THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY BOTH THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY BOTH CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR AXLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

EXCESSIVE WEAR ON INSIDE EDGES OF REAR TIRES I'M JUST FORTUNATE I CAUGHT THE WEAR EARLY . SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER FOR A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT BOTH REAR SPINDLE RODS NEEDED REPLACING TO THE TUNE OF $700.00. THE SERVICE DEPT. TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT GET ENOUGH ADJUSTMENT IN THE CURRENT SPINDLE RODS TO BRING THE ALIGNMENT INTO SPEC. AND THERE IS AN UPDATED PART TO REPLACE THEM. GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2009 AND IT EFFECTS BOTH 2007 AND 2008 CHEVY IMPALAS. THEY DID A RECALL ON 07 AND 08 POLICE VERSIONS OF THE IMPALA BUT NOT ON THE CIVILIAN VERSION. THE NHTSB NEEDS TO TAKE A HARD LOOK AT THIS DESIGN PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT OR KILLED DUE TO A BLOW OUT. *TR

MARCH 16 2014 I RECEIVED A FLAT WHILE PARKED... ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE AND INSIDE TIRE WEAR FOUR MONTHS BRAND NEW TIRES DESTROYED. CHEVROLET IMPALA DISPLAYS EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF THE REAR TIRES. I AM ASSUMING IT IS THE REAR TIRES AS ONLINE SEARCHES DESCRIBE THE SAME CONDITION AFFECT THE REAR TIRES. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY TIME THE OIL WAS CHANGED, SO THE FRONT TIRES SHOW SOME WEAR BUT NOT NEARLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF DAMAGE. IT IS MY GUESS THIS WEARING STARTED BEFORE THE MOST RECENT TIRE ROTATION. THE TIRES ARE WORN TO THE POINT THE CORDS ARE SHOWING ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE REAR TIRES. THE TIRE IS VERY ROUNDED ON THE INSIDE EDGE OF EACH TIRE WHILE THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF EACH TIRE LOOKS LIKE THEY DID WHEN NEW. THE TIRES ARE MICHELIN HYDROEDGE TIRES WITH APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES, THEY ARE RATED FOR 90,000 MILES. ONLINE INFORMATION SAYS THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SPINDLE RODS. THERE IS A PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST "NEW GM" TO HONOR DESIGN PROBLEMS OF "OLD GM." GM ORDER A RECALL ON ALL POLICE IMPALAS FROM 2007-2008 WITHIN A VIN RANGE TO REPLACE THE SPINDLE RODS. REAR TIRES WEARING TOO PREMATURELY DUE TO BAD ENGINEERING AND DESIGN IN THE 2007 CHEVY IMPALA. I'M AT 50,000 MILES AND SECOND SET OF TIRES IS WEARING TOO SOON AS WELL. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION & SPINDLE RODS ANGLING THE TIRES IN THE WRONG POSITION CAUSING THE CAR TO BE UNSAFE DURING ANY ICE, SNOW AND OR SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. GM HAS RECALLED ALL POLICE VEHICLES TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN THE EXACT MODEL CAR. HOWEVER, THEY ARE LEAVING THE INDIVIDUAL OWNER TO SCRAMBLE AND FIND A SOLUTION, KNOWING IT'S A DANGEROUS SITUATION. TRAVELING EASTBOUND ON I-90, LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING CAME ON, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY TIRES AND NOTICED THAT JUST THE INSIDE OF MY REAR TIRES WERE WORN DOWN TO THE BELTS, HOWEVER VERY LITTLE WEAR ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE TIRE. THE MANAGER OF THE SHOP CAME OUT TO TELL ME THAT MANY OF HIS CUSTOMERS WITH IMPALAS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. A EXTRA LONG FACTORY INSTALLED CAMBER BOLT CAUSES THE VEHICLES TO BECOME UN ALIGNED, AND CAUSES EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE TIRES. *TR

THE CAR HAS ALIGNMENT PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING I NEVER FELT CONFIDENT ABOUT THE FEEL AND FELT LIKE TRACTION WAS NOT WAS NOT GOOD. ORIGINAL SET OF TIRES PREMATURELY FAILED AROUND 30,000 MILES. EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE. WHEN COMPLAINED THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDED ALIGNMENT AND PERFORMED ON THE FRONT WHEELS. AFTER THAT I REPLACED ALL 4 TIRES. UPON EXAMINING THE TIRES RECENTLY I REALIZED THAT THE REAR TIRES ARE WEARING UNEVENLY, INSIDE WAS WEARING FAST. THE ROAD NOSE FROM THE REAR WHEELS WAS INCREASING STEADILY. HOWEVER THE FRONT TIRES SEEMS TO BE FINE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER WITH THE PROBLEM, HE SUGGESTED ALL WHEEL ALIGNMENT FOR WHICH I WILL HAVE TO PAY. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE PARTS/INSPECTION PRIOR TO DELIVERY.
WE PURCHASED OUR 2007 IMPALA SS ON 11/17/09 WITH 33,003 MILES ON IT. ON JULY 20, 2011 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WITH MY WIFE AND STEPSON ON THE I-94 FREEWAY IN CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI., THE LEFTSIDE REAR TIRE BLEWOUT. WE NOTICE THAT IT HAD BROKE THE INNER PLASTIC PIECE AND BENT THE MUFFLER TIP AND THERE WAS CLEARLY NO RUBBER LEFT ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE ALL YOU SAW WAS WIRES. HAD TO PUT OUR SPARE TIRE ON. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE TIRE SHOP ON JULY 22, 2011 TO HAVE THAT TIRE REPLACED, SERVICE GUY SAID THERE WAS NO RUBBER LEFT ON THE INSIDE OF THE LEFT TIRE IN THE REAR, AND THE WIRES WERE CLEARLY VISIBLE AND SHOWED US THEM, WHICH WE HAD NOTICED WHEN THIS OCCURRED. HE ALSO STATED THAT ON THE REAR RIGHTSIDE THE WIRES WERE SHOWING TOO. WE HAD HIM REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. HE ALSO STATED THAT WE HAD BEEN THE 4TH IMPALA THEY HAD REPLACED TIRES ON IN THE PAST WEEK. WHILE ON THE LIFT WE NOTICED THAT THE BACK TIRES WERE SLIGHTLY LEANING OUT, LIKE (/) LEFT SIDE AND (\) RIGHT SIDE, I TOLD HIM THAT I WANT THE TIRES BACK AND HE GAVE THEM TO ME. WE TOOK THEM HOME AND TOOK PICKS OF THEM AND THE BACK OF OUR CAR TO SHOW HOW THE TIRES WERE STILL LEANING OUT, AND ALSO TOOK PICTURES OF WHERE THE PLASTIC HAD BEEN BROKE IN THE WHEEL WELL. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN LESS THAN 20,000 MILE SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND TOLD THE SERVICE GUY WHAT HAD HAPPENED, HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AS OF YET ON THIS PROBLEM BUT THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD CAME IN WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS, THAT I SHOULD GET AHOLD OF GM AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE POLICE VEHICLE THAT HAD BEEN RECALLED BUT AS OF YET KNEW NOTHING ABOUT ALL OTHERS.
