2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU, 20,000 MILES - DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD SET OF ROTORS. IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (I BOUGHT EXTENDED WARRANTY) AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THIS IS A PROBLEM SPECIFIC TO MALIBU'S OF THIS TIME PERIOD. 3 SETS OF BRAKE ROTORS IN 20,000 MILES? UNHEARD OF AND ABSOLUTELY QUALIFIES FOR A "LEMON PART". THIS SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY GM, BUT INSTEAD IT IS A PROFIT STREAM FOR THEM. CAN YOU HELP?*AK
COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM MY 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU ENGINE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND MY COOLANT PUMP. THE CAR HAS ONLY 52,000 MILES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET AND COOLANT PUMP. THE COST WAS $1250. I WORK AT A COMPANY WHERE I KNOW ALL THE OTHER CHEVROLET MALIBU OWNERS. THERE ARE TWO OTHER: ONE OWNS A 1999 AND THE OTHER OWNS A 2000 MALIBU, BOTH WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. THE 2000 OWNER HAS HAD THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED FOR $950. THE 1999 OWNER HAS HAD THE COOLANT PUMP REPLACED AND WILL PROBABLY NEED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED. I FEEL THAT CHEVROLET HAD INITIALLY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE CHEAP PARTS IN THIS MODEL AND WILL NOT OWN UP TO IT. *AK
ABS LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY, FAN DOES NOT OPERATE ON SPEEDS 1 & 2, BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS NEED REPLACED EVERY YEAR, HAZARD/TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY, AND INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET BEGAN LEAKING AROUND 70,000 MILES. THE COOLANT IS LISTED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AS NOT NEEDING SERVICE FOR 150,000 MILES BUT IT TURNED VERY ACIDIC IN LESS THAN HALF THAT TIME AND ATE THE GASKET CAUSING THE NEED FOR COSTLY REPAIRS OR ELSE RISK PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. TURN SIGNAL ISSUE RECALLED BUT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE'S VIN. VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO SIGNAL INTENTION TO TURN OR SWITCH LANES AND WAS UNSAFE ON HIGHWAYS. HAVE YET TO EXPERIENCE COMMON FUEL PUMP FAILURE THAT COULD CAUSE STALLING IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. NOT RECALLED IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM OF THE LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET BECAUSE IT IS NOT DEEMED A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS CAN BECOME SAFETY ISSUE IF ENGINES CATCH FIRE OR FAIL ON HIGHWAY DUE TO COOLANT LEAK INTO MOTOR OIL. COST TO REPAIR LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET QUOTED AT $743. CURRENTLY DISCUSSING WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED IN TSB 03-06-01-010B (10/24/2003) AND THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS-ACTION LAWSUITS. TSB DESCRIBES REPLACING FAULTY GASKET WITH A NEW GASKET THAT HAS IMPROVED SEALING QUALITIES. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY TSB FOR 2000 MALIBU OTHER THAN TURN SIGNAL RECALL. GM IS BEING INTENTIONALLY DISHONEST WHEN OWNERS INQUIRE ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA TAKES NOTICE OF THE MULTITUDE OF SAFETY ISSUES CONCERNING THIS VEHICLE AND CAN OBTAIN A SATISFIABLE RESOLUTION FROM GM TO MAKE THIS VEHICLE SAFE FOR OWNERS OR JUSTLY COMPENSATE THEM FOR THE REPAIRS NECESSARY TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SAFE.*AK
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU WITH 38000 MILES. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS LEAKING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL. I WAS TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN MANY GASKET FAILURES ON THE MALIBU BUT THERE IS NO RECALL. REPAIR COST IS ESTIMATED AT $645.00 BY THE DEALER. I AM NOW UNABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR OR SAFELY DRIVE THE CAR FOR FEAR OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THE CAR IS NOW IN STORAGE. *JB
WHENEVER THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SHIMMY. WOULD LET BRAKES GO WHEN VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIMMY. THIS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND HAD THE ROTORS TURNED AND BRAKES REPLACED. THE ROTORS WOULD BE TURNED EVERY 6,000 TO 10,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED.*AK
2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU: TURN SIGNALS STOP WITHOUT WARNING. AIR CONDITION STOPS AND STARTS ON ITS ON. BRAKES SQUEAL. ENGINE SURGES. USES OI, L BUT NO LEAK. USES ALOT OF COOLANT NO LEAK FOUND BY ME. IGNITION SWITCH LOCKS AND WONT LET GO SOMETIMES.*AK
THE KEY TO MY 2000 MALIBU WILL NOT TURN. IT STARTED "ACTING UP"ONLY WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING FOR A WHILE. IT KNOW HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT OF EVERYTIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON. THE KEY IS ALSO ABLE TO BE REMOVED WHILE THE CAR IS ON. I AM IN THE PROCESS TO TRY TO REPLACE IT, HOWEVER I CAN NOT BUY JUST THE CYLANDER I WAS TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SWITCH. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND NEED TO HAVE A CAR START, AND CAN NOT "PLAY" WITH THE KEY FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES UNTIL IT WILL TURN. WHILE I WAS TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP, HE COMMENTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE KEY NOT TURNING.*AK
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S SIGNAL AND HAZARD LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONED. THE LIGHTS SOMETIMES WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER ONCE TO HAVE IT CHECKED. THE CONSUMER SAID THAT HE LOOKED AT IT HIMSELF. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS. THE CONSUMER SAID THAT THE BATTERY POLE HAD A SHORT LIFE. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE BATTERY POLE HIMSELF. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A DELAY IN THE SIGNALS COMING ON.*AK
WHILE PARKED IN THE GARAGE TO HAVE A WATER PUMP INSTALLED MECHANIC TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE KEY WOULD NOT START IT. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HOME SINCE THE WEATHER WAS BAD. A LOCK SMITH CAME AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD AND OTHER COMPONENTS HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
THE MALIBU ENGINE SMELLED HOT AND FLUID WAS LEAKING ONTO THE GARAGE FLOOR. A MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT COOLANT IS LEAKING ONTO THE TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION FROM THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET. WE HAVE ADDED FLUID A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE GASKET WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD REPLACE THIS SINCE IT IS A COMMONLY KNOWN PROBLEM ON THIS CAR. *NM
CHEV. 2000 MALIBU RECALL 03043 (03V327000). UNABLE TO GET RECALL COMPLETED DUE TO NO PARTS AVAILABLE. AT SLOANE CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPARTMENT (COTTMAN AVE., PHILA, PA.) ON 1/17/05: ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE OVER 1 WEEK IN ADVANCE TO COME IN FOR THE RECALL. RECALL DESCRIPTION & RECALL NUMBER & VIN NUMBER WERE GIVEN TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SO THEY COULD BR SURE TO HAVE WHAT'S NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE SERVICE. DESPITE THIS, THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS NECESSARY TO DO THE RECALL! THIS IS AFTER I MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO GET THE WORK DONE WHILE I WAS OFF FROM WORK, AND TRAVELED THERE ON A TREACHEROUS SNOWY DAY. SUGGESTION WAS MADE BY THE DEALER (SLOANE CHEV.) TO CONTACT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP, MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO BRING THE CAR IN FOR THE RECALL, AND THEN HOPE THAT THEY HAVE THE PART. OBVIOUSLY CHEVROLET/GM DOES NOT WANT TO GET THIS RECALL COMPLETED! *JB
THE INTAKE GASKET ON MY 2000 MALIBU IS LEAKING AND IT'S GOING TO COST 550.00 TO REPAIR IT. CALLED JACKSON CHEVROLET AND SERVICE MGR. STATED HE PURCHASED MALIBU FOR WIFE AND HE ALSO REPLACED THE INTAKE GASKET. THE SERVICE MGR ALSO STATED THAT ALL THE MALIBUS WITH THAT MOTOR ARE BAD ABOUT THE INTAKE GASKETS LEAKING. CALLED GM AND THEY SAID CAN'T PAY FOR REPAIRS. WILL NOT BUY A GM AUTOMOBILE AGAIN. STILL NOT FIXED. PUTTING WATER AND ANTIFREEZE IN IT EVERYDAY. *NM
THE BRAKE PULSATE AND GRIND. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR 2 YRS NOW. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKING SYSTEM COMPLETLY REPLACED. BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, CALIPERS, MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE FUEL LINES, YOU NAME IT AND IT HAS BEEN DONE. I REPLACED THE BRAKES WITH GM PARTS. I NEED NEW BRAKES AGAIN. MY CAR COULD NOT STOP IN TIME TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. IT IS AWFUL. WHEN THE CALIPERS WERE INSTALLED THEY MAKE CLICKING SOUNDS I WAS TOLD THIS WAS OK. ALSO, IF I APPLY THE BRAKES WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD THE ABS GOES OFF. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HAZARD LIGHTS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING: HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS: SWITCH). THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 175,900.
(1) THE FAILURE OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. (2) THE INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKS RADIATOR FLUID DUE TO FAULTY GASKETS. FORTUNATELY, THE PROBLEM WAS OBSERVED BEFORE THE ENGINE OVERHEATED OR CAUGHT FIRE, BUT THERE IS EVIDENCE OF COOLANT CONTAMINATING THE ENGINE OIL: FURTHER CONSEQUENCES WILL LIKELY OCCUR IN THE FUTURE. (3) THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED. A FIRESTONE SERVICE CENTER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM BUT REPAIRS HAVE NOT YET BEEN CONTRACTED. A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP/SERVICE CENTER (BILL HEARD) GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $1000 FOR THE REPAIR. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAULT IN CHEVY MALIBUS AND OTHER GM CARS WITH THIS ENGINE TYPE. THE SERVICE REP AT FIRESTONE STATED THAT THIS WAS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM SEEN IN THIS CAR, AND THE SERVICE REP AT THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IN MALIBUS, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS FAIL "MORE OFTEN THAN NOT." *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS WOULD FUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY. SHE COULD NEVER PINPOINT WHEN THEY WOULD MALFUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE LIGHTS FUNCTIONED PROPERLY EACH TIME AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER REGARDING NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH) AND THEY INSTALLED A NEW SWITCH. THE REMEDY CORRECTED THE ISSUE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED IN THE LATTER PART OF 2008. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE AGAIN BECAUSE THE RECALL REPAIR HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED. IN ADDITION, THE HEATER DID NOT WORK. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,902 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,668.
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS. THE TURN SIGNALS/HAZARD LAMPS BECOME INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO OFFERED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. CONSUMER LATER CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, WHO NOTIFIED CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT THAT WAS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. *AK *JB
TURN SIGNAL AND FLASHER WOULD INTERMITTENTLY TURN ON, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR VEHICLES IN THE REAR TO SEE WHEN DRIVER NEEDED TO TURN. CONSUMER WILL TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR CHECK UP.*AK
THE HAZARD WARNING SWITCH FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 03043 WAS ISSUED. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
RECALL 03V327000/HAZARD WARNING SWITCH. SIGNAL LIGHTS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH IT EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECTS THAT WERE DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. *AK
VEHICLE IS LEAKING ANTIFREEZE OUT THE INTAKE GASKET MANIFOLD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. CONSUMER WILL NOTIFY THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM FOR REPAIR. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE COMPONENT SHOULD BE RECALLED TO THE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS IT EXHIBITS. *NM
WHILE BRAKING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, AND THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK

CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT TURN SIGNALS PROBLEM. WHEN DRIVING TURN SIGNALS WORKED OFF AND ON. THE CAUSE OF THIS WAS STILL UNKNOWN.*AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT CAPITOL CHEVROLET REPLACED THE HAZZARD SWITCH AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. *TC
RECALL 03V327000 CONCERNING HAZARD WARNING SWITCH WAS ISSUED. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME DEFECT. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO TOLD CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WORK SOMETIMES AND OTHER TIMES THEY DO NOT. TURN SIGNALS BLINK FASTER/SLOWER THAN NORMAL ON THE CONUSMERS VEHICLE. *TC
THE CONSUMER STATED THE TURN SIGNAL FAILED TO COME ON. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE TURN SIGNAL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE FILL I ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
TRUN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK HALF THE TIME, IN ORDER TO MAKE SIGNALS FUNCTION YOU HAVE TO HIT THE HAZARD SWITCH WHILE DRIVING. *AK
200 CHEVY MALIBU HAZARD SWITCH CLICKS AND BLINKER DOESN'T WORK 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME, CALL CHEVY ABOUT RECALL AND THEY SAY MINE IS NOT UNDER RECALL BECAUSE OF WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED. I THINK THIS IS CRAZY. *JB
VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY I-295 SOUTH AT 65 MPH. APPARENTLY, GASOLINE WAS NOT GETTING TO THE FUEL PUMP. ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT; I HAD TO COAST FROM THE FAST LANE TO THE SHOULDER (THREE LANES)...IT WAS SCARY! VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP (BRANDOW CHEVROLET, FLORENCE, NJ). THE FUEL PUMP RELAY AND SENDER WAS BAD. HAD TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED. *AK
FUEL GAUGE READ 1/2 TO 1/4 FULL AND TANK RAN DRY WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON FREEWAY TO WORK. HAD TO COAST OVER 3 LANES TO SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. SENDER UNIT WAS REPLACED AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MALIBUS, ALEROS, AND GRAND AMS. HAVE HAD FRIENDS WITH THESE CARS AND A SUNFIRE THAT HAVE ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEFECT INVESTIGATION WAS DROPPED BECAUSE OF DECREASE IN COMPLAINTS, BUT MY MECHANIC TELLS ME HE WORKS ON AT LEAST 5 OF THESE MODELS A MONTH FIXING THIS SAME PROBLEM ON ALL OF THEM. I THINK THAT IF I PERSONALLY KNOW FOUR PEOPLE BESIDES MYSELF THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SENDER UNIT, GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS COMPONENT. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HASN'T BEEN INJURED YET, SHOULD NOT BE A DETERMINING FACTOR.*AK
RECALL 03V327000 CONCERNING HAZARD WARNING SWITCH. THE TURN SIGNALS / HAZARD LIGHTS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER/ MANUFACTURER WERENOTIFIED, AND THEY INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. *AK

CONSUMER STATED THAT THE LIGHT SIGNALS ON VEHICLE DID NOT WORK. SHE HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE SWITCH IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS DEFECTIVE. CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LIGHT SIGNALS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FOR THE STEERING FAILED. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE CONSUMER RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD FLASHER TURN SIGNALS ARE INTERMITTENT AT FIRST THEN THEY FAIL TO OPERATE 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE CAR WAS THREE YEARS OLD, AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. *JB
THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND BLINKERS WORKED INTERMITTANTLY. THIS VEHICLE IWASNOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SAME DEFECT AS MENTIONE DIN THE RECALL. *AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE SWITCH IN THE STEERING. ALSO, CONSUMER'S FRIEND WENT INTO THE WEB AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *AK *NM
I PURCHASED A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU IN DEC 1999. THE CAR HAD 6 MILES ON IT WHEN PURCHASED. WITHIN THE LAST YEAR I HAVE NOTICED THE CAR HAS BEEN OVERHEATING A LITTLE, AND I AM HAVING TO FILL THE COOLANT UP ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS(WITH NO NOTICABLE LEAKS). *AK AT THIS POINT I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT SHOPS TELLING ME THAT THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDS REPLACED (COST 5-700 DOLLARS!!)--I STILL OWE 11000 ON THE CAR. I HAVE READ AND SEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THIS ISSUE AND AM VERY DISSAPOINTED IN THE FACT THAT GM WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP OUT. OF COURSE NOW THE CAR IS AT 66000 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY--SO I MUST PAY FOR THE REPAIR--SINGLE MOTHER/GOING TO SCHOOL/WORKING FULL TIME THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECT OUT OF A NEW CHEVY....

THE CONSUMER WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS STATED IN RECALL#03V327000 (HAZARD SWITCH). THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FREE OF CHARGE, BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB THE TURN SIGNAL WAS INOPERATIVE. *SC
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD WARNING LIGHT WERE NOT WORKING. DEALERSHIP URGED CONSUMER TO CALL NHTSA TO REPORT THE DEFECTS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATES THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH THE DRIVER WOULD PUT THE VEHICLE ON CRUISE CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT INCIDENT. *JB THERE WAS A NOISE WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD NOT START. *SC THE POWER STEERING RACK AND FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. *TC *JB
MY WIFE'S 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WHERE HER BLINKERS WERE INTERMITTENT. I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR HER MODEL YEAR AND MODEL, BUT WHEN I CALLED GM, I WAS TOLD THAT HER VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS WAS DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT DID HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM OF INTERMITTENT BLINKER ACTIVITY. (RECALL 03V327000) SO I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, PAID THE $30 FOR A NEW HAZARD SWITCH (PART NUM: 22594146), CAME HOME, TOOK THE BEZEL OFF HER DASH, REPLACED THE SWITCH, AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. THERE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM SINCE. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD OPEN THE RECALL TO INCLUDE A GREATER AMOUNT OF VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WOULD AT LEAST LIKE TO GET REFUNDED FOR BUYING THE NEW PART, AND I HAVE THE OLD PART OF THAT IS NEEDED.*AK
I REPEATED HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND/OR NOT GOING INTO GEAR COMPLETELY AND THIS PROBLEM ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON A FEW OCCASIONS. I FIRST SUSPECTED SOMETHING WAS FAULTY SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE - WHICH WAS A GM CERTIFIED VEHICLE. LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE I HAD TO PAY ALMOST $2000 TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. ITEMS REPLACED INCLUDE THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND SOLENOIDS. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED THAT I HAVE COOLANT LEAKING AND ASSUME IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET - BUT HAVE NOT HAD IT DIAGNOSED YET.
TURN SIGNALS FAILED TO COME ON WHEN APPLIED. CONSUMER HEARD A SOUND WHILE TURNING ON THE TURN SIGNALS. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE SIGNAL LIGHT FLASHER UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK SOMETIMES AND NOT OTHER TIMES. GM ISSUED A RECALL FOR EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT ONLY COVERED FEB 2000 THROUGH MAY 2001. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE IS A 1999 NOT COVERED IN THE RECALL. (RECALL # 03V327000). TC
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STARTED SUDDENLY TO DECELERATE, AND DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS COME ON, FOLLOWED BY VEHICLE STALLING. ALSO, TIE RODS WERE RUBBING. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS WAS DUE TO FUEL PUMP FAILURE. *AK *NM
EVERY TIME I WOULD PUSH ON MY BRAKE PEDAL IT WOULD POP AND MY BRAKES WOULD HARDLY STOP. I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY THE GM DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO IT WAS A MANUFACTORS PROBLEM. WELL IT KEPT HAPPENING,SO I TOOK IT BACK AND HAD NEW FRONT BRAKES PUT ON MY CAR. I HAVE DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS AND IT IS STARTING TO DO IT AGAIN . I WOULD L IKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS SOME KIND OF PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL. I THINK IT KEEP S RUNING MY BRAKES WHAT EVER IT IS.*AK
