AFTER HAVING THE UNDERBELLY SHIELD MODIFIED ON MY SISTER'S 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE ECO PER THE RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 12V288000) I NOTICED AN INCREASE IN BUFFETING AND HIGHWAY SPEED WANDERING IN THE HANDLING OF HER CAR.THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT SPEEDS OF APPROX 75 MPH AND HIGHER. THE CAR FELT LESS STABLE THAN IT DID PRIOR TO THE RECALL SERVICE BEING PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. BECAUSE OF THIS, I PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT UNDERBODY SHIELD FROM A DEALER AND RE-INSTALLED IT. THE RESULT OF THIS RE-INSTALLATION WAS NOISE BACK TO NORMAL, HANDLING BACK TO NORMAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SOUR ODOR BEING EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS ANTIFREEZE, WATER AND MOLD UNDER THE ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A PLUG HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED IN THE LINE, CAUSING THE LEAK INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CARPET AND THE FIREWALL INSULATOR PAD HOWEVER, THE MOLD REMAINED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO THE PROLONGED LEAK AND THE EXTENSIVE MOLD THAT ACCUMULATED IN THE VEHICLE, IT WAS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE CONTACT HAD DEVELOPED LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE CONTACT HAD INHALED LARGE AMOUNTS OF ETHYLENE GLYCOL AND SUFFERED MAJOR RESPIRATORY ILLNESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE CONTACT AT THE ORIGINAL PRICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,500.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY INTO A STREET AND HAD NO BRAKES. I PUSHED THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING, CAR KEPT ROLLING. ANOTHER INCIDENT I WAS WAITING IN A DRIVE THROUGH AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHILE THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
CHEVROLET'S RECALL FIX ON THE 2011-2012 CHEVY CRUZE INVOLVE CUTTING OFF LARGE PORTIONS OF THE UNDERNEATH HEAT SHIELD, THIS PIECE IS ALSO A DEBRIS SHIELD. BUT NOW WITH THE HEAT SHIELD COMPLETELY GONE, THERE NOW IS NO PROTECTION FROM DEBRIS ENTERING UNDER THE HOOD AND CAUSING MORE DAMAGE, ALSO WITH THIS FIX GM IS COMPROMISING THE BIGGEST SELLING POINT OF THIS CAR WHICH IS THE GAS MILEAGE, THIS SHIELD IS ALSO USED TO REDUCE DRAG UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND IN TURN INCREASING GAS MILEAGE, BUT NOW DRAG WILL INCREASE UNDERHOOD WHICH WILL DECREASE FUEL MILEAGE. IN VERY WET CLIMATES THIS SHIELD HELPED PREVENT WATER FROM SPRAYING UP UNDER THE HOOD AS WELL, AND BY REMOVING THIS SHIELD OUR CARS ARE NOW MORE PRONE RUST, CORROSION AND ABNORMAL WEAR TO VITAL PARTS. GM HAS DONE A HORRIBLE JOB AT FIXING THIS PROBLEM, NO LOGIC OR OBVIOUS CARE WERE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. IF THIS KIND OF SIMILAR PROBLEM HAPPENED ON A CADILLAC OR A CORVETTE WOULD HAVE THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM THE SAME WAY?? PROBABLY NOT, SO WHAT MAKES MY CHEVY CRUZE ANY LESS IMPORTANT? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUPPORT FOR THE HEADREST RESTRAINT WOULD NOT REMAIN FASTENED ONTO THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT. THE HEADREST WAS REPLACED BUT THE REPLACEMENT HEAD REST COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED TO THE OCCUPANT'S HEIGHT. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF ISSUE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A DESIGN CHANGE ON THE HEAD RESTRAINTS AND THE CONTACT HAD BEEN PROVIDED WITH THAT NEW DESIGN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

INFORMED OF RECALL ON JULY 29TH BY ON-STAR AND CONFIRMED BY DEALERSHIP ON MON. 7-30-2012 AND FEEL DEALERSHIP MISLED ME AND HID RECALL IN ORDER TO COMPLETE SALE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,535. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 6,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.

THEY HAVE COMPLETELY REMOVED THE WHOLE CENTER SECTION OF THIS SHIELD SO NOW MY ENGINE IS EXPOSED TO ROAD SPRAY. THIS WAS A SELLING POINT ON THIS VEHICLE AND I FEEL WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED OUT OF THIS FEATURE. THEY SHOULD HAVE OFFERED TO REPLACE IT WITH A NON COMBUSTIBLE UNIT. *TR

STEERING: AROUND ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, I HAD MY 2012 CHEVY CRUZE UNDER PANEL MODIFIED DUE TO A POTENTIAL ENGINE FIRE. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, I EXPERIENCED A "WANDERING" IN MY VEHICLE. I NOTICED IT AGAIN DRIVING HOME THE NEXT DAY. NOW, WHENEVER THIS IS WIND, I EXPERIENCE MY VEHICLE "WANDERING." WHEN THIS OCCURS, MY CAR DRIFTS LEFT AND RIGHT MUCH MORE AND THE FRONT END FEELS LIGHTER AND FAR TOO RESPONSIVE. TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM GIVES WARNING THAT IT NEEDS SERVICE, HAVE BEEN TO DEALERSHIP TWICE IN THE PAST TWO DAYS FOR SAME PROBLEM AND NOW MUST GO AGAIN BECAUSE WARNING LIGHT IS BACK ON TO SERVICE TIRE MONITOR SYSTEM. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE SHIELD MODIFICATION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED , POWER WAS REDUCED AND THE WORD ENGINE POWER REDUCED APPEARED ILLUMINATED AS WELL. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. AFTER CHECKING ALL THE WIRING NEAR THE LOCATIONS OF THE CUTS OF THE SHIELD, THE DEALER TESTED OTHER POSSIBILITIES AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THAT CAUSE WAS A BAD POTENTIOMETER ON THE GAS THROTTLE.
FRONT BRAKES VIBRATE AND OVER HEAT WHEN APPLIED AT OVER 35MPH. ALSO WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED SUDDENLY VIBRATION IT FELT. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME BUT AFTER TWO MORE VISIT FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACE. THEN AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM SAME DEALER REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. STILL TO THIS DATE BRAKES FEEL THE SAME AND DEALER OR GM WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT VEHICLE HAS A PROBLEM. IM CONCERN FOR ME AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY AND IM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A SWORD CAUSE IS THE VEHICLE I USE AS A DAILY DRIVER. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO SHIFT DOWN TO FIRST GEAR AND REMAINED IN THIRD GEAR WHICH PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING POSITION. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL IN FIRST GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ERRONEOUSLY SHIFT TO SECOND GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED A COMPUTER MODULE WHICH CORRECTED THE GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEM BUT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEMS PERSISTED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN AUGUST 2014 WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, A SECOND VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. BOTH THE DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SUFFERED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS SAFETY RECALL *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HIS WIFE SAW A NEWS REPORT, WHERE 30 VEHICLES HAD PROBLEMS WITH OIL IN THE BELLYPAN. THERE WAS SUFFICIENT DANGER TO INITIATE A RECALL. WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALER, HE BROUGHT UP THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE DEALER CLAIMED TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT . THE DEALER THEN CHECKED ONLINE AND RECEIVED A DIAGRAM AS TO HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OIL CHANGED REVEALED AND EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL IN THE BELLYPAN. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE, DUE TO THE POORLY DESIGNED JACK.

IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE RECALL FIX FOR THE CHEVROLET CRUZE WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR. THE FIX WAS TO CUT THE ENGINE, OR UNDER THE ENGINE AREA, SKID PLATE EXPOSING THIS AREA. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE CAR, ENGINE, EXHAUST, OIL PAN AND OTHER COMPONENTS THAT ARE NOW EXPOSED. THE IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE DURING THE ACT OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, IT MAY BE EXPOSED TO ROAD CONDITIONS, FOREIGN OBJECTS, OR OTHER MISCELLANEOUS ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THAT WILL AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE AND OVERALL SAFE HANDLING OF THIS VEHICLE. *JS
2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE LT1 RS PACKAGE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON JUNE 27 I WAS IN MURRAY, KY DRIVING HOME FROM MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. AFTER THE LIGHT CHANGED I GAVE THE ACCELERATOR A LIGHT TAP TO MOVE THE CAR FORWARD. IT STARTED SLOWLY BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS, IT SEEMS THAT THE CAR STALLED. THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND WHEN I GAVE THE ACCELERATOR A TAP, NOTHING. AT THIS TIME, I WAS CERTAIN I WOULD BE IN AN ACCIDENT. AGAIN, I GAVE THE ACCELERATOR A TAP (MIND YOU, I DIDN'T MASH THE PETAL TO THE FLOOR BOARD, I GAVE IT ENOUGH OF A TAP TO SWITCH THE GEAR). THE CAR DID NOTHING, AND AGAIN MY CONCERN WAS THAT I WOULD BE REAR ENDED SOON. ANOTHER TIP (AGAIN, I DID NOT MASH THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR), AND FINALLY THE TURBO CHARGER KICKED IN AND THE CAR SWITCHED GEARS. BUT WHEN THE CAR SHIFTED GEARS, IT WAS AN EXPLOSION OF FORCE THAT JERKED AND LURCHED THE CAR FORWARD INCLUDING MY SELF. I WAS GLAD TO GET MOVING SINCE TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. SINCE THIS INCIDENT, IT HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES THAT THE CAR HAS BEEN SLUGGISH TO RESPOND, AND IT HAVE CONTINUED TO SHIFT GEARS WITH RANDOM JERKS AND OFTEN EXPLOSIVE FORCE THAT JERKS BOTH CAR AND PASSENGER. I HAVE HAD THIS TO 2 DEALERSHIPS, AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE IT, AND THEY BOTH TELL ME THAT THIS IS A NORMAL THING, AND THAT THIS TRANSMISSION WILL MAKE ERRATIC GEAR CHANGES. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY WITH I DRIVE THIS CAR, AND HOPE I AM NOT STRANDED IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO SHIFT PROPERLY. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED UPDATES TO THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THE CANISTER INSIDE THE DASHBOARD TO ALLEVIATE THE BURNING SMELL. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE SEAL THAT HELD THE DRIVE AXLE BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND OUT OF NOWHERE MY 2012 CHEVY CRUZE DINGS AND SAYS "ENGINE OVERHEATING A/C TURNED OFF," I WAS VERY SURPRISED BUT KEPT DRIVING AND LITERALLY ONE MINUTE LATER THE CAR DINGS AGAIN. THERE IS A DIFFERENT MESSAGE THAT SAYS "IDLE ENGINE OVERHEATING," AT THIS POINT I AM VERY WORRIED AND I PULL OVER AND CALL THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND EXPLAIN WHAT HAS OCCURRED. I WAS ADVISED TO BRING THE CAR INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. SO, I START THE CAR UP AND BEGIN THE DRIVE OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT IS ABOUT 15 MINUTES AWAY BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC. I GET ABOUT 200 YARDS FROM THE ENTRANCE OF THE DEALERSHIP AND MY ENGINE STARTS SMOKING. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR LESS THAN SEVEN MONTHS AND I BASICALLY ONLY USE IT TO DRIVE TO WORK AND SCHOOL. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES, I GET THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 4,000-5,000 MILES, IN FACT I GOT AN OIL CHANGE LESS THAN A WEEK AGO. *TR
AFTER CAR RAN, THEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF, THEN STARTED UP AGAIN THE POWER BRAKES FAILED FOR APPROXIMATELY 60 SECONDS. IN MY OPINION THE CAR WAS WARM/HOT, THE WEATHER WAS WARM/HOT, AND THE TEMPERATURE AFFECTED THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM WHEN STARTED IN THE HEAT. HAVING THE A/C ON MAY HAVE ROBBED SOME POWER AS WELL. I WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION ON MAY 5, 2012 IN WHICH I COLLIDED INTO THE SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT END OF MY CAR. MY CAR IS BRAND NEW, LESS THAN A MONTH OLD HOWEVER, THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT HOLD AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE CRASH. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 30-35 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. THE COLLISION WAS BAD ENOUGH THAT MY CAR WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE AFTER THE COLLISION. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR WHICH IS A 2012 CHEVROLET CRUZE AND AM NOW AFRAID TO KEEP IT NOT KNOWING WHY THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT DIDN'T WORK. AFTER A WEEK WITHOUT THE CAR, THE SERVICE ADVISOR EXPLAIN THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE AND THE FACTORY WOULD NOT PUSH OUT MORE OF THE BRAKE VACUUM PARTS UNTIL OCTOBER. IN THE MEANTIME, MY CAR WITH 19K IS SITTING UNDER THE HOT TEXAS SUN AT THE DEALER (MOST LIKELY RUINING ITS LEATHER INTERIOR) AND THE DEALER HAS NO OTHER INFORMATION AND THEY "WISH THEY COULD DO MORE." FROM THE BEGINNING I HAD A RECALL FOR THE OIL PAN A WEEK AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS TIMES THE HEATING HAD TO BE WORKED ON AND STILL NOT FIXED. PURCHASED 4/25/2012. AFTER DRIVING A LITTLE, NOTICED LACK OF POWER, EASILY STALLS, SOMETHING ROLLING AROUND IN THE TRUNK LID, CONSOLE PIECE GAPED OUT, PASSENGER SIDE TAIL LAMP INSIDE TRUNK BENT, ENGINE SHUTTERS (AFTER 500 MILES IT STARTED) WHEN TURNED ON AND OFF. THE LACK OF POWER AND ENGINE STALLING ARE THE MAJOR SAFETY CONCERNS. WHEN IN A STOPPED POSITION, THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN THE CLUTCH IS OPERATED CORRECTLY. WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN FROM A STOP SIGN, ONTO ROUTE 30, AT A BLIND INTERSECTION, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, ONCE I LET THE CLUTCH OUT AND WAS IN 1ST GEAR, THE CAR JUST DID NOT MOVE, I HAD THE GAS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS ONLY MOVING INCHES FORWARD. I WAS SCARED, I HAD MY CHILD IN THE CAR WITH ME, A TRACTOR TRAILER COULD HAVE COME UP ON ME 50+ MPH HIT ME OR SWERVED TO MISS ME AND HIT SOMEONE ELSE. THE CAR FINALLY MOVED AFTER ABOUT 45 SEC. I GOT HOME, ABOUT 2 MILES, WAS UPSET AND SCARED, CALLED APPLE CHEVROLET, THE CAR SAT UNTIL I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 35 MINS FROM MY HOME THE NEXT MORNING. I TOLD THEM THAT IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY SO THE CHANCES OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN ARE SLIM. THIS WOULD BE THE 3RD VISIT TO THE SERVICE DEPT FOR THE LACK OF POWER COMPLAINT. I DROVE WITH THE TECH ANYWAY KNOWING THAT IT WAS NOT GOING TO BE DUPLICATED. I TOLD THE SERVICE REP THAT I WANTED A TURBO BOOST GAUGE PUT ON IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SEEM TO BE BOOSTING ALL THE TIME. WHEN I WAS CALLED THAT MY CAR WAS DONE AND NOTHING WAS DUPLICATED, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS BOOSTING IN RANGE. BACK IN JANUARY 2012, I BOUGHT A CHEVY CRUZE 2012 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AFTER TWO MONTH USING THIS VEHICLE, I FOUND OUT IT HAS A PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING UP/DOWN HILL. DRIVING UPHILL, ONCE I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THIS CAR ROLLS BACK AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. DRIVING DOWNHILL, ONCE I PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO REAR AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL THIS CAR GOES DOWN AND THE ENGINE CUT OFF. I WENT TO A CHEVROLET DEALER, THEY TESTED MY CAR AND ANOTHER 2012 CRUZE FROM THEIR INVENTORY AND BOTH CARS DID THE SAME AS I DESCRIBE ABOVE. HOWEVER, THEY TOLD ME THE CAR IS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND AT THIS TIME. THEN, I CONTACTED GM, GM CONTACTED ITS DEALER, AND THREE DAYS LATER GM CALLED ME BACK TELLING ME THE SAME 'NO PROBLEMS FOUND'. SO, I REQUESTED A LETTER WHERE GM TELLS ME THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG AND THEY WILL COVER ANY FUTURE ISSUES WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUT GM TOLD ME THAT THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ME ANY DOCUMENT. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN COMPLAINING OF A STRANGE NOISE, ALMOST LIKE A "POP" WHEN BRAKING. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT IT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STRUTS.
