THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, THEN ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE TURN SIGNALS STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS ALSO EFFECTING MY HAZARD LIGHTS. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS OCCURRING DAILY. *CN
AFTER PARKING THE CAR I WAS NOTIFIED BY A NEIGHBOR THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPT. WAS CALL AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE.THE ARSON SQUAD WAS CALLED AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLES FIRE WAS DUE TO A MECHANICAL PROBLEM. AFTER I RESEARCHED THE VEHICLE SAFETY RECALLS AND FOUND OUT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE AND I WAS UNAWARE OF IT. I PURCHASED IT USED. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTICE ON THE RECALL. I FOUND THERE WERE MANY OTHER FIRES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY BURNED UP VEHICLE WAS NON REPAIRABLE AND TOWED TO THE JUNK YARD AFTER ARSON INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETE. *TR
THE TURN SIGNALS STARTED WORKING INTERMITTENT, THEN QUIT. THIS WAS A RECALL A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, AND IT WAS RELATED TO THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS A REPEAT AND WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE SWITCHES ARE STILL GOING BAD AND NOT COVERED. MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS DESTROYED INTERNALLY WHEN MY SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND THIS DAMAGE WAS DISCOVERED DURING THE LAST REPLACEMENT IN WHICH I REPLACED THE SWITCH ON MY OWN SINCE IT WAS NOT COVERED. *TR
1) NOTHING ABNORMAL 2) LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION SPRING BROKE, BROKEN SPRING CUT THROUGH SIDE WALL OF TIRE, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LITERALLY DROP ONTO FRAME, LOOSING COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY, VEHICLE WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 20 MPH AT THE TIME THE SPRING BROKE! I HAVE WORKED IN AUTO DEALERSHIPS FOR 30 YEARS, AND ALTHOUGH A BROKEN SPRING ISN'T ALL THAT UNUSUAL, THIS IS THE THIRD SPRING THAT HAS BROKEN ON THIS VEHICLE IN THE PAST YEAR. I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH PASSENGER SIDE SPRINGS LAST YEAR. 3) I REPLACED ALL FOUR SPRINGS ON THIS VEHICLE, AND FOUND THE EPOXY COATING (ON THE SPRINGS) IN VERY POOR CONDITION. UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T HAVE THE OLD SPRINGS. I HAVE ALSO READ ON CHEVY MALIBU MESSAGE BOARDS THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON OCCURRENCE. *TR
"PASSLOCK SYSTEM" 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU WILL NOT LET CAR START, AND SOMETIMES CAUSES ENGINE TO GO DEAD WHILE DRIVING, WHICH LEAVES DRIVER UNABLE TO STEER CAR (POWER STEERING). PASSLOCK SENSOR WAS CHANGED A YEAR AGO AT CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP ($750) NOW ITS DOING SAME THING AGAIN.*TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE TURN SIGNALS/HAZARD LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE. HE CONTACTED GM IN REFERENCE TO RECALL #03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH). HE WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. HE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WAS A LEAKAGE WITHIN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WHICH COULD RESULT TO THE ENGINE OVERHEATING AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE FRONT EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY. ALTHOUGH RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS:03V327000 AND 09E012000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH) REFERENCE THE FAILURE, HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER RECALL. ALSO SHE COULD SMELL AN ELECTRICAL BURNING ODOR. NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNDER 120,000. UPDATED 02/17/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE TURN SIGNALS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE SIGNALS FAILED TWICE WITHIN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. IF THE CONSUMER TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS, THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD THEN WORK. UPDATED 02/17/10.
TURN SIGNAL WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
THE BLINKERS OF MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU TURN OFF RANDOMLY AND I DON'T KNOW IT UNTIL I GO TO MAKE A TURN WHICH CAN ABSOLUTELY RESULT IN A CRASH. IT ALSO AFFECTS MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND REAR PASSENGER BRAKELIGHTS WHICH WILL NOT COME ON THOUGH THE BULBS ARE NEW. I LOOKED INTO RECALLS AND THERE WAS INDEED A RECALL REGARDING THIS EXACT PROBLEM STATING THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH OVERHEATS AND MELTS AND THEN DISRUPTS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SPECIFICALLY AFFECTING THIS PART OF MY CAR. WHEN I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS FIVE DAYS LATE TO HAVE THE PART FIXED. BEING THAT I ONLY BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR, 2009, I SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE SO THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED, BUT RECEIVED NO SUCH INFORMATION IN THE MAIL AND AM UNABLE TO AFFORD TO FIX THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. ALSO, WHEN I GO TO START MY CAR, IT WILL RANDOMLY TURN ON THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT AND NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO START. ON INVESTIGATION APPARENTLY, THE CHEVY MALIBU COMES WITH THE PASSKEY SYSTEM AND DESPITE THAT THE COMPANY KNOWS THAT IT IS FAULTY THEY WILL DO NOTHING TO FIX IT. THOUGH IT IS THEIR FAULT THEY JUST TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE KEY CYLINDER WHICH IS NOT DEFINITE TO WORK, OR TO SPRAY GRAPHITE POWDER IN IT TO HELP WITH CONNECTION BUT THAT OVERALL IT IS MY PROBLEM. WHY IS IT THAT I HAVE A CAR THAT WAS BOUGHT IN RUNNING CONDITION THAT WILL KILL ITSELF RANDOMLY AND THAT IS MY PROBLEM WHEN IT IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT!? I CAN NEVER KNOW WHEN OR WHEN NOT MY CAR WILL START AND HAVE MISSED WORK AND OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS. AND IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT WILL NOT START! OR THAT I COULD BE TRAPPED IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE MY CAR SIMPLY DECIDES THAT THE KEY THAT IS SUPPOSED TO START IT AND IS LINKED TO IT WILL NOT WORK. THIS IS TRULY UNACCEPTABLE AND NOT RIGHT FOR CHEVY TO THINK THAT WE SHOULD JUST DEAL WITH A CAR THAT IS BROKEN THOUGH NOT THE CONSUMERS FAULT AND ALL OF THE OPTIONS THEY GIVE FOR FIXING IT ARE NOT DEFINITE. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU IN MARCH OF 2001. IN EARLY 2003 I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE I HAD LOST STEERING ABILITY. I WAS TOLD THE SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SO I HAD IT DONE. A WEEK LATER I HAD TO BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. I WAS THEN TOLD THE ABS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SO I HAD THAT DONE. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE MY BRAKES NUMEROUS TIMES. JUST LAST YEAR I HAD TO REPLACE THE PADS 3 TIMES IN A 9 MONTH PERIOD BECAUSE THE PADS HAD BEEN WORN ALL THE WAY DOWN. DURING THAT 9 MONTH PERIOD I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS ONCE THEN A WEEK LATER THE ROTORS HAD TO BE RESURFACE AGAIN. NOW I AM HAVING TO HAVE MY BRAKE PADS REPLACED AGAIN THIS WEEKEND. SO THAT MAKES A TOTAL OF 4 BRAKE PAD CHANGES IN LESS THAN A YEARS TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE REMEDY SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL WAS NOT EFFECTIVE TO PROPERLY REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,327. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 135,000.
2000 CHEVY MALIBU ANTI THEFT WOULD KEEP CAR FROM STARTING FOR NO REASON. I COULD FOLLOW THE GM'S FIX FOR THIS BY WAITING 10 MINUTES AND THAN THE CAR WOULD START. WE HAVE DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND THE DEALER HAS TOLD US THEY CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG.IT HAS PROGRESSED TO WHERE YOU NOW ARE ABLE TO START THE CAR BUT IT WILL SHUT THE ENGINE OFF WITHIN A MINUTE. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 DAYS. THIS HAPPENED ONCE TO MY WIFE WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF CREATING THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR WILL NOT START FOR TEN MINUTES. HAPPENS TWICE A WEEK. *TR
MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK OR MORE WILL NOT START AND THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF, IT WILL USUALLY START THE SECOND TIME AROUND. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A YEAR, BUT RECENTLY THE CAR WOULDN'T START AFTER NUMEROUS 10-MINUTE DELAYS. AFTER PAYING OUT $94 FOR LABOR I WAS TOLD IT COULDN'T BE FIXED AND TO LOOK FOR A RECALL. I HAVE FOUND NO RECALL BUT MANY, MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM A SINGLE WOMAN AND I HAVE BEEN SITTING IN FAR TOO MANY PARKING LOTS, ALL TIMES OF DAY AND NIGHT WAITING FOR MY CAR TO REALIZE THAT IT IS NOT BEING STOLEN BY ME, THE ONE WITH THE KEY. I HAVE NO EXPERTISE IN THIS MATTER AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY OUT LABOR CHARGES ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THERE'S NO WAY TO FIX IT. I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT THIS WAY NEVER KNOWING WHEN I'LL BE STUCK FOR 10 MINUTES OR MUCH LONGER AS HAPPENED RECENTLY. 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU LS WAS DRIVEN TO WORK. SHUT THE CAR OFF AND WENT INSIDED THE BUILDING. CAME OUT AND CAR WOULD NOT RESTART DUE TO THE THEFT SYSTEM LIGHT FLASHING. HAD TO WAIT AT LEAST TEN MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO START. THE CONSEQUENCES IS THAT THE CAR IF LEAVING PEOPLE STRANDED. *TR

A LOCAL MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FRAME AND BOLTS HAD RUST ON THEM WHICH CAUSED THE RACK AND PINION TO FAIL. THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN A QUOTE OF $2,000 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, HE REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS NOT WORTH THE REPAIR COST. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 80,010.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 WHEN MPH SHE ENGAGED THE LEFT SIGNAL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE TURN SIGNAL WOULD NOT ACTIVATE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HAZARD LIGHTS HAD ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, YET THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HER THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD BECOME SLOW TO RESPOND TO THE CONTACT'S ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ACCELERATION FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,649.
MY TURN SIGNALS FAIL TO WORK. I HAVE TO COMMUTE AN HOUR TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY ON A CROWDED HIGHWAY AND I HAVE ALMOST GOT INTO SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE I HAVE TO MERGE WITH NO BLINKERS. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SAID MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, BUT I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL OF THE RECALL. VERY ANNOYING, I DON'T HAVE $300 TO FIX MY BLINKERS. *TR
FATHER WAS IN LATE 80'S OR EARLY 90'S (DIED AT 97 IN 2013). CHEVY MALIBU WITH ON DASH IGNITION SWITCH WAS STILL STOPPING WHILE ON ITS THIRD IGNITION SWITCH, THE REPAIR COVERED FREE BY GM. I DROVE THE CAR TO TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT THE IGNITION AND HENCE POWER STEERING ( HEADLIGHTS STILL ON) SHUT OFF WHEN GOING OVER THE GRAND TRUNK RAILROAD CROSSING. THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED WAS THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD TURN SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT (1/8 INCH) OR EVEN TURN FULLY OFF DEPENDING ON THE MOMENTUM OF DAD'S LARGE KEY CHAIN HANGING FROM THE IGNITION KEY. IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THE POWER STEERING QUIT AND THE POWER BRAKES DON'T WORK WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. ACCORDING TO A LOCKSMITH, THE DETENTS ON THESE SWITCHES WERE VERY POORLY MANUFACTURED. SOLUTION WAS TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF KEYS ON THE KEY CHAIN. *TR

THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER OR A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE RUST WAS BUILDING AROUND THE FILLER PIPE FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 6/8/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE FUEL DOOR WAS HANGING OFF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE HINGES WERE WELDED TO THE BODY AND IT RUSTED THROUGH. UPDATED 06/23/11
THE DAY MAY 13, 2009 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT HILLSBOROUGH AVENUE AT 12: 15 A DAY. ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION CROSSED THE STREET TO ENTER THE PARKING LOT OF ROSS. MY WIFE QUICKLY USE THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WAS WHEN COLLIDED WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE STOPPED. MY WIFE SUFFERED TRAUMA TO THE SPINE AND NECK. BREAKING THE 5TH LUMBAR VERTEBRA AND HERNIATED CERVICAL. NEVER AGAIN COULD WORK OR IT COULD OPERATE. REQUIRES A SPINAL FUSION WHICH COSTS $ 80,000.00. NOW WE KNOW WHY THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND DID NOT PREVENT THE ACCIDENT. *TR
EXTERIOR LIGHTING SWITCH TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, FAILS DAILY WHEN TURNED ON. *TR
MY CAR HAS EXPEREINCED TROUBLE STARTING DUE TO THIS IGNITION SWIRCH, RECALL. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAVE BEEN TO SERVICE STATIONS AND THE MECHANINCS COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON, CAUSING ME TO PUT OUT MONEY FOR A NEW STARTER, A NEW ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, NEW FUEL PUMP ETC. THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE FACED WERE DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH NOT BEING IN THE "RUN" POSITION. HOW CAN I EVER BE COMPENSATED FOR ALL OF THE REPAIRS THAT WERE NOT REALLY NEEDED ON MY CAR DUE TO SOME MAJOR CORPORATION BEING GREEDY AND KEEPING IT'S CUSTOMERS IN THE DARK ABOUT THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION. GM HAS BEEN PUTTING ME IN DANGER FOR YEARS NOW, AND I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO WAIT FOR THE PARTS TO BE MADE TO CORRECT THEIR ERROR. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED ON THE ROAD AND IN UNDESIRED PLACES, THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE! *TR
THE PASS LOCK OR THEFT SYSTEM ON MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU. IT IS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM. EVERY THREE STARTS I HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES TO START MY CAR. THIS IS A STUPID FEATURE, AND GM SHOULD DISCONTINUE IT. I HAVE NOT YET FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT WAS ESTIMATED $500 PLUS PARTS TO FIX. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND CHEVROLET SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. MY MALIBU IS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL LIST, BUT I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME WHEN IT WON'T START THE INDICATOR LIGHTS SHOWS THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT. YOU CAN SIT THERE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES AND THE CAR WILL THEN START. IF YOU TRY IT IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES IT MESSES UP AGAIN AND YOU HAVE TO START THE 10 MINUTES AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS THINGS TO GET THIS TO CORRECT ITSELF. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS IN THE KEY AND WE HAVE GOTTEN NEW KEYS FROM THE DEALER AND THAT DIDN'T WORK. IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS, THE CAR HAS STARTED JUST CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY IT HAS BEEN WHILE STILL IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND NO ONE HAS GOTTEN HURT. WE THEN PUSHED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAIT THE 10 MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR. AFTER REPLENISHING RADIATOR FLUID IN MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU WITH THE APPROVED FLUID, HAVOLINE DEX-COOL RADIATOR FLUID, MY CAR STARTED TO CONSTANTLY LEAK ANTI-FREEZE AND NOW I HAVE A LEAK AND MY RADIATOR "IDIOT" LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON. THE CAR WAS PERFECTLY FINE PRIOR TO THE APPLICATION OF THE DEX-COOL BUT DAYS AFTERWARD MY TROUBLES BEGAN. THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM BEFORE AND AS USUAL 4-6 WEEKS I WOULD HAVE TO REPLENISH 1/2 GALLON OF FLUID. THIS IS NOTED ON EVERY DISCUSSION BOARD REGARDING THIS MODEL BETWEEN 1997-2003. IT'S TOO CIRCUMSTATIAL THAT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE APPLICATION OF THE DEX-COOL THAT MY TROUBLES BEGAN THEN FINDING THE SETTLEMENT OF GM REGARDING THIS MATTER AND IMPROPER GASKETS FOR THEIR MANIFOLDS AND WATER PUMPS (NYLON/SOLICONE BASED) THAT THE COURTS FOUND THAT THE COOLANT DOES INDEED CORRODE THESE GASKETS. NOW THAT MY CAR IS 8 YRS OLD, MY ABILITY TO RECOUP ANY MONEY ON USING THE PROPER/RECOMMENDED PRODUCT AS STATED BY GM IS MORE THAN LIKELY IMPROBABLE. *TR

NOTICED COOLANT LEAKING FOR THE 2ND TIME IN 2 YEARS. THIS IS NOW THE 2ND TIME TO REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. THE 1ST REPLACEMENT WAS DONE 2006 FOR ~$750. NOW THE ESTIMATE TO REPLACE GASKET AND FLUSH COOLING SYSTEM IS ~ $800. NEW RADIATOR MAY BE REQUIRED IF THE SERVICE SHOP CAN NOT FLUSH OIL OUT OF THE RADIATOR. *TR
PASSLOCK ANTI THEFT DEVICE (OR SYSTEM) IN 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. PASSIVE ANTI THEFT COMES ON AND REFUSES TO LET THE AUTOMOBILE START IF THERE IS EVEN A HICCUP IN THE STARTING PROCESS THE CAR WILL NOT START UNLESS LEFT IN ACC FOR 10 MINUTES. THIS HAS PROVEN TO BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I RECEIVED A CALL THAT MY DAUGHTER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND I WAS NEEDED. WENT TO START MY VEHICLE, THERE WAS A HICCUP IN THE PROCESS AND MY AUTOMOBILE REFUSED TO START FOR 10 MINUTES. IN AN EMERGENT SITUATION WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER YOUR VEHICLE IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. LUCKILY IN THIS CASE THE 10 MINUTES DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE OUTCOME, HOWEVER IN AN EMERGENCY 10 MINUTES COULD PROVE TO BE LIFE THREATENING. I REPEAT - TO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER ONE'S OWN VEHICLE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT THE LEAST AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN AN EMERGENCY. GM WANTS $500 TO REPLACE THE NECESSARY MODULE - WHICH WILL FAIL AGAIN. $500 TO REGAIN CONTROL OVER MY OWN VEHICLE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PLACE A SWITCH WITHIN REASONABLE ACCESS SO THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE CAN DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THIS DANGEROUS EQUIPMENT CAN BE ENABLED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS COMMON FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

THE 5 DIGIT GM RECALL NUMBER IS 03043 AND THE SUMMARY IS: SUMMARY: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES HAVE HAZARD WARNING SWITCHES THAT MAY EXPERIENCE SOLDER JOINT CRACKING CAUSED BY RAPID TEMPERATURE TRANSITIONS AND THE SOLDERING PROCESS. IF SOLDER JOINT CRACKING OCCURS AND RESULTS IN AN OPEN CIRCUIT, THE TURN SIGNALS/HAZARD LAMPS BECOME INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE.
