TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A STRONG FUEL ODOR WAS PRESENT IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,939.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSERTING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FUNCTIONED AS NORMAL, BUT THE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE STARTED TO NOTICE THE FAILURE AFTER HAVING RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 101,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ONCE IN A WHILE THE SIGN CHECK THE AIR BAG SHOWED UP, BUT NOW IT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. CAR NEVER WAS INVOLVED IN ANY CRASH. THE SENSOR OR THE AIR BUG MUST BE FAULTY FROM THE BEGINNING. *JS
HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF. I HAVE TO UNPLUG FUSES TO PREVENT BATTERY FROM DRAINING. I WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THIS WAS A FAILURE OF THE BODY CONTROL MODULAR. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE AND IT IS APPARENTLY A DESIGN FLAW. WATER IS ABLE TO GET UNDER THE COVER AND FLOOD THE BCM, CAUSING IT TO FAIL. WILL COST OVER $500 TO REPAIR. I AM A BROKE COLLEGE STUDENT. *TR
I RECEIVED MY FIRST RECALL IN OCT 2010. THEY NEVER SENT ME AN APPOINTMENT TO GET IT FIXED. I WAS TRAVELING 45 MPH WHEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CAR SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT A BRIDGE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. ALLSTATE CLAIMED IT WAS MY FAULT AND THEY ARE NOT PAYING ANY OF MY MEDICAL BILLS OR LOST WAGES, AND NOTHING ON THE CAR. REAR WINDOW DEFROST STOPPED WORKING. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THE CONNECTOR FOR THE REAR DEFROST WAS MELTED. UPON DOING RESEARCH ON DEFECTIVE REAR DEFROSTER ON 2007 CHEVY COBALT, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. ON JANUARY 17, 2011 THE REPAIRS FOR RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) WERE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME STIFF. THE TRACTION CONTROL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THE DEALER INSPECTED AND STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDICATED A FAULTY TRACTION CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER VERIFIED WHAT THE DEALER STATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,252.
HAD CONTROL ARM REPLACED ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO DUE TO BUSHING NEEDING TO BE REPLACED NOW IT NEEDS TO BE DONE AGAIN I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT THIS AND I DONT KNOW ABOUT ANYONE ELSE BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO CONTINUOUSLY REPLACE THESE PARTS THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINT FOR THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL CAR I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY GM HAS NOT BEEN REQUIRED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IT IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
THE KEY CAN NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. EVENTHOUGH THE SHIFTER IS IN THE PARK POSITION. THE KEY DOES NOT RETURN TO THE REMOVE POSITION. YOU CAN TURN THE ENGINE OFF, BUT THE KEY REMAINS IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION SO THE BATTERY RUNS DOWN. REPEATED EFFORTS OF CYCLING THE SHIFTER AND TURNING THE WHEEL DOES NOT RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE SHIFTER WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $287. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED WHEN I RETURNED HOME AND WAS ABLE TO PARK IN MY OWN GARAGE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNFORTUNATE IF I HAD BEEN ON A TRIP OR AN IMPORTANT ERRAND AND WOULD HAVE TO LEFT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IN A PUBLIC AREA. WHEN I "GOOGLED" THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET IN AN EFFORT TO FIND A SIMPLE SOLUTION, I FOUND NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THE COBALT CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 A CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING INDICATOR. THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING). AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED THE DEFECT RECURRED. THE REMEDY DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF PROBLEM. I TRIED TO OPEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, FROM THE OUTSIDE, AND THE HANDLE BROKE OFF. I AM NOT A PERSON OF UNUSUALLY GREAT STRENGTH. THE CAR IS LESS THAN TEN YEARS OLD. THE WINTER CONDITIONS ON JANUARY 10, 2011 IN THE GREAT NORTHWEST WERE NOWHERE NEAR AS COLD AS OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. THIS DOOR HANDLE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED DUE TO THE AGE OF THE CAR, THE WEATHER, OR MY OPENING THE DOOR IN THE USUAL MANNER. THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE OF THE 2007 COBALT NEEDS TO BE MADE STRONGER. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE A LIFE IS LOST. SHOULD A PERSON NEED MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND ANOTHER DOOR HANDLE FAILS, A DEATH COULD OCCUR.
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT TOOK IT IN JULY 2010 TO HAVE POWER STEERING UNIT REPLACED AS PER RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED WAS NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEM WITH THE ONE PRESENTLY ON THE VEHICLE. IN DEC 2010 STARTED NOTICING PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING LOCKING UP GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE LOCAL DEALER WHERE I LIVE WHICH WAS NOT UNTIL JAN 2011 DUE TO HOLIDAYS DROPPED OF MY VEHICLE TO BE CHECKED WHEN I PICKED IT UP WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING UNIT WAS BAD AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER IT THEN THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY THE NEW PART THEY HAD PUT ON IN JULY 2010 WAS ONLY SIX MONTHS OLD CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD VEHICLE HAD TO MANY MILES ON IT AND COST OF REPLACING WOULD NOT BE COVERED IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE ISSUES OF THE SAME TYPE SINCE 2005 AND HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED MY QUESTION IS HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM I AM HAVING AFTER THE UNIT HAS BEEN REPLACED MY OTHER CONCERN IS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE LOSE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING MY SAFETY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD MAY BE AT RISK IF THIS HAPPENS. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS TO THE VEHICLE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ATTEMPTED TO WALK THE CONTACT THROUGH MANUALLY RELEASES THE KEY BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE KEY REMAINED STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,058.

THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND, AFTER RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. IN 2010, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED RECENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON, POWER STEERING GOES OUT, RPM, SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGES GO TO ZERO THEN RAPIDLY MOVE BACK AND FORTH, TRANSMISSION SLIPS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AUTO THEFT LIGHTS COME ON. I HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING RECALL FIXED. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES NOW. AT FIRST IT WOULD GO AWAY IF THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, HOWEVER, NOW I HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 1.5 WEEKS. *TR
I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT THAT ON NOVEMBER 18, 2010 GASOLINE BEGAN TO LEAK OUT OF THE GAS TANK AT THE FUEL PUMP. APPROXIMATELY 10 GALLONS OF GAS LEAKED OVER ABOUT 60 MILES OF ROAD BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. THERE EXISTS A RECALL ON 2007 CHEVY COBALTS IN A FEW STATES BUT NOT IN VIRGINIA. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME SAFETY FAILURE AS NOTED IN OTHER STATES BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE IDENTICAL VEHICLES TITLE IN VIRGINIA. THE VIN IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT NOT VIRGINIA TITLED CARS. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WHEN THE POWERING STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD NOT OPERATE CAUSING DIFFICULTY IN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, AND THEN RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED FOR TWO MINUTES AND THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED OF A RECALL AND INFORMED THAT THE POWER SYSTEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
THE LEFT FRONT SPEAKER STARTED GOING OUT (COULDN'T HEAR WORDS OR MUSIC WELL). SOON AFTER IT COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING AND WHEN IT QUIT SO DID THE RIGHT SIDE. IT'S ONLY THE DOOR SPEAKERS. THE BACK ONES WORK FINE.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 COBALT AND STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, WHEN I SAW SMOKE ROLLING OUT FROM THE CAR. LUCKILY MY CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR. WITHIN MINUTES MY CAR WAS UP IN FLAMES. THE ENTIRE CAR, EXCEPT THE TRUNK WAS GONE. THERE WAS NO SAVING THE CAR. EVERYTHING WAS BURNED TO A CRISP. TODAY I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL, I WAS WONDERING IF THAT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH MY FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DEFECT DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE REQUIRED STATES MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT HAS A LEAK IN THE GAS TANK, WHICH IS COMING FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2006 AND 2007 BUT SINCE MY CAR WAS PURCHASED IN FLORIDA 2007 I AM NOT COVERED.THIS IS A HAZARDOUS CAR AND CAN CATCH ON FIRE. WHEN THE CAR IS ON A FLAT SURFACE IT LEAKS LIKE A FAUCET. WHEN IN A ANGLE IT DOES NOT LEAK BECAUSE OF THE POSITION OF THE FUEL PUMP. I CALL GM AND THEY SAID SINCE MY CAR WAS PURCHASED IN FLORIDA 2007 I WAS NOT COVERED. THAT IS NOT MY FAULT. THEY ALSO STATED SINCE I HAD HIGH MILES THEY PROBABLY COULD NOT DO NOTHING ANYWAY. I AM STILL PAYING FOR THIS CAR, AND THIS REPAIR IS GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE. THEY SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE FOR THEIR DEFECTED CARS THEY SEND OUT. THEY ARE LUCKY THAT WHEN ME AND MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING IN IT DID NOT BLOW UP, THIS WOULD HAVE COST THEM MORE MONEY THAN JUST TO REPAIR IT. FOR THIS VERY REASON, THAT IS WHY AMERICANS BUY FOREIGN CARS DUE TO RELIABILITY. ITS SAD. NOW AT 52,000 MILES INSTRUMENT PANEL AND TAIL LIGHTS WENT OUT, STATIC ON RADIO. FOUND BLOWN FUSE, REPLACED AND IT BLEW OUT AGAIN, LEAVING ME WITH NO INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS OR TAIL LIGHTS. I DROVE MY CAR ABOUT 1/2 MILE TO THE LOCAL CVS. WHEN I LEFT I STARTED THE CAR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HAD LOST PRESSURE AND DID NOT HAVE BRAKES. I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. I PULLED OVER IN ANOTHER PARKING LOT AND PUMPED THE BRAKES TO GET PRESSURE BACK. CAR RAN FINE FOR A 15 MILES. THE SAME NIGHT I DROVE TO ANOTHER LOCATION AND LOST PRESSURE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT. I PULLED OVER AND PUMPED THE BRAKES AGAIN. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR SINCE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, NOR DIAGNOSE IT. THEY SAID IT WAS INTERMITTENT AND MOST LIKELY THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM ANY OF THE BRAKE LINES OR AROUND THE TIRES. THE PROBLEM IS THEY CANNOT SAY FOR SURE IF THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING INTERNALLY OR IF A GASKET OR SEAL IS FAILING. I AM GOING TO HAVE THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AND HOPE THAT IS THE PROBLEM, BUT I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY OR AT FAST SPEEDS BECAUSE I HAVE NO CAUSE FOR THE BRAKE FAILURE. I AM THANKFUL I WAS NOT GOING FAST, OTHERWISE THE ONLY WAY TO SLOW THE CAR WOULD BE TO DOWN SHIFT AND USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THIS PART IS ALSO NOT WARRANTIED, BUT I AM SURPRISED IT IS ALREADY FAILING BEFORE I HAVE CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, OR DRUMS. IT IS WEIRD. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PART TO COME FROM THE PLANT? GM'S STEEL WHEEL RIMS (PART NUMBER: STL08021U45 / BASE PART# : STL08021U ) ARE DANGEROUSLY WEAK METAL/ - THEY BEND VERY EASILY. I HAVE 3 BENT RIMS ON MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT. (THESE SAME MODEL WAS ALSO STANDARD ON 2007-2008 SATURN AURA, AND 2006 -07 CHEVROLET MALIBU ) I HAVE 3 BENT RIMS ACCORDING TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP - AND WAS TOLD THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED.
