TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH AND APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP OR DECELERATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND AN UNKNOWN PART WAS REPLACED. TWO DAYS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND THE SAME PART WAS REPLACED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
I BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY FIRM WITH NO BRAKES AT ALL, THEN I PUMPED THE BRAKES, PEDAL SLOWLY GOES TO THE FLOOR, ANOTHER PUMP AND BRAKING IS WORKING AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NOW HAPPENING WITH MORE FREQUENCY. IT ALSO HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE ONTO A FLAT SURFACE. BRAKES CORRECT THEMSELVES AFTER INCIDENT. I PICKED UP MY GRAND-DAUGHTERS FROM DAY CARE, AND WAS EXITING THE PARKING LOT ON AN INCLINE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, I HAD TO PUSH WITH ALL MY STRENGTH TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. BRAKES PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY FIRM. I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN ON THE SIDEWALK. APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO EXAMINE CAR. I CANNOT IDENTIFY EXACT SITUATION WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS. VERY NERVOUS ABOUT HAVING GRANDDAUGHTER IN MY CAR AND JUST DRIVING IT IN GENERAL, IF THE BRAKES DON'T WORK PROPERLY. *JB
THIS STARTED THIS WEEK, THE ELECTRICAL PARTS (RADIO, SPEAKERS, TURNING SIGNAL CLICKER, AC ETC) WILL CONSTANTLY FLICKER OFF THEN COME BACK ON AFTER ABOUT TEN SECONDS, EVERY TIME I HAVE THE CAR RUNNING. THE STABILITY WARNING WILL SOMETIMES GO ON BUT WILL EVENTUALLY GO OUT. THE SPECIFIC INCIDENT OCCURRED THE THE 27TH OF AUGUST WHEN I WENT TO TAKE A LEFT TURN, ON TO A HIGHWAY. WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A TURN MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT A PASSING CAR AND GET REAR ENDED. IT SPECIFICALLY LOCKED UP AT ABOUT TEN MILES AN HOUR WHILE PICKING UP SPEED. AFTER I RETURNED TO MY PARKING LOT IT LOCKED UP AGAIN AND CAUSED ME TO HIT A BARRIER, SLIGHTLY DAMAGING THE FRONT BUMPER. SINCE THEN MY POWER STEERING WILL SOMETIMES LOCK UP MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS UTILIZED AND ADDITIONAL FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 13V360000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,538.
WHILE PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE CRAWLING INTO POSITION THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE CAR VIBRATED AND LUNGED FORWARD CRASHING INTO A BRICK WALL. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR THE CAR THEN BEGAN TO VIBRATE THEN ACCELERATE FORWARD HITTING BRICK WALL. I BELIEVE THAT THE TURBO CHARGE ENGAGED BECAUSE OF THE VACUUM BOOST FAILED CAUSING THE TURBO TO ENGAGE. FILED COMPLAINT WITH GM NO LUCK SAID IT WAS DRIVER ERROR. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE ARE REPAIRING THE CAR THEN TRADING IN. I HAVE CONTACTED LOCAL MEDIA CAN'T SEEM TO GET ANY HELP. WE HAVE BEEN LOYAL CHEVY OWNERS FOR OVER 20YEARS NEVER AGAIN. I THINK THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO BE WARNED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IF SOMEONE WAS WALKING ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE DIED. *TR
CAR TOWED FROM SERPENTINI TO PROGRESSIVE SINCE THE REPAIR THAT PROGRESSIVE COMPLETED A WEEK PRIOR DID NOT FIX THE EXISTING PROBLEM. CAR SHUTTING OFF AND NOT STARTING. PROGRESSIVE WIRING HARNESS TO UBEC HAS BAD CONNECTION DUE TO UBEC AND WIRING HARNESS CONNECTION STRIPPED OUT, NECESSARY TO REPLACE COMPLETE HARNESS. REMOVED UBEC, REPLACED FUSE BLOCK, MAIN BODY HARNESS, REQUIRED R&R OF BATTERY AND TRAY, EBCM, MASTER CYLINDER AND BRAKE BOOSTER, DASH COMPONENTS REMOVED/LOOSENED TO REMOVE BRAKE/GAS PEDAL BRACKET ASSEMBLY (HARNESS GROMMET INSTALLED BETWEEN BRACKET AND FIREWALL), R&R OF TRUNK PANELS, COMPLETE INTERIOR INCLUDING REAR SEATS, LOWERING HEADLINER. REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER PUSHROD CLIP AND REAR SEAT SIDE BOLSTER CLIP WITH REPAIR. GM PAID FOR THE COST OF THIS REPAIR. ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL ISSUES CONTINUE WITH CAR. WILL ADD AN ADDITIONAL COMPLAINT. *TR
STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND CAR STARTED MISSING WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GO THRU INTERSECTION. CAR STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START. CAR WAS TOWED TO SERPENTINI CHEVROLET IN STRONGSVILLE. THEY INDICATED THE CAR STARTED AT THEIR FACILITY BUT WAS GIVING THE SAME CODE (HECK Z - U0109) THAT PROGRESSIVE CHEVROLET IN CANTON HAD GOTTEN AND PROGRESSIVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE 3 DAYS PRIOR. SERPENTINI INDICATED THE CAR WAS FINE. I COMPLAINED TO PROGRESSIVE AND THEY HAD THE CAR TOWED FROM SERPENTINI BACK TO THEIR FACILITY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY "STICK" IN CENTER POSITION, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE THE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS NECESSARY TO DRIVE STRAIGHT ON A ROAD THAT IS NOT PERFECTLY FLAT. MY CAR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE INTERMITTENTLY THE ENTIRE TIME I HAVE OWNED IT, AND OCCURS IN VARYING DEGREES. I RECEIVED THE LETTER THAT CHEVROLET WAS DOING A SPECIAL COVERAGE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THE PROBLEM, YET MY DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPRODUCE THE ISSUE AND WILL NOT FIX IT. I FEEL THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. A PART DEFECT IN THE STEERING SYSTEM LIKE THIS SHOULD BE FIXED WITH A RECALL, FIXING EVERY VEHICLE. BECAUSE IT'S ONLY A WARRANTY EXTENSION, THEY WILL SIMPLY NEVER REPRODUCE THE ISSUE AND IT WILL NEVER BE FIXED. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME COMFORTABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TUG ON THE BATTERY CABLE IN ORDER TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT DECIDED TO REMOVE SOME CLIPS ON THE BATTERY CABLE AS A TEMPORARY REMEDY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SKID, CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,800.
I WHEN TO THE DEALER TO GET A NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG I GIVE THEN MY VIN AND THEY TELL ME MY OIL BRAIN PLUG PART NUMBERS WAS 55568037 WHEN I INSTALL THE OIL PLUG BACK I DAMAGE MY OIL PAN BECAUSE THE IS THE WRONG PART MY CAR HAS THE OIL PLUG PART NUMBER 96041864 BUT WHEN THEY CHECK ON THE COMPUTER IT SHOWS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER NOW I MY TO REPLACE MY OIL PAN. *TR
I OWN A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE LTZ. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS NEW IN MARCH 2012. RECENTLY, THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM HAS STARTED TO OCCUR WITH SOME FREQUENCY. WHILE BACKUP UP AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL. AFTER PUSHING THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, THE VEHICLE STOPPED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES OVER THE PAST SIX WEEKS. THE BRAKES FUNCTION FINE WHEN DRIVING FORWARD. THIS PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE FOR AT LEAST SEVERAL MINUTES, OR EVEN LONGER SUCH AS OVERNIGHT. TODAY, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. I WAS UNABLE TO REPEAT THE BRAKING PROBLEM. THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THEY WOULD RESEARCH ANY RECENT BULLETINS AND CALL ME BACK. *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITH "POWER STEERING SERVICE" ERROR ON DISPLAY. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER (ALMOST LOCKED UP) AND I CERTAINLY COULD NOT MAKE A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. THIS SEMI-LOCKING UP OF THE POWER STEERING REMAINED AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING. INDEED, THE ONLY WAY TO RESTORE POWER STEERING WAS TO STOP THE CAR AND LET THE ENGINE COOLED FOR 20 MINUTES OR MORE. THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME TO MY CAR IN JUNE OR JULY TIME FRAME. CHEVROLET REPROGRAMMED THE STEERING MODULE. BUT THE POWER STEERING LOCKUP WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (~50MPH) HAPPENED AGAIN IN AUGUST. CHEVROLET REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION STEERING. AND THE LOCKING UP OF THE POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED (~50MPH) STILL HAPPENED AGAIN ON 09/10/2013. THIS TIME, CHEVROLET CHANGED THE "D POWER STEERING MODULE POWER & GROUND HARDNESS". SO, CHEVROLET HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNSUCCESSFULLY TWICE BEFORE THIS THIRD WARRANTY REPAIR. I HOPE THIS FIX IT. BUT I FEEL I NEED TO REPORT THIS TO THE NHTSA SINCE I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT (SUDDEN AND SUSTAINING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE STEERING) EVERY TIME THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED. *TR
AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, I ATTEMPTED TO PROCEED THRU THE INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR STARTING MISSING AND THEN STOPPED AND WOULD NOT START. CAR WAS TOWED TO PROGRESSIVE CHEVROLET AND THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS NOT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE REPAIR NECESSARY TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPON BACKING DOWN DRIVEWAY, IT WAS EVIDENT THAT BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP PRESSURE WAS LOST. IT TOOK AN EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF PHYSICAL EFFORT TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ADEQUATELY ENOUGH TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP. UPON SWITCHING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, PEDAL PRESSURE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO NORMAL. WE HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED THAT OUR 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE ECO IS INCLUDED IN RECENT BRAKE RECALL. *TR
8/6/13-THE TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH DOES NOT WORK. DIAGNOSIS WAS FAULTY TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH, THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED IT. HVAC BLOWER MOTOR IS NOISY AND RATTLES CAN BE HEARD INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE CAR. ALSO HAD INTERMITTENT DELAY WHEN TURNING HVAC ON. TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR. COULD NOT FIND REASON FOR DELAY. 1/22/14 - HVAC BURNING SMELL WHEN RUNNING HEAT. TECHNICIAN REPLACED HVAC CASE WITH NEW DESIGN GREASE ON IT. FILLED COOLANT. 7/24/14- SAME THING HAPPENED TO TRUNK RELEASE WAS REPLACED AGAIN. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE SENSOR DID NOT WORK, IT WAS REPLACED. THE VENT IN CAR FOR BLOW TAB BROKE OFF, IT WAS REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE JERKED BEFORE ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEARS, BEARINGS, AND HOUSING IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE METAL FILINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,390.
I BOUGHT A 2012 CHEVY CRUZE ECO THAT HAS 4 GOODYEAR ASSURANCE FUEL MAX TIRES ON JULY 12, 2013. I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM MY PARENTS HOUSE APPROXIMATLEY 30 MILES AWAY. I GOT ABOUT 4 MILES OUT OF TOWN AND MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE SCREEN ON THE DASH AND I WAS SLOWLY LOSING TIRE PRESSURE. I MADE IT BACK HOME WITH 6 PSI OF AIR IN MY TIRE. (IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE 35 PSI.) I GOT HOME AND LOOKED AT THE TIRE AND IT HAS ABOUT A 3/4" CRACK ON THE OUTSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. I PUT AIR BACK IN IT AND IT DEFLATED AGAIN PRETTY QUICK. *TR
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRICAL INSIDE MY CAR CUTTING IN AND OUT, ALL ELECTRICAL TURNS OFF. SERVICE CHECKS COME ACROSS DASHBOARD FOR POWER STEERING, STABILITY CHECK CONTROL, AND TRACTION CONTROL. THE POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING AT TIMES AS WELL. I AM NOT SURE BUT IF YOU ARE TURNING IT APPEARS THAT THE TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. HEADLIGHTS ARE DIMMER THAN NORMAL WHEN IT CUTS IN AND OUT, IT FLICKERS WITH THE SHORTAGES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES NOW. THE FIRST TIME THEY TIGHTENED A GROUND WIRE, THE SECOND TIME THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM, THIRD TIME THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE, AND NOW I'M TAKING IT BACK A FOURTH TIME TO HAVE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE REPLACED. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. *TR
DRIVER WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 15-20 MPH WHEN TRAFFIC STOPPED IN FRONT OF HER. DRIVER WAS AT A SAFE DISTANCE BEHIND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. HOWEVER, AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES THE CAR DID NOT STOP AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE DRIVER COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY THE CRASH HAPPENED AS SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WOULDN'T STOP. NOT ONLY DID THE VEHICLE NOT STOP BUT IT ALSO HAD EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE WITHOUT ANY AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. BOTH ISSUES ARE VERY CONCERNING TO THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED BUT STILL FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING LIKE THEY SHOULD. *TR
THE TRUNK RELEASE SWITCH THAT IS LOCATED ON THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT WORK. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE TRUNK IS BY USING THE KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE. THOUGH THIS DOES NOT POSE A DIRECT THREAT TO SAFETY IT IS EXTREMELY INCONVENIENT DUE TO THE NEED FOR THE KEY JUST TO OPEN AN UNLOCKED VEHICLES TRUNK. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ONLY BEING ONE YEAR OLD WITH 50,000 MILES (SO THE WARRANTY IS OUT) AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS I PAY FULL PRICE. *TR
HEAT RADIATES FROM LEFT SIDE OF CENTER CONSOLE INTO DRIVERS SIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT ONTO DRIVERS RIGHT LEG. VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS. GM DECLINED TO FIX PROBLEM AND OFFERED NO WRITTEN REASON. THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECTED TO A EARLIER RECALL INVOLVING PART OF THE ENGINE HEAT SHIELD BEING REMOVED. THE RECALL OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 500 MILES ON IT. I AM CLAIMING WARRANTY FRAUD ON THE PART OF GM. I AM CONSIDERING LITIGATION UNDER THE MAGNUSON - MOSS WARRANTY ACT. *TR
OUR BRAKES GOES VERY HARD AT TIMES AND YOU HAVE TO PUSH HARD AS YOU CAN TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. TOOK THE CAR TO MY LACAL DEALERSHIP THEY TEST DROVE MY CAR AND SAID IT WAS JUST FINE AND SENT ME ON MY WAY . I CALLED GM AND THEY SAID A DEALER ALREADY LOOKED AT MY CAR AND TOLD ME THE SAME THING . ONE WEEK LATER A NATIONAL RECALL ON ALL 2011-2012 CHEVY CRUZE WAS ISSUED FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS I SPOKE TO THE SURVIVE MANAGER WHO SAID HE WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN HE KNEW ABOUT THE RECALL , IT'S BEEN TWO WEEKS WITHOUT ANY CALLS FROM HIM. WHILE DRIVING ON ORTEGA HIGHWAY WHICH IS A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND IS A CONNECTOR ROAD FROM INLAND EMPIRE TO ORANGE COUNTY WITH NARROW LANES RUNNING THRU CLEVELAND NATIONAL FOREST, I WAS DRIVING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF, STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, VARIOUS COMPUTER PANEL LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND THE CAR BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE TO THE POINT WHERE IT ALMOST WENT OVER CLIFF. THIS WAS THE MOST HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE AND LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. I HAVE CONTACTED GM DIRECTLY AND WILL CONTACT THE MEDIA IN THE EVENT I RECEIVE NO RESOLUTION. THE CAR IS A SAFETY HAZARD AT THIS POINT AND NOT DRIVABLE. SADLY I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR. I JUST STARTED BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AT THE GROCERY STORE, AND WHEN I WENT TO HIT THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDLY MOVED AND THE CAR KEPT ROLLING. I APPLIED EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAUSE I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER PARKED CAR. IT EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP JUST INCHES FROM THE OTHER CAR. THEN WHEN I LEFT THE PARKING LOT I PROCEEDED TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT, WHICH WAS RED AT THE TIME, I APPLIED THE BRAKE, AND IT DID THE SAME THING! I ALMOST REAR-ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME! I FINALLY GOT THE CAR HOME, BUT I KEPT GREAT DISTANCES BETWEEN OUR CAR AND THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN, AND I MADE IT HOME SAFE! LATER IN THE DAY, I TESTED THE BRAKES AGAIN, BY BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN! MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS! THIS CAR IS GOING TO THE GM DEALER TO GET FIXED! LAST NIGHT MY WIFE AND I (WHO IS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT) GOT INTO OUR 2012 CHEVY CRUZE AND WENT TO BACK OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. WHEN BACKING OUT THE CAR STARTED SHAKING REALLY WEIRD AS I RELEASED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. I RELEASED FULL AND CONTINUED TO BACKUP AS I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. WHEN I WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AGAIN I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN ALL THE WAY AND THE CAR BARELY STOPPED. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN TIME BEFORE HITTING THE MULTIPLE CARS BEHIND MY VEHICLE.I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND PULLED FORWARD INTO THE PARKING SPOT AND AS I WENT TO STOP AGAIN IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE. THE CAR WOULD NOT FULLY STOP NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT ALSO HAS A 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT HAS STABILITRAK-STABILITY CONTROL, WITH TRACTION CONTROL. THE BRAKES ARE 4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK, FRONT DISKS, REAR DRUMS. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN LORDSTOWN, OHIO. I READ AN ARTICLE IN THE JACKSON CITIZEN REGARDING A DEFECT IN THE BRAKE ASSIST FUNCTION THAT HAD BEEN LINKED TO 27 ACCIDENTS. GM ANNOUNCED THE FRIDAY BEFORE THAT IT WAS AWARE OF THE 27 CRASHES, BUT STATED THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CARS INVOLVED ARE 2011-2012 1.4L ENGINES THAT WERE BUILT IN LORDSTOWN. GM SAID FOR OWNERS TO TAKE THEIR CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, (MINE IS A LEASE), FOR REPAIR OF THE BROKEN PART. MY DEALER, [XXX] IN PLYMOUTH SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I PURCHASE THIS CAR A LITTLE OVER 3 WKS AGO. DROVE OK AT DEALERSHIP. PROBLEM: I PUT CAR IN REVERSE AND STILL HAD FOOT ON BRAKES FELT CAR MOVE. IN MAY OF 2013, OUR 2012 CHEVY CRUZE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED FLOWING COLD AIR AND WOULD BLOW ONLY HOT AIR. AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED BY DEALER GM MECHANIC IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CONDENSER HAD BEEN HIT BY FOREIGN MATERIAL (ROCK) CREATING A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER AND LETTING ALL OF THE FREON OUT. IT COST ABOUT $600-700 TO FIX. ON MY OWN I FOUND THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS OTHER REPORTS OF CONDENSERS BEING DAMAGED BY ROCKS, AND THAT THROUGH A GM TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB PI0461B) ISSUED IN THE SUMMER OF 2012 THE PROPER REPAIR FOR THIS WAS REPLACING THE CONDENSER AND INSTALLING A CONDENSER PROTECTIVE SCREEN. SINCE THE TSB INCLUDES ADDING A PROTECTIVE SCREEN AS A DESIGN MODIFICATION IT IS APPARENT THAT GM/CHEVY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE CRUZE, AND THAT THE PLACEMENT OF THE CONDENSER MAKES IT SUSCEPTIBLE TO DAMAGE FROM ROCKS. THIS WAS THE POINT THAT I ATTEMPTED TO ARGUE WITH GM WITH NO AVAIL, THAT SINCE THIS DEFECT WAS IDENTIFIED PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE OF THE CAR, THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. ALTHOUGH, I WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING GM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCT, I HOPE TO HELP ANYONE THAT IS THINKING ABOUT BUYING A CRUZE OR HAS A CRUZE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH CRUZES STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY AND HAVE A DAMAGED CONDENSER MAKE SURE THEY INSTALL THE CONDENSER SCREEN. FOR PROSPECTIVE BUYERS I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO INSIST THAT YOUR CRUZE HAVE THE CONDENSER SCREEN INSTALLED PRIOR TO PURCHASE. *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A SLIGHT STEERING CORRECTION, THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS TO STICK AND IT TAKES EXTRA EFFORT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. THAT EXTRA EFFORT SUDDENLY MOVES THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING SEEMS TO RETURN AND THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO MOVE AS THOUGH THE DRIVER IS JERKING THE STEERING WHEEL. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO HOLD A STEADY, SMOOTH TRACK AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE STEERING CAN ALSO EXHIBIT THIS SAME TYPE OF STICKING WHILE SITTING STATIONARY BUT THIS DOESN NOT CAUSE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THOUGH IT DOES NOT DO THIS ALL OF THE TIME, IT IS EASY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE LONG ENOUGH TO START THIS ERRATIC STEERING ISSUE. THE DEALER HAS STATED THAT THE GM SERVICE REP HAS NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE NO TSB'S OR RECALLS IN EFFECT SO THEY CAN DO NOTHING. THIS IS THE SAME METHOD OF IGNORING THE PROBLEM THAT GM USED IN DEALING WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER MICRO SWITCH ISSUE. NEVER HEARD OF THAT PROBLEM EITHER, EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE HAD COMPLAINED OF THE SAME THING ON A CHEVY FORUM AND NUMEROUS WRECKS HAD OCCURRED. DRIVING BACK HOME CAR STARTED TO JERK AND ALL LIGHTS ON DASH BEGAN TO FLICKER. PULLED OVER AND WITHIN A MINUTE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE FROM UNDER THE HOOD THEN BEHIND DASH. STATE TROOPER PULLED BEHIND ME AND ASSISTED SEE WHAT WAS THE TROUBLE. LIFTED UP THE HOOD AND SAW ENGINE WAS ON FIRE AT THE REAR OF ENGINE. TROOPER BEGAN TO HELP REMOVE PERSONAL ITEMS BUT CAR WAS IN FLAMES VERY QUICKLY FROM AROUND REAR OF ENGINE. CONTACTED THE CHEVY DEALER IN VIRGINIA BEACH FROM WHICH THE CRUZE WAS PURCHASE. NEVER GOT A RETURN CALL. CONTACTED THEIR FINANCE MANAGER ONCE A WEEK. NO REPLY. CONTACTED MAIN MANAGER LEFT MESSAGE. AGAIN NO REPLY. THE ONLY CALL I GOT FROM CHEVY WAS THEIR GM FINANCIAL WHERE THE LOAN IS.. THEY WANTED THE PAYOFF QUICK AND VERY LITTLE ASSISTANCE IN HELPING TO GET INFO ON WHAT TO DO NEXT.. WOULD HAVE LEFT IT ALONE BUT SON IS IN NAVY AND NEEDS A CAR. THE ONLY HELP WE GOT WAS FROM THE TROOPERS THAT REFER US TO THIS SITE. I'VE GONE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP (MANFREDI CHEVY DEALERSHIP OF STATEN ISLAND, NY) & THEIR MECHANIC DIDN'T DETECT A SMELL BUT BLAME IT ON SOMETHING ELSE LIKE A CLOGGED A/C VENT AND CHARGED ME BIG MONEY. THEIR MECHANIC DIDN'T TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT STUPID OR SENILE. MY NEIGHBOR AND OTHERS CAN SMELL THE 'BURNING RUBBER' SMELL ESPECIALLY WHEN USING THE HEATER, WHICH I'VE HAD TO USE ONLY IN EXTREME COLD WEATHER WITH THE VENTS CLOSED. MY FEAR IS AN ENGINE FIRE. I HAVE CALLED & EMAILED GM AND ACCORDING TO THE VIN #, THERE IS NO ISSUE FOR A RECALL WITH THAT CRITERIA, ETC. YET, I GO ON LINE AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME MODEL & YEAR THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. SOME FLUID IS LEAKING ON A HOT ENGINE AND BURNING CREATING THE SMELL. MY CHILDREN HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE COME UP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND GM DENYING THERE'S A PROBLEM. I ONLY HAVE 15,000 PLUS MILES ON THAT ENGINE...STILL LIKE NEW. I HOPE TO KEEP AND DRIVE IT FOR AS LONG AS GOD LETS ME. I HAVE 11 GRANDCHILDREN & 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN...AND ONE OF THEM WILL INHERIT THIS CAR. I'D APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE OR INFO ON MY ISSUE. STRONG ODOR OF COOLANT ENTERING THE INTERIOR OF CAR WHEN HEATER IS USED. BECOMES STRONGER IF WINDOW IS OPEN WHILE DRIVING . ODOR IS NOT PRESENT WHEN AT STANDSTILL. OPEN OPENING HOOD WITH ENGINE OFF ODOR CAN BE SENSED NEAR THE WATER PUMP AREA. DEALER REPLACED WATER PUMP A WEEK AGO TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS 28 K ON IT. *TR
THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELS TOO FAR BEFORE THE BRAKES ENGAGE. I TOOK IT TO JIM BISHOP CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. I THINK CHEVROLET IS HIDING THE FACT THERE IS AN ISSUE. I SEE A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE BRAKES ON CRUZETALK.COM. MY WIFE DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR. IT ONLY HAS 1100 MILES ON THE CAR. I AM GOING TO TRADE THE CAR IN NEXT MONTH. I DON'T FEEL SAFE. TOO BAD, I WILL GIVE THE PROBLEM TO SOMEONE ELSE. I GUESS THAT IS THE CHEVROLET WAY. *TR
2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO COOLANT SMELL IN VEHICLE. *SMD ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE, THE SURGE TANK AND HEATER CORE OUTLET AND WATER PUMP WERE LEAKING. THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. *JB
BRAKES HAVE BEEN MAKING NOISE ONLY 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. CAR DOESN'T HAVE SIGNIFICANT MILEAGE FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. *TR
SINCE MARCH 30, 2015, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH AND I HAVE VIDEO EVIDENCE WHILE IN FAILURE MODE, OF WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE FAILURES OF THE BODY COMPUTER(S) IN THIS VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYS HAVE BEEN GOING ON AND OFF UNDER A WIDE VARIETY OF DRIVING SITUATIONS, AND WHILE SITTING AT IDLE. THEY FAULT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SIMPLY DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. DURING THESE FAULTS, THE CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY FOR THE HVAC AND ENTERTAINMENT WILL FREQUENTLY TURN OFF. THIS KILLS THE RADIO. IT AT TIMES KILLS THE HVAC SYSTEMS AND THE TURN SIGNALS (AT LEAST THE NOISE FOR THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS). AT TIMES, THE CENTER DISPLAY ABOVE THE STEERING COLUMN WILL GO BLACK AND THEN DISPLAY A MESSAGE ABOUT THE STABILITRAK HAVING FAILED AND REQUIRING IT TO BE CHECKED. THEN IT RETURNS TO NORMAL MODE. THIS IS LESS FREQUENT AN OCCURRENCE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY UNDER CRUISE CONTROL, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED ONE INCIDENT OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHILE THE DISPLAYS WERE IN FAULT MODES. THIS OCCURRED ON APRIL 1, 2015 I BELIEVE. THE DRIVER'S FEET WERE ON THE FLOORBOARDS. NOT TOUCHING ANY PEDALS AT ALL. THE INCIDENT WAS STOPPED BY THE DRIVER FIRMLY PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN SUFFICIENT VIDEO EVIDENCE IS ACCUMULATED ON THESE FAILURES THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP. LACKING ACTUAL DEMONSTRATIVE EVIDENCE OF THE FAILURES, THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KNOW WHAT TO REPAIR OR REPLACE. THE CAR HAS A HISTORY OF DASH DISPLAY ISSUES. THE OWNER, A RETIRED LIBRARIAN/RESEARCHER FROM GENERAL MOTORS ADVANCED ENGINEERING STAFF AND THE R&D CENTER, HAS WORKED ON UNINTENDED ACCELERATION LEGAL CASES FOR THE COMPANY, AND HAS SUPPORTED LITIGATION DEFENSE WORK ON SUCH ISSUES WHILE AT THE COMPANY. HE IS STILL GATHERING EVIDENCE BUT FEELS THE NEED TO DOCUMENT THIS INCIDENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR NHTSA SHOULD AN ACCIDENT OCCUR TO HIM DUE TO THIS. IS A VERY HIGH RISK
I HAVE A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE ECO, WITHIN A YEAR I HAD TO HAVE THE TURBOCHARGER REPLACED. BEFORE I HAD IT REPLACE I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WITH COMPLAINTS OF LOSING POWER AND THE SMELL OF GAS AND EXHAUST. THEY SAID WORKING AS NORMAL; WITHIN DAYS IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE. I CALL ONSTAR TO DO A DIAGNOSIS' IT WAS MY TURBOCHARGER. IT WAS FIX BUT A FEW DAYS LATER IT SMELT LIKE FUMES AGAIN. TOOK IT IN AND THEY SAID WORKING AS NORMAL. A YEAR LATER THE TURBOCHARGER WENT OUT AGAIN AND I PAID 1200 TO HAVE IT FIX. LONG STORY SHORT I'M STILL SMELLING EXHAUST EVEN AFTER HAVING ALL THE RECALLS FIX. NOW MY STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON THE OFF AGAIN. THIS CAR WAS A LEMON FROM THE BEGINNING BUT I'M OUT OF WARRANTY. I THOUGHT BY NOW THEY WOULD OF HAD A RECALL ON THEIR TURBOCHARGER AND THE OIL LINE THAT THEY SAY THAT KEEPS GETTING BLOCK AND THE EXHAUST SMELLL. IS ANYONE WORKING ON ALL THESE COMPLAINTS?
