TRUCK HAD 41000 MILES AND THE GAS GAUGE STARTED JUMPING FROM EMPTY TO FULL. AROUND 44000 MILES THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH APPEARED, TOOK TO DEALER, SAID IT WAS THE SENSOR AT/NEAR THE CENTER BOTTOM OF ENGINE AND WAS COMMON , IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $1000.00 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED OR WAIT TO SEE IF IT WAS RECALLED AND JUST DRIVE MY TRUCK USING THE HYD BRAKES ONLY. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS. HAD ONLY THE MAN. WARRANTY THAT ENDED AT 36 K. VERY DISAPPOINTED, VERY LONG. *NM
THE POWER STEERING PUMP BROKE WHILE THE CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. *PH WHEN THE PART WAS REMOVED, THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE INPUT SHAFT HAD BROKEN. THE BREAK HAPPENED AT THE WELD. THE WELD WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE SHAFT SHOWED SIGNS OF METAL CRYSTALLIZATION. *SC *JB
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
ABS ELECTRONIC MODULE FAILED AT 44,000 MILES. REPLACEMENT PART COST $800.00 PLUS. THE LOCAL GARAGE THAT REPLACED THIS FOR ME TOLD ME THIS WAS THE 4TH OR 5TH ONE HE HAS DONE. I FEEL THAT THIS PART FAILING FOR ALL THE MORE MILES THAT ARE ON THIS VEHICLE (WITH THE MAJORITY OF THEM BEING HIGHWAY MILES)CONSTITUTES SOME TYPE OF PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500, ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO THE PROBLEM STARTED, WHEN I AM TRAVELING AT OR ABOVE 40 MPH THE TRUCK VIBRATES. YOU CAN FEEL THIS VIBRATION THRU THE STEERING WHEEL AND ALSO WHEN THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS ON AND I TURN THE WHEEL TO PARK THE WHEELS SEEM AS IF THEY ARE RESISTING ALMOST AS IF THE WHOLE WHEEL IS JUST GOING TO BREAK THIS STARTED LAST WINTER. *AK

THE ACCELERATOR, WHEN AT IDLE, HAS A "CATCH" IN IT WHICH REQUIRES AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF FOOT PRESSURE TO OVERCOME AND WHEN OVERCOME, THE VEHICLE LURCHES AHEAD OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL THE BRAKE IS APPLIED.THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS CONDITION WHEREBY THE DRIVER IS NOT IN COMPLETE CONTROL, PARTICULARLY IN CLOSE QUARTERS SUCH AS A PARKING LOT. BECAUSE OF THIS CONDITION, I START OUT WITH ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ONE ON THE ACCELERATOR IN ANTICIPATION OF THE PROBLEM BUT IF ANOTHER DRIVER USES MY VEHICLE, HE IS NOT AWARE OF THE IDIOCYNCRACY AND AN ACCIDENT IS EVEN MORE PROBABLE.

WHEN DRIVING UNDER 10 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE ABS ACTIVATED AND IT BECAME HARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED FOR THE DEFECT SINCE THE CONSUMER HAS TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. *JB THIS WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM. *SC *JB
2000 K2500 PICKUP. HAVE HAD THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED TWICE AND NOW NEEDS A 3RD TIME. TRUCK ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES AND CAN NOT KEEP BRAKES AND ROTORS ON IT. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER FINALLY TOLD ME GM HAD A PROBLEM WITH THESE BRAKE ISSUES AND NOW ARE GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND TO GET THE BRAKES DONE THE 3RD TIME. *JB
VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. OWNER WILL APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL FORWARD OR BACKWARD. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD IT'S POSITION WHEN APPLIED. *NM
A RECENT REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON MY 2000 SILVERADO PER A SERVICE BULLETIN TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT ACTIVATES THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AT LOW SPEED CONDITIONS ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE DEALER INSTRUCTED ME THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR AGAIN IN THE FUTURE AS THE HARDWARE WEARS / FAILS AGAIN AND THIS WILL CREATE ANOTHER DANGEROUS SITUATION BY NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP IN THE SAME DISTANCE ON DRY PAVEMENT AS WITH PROPERLY FUNCTIONAL BRAKES. GM ALSO SAYS THEY HAVE NO PLAN AT THIS TIME TO RECALL VEHICLES FOR THIS PROBLEM. *LA
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED FAILURES WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE INITIAL FAILURE BEGAN WHEN HE WOULD APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HE THEN HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD VIBRATE AND EXTEND TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN PUMP THE BRAKES IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE FAILING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A RECALL REPAIRED FOR THE SPEED SENSOR CABLE IN 2006. OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STILL GRINDING AND VIBRATING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP ON DECEMBER 16, 2008 AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE FUNCTIONAL; HOWEVER, THE SPEED SENSOR CONTROL FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE MADE REGARDING THE SPEED CONTROL SENSOR BECAUSE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. I PARKED ON A STEEP HILL, APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKE, AND EXITED THE TRUCK. ALTHOUGH THE BRAKE WAS SET FIRMLY THE TRUCK MOVED FORWARD AND STRUCK THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. DAMAGE WAS VERY MINOR TO BOTH VEHICLES. THE PARKING BRAKE HAS NOT WORKED PROPERLY SINCE THE TRUCK WAS NEW.*AK
THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE (ON ONE SIDE ONLY) SNAPPED WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO GET OUT OF THE PICKUP BED AFTER INSTALLING A TONNEAU COVER. LUCKILY, ONLY ONE SNAPPED; OTHERWISE, I WOULD HAVE HAD CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO MY TAILGATE AS WELL. ALTHOUGH THE TRUCK IS A 2000 MODEL, IT HAS BEEN GARAGED 80% OF IT'S LIFE. IN JANUARY 2004 MY GAS GUAGE STARTED JUMPING FROM FULL TO EMPTY.WHEN YOU GIVE THE GAS TANK A GENTLE HIT WITH YOUR HAND, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHER GM OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T GO TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE TECHNICIANS DO POOR WORK. I USE THE TRIP ODOMETER AND FILLED UP THE GAS TANK AT 300 MILES. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. SOMEBODY COULD RUN OUT OF GAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS LOCATION.*AK
I OWN A 2000 5.3 VORTEX V8 IN MY CHEVROLET AND THE ENGINE MAKES HORRIBLE NOISE WHEN ITS COLD, REFERRED TO AS SLAPPING OF THE PISTON SLEEVE. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS IF ANYTHING. SEEMS LIKE AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR MANY GM OWNERS AND SOMETHING THAT IS ONLY RESOLVED ONCE A BIG STINK IS MADE OF IT BEFORE ANY POSSIBLE ACTION IS DONE. TAILGATE KEEPS FALLING DOWN, DUE TO CHEAP PLASTIC LATCHS. *AK
I PURCHSED MY TRUCK USED, HOWEVER IT WAS IN EXCELENT CONDITION. SHORTLY AFTER I NOTICED THAT WHEN EVER I TRIED TO STOP THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WOULD COME ON FOR NO REASON. EVEN IF I WAS ONLY ROLLING TO A STOP. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WOULD ACTIVATE AND ACTUALLY PREVENT ME FROM COMING TO A SMOOTH CONTROLED STOP. FINALLY IT GOT SO BAD THAT I WAS NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING THE TRUCK. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE TRUCK. HOWEVER THEY DID TELL ME THAT THERE WAS A PARTS CHANGE ORDER. APPARENTLY CHEV. HAS ISSUED NEW WHEEL BEARINGS FOR MY TRUCK. THE TYPE INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. I FEEL THAT CHEV. IS AWARE OF THE CONDTION, HENCE THE NEW PART, AND SHOULD RECALL THE TRUCK. THE BEARINGS IN MY TRUCK WERE REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM HAS STOPPED.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH TAILGATE THAT WAS RECALLED ON OTHER VEHICLES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER, BUT HIS MANUFACTURER TOLD HIM THAT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL IS NOT IN WITH THE RECALL BUT HE IS HAVING THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 04V129000 THE SUMMARY FOR THE COMPALINT IS AS FOLLOWS: ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE GALVANIZED STEEL TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES THAT RETAIN THE TAILGATE IN THE FULL OPEN (HORIZONTAL) POSITION MAY CORRODE, WEAKEN, AND EVENTUALLY FRACTURE. IF BOTH CABLES FRACTURED, THE TAILGATE WOULD SUDDENLY DROP AND STRIKE THE TOP SURFACE OF THE REAR BUMPER. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THE CONTACT IS HAVING WITH HIS VECHILE. THE CONTACT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HIS TAILGATE BEFORE THE RECALL WAS EVEN MADE. THE CONTACT WAS STANDING ON HIS TAILGATE WHILE IT BROKE.*AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71. WHEN I START MY TRUCK MY GAS GAUGE WILL STAY ON EMPTY EVEN WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS. IT WILL ALSO SHOW A HALF A TANK OF GAS WHEN I AM ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS CAUSED ME TO RUN OUT OF GAS ON A BUSY INTERSTATE NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH MY TWO CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK WITH ME. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS WERE SIMULTANEOUSLY DIMMING AND BRIGHTENING. THE DOOR LATCHES WERE ALSO POPPING UP AND DOWN. THE CONSUMER NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER OPENED THE HOOD, THE ENTIRE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED IN THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB
2000 CHEVY K3500,I HAVE HAD 5 TIRES REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY TREAD SEPERATION. NONE OF THEM HAD THE TREAD COME COMPLETELY OFF DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM A SHOP FOREMAN/TECHNICIAN WITH 25 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS AND MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE RELIGIOUSLY. PRESSURE WAS ADJUSTED TO 65 FRONT AND REAR WHEN TOWING. 65 FRONT AND 50 REAR WHEN USING AS A DAILY DRIVER. NONE OF THESE TIRES HAD PUNCTURE REPAIRS DURING THIER USE. THEY ALL SEPERATED IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE, THE OUTSIDE TWO ROWS OF TREAD IS WERE IT WOULD START. FRONT OR BACK IT DIDNT MATTER. THE TRUCK WOULD DEVELOPE A VIBRATION AND I WOULD BRING IT IN AND HAVE THE TIRES CHECKED.THEY WERE AMERITRAC 550 AS 245/75R16. I HAVE WITTNESSED MANY TIRES OF THIS SIZE AND BRAND DEVELOPE THE EXACT SAME CONDITION AND MANY OF THEM WILL BLOWOUT AND DAMAGE THE VEHICLES SEVERLY. I FINALLY REPLACED ALL OF THEM WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND BECAUSE I DIDNT FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THEY WERE SAFE TO TRAVEL OUT OF TOWN ON. I RETAINED THE TIRES THAT CAME OFF WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ONE THAT HAD SEPERATED FOR THE LAST TIME. I WORK FOR ONE OF THOUSANDS OF GM DEALERS ACROSSED THE COUNTRY AND I AM SHOCKED AT THE NUMBER OF TIRES THAT WE SEE WITH DEFECTS. MY CURRENT POSITION IS SHOPFOREMAN AND YES I AM IN CHARGE OF THE TIRE DEPARTMENT. THE OTHER BRAND THAT I SEE ALOT OF WITH COMPLETE TREAD SEPERATION AND THE TIRE IS STILL HOLDING AIR IS THE FIRESTONE STEELTEX 245/75R16. I AM NOTE SURE HOW ALL THE POLITICS WORK BETWEEN THE TIRE MAN. AND THE AUTO MAN. BUT IT SURE SEEMS THAT ALOT OF THIS MUST BE GOING UNCHECKED BY THE AGENCIES THAT ARE REGULATING DEFECTS. I WRITE AS A CONCERNED CITIZEN.*AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2WD LT WITH TOWING PACKAGE. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER TOWED A VEHICLE AND CURRENTLY HAS ONLY 41,835 MILES. ON DECEMBER 29, 2003, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED. I REALLY NEVER HEARD OF A TRANSMISSION FAILING AT 41,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAS THE TOWING PACKAGE AND IS HEAVY DUTY ON THE TRANSMISSION. I NEVER TOWED A CAR WITH THIS TRUCK OR CARRIED LESS THAN 500 LBS IN THE BED. I FEEL THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE REVIEWED BECAUSE I COULD HAVE BEEN TOWING A VEHICLE AND GOING UP AN INCLINE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT A ONE TIME PROBLEM, BECAUSE I HAVE OTHER FRIENDS WITH SILVERADOS THAT ARE REPLACING THEIR TRANSMISSIONS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. A TRANSMISSION BY DESIGN SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 100,000 MILES. I HAVE CONTACTED GM ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THAT THERE IS NO SERVICE BULLETINS OR RECALL. MY INCIDENT IS ISOLATED AND GM IS ONLY WILING TO REPLACE 50% OF THE COST. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK THE TRUCK TO HAD 3 OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I HAVE ANOTHER LOCAL FRIEND WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS ISOLATED??? THE COST OF A NEW TRANSMISSION FROM THE DEALER IS $2400 AND GM IS WILLING TO REIMBURSE YOU 50% OF THAT COST. THE COST IS SO OVERINFLATED THAT THIS IS NOT A FIX. LOCAL SHOPS WILL CHARGE YOU TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION FOR AROUND $1200. I THINK GM, JUST WANTS TO MAKE MONEY ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBING A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVESHAFT CAUSING A CLUNKING NOISE. GM FAILED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND IT CAUSING THESE AUTO TRANSMISSIONS TO FAIL PREMATURELY. MY GUESS IS THAT THE DRIVESHAFT IS NOT THE CORRECT LENGTH AND IS MOVING BACK AND FORTH THUS CAUSING A CLUNKING NOISE. OVER A PERIOD OF TIME THIS WOULD CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL.
2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ABS BRAKES. ON DECEMBER 22, I NOTICED THAT MY ANTILOCK BRAKES WOULD ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL BECAUSE THE ROAD MIGHT OF HAD SOME ICE. ON DECEMBER 26, 2003, I WAS IN THE MALL PARKING LOT TRAVELING 3 TO 5 MILES PER HOUR WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT HARD. I HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET TO KEEP FROM HITTING A PERSON IN THE CROSSWALK. THE PROBLEM IS THAT SOMETIME THE BRAKES WORK FINE GIVING A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. THE DEALER BETLEY CHEVROLET SAID THAT BOTH ABS FRONT SPEED SENSORS ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR COST IS OVER $700. I QUESTION THAT BOTH SENSORS COULD GO AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT IT BEING A SAFETY DEFECT. THIS TRUCK IS 2 WHEEL DRIVE AND HAS NEVER BEEN OFF ROAD. CHEVROLET HAS A BULLETIN FOR THE REPAIR. I QUESTION HOW MANY PEOPLE COULD GET INJURED BEFORE CHEVROLET FIXES THE PROBLEM. *AK
CHEVY, HAS REDESIGNED A CLIP IN THE PARK BRAKES ON THE 2000 SILVERADO TRUCKS. THE ORIGINAL CLIP WAS FOUND TO FAIL WHEN DRIVING ON ROUGH ROADS. THIS ALLOWED THE PARK SHOES TO RUB THE DRUM. THIS CAUSED THE PARK BRAKES TO FAIL AND FORCES THE OWNER TO REPLACE BOTH DRUMS AND BUY THE REDESIGNED CLIP. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED! THERE ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF TRUCKS OUT THERE WITH NO EMERGENCY BRAKE. *JB
PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD, THEREFORE WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER CHEVROLET & GM OWNERS AND THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
PARKING BRAKE STICKS: I BOUGHT VEHICLE AUGUST 2000. WAS CALLED TO ACTIVE DUTY AND DEPLOYED WITH MILITARY FOR 1 YEAR BEGINNING JANUARY 2003. YES, THAT'S LESS THAN THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY. MY WIFE USED THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY AND I HAVE 31,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK AND UPON RETURNING, THE PARKING BRAKE STICKS. I HAVE BURNT OUT 2 SETS OR REAR PADS AND ROTORS. ADDITIONALLY, THE SLOW AND INTERMITTENT PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER STOPPED WORKING AND THE REVERSE/BACKUP LIGHTS DON'T WORK. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND GM AND THEY BOTH TOLD ME "TOO BAD." *JB
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE, TRANSMISSION FAILED. THERE WAS A PART WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION CALLED A SUN SHIELD. THE FIRST TIME TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 83000 MILES, AND THEN AGAIN AT 135, 000 MILES. *AK
THE ANIT LOCK BRAKES ON MY TRUCK ARE ENGAGING ON DRY PAVEMENT AT LOW SPEEDS DURING STOPPING FOR STOP SIGN OR OTHER AND IS NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR COLLISIONS AND ALMOST STRUCK PEDESTRIAN CROSSING STREET. I HAVE PULLED THE ABS FUSE FROM THE PANEL TO DISABLE THE SYSTEM TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE W/OUT ABS. BRAKES WORK FINE BUT NOW NO ABS.
ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WERE PEELING. EACH ROTOR FLAKED OFF AND LEFT PITS IN THE SURFACE. AS A RESULT THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NLM
THIS IS IN REGARDS TO TODAY'S NEWSPAPER ARTICLE ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT'S NEW INVESTIGATION ABOUT GM'S ANTILOCK BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH ITS TRUCKS AND SUVS. MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO STARTED EXPERIENCING ANTILOCK BRAKING PROBLEMS ON DECEMBER 2003. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT WHENEVER I BRAKED SLOWER THAN 10 MPH, THE BRAKES WON'T STOP THE TRUCK UNTIL AFTER IT SLOWED DOWN TO LESS THAN 3 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSATE STRONGLY. THEN AT THAT SPEED THE BRAKES WOULD GRAB VERY HARD. IT WAS REALLY ANNYOING AND DANGEROUS. FOR SOME TIME I NEARLY HIT SOME CARS AHEAD OF ME. ON FEBRUARY 2004 I HAD THE FRONT HUBS, ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT A COST OF $746.60 INCLUDING LABOR AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED OVER A YEAR AGO. THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK WAS 85,000, BUT THE TRUCK WAS BARELY 3 YEARS OLD. FYI, GM MADE A PROFIT OF ABOUT $8,000 WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK, ACCORDING TO INDUSTRY PUBLICATIONS. MULTIPLY THAT BY 1,200,000 AND YOU HAVE A FILTHY PROFITEERING COMPANY ON YOUR HANDS. I WANT MY MONEY REIMBURSED. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A SAFETY PROBLEM IN MY LIFE BEFORE. FOR SETTLEMENT, I DON'T WANT A COUPON FOR BUYING ANOTHER GM TRUCK AT A DISCOUNT. I WANT TO BE REIMBURSED! PLEASE DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS! THE DETROIT PEOPLE MUST BE MADE TO SEE THE ERRORS OF THEIR WAYS AND TO STOP PROFITEERING AT OUR EXPENSE!

ENGINE KNOCKED VERY BADLY AT COLD OR HOT START UPS, IT SOUNDED LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. KNOCKING LASTED FOR 3 TO 4 MINUTES. DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE .*AK 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE KNOCKING DURING START UPS. ENGINE KNOCKING LAST FOR 3 TO 30 SECONDS. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND WITH THE ENGINE.*MR
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH CONSUME R APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT BECAME STUCK. THEN, CONSUMER APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND CONTACTED THE DEALER. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILED, PRICE TO REPLACE OVER $800.00 AND PARTS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM DEALER. NUMEROUS POSTS IN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARDS ABOUT SAME DEFECTIVE PARTS. HAVE CONTACTED GM AT LEAST TWICE BY EMAIL. ABS HAS BEEN INOPERATIVE FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS. *LA
BOTH TAILGATE CABLES ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO FAILED WHEN UNLOADING CARGO (5 GALLON PAILS OF CORN). I CAN SEE THEY WERE RUSTED OUT INSIDE THE PLASTIC CASING ENCLOSING THEM. I INJURED MY LEGS WHEN THE TAILGATE FELL. *LA
BREAK PROBLEMS, TRUCK DOES NOT WANT TO STOP ON OCCASION. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO THE DEALER, AND TO GM, HOWEVER THE DEALER HAS FIXED MY TRUCK, AND IT STILL HAS PROBLEMS, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON IT ( RECALL NUMBER 05068) GM HAS NOT GIVEN ME ANY SATISFACTION, AND WAS VERY RUDE TELLING ME THAT I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE, I AM A 66 YEAR OLD MAN AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING SINCE I WAS 16, I THINK I SHOULD KNOW WHEN MY TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. *NM
DT*: UPDATED 10/25/2006 - EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND THE ENGINE WAS COLD, IT MADE A KNOCKING NOISE, WHICH CONTINUED UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMED UP. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TOT HE SERVICE DEALER WHO SAID THE NOISE WAS CARBON BUILD-UP ON THE PISTON. THE DEALER TRIED RUNNING CLEANER INTO THE ENGINE TWICE BUT THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS PISTON SLAP MAKING THE NOISE AND THAT IT WAS OK TO DRIVE. *NM

THE DRIVER STARTED UP THE VEHICLE WHILE PRESSING DOWN ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE YOKE TO THE TRANSMISSION NEED REPLACING. *PH

WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, AND WITH NO WARNING BRAKE PEDAL GOT STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. CONSUMER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. *AK

REAR PASSENGER DOORTS ON CHEVY SILVERADO EXTENED CAB DO NOT LOCK COMPLETELY IN TEMPERATURES BELOW 30 DEGREES UNTIL HEAT IS DISTRIBUTED IN THE CAB. HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET AN EXPLANATION FROM ANY GENERAL MOTORS EXPERTS OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I CONTEND THAT IT OCCURS BECAUSE BOTH THE TOP & BOTTOM LATCH'S ARE MADE OF PLASTIC/PVC MATERIAL WHICH PRESENTS A POTEIAL SAFETY HAZARD IF WEIGHT IS APPLIED AGAINST THE DOORS, HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ETC. THE INDIACATED DATE BELOW IS ONLY ONE OF SEVERAL DAYS SINCE 2000. *AK
