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES. THE FIRST FAILURE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE THREE YEAR/30,000 MILE FACTORY WARRANTY. THE SECOND FAILURE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, ALONG WITH THE CAM SENSORS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE DUE TO THE CONVERTER BECOMING CLOGGED. THE THIRD TIME THE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AS WELL. CURRENTLY, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS FAILING FOR THE FOURTH TIME. THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE UPON ACCELERATION AND LOSE POWER FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE STALLING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED TO CORRECT THE FOURTH FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 83,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND STRUCK A GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. GM COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE AIR BAGS FAILED. A COLLISION MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, AND NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR BACK IN JUNE. AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR. NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTERS IN THE CAR. FROM THE ECM, TO THE PCM, AND THE BCM. I ALSO HAVE PROOF THE ODOMETER HAS ALSO BEEN ROLLED BACK. IF NEEDED FOR THIS INVESTIGATION CAN SEND A COPY. THE CARS HAS BEEN SERVICED NOW 5 TIMES. THIS TIME IT IS SENDING ERROR CODES TO THE COMPUTER OF RANDOM MISFIRES ON THE FIRST AND FOURTH CYLINDER. *TR
STARTING IN OCTOBER 2007, I HAVE HAD ONGOING POWER STEERING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 CHEVY COBALT. WITHOUT WARNING, THE POWER STEERING WILL SUDDENLY QUIT WHILE THE TRANSMISSION WILL START JUMPING. THE CAR BECOMES UNABLE TO DRIVE. THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR AND THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL A SHORT TIME LATER. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES NOW CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAPPENS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE COBALT. THERE IS CURRENTLY AN ONLINE PETITION TO HAVE THE CHEVY COBALT RECALLED. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!!! I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ABNORMAL CHIMING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AREA WHEN SUDDENLY, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED THE BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE DEFECT WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING LOCKS FREQUENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE FAILURE NORMALLY OCCURS WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE OUT OF HER DRIVEWAY. SHE PULLED OVER AND HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE STEERING TO UNLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $800. THE REPAIR WOULD CONSIST OF CHANGING THE POWER STEERING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ON JUNE 14, 2008, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE. SHE HAD TO REMOVE RANDOM FUSES IN ORDER TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH A $200 CERTIFICATE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL. SHE WILL NOT HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND WANTS THE MANUFACTURER TO TRADE THE VEHICLE. THE VIN AND SPEED WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
1) WHEN PARKING MY COBALT, 3 OF EVERY 5 TIMES MY KEY BECOMES STUCK IN THE IGNITION. I HAVE TO DO THINGS LIKE--APPLY THE BRAKE OFF-AND-ON REPEATEDLY, SHIFT IN-AND-OUT OF PARK REPEATEDLY, AND SOMETIMES EVEN ROCK THE CAR BACK-AND-FORTH WITH MY BODY UNTIL IT "CLICKS" INTO PLACE AND I CAN TAKE MY KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I WORK LATE SHIFT AT THE HOSPITAL. IT IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO BE STUCK IN THE DARK--IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKING LOT--NOT ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. 2)PERIODICALLY, WHEN I START UP MY COBALT, THE CLOCK ON MY DASHBOARD WILL START BACK AT "12:00". IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE TO KEEP RESETTING MY CLOCK. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? 3) AS I DRIVE MY COBALT, THE BACK WINDOWS SLOWLY ROLL THEMSELVES DOWN. I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO REACH BACK AND ROLL THEM UP. THEY DO NOT ROLL THEMSELVES DOWN ALL THE WAY, BUT THEY CRACK THEMSELVES ENOUGH TO HEAR THE AIR COMING IN. 4) SINCE I BOUGHT MY COBALT I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY HEADLIGHTS POINTING DOWNWARD TOO MUCH. I HAVE BROUGHT THEM IN TO BE ADJUSTED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. THEY ARE STILL NOT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY, AND--AT TIMES-- I HAVE TO SQUAT DOWN IN MY SEAT AT NIGHT IN ORDER TO SEE "UNDER" MY HEADLIGHTS, SO I DO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS A WRECK ASSOCIATED WITH THIS HEADLIGHT PROBLEM LATE IN '06 INVOLVING A DEER ON THE HIGHWAY BECUASE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IN TIME. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A DITCH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SPED OUT OF CONTROL. THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND STRUCK A TREE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY WERE NEVER NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THROUGH HER INSURANCE AGENCY AT THE COST OF $6,971.29. THE CONTACT PAID A $500 DEDUCTIBLE. HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAULTY FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. THE POWERTRAIN, RECALL NUMBER, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,800. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER SWERVED TO MISS A DEER, HIT A UTILITY POLE HEAD ON, DEAD CENTER OF THE BUMPER, SNAPPING IT OFF AT THE BASE. HER CAR WAS TOTALED. IT WAS 2006 CHEVY COBALT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE POLE BEING OLD, THERE IS NO DOUBT SHE AND HER PASSENGER WOULD HAVE SUSTAINED HUGE INJURY OR WORSE. THERE IS NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR

THE ROOF DETACHED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE BACK AND SHOULDERS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS NOT DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THE AIR BAGS TO FAIL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,000.
ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON FIRST COUPLE TIMES DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FINALLY LIGHT CAME ON AS I WAS LEAVING I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I WAS COMING RIGHT THEN BEFORE I SHUT MY CAR OFF AGAIN FOR THEM TO PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER. PUT CAR ON COMP, AND GOT TO CODES BOTH WERE SOMETHING ABOUT A PUMP RELAY MOTOR. WAS FIXED AND THEN ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER SCHEDULED 3 RD APPT FOR SHAKING PROBLEM AND OH THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. 1 ST APPT FOR SHAKING SAID ROTORS NEEDED TURNED WITH 17000 MILES TOLD THEM I WAS NOT PAYING FOR IT CALLED GM 800 NUMBER TOLD ME I LIVED IN A HILLY AREA ROUND FLAT AREA. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY TURNED THEM UNDER WARRANTY. 4000 MILES LATER TOOK IT BACK FOR STEERING WHEEL SHAKING ON TUESDAY. WEDNESDAY THEY CALLED TO TELL ME I NEEDED 4 NEW TIRES, NEW PADS, OH AND NEW ROTORS, NOT UNDER MY WARRANTY WRONG AGAIN I WILL NOT PAY FOR ALL OF THESE NEW AT 21000 MILES CRAZY. TODAY FRIDAY I CALLED TO CHECK ON MY CAR AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE 30 YEAR TECHNICIAN AND SERVICE MANAGER HAVE BEEN ON THE PHONE WITH TECH SUPPORT FOR TWO DAYS AND THEY TOLD THEM THEY WERE ON THEIR OWN. IF THESE MECHANICS HAVE TO USE A PHONE TO GET INFORMATION ABOUT A CAR THEY ARE EITHER NOT A VERY GOOD MECHANIC OR MAYBE WE ARE RELYING TO MUCH ON COMPUTERS TO RUN OUR CARS. *JB

SMELLED GAS AND SAW GAS LEAKING FROM UNDER CAR. SMALL FIRE STARTED AND PUT IT OUT. TOOK CAR IN. STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP FIXED BUT NEVER RIGHT. NOW THE IGNITION SWITCH IS BEING FIXED BUT ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH ARE LIGHTED UP DUE TO THIS. NO TURN SIGNALS. CAR IS NOT RIGHT. CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RIGHT! *TR
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT PURCHASED USED WITH 28000 MILES ON IT. ALL MY PROBLEMS STARTED ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHEN DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND OVER SO I TOOK IT IN TO A CHEVY DEALER AND THEY ROTATED AND BALANCED THE TIRES AND THAT SEEMED TO FIX THAT PROBLEM. ABOUT 2 WEEKS I WAS DRIVING HOME AND I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERY THING WAS FINE ON THE DASH BOARD, NO WARNING LIGHTS OR MESSAGES IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER. I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN AND WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS THERE WAS THIS LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS NOT SHIFTING GEARS PROPERLY. SO I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT AND IT DROVE FINE. NOW AT THIS POINT IM JUST THINKING THAT THERE IS A MALFUNCTION IN THE COMPUTER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SCANNED THE COMPUTER AND FOUND NO ERRORS AND EVERYTHING WAS CHECKING OUT FINE. ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF STEERING AND THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER WAS DISPLAYED ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. UNABLE TO STEER I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD GONE AWAY AND I GAINED STEERING CONTROL AGAIN. I ONCE AGAIN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. NOW SOME DAYS WHEN I START MY CAR THE POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND SOME DAYS THE CAR DRIVES FINE AND ITS REALLY STARTING TO FRUSTRATE ME. IN ADDITION TO THE STEERING PROBLEM I AM UNABLE TO REMOVE MY KEY FORM THE IGNITION. TO THIS DAY NONE OF MY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN RESOLVED. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND LOST POWER. THE CONTACT HEARD A CLICKING SOUND WHEN SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY REWIRED A LOOSE WIRE AND THE FAILURE WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR FLOW CLOGGED. THE DEALER MADE THE REPAIR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THE NEXT DAY. AS OF DECEMBER 3, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR GETS STUCK CLOSED - SOMETIMES IF I 'SNAP' THE OUTSIDE HANDLE IT WILL EVENTUALLY OPEN, BUT IT FEELS LIKE I'M GOING TO BREAK IT DOING THIS. BY 'SNAP' I MEAN TO PULL ON THE HANDLE AND LET IT SNAP BACK INTO POSITION. I'VE BEEN STUCK INSIDE THE CAR AND HAD TO HAVE SOMEONE 'SNAP' THE OUTSIDE HANDLE TO GET THE DOOR OPENED FOR ME. I'VE HAD INCIDENTS WHERE I'VE HAD TO CRAWL ACROSS TO THE PASSENGER SIDE TO GET OUT. THIS IS NOT EASY BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO LIFT THE CONSOLE UP IN ORDER TO GET BY... AND THE CONSOLE DOESN'T LATCH AND EVERYTHING FALLS OUT... NOT TO MENTION I'M A LITTLE CHUBBY AND IT'S REALLY HARD FOR ME TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE. THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS TO POTENTIALLY BE LOCKED IN YOUR CAR - WHAT IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT?! WHAT IF I NEEDED TO GET OUT OF MY CAR IN A HURRY FOR WHAT EVER REASON!? I HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN 5 TIMES AND AND LOCKED OUT AT LEAST ONCE DAILY FOR THE LAST MONTH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON AND OFF PRETTY MUCH SINCE I GOT THE CAR IN 2007, AND EVERY TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT, THE CAR DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY'VE NEVER HEAR SUCH A THING (I'VE BROUGHT IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES FOR THIS REASON), AND THAT THEY CAN'T SEEM TO GET IT TO DO IT WHEN THEY HAVE IT... AGAIN... THIS IS A DANGEROUS THING... NOT JUST AN INCONVENIENCE - WHICH IT CERTAINLY IS WHEN THE DOOR WON'T CLOSE FROM THIS, BUT AT LEAST I'M NOT IN IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THE GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR FAILED SEVERAL TIMES, AND HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE FIRST REPAIR WAS COVERED BY FACTORY WARRANTY. THE SECOND REPAIR WAS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE FAILURE OCCURRED BECAUSE SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE TOO OFTEN AND WORE OUT THE SELECTOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000. UPDATED 07/21/10. *LJ
I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY COBALT AND MY POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT RANDOMLY AS I AM DRIVING. I WAS AT A RED LIGHT, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I STARTED TO GO AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME IN A PT CRUISER STOPPED SHORT AND I HIT HIM IN THE REAR CAUSING SO MUCH DAMAGE TO MY FRONT END. HOW ON EARTH CAN THEY GIVE THIS CAR EVEN 1 STAR FOR FRONT END COLLISIONS, IF I WAS GOING ANY FASTER I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! THE ENTIRE BUMPER, HOOD, THE STRUCTURE THAT HOLDS THE BUMPER IS RUINED AND MY COMPRESSOR TO THE AIR CONDITIONING AS WELL, THIS WAS ALL AT THE SPEED OF APPROX 2 TO 4 MILES PER HOUR! THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED EITHER, SHOWING THAT THIS WAS NOT A HEAVY IMPACT, HOWEVER THIS CAR JUST CRUMPLED AND I AM WORRIED FOR MY SAFTEY DRIVING IN MY CAR. I GO TO COLLEGE AND THEN TO WORK AND I AM SCARED THAT IF SOMEONE WERE TO HIT ME I DON'T EVEN HAVE A CHANCE IN THIS CAR THAT CLAIMS TO HAVE GOOD IMPACT RESULTS. I PURCHASED A 2006 CHEVY COBALT SS W/ 2.4 LITER NON-SUPERCHARGED ENGINE. AT ABOUT 5,000 MILES THE CAR BEGAN SHAKING WHILE BRAKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE DELAMINATED AND THEY MACHINED THEM DOWN SMOOTH AGAIN. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 5-600 MILES, THEN THE SHAKING STARTED AGAIN. MY CAR HAD TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY MACHINED THEM DOWN AGAIN WITHOUT REPLACING THE ROTORS-THEY SAID THEY JUST PASS INSPECTION. ALSO, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE HEAD GASKET, THE VALVE COVERS AND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS THE SIXTH DAY THEY HAD MY CAR AND EVERYDAY IT IS SOMETHING ELSE THEY FIND WRONG WITH IT. MY CAR ONLY HAS 15,000 MILES ON IT AND IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I PARKED MY 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT IN MY DRIVEWAY AND OVERNIGHT AN ANIMAL CLIMBED UP UNDER A PLASTIC SCHROUD OVER THE 4 CYL ENGINE AND LITERALLY CHEWED THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS OFF THE CONNECTOR THAT FEEDS THE ELECTRICAL WIRING TO THE ENGINE COMPONENTS , APPROXIMATELY 20 - 30 WIRES. THE WIRES WERE INCHES TOO SHORT TO RECONNECT TO THE ENGINE CONNECTOR, AND THE WHOLE WIRING HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $826.00 AT A CHEVROLET DEALER. THIS AREA IS ACCESSIBLE TO ANIMALS, SUCH AS SQUIRRELS/ CHIPMUNKS, ETC. THEY APPARENTLY USED THE WIRING MATERIALS FOR NESTING PURPOSES. SHOULD THIS AREA BE ENCLOSED OR FURTHER PROTECTION BE PROVIDED ON THE WIRING COMPONENTS TO PREVENT FIRES OR MALFUNCTIONING COMPONENTS/SENSORS TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS OF SYSTEM FAULTS. EVERY WIRE ON THE CONNECTOR WAS SEPARATED AND SHORTENED OVERNIGHT. IT TOOK THE GM SERVICE GARAGE SEVERAL HOURS TO FIND THIS FAULT, AND WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY GM LIABILITY FOR LEAVING ACCESS TO THIS AREA. *AK

EVENTS THAT LEAD TO FAILURE: 2006 CHEVROLET COBALT RANDOMLY SHUT OFF, INSTRUMENT GAUGE NEEDLES RANDOMLY FLICKER/TWITCH, BAD SMELL THAT IN MY OPINION RESEMBLED A BURNT FOOD/SULFUR COMBINATION. THE EVENING PRIOR I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER ABOUT THE SMELL AND I TOLD THEM I HAVE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON. THE NEXT DAY DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SMELL/ODDER INTENSIFIED. MY THOUGHTS WERE, WE'LL AT LEAST THEY CAN'T SAY THEY DON'T SMELL IT OR GIVE ME THE "CAN'T DUPLICATE IT" DECISION. I ONLY MADE IT HALFWAY WHEN MY CAR HAD A MAJOR ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL FAILURE. IN MY OPINION THE RANDOM SHUTTING DOWN OF THE CAR, THE GAUGES TWITCHING/FLICKERING, THE STRANGE KNOCKING NOISE AND THE SMELL/ODDER WAS ALL PART OF THE SAME PROBLEM. CORRECTED FAILURES: IN REFERENCE TO THE FIRE, THAT WILL BE UP TO GM HOWEVER, AFTER READING THE NHTSA ALARMING NUMBER OF 2005-2007 CHEVROLET COBALT COMPLAINTS AND TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS ONE WOULD BE LED TO BELIEVE THAT THERE SHOULD BE MORE THAN JUST A COUPLE OF RECALLS. *AK

YES, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I OWN A CHEVROLET COBALT LT COUPE(USED), I'VE HAD THIS CAR FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF. PROBABLY ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER OWNING IT THE GEAR SHIFT SLIPPED OUT OF PLACE. MEANING THAT THE LEVER YOU PUSH TO PUT THE CAR IN AND OUT OF GEAR IS LOOSE. I CAN MOVE THE "STICK" UP AND DOWN WITHOUT ANY WORRY. THE CAR NOW HAS 107000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS SAME SHAKING WHEN DRIVING AND IT BEING VIOLENT WHEN BREAKING. THE DEALERSHIP STATES GM IS AWARE BUT I STILL HAVE HAD TO REDO MY FRONT BRAKES TWICE (WHICH HELPS TEMPORARILY)..THE LAST TIME BEING IN JUNE OR AUGUST OF 2013. THE SHOP TELLS ME THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME WAS THE FRONT ROTORS WERE STICKING AND THE GROUND THEM DOWN SMOOTH. THEN THE SHAKING STARTED AGAIN. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE ROTORS GROUND DOWN AGAIN AND HAVE A SERPENTINE BELT REPLACED. SO HERE I AM AGAIN 7 MONTHS LATER AND WILL HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN BECAUSE THE SHAKING HAS STARTED AGAIN AND IS BECOMING SO BAD IT WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE SHOP AGAIN AT MY COST FOR SOMETHING THEY KNOW ABOUT BUT WILL NOT FIX. ALSO THE PUSH BUTTON LATCH ON THE TOP OF THE SHIFTER WAS STUCK INSIDE THE SHIFTER CAUSING THE SHIFTER TO FREELY MOVE FROM PARK TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE BUTTON BEING PUSHED. HOWEVER, THE RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER HAD NOT BEEN RECEIVED AT THAT TIME. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR WITHOUT THE RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER. LETTER FROM CONSTITUENTS REGARDING PROBLEMS THEIR SON EXPERIENCED WITH HIS 2006 CHEVY COBALT; CONSIDERS IT TO BE A LEMON, SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT (FULL DOCUMENT NOT IMAGED). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HIS SON WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED, LEAVING HIM WITHOUT STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE VEHICLE DARTED TO THE LEFT, ACROSS THE OPPOSITE LANE OF TRAFFIC, WHERE HE CRASHED INTO A CURB. THE LEFT CONTROL ARM COLLAPSED, HE HIT HIS HEAD ON THE DOOR POST AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED, THE CONSUMERS RESIDENCE. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY, AND AGAIN STEERING CAPABILITIES WERE LOST. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START, AND IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEIR TESTING COULD NOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED 6 MORE TIMES, RESULTING IN A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. EACH TIME, THE PROBLEM WAS BLAMED ON THE POWER CONTROL MODULE. THE THIRD INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE HIS SON WAS DRIVING ON A CURVY MOUNTAIN, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THERE WAS NO STEERING ABILITY. HIS SON WAS TRAVELING AT A LOW SPEED AND HE STEERED THE VEHICLE INTO A DITCH DAMAGING THE RADIATOR, THE ENGINE PAN AND THE FRONT BUMPER COVER. THE LAST ACCIDENT TOTALED THE VEHICLE, WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED IN TRAFFIC, THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKES FAILED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *JB

AUSTIN MORRIS). *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2007 AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAULTY IGNITION WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER STATED GM STATED THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED DURING THE TIME, THEY WERE FILING FOR RE-ORGANIZATIONS AND WAS NOT GOING TO HONOR THE RECALL. *JB
