2007 CHEVY COBALT: ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILS DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE, POWER STEERING LOCKS UP AND POWER STEERING FLASHES ON COMMUNICATION SYSTEM AFTER HEARING 3 DINGS. ALSO SMELL GAS IN CAR SMELL IS VERY HEAVY AT TIMES, THIS IS A 2007 CHEVY COBALT AND CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
I HAVE AN 07 CHEVY COBALT. I'VE BEEN READING ONLINE ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING GOING OUT ON PEOPLE, AND I'VE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, FOR I WILL BE DRIVING ALONG ON MY WAY TO SCHOOL OR WORK AND THE STEERING ESSENTIALLY SHUTS OFF, AND IS SO HARD TO STEER THAT A STRONG 185-POUND MAN, SUCH AS MYSELF, CAN BARELY MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH ON THE FREEWAY AND ON NORMAL ROADS. IT IS WORSE ON THE NORMAL ROADS, BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN TURN OFF ONTO A PARKING LOT OR SIDE STREET TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS NOW, AND CHEVY HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM (A FAULTY ELECTRONIC MOTOR THAT CHEVY ADMITS WEARS OUT AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT MILES, SO EVEN IF YOU TAKE IT TO GET IT FIXED IT WILL JUST GO OUT AGAIN) AND YOU PEOPLE HAVE NOT ENFORCED A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM IS BECOMING MORE FREQUENT, AND ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMEONE IS GOING TO LOSE THEIR LIFE OR KILL SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE OF THIS. I'VE BEEN READING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THAT OTHERS HAVE BEEN CONTACTING YOU PEOPLE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND YET NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT LT HAS POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP AT THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND A LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING BAD AND REPLACED THE BUSHING HOWEVER IT DID NOT FIX THE POWER STEERING PROBLEM. THE STEERING IS LOOSE AND FEELS LIKE PART OF THE STEERING MAY BREAK AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. THE RACK AND PINION THAT IS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS AT FAULT AND HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF OWNERS OF THESE CARS ARE HAVING DANGEROUS STEERING PROBLEMS. PLEASE HELP GM UNDERSTAND THAT PEOPLES LIVES ARE ON THE LINE THAT DRIVE THESE CARS. I FEEL GM SHOULD HAVE A RECALL TO SAVE LIVES AND TAKE CARE OF THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE CHEVROLET COBALT. MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT'S POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING IN AND OUT, CAUSING A TREMENDOUS DISADVANTAGE WHEN TRYING TO STEER THE CAR. I HAVE HAD ONE INCIDENT OF SIDESWIPING A POLE BECAUSE I COULD NOT MAKE THE TURN AS THE POWER STEERING FAILED AT THAT POINT. IT HAS FAILED MULTIPLES TIMES OVER THE LAST 8 MONTHS. SO FAR NO INJURIES OR MAJOR ACCIDENTS, BUT AM CONCERNED AS THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN IT GOES OUT. *TR
I PURCHASED A PREOWNED 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT TWO WEEKS AGO. THE POWER STEERING JUST TURNED OFF MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. I HAVE BEEN DOING ALOT OF RESEARCH AND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. IT ISN'T CHEAP TO FIX RANGING FROM 900 TO 2500. I OWN A 2007 COBALT, THERE WAS NO WARNING LEADING UP TO THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT, I WAS JUST DRIVING ALONG WHEN SUDDENLY I COULD HARDLY TURN THE WHEEL. GOOD THING I WASN'T GOING VERY FAST AND I WAS CLOSE TO HOME. IT WAS VERY HARD TO TURN INTO MY DRIVEWAY. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THIS DEFECT GM SHOULD FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
ON THE 07 CHEVY COBALT LS MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY LEAVING ME WITH NO STEERING. MY MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 46,000 MILES. WHEN THE VEHICLE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON IT WORKS FINE UNTIL IT RANDOMLY STOPS POWER ASSISTING WHICH SEEMS IF I USUALLY DRIVE A 5-6 MILE RADIUS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL MALFUNCTIONED. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,185.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THE STEERING COLUMN WILL LOCK. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE , THE FAILURE WILL REOCCUR. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44200. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44639.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT WITHOUT WARNING. I WENT TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHO ACKNOWLEDGED IT IS AN ELECTRONIC ASSIST AND THEIR HAVE BEEN SOME PROBLEMS. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEIR IS NO NOTICE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND NO SET OF DUPLICATING CONDITIONS WHICH INITIATE THE PROBLEM. THIS WOULD APPEAR TO BE CHEVROLET DESIGN FLAW. I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE COBALT SERIES OF VEHICLES AND SAW MANY INTERNET RELATED SITES ONE OF WHICH DIRECTED ME HERE. I BELIEVE CHEVY IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION UNTIL PROMPTED BY A MAJOR LAWSUIT FROM A DEATH OR THE INTERVENTION OF THE GOVERNMENT. AT THE COST FOR A REPLACEMENT IT WILL BE A BUYING DECISION FOR MOST CONSUMERS AS THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO BE INTERMITTENT. *TR
I KNEW EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 29,000 MILES THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING MOTOR ON MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT. DURING A DRIVING TEST, MY DAUGHTER COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL. THE MOTOR OVERHEATED. WE TOOK IT TO A AUTO SHOP AND THEY SAID THE MOTOR WILL CONTINUE TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT WAS MADE AND THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO BUT THAT I SHOULD COMPLAIN TO CHEVY. ONE DAY IN NOVEMBER 2009, IT OVERHEATED AND I COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL WHICH CAUSED ME TO RUN UP A CURB. MY TIRE WAS DAMAGED AND I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. IT COST ME 50.00 FOR THE TOW AND AROUND 200.00 FOR A NEW TIRE, WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND LABOR. THE MECHANIC SAID IT IS A BAD DESIGN, THAT THEY SHOULD'VE REMOVED THE MOTOR AND REPLACED IT WITH A TRADITIONAL PUMP. HE SAID THAT WILL BE THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT OVERHEATS DAILY AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER-ESPECIALLY FOR A SMALL FEMALE. CHEVY SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THESE MOTORS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
WAS DRIVING ALL AT ONCE HAD NO CONTROL OVER STEERING. WAS ABLE TO GET TO SHOULDER. TURNED OF CAR, LET SIT A FEW MINUTES. STARTED BACK UP HAD DONE GOOD SINCE. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. I HOPE IT DOESN'T GO OUT AGAIN WITH MY GRANDKIDS IN CAR WITH ME. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER. *TR

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE REPAIR PART WAS ON A BACK ORDER. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER PART. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,001.
I PURCHASED A 2007 CHEVY COBALT NEW. AT ABOUT 8,000 MILES, I NOTICED AT LOW SPEEDS, WHEN I TURNED TO THE RIGHT, THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD MAKE A NOISE AND JERKY MOTION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNED AFTER ONLY 300 MORE MILES. *TR

THE STEERING WHILE DRIVING LOCKS UP AND THE DTC LIGHT COMES ON SAYS POWER STEERING DRIVING GETS HARD TO STEER. WIRE TO REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER SHORTED OUT. CAUSED A FIRE TO THE REAR PASSENGERS QUARTER PANEL. BURNED CORNER OF ROOF, SEAT, AND BACK WINDOW. LUCKILY MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS DRIVING WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN WHEN FIRE BROKE OUT AND NO PASSENGERS IN THE BACK SEAT. *TR
I HAVE HAD A SERIES OF PROBLEMS WITH MY 2007 CHEVY COBALT IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. FIRST IN NOVEMBER OF 2009 MY WHEELS WERE TOO BENT UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEN IN DECEMBER 2009 MY CLUTCH BURNED OUT AFTER ONLY 47,000 MILES. EVERYONE I EVER SPOKE TO NEVER HEARD OF A CLUTCH BURNING OUT SO SOON. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65MPH WHEN NO MORE POWER WAS BEING SUPPLIED TO THE VEHICLE AFTER PRESSING DOWN ON THE GAS. I ROLLED INTO A NEARBY GAS STATION AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DIAGNOSTIC CONFIRMED MY SUSPICION. I HAD IT REPLACED TWO WEEKS LATER WHEN I HAD THE MONEY. NOW ITS FEBRUARY AND MY PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT ENGAGE. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN 2007 AND HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE DONE ON THE CAR, IE BRAKES, OIL, FILTERS. I COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED AND I FEAR DRIVING THE CAR THINKING SOMETHING ELSE WILL BREAK DOWN. NO WARNING SIGNS OF ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS WERE NOTICEABLE. *TR

THE CONTACT FEELS THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.

CAR HAS NO POWER STEERING NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER UNDER 30 MPH. VERY TIGHT AND DANGEROUS OVER 30MPH WONT MAINTAIN LANE ON BEND OR CORNER. CAUSES EXTREMELY HIGH PUBLIC SAFETY CONDITIONS. CAR CAN BE RESET BY TURNING OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING CAR, PROBLEM HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER LAST FEW DAYS AND MANY TIMES OVER LAST FEW MONTHS , HAS HAPPENED ONLY ONE TIME IN CORNER CAUSE DRIVER INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
POWER STEERING ON 2007 CHEVY COBALT SS DIED. MY WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT HAPPENED WHILE ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND COULD HAVE ENDED VERY BADLY. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. MY CAR ONLY HAS 43K MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING TO A 3 YEAR OLD WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE. *TR

NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR BEEPS TWICE AND THE WORDS "POWER STEERING" APPEARS ON MY DASH. THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED THIS WAS IN OCTOBER 2009. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SOLD ME THE CAR AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED WITH COBALTS. THE PROBLEM WAS FAIRLY INCONSISTENT UNTIL THE PAST MONTH, IT NOW HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. I FIND IT HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN I AM TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE CAR NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF AND BACK ON TO REGAIN STEERING. USUALLY THE STEERING GOES OUT ABOUT EVERY TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES. *TR
WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASING A NEW 2007 CHEVY COBALT - I BEGAN HEARING RATTLING NOISES FROM MY VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN FOR REPAIRS NUMEROUS TIMES. MULTIPLE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND OR REPAIRED. I CURRENTLY HAVE 15,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE - TO THIS DAY I CAN STILL HEAR RATTLING NOISES AND CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING-SUSPENSION. THE MECHANICS HAVE NOW TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG AND SUGGESTED I TRY A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVY AND RECEIVED NO HELP IN SETTLING THIS ISSUE. IF CHEVY WOULD OF HAD THEIR RETURN POLICY WHEN I PURCHASED - I WOULD OF GLADLY RETURNED THE VEHICLE - I MAKE CAR PAYMENTS ON A LEMON. I DON'T EVEN LIKE MY DAUGHTER TO RIDE IN THE VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF HER SAFETY. I FEAR I WILL BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE FRONT END WILL FALL APART. IT SCARES ME TO DEATH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET COBALT. SHE STATED WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY IN LIGHT RAIN CONDITIONS, SHE HEARD A LOUD BOOM AND SCREECHING SOUND. IMMEDIATLEY AFTERWARD, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PULL TO THE LEFT. SHE ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE VEHICLE OFF THE HIGHWAY HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO HER STEERING. SHE THEN TAPPED ON THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS NOW PROCEEDING BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE THEN PROCEEDED UP A NEARBY GRASSY HILL, TURNING OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL SHE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE FRONT WARD. THE BRAKES AND STEERING STILL WOULD NOT RESPOND TO DRIVER INITIATION. THE VEHICLE THEN PROCEEDED BACK DOWN THE GRASSY HILL AND BACK TOWARD TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE STOPPED ONCE BACK ONTO THE CEMENT PAVEMENT. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS TOTALLY COLLAPSED OUTWARD AND THE TIRE WAS SHREDDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND THE RACK AND PINION FAILED, HOWEVER THEY WOULD NOT TAKE ANY LIABILITY FOR THE FAILURES. THEY STATED SHE MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING IN THE HIGHWAY TO HAVE EXPERIENCED CATASTROPHIC FAILURES. THE CONTACT WAS SURE SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING IN THE ROAD AND THE FAILURE WAS UNEXPECTED AND UNEXPLAINED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE, TO DATE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 51,000.

OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING A 2007 COBALT BACK TO UCF. SHE AVOIDED GETTING HIT BY A SPEEDING DRIVER. WHEN SHE TRIED TO RETURN TO HER LANE HER STEERING WAS LOCKED AND HAD NO CONTROL OF CAR. SHE SPUN AND TOTALED THE CAR. SHE DID NOT HIT ANY OTHER CAR. THE AUTO WAS TOTALED. STATE FARM HAS ALL DOCUMENTATION. THE CAR WAS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED. I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY COBALT, AND AT AROUND 45,000 MILES THE POWER STEERING SIMPLY WENT OUT WHILE I WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD. THE CAB WAS FILLED WITH A BURNING SMELL, AND THE VEHICLE BECAME NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED ABOUT 3 MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING AGAIN. I BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN, AND MADE IT ABOUT TWO OR THREE MORE BLOCKS WHEN IT WENT OUT AGAIN, AND AGAIN THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH A BURNING SMELL. I CONTACTED A CHEVY DEALER WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT SAYING THAT THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A FAULTY POWER ASSIST MOTOR. THIS STARTS AT AROUND $2500. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT HUNDREDS.. MAYBE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME CAR. MANY HAD PAID THE $2,000-$2,500 TO HAVE THIS MOTOR REPLACED ONLY TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM REOCCUR WEEKS LATER. SO, I HAVE YET TO HAVE IT FIXED. TODAY I GOT A RECALL NOTICE FOR A FUEL PUMP ON THIS CAR, BUT CHEVY STILL REFUSES TO CORRECT THE FAULTY POWER ASSIST MOTOR WHICH ACTS AS THE POWER STEERING. ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE LOSING STEERING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND DEATHS OCCUR. AS FOR MY CHEVY COBALT.. ITS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL I CAN FINISH PAYING IT OFF, AND THEN I'LL BE CALLING A JUNKYARD TO COME GET IT. JUST A THOUGHT... BUT ITS AMAZING HOW FOR ANY OTHER PRODUCT.. A DISHWASHER...
