WHILE DRIVING AND UPON HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD TAILGATE DROPPED DOWN AND THE BELTS BROKE. THE TAILGATE AND STRAP'S WERE TOTALLY DISENGAGED FROM THE VEHICLE. *AK *NM
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE RIGHT BEFORE THE TRUCK COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS INCREASES THE STOPPING DISTANCE BY SEVERAL FEET. IT HAPPENS VERY OFTEN AND ONLY HAPPENS DURING LIGHT BRAKING NEVER UNDER HEAVY BRAKING. *JB
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH JUST OVER 36000 MILES AND HAVE USED IT AS A DAILY-DRIVER. THE ABS BEGAN TO ACTIVATE WHILE MANEUVERING AT LOW SPEEDS. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MORE OFTEN THAN I CAN COUNT. HAS LEAD TO THE VEHICLE RUNNING UP ONTO CURBS/SIDEWALKS. ONE OCCASION HAS CAUSED ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME, AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DEFECTIVE SPEED SENSORS. (THEY DIDN'T REALLY INSPECT IT. THE SPEED SENSORS WERE REPLACED EARLIER THAT WEEK) ENDED UP REPLACING ENTIRE FRONT ASSEMBLIES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WORE OUT. (FUNNY, WAS TOLD THE PLASTIC SPEED SENSORS WORE OUT THE METAL SURROUNDING THEM. AND THEY SHOWED NO WEAR) I HAVE THE ORIGINAL SPEED SENSORS. *JB
THE WAS STANDING ON THE TAILGATE AND WITHOUT WARNING THE TAILGATE CABLE SNAPPED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALE AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. *AK BOTH SUPPORTS WERE HOLDING THE TAILGATE. *SC *JB
OWNER IS CONCERNED ABOUT NOISE IN THE U-JOINT. DEALER SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THAT A NEW YOKE ON THE DRIVE SHAFT IS REQUIRED TO FIX PROBLEM. SERVICE MANAGER ALSO SAYS THEY HAVE REPLACE A LOT OF THOSE AND IS SURPRISED IT HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ITEM. *NM
TRUCK IS HARD TO START IN WARMER WEATHER. IT WILL TURN OVER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL START OR I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO GET SUFFICIENT GAS TO START THE TRUCK. ALSO...SINCE I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK I HAVE HAD DIFFICULTY IN WITH THE GAS PEDAL 'STICKING' AND IT LUNGES BEFORE I BACK OFF THE GAS AND ACCELERATE NORMALLY. IT'S A PAIN AND ONE DAY WILL GET SOMEONE HURT. I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND MY 2000 SILVERADO 2500HD DIDN'T STEER AND I COULDN'T STEER IT . THERE WAS POWER STEERING OIL ON MY GARAGE FLOOR I HAVE 31800 MILES ON THE 6 LITER ENGINE. *NM
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS ENGAGING AT LOW SPEEDS, 5-10 MPH. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED GM, AND THIS VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE TRUCK TO A REPAIR SHOP AND HAD THE TRUCK FIXED. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE HUB BEARING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED, AND THEY SAID THAT IT HAPPENED A LOT. THE BEARING WAS REPLACED ON THE LEFT FRONT, AND THAT SEEMED TO HAVE FIXED THE VEHICLE.*AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON PICKUP. THE DRIVER'S SIDE RUNNING FRONT RUNNING LIGHT OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ILLUMINATE AND HAS NOT WORKED CONSISTENTLY FOR TWO AND HALF YEARS. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME YEAR CHEVROLET PICKUP VEHICLE AND THEY COMPLAIN OF THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING. MANUFACTURER DID NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. COMPLAINTS OF THIS KIND WERE LISTED ON THE INTERNET.*AK
THE CABLES JUST BROKE TODAY ON THE TAILGATE OF MY 2000 SILVERADO WHILE I WAS STANDING ON THE TAIL GATE. THE DESCRIPTION IS EXACTLY AS INVESTIGATED IN THE BELOW. *AK MAKE: CHEVROLET MODEL: SILVERADO YEAR: 2000 NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA04005 SUMMARY: ONE OR BOTH OF THE TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES CAN BREAK DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF METAL FATIGUE AT THE POINT WHERE THE CABLE FLEXES WHEN THE LIFT GATE IS OPENED AND CLOSED. CONCURRENTLY, THE STRENGTH OF THE CABLE DEGRADES OVER TIME DUE TO CORROSION OF THE WIRE STRANDS IN THE SUPPORT CABLES. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND CARGO IS BEING LOADED OR UNLOADED, THE TAILGATE CAN TIP DOWNWARD DISPLACING CARGO AND/OR PEOPLE TO THE GROUND WITHOUT WARNING. THE MAJORITY OF KNOWN INJURIES HAVE RESULTED FROM THE TAILGATE DOWNWARD TIP. ONE ODI COMPLAINT REPORTED THAT THE TAILGATE SEPARATED FROM A MOVING VEHICLE. OWNERS CANNOT EASILY DETECT WHETHER THE SUPPORT CABLES ARE DAMAGED OR CORRODED BECAUSE THE CABLES ARE COVERED BY A PROTECTIVE PLASTIC SHEATH.
TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE BROKEN. *JB
FUEL GAUGE OPERATION IS ERRATIC, HAS BEEN SINCE VEHICLE WAS 2 YEARS OLD. *JB
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE CONSUMER FELT A VIBRATION IN THE PEDAL. THE DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND CLAIMED THAT THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AND THE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER CHECKED THE PADS AND ROTORS AND FOUND THAT THE PADS WERE OK AND THAT THE ROTORS WERE LAMINATED AND CRACKED. *LA *JB
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PCM FUSE ONCE BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK *NM
I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 4X4. I PURCHASED IT USED IN MAY 2003. I LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT THE TRUCK BUT THIS PAST YEAR I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY ABS SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONING. I HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS HAD THE ABS ACTIVATE WHILE THE TRUCK IS GOING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO REAR ENDING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ALSO A TREE AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY. I HAVE SINCE REMOVED THE FUSE FROM THE ABS CIRCUIT TO DIS-ABLE THIS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I RECENTLY NOTIFIED CHEVROLET VIA E-MAIL AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAKE MY TRUCK TO A CERTIFIED GM DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSES OF MY TRUCK. I FEEL AFTER READING SEVERAL THREADS ON CHEVY TRUCK FORUMS THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS FROM THE 90'S TO THE NEWER TRUCKS. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT GM HAS RECALLED TRUCKS IN CANADA BUT HERE IN THE STATES. I AM GOING TO CARRY THROUGH WITH TAKING IT TO A DEALER AND GETING IT DIAGNOSED BUT I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IN THE USA ALSO.
PARKING BRAKE ON 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IS INADEQUATE AND FAILS TO PROTECT THE SAFETY OF ME AND THOSE AROUND ME. THIS VEHICLE'S PARKING BRAKE IS SHORT LIVED AND REQUIRES FREQUENT REPLACEMENT JUST MAINTAIN MINIMAL BRAKING EFFECTIVENES.
THE ACCELERATOR IS SOMETIMES VERY DIFFICULT TO PRESS DOWN. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES, IT CAUSES A SUDDEN LURCHING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.*AK
THE ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH. VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN, BUT THERE WERE NO ANTI LOCK BRAKES. ABS LIGHT SENSOR STAYED ON UNTIL CONSUMER TAPPED ON CONTROL BOARD BOX.*AK
TODAY AND EVERYDAY MY THROTTLE LOCKS UP WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. I HAVE HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS WHEN TRYING TO MANEUVER THROUGH TRAFFIC. I LIVE IN A VERY LARGE CITY AND IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO GO WHEN YOU NEED TO. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN HIT TRYING TO STOMP ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN IT DOESN'T RESPOND AND I AM TRYING TO MOVE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE ALSO NEARLY RAN INTO MANY OBJECTS MOVING, AND STATIONARY, BECOUSE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN THE THROTTLE FINALLY DECIDES TO LET LOOSE. WHY WON'T GM STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND REPAIR THIS? IS IT GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER FIRESTONE TIRE TYPE FIASCO TO GET A RECALL?*AK
TO MUCH PRESSURE NEEDED TO PUSH ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN STARTING OUT FROM IDLE CAUSING VEHICLE TO LURCH SUDDENLY WHETHER IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. THIS IS ESPECIALY DANGEROUS IN A PARKING LOT WHERE PEOPLE MAY BE WALKING BEHIND VEHICLE. DEALER FIX ONLY LASTED TEMPORARILY. THIS PROBLEM IS NOW HAPPENING ON A DAILY BASIS.
WHEN BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS WOULD COME ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP ON SOLID DRY PAVEMENT. UPON MY INVESTIGATION WHAT I FOUND WAS THE FRONT HUB BEARING SEAL RUSTED OUT. THIS CAUSED ROAD SALTS/WATER TO ENTER THE HUB ASSY.. THIS THEN CREATED A RUST THAT GATHERED ON THE MAGNETIC ABS SPEED SENSOR . THE GM CAMPAIGN UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 SAYS THIS IS DUE TO AN EXTERIOR RUST ISSUE. THIS IS NOT WHAT I FOUND ! WHEN THE GM PROCEDURE TO REPAIR THIS IS DONE , IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT TIME BECAUSE THE RUSTED GREASE IS REMOVED FROM THE SENSOR TIP . I REPLACED BOTH FRONT HUB ASSY AND THIS IS NOW NOT A DEFECT . MY COMPLAINT IS THAT MANY HAVE REPORTED THAT , THIS IS A ONE TIME FIX, SO IT IS MY BELIEF GM SOLD THIS QUICK FIX TO NHTSA TO CHEAP OUT ON THE REAL FIX , WHICH IS TO REPLACE THE FRONT HUB ASSY AND USE SEALS WITH A RUST RESISTANT METAL . IT IS A LOT CHEAPER TO REMOVE THE RUST OFF THE SENSOR TIP , THAN TO FIX THE REAL CAUSE WHICH IS A RUSTED DAMAGED HUB ASSY DUE TO POOR METAL QUALITY OF THE GREASE/HUB BEARING SEAL. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES SINCE 1977 INCLUDING VEHICLES WITH ABS BRAKING SYSTEMS . *TR

WHILE OPENING THE TAILGATE, THE CABLES BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT THE TAILGATE DROPPED ABOUT A 1/2 INCH. *AK *JB
THE FRAME WAS CRACKING AROUND THE FRONT WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO SAW THE CRACKS BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE CRACKS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOOK PICTURES AND DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING TO CAUSE THE CRACKS IN THE FRAME. *NM THE CONSUMER USES THE VEHICLE AS A TRASH TRUCK. HE REPLACES THE VEHICLES PARTS FREQUENTLY BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF WEAR THE VEHICLE SUSTAINS. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE FRAME SHOULD NEVER HAVE CRACKED. *NM
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON THE CONSUMER'S 2000 AND 2002 CHEVROLET 1500 SILVERADO FAILED. REFERENCE ODI NO.10115302 FOR THE 2002. *NM THE LEFT SIDE BRAKE INTERNAL BAND HAD WORN THROUGH DOWN TO THE METAL. *JB
2000 CHEVY SILVERADO. A WHILE BACK I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. THEY WOULD ENGAGE AT LOW SPEED AND MAKE IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. A MECHANIC FRIEND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF CORROSION UNDER THE ANTILOCK SENSORS IN THE FRONT WHEEL. HE CLEANED THIS AREA AND THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. NOW THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THIS HAS TO BE A SAFETY VIOLATION ON BEHAVE OF CHEVY. *NM
THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED WHICH MADE THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. *JB
FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS FAILED AT 13,250 MILES, THEN ALL FOUR ROTORSFAILED AGAIN AT 25,300 MILES DUE TO CORROSION. MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE ROTORS AT 25,300 MILES.*AK
BOTH FRONT ABS SENSORS FAILED AT 25,690 MILES. ABS WOULD ENERGIZE AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT.*AK
AFTER FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON TO SAY LOW FUEL, THE GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY. THE CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THE FUEL TANK MAY CAUSE A VEHICLE FIRE. *NM
2000 CHEVY SILVERADO - TAIL GATE COLLAPSE. BOTH SUPPORT CABLES BROKE, WHILE IN TRANSIT. I LOOKED REAL CLOSE AT BOTH SUPPORT CABLES AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE RUSTED THROUGH. I AM GLAD NO ONE WAS HURT. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT FELL OFF. *JB
WHEN APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IT RELEASED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.*AK
TAILGATE CABLE BROKEN ONE SIDE FOUND. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT ABS BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE BRAKES WERE NOT STOPPING PROPERLY. WHEN THE CONSUMER PUSHES THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE CONTINUED GOING. THE ABS WENT OFF, AND THE CAR JUMPED, AND WAS MOVING FORWARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A YEAR. THE CONSUMER TRIED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BUT THE BRAKES WERE STILL HAVING THE PROBLEMS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO , THE CONSUMER CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 05V379000 DUE TO VIN. THE CONSUMER LIVED IN MICHIGAN. THE CONSUMER WAS EMPLOYEED BY GM. THE SPEED WAS 15-25 MPH WHEN THE ABS WOULD KICK IN.*AK
I OWN A CHEVROLET 2500 SILVERADO TRUCK, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE 6.0 LITER ENGINE. THERE ARE THREE BOLTS BROKEN OFF IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD OF THE TRUCK DUE TO WHAT I BELIEVE WAS OVER TORQUING AT THE FACTORY. *AK
MY 5.3 LITER SILVERADO HAS A DIESEL LIKE NOISE IN THE MOTOR UNTIL IT REACHES NORMAL RUNNING TEMPERATURE, THEN IT RUNS GREAT. ITS VERY LOUD THE FIRST 30 SECS. FROM A COLD START. MY LOCAL GM GARAGE SAID THAT IS NORMAL FOR A 4.8 AND A 5.3 MOTOR. THEY CALLED IT PISTON SLAPPING, TO ME IT IS VERY ABNORMAL. AND WILL IT GET WORSE, I ASKED. THEY HAD NO ANSWER. THEY DID COMMENT THAT GM HAS NOT RESOLVED THIS BULLETIN YET. I LOVE MY TRUCK, I HOPE I GET 200K MILES OUT OF IT. NOW I ONLY HAVE 50K . WHAT'S A PERSON TO DO IF THE MAKER OF HIS FAVORITE AUTO CAN'T COME THROUGH WITH A RESOLUTION. IT ALSO AFFECTS RESALE VALUE IF I DECIDE TO SELL. *JB
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. SHE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, IN THE RAIN. UPON ACCELERATING FROM THE LIGHT, THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY BECAME STUCK WIDE OPEN. SHE PUSHED THE CLUTCH, TOOK THE TRUCK OUT OF GEAR AND MANAGED TO PULL SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT, WAS THE AIR DEFLECTOR IN THE THROTTLE BODY. IT BROKE OFF AND FELL INTO THE THROTTLE, WEDGING IT OPEN. DEALER BLAMED POOR MAINTENANCE, USING PREMIUM GAS IN THE TRUCK, AND TOLD HER TO "DRIVE THE SH*T OUT OF IT" THE WAY IT IS. THE TRUCK HAS ALWAYS HAD ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AS RECOMMENDED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL. *AK
UPON STARTING VEHICLE COMPUTER SHOWED CODE B2960 WHICH MEANT ENGINE WON'T START AGAIN, AND WILL TAKE LONGER TO START. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT, AND DEALER COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER AND STILL HAD THE PROBLEM.*AK
THE BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE ABS SYSTEM IS BEING ENGAGED WHEN YOU STOP AND INCREASES THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THE ACCERATOR STICKS. YOU HAVE TO PUSH HARD AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT MAKE THE TRUCK LEAP FOREWARK OR BACKWARD.*AK
ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE AS VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE ROLLING.
THIS OCCURRED ON SATURDAY, 1/31/04. VEHICLE MAKE: 2500 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, 3/4 TON, 6' BED, 6L ENGINE DESCRIPTION: I HAD TO MAKE A TIGHT RIGHT HAND TURN FROM A GAS STATION ONTO THE MAIN ROAD IN SYRACUSE, NEW YORK AS OPPOSING TRAFFIC WAS COMING AT ME. AFTER I COMPLETED THE TURN AND STARTED TO HEAD SOUTH ON THE MAIN FOUR LANE ROAD I IMMEDIATELY FOUND OUT THAT THE POWER STEERING WAS QUITE ROUGH. QUITE ROUGH WAS NOT THE WORD FOR IT AS THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING! ABOUT A BLOCK FROM THAT POINT I HAD TO BRAKE AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE NO POWER ASSISTED BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE. NO IDIOT LIGHTS CAME ON AT ALL AND THIS PRESENTED QUITE A SERIOUS PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WITH THE SNOW PLOW ATTACHED. BOTH THE FLUID IN THE MASTER BRAKE AND POWER STEERING CYLINDERS WERE RIGHT UP TO NORMAL LEVELS AND THE SERPENTINE BELT WAS RELATIVELY NEW AND INTACT! TRUST ME THAT I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS AT ALL FROM A VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 30,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN PLAGUED WITH VARIOUS MAJOR PROBLEMS THROUGHOUT ITS SOMEWHAT YOUTHFUL HISTORY INCLUDING TWO (2) FULL BRAKE JOBS TO DATE. I'M JUST THANKFUL THAT NO ONE WAS HURT INCLUDING MYSELF. I WANT THIS LETTER TO BE RELAYED TO THE CHEVROLET ZONE MANAGER AND I WOULD LIKE THEIR INPUT ON THE ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN PRESENTED. AS A CONSUMER THERE IS NO WAY THAT BOTH THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES SHOULD HAVE GONE AT THE SAME TIME, PLUS, THE FACT THAT THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF A MAJOR PROBLEM FROM THE MESSAGE CENTER OR DASHBOARD. THERE VERY EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT ENDING TO THIS STORY ESPECIALLY WITH THE TYPE OF WINTER WEATHER AND ROAD CONDITIONS WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AS OF LATE HERE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK. *JB
THE CABLE HOLDING UP MY SPARE TIRE ON MY 2000 Z-71 SILVERADO PICKUP BROKE, DROPPING THE SPARE TIRE ONTO THE ROAD. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A ROAD EARLY IN THE MORNING JUST PULLING THROUGH A INTERSECTION AND WASN'T PULLING MY HORSE TRAILER. *AK
WHILE TURNING RIGHT POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. NO IMPACT REPORTED. THE DEALER STATED POWER STEERING PUMP MALFUNCTIONED. *AK
MY SON REAR ENDED A SEMI-TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCK IN A SNOW STORM LAST WEEK. HE WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. AIR TEMPS PREVIOUS WEEK WERE IN THE -20 TO -40 RANGE. TEMPERATURE AT TIME OF ACCIDENT WAS -15. I RAISE THIS AS INDICATED BELOW. *AK MY CONCERNS ARE: 1. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WAS $6000 DAMAGE TO OUR 2004 CHEVY K2500 CREW CAB PICK-UP TO INCLUDE GRILL, RADIATOR, BOTH QUARTER PANELS, HOOD, BUMPER AND FORWARD ENGINE COMPONENTS. THE IMPACT SPEED WAS ESTIMATED AT 25 MPH. THAT SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THE BAG. I REALIZE THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND MY INSURANCE WOULD HAVE COVERED THE BAG, BUT I THINK (AS DID EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAVE SEEN THE DAMAGE) THAT THE BAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. 2. ABS SYSTEM FAILED. TRUCK REAR END SLID TO RIGHT TOWARD TRAFFIC. MY SON WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. CHOICE OF IMPACT WAS EITHER INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC, OFF ROAD DOWN DEEP HILL INTO FOREST OR REAR END TRUCK. NOTE: OTHER OWNERS IN AREA OF THE 1999-2000 PICK-UP SERIES HAVE ALSO HAD ABS SYSTEM FAILED. LOCAL DEALERS ARE AWARE OF FAILURE AROUND 100,000 MILE MARK BUT SAY THAT IT IS NORMAL. ABS LIGHT IS NOW ON. SIDE NOTE - WE HAVE HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO DIFFERENT DEALERS. PROBLEMS INCLUDE ONGOING SHORT IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN COLD WEATHER, 4 WHEEL DRIVE FAILS TO DISENGAGE ALTHOUGH LIGHT ON DASH SAYS IT HAS (DISCOVERED AT LOCAL REPAIR SHOP), COMPUTER FAILURE ON DEALER INSTALLED EQUIPMENT (NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS AN OPTION).
WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. CONSUMER WAS STANDING ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN, AND IT COLLIDED WITH THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE. CONSUMER SUSTAINED ANKLE AND THE LOWER BACK INJURIES. *AK
WHILE BRAKING BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO FRONT BRAKE ROTORS BEING RUSTED. *AK
I OWN A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO EXT. CAB. I'M RETIRED AND DRIVE THE TRUCK ABOUT 1000 MILES A YEAR OR SO. IN JANUARY 2004 TO PASS THE NEW YORK STATE INSPECTION I NEEDED TO HAVE THE ENTIRE REAR AXLE BRAKE ASSEMBLY FROM THE AXLE BEARING'S OUT REPLACED. AT THE TIME I HAD BETWEEN 6000 AND 7000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THE COST WAS ALMOST $800.00 NOW ON MAY 4 2012 WITH 23,400 MILES ON THE TRUCK, I NEEDED TO HAVE THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED, COST APPROXIMATELY $400.00! I HAD BOTH REPAIRS DONE BY A QUALIFIED ACE MECHANIC, WHO ALSO IS A FRIEND OF THE FAMILY SO HE CAN BE TRUSTED! I ALSO WANT TO ADD THERE IS NOT A SPECK OF RUST ON ANY OF THE BODY PANELS, AND THE UNDER CARRIAGE IS RINSED FREQUENTLY. THIS TRUCK IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. *TR
I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR A ROUTINE BRAKE JOB AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT ALL 4 OF MY ROTORS WERE RUSTED OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS DEFINITELY UNUSUAL FOR ROTORS TO RUST OUT SO SOON. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AT THIS POINT. IN HIS OPPINION, GM USES SHODDY ROTORS ON THEIR VEHICLES. I SAW THE ROTORS AND PIECES OF THEM WERE CHIPPED AWAY DUE TO BEING SO RUSTED OUT. I BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL.*AK
