LAST MARCH, 2008 POWER STEERING WENT OUT OF CAR, SO TOOK TO MECHANIC. AFTER PAYING OVER $400 TO REPAIR HOSE AND POWER STEERING PUMP ON CAR THAT HAD ONLY 30,000 MILES. NOW IN FEBRUARY OF 2009, LESS THAN ONE YEAR LATER, I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING GOING OUT AGAIN. I SEE THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME THING. I THINK GM SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AND LAUNCH A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT SERIOUSLY OR WORSE KILLED. *TR
I PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE CAR'S POWER STEERING WAS LIMITED. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST BECAUSE IT WAS A VERY COLD MORNING, AND IT STARTED WORKING PROPERLY. I CHECKED THE FLUID WHEN I STOPPED AND IT SEEMED FINE. A WEEK LATER, I PULL OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND THE SAME THING! MY HUSBAND CHECKED THE FLUID AND IT WAS LOW. WHEN I RETURNED HOME, NOT ONLY WAS THERE A BUNCH OF FLUID ON THE DRIVEWAY, BUT YOU COULD SEE HOW I PULLED OUT AND THE STREAM OF FLUID OF WHERE I WENT. THANK GOODNESS, I LEARNED TO DRIVE ON A JEEP THAT HAD NO POWER STEERING!!! IF IT HAD BEEN ONE OF MY TEENAGERS, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND CHEVROLET NEEDS TO STEP UP AND PLACE A RECALL ON THESE HOSES!!! *TR
I HAVE ONLY HAD MY CAR FOR 9 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD TROUBLE FROM THE BEGINNING, THE HEATER WILL NOT HEAT UP AND WHEN IT DOES IT GOES COLD UNLESS YOU ARE PRESSING THE GAS AND WILL NOT DEFROST AND IT KEEPS LOSING FLUID SO THEY REPLACE THE RADIATOR CAP.IT HAS A BAD SHIMMY AND A POPPING IN THE STEERING WHEEL IT HAS LESS THEN 45,000 I REALLY THINK THEY NEED TO CHECK IN ON ALL THE PROBLEMS PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE 2006 IMPALA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS FOR FAILURES WITH THE HEATER BLOWING COOL AIR, THE GEAR SHIFT CHANGING INCORRECTLY, AND THE TIRE MONITOR INDICATOR CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATING. ON JANUARY 30, 2008, THE CONTACT DROVE APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES. SHE THEN PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED SMOKE UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, FOLLOWED BY FLAMES. SHE QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING HOSE FAILED AND CAUSED THE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,000.
ON FRIDAY, JAN. 23, 2009 I EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF STEERING ON MY 2006 IMPALA LTZ MILEAGE 45,500. WHILE DRIVING ON A DUAL LANE HWY. WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ALLOWED I TRIED TO TURN LEFT, STEERING VERY STIFF I PULLED OVER, RAISED HOOD SAW SMOKE, CALLED DEALER WAS TOLD COULD NOT GET REPAIRS UNTIL MONDAY. I CALLED TOW TRUCK AS IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I ASKED ABOUT A LOANER CAR, NONE AVAILABLE, EXTENDED WARRANTY PAID ALL BUT DEDUCTIBLE. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON MONDAY SEEMED OKAY, AFTER LEAVING WORK PLACE TUESDAY AFTERNOON, LOST MY STEERING AGAIN WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK TO DEALER ABOUT FIVE MILES, WAS TOLD THE HOSE HADN'T SEATED PROPERLY TOOK AN HOUR FOR REPAIRS THIS TIME. TODAY STIFFNESS RETURNING. WILL LOOK FOR ANOTHER CAR SOON, LOST CONFIDENCE IN GMC PRODUCTS. PLEASE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT. *TR
WITHOUT WARNING, THE POWER STEERING "WENT OUT" ON MY CAR AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I SENSED THE STIFFNESS IN THE STEERING, WAS ON A VERY STRAIGHT ROAD, AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR AND BRING IT TO A STOP. HAD I BEEN ON A ROAD WITH CURVES, I WOULD MOST CERTAINLY HAVE HAD A BAD ACCIDENT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, AND WHEN I PICKED IT UP I NOTED THIS ON THE DESCRIPTION: "CUSTOMER STATES CAR HAS NO POWER STEERING. CAUSE: IMPROPERLY SEALED. " FURTHER: "DIAGNOSE AND REPLACE SPLIT POWER STEERING COOLER PIPE HOSE AND PER BULLETIN 060232014." I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS A REFERENCE THAT IS STRICTLY "HOW TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM" OR IF THIS INDICATES THAT THIS IS A NOTED PROBLEM. IF SO, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL! MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN VERY CONSERVATIVELY. IF THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH ANY FREQUENCY, THEN IT IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT REQUIRES A RECALL. WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT COMPLETELY AND WITHOUT WARNING, AND YOU'RE ON THE EXPRESSWAY OR A ROAD WITH CURVES, A SERIOUS TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IS BOUND TO OCCUR. *TR
FIRST THE WHEEL HAD A SHIMMY IN IT. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND NEW BRAKES. THAT WASN'T IT . IT WAS THE FRONT BALL JOINT. 2. CAR WOULDN'T HEAT UP. RADIATOR CAP REPLACED AT DEALER FOR 45 DOLLARS. REAR DEFOGGER QUIT WORKING. 4. POWER STEERING OUT NOW AND IT FEELS LIKE THE RACK AND PINION GOING TO FAIL. CAR NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY NOW WITH 64K. I AM TIRED OF THIS LEMON. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHTS COMES ON AND STAYS THEN IT GOES OUT THEN BACK ON AND NOW TELLING ME TIGHTING GAS CAP BUT TIGHT AND NOW EEPLACE IT STILL STAYS TIGHTING TIRED OF THIS THINK SHOULD BE RECALLED
I HAVE A 2006 IMPALA WITH MULTIPLE PROBLEMS. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE HEATER OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT PRODUCE HEAT UNLESS YOU ARE REVVING ENGINE. PROBLEM IS THAT THE COOLING SYSTEM IS DESIGNED DEFECTIVELY SUCH THAT IT IS PRONE TO AIR POCKETS. IF AIR POCKET DEVELOPS, CHEVY HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN DETAILING A COMPLICATED PROCEDURE WHEREBY THE SYSTEM HAS TO BE DRAINED AND ANTIFREEZE THEN PUT BACK IN SYSTEM. IF A MECHANIC IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS SERVICE BULLETIN, HE MAY TELL YOU ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH HEAD GASKET, INCORRECT ANTIFREEZE MIXTURE, ETC. THIS PROBLEM MAY REOCCUR EVERYTIME THE CLOSED SYSTEM IS OPENED IF NOT THEN CLOSED AS PER THE SERVICE BULLETIN INSTRUCTIONS. *TR
I OWN A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS WITH 45,500 MILES ON IT. IN DECEMBER 2008, I EXPERIENCED WOBBLING IN MY FRONT LEFT TIRE. THE OUTER TIE ROD WAS BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE SEVERELY AND UNEVENLY WORN, REQUIRING A NEW SET OF TIRES DUE TO BAD ALIGNMENT, AND NOW I AM HEARING AND FEELING VIBRATIONS AND CLUNKING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. A GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED DOZENS OF SIMILAR AND RECURRENT STEERING COLUMN AND ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS WITH BOTH THE 2006 AND 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. IT COMES BACK. I DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT GM DOES NOT REGARD THIS AS BEING COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OUTSIDE OF 36,000, ANYWAY. SEVERAL HAVE COMPLAINED OF STEERING FAILURES AND LOCK-UPS WHICH RESULTED IN BOTH INJURIES AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND OTHER VEHICLES. THIS IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM THAT CAN HAVE FATAL RESULTS IF NOT CORRECTED. CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD INCUR AN OUT-OF-POCKET COST EXCEEDING $1,000. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL, IF NOT FOR ME, THEN FOR THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEGUN TO OCCUR AND SPARE THEM INJURY AND/OR DEATH. *TR
I AM WRITING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE 4T65E-HD TRANSMISSION IN GENERAL MOTOR'S LINEUP OF V8 POWERED W-BODY PLATFORM CARS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY ISSUES OF THIS TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND HESITATING ON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE FOR ABOUT 30K MILES NOW. THE CAR IS NOT BEATEN, OR DRIVEN HARD AT ALL. ALL MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN DONE. I FIRST TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SLIPPING TRANSMISSION, AND EVEN THOUGH THE TECH FELT THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE, I WAS TOLD THAT UNLESS THE TRANSMISSION IS THROWING A CODE, THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I HAVE PUT ABOUT $500 INTO WORK ON THIS TRANSMISSION SO FAR WITH MINIMUM SUCCESS. I HAVE FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION TOTALLY, WHICH SEEMED TO HAVE FIXED THE TRANSMISSION FOR ABOUT A WEEK. ANOTHER THING THAT I ATTEMPTED PER THE RECOMMENDATION OF A GM MASTER TECH WAS TO CHANGE THE VALVE BODY. WHICH I DID AND IT CORRECTED THE ISSUE FOR 3 DAYS. NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT A CONSTANT SPEED/RPM.. ALMOST LIKE IT FEELS THE MOTOR IS MISFIRING. I HAVE CHECKED THE FLUID LEVEL, AND THE FLUID. THE LEVEL IS FINE AND THE FLUID IS NOT BURNT. I FEEL THAT GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RECTIFY THE PROBLEM OF THESE GARBAGE TRANSMISSIONS. I HAVE OWNED 2 OTHER CARS WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION (95 MONTE CARLO Z34 AND A 01 PONTIAC GTP). BOTH VEHICLES EXPERIENCED THESE SAME ISSUES AND THE TRANSMISSIONS BLEW UP. WHY WOULD GM CONTINUE TO USE SUCH A WEAK MAJOR COMPONENT. I KNOW OF 100+ OTHER V8 W-BODY OWNERS EXPERIENCING THESE SAME ISSUES. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 IMPALA SS. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 12K MILES, IN EARLY 2009 AT 62K THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, STRANDING MY FAMILY ON THE PA TURNPIKE. IN JANUARY 2011 AT 101K WE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN. LUCKILY WE PURCHASED A GM POWER-TRAIN TRANSMISSION AND IT CAME WITH A 3YR WARRANTY. THE FAILURE SYMPTOMS WERE IDENTICAL FOR EACH OCCURRENCE. 1ST THE TRANSMISSION WOULD OCCASIONALLY SHUDDER WHILE SHIFTING. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD SHUDDER AND PREDICTABLY SLIP WHEN MAINTAINING A SPEED AT OR NEAR 1800 RPM. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE DRIVING UP HILLS. FINALLY THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHILE THE ENGINE RPM SPIKED WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE ENTIRE FAILURE PERIOD WAS AROUND 1000 MILES FROM THE 1ST SIGN THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY TO SHIFTING TO THE FINAL FAILURE. THE TRANSMISSION APPEARS TO REACH VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES AND HAS A LONG COOL OFF PERIOD. WHEN REPLACING THE POWER STEERING GEAR I NOTICED THAT THE EXHAUST AND ENGINE WERE COOL TO THE TOUCH, BUT THE TRANSMISSION REMAINED WARM THROUGH OUT THE REPAIR. THANK FOR YOUR ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER. *TR
THE RIGHT AND LEFT REAR DOORS ARE INOPERABLE. I OPENED THE DOOR AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR IT WOULD NOT SHUT. THE JAM WAS UNHOOKED AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN IT WOULD NOT OPEN. THIS HAPPENED WITH BOTH SIDES OF THE DOOR. IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR THE BACKSEAT PASSENGERS WOULD BE UNABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE PUBLICWAY, POWER STEERING CEASE TO OPERATE, STEERING BECAME ALMOST NIL. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS HAPPEN, THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING, STEERING JUST WENT OUT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO HAVE POWER STEERING HOSE REPLACED. *TR
I PURCHASED THE 2006 IMPALA IN 11/2006 WHEN STOPPING THE STEERING AND FRONT END SHAKES AND VIBRATES. 1ST THE KEYLESS REMOTES STOP WORKING WHICH INCLUDED MY AUTOMATIC START NOT WORKING THAT HAPPENED 12/7. I AM A TROOPER SO I WAITED TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVY DEALER 4/08 AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SYSTEM SO THEY FIXED THAT AND MY TIRE MONITORING SYSTEM(WHICH WENT OUT AGAIN ON 12/1/08). MY SEATBELTS WONT LOCK IN YOU HAVE TO FORCE IT HARD SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN STILL COMES OUT ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE. MY REAR LEFT DOOR STOP WRKG 6/08 1ST THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE NOW IT DOES NOT OPEN AT ALL. ON 12/21/08 THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY. ALSO THE HEAT STOP WORKING AND THE REAR DEFROST 12/16/08 AND IT IS FREEZING IN CHICAGO. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND OF COURSE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED SO I WAS STUCK PAYING THE $300 BILL FOR THE POWER STEERING. MY HUSBAND REFUSED TO PAY THE 400.00 FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND THERMOSTAT GASKET. WELL TWO DAYS LATER CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP BECAUSE NOW 1/3/09 THE WATER PUMP IS LEAKING WAITING ON A CALLBACK NOW FROM THE AUTHORIZED MECHANIC WITH THE FINAL REPORT ON WHAT ALL IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR THAT JUST CAME FROM THE OTHER AUTHORIZED SHOP ON 12/21. MIND U THE CAR WAS ONLY DRIVEN LIKE 4 MILES B4 THE OTHER PROBLEMS STARTED HAPPENING. I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS CAR. I WILL SEND IN MORE INFORMATION WHEN I GET THE FINAL VERDICT ON THE DEATH TRAP FROM THE AUTHORIZED MECHANIC WHEN HE CALLS ME BACK TODAY 1/3/08. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL SYSTEM ADHESIVE LAYER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. UPDATED 12/07/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRIP COMPUTER, TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL WERE ALL INOPERATIVE. ALSO ALL OF THE LIGHTS FLASH AT TIMES AND STAY ON. UPDATED 12/09/09
PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY STEERING WAS HARD PULLED BACK IN AND NOTICED FLUID ON THE PAVEMENT WHICH ENDED UP BEING POWER STEERING FLUID. INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM THE RETURN HOSE FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP. TOOK TO LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND IT WAS FIXED. AFTER I HAD MY CAR BACK FOR 6 DAYS THE SAME HOSE BLEW A HOLE IN IT IN A DIFFERENT SPOT. TOOK TO THE DEALER TWO DAYS AGO AND THEY REPLACED IT AGAIN PICKING UP TOMORROW. I CONSTANTLY HEAR ABOUT OTHER HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ON CHEVY'S MAINLY IMPALAS' AND IT SEEMS TO BE PRIMARILY THE 2006 MODEL. THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS. I'VE CALLED GM AND THEY ARE NO HELP AT ALL AND SEEM TO JUST IGNORE THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *TR
DURING MARCH 2008 THE POWER STEERING PUMP KEPT BREAKING ON THE 2006 IMPALA, WE HAD TO TAKE IT IN 5 TIMES DURING MARCH THROUGH APRIL TO REPAIR IT, AND NOW DECEMBER 5TH 2008, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, IT COULD OF BEEN DANGEROUS IF THE POWER STEERING FAULTED DURING DRIVING, AND A CRASH COULD OF BEEN CAUSED BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUN VISOR WOULD NOT REMAIN IN THE UPWARD POSITION AND WOULD CONTINUOUSLY FALL INTO THE DRIVER'S VIEW OF THE ROADWAY. THE SUN VISOR WOULD HANG EXTREMELY LOW. THE CONTACT STATED THE BEEN FAILURE PRESENTED ITSELF SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SUN VISOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD FIRST NEED TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NEITHER REPLACED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I HAVE A 2006 SS IMPALA I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT ON GOING PROBLEMS. 1ST WATERPUMP WENT OUT THEN 2ND DRIVER TIE ROD WAS REPLACED 3RD POWERSTEERING HOSE REPLACED 4TH BATTERY WENT DEAD 5TH POWER STEERING HOSE OUT AGAIN AND TIE ROD ON PASSENGER NEEDS REPLACED ALSO. WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING BUT IN A STOPPED POSITION, IE., AT A STOP LIGHT, THE HEATER BLOWS COLD AIR - ON ANY OF THE DIAL OPTIONS, I.E, FEET, FACE, COMBINATION, ETC. WHEN DRIVING, IT THEN HEATS, BLOWS WARM AIR. WHEN I HAD MY CAR INTO THE DEALER LAST YEAR (MAHOWALDS MOTORS IN NEW PRAGUE WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR) FOR THE NORMAL SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE, THEY WERE TOLD ABOUT THIS. THE SERVICE MANAGER PULLED UP A BULLETIN FROM MARCH OF 2008 AND IT STATED THAT THIS MAKE/MODEL CAR WOULD HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IT TOLD THE DEALERSHIP HOW TO FIX IT (NO PARTS INVOLVED - JUST TAKING OFF SOME HOSES AS THERE WAS AIR BUBBLES OR BLOCKAGE THAT WAS CAUSING THIS - AND THEY WANTED SOME WHERE AROUND $186.00 TO DO THIS.). I ASKED WHY THIS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DONE WHEN THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS, THAT THIS MAKE OF CAR WAS GOING TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND I WAS TOLD THAT AS LONG AS WE DIDN'T BRING IT UP, THEY WERE NOT FIXING IT AS IT WAS NOT A "RECALL", JUST A BULLETIN LETTING THEM KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PROCESS WHEN A DEALERSHIP OR A HUGE COMPANY LIKE CHEVROLET KNOWS THERE IS A FLAW BUT SITS BACK AND KEEPS THEIR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT IT AND THEN WHEN CONFRONTED THE CUSTOMER IS TOLD IT WILL TAKE $186.00 TO FIX. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BECAUSE THERE WERE NO 'PARTS' INVOLVED IN THIS REPAIR, THAT THIS WAS THE REASON IT COST THIS MUCH.....IT ALMOST MAKES IT SOUND LIKE, IF THERE DO NOT HAVE ANY PARTS COST TO FALL BACK ON, THEN THEY BOOST UP THE LABOR CHARGES. BOTTOM LINE IS, THE BULLETIN CAME OUT IN MARCH OF 2008, AND MY CAR WAS IN EVERY 3000 MILES FOR THE OIL CHANGE, THIS 'ERROR' REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND NOT 'HIDDEN' IN THE BACKROOM. 2006 CHEVY IMPALA CAUGHT ON FIRE, AND WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I CALLED GM TO NOTIFIY THEM, BUT THEY MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR IT TO BE INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 50 MILES AN HOUR ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL FROZE. I COULD NOT MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND STARTED TO VEER INTO THE NEXT LANE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO ONE IN THE RIGHT LANE NEXT TO ME. NO INJURIES OR ACCIDENTS OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD AND HAD APPROX. 26,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND THE POWER STEERING MECHANISM WAS REPLACED WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED SYSTEM. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS THE 6TH REPLACEMENT OF SUCH A DEVICE FOR THE IMPALA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS AT ANY SPEED, THE BRAKE SYSTEM INTERMITTENTLY PULSATED, AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ABNORMALLY VIBRATE. SECONDLY, WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE FAILURE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE DEALER STATED THAT IF THE BRAKE PADS ARE EXPOSED TO MOISTURE, THEY COULD FAIL. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS IF THE WEAR WAS LESS THAN 3MM, AND REPAIR OR RESURFACE THE BRAKE ROTORS. THE BRAKE PADS WERE MEASURED AT 5MM. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT ALTHOUGH HER VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING SEVERE SYMPTOMS, THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT DISPLAYED THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENT FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,269 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,412.
MOANING NOISE WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS, AND LOUD SHRIEKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING. THOUGHT IT WAS POWER STEERING PUMP &/OR ALTERNATOR. I LOOK UNDER HOOD AND GROUND PS FLUID ON GROUND, PS FLUID WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE BELLOWS BOOT ON THE RACK AND PINION. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE SPOOL SEAL AND THE INPUT SEAL WERE LEAKING IN THE RACK AND PINION. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET THE RACK REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. BUT 1 MONTH LATER, THE NEW RACK DEVELOPED A LEAK FROM THE SAME INPUT SEAL THAT WAS BAD ON THE OE RACK. DEALER REPLACED IT AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS IN JULY OF 2007. IN MAY OF 2008, THE FRONT ROTORS FAILED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WILL NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONSIDER GIVING HIM A DISCOUNT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON MY 2006 IMPALA 4 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I AM CURRENTLY ON THE 5TH SET OF TIRES AFTER ONLY 105,000 MILES. I THINK THE ROTORS ARE MADE FROM SOFT METAL AND IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT. I WOULD TAKE THAT TO THE BANK. ON MANY LATE MODEL CHEVROLET AND GM CARS, THERE IS A CLUNKING ISSUE ON THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS. I HAVE TAKEN MINE TO THE DEALER AND AT THAT TIME THE FIX WAS TO REPACK THE SHAFT WITH GREASE OR PUT A NEW ONE ON. THIS FI IS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. GM AND CHEVROLET ARE VERY EXPERIENCED WITH THIS ISSUE AS DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH WILL BRING UP MANY ARTICLES. THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO REDESIGN OF THIS COMPONENT. THIS COMPONENT IS NOT EVEN A SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ITEM. THE FACT THAT THERE ARE DESIGN ITERATIONS BUT STILL NO RECALL IS LUDICROUS. IF MY OWNERS MANUAL SAID GREASE THE STEERING SHAFT EVERY 10000 MILES, I CAN UNDERSTAND NO RECALL. BUT CHEVY HAS NEVER STATED IT TO BE A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND THE FACT THERE ARE REDESIGNS SAYS THERE IS AND ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AFTER. *TR
