THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED CHAMPION CHEVROLET (LOCATED AT 800 KIETZKE LN, RENO, NV 89502, 775-636-9328) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART FOR THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) IT BEGAN EXPERIENCING STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND CHANGE GEARS IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN AND THE POWER STEERING SENSOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN BACK ON IN ORDER TO RESET THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING), BUT THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE OF ARRIVAL FOR THE PARTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,053.
DAVID STANELY CHEVROLET OKLAHOMA CITY WAS NOTIFIED IN MAY THAT WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF THE RECALL NOTICES ON THE POWER STEERING AND IGNITION. THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE 6-8 WEEKS TO GET THE PARTS. AS OF THE 4TH OF AUGUST THEY HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO FIX THESE RECALLS AND WE ARE NOW BEING TOLD WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR PARTS ON SEP 18TH. IS THIS HOW GM IS HANDLING ALL THESE RECALLS? *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH,I HAD A WARNING LIGHT AND THE DISPLAY READ SVC ESC. SHORTLY AFTER, THE POWER STEERING DISPLAY CAME ON IN THE VEHICLE. I THEN IMMEDIATELY LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. IT TOOK GREAT FORCE TO STEER THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE HIGHWAY TO A SAFE LOCATION. I THEN USED THE ONSTAR SERVICE, THEY RAN A QUICK DIAGNOSTIC - RESULT CAME BACK THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM - THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM HAD LOST ELECTRICAL CONNECTION OR HAD FAILED COMPLETELY - THEY WERE UNABLE TO LET ME KNOW WITHOUT HAVING IT DIAGNOSED FURTHER AT A LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND THAT MY ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO EXPLAINED THAT OTHER MODELS OF THE HHR WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE THAT I EXPERIENCED, HOWEVER MY MODEL WAS CONSIDERED "SAFE". *TR

THE APPROXIMATE SPEED AT THE TIME OF FAILURE WAS 40 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE NOT AT FAULT, AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000.

MY VEHICLE IS ON GMS RECALL LIST BECAUSE OF AN IGNITION PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SMALL HILL ON FRIDAY MAY 2, 2014, WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF. I HAD NOTHING ON MY IGNITION KEY RING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND HAD JUST MY KEY IN THE IGNITION WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I CALLED GM AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED THEY OFFERED TO GIVE ME A RENTAL CAR THAT THEY WILL PAY FOR UNTIL MY CAR IS FIXED . MY CONCERN IS THAT THESE CARS SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE THEY ARE A SAFETY HAZARD TO NOT ONLY THE PERSON DRIVING THESE CARS BUT ALSO TO THE PEOPLE ON THE ROAD WITH THEM, I KNOW GM IS DOING ALL THAT IT CAN TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND WONDER WHY THEY ARE BEING ALLOWED TO BE DRIVEN ON THE ROADS WHEN THEY ARE UNSAFE. I WAS DRIVING MY HHR ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR. THE DASH DISPLAY SAID CHECK AIRBAG AND THE RED AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. IT STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES. THE NEXT MORNING AFTER I STARTED THE HHR , THE AIRBAG DISPLAY AND THE RED INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE SAFETY CONCERN AND PARTS DELAY TO NO AVAIL. THERE WERE NO FAILURES.

AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE OFF RAMP OF THE FREEWAY THE FRONT OF MY CAR STARTED TO SHAKE AND RATTLE. A COUPLE MINUTES LATER AFTER TURNING A CORNER, ONLY GOING 30MI/HR, THE CARS POWER STEERING THEN TURNED OFF. EVERY TIME I TURN MY CAR ON AND TAKE A TRIP THE POWER STEERING GOES OFF AT LEAST TWICE. WHICH IS ABOUT 5-6 TIMES A DAY. *JS

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
THE POWER STEERING KEEPS SHUTTING OFF? I WILL BE DRIVING WHEN I WILL HEAR THIS BRIEF CHIMING SOUND AND MY ODOMETER READOUT ON THE DASHBOARD IS REPLACED WITH A FLASHING "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE IS A BEAR TO STEER? IT ALMOST TAKES A MUSCLE MAN TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT THIS POINT. IT USED TO OCCUR ONLY ONCE IN A WHILE. NOW THE POWER STEERING IS CONSTANTLY OUT. I'M TAKING THIS CAR IN TO THE DEALER NOW... THE SERVICE REP STATED THAT IF MY ISSUE IS A "POWER STEERING MOTOR" REPLACEMENT THAT IT WILL COST ME $325.00 INCLUDING PARTS. HOWEVER IF THE COMPLETE "STEERING COLUMN" NEEDS REPLACEMENT, THE GUY LAUGHED AND STATED THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER TAKING A SECOND OUT ON MY HOME, THAT THIS WOULD BE PRICEY. AND THAT IF BOTH PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED...? WELL... LET'S NOT GO THERE HE SAID... JUST BRING IT IN AND WE'LL RUN A SERIES OF COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS ON IT. OH BOY... MY FIRST CHEVROLET... *TR

OUR 2010 HHR'S POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MY WIFE WAS IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT THE STRENGTH NEEDED TO STEER THE CAR WAS GREATER THEN SHE FEELS SHE COULD SAFELY OPERATE THE VEHICLE. IF YOU RESTART THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK AGAIN. SINCE THAT TIME THE POWER STEERING WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT AT LEAST EVERY OTHER DAY WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY OR IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. *TT
ON 03/30/2014 THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WENT ON MY HHR PANEL AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AT THAT TIME I COULD POWER OFF THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING WOULD WORK FOR ONE TO TWO DAYS. WITHIN A WEEK OF THIS, THE POWER STEERING WOULD GO OUT EACH TIME THE CAR WAS STARTED AND DRIVEN WITHIN 5 MINUTES OR LESS. IT OCCURS IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT 5 MPH TO 65 MPH AND IF THE CAR IS COLD OR HOT. THIS IS BECOMING MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT REQUIRES EXTRA STRENGTH TO MANEUVER THE CAR SINCE NO POWER STEERING IS AVAILABLE. AT THIS TIME CHEVROLET HAS ANNOUNCED A RECALL ON 03/31 FOR THE 2010 HHR BUT NOTHING HAS SHOWN UP WHEN I PUT MY VIN NUMBER ON THEIR WEBSITE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT NOT HAVING POWER STEERING BUT WE NEED THE CAR FOR TRANSPORTATION. TODAY IS JUNE 5 AND THIS ISSUE OCCURS EVERY DAY AND NO RECALL NOTICE HAS HAPPENED WITH MY VIN. THE MILEAGE WAS ADJUSTED FROM THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINT. *TR
I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN MY 2010 CHEVY HHR'S REAR PASSENGER DOOR. THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. ALL OTHER DOORS ARE OPENING OK. THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. NOT BEING TO EXIT A VEHICLE UNDER EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ALTHOUGH GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE GM DEALER I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO TOLD ME IT WAS MY PROBLEM, NOT GM'S. I HAVE FACED MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE; KEY STUCK IN IGNITION, POWER STEERING FAIL WHILE DRIVING, MULTIPLE SETS OF BRAKES BURNT OUT, INSIDE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE BREAKING OFF AND NOW THIS NEW ISSUE WITH THE DOOR. THE NHTSA REALLY NEEDS TO URGENTLY ADDRESS THE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HOLD GM RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR POOR ENGINEERING AND QUALITY CONTROL, BEFORE SOMEONE ELSE LOSES THEIR LIFE. *TR
I OWN A 2010 CHEVROLET HHR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH IN THE FAST LANE ON I-75N. THE POWER STEERING SENSOR LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED MAKING THE STEERING WHEEL STIFF AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE. I WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO SAFELY ACROSS 3 LANES TO OFF RAMP, LUCKILY IMMEDIATELY TO THE RIGHT WAS ABLE TO GLIDE INTO A PARKING LOT. PARKED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IGNITION OFF, CHECKED ALL FLUIDS UNDER HOOD, READ MANUAL AND ADVISED TO TAKE KEYS OUT AND RESTART. SO I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL, THE WARNING SIGNAL WAS GONE AND WHEEL WAS MOVING. I REPORTED THIS TO GM IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY DO NOT SEEM TO BE ACTING AS IF THIS IS URGENT. THEY HAVE STALLED 2 DAYS NOW WITHOUT DIAGNOSING, THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER VEHICLE AND THEREFORE I HAVE NO CHOICE THEN TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, KNOWING THE SEVERE THREAT IT HAS TO MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. THIS CAR IS A DEATH TRAP. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. I TAKE IT IN FOR AN ISSUE ATLEAST EVERY OTHER MONTH. ALSO SINCE STEERING ISSUE HAVE HAD THE "AIR BAG SERVICE" LIGHT HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES. WILL HAVE DEALERSHIP CHECK THIS MALFUNCTION OUT TOO. POWER ISSUES: THE POWER WOULD ACT SO CRAZY THAT WE NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WAS GOING TO SHUT OFF. EXP. THIS PAST WINTER, THE BLOWER MOTOR WOULD BLOW COLD AIR, WHILE IT WAS FREEZING OUTSIDE! OR IT WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL, THEN, THE BLOWER HEATER WOULD COME ON, JUST BY TURNING THE IGNITION ON. . AND IT WOULD BLOW HOT AIR. AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF, UNLESS THE KEY WAS OUT OF THE IGNITION. SOMETHING ELECTRICAL MUST OF BEEN GOING ON. THERE WAS ALSO, POWER STEERING CONCERNS. 2. WE TOOK IT IN TO SERRA CHEVROLET IN SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACE. WE WERE GIVEN A RENTAL, AND IT TOOK OVER THREE WEEKS FOR THE PART TO ARRIVE. WE WERE HOPING THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WOULD GO AWAY, ONCE REPLACED. 3. ON JUNE 4TH, 2014-THE PARTS CAME IN.. 4. ON THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH, 2014, THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, JUNE 6TH, 2014, THE BLOWER MOTOR WENT CRAZY AGAIN, AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. ( WITH ALL OF THE ISSUES WITH THE CAR, THE AIRBAG LIGHT NEVER CAME ON UNTIL THE NEW IGNITION SWITCH WAS INSTALLED. 5. PLEASE INCLUDE REPAIRING THIS ISSUE IN THE RECALL OF 2010 HHR VEHICLES. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT OF MULTIPLE INCIDENTS WHERE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) ACTIVATES WHILE TRAVELING STRAIGHT ON DRY PAVEMENT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 15 AND 30 MPH. AS A CHIME SOUNDS, AND A MESSAGE IS FLASHED ON THE DISPLAY, THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY LOSES STEERING AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHILE BRAKE IS INVOLUNTARILY ACTIVATED. ON THIS OCCASION, THE SERVICER FOUND THE FEMALE CONNECTORS TO THE ABS SPEED SENSOR WERE NOT MAKING PROPER CONTACT. HE CRIMPED THE NEW ONES TIGHTLY WHEN INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENT ENDS. THE SERVICE ADVISOR ADMITTED THAT MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS ISSUE, HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM REPEATEDLY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING, THE CAR CONTINUES NORMALLY. FORTUNATELY, THIS HAS NOT YET CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALER HAS VARIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO MISMATCHED TIRES (REPLACED WITH ALL NEW), BAD HUBS (BOTH REPLACED), BAD SPEED SENSORS (REPLACED), BAD ALIGNMENT (FIXED) AND A WRONGLY CALIBRATED STEERING POSITION SENSOR (RE-CALIBRATED). THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOWED, REPAIRED REPEATEDLY, AND THE PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN. *JS
