ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATING AT LOW SPEEDS LEADING TO LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB
2000 CHEVY SILVERADO BRAKES - VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND I STARTED HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS - THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL KICK BACK AS IF THE ABS GOES ON WHEN I AM STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN,ETC -- STARTING OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY SO I DECIDED TO CHANGE THE BRAKE PADS IN THE REAR. TO MY SURPRISE THE LEFT REAR ROTOR AND BACKING PLATE WERE TOTALLY RUSTED THROUGH AND THAT BRAKE PAD WAS WORN DOWN ALMOST COMPLETELY WHILE THE RIGHT REAR ROTOR/BACKING PLATE AND BRAKE PAD WERE ALMOST NEW?? I WENT AHEAD AND PUT ON THE NEW BRAKE PADS BUT THIS DID NOT CURE THE PROBLEM. I NOW AM GOING TO TAKE IT IN TO THE BRAKE SHOP WHERE I SUSPECT I WILL NEED A NEW ROTOR/BACKING PLATE AND ABS SENSOR ON THE LEFT REAR. I DOUBT THIS IS DUE TO SALT AS IF IT WAS, IT WOULD OCCUR ON EITHER BOTH SIDES OR THE DRIVERS SIDE MORE THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE, DON'T YOU?? AS WELL, I LIVE IN A COUNTY THAT DOESN'T USE STRAIGHT SALT AND DO LITTLE TO NO CITY DRIVING. *JB
AFTER NARROWLY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT, I NOTICED THAT THE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE IN THE LAST TEN FEET OR SO WHEN STOPPING MY 2000 CHEVEROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK. VIN [XXX]. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE GM DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED THE INCIDENTS AND REQUESTED REPAIR. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF BRENENGEN CHEVERLET, WEST SALEM WISCONSIN FOUND A GM BULLETIN ON THE PROBLEM AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED THEREIN AND CLEANED THE ABS SENSOR MOUNTS WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER ABOUT A POSSIBLE RECALL OF SOME GM VEHICLES. SO FAR THIS RECALL HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN, BUT CERTAINLY THERE IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND ACTION TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. DT: THE CONTACT STATED T WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS ACTIVATED FOLLOWED BY A SQUEAKING NOISE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHO CLEANED THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES, BUT THE CONTACT DID NOT LIVE IN A SALT BELT STATE. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL. NO FURTHER REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE. *AK 11/29/2005 - *NM
WE HAD PURCHASED UNIROYAL TIRES IN OCTOBER 2002 FROM FARM AND FLEET IN LA CROSSE. AS OF AUGUST 4, 2005, ALL THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE TIRES CRACKING AND PEELING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO SEARS WHERE THEY TOLD US THEY WOULD NOT LET US DRIVE THE CAR DUE THE SEVERITY OF THE PEELING OF THE TIRES. DRIVING OUR CAR WITH THE TIRES IN THE POOR CONDITION COULD CAUSE AND ACCIDENT AND INJURY. I STARTED HAVING A PANIC ATTACK AFTER HEARING THIS NEWS. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR TIRES TO SHRED, CRACK, AND PEEL AT ONLY 40,000 MILES. I CALLED FARM AND FLEET WHERE WE BOUGHT THE TIRES AND HE TOLD ME "TOO BAD" AND HUNG UP ON ME. I CALLED UNIROYAL AND SHE SAID IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM IF OUR TIRES CRACKED, THAT'S WHAT TIRES DO. THESE TIRES THAT CRACKED, PEELED, AND SHREDDED HAVE A 75,000 MILES WARRANTY, NOONE WILL HONOR THIS WARRANTY AND WE HAD TO SPEND OVER $400 BUYING NEW TIRES. *NM
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT DRIVING SLOW. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS GREATER. THE GREATER STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED THE CHANCE OF HITTING SOMETHING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT, DRIVER SIDE HUB ASSEMBLY. *NM
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500, HAD ABS PROBLEMS. WHILE DRIVING UNDER 15 MPH THE CONTACT ALMOST HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. THERE WAS A RECALL CAMPAIGN # 05V379000 FOR SERVICE BRAKES, ANTI LOCK. THE CONTACT HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FILE # 71470052366. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS FILE OVER A WEEK AGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS HAD THE SENSORS REPLACED ON 3 OCCASIONS. THE 1ST SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT 45,104 MILES ON 08/02/05, AND THE 2ND SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT 46583 ON 10/24/05 AND THE 3RD WAS REPLACED 01/17/07 WITH 60216 MILES. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT THE ABS SHOULD NOT HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON 3 OCCASIONS HE HAS BARELY AVERTED A CRASH. *AK
OVERLY SENSITIVE SEAT BELT TRIGGER. SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT WHILE DRIVING CAUSES SEAT BELT TO LOCK, RESTRICTING REQUIRED MOVEMENT FOR SAFE VEHICLE OPERATION, SUCH AS LOOKING OVER SHOULDER WHILE DRIVING TO SEE IF SAFE TO CHANGE LANES OR WHILE BACKING OUT OF SPACES. OPERATOR OF VEHICLE MUST FIGHT WITH SEAT BELT UNTIL IT RELEASES. SEAT BELT HAS BEEN CHANGED 3 TIMES WITHOUT RESOLVE. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE 5 YEARS AGO. *NM
ACTIVATION OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AT LOW BRAKING SPEEDS FOR NO REASON. *NM
DT: RECALL #05068 ON THE ABS SYSTEM. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS STATED IN THE RECALL, HOWEVER THE STATE THAT THE CONSUMER RESIDES IN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A MONTH AND IT WAS GETTING WORSE. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE PROBLEM AROUND AUGUST 1, 2005. THE CONSUMER COULD FEEL IT THROUGH THE BRAKE AND HEAR A CLICKING SOUND. *JB (11/17/05) *SC
DT: THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BRAKES. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED ON 8-1-05 AND ON 8-14-05 THE CONSUMER RAN TWO STOP SIGNS. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AT LEAST 12 TIMES. THERE HAVE BEEN NO ACCIDENTS AS OF YET. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC, THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH CORROSION OF THE ABS. THE CONSUMER HEARD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE THAT ONLY INCLUDED CERTAIN STATES, BUT HIS STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED. *AK *JB
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS AND BOLTS BREAKING. *JB
2000 SILVERADO 1500 WITH 70,500 MILES JULY/05 MY BRAKES STATED TO FEEL LIKE I ONLY HAD 70% OF MY BRAKING CAPACITY. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER I STOMP ON THE BRAKE OR BRAKE WITH INCREASING PRESSURE,THE ANTILOCK WILL NOT ENGAGE NOR WILL THE TIRES LOCK UP. I REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS AND PADS (NON OE @ 62,500 MILES). THE LACK OF BRAKING WAS STILL PRESENT. NEXT I REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER WHICH HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. I JUST HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT THE SYSTEM, THEY NOTED THE REAR PADS WERE WORN (AFTER 8,000 MILES). THE DEALERSHIP ALSO SAID THE NON OE PADS WERE PROBABLY THE CAUSE OF THE LACK OF BRAKING. MY CONCERN WAS THE FACT THAT THE LACK OF BRAKING STARTED WHEN THE OE PADS WERE STILL ON THE TRUCK. *NM
DT: RECEIVED NEW BRAKE LINES AND BRAKES FROM THE GM DEALER, THIS WAS A DESIGN CHANGE BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT LIKE THE OLD ONES. WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURN IT MADE THE RUBBER BRAKE LINE COME IN CONTACT WITH THE WHEEL. THIS HAPPENED ON JULY 27, 2005. THE NEW LINES HAVDBEEN ON H JUST A LITTLE OVER 30 DAYS. *AK
1) HIGHWAY DRIVING FOR 4 HOURS, 60 MPH, NORMAL LOADING OF VEHICLE, 2 ADULTS, 2 CHILDREN 2) COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION OF TIRE, FORTUNATELY TIRE REMAINED INFLATED, NO ACCIDENT, DAMAGE TO REAR WHEEL WELL, FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT, SIZE P265/75R 16 114S M/S, TIRE WAS ORIGINAL FROM CHEVROLET, TRUCK HAD 53,400 MILES 3) REPLACED ALL TIRES TO GOODYEAR. *NM
ABS FAILURE AT LOW SPEED CAUSING COLLISION IN PARKING LOT - THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 SILVERADO 1500 P/U - RESULTING IN EXTREME BODY DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK AND A NEAR FATAL RESULT FOR MYSELF AND TWO GRANDCHILDREN - THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AT THE DEALERSHIP, IN FACT MAJOR WORK WAS DONE 6/13/05 AND WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 7/5/05 WITH BRAKE CONCERNS. *NM
DT: THE CALLER SAID BRAKE LINES RUSTED. HE BELIEVED THE REAR BRAKES WERE AFFECTED. DEALER SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH RUST AND CORROSION. MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO HELP. THE FIRST FAILURE WAS REPAIRED , AND THE SECOND TIME THERE WAS A DIFFERENT SECTION.*AK
MY TRANSMISSION WENT OUT @ 70637 MILES . THIS CONVERSION VAN IS USED MAINLY FOR LONG DISTANCE TRAVEL. ISN'T IT RATHER COINCIDENTAL THAT MY NEIGHBORS LIKE VAN'S TRANSMISSION WENT OUT TOO. NOW THIS IS AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 3/24/2005. THIS VAN HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. I HAVE NEVER GONE ON A TRIP WITH OUT SOME SORT OF VEHICLE TROUBLE WITH THIS VAN. IT LEFT ME IN THE BOONDOCKS OF MINNESOTA LAST SUMMER THREE TIMES BECAUSE OF A FAULTY "SECURITY" COMPUTER CHIP AND HAS NUMEROUS "ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS" THAT COME ON AND THEN OFF. BUT, THE MAIN THING IS THE TRANSMISSION. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT GENERAL MOTORS INSTALLED A TRANSMISSION THAT IS TOO SMALL FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS SIZE AND WEIGHT. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 05V161000 AND GM RECALL 05042 CONCERNING PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT IF THEY HAD TO TAKE THE ROTORS OFF THE TRUCK THEY WERE DAMAGED THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THEM FIXED OR BUY NEW ROTORS. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE ROTORS WERE ABOUT $400.00 TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MANUFACTURER. THE CONSUMER CALLED AND GOT THE RECORDED MESSAGE. *AK *NM
WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS THE BRAKE PEDAL KICKS BACK LIKE THE ABS IS ENGAGED. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF AND RE-APPLY THE BRAKES TO STOP.THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
I WAS DRIVING ON A FOUR LANE INTERSTATE IN CRUISE CONTROL GOING 70 MPH. SUDDENLY I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY SIDEWAYS. I SLID OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A HIGHWAY SIGN WHICH SLOWED ME AND MUST HAVE JARRED SOMETHING BECAUSE THEN I COULD USE MY BRAKES AND ALL FOUR OF THEM SEEMED TO WORK. I SMASHED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND ROCKER PANEL AND OTHER DAMAGE, PROBABLY BENT THE RIM ON A TIRE, HAD CUTS ON BOTH HANDS AND HAD TO TAKE MY DOGS AND CAT TO THE VET AS THEY WERE IN SHOCK. I WAS ABOUT 130 TO 150 MILES FROM HOME AND THANKS TO FRIENDS WAS ABLE TO GET HOME THAT EVENING. THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP I HAD IT TOWED TO, SAID THEY COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE REAR WHEELS TO LOCK. BUT ACCORDING TO THE DPS OFFICER THAT IS WHAT THEY SEEMED TO DO. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES FROM 10 MPH OR LESS, THE BRAKES WOULD ABNORMALLY LOCK. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE SENSORS AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN RECALL WHERE THE DEALER CLEANED THE BRAKE SENSORS. THE CONTACT WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE BRAKE SENSORS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. I HAVE A 2000 SILVERADO 4X4 THAT HAS THE CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT ABS SENSOR, AS DO MANY OTHER PEOPLE DESPITE GM'S REFUSAL TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM IN THE UNITED STATES... SOMEHOW IT EVIDENTLY ONLY HAPPENS IN CANADA. ANYWAY, I CANNOT STOP LESS THAN 7-8 MPH MOST OF THE TIME WITHOUT MULTIPLE PUMPS OF THE BRAKES. I DROPPED MY TRUCK OFF AT SERRA CHEVERELET IN HUDSONVILLE MICHIGAN THIS MORNING (TO HAVE THE GUY TELL ME "IT IS VERY RARE IN THE US, IT GENERALLY HAPPENS IN NORTHERN CANADA" WHICH SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS STRAIGHT OUT OF A "WHAT TO SAY" PAMPHLET FROM GM). THE DEALERSHIP JUST TOLD ME IT WILL BE OVER $950 TO REPLACE THE FRONT TO ABS SENSORS AND THAT IT IS NEEDED BECAUSE THEY CAN'T BE CLEANED. REST ASSURED, I WAS TOLD THE NEW PARTS ARE GUARANTEED FOR LIFE... WELL WHAT ABOUT THE LOWEST-BIDDER CRAP THEY INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY? WHY ISN'T THAT GUARANTEED FOR LIFE, SEEING HOW IT'S MALFUNCTION CAN CAUSE LIFE-THREATENING ACCIDENTS. IN SHORT, PLEASE ADD ANOTHER NUMBER TO THE STATISTICS FOR THIS COMPLAINT.
DT: THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICKED IN AT ANY TIME WHENEVER THE BRAKE WAS HIT. THIS REDUCED THE BRAKING POWER. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THIS PROBLEM STARTED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO. THIS MOSTLY OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN MUCH BECAUSE CONSUMER WAS TOO NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT. THIS WAS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. CONSUMER FOUND AN OPEN INVESTIGATION, PE05020. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL GAUGE GAVE AN INCORRECT READING OF FUEL IN THE GAS TANK. WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS FULL THE GAS GAUGE SHOWED EMPTY AND THE LOW-FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON FOR OVER 100 MILES, AND THEN SLOWLY CREPT ABOVE THE EMPTY LINE. THE INDICATOR LIGHT WOULD GO OFF, BUT WOULD COMES RIGHT BACK ON. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS COMPLETELY FULL THE FUEL GAUGE READ EMPTY, AND THE LOW FUEL INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THIS HAPPENED REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH FUEL THERE WAS IN THE GAS TANK. THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATOR SOMETIMES ROSE ABOVE THE EMPTY MARK AFTER DRIVING OVER 100 MILES.*AK
ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEEDS CAUSING A MUCH LONGER TIME TO STOP MY TRUCK. ALMOST ROLLED OUT INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. ONLY HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY WITHOUT ANY RHYME OR REASON. *JB
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. WHILE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATES WHICH MAKES IT HARDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES BECAUSE THIS DEFECT HAS AFFECTED STOPPING DISTANCES. GM IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE FAULTY ABS SENSORS. I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN CANADA BUT THEY HAVEN'T DONE A RECALL IN THE US. I TALKED TO A MECHANIC AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THAT IT WOULD COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE SENSORS. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME. IT SHOULD BE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY DUE TO THE FAULTY SENSORS. THIS DEFECT IS JEOPARDIZING PEOPLE'S LIVES. I CAN'T DRIVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I FEAR FOR THEIR SAFETY. *JB
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK. IT HAS 57,000 MILES AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. ON OR ABOUT JULY 09 2005, THE POWER LOCK MECHANISM FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR STOPPED WORKING. THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR STILL WORKED. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A BLOWN FUSE BUT AFTER CHECKING ALL FUSES DETERMINED THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM. I FELT THAT MY KEY TO THE DOORS WOULD ALLOW ACCESS TO THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN. THE KEY DID WORK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE SLIDE BAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ALSO COULD NOT MOVE THUS RENDERING THAT DOOR IN A CONSTANT STATE OF BEING LOCKED. I BECAME VERY CONCERNED THAT A VEHICLE COULD BE MADE WITH POWER LOCKS AND NOT HAVE SOME SYSTEM TO MANUALLY ALLOW THE OPENING OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE VEHICLE WERE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE ONLY WAY OUT WAS THE PASSENGER DOOR THE OCCUPANT COULD FACE SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. I SENT AN E MAIL TO GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. I WANTED TO SPEAK TO AN ENGINEER TO FIND OUT WHY A VEHICLE WOULD FUNCTION LIKE THIS BUT WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT HONOR MY REQUEST AND I NEEDED TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A DEALER FOR REPAIRS MY STANCE IS I DO NOT TRUST SOME DEALERS AND THAT WOULDN'T DETERMINE IF THE DESIGN HAS A MAJOR FLAW. MY VEHICLE MIGHT HAVE BEEN FIXED AT MY EXPENSE BUT PERHAPS ANOTHER OWNER MIGHT BE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS DUE TO FAULTY DESIGNS WHICH IS A SEVERE SAFETY RISK. NO INCIDENT..,HOWEVER WHILE IN ALASKA IN 2005. I WAS TOLD BY A STATE TROOPER THAT MY VEHICLE SIDE MIRRORS DO NOT MEET DOT STANDARDS, THEY ARE TOO SMALL TO PROPERLY VIEW THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE: 2000 CK3500, CREW CAB, 4X4, DUEL REAR WHEELS..,PULLING A 29' TRAVEL TRAILER. THE TROOPER IS RIGHT, MY MIRRORS DON'T EVEN VIEW BEYOND THE REAR FENDERS MUCH LESS THE TRAILER. MY QUESTION IS; HOW CAN THE VEHICLE INDUSTRY PUT A PRODUCT ON SALE IF IT DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS IT WAS MADE TO DO? NOBODY BUYS A VEHICLE AS DESCRIBED WITHOUT USING IT TO PULL SOMETHING AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS PER THE STANDARDS SET BY DOT NATIONALLY AND BY STATES. *TR
DT: CONSUMER STATED THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WAS CORRODED. THE BRAKES VIBRATED AT LOW SPEEDS, BELOW 10 MPH. THE ABS SYSTEM DID NOT WORK CORRECTLY FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS. CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES SERVICED AND FIXED THIS WEEK. THE BRAKES WERE WORKING FINE CURRENTLY. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. THE BRAKES WERE REPAIRED BY THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
THIS COMPLAINT IS IN REGARD TO MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 4X4 AND ITS POOR BRAKES. AT 40,000 MILES JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, ALL OF ITS DISC ROTORS WERE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR BY MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THAT POINT. AT 50,000 MILES, A SMALL LEAK WAS FOUND ON MY REAR CALIPER AND VAST, SIGNIFICANT CORROSION WAS NOTED ON ALL 4 CALIPERS. DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES, ALL 4 CALIPERS WERE REPLACED BY THE SAME MECHANIC. I CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE FURTHER BRAKING DIFFICULTIES. AS I APPROACH A STOP, MY BRAKING DISTANCE WILL INCREASE AT 5MPH OR LESS AND IT FEELS LIKE HESITATION THROUGH THE PEDAL AND A CHATTERING. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO STOP FURTHER INTO INTERSECTIONS THAN ANTICIPATED AND MANY NEAR- MISSES FOR REAR END ACCIDENTS. NO WARNING LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ACTIVATED AND NO DIAGNOSTIC CODING IS EVIDENT WHEN TESTED. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP WHO CLAIMED TO KNOW NOTHING OF PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS IN MY TRUCK'S MODEL OR YEAR. UPON TEST DRIVE THE GM MECHANIC FELT IT WAS THE ABS SENSOR AND CORROSION CAUSING THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY AND SENSOR WERE REPLACED AS ONE UNIT AT COST OF $520 PAID BY ME.
DT: THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH UNWANTED ANTI LOCK BRAKE ACTIVATION. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED AROUND 7-4-05. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED A DEALERSHIP BY PHONE AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TO OCCUR. THIS HAPPENED AT SLOW SPEEDS, 10 MPH OR LESS. THIS WAS AN ON GOING PROBLEM. AND IT HAS CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO ALMOST HAVE AN ACCIDENT A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE CONSUMER FOUND ON THE WEBSITE THAT THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 05V379000/GM RECALL 05068. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THEY TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. *AK
ABS SYSTEM INOPERATIVE SINCE 70,000 MILES DUE TO BURNT CONTROL MODULE. PAID DEALER $100 TO TEST TO FIND OUT REPAIRS WILL BE IN EXCESS OF $900. MODULE LOCATED ON FRAME RAIL WHERE IT TAKES ALL WATER FROM LF TIRE. NUMEROUS OTHERS THAT I KNOW OF WITH SAME PROBLEM. NO HELP FROM EITHER GM OR DEALER. DUCT SHIELDS/BACKING PLATES COMPLETELY CORRODED AT 175000 MILES AS WELL AS THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COVER. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY UNUSUAL CONDITIONS. FAILURE OF THE BACKING PLATE CAUSED EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOES TO BECOME MISALIGNED AND DAMAGE ROTORS AND SERVICE BRAKES. AT 65000 MILES GAS GAUGE BECAME SPORADIC. DEALER SERVICE REP INFORMED THAT THEY GO BAD DUE TO COLD GAS BEING PUT INTO VEHICLE IN WINTER. ENTIRE PUMP ASSEMBLY NEEDS REPLACED AT $380. I REALIZE TRUCK HAS NOW 175000 MILES, BUT I KNOW TOO MANY OTHERS AND HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF POSTS ON MESSAGE BOARDS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS.
AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT
FUEL GAUGE INITIALLY DID NOT REGISTER CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL WHEN TANK IS >7/8 FULL. NOW THE FUEL GAUGE REGISTERS THE WRONG AMOUNT OF FUEL OVER 50% OF THE TIME NO MATTER HOW FULL THE TANK IS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN LEAVE DRIVERS STANDED IN VERY DANGEROUS PLACES, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THIS IS A 4X4 VEHICLE THAT MY FAMILY AND I USE TO GET INTO VERY REMOTE LOCATIONS. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED!
FAILURE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. DEFECTIVE MODULE KEPT FEEDING POWER TO THE MOTOR OF THE ABS AND THEN THE MOTOR FRIED. MY ABS LIGHT (YELLOW) CAME ON FOLLOWED BY THE BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT (RED). A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN REVEALED THE ABS MODULE AND MOTOR BOTH WERE DEFECTIVE. I HAD BOTH THE MODULE AND THE MOTOR REPLACED. THE PARTS TOTALED AROUND $1500. *NM

DT: AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS SYSTEM LOCKED, AND VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. THE ABS MOTOR POPPED AND PUSHED THE PEDAL BACK. THIS PAST SATURDAY COULDN'T GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE FRONT HUBS SENSOR, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK

FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS RUSTING ON 2000 CHEVY SILERADO 4X4. DEALER REPLACE REAR ONLY LAST YEAR. I WANTED ALL 4 REPLACED THEN. JUST HAD A CLOSE CALL WITH STOPPING DISTANCE. INSPECTED BRAKES AND FOUND REAR ROTOR RUSTED COMPLETELY AND FRONT INSIDE OF ROTORS RUST.

DT: THE CONTACT'S SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 6-17-05. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A COPY OF THE CRASH REPORT. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE HIT SEVERAL TREES. THE POLICE REPORT STATED THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 55 MPH. THE PASSENGER'S HEAD WENT THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD, BUT PASSENGER WAS NOT SERIOUSLY HURT. NEITHER THE DRIVER NOR THE PASSENGER HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT REPORTED THAT AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN THE CAR PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. THE CONTACT TOOK PICTURES OF THE PINE TREE THAT WAS EMBEDDED IN THE HOOD. UPDATED 11/15/05. *JB
ANTI LOCK BRAKES GO OFF BELOW 10MPH WHEN COMING TO A STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT. WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ROLE ALMOST RESULITING IN MINOR COLLISION.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE POWER STEERING PUMP HAD FAILED. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED BY THE CONTACT AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BACK PLATE FAILED ON THE REAR BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND THE BRAKE FAILED. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THE BACKER PLATE RUSTED OUT, RESULTING IN THE BRAKE FAILURE. THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM WAS A COMBINATION OF BOTH DISC AND DRUM BRAKES. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE BACK PLATE. THE BACK PLATE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED AT THIS TIME. EARLIER THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM. ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED, RESULTING IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE WHEEL CYLINDER SEPARATED FROM THE CALIPERS. THE ONLY WARNING LIGHT CAME AFTER THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE LEFT ROTOR. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND THE CALIPERS WERE REBUILT. THE BRAKE PADS HAD LESS THAN 50 % WEAR BUT THEY WERE REPLACED AS WELL. *AK
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT COME TO A SMOOTH STOP WITHOUT THE ABS SYSTEM BEING ACTIVATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO EXTENDED THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE CONTACTBELEIVED THE FAILURE TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED TWICE BEFORE BY THE MANUFACTURER BUT CONTINUED TO FAIL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,500.
