TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2007. SHE NOTICED THAT THE KEY WAS HARD TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION. IN FEBRUARY 2007 THE POWER STEERING FAILED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 16,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 30-40 ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER CONTINUED WITH CAUTION EXPERIENCING EXTREME DIFFICULTLY IN STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE STATION. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE 14,500.
NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY, JUST DRIVING, AND A WARNING 'BEEP, BEEP, BEEP,' THE 'POWER STEERING' WARNING COMES ON IN THE DASH WHERE THE TEMPERATURE AND MILEAGE ARE, AND THE POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING. THE WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO TURN AND CONTROL IS LOST IF ALREADY IN A TURN. MY SON HAD TO HELP ME STEER. SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT, AND THEN THE POWER STEERING WILL COME BACK ON, BUT THE INTERVAL OF OPERATION GETS SHORTER AND SHORTER. NOT DRIVING CAR NOW. TOO DANGEROUS, CANNOT STEER. *TR
POWER STEERING PROBLEMS ON OUR 2007 CHEVY COBALT. OUR 18 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OFF. COMPLETELY. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY WITH AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER. WE WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALER TOMORROW IN HOPES OF FIXING THIS PROBLEM. CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT HAS HAD THE POWER STEERING GO OUT ON IT A FEW TIMES SINCE IT STARTED IN FEB 2010. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND WOULD HOPE THAT CHEVY WOULD LOOK INTO THIS AND FIX IT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. A CHIME SOUNDED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IMMEDIATELY, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE DRIVER CONTINUED WITH CAUTION; AND EXPERIENCED EXTREME DIFFICULTY STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE POWER STEERING MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED WITHIN A TWO TO THREE WEEK PERIOD AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE POWER STEERING MOTOR. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) GM 2007 COBALT [XXX] LATE AT NIGHT COLD AND RAINY I WAS DRIVING SLOW TRYING TO TURN ON 9TH AVE FROM FAIRFIELD DR. THE CAR STEERED ITSELF AS I COULD NOT STEER IT, INTO A DEEP DRAINAGE DITCH. MY PASSENGER HEAD ALMOST WENT THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD, MY SAFETY BELT BRUISED MY NECK AND SHOULDER, PAINFULLY. MY PASSENGER WAS BLEEDING PROFUSELY, A PERSON STOPPED AND TOOK US FOR HELP. I WAS SO SHAKEN UP AND IT HAPPENED SO FAST, THAT I COULD NOT FIND MY CELL PHONE TO CALL 911. THE NEXT DAY MY GRANDFATHER WHO HELPED ME PAY FOR THE CAR, HAD THE CAR PUT ON A TRAILER AND STORED IN A COVERED SECURE AREA WHERE IT IS STILL STORED AND UNTAMPERED WITH. WE CONTACTED GM, IT HAS BEEN OVER TWO MONTHS, WE JUST RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THEIR ATTORNEY. TO TOP THIS ALL OFF, I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER TWO DAYS AFTER IT HAPPENED! AND THEN I WAS TOLD THAT MY INSURANCE DOES NOT HAVE COLLISION COVERAGE BUT ONLY COMPREHENSIVE. I WORK HARD AND GO TO COLLEGE FOR TWO MONTHS I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR TAXES, OVER $35.00 PER DAY. I LOVED THIS CAR BUT NOW I WILL NOT RIDE IN ONE. I STILL HAVE NIGHT MARES ON THE CRASH. I AM BEHIND IN MY BILLS. THANK YOU GM FOR NOT HELPING ME. I WISH TO HAVE THIS CAR EXAMINED. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY SOMEONE TO INSPECT THE STEERING NOR CAN I PAY FOR AN ATTORNEY. YOUR HELP IS DESPERATELY NEEDED, AS MY GRANDFATHER BELIEVES THAT GM WILL DELAY THIS REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT. DRIVER WAS CHANGING LANES ON HIGHWAY IN A 2007 CHEVY COBALT WHEN HER STEERING WHEEL FROZE UP ON HER. SHE COULD NOT CORRECT STEERING AND HER BRAKES SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AS WELL. SHE HIT A CONCRETE BARRIER, HER CAR WENT AIRBORNE AND STARTED ROLLING. SHE WAS EJECTED ABOUT FIFTY FEET. VEHICLE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS. THE AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T INVESTIGATE DUE TO HER CAR BEING JUST 12,000 MILES OVER WARRANTY. (ECONOMIC LOSS RULE) THE CAR IS STILL BEING HELD FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION PER REQUEST OF THE DRIVER. VEHICLE NEVER HAD TROUBLE BEFORE THIS. DRIVER WAS SEVERELY INJURED SPENDING 10 DAYS IN HOSPITAL, 2 OF THOSE IN ICU. DRIVER HAD COMPLICATIONS DUE TO INJURIES, NOW ON ROUND THE CLOCK IV'S AT HOME. *TR
DRIVING ON WV RT. 10 IN LOGAN COUNTY, WV. POWER STEERING FAILED. PULLED OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF, STARTED IT UP AGAIN, STEERING OK. A FEW MILES LATER, POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN. I WAS APPROX 100 MILES FROM HOME, AND EVERY 10 MILES APPROX., THE POWER STEERING FAILS. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, IT WILL COST LOTS OF $ THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO FIX. *TR
I MADE A COMPLAINT A MONTH AGO ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. I HAVE TO MAKE ANOTHER ONE BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY UPSETTING HAVING TO PAY A CAR NOTE EVERY MONTH AND HAVE TO GET TO AND FROM WORK IN THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T EVEN RESTART AFTER CUTTING THE CAR OFF. IT IS UNSETTLING TO KNOW I AM AND MANY OTHERS ARE DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR AND I'M LEFT WITH NO OTHER CHOICE AS TO THE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I KNOW THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION OUT ON THIS CAR AND THE EPS BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS. I REALLY HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE SO LONG THAT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT HAPPENS FROM THIS. I HAVE A 2007 COLBALT LT AND HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND STRUTS REPLACED AT 40,000 MILES. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS SHAKING WHEN PUTTING ON THE BRAKES AND HAD A LOUD NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP WHEN THEY REPLACED THE BRAKES AND STRUTS. THE STRUTS SHOULDN'T GO UP THIS QUICK. NOW THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. *TR
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE AND I CALLED MISSION CHEVROLET IN EL PASO TX TO SCHEDULE AND APPOINTMENT AS PER THE RECALL NOTICE, I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HE TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT SINCE HE DID NOT ANTICIPATE HAVING PARTS AVAILABLE BECAUSE HE WAS ONLY RECEIVING 15 PARTS AND THEY WOULD BE USED FOR FIRST COME FIRST SERVE CUSTOMERS. I WORK FULL TIME AND AM A DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP SO I HAVE TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AND ACCORDING TO HIM THE RECALL CHECK WOULD REQUIRE MY LEAVING CAR FOR THE DAY. ALL OF WHICH IS QUITE DIFFERENT TO WHAT WAS DESCRIBED ON THE RECALL NOTICE OF A 15 MINUTE CHECK AND AN HOUR AND A HALF REPLACEMENT TIME IF NECESSARY. SO NOW I AM AT A DISADVANTAGE IF I CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE AND COULD BE JEOPARDIZING MY SAFETY. *TR
ON FEBRUARY 10, 2010, WHILE TRAVELING WEST ON 14TH STREET ANOTHER DRIVER IN THE LEFT LANE ENTERED MY LANE (RIGHT LANE), AND I SLAMMED ON BRAKES TO STOP FROM HITTING THE OTHER DRIVERS VEHICLE. DESPITE THE FACT IT WAS A SUNNY VERY COLD DAY OUTSIDE AND THE STREETS WERE DRY THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE LOCKED UP AS THOUGH I HAVE AN ANTI-LOCKING BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH I DON'T HAVE ON MY CAR. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME NONE RESPONSIVE AND MY CAR ENDED UP JUMPING THE CURB AND HITTING A TELEPHONE POLE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR. THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT AND A DENT IN THE SAME AREA IN THE SHAPE OF THE POLE; FURTHERMORE, THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A GM BODY SHOP BEING REPAIRED BY THE OTHER DRIVERS INSURANCE; HOWEVER, IN LIGHT OF THE RECENT GM RECALL ABOUT AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL I AM BRINGING MY ACCIDENT TO YOUR ATTENTION JUST IN CASE THE ISSUES ARE RELATED. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT LS. FOR APPROX 3 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING MY CAR DUE TO THE STEERING WHEEL BEING LOCKED UP. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HAD VARIOUS TYPES OF RATTLING, VIBRATIONS, AND COMPLICATIONS WITH MY STEERING COLUMN. TODAY (FEBRUARY 9, 2009) I WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK AND MY KEY ONLY WENT TO THE FIRST POSITION (NOT START POSITION) AND IS CURRENTLY STUCK THERE. MY STEERING WHEEL WONT MOVE, AND NOTHING, NOTHING, WORKED ON TRYING TO REMOVE MY STUCK KEY. I HAVE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT, AND HE BELIEVES THAT IT IS THE STEERING COLUMN NOW INTERFERING WITH THE IGNITION. I AM VERY VERY UPSET THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED, HOWEVER, I'M GLAD THIS WAS NOT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT IS EXACTLY WHY THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. I WAS DRIVING GOING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN "POWER STEERING" FLASHED ACROSS THE SCREEN. ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT AND VERY DANGEROUS, AS I WAS ON A VERY CRAMPED ROAD. I THEN TURNED OFF MY CAR, AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, IT BEGAN TO WORK AGAIN, ABOUT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, "POWER STEERING" FLASHED ACROSS THE SCREEN ONCE AGAIN, AND IT WAS NO LONGER WORKING. LOUD CLUNKING COULD BE HEARD DURING TIP-IN/ TIP-OUT OF THROTTLE. RETURNED WAS CAR TO DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED SUSPENSION CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 39,672 MILES, IS PRIMARLIY HIGHWAY DRIVEN, AND HAS SEEN VERY LITTLE USE OVER THE LAST 16 MONTHS. STEERING CONTROL HAS DIMINSHED OVER TIME WHILE EFFORTS HAVE INCREASED. FAILURE OF CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS SEEMS PREMATURE FOR NUMBER OF MILES DRIVEN. *CN

MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER 2007 CHEVY COBALT LTZ AND THE POWER STEERING WENT AWAY. THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON STATING POWER STEERING. SHE PULLED OVER, STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. SHE MANAGED TO ARRIVE AT HOME WITHOUT THE PROBLEM RECURRING. SHE TOLD ME ABOUT IT AND I WENT TO THE CAR AND STARTED IT, BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, STARTED DOWN THE STREET AND THE POWER STEERING LIT UP ON THE DASH AGAIN AND IU HAD NO POWER STEERING. I STOPPED, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. I NEED FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS FROM GM BEFORE MY DAUGHTER, OR ANYBODY ELSES CHILD HAS AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ALARM ACTIVATED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY TIGHT AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000: STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM AND CONTACTED THE DEALER TO INQUIRE. THE DEALER ADVISED SHE WOULD FIRST NEED TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE, AT HER EXPENSE, BEFORE HONORING THE RECALL. THE CONTACT DECLINED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN A DASHBOARD WARNING INDICATED A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING AND IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. PULLED OFF, TURNED OFF CAR AND RESTARTED AND PROBLEM WAS CLEAR. I OWN A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT WITH ROUGHLY 45,000 MILES. JUST RECENTLY, THE POWER STEERING HAS BEGUN TO FAIL. I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND, ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE STEERING WHEEL GETS VERY HARD TO STEER AND THE "POWER STEERING FAILURE" NOTIFICATION BEEPS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST 3 WEEKS. THE FIRST TIME I WAS MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN AND FELT THE WHEEL "POP". THE OTHER 2 TIMES I WAS JUST DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT THE WHEEL TURNED AT ALL. I HAVE CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY CLAIM TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM BUT SAY THAT THEIR CHEVROLET DEALERS DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. THE 2007 COBALT HAS AN ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM WITHOUT THE STANDARD HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND NO POWER STEERING FLUID. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I AM DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 60+ MILES PER HOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CANNOT STEER MY CAR. I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I TOOK MY CAR TO A GM DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST ME $60.00 JUST TO LOOK AT MY CAR. I WAS ALSO QUOTED $900.00 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT GM NEEDS TO PAY FOR THE CORRECTION OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2007 CHEVY COBALT ON DECEMBER 30, 2009. SINCE THE PURCHASE, IT HAS HAD INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. LAST WEEK, DURING A 7 MILE TRIP, THE POWER STEERING FAILED ON FOUR OCCASIONS. PREVIOUSLY, TURNING CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON RESOLVED THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, SINCE THIS ISSUE WAS GETTING WORSE, WE TOOK THE CAR INTO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND REPORTED THAT IT NEEDED A NEW POWER STEERING MOTOR. THIS WAS REPLACED FOR A TOTAL OF $371 PLUS DIAGNOSTICS FOR $95. THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 45,000 MILES ON IT. APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH COBALTS - RECALL MIGHT BE A GOOD SOLUTION!! THIS CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN BY A 16 YEAR-OLD DRIVER. THANKFULLY SHE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND NO ACCIDENTS OCCURED.
2007 CHEVY COBALT THE PROBLEM STARTED HAPPENING DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, OUT OF NO WHERE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. IT HAPPENS VIRTUALLY EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN... AS A RESULT THE CAR MUST BE SLOWED DOWN AS QUICKLY AS POSSSIBLE ,PULLED OVER PUT IN PARK,, RESTARTED. AND THEN START ON MISSION AGAIN!!! MY GRANDFATHER AND I EACH BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND EVER SINCE WE HAVE HAD THEM THEY SEEM TO JUST BE FALLING APART AROUND US. MY NUMBER ONE PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IS THE POWER STEERING. I KILLED THE DOG. MY NUMBER ONE CONCERN IS THAT DOG COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN A CHILD OR A GROWN UP SIMPLY WANTING TO CROSS THE STREET. I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE AND I KNOW MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE DON'T EITHER BUT WHAT CHOICE DO WE HAVE, WE CANT GO ON WITH OUR DAILY ROUTINES WITH OUT THESE COBALTS WE ARE ALL SO HEAVILY "RELYING" ON. ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT, THE (ELECTRIC) POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED TWICE IN TWO DAYS. THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT "POWER STEERING" CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN. BOTH TIMES WERE AT LOW ROAD SPEED, IN COLD OHIO FEBRUARY WEATHER. MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING BOTH TIMES; IT IS HER CAR TO DRIVE. THE FIRST TIME SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 6 MILES AND WAS APPROACHING OUR DRIVEWAY. SHE HIT A CURB WHEN THE STEERING FAILED WHILE SHE WAS TURNING INTO THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN SHE TURNED THE CAR'S ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, THE STEERING AND WARNING LIGHTS RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE SECOND TIME WAS 24 HOURS LATER WHEN SHE WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS. AGAIN, TURNING OFF THE CAR AND STARTING IT AGAIN MADE THE PROBLEM GO AWAY. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY DAUGHTER'S AND OTHER'S SAFETY IF THE POWER STEERING WERE TO FAIL AT HIGHER SPEEDS OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
2007 CHEVY COBALT OUR POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT 3 TIMES WITHIN THE LAST WEEK WHEN WE HAVE SLOWED DOWN OUR SPEED. TO REMEDY IT WE HAVE TO TRY TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR AND THEN RESTART IT. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN LAST WEEK. *JB

2007 CHEVY COBALT - WHEN DRIVING THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP APROX EVERY 10 MINUTES NOW WAS LONGER PERIODS OF TIME. RATTLING BUMPING NOISE UNDER CAR, DRIVERS SIDE BY TIRE, STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN DRIVING SPEED LIMIT AND INCREASES WITH SLOWING DOWN. DEALER IDENTIFIED PROBLEM AS INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ON GM VEHICLES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER STEERING FIRST FAILED. THE CAR BECAME SLIGHTLY MORE DIFFICULT AT HIGH SPEED AND EXTREMELY TUFF AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS OCCURRED AROUND 50K IN THE MANUAL IT SAYS TO SHUT OFF THE CAR AND TURN STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY AROUND COMPLETELY. THIS TEMPORARILY FIXED THE ISSUE UNTIL IT BECAME A DAILY MATTER IN WHICH IT HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST TEN SECONDS OF STARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A 2007 CHEVY COBALT LS 2 DOOR, AUTO. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON CERTAIN CHEVY COBALTS BUT NOT ALL OF THEM. MY VIN NUMBER IS TOLD NOT TO APPLY YET IS CLEARLY THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT ON 1/31/10, MY POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO DRIVE WITH POWER STEERING. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, CHECKED BELTS AND FLUID, ALL WERE FINE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES THAT DAY. ON 2/2 /10, WHILE DRIVING, AGAIN THE SAME LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF THE CAR, WAITED A MINUTE AND RESTARTED IT. AGAIN THE PROBLEM CLEARED ITSELF. I HAVE MADE AN APPT. WITH THE SERVICE DEPT. WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT I COULD FEEL IT WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. AFTER AWHILE THE WHOLE FRONT IN WAS STARTING TO VIBRATE. WHEN I WOULD BE DRIVING IT FELT LIKE TO WHOLE ENGINE WAS GOING TO FALL OUT. THE NOISE WAS VERY LOUD AND ANNOYING. I SERIOUSLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. I FINALLY GOT IT REPLACED, BUT THIS IS TWO THINGS IN THE LAST YEAR, THE FRONT END BUSHING AND THE STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE RESUMED OPERATION WITHOUT POWER STEERING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE I S IN THE PROCESS OF BEING TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,900.
