MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU WITH ONLY 80,000 MILES HAD A KNUCKLE IN THE FRONT BRAKE SHOWING NO WEAR AND TEAR VEERING ME OFF ROAD ,IM GOING TO KEEP THE PART AND TAKE PICTURES. IT DROVE SMOOTH SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THEN TODAY THE FRONT TIRE FOLDED UNDER. ME AND THE CERTIFIED MECHANIC COULDNT EXPLAIN IT. THE PART SHOWED NO SIGN OF WEAR TO THE AREA THAT BROKE. IVE BEEN LOOKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, CANNOT FIND ONE IF THERE IS LET ME KNOW... THIS IS A VERY BIG DANGER AND IS LIFE THREATENING. AND IT WILL OBVIOUSLY HAPPEN WITHOUT A WARNING. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE MAYBE HAVING THIS HAPPEN AND DONT LIVE TO TELL ABOUT IT BEING THE REASON OR DONT EVEN KNOW TO TELL ABOUT IT. THANX. *NM
A FAULTY HAZARD SWITCH CAUSES THE TURN SIGNALS TO INTERMITTENTLY STOP WORKING AT THE MOST IN OPPORTUNE TIME. ON ONE OCCASION IT ALMOST RESULTED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED FOR THE SAME REASON BY THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 15, 2002. IT IS NOW MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN ONLY MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY THAN BEFORE. I SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE ON 2000/2001 MALIBU OWNERS(ID NUMBER 03V327000) BUT THE DEALERSHIP STATES THAT MY VIN NUMBER DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE RECALL. HE ALSO CLAIMS THAT SINCE THE PART WAS ALREADY REPLACED ONCE IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED AGAIN. I SEARCHED THE WEB AND NOTICED THAT OWNERS OF 2002 MALIBUS ARE ALSO COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. SO, IT IS NOT JUST AN ISOLATED ISSUE. SINCE I NEVER USE THE HAZARD SWITCH IT CAN'T POSSIBLY HAVE GONE BAD BECAUSE OF WEAR AND TEAR. NOR IS IT A PART THAT WOULD BE USED FREQUENTLY ENOUGH TO WEAR OUT. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT WITH THE PART. *JB
ON JULY 7, 2005 I PURCHASED A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU LS. THE RIGHT TWO BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUE TO BURN OUT. NEVER AT THE SAME TIME, IT'S EITHER THE ONE ON THE OUTSIDE OR THE INNER ONE.*JB
GM'S RECALL #03V327000 WHICH STATES THAT THE HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL KEEP THE TURN SIGNALS FROM FLASHING. MY 2000 MALIBU IS HAVING THIS TROUBLE, BUT SINCE THE VIN IS NOT WITHIN THE BREAK POINTS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND WHEN I USED MY TURN SIGNAL ON FOR A LEFT TURN. IT DID NOT OPERATE. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME ABOUT A SAFETY RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. I CONTACTED TEAM CHEVROLET HERE IN COLORADO SPRINGS,CO AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR MY 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU.*JB
HAZARD FLASHER BEGAN WORKING INTERMITTENTLY, THEN THE TURN SIGNALS BEGAN WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. NO PATTERN, THEY WOULD BE ON THEN GO OFF. I WAS IN HEAVY FREEWAY TRAFFIC WITH NO TURN SIGNAL OR HAZARD FLASHER. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND DRIVE HOME USING ARM SIGNALS AND SLOWING TO ALLOW FASTER TRAFFIC TO PASS ME. *NM THE CONSUMER WISHES TO WITHDRAWAL THE COMPLAINT HE FILED WITH NHTSA. THE MANUFACTURER HAS AGREED TO REMEDY THE VEHICLE'S PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE RECALL DID NO APPLY TO HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. THE WASHER PUMP WAS REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK.*JB
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU LS IN WHICH THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO OPERATE MY CAR PROPERLY. I WILL TRY TO START MY CAR AND GO SOMEWHERE AND IT WONT START FOR TEN TO FIFTEEN MINUTES. I LIVE INWI WHERE IT CAN GET VERY HOT AND EXTREMELY COLD. I ALSO HAVE A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF TWO WHO IS WITH ME IN MY VEHICLE ON A REGULAR BASIS. I HAVE CALLED GM AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND I AM TOLD THAT THEY CANT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF IT IS BELOW FREEZING OUT SIDE AND I HAVE MY BABY IN THE CAR WITH ME AND HAVE TO WAIT FOR TEN OF FIFTEEN MINS FOR IT TO HOPEFULLY START MY CHILD OR I COULD GET VERY SICK. NOT TO MENTION SITTING IN A HOT CAR FOR THAT TIME WAITING FOR THE FAKE LIGHT TO GO OFF SO THAT I CAN START IT WITH THEY KEY THAT IS SUPPOSED TO GO WITH THE CAR BUT YET THE CAR THINKS IM TRYING TO STEAL IT. AND ANOTHER ONE IF IM TRAVELING AND STOP TO GET GAS AT NIGHT AND I HAVE TO PAY AT THE PUMP AND TURN THE CAR OFF, CUZ THAT'S WHAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO DO WHILE FUELING, THEN IT DOESN'T WANT TO START AGAIN IM STRANDED AT AN UNOPENED GAS STATION WHO KNOWS WHERE WITH MY YOUNG CHILD AND MYSELF AT NIGHT IN THE FREEZING COLD OR VERY HOT TEMPS. WHY AGAIN IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO BE DONE EITHER. 400 TO 800 TO TRY TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT GM SHOULD RECALL. AND IT ISN'T EVEN GUARANTEED TO NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. WHY IS IT THAT GM WONT RECALL THIS ISSUE THAT I HAVE SEEN TONS AND TONS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT? IS IT BECAUSE GM DOESN'T KNOW A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM? WELL GM U BETTER FIGURE ONE OUT OR U WILL MOST LIKELY BE LOOSING A LOT OF CUSTOMERS. I CERTAINLY WONT BUY ANOTHER GM CAR IF THEY WONT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUES THAT THEY ARE HAVING WITH THESE CARS NOW. I PURCHASED A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU LS IN DECEMBER OF 2002. AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE SOMEONE WORKING IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF A GM DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I HAD MADE A BIG MISTAKE. HE SAID THE ENGINE HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM. HE TOLD ME THE LOWER INTAKE GASKET WOULD EVENTUALLY FAIL. THE ONLY WAY OF FIXING THE PROBLEM ALSO INVOLVES REMOVING THE ENTIRE ENGINE FROM THE CAR. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2005 MY CAR HAS DEVELOPED THIS PROBLEM. I THEN CONTACTED A MECHANIC TO FIND HOW COMMON A PROBLEM THIS IS FOR THE ENGINE. HE WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION IT HAPPENED TO ALL GM V6 ENGINES. THIS FAILURE IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL EXPENSE WHICH I DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDING TO FIX. WITH LESS THAN 65,000 MILES I DO NOT FEEL A CAR SHOULD DEVELOP MAJOR MECHANICAL DEFECTS. *NM
MY CAR WILL NOT START WHEN THE THEFT SECURITY LIGHT COMES ON. THIS IS DANGEROUS SINCE I AM A SINGLE PARENT AND BECOME STRANDED WITH MY CHILDREN INSIDE THE CAR WITH ME OR HAVE TO PICK MY CHILDREN UP AND THEY HAVE TO WAIT ALONE OUTSIDE BECAUSE I AM SO LATE. TODAY, MY CAR HAS NOT STARTED FOR OVER ONE HOUR. IT IS STILL SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT UNABLE TO START BECAUSE OF THE SECURITY THEFT SYSTEM. I WISH THIS WOULD BE RECALLED, AND HOPE THAT PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO START DYING FOR IT TO BE RECALLED. LOOKING ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS FILED ON FORUMS. I BELIEVE THAT IF EVERYONE KNEW THE PROPER CHANNEL TO COMPLAIN TO, THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NO LONGER EXIST. MY ABS LIGHT COMES ON EVERYDAY. I HAVE HAD THE SENSOR LEADS CHANGED TWICE AND IT STILL COMES ON. MY AIR CONDITIONING WAS FINE UNTIL THIS SUMMER WHEN I NEEDED IT. ARE THESE CARS NOW DESIGNED TO BREAK DOWN AND BE UNRELIABLE JUST SO THAT THE DEALERS CAN CHARGE MONEY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND MECHANICAL REPAIR? I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND HOPE THAT YOU CAN SEE HOW DANGEROUS THIS CAN BE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE I WANTED A RELIABLE, DEPENDABLE VEHICLE FOR MYSELF AND CHILDREN, WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO RECALL THIS PROBLEM? WILL I RECEIVE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RECEIPT OF THIS COMPLAINT. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE HAZARD SWITCH BECAUSE IT DIDN'T ALWAYS WORK, IT DIDN'T ALWAYS ALLOW FOR THE TURN SIGNALS TO WORK EITHER. I DOUBT THAT THERE WERE ANY DEATHS FROM THIS PROBLEM, AND IT WAS RECALLED. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF A PROBLEM WITH A VEHICLE BEFORE IT WILL BE RECALLED. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE TURN SIGNALS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR APPROXIMATELY SIX WEEKS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP, BUT HE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THEM. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER RECALL 03V327000. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. HE HAS CHECKED THE FUSES AND THEY SEEM TO BE FINE. *AK UPDATED 12/27/2005 - THE CONSUMER HAS THE RECALL THAT WAS SENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL WORK. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION BECAUSE THE HAZARD AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 03V327000 (HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
LUCKILY I HAVE NOT HAD ANY ACCIDENTS WITH MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU. ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE IS THAT THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND IGNITION LOCK SWITCH MALFUNCTIONS. THIS CAUSES THE CAR TO NOT WANT TO START, AND WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WILL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE CHEVY DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT, AND IT COST ME $553.55 TO FIX THIS ONE PROBLEM, AND NOW MY LIGHTS DO NOT WANT TO WORK. *NM
DT: THE TURN SIGNALS QUIT WITHOUT WARNING, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS . THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO USE THE TURN SIGNALS AND WAS ALMOST STRUCK FROM BEHIND WHEN SHE REALIZED THE TURN SIGNALS WERE NOT WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS HAS NOT BEEN TO A DEALER YET. THE TURN SIGNALS COME AND GO OFF, SOMETIMES THEY WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE SHOP, WHO COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. NO EXPLANATION GIVEN AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THIS STILL REMAINED A PROBLEM. CAR HAS HAD A LEAK FOR A MONTH AND WHEN I FINALLY GOT IT TO A CAR MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD AN INTAKE GASKET LEAK AND THAT IT WAS VERY COMMON AMONG CHEVROLETS. THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD WAS THAT THE MANUFACTURE HAD DESIGNED A POOR GASKET AND THAT ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED THAT THEY CAME OUT WITH A MORE DURABLE GASKET. THIS REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT $700. WHY IS IT THAT IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT THE MAKERS RECOGNIZE THIS WAS A PROBLEM WHY IT IS THAT THE CONSUMER NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX A FAULTY OR DEFECTED ITEM? *NM
REPLACED HAZARD WARNING SWITCH DUE TO TURN SIGNALS NOT OPERATING. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2000 CHEVY MALIBU. MY VIN NUMBERS DID NOT MATCH UP. *JB
DT: ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TURN SIGNALS. THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT WAS CORRECTED BY THE CONSUMER'S HUSBAND WHO DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HAZARD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. HE RESEARCHED THIS THROUGH A REPAIR MANUAL AND CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE SWITCH. THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS SINCE THE REPLACEMENT. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN#03V327000 WAS ISSUED INVOLVING THE TURN SIGNALS, BUT THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO THE VIN. *AK (11/29/05) *SC
2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE EQUIPMENT.*MR THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE FIRST BRAKE SERVICE THEY WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AFTER THAT THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD IT WAS CONSIDERED WEAR AND TEAR. THE WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING. *JB
2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES.*MR THE BRAKE HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES, 24666, 37158 AND 49592 MILES. THE FIRST TIME THE MANUFACTURER FIXED THEM UNDER WARRANTY. THE OTHER TIMES THEY CLAIMED IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE LAST TIME THE BRAKES FAILED THE FRONT DISC PADS HAD WORN INTO THE ROTORS. *NM
DT: AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING BOTH DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDES WHILE CALLER WAS TURNING A CORNER AT 10 MPH. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET.*AK

MY ANTI THEFT DEVICE GOES ON EVERY TIME I TRY TO START THE CAR. I HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE I CAN START THE CAR. WAS DOING IT ONCE AND A WHILE AND NOW IT DOES IT EVERY TIME. *JB

THE CONTACT NOTICED THIS ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, AND IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. HE HAS NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO A DEALER. A MECHANIC TOLD HIM THERE WAS A RECALL 03V327000. GENERAL MOTORS TOLD HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU WITH CHRONIC BRAKE PROBLEMS. IN THE 5 YEARS I'VE OWNED IT, I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE SHOES AND SURFACE THE ROTORS EVERY YEAR (AND REPLACE ROTORS ONCE) BECAUSE OF A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT BRAKES. CHEVROLET REFUSES TO COVER THIS ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR UNDER WARRANTY AND REQUIRES THAT I PAY FOR THE REPAIR EVERY TIME.
TOOK MY 2000 MALIBU IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. WAS TOLD THE INTAKE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS LEAKING. COULD REPAIR IT FOR $825. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. WAS QUOTED $765. HAD DEALER FIX IT. BUT HAD TO USE THE "UPDATED" GASKETS. WHICH NEEDED "UPDATED" BOLTS.(APPROX. $40 EXTRA) WATER PUMP WAS LEAKING FROM WEEP HOLE. REPLACED. TOTAL COST $966.56. MY CAR HAD 51,XXX MILES ON IT. I FEEL THAT GM HAS HAD ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE INTAKE GASKETS LEAKING AND THAT THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AS THERE IS NOW AN UPDATED GASKET TO BE USED. WAS TOLD BY ONE SHOP THAT IS THE DEX-COOL EATS AWAY AT THE GASKETS. IF THE COOLANT IS GOOD FOR 100,000 OR 150,000 MILES. GM SHOULD COVER ANY DAMAGE THAT IS CAUSED BY IT WITHIN THAT MILAGE.

DT: CONTACT STATED THE HAZARD WARNING FLASHING SWITCH FAILED. THE FIRST TIME HE USED IT WITHIN 1 MINUTE OF TURNING THE FLASHERS ON. HE CITED RECALL #03V327000. GM TOLD HIM THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH WAS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT SIX WEEKS AGO. HAD THE SWITCH REPLACED. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS. *AK *JB
DT: THE RESERVOIR FOR THE COOLANT HAD A DESIGN FLAW WHICH CAUSED IT TO LEAK. IT CAUSED AN O-RING TO PULL AWAY AND LET COOLANT SPLASH ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. CONSUMER WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST 750 TO 1000 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO RUN HOT. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO PAY TO HAVE PROBLEM REMEDIED. *JB

THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BY AN INDIVIDUAL FOR MY SON AS A FIRST CAR. LOW MILES AND LOW PRICE. WHEN WE RECIEVED THE TITLE WE FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS A SALVAGE VEHICLE. MY SON BEING THE TEENAGER HE WAS JUST EXCITED TO HAVE FOUR WHEELS NEVER MENTIONED TO US THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WORKED INTERMITTINGLY. WHEN WE PURCHASED ANOTHER VEHICLE FOR MY SON FOR GRADUATION, I STARTED TO DRIVE THE 2000 CHEVY MALIBU AND NOTICED THE TURN SIGNALS DOING THIS. THEN I NOTICED THE HAZARDS WERE DOING THE SAME INTERMITTINGLY WORKING. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE CHEVY HOUSE TO GET THE PROBLEM FIX AND AT THE TIME FROM A FRIEND FOUND OUT ABOUT A FACTORY RECALL FOR CARS OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I WENT IN THEY SEARCHED USING THE VIN # AND SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP. APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR LATER I CALLED THE CHEVEROLET COMPANY. AT FIRST THEY GAVE ME A NUMBER AND A CODE FOR A SPECIAL POLICY COMPLAINT. THEN AFTER 25 MINUTES OF MY TIME HE INFORMED ME THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO FIX THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS A SALVAGE VEHICLE. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE BEING A SALVAGE VEHICLE. IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN WHY DO STATE DEPARTMENTS EVEN ALLOW THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD . I JUST NEED THE TURN SIGNALS AND HAZARDS FIXED SO NO INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL BE HURT AT ANY POINT. I CAN TAKE THIS VEHICLE IN FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ALSO SO IT CAN BE TESTED FOR THIS. I NEED THIS FIX BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE AT MY EXPENSE.

HAD HAZARD LIGHTS REPLACED 5 YEARS AGO, PROBLEM CONTINUES. WATER PUMP BLEW, INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDS REPLACED. DEX COOL PROBLEM CAR ALSO REFUSES TO START FROM TIME TO TIME, TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO DECIDE TO START. *TR
FUEL PUMP WENT BAD ON 06/01/05 ($583). WHEN SERVICE WAS DONE TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP, MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS LEAKING. TO REPAIR IT WILL COST $1300.
I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT THE "INTAKE IS LEAKING COOLANT" ON MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU AND THAT THE COST OF THE REPAIR WILL BE APPROXIMATELY $825.00. THERE ARE NUMEROUS ARTICLES OF OTHER MALIBU OWNERS ON THE INTERNET THAT EITHER CURRENTLY HAVE OR HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT WOULD SEEM APPARENT THAT THE INTAKE IS DEFECTIVE. THE MECHANIC HAS ADVISED THAT UNLESS REPAIRED, THE ENGINE WILL BE DESTROYED. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT HAPPENING ON A FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR? THE LOSS OF LIFE WOULD BE TERRIBLE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR MY 17-YEAR-OLD SON THINKING THAT I WAS PURCHASING A CAR THAT WOULD PROVIDE HIM SOME ADDED PROTECTION AND NOW I FIND OUT HE IS DRIVING A TIME BOMB. IN LIGHT OF THE NUMEROUS REPORTS, I WOULD LIKE CHEVROLET TO REPAIR MY CAR AT NO CHARGE TO ME.
THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS DEFECTIVE ON ALL 3.1 L GM ENGINES LIKE THE ONE IN MY 2000 MALIBU. GM DEALERS KNOW THAT IT ALWAYS LEAKS AROUND 70 K MILES, AND JUST KEEP TRYING TO REPLACE IT. EVERY MECHANIC IN THE COUNTRY SEEMS TO KNOW THIS FACT, AND MAKE ABOUT A THOUSAND FOR IT FROM EACH OWNER.
I PURCHASED MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU ON FEBRUARY 13TH OF 2003. ON FEBRUARY 27, 2003, THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WAS REPLACED . ON JULY 18, 2003, THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WAS REPLACED . ON FEBRUARY 18, 2004, OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED.ON APRIL 5, 2004, THE GAS TANK WAS PULLED DOWN TO CHECK SENDING UNIT AND ADJUST FLOATER. I WENT TO MY MECHANIC TODAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND MADE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT ON MAY 16TH, TO AGAIN HAVE THE SAME ADJUSTMENTS MADE THAT WERE MADE 1 YEAR AGO. IN TOTAL, MY OUT OF POCKET EXPENCES ARE $280.00 . SOME OF THE WORK DONE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I DID SPEAK TO SOMEONE AT CHEVROLET LAST YEAR AND SHE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS 5 YEARS OLD WITH NO RECALLS ON IT FOR THIS COMPLAINT SPECIFICALLY AND THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE ON HER END.

I NOTICED OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE MALIBU AND FIGURED I WOULD THROW MY TWO CENTS IN. I TO HAVE HAD TO DROP OVER $1000 DOLLARS INTO THE MOST DEFECTIVE CAR I HAVE PURCHASED THIS INCLUDES THE $200 PIECE OF JUNKS I BOUGHT WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER. MY LIST OF PROBLEMS. 1. COOLANT SYSTEM LEAK COST $700 NOTE: MECHANIC LAUGHED AND SAID THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IS THIS TYPE OF ENGINE. IN REVIEWING OTHER COMPLAINTS, THE ONE REALLY STANDS OUT. NICE I AM GLAD GM OWNS UP TO ITS PROBLEMS. 2. BRAKES CONSTANTLY NEED TO BE REPLACED WELL BELOW MILEAGE. GLAD GM SAVED A FEW BUCKS UNDER SIZING THE ROTORS. 3. WITHIN A YEAR THE FANS SWITCH (LEVELS 1,2) AND LIGHTER STOPPED WORKING. BOY GM IS SAVING LOTS MONEY NOW. 4. WITHIN THE PAST YEAR I HAD FUEL PUMP FAILURE, NOTHING LIKE TRAVELING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC DOING 75MPH AND CAR TOTALLY DIEING. BOY GM HAS MADE ONE QUALITY CAR. 5. THE LAST INSULT, MY FIRST AND LIKELY LAST GM PRODUCT IS WHEN I THOUGHT BOY I FINALLY GET SOMETHING FROM GM IN REGARDS TO ONE SMALL DEFECT, THE HAZARD SWITCH, I FIND OUT THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL. WOW NOT ONLY I AM OUT AT LEAST $1000 BUCKS ON PIECE OF CRAP PRODUCT, GM DOES NOT EVEN WANT TO GIVE A BONE TO HUNGRY MAN. WITH THIS TYPE OF PRODUCT IT IS NO WONDER GM IS LOSING MARKET SHARE FASTER THAN ANY OTHER AUTOMOTIVE COMPANY. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GM. CLEARLY THE ARE SOME SERIOUS DEFECTS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE GMS OWNERSHIP WITH DEFECTS.

THE AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING ON FAN SPEEDS 1 AND 2. AFTER PULLING OUT THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, I FOUND OUT HALF THE CIRCUIT WAS BURNED OUT. AFTER REPLACING THE RESISTOR, THE FAN WORKS ON ALL SPEEDS. I THREW OUT THE OLD PART. *JB

AFTER CHECKING WITH MANY SHOPS AND GM DEALERS (AND A CO-WORKER WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM TODAY)...IT IS A VERY COMMON DEFECT @ EVERY 40,000 MILES. IT COULD TURN OUT TO BE A VERY BAD DEAL FOR MANY CONSUMERS AND IT APPEARS THAT THE MANUFACTURER KNEW OF DEFECT FOR YEARS. JUST A HEADS UP FOR YOU. *JB
