THE TRUTH IS ALL I WANT IS MY SAFETY AND MY PROBLEM IS VERY SERIOUS +THE PROBLEM IS LISTED UNDER THE NHTSA DEFECT INVESTIGATION# EA02037 AND RECALL# 03V327000 WITH DATES OF RECALL FROM FEB 1ST 2000 - MAY 31 2001 MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN OKLAHOMA IN APRIL 2000 HOWEVER CALLING GM A REPRESENTATIVE OF GM NAMED [XXX] INFORMED ME THAT MY GM IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST AFTER 30 MIN OF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY I ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR NAMED [XXX] WHOM WAS NOT IN THE OFFICE AND IS SUPPOSED TO CALL BACK AND THEN I ASKED FOR THAT PERSON SUPERVISOR PRESUMABLY THE MANAGER AND I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT SPEAK TO THAT PERSON AND WHEN I ASKED FOR THAT PERSONS NAME I WAS TOLD THAT THE MANAGERS IT WAS AGAINST COMPANY POLICY TO GIVE OUT THE MANAGERS NAME AND ALSO AGAINST COMPANY POLICY TO GIVE OUT ANY LAST NAMES FURTHERMORE I WAS GIVEN INCORRECT INFORMATION ABOUT THE MANUFACTURING PLANT OF MY VEHICLE. I BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE MY CAR ON THE RECALL LIST IF I FIT THE DESCRIPTION ACCURATELY AND FALL IN BETWEEN THE CORRECT DATES IT IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD BECOME FATAL IF NOT FIXED VERY SOON. TURN SIGNALS STOP WORKING WITH OUT WARNING. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT FOUND RECALL NUMBER 03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH), BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE AS NOTED IN THE RECALL. HE STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS HAVE NOT WORKED FOR THE PAST TEN MONTHS. THE HAZARD LIGHTS BEGAN ACTIVATING BY THEMSELVES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT ORIGINALLY, BUT IS NOW CONSTANT. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 119,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, A LEAK WAS NOTICED UNDER THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE INTAKE GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
HAD A SPIN OUT ACCIDENT TRAVELING 55 MPH - 60 MPH, HIT A GUARD RAIL FRONT ENDED, SPUN AND HIT THE REAR END OF CAR ON THE SAME GUARD RAIL, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *NM
2000 MALIBU ENGINE GASKETS HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TS THE AIR CONDITION CONTROL HEAD WAS REPLACED. *JB
TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL DOES NOT WORK, I TURN ON THE HAZARD FLASHERS, THEN THE TURN SIGNAL WORKS. MY 1980 CHEVROLET MALIBU WAS MANUFACTURED OCTOBER 1999, SO I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL PURSUANT TO NHTSA #03V327000. WHEN I CONTACTED DEALER, I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM UNLESS I BROUGHT IT IN WHEN THE SIGNAL WAS NOT WORKING. SINCE IT IS INTERMITTENT, THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE UNTIL IT FAILS ALTOGETHER. I ASSUME THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE RECALL ON MODELS WITH A DIFFERENT MANUFACTURE DATE. *NM

TURN SIGNALS WON'T WORK AT TIMES AND SOME TIMES WHEN I USE MY FOUR WAYS, THEY WON'T EITHER AND WHEN I DO USE MY TURN SIGNALS THE FOUR WAYS COME ON. *JB
AS STATED BY OTHER COMPLAINANTS, I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY COOLING SYSTEM. AFTER LOSING MY A/C NOW I'M FACED WITH LOSING THE WHOLE ENGINE. MY CAR CONTINUOUSLY RUNS HOT THE SO CALLED DEXCOOL COOLANT KEEPS SQUIRTING OVER THE ENGINE AND READING OTHER COMPLAINTS I'M FACING EITHER INTAKE REPAIRS OR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT PROBLEMS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS NEITHER GMC OR OUR SO CALLED WOULD STEP IN AND PUT AND END TO THIS MESS. I GUEST LOBBYIST ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SAFETY OF AMERICA. *TR
2000 CHEVY MALIBU PASSLOCK ANTI THEFT SYSTEM- CONTINUES TO ACTIVATE WITH ORIGINAL KEYS WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO BE STARTED FOR 10 MINUTES SOMETIMES LONGER. HAPPENS 5-6 TIMES A MONTH. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. OCCASIONALLY, THE TURN SIGNALS DO NOT WORK AT ALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V327000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HAZARD FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS:SWITCH). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE COMING TO A STOP FROM 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE'S FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES, ALTHOUGH THE SEATBELTS WERE WORN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE FAILURE.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ALONG THE FREEWAY AND WITHOUT ANY NOTICE THE CAR WENT FROM HAVING A NORMAL TEMP TO RED LINING ON THE TEMPERATURE. I IMMEDIATELY SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN AND TURNED ON THE HEAT. AT THIS POINT NO HEAT CAME OUT AND SOON AFTERWARDS THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND DIED. I CRUISED IT OFF THE FREEWAY AND ONTO A SIDE ROAD. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND A PASSERBY WAS NICE ENOUGH TO STOP. I ENDED UP REFILLING THE COOLANT AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO WHERE I NEED TO GO AND RETURN HOME. I HAD REFILL THE FLUID LEVEL MULTIPLE TIMES. I TOOK IT TO A RADIATOR SHOP THAT STATED THAT THE SEALS ON MY ENGINE WERE LEAKING EXHAUST INTO THE FLUIDS WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. THEY STATED THAT CHEVY WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE DEXACOOL COOLANT IN THE VEHICLES AND THAT IT WAS EATING AWAY THE SEAL IN THE ENGINE. *JB
I STARTED MY CAR AND PUT IT IN REVERSE. ACCELERATOR STUCK AND WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR FROM MOVING OR REDUCE ITS SPEED. WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE AND NOT THE ACCELERATOR I RAN ACROSS TWO LANES OF THE HIGHWAY AND SLAMMED INTO A TREE. APPARENTLY I HAVE A TOTALED VEHICLE/MALIBU 2000. TROOPER DID NOT BELIEVE THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. *JB
WHILE GOING BETWEEN 45 TO 65 MPH THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS NOT SHIFTING OR ENGAGING RIGHT. I HAD TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER SHIP WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE OVERDRIVE ENGAGING AND TO GIVE IT MORE GAS. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE OFTEN AND NOW MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *NM
I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM BELOW MY CAR. IT HAS 76,000 MILES. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS ARE DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED THAT MANY, MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS. THIS IS A $1000 PROBLEM THAT I FEEL CHEVY HAS REFUSED TO RECALL BECAUSE AT $1000 A POP, WHO WOULD? *JB
CAR ACT AS IF ITS GOING TO START BUT CUTS OFF. I HAVE HAD TO SIT FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO START. THE THEFT LOCK SYSTEM LIGHT FLASHES ON AND OFF DURING THIS TIME ONCE IT STOP THE CAR SEEMS TO START AFTER THE FLASHING STOPS. THIS CAUSES ME TO BE LATE TO PLACES ALSO TO BLOCK GAS PUMPS AND THINGS . *JB
WE LOST ALL OF OUR ANTI-FREEZE THINKING WE LOST A HOSE. UPON TAKING IT IN TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC HE HAD TO REPLACE THE MANIFOLD INTAKE GASKETS FOR THE 2ND TIME. UPON SHOWING THE MANIFOLD TO A MECHANIC FOR GM HE FOUND A BUBBLE IN THE MANIFOLD WHEN IT WAS MOLDED. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SYSTEM THEFT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE LIGHT USED TO BLINK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO BE SHUT OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 30 MINUTES. CURRENTLY, THE LIGHT CONSTANTLY REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE IGNITION, KEYS, AND ALTERNATOR WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. UPDATED 10-07-08 *BF THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 10/09/08. *JB
HAZARD AND TURN SIGNAL WORKS INTERMITTENTLY, I FOUND THAT A RECALL ON MY MAKE OF CAR WAS ISSUED IN 2003, PARTS NO AVAILABLE TILL 2004, DUE TO LOSING MY HOME IN HURRICANE IVAN MY MAIL WAS MESSED UP FOR QUITE SOME TIME, I AM HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT WOULD BE COVERED. WE REPLACED BULBS AND FUSES BUT PROBLEM STILL THERE, I CAN TAP OR HOLD THE HAZARD BUTTON AND TURN SIGNALS WILL WORK FOR A MOMENT. THIS IS A 2000 MALIBU WITH APPR. 74,000 MILES. ALL WARRANTY WORK AND OIL CHANGES HAS ALWAYS BEEN KEPT UP, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MY CAR FALLS IN THE RECALL. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE HER HAZARD LIGHTS SERVICED DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE. AFTER THE HAZARD LIGHTS WERE SERVICED, THEY BEGAN TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE HORN HAS ALSO STOPPED WORKING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,894 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
I BOUGHT MY 2000 CHEVY MALIBU FROM ROD AND TY'S ALL STAR AUTO IN PUYALLUP, WA ON 7/5/05. I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY/REPAIR INSURANCE. I HAVE PUT OVER $600 OF REPAIRS INTO MY CAR, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT I NEED A NEW FUEL PUMP, WHICH IS ANOTHER $756.26 AND THE WARRANTY PEOPLE WILL ONLY PAY $425 FOR A SUBSTANDARD PART. I ALSO HAVE SOME WIRES I NEED TO HAVE REPLACED, THE A/C HAS NEVER WORKED, EVEN THOUGH THEY TOLD ME IT DID, THE CD PLAYER DESTROYS MY CDS AND SOMETIMES JUST WON'T PLAY THEM AT ALL, AND I HAVE A SQUEAKY SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING OR SUSPENSION ON THE FRONT END OF MY CAR. I PAID OVER $13,000 FOR THIS CAR WHEN IT WAS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAD 74K MILES ON IT (I GOT SCREWED) AND NOW ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARE COMING UP ON IT. THE EVEN CR*PPIER PART IS, I STILL OWE $9000 ON IT AND IT'S ONLY WORTH $2500 ON TRADE IN. WHAT THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS LEMON PIECE OF CR*P CAR? I'M SUPER ANGRY AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER AMERICAN CAR EVER! BY THE WAY, I CHECKED CARFAX AND 11 RECORDS CAME UP FOR THIS CAR! MY CAR WAS RUNNING HOT AND IT SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING UNDER THE HOOD, SO I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE SHOP TO HAVE FIX AND THE WORKER TOLD ME IT WAS A DEFECTIVE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS. IT WOULD COST ME CLOSE TO $850 TO FIX. THE PART ITSELF ONLY COST $89, BUT THE LABOR IS WHAT I WAS PAYING FOR. I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP FIXING THIS CAR ON A COLLEGE STUDENT BUDGET. AFTER TALKING TO OTHER MALIBU OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS I CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS A RECALL PROBLEM, BUT IT IS NOT. THIS IS NOT FAIR THAT THE COMPANY KNOW THEY SOLD DEFECTIVE CARS AND NOT PLAN ON DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *NM

IN ORDER FOR THE TURN SIGNAL TO WORK, THE HAZARD WARNING BUTTON MUST BE DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY THE SERVICE DEALER, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 03V327000, REGARDING THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE HEAT INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT, COOLANT AND WATER WAS ADDED TO THE RADIATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, UPON INSPECTION THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAD BEEN LEAKING. THE GASKET ALLOWED THE COOLANT TO LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVER HEAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SIGNAL LIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 03V327000, REGARDING THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING: HAZARD FLASHING WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED OFF THE ROAD EACH TIME AND IT RESTARTED AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED NO PROBLEM. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR AND A FUEL RELAY, IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. UPDATED 05/10/06
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU. AS MANY MALIBU OWNERS MY CAR HAS THE SAME ISSUES. BLOWER FAN DOESN'T WORK ON SETTING 1 AND 2, REAR SPEAKERS DON'T WORK IN COLD WEATHER, REAR TAIL LIGHTS DON'T ALWAYS WORK, WEIRD BRAKING ISSUES IN THE COLD, AND AIR CIRCULATION BUTTON CHANGES FROM CLOSED TO OPEN AUTOMATICALLY. THESE ARE JUST SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH THE CAR AND I THINK I FOUND THE ROOT CAUSE. THE WINDSHIELD RUBBER SEAL ON MY CAR WAS UNATTACHED FROM THE WINDOW OUTSIDE AT THE BOTTOM ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I FOUND OUT BECAUSE AFTER A HEAVY RAIN A LOT OF WATER WAS SHOWING ON THE FLOOR OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE WATER DAMAGES HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS. I FOUND WATER SITTING IN THE PLASTIC MOLDING RIGHT UNDER THE BLOWER FAN. WATER CORRODING THE ELECTRICAL CABLES ON THE FLOOR. WATER TRACKS OVER THE COMPUTER BOARD LOCATED UNDER THE GLOVE BOX. I'VE INFORMED CHEVROLET AND ASK FOR THEM TO CREATE A TSB BUT THEY DENIED MY REQUEST.*JB
1999 MALIBU V6 WITH 70,000 MILES. TURN SIGNALS HAVE BECOME ERRATIC. I REPLACED THE FUSE, AND IT WORKED, BUT AGAIN AT TIMES, THEY DON'T WORK, AND AT TIMES, THEY DO. NO REAL PATTERN. SOMETIMES, THEY WORK IN THE MORNING, SOMETIMES IN THE AFTERNOON, SOME TIMES, WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD, AND SOMETIMES WARMED UP. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER STARTING THE ENGINE A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS PRESENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE GASOLINE SOLENOID WAS LEAKING GASOLINE INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE GASOLINE SOLENOID. THE GASOLINE ODOR PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER SUGGESTED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL INJECTION, AND POSSIBLY THE ENGINE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 99V302000, REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET LEAK; BALL JOINT & FUEL PUMP; BRAKE PADS REPLACED 4 TIMES IN LESS THAN 3 YRS. *NM
I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN MARCH OF 2006. UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, I FOUND THAT THE TURN SIGNAL ONLY WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE HAZARD SWITCH DID NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. OVER TIME I HAVE FOUND THAT WHEN THE HEAT IS ON THAT THE TURN SIGNALS FAIL TO WORK WITHOUT SHIFTING THE HAZARD SWITCH AROUND, AND WHEN THE COLD AIR IS ON THAT IT WORKS DECENTLY. GM ISSUED RECALL 03043 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN 03V327000) FOR OVER 670,000 MALIBUS, ALEROS, AND GRAND AMS IN 2000-2001. HOWEVER, UPON VISITING THE DEALERSHIP THEY STATED THAT MY 2000 MALIBU WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IN LOOKING OVER THE VEHICLE HISTORY WE FOUND THAT THE HAZARD SWITCH HAD BEEN REPLACED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY BY THE FIRST OWN (WHICH IMPLIES IT WAS FAULTY), AND THE NEW ONE IS AT LEAST DYSFUNCTIONAL AS THE FIRST. EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM AND ITS CAUSE IS EVIDENT, THE DEALERSHIP FAILS TO REMEDY THE ISSUE. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE EXACTLY WHAT IS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ONLY OFFERED ME THE CHANCE TO CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TO SEE IF THEY CAN HELP ME. DUE TO THE FAULTY HAZARD SWITCH, I AM UNABLE TO SIGNAL WHEN MAKING LANE CHANGES OR TURNING. I AM UNABLE TO USE MY HAZARD SWITCH IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, OR WHEN MY CAR HAS TO BE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR INTERSTATE. *TR
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
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AN ODOR WAS DETECTED AND THERE WAS FLUID LEAKING ON THE GROUND FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BY RAISING THE HOOD, THERE WAS FLUID ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE MANIFOLD GASKET NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 03/28/06. *JB
FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON 2/01/06 - COST OF REPAIR $800. WHEN SERVICE WAS COMPLETED, GM MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET IS LEAKING AND CAUSING COOLANT TO MIX WITH OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR IS AN ADDITIONAL $1,000! WE HAVE NOT YET HAD THE PART REPAIRED DUE TO THE COST AND THE CAR HAS HAD LIMITED USE SINCE. GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS ALREADY AND STOP HAVING THE CONSUMERS PAY FOR THEIR LACK OF USE OF RELIABLE PARTS!! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR PROBLEM GIVEN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS LISTED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED IF THE GAS TANK IS NOT KEPT ABOVE HALF FULL, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY, AND WILL NOT START AGAIN UNTIL AT LEAST 5 MORE GALLONS OF GAS IS PUT IN THE TANK. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO CHANGED THE AIR AND FUEL FILTERS. THEY CAN NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AT THE TIME THE INCIDENT OCCURS. THIS HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN 10 TIMES WHILE DRIVING, AND USUALLY AT SPEEDS OF 60 MPH.
1. LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS LEAKING COOLANT. 2. HORN IS INOPERATIVE (2ND TIME). 3.HVAC KICKS OFF AND RECIRC. WILL NOT HOLD ITS SETTING. (ON-GOING FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS). *JB
THE INCIDENT IS THE FAILURE OF THE WATER PUMP, A SLAPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE, AT ONE POINT THE LEAKAGE OF COOLANT, AND ALSO THE OXYGEN SENSOR. ALL OF WHICH WERE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED BY THEIR MECHANIC EXCEPT THE OXYGEN SENSOR. HOWEVER, THE CAR STILL HAD A PROBLEM WITH IDLING AS THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AWAY FROM THE MECHANIC. MY HUSBAND HAD TO JUMP OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES, ON HIS WAY TO WORK AND THE CAR WAS STOPPED BY A POLE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT THE FIRST TIME THAT IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THE PROBLEM WERE JUST MASKED ONLY FOR US TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO THEM FOR THEM TO GET MORE MONEY OUT OF US. *NM
GM PASSLOCK (ANTI-THEFT) FEATURE MALFUNCTIONS WHILE STARTING A WARM ENGINE. ENGINE ALMOST NEVER FAILS TO START WHEN EITHER THE ENGINE IS HOT OR THE ENGINE IS COLD. RECENTLY, I HAVE HAD TO ABANDON A 2000 MALIBU ON TWO OCCASIONS FOR FAILURE TO START AFTER MULTIPLE "10 MINUTE WAITS" AND COME BACK THE NEXT DAY TO START THE CAR. FAILURE OF THE ENGINE TO START COULD RESULT IN INJURIES OR DEATH DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION AND LOCATION. CONSIDER AN ELDERLY PERSON THAT HAS TO ABANDON THEIR VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF A RURAL ROAD AT NIGHT AND HAVE TO WALK A LONG DISTANCE IN EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER. *JB
I WENT IN TO FIND OUT WHY I HAVE NO HEAT AND THE REPAIR GUY SAID THERE WAS ANTI FREEZE LEAKING ON TO ENGINE BLOCK. HE SAID THAT THE HEAD GASKETS AND THE INTAKE GASKET NEEDED REPLACING AND IT WOULD COST $1500. *NM
MY 2000 MALIBU RECENTLY DEPLOYED THE AIRBAGS WHILE CAR WAS PARKED AND ENGINE OFF. I CONTACTED POLICE THINKING THE CAR HAD BEEN HIT, ALTHOUGH NO DAMAGE WAS VISIBLE. THE POLICE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE AT ALL THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. I THEN CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE BLACK BOX AND THAT I WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED THE USE OF THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I WAS TREATED VERY RUDELY WHEN I COMPLAINED TO THE GM NATIONAL OFFICE REGARDING THE EXPENSE I WOULD INCUR FOR RENTAL CAR BECAUSE LOCAL DEALER WOULD NOT PROVIDE LOANER. BASICALLY, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I THEN WAS TALKING TO A MECHANIC AT A DIFFERENT SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MALIBU'S AIR BAGS DEPLOYING WITHOUT IMPACT OF ANY KIND. HE TOLD ME ABOUT A RECENT CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN OKLAHOMA OVER THIS ISSUE. BEFORE I SPEND THE $100'S OF DOLLARS TO FIX THIS, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *JB
INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAK..LOSS OF COOLANT..OVERHEATING ENGINE..HEATER MALFUNCTION SPORADICALLY. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES BUT ABATED SOMEWHAT AFTER SERVICE AT A RADIATOR REPAIR FACILITY RODDED THE RADIATOR TWICE ,FLUSHED AND REFILLED THE SYSTEM WITH NEW COOLANT AND INSTALLED NEW THERMOSTAT. MILEAGE WAS 39,500. *NM
WHEN I WENT TO THE STORE I NOTICED A SMELL COMING FROM MY CAR I PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM MY CAR. I OPENED THE HOOD TO COOL DOWN THE ENGINE SINCE I ASSUMED IT MIGHT HAVE OVERHEATED OR SOMETHING OF THE SORT AND IT WAS ONLY THE RUN OFF. I ADDED MORE FLUID (EVERYTHING WAS FINE) AND NOTICED THE NEXT MORNING IT LEAKED AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC (TO GET MY HAZARDS MODULE REPLACED SINCE THEY BEGAN TO START A FRITZ) AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE LOWER INTAKE GASKET AND WOULD BE $850, NOT TO MENTION HE REFUSED TO OFFER THE RECALL CLAIM BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ANY PAPERS. *JB
THE INITIAL PROBLEM WAS THAT THE CAR HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING AFTER THE CAR WAS WARM. WOULD USUALLY HAVE TO GIVE THE CAR GAS TO GET THE ENGINE TO TURN OVER. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT WAS THE LEAST OF MY PROBLEMS SINCE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WAS LEAKING COOLANT INTO THE OIL. THE COST OF REPAIRS FOR THE LEAKING GASKET WAS OVER $650 AND TOLD WAS QUITE COMMON IN 2000 MALIBUS AND IF THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CATCH ON FIRE OR DESTROY THE ENGINE. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. ALSO HAD TO REPLACE WIRES, PLUGS, IGNITION COIL AND FUEL FILTER WHICH WAS AN ADDITIONAL $475. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE WIRES, PLUGS, COIL AND FUEL FILTER AS USUAL MAINTENANCE COSTS, HOWEVER, THE LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET WHICH IS QUITE COMMON FROM BOTH YOUR WEBSITE AND CHEVY WEBSITE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED A POTENTIAL RECALL. OR INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBILITY OF SOME FUNDING BY CHEVY TO OFFSET THE HIGH REPAIR COSTS TO MANY OWNERS OF THE MALIBU WHO HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPAIRED. *JB
MY TURN SIGNAL, HAZARD LIGHTS WORK PERIODICALLY HAD THEM LOOKED AT AND WORKED ON AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS. *TR
