TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE GEAR WAS PLACED IN REVERSE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND POWER STEERING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (LOU BACHRODT CHEVROLET POMPANO BEACH, FL 33069 AT (954) 971-3000), BUT FAILED TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKES. WHEN TOUCHING THE BRAKES THE LIGHTS GO OFF AND HAVE ZERO BRAKE LIGHTS. THE TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON DASH WILL POP UP ON AND OFF.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTER CABLE CAME LOOSE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. PLACED THE CAR IN PARK BUT IT CONTINUED TO MOVE. CABLE IS MISSING CENTER PIECE (CLIP?) THAT HOLDS IT TO TRANSMISSION LEVER. THIS CAR WAS RECALLED AND "FIXED" FOR THIS CONDITION LESS THAN 4 YEARS AGO. OBVIOUSLY THEIR REPAIR IS INFERIOR......IF INDEED IT WAS DONE AS THEY CLAIM. ORIGINAL RECALL NUMBER IS 12V460000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU EQUIPPED WITH FOUR HANKOOK OPTIMO H727 TIRES, SIZE: 225/50R/18 (NA). UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD CRACKING AND TREAD SURFACE DILAPIDATION OF THE INNER EDGE. THERE WAS ALSO EXPOSED STEEL BELTS AND EVIDENCE OF BUBBLING. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER (APPLE BEES AUTOMOTIVE LOCATED IN FOX POINT, WI) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE APPEARED TO BE DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE ELECTRICAL RANDOMLY MALFUNCTIONS SOMETIMES THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS WON'T WORK AND THEY RANDOMLY COME ON OR GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING AND IT WAS ALMOST DARK OUT SIDE I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT A COUPLE TIMES BEFORE THEY CAME BACK ON. THERE IS A LEAK SOMEWHERE THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO OVERHEAT. THE MOTOR BLOWER FOR THE HEATING AND COOLING WILL ALSO RANDOMLY STOP WORKING. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BROKE AND AFTER REPLACING AND FIXING THE PART THEY BROKE AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CROWDED HIGHWAY IN THE POURING RAIN. I FIXED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS 2 TIMES AND THEY STILL CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION AND QUIT WORKING. THE EXAUHST HAS A LEAK. THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS AND DOESN'T SHIFT RIGHT WHILE DRIVING IT TAKES FOREVER TO SHIFT AND ONE TIME WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND WOULD BARELY DRIVE WHEN I WOULD GIVE IT GAS AND THE BRAKES WOULDN'T WORK IT WAS LIKE THAT FOR ABOUT 8 MINUTES BEFORE IT FINALLY STARTED TO WORK PROPERLY. THERE IS A PIECE THAT CONNECTS TO THE TRANSMISSION THAT KEEPS COMING UNDONE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND TRIED TO PUT IT IN DRIVE BUT IT WOULDN'T WORK AND I FIXED THE PROBLEM AND UPON ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION THE VEHICLE WENT INTO PARK BUT CONTINUED TO MOVE I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP IT. THE WARNING LIGHT FOR THE ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL STABILITY AND THE TIRES HAS BEEN ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE TURN SIGNALS RANDOMLY QUIT WORKING WHILE DRIVING WHEN I FIRST TURN THEM ON THEY DON'T WORK BUT AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS THEY START TO WORK. THE MID FLAP CAME OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK. THE PARTS AFFECTED IS THE ELECTRICAL, BODY, POWER TRAIN, LIGHTING, WHEELS, SUSPENSION, BRAKES, VISIBILITY/WIPERS AND THE ENGINE.
THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR KEEPS FAILING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE IN MOTION, RESULTING IN FAILED CRUISE CONTROL AND REVERSING MY BRAKE LIGHTS. WHEN THE SENSOR FAILS, THE CRUISE AUTOMATICALLY TURNS OFF, LIKE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED. WHILE ACTIVELY IN MOTION, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AS IF THE PEDAL IS ENGAGED, HOWEVER THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE ACTIVELY BRAKING THE MOVING VEHICLE. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WILL BE TRIGGERED AND SAYS "SERVICE ESC" WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR FAILS. MY LOCAL CHEVORLET DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE ISSUE SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2017, AND WILL NOT FIX IT. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH CHEVORLET DIRECTLY IN JULY 2019, AND WAS PROMPTLY DISREGARDED. THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED OVER 5 TIMES SINCE 2017.*DT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE REICHARD CHEVROLET DEALER LOCATED IN BROOKVILLE, OH TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WAVE PLATE LOCATED IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DEALER TOOK THE CAR IN AND SAID THEIR DIAGNOSTICS DID NOT SHOW ANY PROBLEM. I FOLLOWED MY WIFE HOME AND FOR THE LAST MILE THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON.
THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES TO ME NOW. I WAS HEADING HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET ON ABOUT 67 MPH AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE CAR STARTS COASTING. "ENGINE POWER REDUCED" CAME ACROSS THE COMPUTER DISPLAY. LIKE I SAID, THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. I COULD PULL OVER TO A STOP, SHUT OFF THE CAR AND IT WOULD RESET, AND THE CAR WOULD BE FINE FOR ME TO MAKE IT HOME. BUT THIS LAST TIME, THE CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AT ALL. I GOT THE CAR TOWED HOME, CHECKED THE BATTERY, THE CABLES, AND EVEN REPLACED THE STARTER , AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING.... STARTER WILL NOT ENGAGE TO TURN THE MOTOR OVER TO START.
HAD CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSTALLED LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND ENGINE CAME ON WITH SAME SENSOR CODE. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS GOING OUT CONSTANTLY AND HEADLIGHT BULB WAS REPAIRED 4 TIMES LESS THAN A YEAR. COST ME OVER 600 TOTAL ONE SERVICE WAS DONE FOR FREE BECAUSE IT WAS REPAIRED AND BLEW THE NEXT DAY. SO MUCH WORK AND BARELY DRIVE TO CAR TO AND FROM WORK ONLY 2 MILES. I PLAN TO MAKE A COMPLAINT TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR EXPLANATIONS IF NOT SOLVED OR REIMBURSED. THE VEHICLE STAYS IN THE SHOP MORE THAN USE. TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR REPLACES AND CAME BACK 2 WEEKS LATER. THE VEHICLE ALSO STALLED WITH MY CHILDREN ON A BUSY STREET WHERE A VEHICLE ALMOST STRUCK THE BACK SIDE MISSING MY DAUGHTER BY INCHES. UNSAFE VEHICLE AND TOO MANY MALFUCTIONS.
THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING ON ITS OWN AND I WOULD MOVE THE WHEEL AND IT WOULD STOP. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND WOULD HAVE LIKE A TICKING NOISE. THIS WEEK I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE WHEEL SHOOK AGAIN AND THEN IT LOCKED AND I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE IT. I WAS DRIVING! I GOT TO A RED LIGHT AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE WHEEL WOULD MOVE AGAIN. A LIGHT CAME ON AND SAID POWER STEERING EPS NEEDS ATTENTION. IT KEPT HAPPENING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND IT WAS SCARY BECAUSE THERE WAS TRAFFIC. I HAD TO DRIVE IT LIKE THAT BACK HOME BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL IN CORNERS. THAT CAN CAUSE A CRASH. ALSO, I'VE ALWAYS HAD ISSUES WITH THE SENSORS ON THE CAR. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FUSES OFTEN, DIFFERENT SENSOR LIGHTS COME ON IT KEEPS SAYING (ABS) AND THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED OFTEN BECAUSE OF AN ELECTRIC SHORT.

WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR DISPLAYED "OFF" AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. THE FIRST INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS AN INNER TIE ROD FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A TIRE ROD AND SWAY BAR MALFUNCTION. THE BRACKETS ON THE SWAY BAR WERE REPLACED, BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A THIRD INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A POSSIBLE RACK AND PINION MALFUNCTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT OF A RECALL AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A GENERAL MOTOR DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000.
MY 2010 MALIBU HEADLIGHTS WERE REPLACED FIVE TIMES IN A YEAR. I PAID OVER 1000.00 JUST TO HAVE A 15.00 LIGHT BULB REPLACED. SOMETHING IS HAPPENING BECAUSE IT OCCURS ONLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ONLY. THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF RECALL OR REIMBURSEMENT. AS OF TODAY. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO SPEND 200.00 JUST TO GO OUT AGAIN IN A WEEK. I AM DRIVING WITH ONE LIGHT BECAUSE I REFUSE TO FIX IT UNTIL GM DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS INSANE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO GET DONE IMMEDIATELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE CONTACT WAITED FOR FIVE MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND OPERATED NORMALLY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ANOTHER DAY. IN ADDITION, WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE JOLTED AS IF IT WERE GOING TO STALL. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (FELLERS CHEVROLET, 715 MAIN ST, ALTAVISTA, VA, 24517) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REBUILT OR REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN AN OPEN RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V460000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 152,000.
TAKATA RECALL.UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ESC LIGHT APPEARS, WITH A YELLOW BLINKING DASH LIGHT WARNING OF A CAR BASICALLY ON ROAD. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, (IN PARK MODE )RESTARTED AND IT DID IT AGAIN. THERE IS NO STEERING. ONE ANOTHER DAY, I STARTED CAR AND IT WAS FINE, HOWEVER DURING THE DRIVE MODE, CARS POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. IT IS ALSO NOTED AT TIMES, I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, FOOT ON BRAKE IN DRIVE MODE, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL VIBRATE LEFT TO RIGHT A BIT. I DO NOT HAVE HEAVY KEYS, IT IS ONE KEY.I CHECKED AND ALTHOUGH THE VIN IS NOT ON RECALL, WHICH IS CRAZY, THE CAR IS HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS AS CAMPAIGN#14E044000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR REVERSE WHEN PROMPTED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,017.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ESC AND TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS ILLUMINATED AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO OPERATE. IN ADDITION, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND TURNED OFF WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WAS FAULTY. THE CONNECTOR WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAULTY CONNECTOR WAS A DIFFERENT CONNECTOR ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,325.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN 2010 WITH 5 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. I FIRST REPORTED THAT THE TRANSMISSION OCCASIONALLY "BUMPED" WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD AROUND 30, 000 MILES. AFTER CHECKING OUT THE CAR, I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T SEE AN ISSUE. I REPLACED THE TIMING CHAIN APPROXIMATELY 90,000 WHEN I TOOK HER IN FOR HER 100,000 SERVICE. WITHIN 4,000 MILES OF THIS COMPLETE CHECK-UP AND VERY COSTLY SERVICE, THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT COMPLETELY ! I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IT THERE WAS A RECALL AFTER DISCOVERING THAT NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS HAD BEEN MADE ON THE MALIBU FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. I THEN CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY COULD OR WERE WILLING TO DO TO HELP OFFSET THIS COST ETC. THERE IS NO WAY THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD GO OUT COMPLETELY IN A 2010 VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 100,000 MILES ON IT THAT HAD JUST BEEN CHECKED OVER COMPLETELY BY THE DEALERSHIP. I REALIZE THAT MY CAR IS 7 YEARS OLD AND WOULD HAVE LOVED FOR THIS TO BE COVERED COMPLETELY, BUT HONESTLY, I WOULD HAVE SETTLED FOR A LITTLE COMPENSATION AND GENUINE CONCERN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AAMCO WHERE IS COST ME IN EXCESS ON $3,000 TO HAVE THE BROKEN WAVE PLATES REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED AGAINST MALIBU TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND SEEK RESTITUTION IF THAT IS A POSSIBLE OUTCOME.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT CONTROLS THE GEAR SHIFT THAT SHOWS IF I AM IN PARK, REVERSE, DRIVE, MANUAL DON'T WORK WITH THIS ISSUE AS WELL AS THE CONTROL PANEL BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL THAT SHOWS MY MILES PER HOUR, FUEL LEVEL, TEMPERATURE GAUGE, MILEAGE AND MORE. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY RISK AND I HAVE HAD MY PART FOR THIS ORDERED TWICE BUT THERE IS SO MANY OF THIS YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL CAR THAT IS NEEDING THEM THAT THEY ARE BACK LOGGED OUT SEVERAL MONTHS. I LIVE IN VALDOSTA GA AND HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND TOWN FOR THE LAW FIRM THAT I WORK FOR AND THIS CAR IS SO UNSAFE THAT I CAN'T DRIVE IT BC I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS STRANDED. CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I'M GOING SO I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES DO TO THAT AS WELL.

THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE SHOP AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED TWO OTHER TIMES WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE ANTI THEFT KICKS IN WHENEVER IT WANTS AND SHUTS OFF POWER TO THE CAR. NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT DOESN'T SHUT OFF.
POWER STEERING JUST RANDOMLY GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY...HEARD MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS WITH OTHER CHEVY MALIBUS...CAN BE DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE RPMS INCREASED; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE BUT AFTER MANUALLY USING DRIVER LOCK IT CAUGHT AND WORKED FOR CLOSE TO A MONTH BEFORE HAPPENING AGAIN AND NOW IT WON'T OPEN. BOTH TIMES HAPPENED PARKED AND CLOSING THE DOOR THE DOOR WOULDN'T LATCH SHUT, AFTER 2ND ATTEMPT TO CLOSE THE DOOR IT LATCHED SHUT BUT THEN WOULD NOT OPEN AGAIN.
THE POWER STEERING DISENGAGES RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. THE RESULTING EXTRA WORK REQUIRED TO TURN THE CAR, LEADS A CAR THAT IS INCAPABLE OF SAFE TRANSPORT BY MOST PEOPLE. I WAS ON A CITY STREET THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, PREPARING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND MAY OR MAY NOT BE PRESENT EACH TIME THE CAR IS STARTED.

CHEVY 2010 MALIBU: WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. AT THE SAME TIME THE CAR STARTED DINGING AND SAID CHECK POWER STEERING ESC OFF. I MADE IT TO A REST STOP WITH DIFFICULTY THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER STARTING THE CAR THE INDICATOR WAS OFF. I BEGAN TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE CITY STREET AS WELL. IT APPEARS TO DO IT AT RANDOM, SPEED NOR CONDITION SEEMS TO PLAY A FACTOR. I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR TO SAFELY PULL OVER, MAYBE NOT ACCURATELY BUT AT LEAST HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. HOW IS THERE NOT A RECALL??? I HAVE READ THE COBALT HAS HAD THE SAME ISSUE.

I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIT AND RUN BACK IN MARCH 2017 THE PERSON BACKED INTO THE PASS-SIDE OF MY CAR AS I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH DOWN THE MAIN ROAD , THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY FROM IMPACT , THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS NOT A TAKATA ISSUE AS THEY WERE REPLACED BY THE CURRENT RECALL AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHY THEY DIDN'T DEPLOY . THE ELECTRICAL ISSUE IS THE ONSTAR RESPONSE SYSTEM DIDN'T DETECT THE CRASH AND CALL FOR HELP- I HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTON TO GET HELP . THE CAR CAN NOT GET DIRECTIONS SENT TO IT FROM ONSTAR AND THE ELECTRICAL KEEPS FAILING/LOOSING POWER AND I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE BATTER AND ALTERNATOR BUT IT STILL DOES IT AND THE WIRES R FINE . DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM BUT SEEMS THEIR GUESSING AND I DON'T HAVE $1,200 AROUND TO DO IT . THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG SHOULD OF DEPLOYED AND THE ONSTAR SENSOR SHOULD OF DETECTED IT AND CALLED FOR HELP.
TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE A 2010 CHEVY MALIBU THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED INTO THE TAKATA RECALL. I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR TWO WEEKS AGO AND "SERVICE AIR BAG" CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. AFTER FURTHER INVESTING, GM NEVER ISSUE AN ACTUAL RECALL FOR THE 2010 CHEVY MALIBU. INSTEAD THEY CREATED A "MALIBU SAFETY PROGRAM" THAT ONLY INCLUDES 2010 CHEVY MALIBU ENDING IN THE VIN NUMBERS OF: A4100001 A4166698 AF100056 AND AF271265. MY VIN NUMBER ISN'T INCLUDED IN THIS LIST. THEREFORE I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. FOR AN ISSUE THAT IS OUT OF MY CONTROL.
ON MARCH 1, 2017 AT 28981 MILES, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, (NOT THE FIRST TIME). THE NEXT DAY, THE STABILITY CONTROL AND THE ABS LIGHTS BOTH ALSO CAME ON. IN BOTH OCCASIONS THE CAR WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 40 MPH ON A CITY STREET. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY CHARGED ME $153 TO GET A DIAGNOSIS.THEY WANTED ANOTHER $850 TO HAVE IT FIXED. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER SHOP THAT DID IT FOR $190. THESE WERE 2 SEPARATE PROBLEMS, ONE WAS THE AIRBAG LIGHT (A CONNECTION UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT), AND THE OTHER WAS A SENSOR IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL (THE STABILITY/ABS LIGHT).
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE POWER STEERING AND A WARNING CODE WILL DISPLAY ON THE DASH "SERVICE ESC" "SERVICE POWER STEERING". THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING OR WHILE PARKED. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK FOR A BRIEF TIME BEFORE FAILING AGAIN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
AT FIRST, WHEN STARTING VEHICLE, DIC WOULD DISPLAY SERVICE ESC AND POWER STEERING. TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WOULD USUALLY CLEAR THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, WHILE DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD RANDOMLY START MOVING AN INCH OR SO TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE SERVICE ESC AND POWER STEERING MESSAGES WOULD DISPLAY AGAIN, AND POWER STEERING WAS LOST. THIS STARTED HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN'T COMPLETE A TRIP WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING DROPPING OUT. RESEARCH SHOWS GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND MY VEHICLE WILL BE FIXED UNDER GM SPECIAL COVERAGE 15356, SINCE I AM UNDER 150,000 MILES. HOWEVER, I FEEL THIS IS HAPPENING TO ENOUGH TO WARRANT A GENERAL RECALL.
ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE INTO 65 MPH TRAFFIC AND RPM'S RED LINED AND I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND I ALMOST GET HIT FROM BEHIND WITH ON-COMING TRAFFIC. NO 3RD OR 5TH GEAR. ALSO, FOUND NO REVERSE ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET TO SAFETY. TURNS OUT TO BE A FAILED 3-5-R WAVE PLATE. SCARY STUFF WHEN YOU ARE RED LINING AND GOING NOWHERE! SENT INFORMATION TO CHEVROLET AS IT TURNS OUT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM (CRACKED 3-5-R WAVE PLATE) FOR 2008-2009 AND ALL THESE PARTS FAIL AT LESS THAN 100K MILES. TROUBLE I AM HAVING IS THAT CHEVROLET CLAIMS I DO NOT HAVE THE DEFECTIVE WAVE PLATE IN MY 2010, YET THE FAILURE IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE RECALL FOR EARLIER MODELS. $4000 LATER AND NO HELP FROM GM. YET, IF YOU GO ON LINE, TONS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME WAVE PLATE PROBLEM AT LESS THAN 100K MILES FOR CARS LATER THAN 2009. VERY UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS FORTUNATE TO NOT GET REAR ENDED BY A CAR IN MERGING TRAFFIC. OTHERS MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. GM NEEDS TO ADMIT THE TRANSMISSION DESIGN FLAW WITH THE WAVE PLATE AND RECALL ALL MALIBU CARS FROM 2008-2012 BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. MY CLAIM IS IF I HAVE THE SAME WAVE PLATE ISSUE AS THE RECALLED VEHICLES THEN EITHER I DO NOT HAVE THE NEW/IMPROVED WAVE PLATE SPECIFICATION OR IT'S AN INHERENT DESIGN FLAW. SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHT REMAINS LIT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY REGARDING A CONSTANT WARNING LIGHT INDICATING A MALFUNCTION OF THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG MODULE AND WIRING HARNESS. AT THAT TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THAT REQUIRED AIRBAGS.REPAIRS WOULD COST OVER $1100. NOTHING WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOSE POWER OF STEERING. THE POWER STEERING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ESC LIGHT. TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TURN THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL UNTIL LATER THAT DAY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPEN FOR THE LAST THREE DAY. SOON AS I START THE CAR UP AND DRIVE FOR A 3 MILES THEN THE POWER STEERING GOES AND IF I STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART, IT GOES AWAY FOR A MOMENT AND THEN COMES BAC. I THINK IT WENT OFF OR MAYBE IT WENT OFF WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF TO TRY AND RESET THE SYSTEM. WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING WHEN I WAS STARTING TO PULL AWAY FROM PARK, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT SEEMED FINE. NOW, THERE IS A GRUMBLING SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND WHEEL SHAKES A LITTLE. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON BUT I HAVE NOT HAD IT READ YET TO SEE WHAT CODES COME UP.
WHEN I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY, I FELT A SMALL JERKING TO THE LEFT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS STARTED ON FRIDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2017 BETWEEN DRIVING FROM ONE WORK PLACE TO THE OTHER. THERE WERE NO ISSUES WHEN DRIVING IT HOME. NO ISSUES NOTICED ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4TH WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS IN THE AM HOURS. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY JERKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ALL. LATER ON THAT SATURDAY NIGHT THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE AT A RESTAURANT. WE TRAVELED ON THE CITY STREETS HOME BECAUSE IT WAS ALMOST A STRAIGHT DRIVE HOME FROM THE RESTAURANT. IT WAS VERY HARD FOR MY HUSBAND TO STEER THE CAR ON THE WAY HOME. THERE WAS NO POWER ASSIST AT ALL. THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON OTHER MALIBU'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. NOT SURE IF I REALLY WANT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TOMORROW FOR WORK WITH THIS ISSUE. I DO TRAVEL ON THE FREEWAY IN THE MORNINGS.
CAR WAS SERVICED FOR A 2014 RECALL BECAUSE OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS OPERATING IN REVERSE (ON WHEN FOOT IS OFF THE BRAKE AND OFF WHEN BRAKE IS PRESSED), PROBLEM HAS RETURNED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE "FIX" THAT WAS APPLIED DURING THE RECALL WAS JUST A "BAND-AID" AND THAT THE BCM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. VERY UNSAFE CAR TO DRIVE SINCE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE TELLING THE DRIVERS BEHIND YOU THAT YOU ARE NOT STOPPING WHEN, IN FACT, YOU ARE STOPPING. WITH MORE AND MORE DISTRACTED DRIVERS ON THE ROAD, WHO RELY ON SEEING BRAKE LIGHTS IN THEIR PERIPHERAL VISION IN ORDER TO AVOID A COLLISION, THE DANGER IS INCREASED EXPONENTIALLY. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND WAS ASKED "WHAT DO YOU WANT US TO DO?", WHICH BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP ME. THIS NEEDS TO FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR GRAVELY INJURED.
