MY SILVERADO MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN YOU TAKE OFF FROM A DEAD STOP. *JB
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LOST BRAKES DUE TO THE FLEX PIPE RUBBING THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. *TS FEBRUARY 2001 THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL FOR CLEARANCE CONDITION BETWEEN THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE PIPE AND THE BODY CROSS SILL (00V345000). ON OCT 14, 2003 THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD 75155 MILES. ON NOV 9, 2005 ANOTHER RECALL WAS RECEIVED IN REFERENCE TO RUST ON THE FRONT WHEEL SENSORS (05V379000). AFTER REPAIR AND LESS THAN 100 MILES LATER THE BRAKES FAILED DUE TO THE FLEX PIPE RUBBING THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD TO BE ADJUSTED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT WHEN THE RECALL WORK WAS DONE SOME HOW THEY GOT THE FLEX LINE AGAINST THE WHEEL CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE CONSUMER IS CONVINCED THAT THE DEALER NEVER DID THE RECALL FOR THE RIGHT BRAKE PIPE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THIS ONLY OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V155000 REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE MODEL AND VIN. 05/30/06 UPDATED - FUEL PUMP AND LEAKING FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR WERE REPLACED. *TT
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE ROTORS WERE CORRODED. ALL FOUR ROTORS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE PADS WERE NOT MAKING FULL CONTACT WITH THE DISCS. THE CONTACT FELT THE BRAKING WAS NOT AFFECTED BUT COULD DECREASE IN THE FUTURE. THE VEHICLE HAD A 4-WHEEL ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 08/22/06 TO HAVE A RECALL PERFORMED REGARDING THE ABS SYSTEM, BUT WAS NOT COMPLETED BECAUSE THE DEALER NOTIFIED THE CONTACT THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. UPDATED 09/13/06
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL, BUT IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE CONTACT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE TWICE. *AK UPDATED 1/19/2006 - THE ABS ACTIVATED AT SLOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE L. FRONT HUB/SENSOR. *NM
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, MEANING FAIR WEATHER AND DRY ROAD SURFACE, THE SERVICE BRAKES WERE APPLIED RATHER FIRMLY. A VEHICLE HAD STOPPED SUDDENLY TO AVOID A COLLISION AND HAD DONE SO RATHER ABRUPTLY. AFTER THE SERVICE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DISENGAGED THE BRAKES REPETITIVELY AND DID NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO SLOW SUFFICIENTLY. DRIVER HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID A COLLISION. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE (UNDER $200 SO A POLICE OFFICER WHO OBSERVED THE INCIDENT REFUSED TO FILE A REPORT), AND THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. I CALLED A LOCAL GM SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ASKED AS TO THE TIME FRAME OF THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I HAD SEEN A REFERENCE TO IT ON THE NATIONAL NEWS IN SEPTEMBER. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR THERE WAS A NOTICE ON THE NATIONAL NEWS IN REFERENCE TO THAT EXACT ISSUE. HE THEN CHANGED HIS STORY AND CLAIMED THAT IT WAS ONLY A RECALL IF I LIVED IN THE NORTHERN STATES WHERE THE DOT USES SALT ON THE HIGHWAYS. I LIVE IN TENNESSEE WHERE THE LOCAL DOT USES EXCESSIVE SALT ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE MERE MENTION OF A POSSIBLE DUSTING OF SNOW. AND YET, THE "RECALL" IS NOT IN EFFECT IN MY STATE. I DECIDED TO LOOK FOR MYSELF AT THE RECALL NOTICE AND FOUND THIS FARCE OF A RECALL NOTICE. I MUST ASK, WHY IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT COULD CAUSE A MAJOR MALFUNCTION IN THE SAFETY MECHANISMS OF A VEHICLE ONLY LOOKED AT IN CERTAIN STATES? THE ANSWER I EXPECT TO GET IS THAT THE DOT DOES NOT USE SALT ON THE ROADS IN THE SOUTH, A BLATANT LIE. SO, AS FOR THE CORRECTIVE ACTION, I CAN DO NOTHING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BRAKES, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, OR MY TRUCK. THE SERVICE ADVISOR THEN TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD LEARN HOW TO DRIVE AND TO HAVE A NICE DAY. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING ABS BRAKES. HE HAD RECALL REPAIRS PERFORMED, BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SERVICE DEALER SAID THEY DID WHAT WAS REQUIRED ON THE RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALER CLAIMED THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BEING LOW. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THE SERVICE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL SERVICE AS INDICATED ON THE NOTICE. *AK UPDATED 12/7/2005. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP BETWEEN 4-10 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CLAIMED THEY CLEANED THE ABS SENSOR . WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS LEAVING THE DEALER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FIRST DEALER NEVER CLEANED THE LEFT SENSOR. SINCE THE LEFT SENSOR HAS BEEN CLEANED THE BRAKES WORK PERFECTLY. *NM
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES SYSTEM FAILED DO TO CORROSION, DO TO THE SALT USAGE FOR SNOW & ICE CONTROL IN THE STATE OF MINNESOTA. THEY WOULD ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS, AND BY THE TIME I GOT THE DEALER TO GET IT REPAIRED I ALMOST HIT A BUILDING AND A VEHICLE COULDN'T STOP IN TIME. THE PARTS WHERE REMOVED, CLEANED, CONDITIONED AND PUT BACK ON THE VEHICLE. CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000. *JB
BRAKE ROTORS ON 2000 AND UP CHEVY PICKUPS RUST OUT AND CHIP OFF CUTTING BRAKE PADS WITHOUT WARNING. *JB
DT: THE CONTACTRECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING ABS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND HAD THE WORK PERFORMED. THE ABS IWAS STILL ACTIVATING, THEREFORE, THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN CORRECTED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER, THE RECALL DID NOT COVER THIS, AND IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. *AK
EXTENSIVE FRAME RUST FROM MIDDLE OF SHACKLES IN REAR TO THE BACK BUMPER. CROSS MEMBER FAILING AND SEVERAL BRAKE LINES RUSTING AND NEED REPLACED. VEHICLE HAS 64,000 MILES ON IT. GOOD MAINTENANCE KEPT. CORNER PANELS RUSTING ALONG WITH BOTH REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLIES AND BRAKE DUST COVERS HAVE RUSTED OFF. SPARE TIRE CABLE AND MECHANICAL MECHANISM TO LOWER AND RAISE THE TIRE ARE RUSTED. SHACKLE MOUNTS ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH THE FRAME AND ARE IN DANGER OF COMING OFF. HAD TO WELD A BRACE ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT REAR FRAME TO PREVENT FAILURE IN THAT AREA SO THAT VEHICLE IS SOMEWHAT SAFE TO DRIVE. DAMAGED STARTED TO OCCUR AROUND 2005 AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. VEHICLE DOES SIT FOR LONG DURATIONS IN MY YARD. *TR
DURING LOW SPEED STOPPING THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND STOPPING DISTANCE IS GREATLY INCREASED. SYMPTOMS SOUND IDENTICAL TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V379000 THAT IS SUPPOSEDLY TO OCCUR ONLY IN SALT BELT STATES. *JB
PROBLEM: ABS BRAKE ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEED. IT TAKES LONGER TO STOP CAUSING SAFETY CONCERNS HERE. BROUGHT IN TO SHOP AND THEY THOUGHT COULD FIX THE PROBLEM BY REMOVING AND CLEANING SENSORS AND SURROUNDING AREA DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST BUILD UP. THEY WOUND UP REPLACING BOTH SENSORS. A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. I AM AWARE OF YOUR RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT GM SAYS MY VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER DATE. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN GM'S RESPONSE. *JB
ON 17 OCT 05, I WAS REQUIRED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR ROTORS AND ASSOCIATED BRAKE PADS ON MY 2000 CHEV SILVERADO TRUCK. THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, IS NOT ROUTINELY EXPOSED TO CORROSIVE ROAD CONDITIONS, AND ALL 4 ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY EATEN BY RUST. IN FACT, THE ROTORS INDICATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS REDUCED TO LESS THAN 40% OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN BRAKING CAPACITY. THE ROTORS ARE HEAVILY CORRODED AND PITTED WITH RUST. THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO BE RESURFACED. CHEVROLET WAS CONTACTED AND, TO DATE, HAS DISPLAYED LITTLE OR NO INTEREST IN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY DEALERSHIP INDICATES THAT THIS IS A KNOWN, ON-GOING PROBLEM. SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF GM VEHICLES APPEAR TO BE ON THE ROAD WITH VASTLY REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY DUE TO THIS METAL DEFECT IN THE BRAKE ROTOR SYSTEM. *NM
DT:THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS BRAKES ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE SENSORS WERE BAD. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT NOT FOR THE STATE THAT THE CONTACT LIVED IN. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT, AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT IN CANADA AND WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - *NM
DT: CONTACT STATED THAT ONE OF THE GAS TANK STRAPS THAT SECURE THE TANK TO THE VEHICLE RUSTED. THE SENDING UNIT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY IN SHOWING HOW MUCH GAS WAS IN THE TANK. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF A WIRE WAS LOOSE AND FOUND THE STRAP RUSTED. DEALER ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PART AT CONSUMERS EXPENSE. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. *AK WHEN THE CONSUMER WENT TO REPLACE THE GAS STRAP, HE NOTICED THE OTHER STRAP WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BREAKING. UPDATED 11/29/05. *JB
MULTIPLE TIMES HAS MY ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED AT SLOW SPEEDS. THIS HAS CAUSED NEAR MISS CRASHES AT VARIOUS INTERSECTIONS AND PARKING LOTS . *NM
FAILURE OF 3 BRAKE COMPONENTS WITHIN 3 1/2 MONTHS, INCLUDING REPLACEMENT OF ALL 4 ROTORS DUE TO THEIR HAVING RUSTED OUT, 2 FRONT ABS SENSORS, AND IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER WE ARE ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED OUT (NOT YET REPLACED); NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WILL DISCUSS WITH US, STATE THAT THIS IS ENVIRONMENTAL, NOTWITHSTANDING THAT OUR OTHER (AND OLDER) VEHICLES HAVE NEVER HAD ANYTHING LIKE THIS; WE HAVE BEEN STONE WALLED BY THE DEALER AND GM. TRUCK IS PRESENTLY INOPERABLE DUE TO NO BRAKES! NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS ACTIVATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. HE FELT A PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE TWO REPAIRS DONE TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM . ONE REPAIR CONSISTED OF CLEANING THE ABS SENSORS. THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. DURING THE SECOND REPAIR THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS SENSOR SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 FOR THE ABS BECAUSE HE DID NOT LIVE IN THE STATES THAT WERE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. *AK UPDATED 12/07/05. *JB
STATE SAFETY INSPECTION- PARKING BRAKE FAILURE, 158.24 REPAIR. PARKING BRAKE PADS. MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET AND GM PICKUPS OF SEVERAL MODEL YEARS(MINE IS A 2000) CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND WAS TOLD NOTHING COULD BE DONE SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL. THERE IS A RECALL ON MANUAL TRANSMISSION MODELS OF THIS TRUCK. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT BE KNOWN BY MOST CONSUMERS UNLESS THEY HAVE A REQUIRED SAFETY INSPECTION. *NM
DT: CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. RECALL 05V161000 WAS ISSUED CONCERNING PARKING BRAKE DEFECT. CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE YOU COULD HEAR A SQUEALING NOISE, IT ATE UP THE ROTOR. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP 10-7-05 WHERE THEY REPLACED THE PARTS.
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS BRAKE PROBLEM. THE ABS KICKED IN AT LOW SPEEDS, CAUSING THE VEHICLE NOT TO STOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE PUSHING BACK AGAINST THE CONTACT'S FOOT, AND AT OTHER TIMES IT FELT LIKE THE PEDAL PULSATED. SOMETIMES WHEN THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES THERE WASH GROWLING NOISE. THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME WHEN HE CAME TO A STOP, BUT IT STARTED HAPPENING MORE OFTEN. *AK UPDATED 01/04/06. *JB
ANTILOCK BRAKES ALWAYS ACTIVATE WHEN BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS, WAS TOLD BY CHEVY DEALER THERE IS A RECALL BUT NOT ON MY VEHICLE. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR BRAKE PADS WORE OUT UNEVENLY AND TOO QUICKLY. THE DEALER SAID THE REAR BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE WORK HAS NOT BEEN DONE. *AK
ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICKING IN AT SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO COME TO A STOP. 2000 SILVERADO. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED DUE TO RUST AFTER ONLY 14,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM APPEARED ON THE FRONT ROTORS AT 38,000 MILES AND THOSE WERE ALSO REPLACED. THE PROBLEM WAS NOTICED BECAUSE THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS ON BOTH OCCASIONS. THE RUST FIRST APPEARED NEAR THE AXEL OF THE ROTOR AND WORKED ITS WAY TOWARD THE OUTSIDE. THE RUST WAS ONLY PRESENT ON THE BRAKING SURFACE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES RECALL. ONE OF THE BRAKES, DUE TO THE OTHERS NOT BEING DEFECTIVE WAS DAMAGED. TWO YEARS LATER, THE SAME DEFECT OCCURRED ON THE REMAINING BRAKES. DURING THE PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR, ALL OF THE BRAKES WERE NOT SERVICED DUE TO THE DEALERS SPECIFICATIONS. THE DEALER STATED THAT SINCE HE HAS ALREADY USED HIS RECALL, HE IS REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, ALTHOUGH THE OTHER BRAKES WERE NOT A PART OF THE ORIGINIAL RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD DO AN INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE IF THIS IS A CONCERN OF THEIRS. THE CONTACT DID NOT AGREE TO ANY CHARGES AS IT RELATES TO ANY RECALL. GM'S RECALL NOTICE ID: IS 05068. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,580. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 95,000.
ON 9/22/05 I HAD SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. ON 9/23/05 I BROUGHT MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TO THE CHAMPION CHEVROLET DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH P/N 26100839 WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THIS IS A FIRE HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY GM. I DO HAVE THE OLD DAMAGED SWITCH. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE HINGE AND ATTACHMENT. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. ALSO, HE CONTACTED TWO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIPS, AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH TAILGATE STRAPS BROKE ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2005.*AK
DT: CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2005 WHILE DRIVING 50-55 MPH. IT WAS A HEAD ON COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER HAD NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER. *AK
TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER HIGHWAY DRIVING, THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR. NO ERROR MESSAGE OR WARNING APPEARS. THIS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AT AN INTERSECTION. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN JULY TO ASSIST W/RESCUES AND CANNOT PUT THE ANIMALS OR MYSELF AT RISK. CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE; THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAVE SEEN IT OFTEN; MY PERSONAL MECHANIC HAS SEEN IT OFTEN. CHEVROLET ASKED ME TO TAKE IT TO THEIR DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THE DIAGNOSTICS RUN. $90 AND CONFIRMATION TRANSMISSION NEEDED. 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP HAS BEEN HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS AND IS GETTING WORSE. TRUCK HAS A DEFECT WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR THAT IS KNOW TO GM. THERE WAS AN ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE NEWS ABOUT A RECALL ON BRAKES FOR GM TRUCKS AND SUVS. ACCORDING TO INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET THE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS PART OF THAT RECALL. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO GET IT FIXED THEY SAID AN "OFFICIAL" RECALL HASN'T BEEN MADE YET. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAVE ALREADY BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP CALLED GM FOR AUTHORIZATION TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE GM REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE TRUCK TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE "THE RECALL IS NOT GOING OUT UNTIL NOVEMBER". THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW. THE TRUCK IS BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE. GM HAS ALREADY MADE IT PUBLIC THAT THERE WILL BE A RECALL DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. BRAKE LINES (PIPES) ARE RUSTED SO SEVERELY THAT ALL FLUID SUDDENLY LEAKED OUT AS I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE RUSTING CONDITION MUST HAVE ORIGINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED, AS I REPORTED BRAKE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. AFTER SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THE DEALER MADE MAJOR REPAIRS IN 2002 ON THE BRAKES DUE TO RUSTED OUT COMPONENTS, BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC LINES. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXCLAIMED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN SO MUCH RUST ON BRAKE SYSTEMS. AS A RETIRED PROFESSOR, HAVING TAUGHT METALLURGY AND INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS, THERE ARE METAL TREATMENT PROCEDURES THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED WHEN MANUFACTURING PIPING FOR VEHICLE HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS. OBVIOUSLY, GENERAL MOTORS USED INFERIOR PARTS AND MATERIALS IN BRAKE SYSTEMS. IF THEY DO NOT RECALL ALL VEHICLES WITH BRAKE COMPONENT RUSTING PROBLEMS, MANY ACCIDENTS WILL OCCUR. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON OUR 2000 SILVERADO 1/2 TON SINCE WE BOUGHT IT IN 2003. WE HAVE REPLACED BOTH REAR AND FRONT BRAKES (INCLUDING FRONT ROTORS). PROBLEM WORSENED QUICKLY AND WITHIN A FEW DAYS HAPPENED ON ALMOST EVERY STOP. REPAIR SHOP CHECKED ROTORS AND PADS, AND DECLARED THEM OKAY. THEY SUSPECTED SOMETHING WITH ABS, FOUND AT LEAST ONE ABS RECALL NOTICE, AND SUGGESTED REPAIR AT THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE BAD, AND REPLACED BOTH AT A COST OF NEARLY $600. BRAKES FUNCTION CORRECTLY NOW. VEHICLE IS 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 AND PROBLEM FOLLOWS SYMPTOMS AND REMEDY ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA PE05020.
