2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILURE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC GROMMET AND WIPER LINKAGE FAILED. *JB
DRIVING IN VERY BUSY CITY TRAFFIC AND I ALMOST WRECKED BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I DROVE IT HOME BUT IT WAS VERY HARD TO MAKE A TURN. THIS WAS VERY SCARY AND I PULLED IT UP ON COMPUTER AND I SEE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING THEY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND YEAR. IT COST ME $ 823.63 TO GET THE STEERING COLUMN FIXED AND RECALIBRATED. *TR
POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. POWER STEERING ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. LOSS OF POWER STEERING. *JS
CRUISE CONTROL FAILS TO ENGAGE OR EVEN INDICATE THAT IT IS ON WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON AND SET - BUTTONS ARE APPLIED. THE UPPER REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED SOMETIMES. *TR
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON EXPRESSWAY. POWER STEERING CAME UP ON DISPLAY AND STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND CODE STATED THAT STEERING COLUMN NEEDED REPLACED. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE CAUSE THERE WAS NO WARNING AND STEERING JUST FROZE. VERY LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR DOWN A CITY STREET AND THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR'S RPM'S WERE SURGING BACK AND FORTH. I DID MANAGE TO GET THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND GET THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CLEANED OFF AS HE SAID IT WAS DIRTY. NOW THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY IS GOING OFF AGAIN AND ITS BEEN ABOUT TWO WEEKS. I DON'T WANT THE REDUCED POWER TO HAPPEN WHILE I AM ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME (CT) FROM WORK (NY) WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING WASN'T WORKING THEN THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH BOARD WAS READING SERVICE ESC / POWER STEERING. THE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING UNTIL NOW WHICH MADE THE RIDE HOME SCARIER THEN EVER WITH NO POWER STEERING IT WAS HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS A REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ESC AND TRACTION WARNING INDICATORS. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED WITH THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000. *TR
THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK AFTER I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, STRANDING ME IN THE CAR. I ENDED UP HAVING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE FROM THE REAR DOORS. LATER THAT SAME DAY, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR OPENED, BUT THEN IT WOULD NOT SHUT AS THE DOOR LATCH APPEARED TO BE IN THE LOCKED POSITION, AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE DOOR TO CLOSE. THE CAR IS NOW BEING REPAIRED AT A GM DEALER AT A COST OF CLOSE TO $600, AND SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, THIS IS AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR ME. IT SEEMS THAT OPENING THE DOOR, ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY WOULD BE A BASIC OPERATING FUNCTION THAT I SHOULD REASONABLY EXPECT MY CAR TO PERFORM. I WANTED TO REPORT THIS IN CASE THEIR ARE OTHER CHEVROLET MALIBU OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND DIMMED DURING BRAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I HAD SLOWED DOWN TO GET OFF AN EXIT AND THE POWER STEERING WORD CAME UP ON THE DASH. *TR
THE POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING AND ACROSS THE INFORMATION CENTER SCREEN WILL SCROLL "POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION, SERVICE ESC". WHILE DRIVING YOU CAN FEEL THE STEERING WHEEL JERKING FROM SIDE TO SIDE, AND WHEN STOPPED YOU CAN RELEASE THE WHEEL AND VISUALLY SEE THE STEERING WHEEL JERK FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER ABOUT THE ISSUE, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF CALLS THEY HAVE RECEIVED ON OTHER MALIBU'S SHOWING THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COLUMN AND IT WOULD RUN APPROX. $900. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE IN THE MODELS 4-8 YEARS PRIOR TO MINE AND THAT THEY WERE ALLOWED TO FIX THOSE PER GM. IF THE ISSUE HAS HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE SAME MODEL OF CAR WHY WOULDN'T THAT FIX BE GRANDFATHER FOR FUTURE MODEL YEARS IF SUFFERING FROM THE SAME ISSUE? THE ISSUE I WAS TOLD IS FROM A FAULTY STEERING WHEEL ANGLE POSITION AND TORQUE SENSOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS A REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER AS THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 1V460000 (POWER TRAIN). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 143,700.
SO GM RECALLS THE STEERING ON 2004-06, 08, 09....I HAVE AN 2010 THAT HAS THE SAME ISSUE THAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE STEERING. I FORTUNATELY KNEW WHAT TO DO WHEN I LOST MY POWER STEERING DOING 70+ MPH ON I-39. I ENDED UP PAYING OVER $500 TO HAVE MY STEERING FIXED AND THAT IS JUST FOR ONE OF THE SENSORS...WHAT ABOUT A RECALL ON ALL THE CARS THAT HAVE THIS SYSTEM????? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AS THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING WARNING LAMP NO LONGER ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,500.
WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE ON MY 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU, THE INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAYED THE MESSAGE "POWER STEERING" AND SERVICE ESC" AND WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE THE CAR, IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 200 FEET IN A PARKING LOT, I REALIZED STEERING WAS TOO DIFFICULT AND DRIVING THE CAR WAS UNSAFE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND LUCKILY THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY WENT AWAY. HOWEVER, I HAD THIS PROBLEM REOCCUR AGAIN OVER 20 TIMES BETWEEN 2/2014 TO 4/2014. FOR MY OWN SAFETY AND FEAR THAT THE ISSUE COULD WORSEN AND APPEAR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING, I PROACTIVELY TOOK THE CAR INTO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER, WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED AND FIXED THE PROBLEM. HERE IS THEIR DIAGNOSIS AND FIX: CAUSE CODE: C0545 TORQUE SENSOR CORRECTIVE ACTION: REPLACED STEERING COLUMN I HAVE ALSO OPENED A CASE# WITH GENERAL MOTORS/CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND REPEATEDLY CONTACTED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND RESOLUTION AS OUTLINED IN THE RECENT 31MAR2014 (ELECTRIC) POWER STEERING RECALL FOUND AT THE FOLLOWING LINK: [ HTTP://MEDIA.GM.COM/MEDIA/US/EN/GM/NEWS.DETAIL.HTML/CONTENT/PAGES/NEWS/US/EN/2014/MAR/0331-POWER-STEERING.HTML ]. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE, HOWEVER, INDICATED THAT MY VIN NUMBER/VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR. I AM CONTACTING THE NHTSA TO INFORM THEM THAT VEHICLES NOT LISTED UNDER THE ABOVE RECALL, NAMELY THE 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU, POTENTIALLY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM/SAFETY ISSUE AND REQUIRE THE SAME REPAIR. I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA ENCOURAGES GENERAL MOTORS TO REASSESS THE VEHICLES COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL AND EXTEND THE RECALL TO ALSO INCLUDE THE 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU MODEL YEAR. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO ENTER INTO MANUAL MODE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE ELECTRIC STEERING MODULE AND SENSOR. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V153000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,696.
WAS DRIVING A CURVY ROAD WHEN A DIGITAL WARNING ON THE COLUMN SOUNDED AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO NEGOTIATE THE CURVE. I CHECKED WENT A GOT THE STEERING FIXED AT A DEALER SHIP AND THEN FOUND OUT THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE 2008-2009 MALIBU, THE 2009 AND 2010 HHR AND THE 2010 COBALTS BUT NOT THE 2010 MALIBU. *TR
OUR 2010 MALIBU STARTED HAVING THE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMING ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. AFRAID WE WILL LOOSE POWER AND NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE CAR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ON AND MY VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER STEERING. I PULLED OVER, TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN, POWER STEERING CAME BACK TO NORMAL AND LIGHTS WENT OFF ONLY TO COME BACK ON AND LOST POWER STEERING AGAIN. NOW I CAN HEAR A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS JERKING. I WILL BE CONTACTING GM ABOUT THIS AS I SEE THIS IS HAPPENING TO SEVERAL 2010 CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM TO NO AVAIL. NOT GOOD! *TR
STEEL WHEELS CRACKED BEHIND WELD FOR SECOND TIME CAUSING SMALL AIR LEAK AND LOW TIRE,WHEELS NEVER STRUCK ANYTHING AND WERE NEVER ABUSED. THIS ALSO HAPPENED IN 2011 TO ANOTHER OF THE WHEELS. *TR
THE VEHICLE IS A 2010 CHEVY MALIBU WITH LESS THEN 61,000 MILES ON IT. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LAST YEAR AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS WENT OUT ON IT 3 TIMES WITHIN A MONTH. ALL THREE TIMES I HAVE TAKEN IT TO AN CERTIFIED CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE SECOND TIME THEY FIXED MY TRANSMISSION THE STEERING SHAFT WAS LOOSE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS AFTER REPAIRS THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO OUT AGAIN. THE CAR IS NOT EVEN 5 YEARS OLD WITH 61,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS TRULY DISAPPOINTING, AND IT HAS COST ME MONEY AND TIME. *TR

BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WHEN NOT PRESSING THE BRAKES. CRUISE CONTROL TURNS OFF WITHOUT TAPPING THE BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL SAYS IT NEEDS TO BE SERVICED . I CYCLE POWER TO THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN COMES BACK ON. THIS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AS THE LIGHTS TURN OFF WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED . *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT WHEN MY CAR STALLED. THE CABIN STARTED FILLING UP WITH SMOKE. THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK. THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN. THE LOCKS WOULD NOT WORK. THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE TRUNK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUSE BOX IN THE TRUNK WAS MELTING THE JUNCTION BOX AND MAIN BODY HARNESS. MY INSURANCE COMPANY PICKED UP THE CLAIM AND MADE REPAIRS. THERE IS NOW A RECALL ON THESE CARS FOR THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING SENSOR IS BAD AND TO REPAIR IT THEY SAY THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR AND WOULD BE BAD IF THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING. SO FAR THE STEERING HAS ONLY FAILED WHEN SHE STARTED THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN THREE DAYS. *TR
TRAVELING APPROX 40MPH, ESC SENSOR WENT OFF AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT AS I WAS BEGINNING A RIGHT HAND TURN. TURNED OFF THE CAR AT THE NEXT STOP LIGHT AND RESTARTED, SERVICE ESC LIGHT AND POWER STEERING WERE BACK TO NORMAL. CONTINUED TO HAVE THE INTERMITTENT ISSUE THROUGHOUT THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO NOW WHERE IT STAYS ON. CAR IS STILL FUNCTIONAL, BUT TURNING IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND WOULD BE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOME PEOPLE. GM SERVICE IS $900 FOR A NEW POWER STEERING MOTOR + LABOR. I GENERALLY AM WILLING TO PAY TO GET SERVICE, BUT ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR MANY YEARS AND MANY MODELS OF GM VEHICLES. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE WARRANTIED/RECALLED OUTSIDE OF BUMPER TO BUMPER AS IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF IT WERE TO GO OFF AND BE THE CAUSE OF ANY ACCIDENT. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, IT HAS WARRANTIED IN THE PAST BASED ON THE MALIBU FORUM INFORMATION (2008 AND PREVIOUS). *TR

WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHERE WE BOUGHT IT BILL JACOBS CHEVROLET IN JOLIET ILLINOIS AND THEY SAID THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND GM REFUSED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. IT HAD JUST OVER 40,000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND GM SWEPT THE PROBLEM UNDER THE TABLE..OH,BY THE WAY THEY DID CHARGE US 1,200 DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT. *TR
I WAS BACKING UP FROM THE STORE AND I HEARD A TRACTION NOISE DOING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, IT GOT WORSE STIFFER AND STIFFER TO STEER , I HAVE 2 CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME SCARE TO DEATH TO HIT SOMETHING!, MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY CHARGED US 520 DOLLARS WITH A DISCOUNT THEY SAID. SO UPSETTING BECAUSE IT IS A 2010 MALIBU ONLY 49000 MILES , DOING SOME RESEARCH I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN CARS RECALL FROM GM FROM THE SAME PROBLEM!!! ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DIE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! SO UPSET! *TR
IN JANUARY OF 2014 , MY FATHER NOTICED THERE WAS A HUGE DARK SPOT ON MY SIDE OF THE DRIVE WAY. SO LATER IN THE DAY I TAKE MY CAR TO VALVOLINE AND THEY LET ME KNOW THAT MY CARE IS LEAKING OIL. I TAKE THE CAR TO SALLAS AUTO SHOP AND THEY TELL ME THAT MY CARS AXEL SHAFT HAS A LOT OF PLAY, WHICH IS CAUSING THE AXEL SEAL TO LEAK, WHICH SHOULDNT BE THE CASE BECAUSE IT WAS REPAIRED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR. THEY DEEM MY CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY HAVE ME LEAVE MY CAR AT THE SHOP SO THEY CAN FIX IT. NOT EVEN A WEEK LATER ITS LEAKING AGAIN SO I TAKE IT BACK TO THEM AND THEY CANT REALLY FIGURE OUT WHY ITS STILL LEAKING SO THEY DO A FULL BODY INSPECTION AND FIND THAT, NOT ONLY HAS IT BEEN LEAKING BUT ITS BEEN SHOOTING SHRAP METAL INTO MY TRANSMISSION(CAUSING ME TO LATER HAVE TO ACTUALLY REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION). SO I TAKE MY CAR BACK TO THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM AND HE TRIES TO FIX IT AND CLAIMS HE STOPPED THE LEAK. NOT TRUSTING HIS SKILLS I FINALLY TAKE IT TO CHEVY AND AFTER HAVING IT "FIXED" SEVERAL PRIOR TIMES, CHEVY ACTUALLY FIXES IT THIS TIME AROUND. APPARENETLY THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL THAT HAS TO BE USED TO REPAIR THIS PARTICULAR PART THAT NOT A LOT OF MECHANICS HAVE, BUT CHEVY DOES. IVE DONE MY RESEARCH ONLINE AND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A FEW OTHER PEOPLE, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. BECAUSE OF THE LEAK MY CAR WAS DEEMED UNDRIVABLE FOR PREVENTION OF AN ACCIDENT, I WAS OUT OF A CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AS WELL AS THE COSTS OF GETTING THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED. *TR
THE DRIVER HEATED SEAT BEGAN SMOKING AND LEFT A BURN HOLE IN MIDDLE BACK REST OF SEAT. *TR
ON JAN 15, 2014, AT 2PM, WHILE DRIVING 55MPH ON A DRY ROAD, THE DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED A WARNING OF "ICE POSSIBLE". OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES AT THE TIME WERE IN THE HIGH 30'S. THE NEXT DAY, JAN 16, 2014, AGAIN AROUND 2PM WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55MPH ON A DRY ROAD, THE DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER DISPLAYED A WARNING OF "ICE POSSIBLE" FOLLOWED BY A WARNING OF "ABS FAILURE" AND THEN IMMEDIATELY BY A "LOW POWER" WARNING MESSAGE. WITHIN SECONDS OF THE LOW POWER WARNING THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE DASH BOARD DISPLAY WENT BLACK, NO FLASHERS, TURN SIGNALS, OR LIGHTS. STEERING AND BRAKES WERE FUNCTIONAL BUT WITHOUT POWER ASSIST. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE DURING FOUR ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE CAR. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF ANY POWER AVAILABLE. THE KEY WAS REMOVED AND RE-INSERTED AND WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED TO START EVERYTHING WORKED NORMALLY. WE DROVE IT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. *TR
THE 2010 CHEVY MALIBU ( AND OTHER VEHICLES SIMILARLY EQUIPPED) WERE MANUFACTURED WITH DEFECTIVE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. THIS HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED BY THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLE OWNERS. THESE DEFECTIVE ACTUATORS WILL FAIL AND BEGIN CYCLING WITHOUT ANY INPUT BY THE VEHICLE OPERATOR. A TYPICAL VEHICLE WILL BE LOCKED BY THE OPERATOR USING THE KEY FOB AND WHEN THE OPERATOR RETURNS, THE DOORS WILL HAVE BEEN UNLOCKED ESSENTIALLY BY THEMSELVES. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR PERSONS TRAVELING THROUGH HIGH CRIME AREAS THINKING THE DOOR IS LOCKED AND THE DOOR HAS UNLOCKED BY ITSELF. CARJACKERS ARE NOT DETERRED BY AN UNLOCKED DOOR. ALSO, IT PLACES THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER OF BEING PARTIALLY EJECTED IN A ROLL-OVER ACCIDENT DUE TO THE UNLOCKED CONDITION OF THE DOOR WHICH HAS UNLOCKED ITSELF, AGAIN, WITHOUT ANY ACTION BY THE OPERATOR OR PASSENGER. THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS WERE INSTALLED AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURE AND GM DEALERS ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO CHARGE $300 TO $500 PER DOOR TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ACTUATORS. THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE REGARDING AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE OVERALL VEHICLE SAFETY WHICH SHOULD LAST LONG AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE HAS ONLY 56,000 MILES ON IT AND THE DEFECTIVE ACTUATORS ARE ALREADY MALFUNCTIONING. THERE ARE MANY THOUSANDS OF GM CONSUMERS WHO ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL ALL GEN 7 MALIBU AND ANY OTHER GM VEHICLES WHICH WERE EQUIPPED WITH THESE DEFECTIVE ACTUATORS. GM SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE FACTORY ACTUATORS WITH NON-DEFECTIVE REPLACEMENTS AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON OUR WAY HOME FROM CHURCH MY WIFE AND I AT 45 MPH WHEN WE LOST THE POWER STEERING IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT NOTICE.THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TRAVELLING SOUTH ON A 4 LANE ROAD THAT HAS A TURN LANE IN THE MIDDLE. MY 2 RIGHT LANES WERE STOPPED SO I PROCEEDED INTO THE TURN LANE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE MY LEFT TURN A CAR CAME ACROSS THE STOPPED LANES AND PROCEEDED TO PULL I FRONT OF ME TAKING OFF THE ENTIRE FRONT OF MY CAR. I WAS TRAVELING APPROX. 30-35 MPH, THE ROADS WERE WET AND SLUSHY FROM A RECENT SNOW STORM. SUDDENLY I LOST ALL POWER TO STEER....CAR DID NOT STALL, I WAS JUST UNABLE TO STEER. I ATTEMPTED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO STEER CORRECTLY....I WENT INTO THE SNOW. I SUFFER FROM A NEURO-MUSCULAR DISEASE (MS) SO I HAVE LIMITED ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I PROCEEDED TO TURN OFF THE CAR, WHEN I RESTARTED IT, THE FAULT MESSAGE ON THE DASH DISAPPEARED AND THE POWER STEERING RETURNED. I WAS ABLE TO BACK THE CAR OUT AND CONTINUE TO A SAFE PLACE TO PARK. TODAY I PUT A CALL INTO THE DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE CAR TO SEE IF THEIR HAD BEEN SOME SORT OF RECALL ON THE POWER-STEERING COMPONENTS. MY NEXT CALL TOMORROW WILL BE TO CHEVY. I LIVE IN A SNOWY PART OF THE COUNTRY AND I FIND THIS VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND I SEE MANY OTHERS WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD MANY ISSUES WITH THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS/ACTUATORS ON MY 2010 CHEVY MALIBU AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED NOW 3 TIMES. WHEN THIS OCCURS MY CAR SEEMS TO SURGE AND SOUNDS LIKE IT IS GOING TO TURN OFF. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN JANUARY, 2014. I WAS AT A BUSY INTERSECTION AND WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO DIE RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF TAKING OFF. SOMEHOW I MADE IT A FEW MORE MILES DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO PULL OVER. I PAID TO HAVE THIS FIXED. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS IN JULY, 2015. I WAS 6 STATES AWAY FROM HOME AND AGAIN WAS AT A BUSY INTERSECTION WHEN IT BEGAN TO SURGE AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE. WE MADE IT TO AN AUTO STORE WHERE THE SPARKS PLUGS WERE CHANGED AND THANKFULLY, WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. HOWEVER, AFTER BEING HOME 1 WEEK, I NOTICED THE SURGING AGAIN AND TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS WERE REPLACED AGAIN. UPON LEAVING THE MECHANIC'S SHOP I KNEW IT STILL WASN'T FIXED BECAUSE I COULD STILL FEEL IT SURGING. A WEEK LATER I TOOK IT TO A CHEVY DEALER WHO TOLD ME I NEEDED THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED AND A NEW SET OF CAM SHAFT ACTUATORS WERE PUT ON THIS TIME. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE MECHANIC AND THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CAM SHAFT/ACTUATORS AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL PUT IN PLACE.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN MAIN STREET IN OUR TOWN AFTER JUST WASHING OUR 2010 MALIBU AND THE CAR STARTED TO LOOSE POWER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO RUN ROUGH AND STARTED TO REDUCE POWER. WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT CAME ON, THE SERVICE ESC, SERVICE TRACTION, AND ENG PWR SHOWED UP ON THE DISPLAY. I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. IT TOOK ABOUT 5 MINUTES FOR THE CAR TO RUN CORRECTLY AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND THE CODE P2135 WAS SHOWING. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAD HAPPENED. THE OTHER TIME WAS ON 10/01/2013 WITH 69,193 MILES ON IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY PUT SOME DIELECTRIC GREASE ON SOME CONNECTORS. I CALLED THE CHEVY DEALER AGAIN TODAY FOR ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. *TR
