TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL INFORMATION REGARDING A POTENTIAL CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. THE CONTACT WANTED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIR; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL "FIXED" ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, AND TODAY I GO TO START IT AND EXACT SAME THING, KEY STUCK IN IGNITION, NOW WHEN I SEARCH RECALL FOR MY CAR IT SHOWS NOTHING UNDER MY VIN, NOW I'M STUCK WITHOUT MY CAR BECAUSE PREVIOUS DEALERSHIP DIDN'T FIX IT CORRECTLY AND THE RECALL IS THE OBVIOUS REASON!
VEHICLE TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL TO START. SMELLED FUEL FOUND FUEL LEAK COMING FROM FUEL LINE NEAR DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL. SAW FUEL LEAKING OUT ON TO THE FLOOR OF GARAGE WHILE PULLING THE CAR INSIDE.
TAKATA RECALL MY VEHICLE WAS HIT HEAD ON I HAVE PICTURES OF THE AIRBAG AND MY HEAD IMPACTING TOP WINDSHIELD INSURANCE SETTLE NET ME 3750. LUMBAR 4,5 BROKEN THUMB SEVERED FROM RIGHT HAND IN UNCONSCIOUS ATTEMPT TO HOLD MY SELF IN SEAT OBVIOUSLY THAT THUMB GAVE WAY BUT DID MORE THAN THE AIRBAG WHICH DID NOT EVEN CLEAR THE STEERING WHEEL ALL MY RIBS WERE BROKEN ONSTAR ALREADY NOTIFIED MY ATTY ISN'T VERY SMART ON THIS I HOPE THE AGENCY HAS SOME WAY TO AVOID PUBLICITY TO HURT ANY GM BUT I WANT TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE TIME LOST APPROX 1 YEARS AT MY AVERAGE EARNINGS AND FUTURE ABILITY FOR REHABILITATION OR MINOR SURGERY
AFTER FINDING HER CAR HARD TO START IN THE MORNING ACCOMPANIED BY THE SMELL OF GASOLINE (THE LONGER IT SITS, THE WORSE THE SMELL) MY DAUGHTER TOOK HER CAR TO A LOCAL GARAGE. HE FOUND GASOLINE ON TOP OF THE TANK. HE ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A PREVIOUS ISSUE ON THE COBALT FOR A FUEL PUMP MODULE (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN 12V459000). THEY PULLED THE TANK DOWN AND FOUND THE FUEL LINES RUSTED THROUGH ALLOWING THE FUEL TO COME OUT IN AN ENCLOSED, INACCESSIBLE AREA. THIS IS A SERIOUS RISK BECAUSE OF THE CHANCE OF A SPARK FROM THE PUMP CONTACTING THESE FUEL VAPORS. IT IS ALSO A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR (OVER $1000 CHARGED) THAT WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO DELAY IN HAVING IT FIXED.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN LOS ANGELES WHEN HER POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. SHE BARELY MADE IT OVER TO SAFETY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHE ON THE HIGHWAY. IT TOOK ALL OF HER STRENGTH TO TRY TO MOVE THE WHEEL. SHE LOST CONTROL OVER THE CAR. WHEN SHE TRIED TO START THE CAR UP AGAIN, IT SEEMED FINE. SHE GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND DROVE CAREFULLY. SHE WOULD DRIVE ABOUT 10 MINUTES AT A TIME BEFORE IT WOULD LOCK UP AGAIN. SHE HAD TO DRIVE THROUGH SOME REALLY SHADY AREAS TO GET HOME SINCE SHE COULDN'T DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. SHE TOOK HER CAR TO A CHEVROLET DEALER WHO SAID THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE 2009 COBALTS. THERE ARE ON THE 2010 FOR POWER STEERING. THEY CHARGED HER $139 JUST TO DIAGNOSE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. SHE IS WAITING TO SEE WHAT IS WRONG. WHEN SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD TO HAVE HER CAR FOR WORK TOMORROW, THEY WERE ADAMANT THAT HER CAR WAS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THE STEERING. THIS IS SUCH A DANGEROUS HAZARD.
STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING FROM VEHICLE. FUEL DRIPPING FROM BOTTOM OF CAR NEAR FUEL TANK. FOUND FUEL LINES ROTTING AND CAUSING LEAKS ON MULTIPLE SECTIONS STARTING AT THE FUEL TANK UP TO THE ENGINE. PROTECTIVE HEAT WRAP HOLDING MOISTURE AND CAUSING LINES TO ROT.
I'M SMELLING A LOUD GAS SMELL COMING FROM THE BACK OF CAR AND LIGHT SMELL COMING HROUGH THE VENTS OCCASIONALLY. I CAN SMELL IT WILL DRIVING AND IT'S LOUDER WHEN IT'S STILL
CAR STARTS HARD, SMELLS LIKE GAS INSIDE AND OUT. WET WITH GAS NEAR GAS TANK WHEN RUNNING. AFTER SITTING A LONG WHILE, NO GAS IS APPARENT ON GAS TANK.
I SMELLED A FAINT GASOLINE SMELL AND MY SIX YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I WOULD GET HEADACHES DURING CAR TRIPS. THE SMELL GOT WORSE OVER A FEW DAYS AND THEN I NOTICED A GAS DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE AREA. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL, HOWEVER PENNSYLVANIA STATE IS NOT INCLUDED UNDER THE RECALL / EXPANSION 09V-419 (GM CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12190). MY DAUGHTER SITS RIGHT ABOVE THIS LEAK AND I HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED YEARS AGO DUE TO FAULTY WIRING WHICH CAUSED A MELTED MESS INSIDE GAS TANK WHERE PUMP IS LOCATED GM HAS YET TO RESPOND ABOUT THAT ISSUE). THE LEAK IS NOW CONSTANT AND THE CAR IS NOT SAFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, FUEL LEAKED FROM THE FUEL TANK ONTO THE GROUND. THE FUEL LEAK CAME FROM UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE DISINTEGRATED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED NEW FUEL LINES AND A NEW FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
THE CAR LIGHTS WILL FLICKER ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. STRONG SMELL OF GAS AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN PARK. BEEN GOING ON FOR THE FLICKERING 2 MONTHS NOW. FOR THE FUEL 2 WEEKS NOW

IN ADDITION, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE, IT ACCELERATED FORWARD INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. FUEL LEAKIMG FROM THE GAS LINES, LEAVING PUDDLES OF FUEL UNDERNEITH VEHICLE AND A STRONG FUEL ODOR WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND TURNED OFF. ENGINE HESITANT TO START AS WELL.
I AM EXPERIENCING A VERY STRONG GAS SMELL AND NOW IT TAKES MULTIPLE TIMES TO START. I AM SEEING A PUDDLE OF GAS JUST BELOW THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT ON THE GROUND WHEN THE CAR SITS FOR A WHILE. MY MECHANIC SAYS THAT HE IS ALSO GOING TO HAVE TO DROP THE FUEL TANK TO FIX THIS. I SEE THAT OTHER STATES HAVE THIS AS A RECALL AND AM WONDERING WHY OHIO ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT SEEMS LIKE THE RIGHT THING TO DO SINCE IT IS THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR AS THE RECALL IN OTHER STATES AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY A RELATED ISSUE!
SMELL OF FUEL, WIRING HARNESS IN TANK AT FUEL PUMP BURNT CAUSING CAR TO STALL, AND TOWED TO STEVES AUTO REPAIR, BURLINGTON WASHINGTON. VEHICLE HAS BEEN THERE FOR 5 DAYS CANNOT FIND REPLACEMENT OEM PARTS.

RUSTED FUEL LINE LEEKING GASOLINE
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE OPERATED AFTER IT WAS MANUALLY RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS INOPERABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A MONTH PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS REMEDIED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V073000 (POWER STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. THE CONTACT CALLED HIESER CHEVROLET (2620 W WASHINGTON ST, WEST BEND, WI 53095, (877) 228-7492) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED IN 2010 AND THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS ACCORDING TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NOTICE. AFTER THE REPAIRS, A STRONG FUEL ODOR WAS NOTICED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAKAGE ORIGINATED FROM THE FUEL LINE RATHER THAN THE MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ISSUES ON THE FUEL MODULE WERE RELATED TO THE WARRANTY REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
THIS CAR HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING POWER STEERING ISSUES, WHERE THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, BUT FOR SOME REASON ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL. THE POWER STEERING HAS SHUT OFF DURING DRIVING WHICH IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS.
THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL. NOW THE CAR WILL START WITHOUT KEY IN SWITCH. WILL STAY RUNNING WITHOUT KEY IN SWITCH. HAS STALLED OUT WHILE DRIVING NOW IT WILL NOT STAY RUNNING AND GIVES IGNITION SWITCH DTC
I HAVE RECENTLY HAD MY COBALT TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP IN REDLANDS CA DUE TO A HORRIBLE GAS SMELL. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED IF MY CAR WAS UNDER RECALL FOR THE FUEL PUMP HOWEVER IT WAS NOT. I INDEED HAD A CRACK ON THE FUEL PUMP HAVING TO REPLACE IT AS THE FUEL SMELL WAS OVER THE TOP. I PAID FOR THE PART AND LABOR OUT OF POCKET YET WONDER WHY MY VIN WAS NOT RECALLED WHEN I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY COBALT WITH THE EXACT SAME FUEL PUMP ISSUE???

I STARTED TO NOTICE A GAS SMELL WHEN MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. LOOKING ALL OVER THE CAR I DON'T ANY INDICATIONS OF A FUEL LEAK, NO DRIPS, NOTHING. THE SMELL IS MOST DEFINITELY COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. GOOGLING AROUND I FOUND BULLETIN NO.: 12190A WHICH TALKS ABOUT CERTAIN CARS IN PARTICULAR STATES, OF WHICH MY STATE IS NOT INCLUDED. I CALLED GM TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME BUT THEY SAID THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR MY CAR AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST, POINT BLANK DESPITE OTHER CARS HAVING THE VERY SAME PROBLEM.

DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ALL MY ELECTRICAL DASHBOARD UNITS ARE FLICKERING, MY RPM AND SPEED KEEPS GOING ON AND DOWN, AND MY POWER STEERING MESSAGE CAME UP ON THE DASH, THEN IT WENT OUT AND CAME BACK. NOT COOL. NOT COOL AT ALL....

DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH THE TRACTION LIGHT. THE DISPLAY SAYS ENGINE POWER REDUCED, SERVICE TRACTION. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED WHEN THIS HAPPEN BECAUSE MY CAR AUTOMATICALLY SLOWED DOWN TO 10 MPH AND STALLED OUT AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I KEEP GOING TO DIFFERENT MECHANICS AND EVERYONE SAYS ITS SOMETHING ELSE AND I HAVE ALREADY SANK OVER $1500 INTO THIS AND YET IT IS STILL HAPPENING WITH NO END IN SIGHT!!
MY 2009 COBALT BEGAN JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND JUST 3 DAYS AGO, AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY CAR STALLS AND WON'T TURN BACK ON. AFTER LOOKING AT SYMPTOMS, IT IS VERY APPARENT THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS GONE OUT

"TAKATA RECALL" I WAS DRIVING TO WORK. WENT OVER AN ICY BRIDGE. LOST CONTROL, SPUN, AND WENT DOWN HILL AND INTO THE TREES. AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED ON IMPACT. THE CAR IS COMPLETELY TOTALED.

POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT 3 TIMES IN THE LAST DAY. AFTER TURNING CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN POWER STEERING WILL WORK FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THAT VARIES. I HAVE A 2009 CHEVY COBALT AND SINCE I PURCHASED IT IT HAS BEEN PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM FIRST THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION BEFORE THE RECALL. I HAD TO SPEND ALL DAY AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEN I HAD TO TAKE IT BACK FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH RECALL. NEXT IT WAS TAKEN BACK FOR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS AND A CRACKED STEERING COLUMN, NOW I KEPT HEARING A NOISE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS TO SPEED UP TOOK IT TO TWO PLACES AND IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH COST ME $1,548 OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE THE WARRANTY I HAD DIDN'T COVER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THIS CAR ONLY HAS 89414 MILES ON IT I KEEP UP THE MAINTENANCE BUT THIS CAR IS BEGINNING TO MAKE ME NOT WANT TO BUY ANY AMERICAN CAR EVER. I INITIALLY PURCHASED THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ECONOMY CAR,GOOD ON GAS WHICH IS STILL GOOD ON GAS. I SEEN IN THE EARLIER MODELS THERE WERE RECALLS ON THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SO I WAS TRYING TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE ANY ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL? WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR I WAS HAPPY ABOUT THE THE CAR BUT PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM IS BEGINNING TO BE MORE THAN I CAN HANDLE AND THE LAST THING IS THIS CATALYTIC CONVERTER, THANK GOD I HAD THE MONEY. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS CRACKED AND GASKETS HAD TO BE REPLACED.
SMELT FUEL NEAR THE CAR WHEN LEAVING WORK ABOUT 6:30 PM ON 10/3/15. CAR DID NOT INITIALLY START. TOOK CAR TO AUTO ZONE TO HAVE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTED CHECKED, WHICH WERE ALL IN PROPER WORKING CONDITION. THE AUTO ZONE WORKER COULD SMELL FUEL ALSO AND INSPECTED FOR A LEAK. HE FOUND THE LEAK NEAR THE LEFT REAR TIRE. THE NEXT DAY FIRESTONE INSPECTED THE CAR AND PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING: "FOUND HARD FUEL LINES ROTTED OUT ABOVE THE LR TIRE. RECOMMEND TAKING TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE NEW LINE ASSEMBLY INSTALLED." A LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE PART LEAKING ON MY CAR IS THE SAME PART RECALLED ON OTHER GM VINS. HE TOLD ME TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. HE TOLD ME THE ONLY REASON MY CAR DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE RECENT RAIN WE HAVE HAD.

UPDATED 1/20/2016* JS SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED UPDATED 4/16/18*JB CONSUMER STATED ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP FAILURE: DUE TO DETERIORATED PLASTIC FUEL LINES LEADING OUT OF THE PUMP & RETURN LINES? REPLACED WITH A NEW PUMP LEAKING BADLY ONTO GROUND WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE HIGH VOLUME OF LOST FUEL AND A HAZARDOUS CONDITION TO DRIVER AND HIS FAMILY. IT'S A SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.
