I AM CURRENTLY WORKING BASED IN MEXICO. MY 2000 TAHOE IS MY FAMILY VEHICLE THAT I ONLY USE TO TRAVEL WITH MY FAMILY WITHIN MEXICO. ON FRIDAY THE 21ST OF JANUARY 2005 MY SON AND I WERE TRAVELING ON A STATE ROAD AND MY TAHOE CAUGHT ON FIRE GOING 50 MPH. TRAFIC ON THE ROAD WAS SIGNALING TO ME AS IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM BUT I CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT 100 YARDS BECAUSE ALL THE LEVES AND GAUGES WERE NORMAL ON THE TRUCK. I STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I SAW SOME SMOKE AND BY THE TIME I STOPPED THE TRUCK WAS IN FLAMES ON THE FRONT, UNDERNEATH AND REAR. I ONLY HAD TIME TO TAKE MY 6 YEAR OLD CHILD OUT OF THE TRUCK WHICH WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT BUT THE TRUCK AND BELONGINGS WERE A TOTAL LOSS. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT STOP THE FIRE AS IT LASTED FOR 1 HOUR AND NOTHING BUT THE FRAME WAS LEFT OF THE TRUCK. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT NOTHING HAPPENED TO MY CHILD AND I BUT THIS IS SOMETHING EXTEMELY DANGEROUS THAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED FOR FUTURE CUSTOMERS OF THIS VEHICLE. WE ALWAYS KEPT THIS VEHICLE ON TOP CONDITIONS AND WE HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS WAS CAUSED OR HOW TO AVIOD THIS IN THE FUTURE. WE RECIEVED GREAT HELP FROM THE MEXICAN POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT AS THEY TOOK CARE OF ALL THE ROAD DAMAGES AND THEY ALSO CLEARED ME FROM ANY DAMAGES TO THE CITY AS THIS IS NORMALY PAID FOR BY THE DRIVER. MY FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THIS WORLD AND I AM SURE THAT OTHERS FEEL THE SAME ABOUT THEIR FAMILIES AND I HOPE GM VSN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE BY IMPROVING THIS VEHICLE. *AK
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 77,200 MILES. TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL AT THAT MILEAGE UNLESS THE TRUCK WAS USED ON A FARM OR CONSISTENTLY USED FOR HEAVY TOWING. THE TRUCK WAS NOT USED ON A FARM AND WAS USED FOR TOWING (A BOAT AND 2 SNOWMOBILIES) ABOUT 10 TIMES PER YEAR.
DT: THE CALLER SAID BRAKES FAILED AT LOW SPEEDS. HE STATED THAT WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES LOCKED. WHEN GOING BETWEEN 3-10 MPH WAS WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED. IT HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WAS RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING ANTILOCK BRAKES ON OTHER VEHICLES , BUT THE RECALL WAS NOT FOR THE CALLER'S STATE. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. MANUFACTURER SAID THE CALLER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL, AND THEY WILL NOT FIX THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. HE HAD ONE NEAR MISS ACCIDENT. *AK UPDATED 11/17/2005. *NM
THE VEHICLE CAME TO A ROLLING STOP AT ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR, THE ABS CHECK LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. OWNER WILL CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. *JB
I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK SINCE DEC 2001 THE FUEL GAUGE HAS WORKED ON AND OFF SINCE THEN IT WILL WORK FINE THEN WHEN I FILL THE TANK IT WILL READ NO FUEL AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT WILL COME ON UNTIL IT GETS DOWN TO ABOUT 3/4 TANK THE IT WILL START WORKING AGAIN. IF I AM SITTING IDLING THE GAGE WILL GO TO ZERO THEN WILL SLOWLY CREAP BACK UP WHEN VEHICLE IS MOVING. ALSO HAVE PROBLEM WITH GAS PEDAL STICKING. I HAVE TO REMOVE AIR CLEANER HOSE AND LUBE THROTTLE BODY BUTTERFLY TO UN STICK IT ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. *NM
THE EVENT WAS A CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME WHICH STILL HIT THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY VEHICLE (2000 CHEVY SILVERADO). THEN MY TRUCK HAD A FULL FRONTAL IMPACT AT GREATER THAN 30 MPH INTO A DIRT WALL IN WHICH NEITHER THE DRIVER'S NOR PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED (THE TRUCK IS TOTALLED). I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL AND GOT A CONCUSSION WITH BLOOD AROUND THE BRAIN, A BROKE CHEEK BONE, AND FRACTURED HIP. MY WIFE WAS 33 WEEKS PREGANANT AT THE TIME AND HER WATER BROKE AND SHE GOT A COMPOUND FRACTURE IN THE LOWER LEG/ANKLE. AS A RESULT OF THE WATER BREAKING MY SON WAS BORN 3 DAYS LATER 7 WEEKS PREMATURE. AS FOR WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM I'M HOPING IT WILL AT LEAST BE INVESTIGATED TO MAKE SURE THIS IS NOT A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM (I.E. SOFTWARE SCREWUP SOMETHING NOT HOOKED UP RIGHT IN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM ETC). I HAVE PICS OF THE TRUCK AND THE CRASH SITE I CAN SEND IF NECESSARY. I CAN ALSO PROVIDE THE LOCATION OF THE TRUCK SO IT CAN BE INSPECTED.*AK
AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY, AFTER MINOR SIDE IMPACT. *BF AFTER TRAVELING 20-30 FEET AWAY FROM THE SIDE IMPACT CRASH SITE THE CONSUMER FRONTAL IMPACT CRUSHED HER VEHICLE. NEITHER THE FRONT OR THE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. *TC *JB
OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS I'VE EXPERIENCED FAILURES WHILE BRAKING. AFTER HAVING THE DEALER CHECK THIS PROBLEM HE ADVISE ME TO REPLACE HUB AND BEARINGS. AT MY COST..... THIS HASN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. LAST WINTER I SLID THROUGH SEVERAL INTERSECTIONS. AT SLOW SPEEDS I KNOW NOW TO FORGET ABOUT ABS-ING AND PUMP THE HELL OUT OF THE BRAKES. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE "INCIDENT DATE" IS JUST A GUESS FROM LAST WINTER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED. THE BRAKES WOULD SPORADICALLY PULSATE WHEN DEPRESSED AND INTERMITTENTLY, WOULD CAUSE A DRASTIC INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE ABS SENSOR WOULD ACTIVATE AS IF THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON WET ROADWAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN 2005 UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE ABS FUSE TO USE THE MANUAL BRAKING SYSTEM BECAUSE CLEANING OF THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACE ON THE BEARINGS DID NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE BRAKE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY REPAIRED IN 2005 AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND REPAIRS TO THE BRAKES. THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WAS BACKING A TRAILER INTO A BARN ON LEVEL GROUND ,POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES FAILED WITH NO WARNING. REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN DONE YET. *JB
WHEN DRIVING BELOW 10 MPH VEHICLE WILL LOOSE THE ABS BRAKING. BRAKES WORK INTERMITTENTLY. CONSUMER STRUCK THE GARAGE WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED, AND AT OTHER OCCURRENCES A VEHICLE.*AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 04V129000 FOR THE TAILGATE, MADE AN APPOINTMENT DEALER, AND UPON ARRIVING THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. CONSUMER WENT HOME. A SECOND RECALL LETTER STATING THE RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED. CONSUMER MADE AN APPOINTMENT ONCE AGAIN, TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND ONCE AGAIN WAS TOLD THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *AK
TAILGATE CABLE CORRODED AND BROKE. CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK THE CONSUMER ALSO REPLACED THE CABLE THAT HADN'T BORKEN YET. *BF *NM
JUST JOINING THE MASSESS OF GM TRUCK OWNERS WITH FAULTY HUB ASSEMBLY ABS SENSORS. 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO - 50,000 MILES (PROBLEM STARTED AT APPROX 45,000) LACK OF ABILITY IN SLOW SPEED STOPPING CREATED SOME NEAR MISS SITUATIONS WITH GARAGE DOORS AND PEOPLE/OTHER AUTOS IN PARKING LOTS. TEMPORARY SOLUTION WAS TO PULL THE FUSE, A WHOLE LOT LESS DANGER ON THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY ABS THAN WITH IT.
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK, I AM HAVING SEVERE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER STATES THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED AND HAVE PUT ONLY 10,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND MOSTLY USE MY COMPANY CAR. I AM LOOKING OFR SOME TYPE OF RELIEF PLEASE HELP.*AK
I HAVE A 2000 SILVERADO WITH 4.8 & A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. STARTED HEARING NOISE WITH CLUTCH DISENGAGED & IN NEUTRAL. DEALER SAYS BEARINGS IN TRANS ARE SHOT . VEHICLE HAS ONLY 67,000 MILES. I'VE CHANGED THE FLUIDS RELIGIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING. I NEVER HEARD OF A MANUAL TRANS FAILING THIS EARLY. DEALER SAYS THAT SOMETIMES YOU GET A BAD ONE. *JB
TRUCK WOULC CLUNK AND FRONT END WOULD JUMP WHEN PUTTING INTO GEAR AND AND TURNING. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP IN FEAR THAT IT WOULD BREAK DOWN. REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY REPLACED WITH USED REAR-END.
IN EARLY JANUARY I NOTICED ON TV THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. FOR THE DRIVESHAFT ON THE POWER STEERING UNIT. I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO, HOW LONG DOES THE MANUFACTURER HAVE TO NOTIFY THE OWNERS ON THE RECALL? OR ARE THEY REQUIRED TO DO SO. I BELIEVE THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL SOME TIME BACK ON SAME MODEL FOR THE CABLE STRAPS( TAILGATE SUPPORT) BUT NEVER HEARD A THING FROM THE DEALER. I MADE A PHONE CALL ON FEB 4 TO THE LOCAL DEALER REGARDING THE POWER STEERING AND HE HAD NOT HEARD OF ANY SUCH RECALL. THIS I KIND OF A SORE SUBJECT FOR ME BECAUSE WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES ON MY PICKUP I HAD TO HAVE THE SEALS REPLACED ON THE POWER STEERING UNIT DUE TO LEAKAGE, IN MY JUDGMENT THEY WORE OUT PREMATURELY. THAT COST ME $236.00, IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE DRIVESHAFT ON THE UNIT AND THE SEALS WEARING PREMATURELY? I BELIEVE I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THE $236.00 IF IN FACT THERE IS A RECALL.*JB

WHILE UNLOADING THE TAILGATE DROPPED COMPLETELY DOWN. NO INJURY REPORTED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.*AK
SERVICE F.W.D. LIGHT COMES ON , DEALER SAYS NOTHING IS WRONG BUT THE F.W.D. DOSE NOT WORK SOMETIMES. I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL GO INTO F.W.D. LOW WHEN I AM DRIVING AT A MODERATE SPEED CAUSING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE INJURY. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT AT LOW SPEEDS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES KICK IN MAKING MY STOPPING DISTANCE LONGER
FUEL GAGE IS SHOWING IT IS ON EMPTY AND THE TANK IS FULL. THIS DOES NOT MATTER IF THE TANK IS 1/2 OR FULL. THE TRUCK CAN BE IN PARK OR IN DRIVE. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE TRUCK IS SITTING STILL FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE. THEN THE GAGE WILL JUMP FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND IN ALL OTHER DIRECTIONS. THIS HAS CAUSE ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS A COUPLE OF TIMES. I KNOW HAVE TO RESET MY TRIP TO KEEP UP WITH THE MILES THAT I HAVE PUT ON THE TRUCK. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AND TRYING TO PARK THE VEHICLE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE SURGED. CONSUMER HAS HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED AT 32, 000 MILES ALL AROUND THE VEHICLE. DEALER TOLD CONSUMER THAT THE CALIPERS WERE WORKING ABOUT 50%. *AK
THE ABS CHECK LIGHT MAINTAINS ON WHILE THE VEHICLE IS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING AT INCLINES AND INTERSECTIONS. CONSUMER WILL CONTACT DEALER FOR CHECK UP.*AK VEHICLE ROCKS THROUGH STOPS IN WET CONDITIONS WITH ABS NOISES, BUT VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP. *AK
RECALL CAMPAIGN 02V078 00 CONCERNING AIR BAG SENSING MODULE. CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION, IT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT AT 50 MPH. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED. CONSUMER SUSTAINE DINJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE LOCAL HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK
CONSTANT FAILURE OF MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO BRAKES. MY ABS WAS CONSTANTLY KICKING IN EVERY TIME I WAS TRYING TO STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS. AS AN EXAMPLE: IN MY DRIVEWAY. MY MECHANIC WAS INFORMED OF SERVICE BULLETINS BY GM ABOUT CORROSION IN THE SENSOR AREA. I HAD ONE SENSOR REPLACED, BUT IT WAS STATED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME.
BRAKES ABS, AT LOW SPEEDS UNDER 40MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES AND THERE IS A LOUD RATCHETING NOISE. THE VIECHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE IS THREE TIMES THE NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE.THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. SECOND CONTACT AND THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. NO ACCIDENTS AT THIS TIME.
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2000. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS. AT VERY LOW SPEED, UNDER 10 MPH, WHEN THE CONSUMER STEPS ON THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. SOMETIMES THE CONSUMER HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER COULD HEAR SOME TYPE OF NOISE WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES. HAD VEHICLE IN PA FOR 3 WINTER SEASONS. *JB *SC
WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE BRAKES DO NOT HOLD PROPERLY. CONSUMER HAD THE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED, AND WAS STILL NOT SATISFIED WITH THE PERFORMANCE. *AK
STOPPING DISTANCE AT SLOW SPEED IS NOT ALWAY AS CRISP AS IT SHOULD BE. THE ABS SOMETIMES COME ON, WHEN IT SHOULDN'T. MY LOCAL MECHANIC HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIX THIS. WHY ARE THE CANADIANS TREATED AS FIRST CLASS CONSUMERS AND THE AMER- ICAN AS SECOND RATE?
FAILURE OF SERVICE BRAKES WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH (LOW SPEED). CAUSED BY CORROSION OF SPEED SENSORS. REPAIRED BY DEALER (CLEANING OF SPEED SENSORS). DEALER REPAIR MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED IN PAST AND ANOTHER SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED A FEW DAYS AFTER THIS ONE, INVOLVING ANOTHER CHEVROLET TRUCK. DEALER FURTHER RELATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM HOWEVER HAS ONLY ISSUED A BULLETIN ON HOW TO REPAIR AT OWNERS COST (APPROX. $400.00 WITHOUT REPLACEMENT PARTS, ONLY LABOR). *NM
DT: 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO, PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES. WHEN APPLIED BRAKES THEY WENT TO FLOOR AND HAD TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. IT TOOK A LONG DISTANCE TO STOP. ALMOST HAD SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. REPLACED BOTH HUB ASSEMBLIES ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. AT THE COST OF $420.42. MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY HE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS OF THIS KIND AND BRAKE SENSOR FAILED THAT WAS IN HUB ASSEMBLY.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2000 SILVERADO 1500 PICK-UP TRUCK ON DRY PAVEMENT, AS I WAS ABOUT TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN GOING LESS THAN ABOUT 10 MPH, I TRIED TO BRAKE. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AND ALL I COULD FEEL WAS A ROLLING SENSATION WHEN I WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. LUCKILY, I HAD TIME TO LIFT MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUSH DOWN AGAIN, THIS TIME THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE AND I STOPPED INCHES FROM THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *JB
THE PRESSURE LINE FROM THE RESERVOIR HAS A HOLE WHERE THE LINE PASSED NEAR/BEHIND THE BATTERY. IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN BURNED OR EATEN AWAY FROM TOUCHING BATTERY. *BF WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A STORM THE WINDSHIELD WASHER HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE. THE CONSUMER ALSO DISCOVERED THAT WHEN THE WASHER WAS ENGAGED, IT WOULD SPRAY WASHER FLUID ALL OVER THE BATTERY. *SC *JB
THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE ON MY 2000 SILVERADO AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE DIFFICULT TO STOP AND HAS ALMOST RESULTED IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN LAST WINTER AND CONTINUES. I DO NOT GET ANY INDICATION OF A PROBLEM ON THE DASH. I AVOID USING THIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
ENGINE STARTS THEN DIES IMMEDIATELY - AFTER WAITING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES ENGINE WILL START. NOTHING SHOWS ON COMPUTER. NO SERVICE LIGHTS COME ON. *AK
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO - REAR SUSPENSION - SPRING SHACKLE BOLT NUT FOUND MISSING - NO WORK HAS EVER BEEN DONE TO REAR SUSPENSION.*AK
ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. THE PEDAL HITS THE FLOOR BUT NO BRAKES WORK. THE TRUCK HAS NEW ROTORS AND PADS ON THE BACK AND FRONT. WE THOUGHT THEY WERE THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING CHANGED AFTER PUTTING ROTORS AND PADS ON. ONE TIME WE PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP AND WE HIT THE VEHICLE THAT WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, NOTHING WAS DAMAGED.
THE IGNITION BECAME INOPERABLE. KEY WOULD NOT TURN, THE KEY CYLINDER AND SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR 2003. IN BOTH OCCURANCES THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED.*AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN BRAKING, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *JB

THE CONSUMER THEN HIT THE PARKING BRAKE WHICH ALSO HIT THE FLOOR. THE CORRODED LINES LEAKED BETWEEN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS UNIT. THE CONSUMER HAS THE CORRODED LINES IN HIS POSSESSION. *NM
