225/60 R16 tire size valve leak and pushed in slow tire leak
SIDEWALL FAILURE: FIRESTONE PRECISION TOURING, P225-60R16 M+S. DOT:8XX0 R3D. THE TIRE WAS SITTING IN DRIVEWAY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I NOTICED THE TIRE PRESSURE WENT DOWN TO ABOUT 10 POUNDS. I FILLED THE TIRE BACK UP TO 36 POUNDS. TWO DAYS LATER THE TIRE WAS AGAIN DOWN TO ABOUT 15 POUNDS. I REFILLED THE TIRE, WENT TO HAVE THE TREAD CHECKED FOR A PUNCTURE. NOTHING FOUND. THE NEXT MORNING THE TIRE WAS FLAT. ON REFILLING THE TIRE, I FELT AND HEARD AIR ESCAPING FROM THE TIRE. I FELT AROUND AND FOUND ABOUT A 3/4 TO 1 INCH SPLIT IN THE SIDEWALL. THERE WAS NO [HYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE TIRE, IT WAS THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. I AM THANKFUL THIS HAPPENED NOW, AS WE WERE PLANNING TO TAKE A TRIP TO ALASKA THROUGH CANADA IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA.
2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL AND HIT THE MEDIAN WALL. *KB AN EXAMINATION OF THE TIRE SHOWED TWO HOLES APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER ON THE SIDEWALL. OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT. *JB
WE BOUGHT THIS 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA IN APRIL OF 2002. FORTUNATELY, WE PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. WE HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. INITIALLY, THE WARRANTY COVERED THE MALFUNCTIONS: WHEEL SENSORS, MODULES, BRAKE PUMP, WIRING, ETC. WERE REPLACED. SHORTLY AFTER EACH REPAIR, THE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN. WHEN THE WARRANTY EXPIRED WE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, REPLACING PART AFTER PART. TO DATE, OVER $3.5K HAS BEEN SPENT TO ATTEMPT TO FIX THIS POORLY DESIGNED AND INSTALLED SYSTEM. IT HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR MORE YEARS, THAN IT HAS FUNCTIONED. IT HAS BEEN OUT FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS, BECAUSE WE CAN NOT PUT GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD. I RECENTLY CONTACTED GM CORPORATE WITH MY COMPLAINT AND THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT IN FOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS. SAME RESULT: BRAKE PUMP AND MODULE OUT, WITH POSSIBLE WIRING PROBLEMS AND WHEEL SENSORS. ESTIMATE TO TRY TO FIX: $2.5K. NO GUARANTEE IT WILL WORK. THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURS WITH NO WARNING: SOMETIMES UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, WHILE DRIVING OR TURNING. I INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEMS, NOT BEING ABLE TO GET THEM FIXED PROPERLY. IT OCCURS IN IMPALAS AND MONTE CARLOS OF SIMILAR YEARS, 2002-2008. HOW CAN GM JUSTIFY SPENDING $6K TO MAINTAIN A SINGLE SYSTEM WHICH WORKS DIRECTLY WITH THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM? PURCHASED 2, GOODYEAR EAGLE LS, P225/60R-16 TIRES TO REPLACE ORIGINAL GOODYEAR GT'S AT 27,000 MILES ON A 2002 IMPALA. AFTER DRIVING ON THE LS FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH THE THUMPING AND BOOM, BOOM, BOOM NOISES AND FEEL OF THE RIDE...., I TOOK THEM TO THE TIRE DEALER WHO SAID HE WOULD PUT THEM ON THE MACHINE THAT TESTS FOR DEFECTS. BOTH TIRES FAILED THE TEST. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS VERY UNUSUAL TO HAVE BOTH TIRES FAIL. THEY REPLACED THEM AT NO COST WITH IDENTICAL TIRES. THE REPLACEMENTS UNFORTUNATELY ACTED THE SAME WAY. I DID NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THE TESTING AGAIN, SO I JUST PAID TO HAVE 2 NEW MICHELIN HYDROEDGE'S INSTALLED. OF COURSE I COULD NOT ADD 2 NEW TIRES TO THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WITH ANOTHER BRAND OF TIRE, SO I HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER 2 MICHELINS AT AN ADDITIONAL COST OF $251. WITH THE NEW MICHELINS INSTALLED, THE RIDE AND HANDLING WAS BEAUTIFUL. SOMETHING IS DREADFULLY WRONG WITH THE GOODYEAR EAGLE LS'S. *JB
YEAR 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA UNEVEN REAR TIRE TREAD WEAR. TOOK VEHICLE TO A WALMART SERVICE CENTER FOR TIRE ROTATION AND WAS REFUSED SERVICE, AND TOLD TO TRY TO CONTACT DEALERSHIP IN REGARD TO A POSSIBLE PROBLEM W/ VEHICLE CAUSING THIS. VEHICLE IS 14,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. I WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE 2 NEW REAR TIRES & HAVE CAR INSPECTED & PROBLEM DIAGNOSED. THIS IS A DANGER TO DRIVE WHILE TREAD IS BAD AND MAY POSSIBLY BE A MAJOR DEFECT OF THIS VEHICLE.*AK
