COLD, UNHEATED, OUTSIDE AIR LEAKS INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL WHEN THE TRUCK IS DRIVEN ON COLD DAYS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY THE DEALER MANY TIMES AND THEY HAVE MADE THE SITUATION BETTER BY WRAPPING FOAM AROUND THE HEATERBOX AND AIRCONDITIONING DUCTWORK BUT YOUR LEGS STILL GET VERY COLD ON COLD DAYS WHILLE SETTING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THEY'VE JUST TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO UNLESS GM SENDS THEM A REDESIGNED/IMPROVED PART THAT CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. I FIND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT A $30,000 TRUCK CANNOT PROVIDE A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR ITS OWNERS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON A COLD NIGHT AND IT SEEMS THAT GM MAY NOT BE WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS. WHILE DISCUSSING THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALER SERVICE TECH. HE MENTIONED THAT MANY OF THE SILVERADOS, TAHOES AND YUKONS HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM AND ALL THE DEALER CAN DO IS WRAP THE HEATER AND DUCTWORK WITH THE FOAM AS THEY'VE ALREADY DONE TO MINE UNTIL GM DECIDES TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM.
THROTTLE IS STICKING. CONSUMER WAS TRYING TO PARK THROTTLE GOT STUCK, SENDING VEHICLE INTO THE BUILDING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY.*AK
CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL CRASH OF 30 MPH, AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DEALER DID NOT CHECK VEHICLE, BECAUSE GM WOULD NOT GIVE THEM PERMISSION. *AK *JG
THE DRIVER DOOR IS OVER SIZED AT THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER. THE GAP BETWEEN THE EXTENDED CAB DOOR AND DRIVER DOOR IS VERY SMALL. WHEN CLOSING THE DRIVER DOOR, THE EXTENDED CAB DOOR SHUTTERS. *YH
WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAG ON DRIVER/PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT DEPLOY, DRIVER WAS INJURED. *AK *YH
CONSUMER STATES THAT ENGINE BLOCK AND THE PISTON ARE MADE OUT OF TWO DIFFERENT KINDS METAL. SO THE HEAT EXPANSION OF THE TWO ARE NOT COMPATIBLE,CAUSING ENGINE COLD CRANKING KNOCK. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. *MR

THE DRIVE TRAIN SHUDDERS EXCESSIVELY WHEN SWITCHED INTO AUTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. I NOTICED THIS PRIOR TO THE END OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD BUT JUST FORGOT ABOUT TAKING IT IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE AS I JUST STOPPED USING THE AUTO FOUR WHEEL FEATURE. IT STARTED AT OR ABOUT 30,000 MILES, THE TRUCK HAS 66,000 NOW AND I AM SURE THE DEALER WON'T LISTEN TO ME, JUST MY WALLET. I'LL PUT THIS TO THE TEST NEXT WEEK ON MY VACATION.
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK CONSUMERS WIFE WAS STANDING OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE WHEN TURNED ON IGNITION, AND PAWL JUMPED FROM PARK INTO REVERSE. VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS, DRAGGING WIFE WITH THE DOOR OPEN. VEHICLE STOPPED AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. *AK CONSUMER FEELS ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY PARK OR NEUTRAL SWITCH. *SLC

WHILE DRIVING DURING A COLD OR WARM START, ENGINE WILL START MAKING LOUD CLICKING NOISES COMING FROM VALVES. CONSUMER HAS TO WARM UP ENGINE BEFORE DRIVING IT EVERY DAY TO TRY TO AVOID NOISE. DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE WHERE NOISE WAS COMING FROM. *AK *TT
THIS TIRE FAILURE IS THE 2ND ON THIS VEHICLE. THE OUTER TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE AND THE STEEL BELTS CAME APART. INSPECTION BY SEARS TIRE CENTER IN ROCKY MOUNT, NC ALSO FOUND A THIRD TIRE READY TO SEPARATE. HAD PREVIOUS INCIDENT ON 4/26/2001 AND FILED WITH NHTSA ON 4/30/2001. REF ODI#744753. I EMAILED CONTINENTAL TIRE HQ BUT THEY WILL NOT RESPOND. NOW REMOVED ALL THESE TIRES FROM VEHICLE AND PURCHASED NEWW BRAND. HAVE ALL 5 GENERALS IN MY POSSESSION FOR INSPECTION. (TIRESIZE: LT24575R16)

SHE HAD TO EXERT MORE FORCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER NINE TIMES WHERE BRAKE LINES, ROTORS AND OTHER BRAKING COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WROTE A LETTER TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.

OUR TRUCK HAS BEEN TO TONY CHEVROLET FOR THE BRAKE SYSTEM PROBLEMS 3 TIMES. WHEN BRAKING ANYTIME ON A BUMPY ROAD THE ABS SYSTEM KICKS IN RESULTING IN LOSS OF STOPPING POWER AND CAUSING A NEAR ACCIDENT. DURING ALASKA WINTER MONTHS, THE ABS SYSTEM IS OVER SENSITIVE AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE TRUCK STOP IN A TIMELY FASHION. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE ABS KICKS IN, THE BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD AND PUSHS BACK AGAINST YOUR FOOT. TONY CHEVROLET STATES THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS ACTING NORMAL. THERE FAVORITE TERM IS "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE CONDITION AT THIS TIME" I WENT TO ANOTHER GM DEALERSHIP WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THEY ALSO STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. WHEN SERVICE TECHS. HOOK UP TO THE TRUCKS COMPUTER AND THE COMPUTER SYSTEM DOESN'T SHOW ANY FAULT CODES, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THERE ISN'T SOMETHING WRONG. TWICE THIS CONDITION HAS JUST ABOUT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER CAR. I WONDER HOW MANY ACCIDENTS HAVE TO OCCUR BEFORE GM DOES SOMETHING ABOUT THESE DEFECTS? STARTING IN LATE 2001 THE FUEL GAUGE STARTED FLUCTUATING FROM FULL TO EMPTY AND ANYWHERE IN BETWEEN EVEN AFTER FILLING THE TANK. CHEVY SERVICE MANAGER SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AND WOULD COST ABOUT $400 TO REPAIR. SINCE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, CHEVROLET SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. *NM
SINCE WE PURCHASED THE TRUCK WE'VE HAD NUMEROUS TROUBLES WITH THE SEATBELTS LOCKING UP AND GETTING TIGHTER UNTIL WE HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RELEASE THE BELT BUCKLE. MOST TIMES IT HAPPENS TO THE REAR SEATBELTS AND FROM TIME TO TIME THE FRONT SEATBELTS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM STARTS WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND HIT A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD OR A FROST HEAVE AND THE SEATBELTS LOCK UP. WE'VE TRIED TO GENTLY PULL ON THE SHOULDER STRAP TO LOOSEN THE BELT, WE'VE TRIED TO JERK ON THE SHOULDER STRAP AND THE ONLY THING THAT WILL LOOSEN THE BELTS IS PUSHING THE RELEASE BUTTON. IF WE DRIVE OFF ROAD TO OUR CAMPING AREA(WE DON'T NEED TO USE 4 WD) THE BELTS HAVE GOTTEN SO TIGHT THAT THE RELEASE BUTTON WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO RELEASE. WE FACE THE PROBLEM OF WHETHER OR NOT TO USE THE SEATBELTS WHEN DRIVING OFF ROAD. WE HAVE TO STOP EVERY 5 MINUTES OR SO TO RELEASE THE SEATBELTS WHEN OFF ROADING. SINCE WE HAVE TWO CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEATS THEY MUST STAY BUCKLED IN. EVEN DRIVING DOWN GRAVEL ROADS WHICH IS ALMOST A DAILY OCCURRENCE LIVING IN OUR AREA OF ALASKA, IT'S A ROYAL PAIN TO HAVE TO STOP AND UNBUCKLY THE BELTS. WE'VE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WE ALWAYS GOT THEIR STANDARD ANSWER "CANNOT DUPLICATE CUSTOMER CONCERNS AT THIS TIME" THEY FINALLY TOLD ME TO BRING THE TRUCK IN WHEN THE BELTS ARE LOCKED UP SO THEY CAN SEE THE PROBLEM. SO WE DID VISIT THE SERVICE DEPT WITH 3 BELTS LOCKED UP AND THEY TOLD ME "NO PROBLEM, WE'LL ORDER NEW BELTS".THEY CALLED ME A DAY OR SO LATER AND INFORMED ME THAT THE SEATBELTS ARE DESIGNED THAT WAY. THE SEATBELTS ARE CALLED "RATCHETING SEATBELTS AND THE ONLY WAY TO PREVENT THE BELTS FROM LOCKING UP IS TO PULL THE SEATBELTS OUT AS FAR AS THEY GO AND THEN BUCKLE UP." WE'VE TRIED WHAT THE SERVICE DEPT SUGGESTED AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. SO NOW WE'RE AT A STAND OFF. MY HUSBAND CRAIG WAS IN COLLIDED HEAD ON INTO THE SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE DOING ABOUT 35 TO 40MPH. HE HIT THE FRONT HARD ENOUGH TO TOTAL THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK AND SHOVE THE ENGINE BACK SEVERAL INCHES. THE FRAME IS ALSO BENT. WE BELIEVE THE TRUCK WILL BE QUALIFIED AS TOTALLED. DISPITE THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CRAIG HAD HIS SEAT BELT ON SO WAS ONLY BRUISED AND SORE AFTER THE ACCIDENT. WE ARE CONSERNED WITH THE AIRBAG FAILURE. WHAT IF THERE HAD BEEN A PASSENGER OR CERCUMSTANCES WOULD HAVE REQUIRED THEM? *AK

COULDN'T FIND ANY LEAK, ADDED COOLANT, THIRD VISIT REPLACED PART OF AIR CONDITIONER, 1 YEAR LATER FAILING TO COOL AGAIN, SOME VALVE WAS STUCK, $70 NOW THAT WARRANTY IS UP, RESISTER NOT WORKING CORREXCTLY, ONLY WORKS ON HIGHEST TWO OPTIONS, WANTED TO CHARGE ANOTHER $100 FOR REPLACEMENT, CAN'T AFFORD. 2000 GEO METRO, ROGER DEAN CHEVROLET IS NOT EXACTLY A GOOD AIR CONDITIONER ANYWAY, NOT VERY COOL WHEN WORKING RIGHT. *LA
I HAD A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE. I PULLED MY TIRE AND SAW THERE WAS NOT ANY INSIDE BRAKE PAD. THE OUTER BRAKE PAD SEEMED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE. I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE REAR ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE PADS, GMC SENT OUT NOTICES TO DEALERS THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER PADS PAST 20,000 MILES. IT WAS STATED THAT THE ROTORS HAD RUSTED AND PITTED, THUS RIPPING THE PADS APART. I HAD MY FRONT ROTORS REPLACED ON 09/13/2001. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM HERE. IT WAS CAUGHT BEFORE THE ROTORS DESTROYED MY BRAKE PADS. AGAIN THE ROTORS WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, THE PADS DID NOT GET REPLACED THIS TIME.*AK

WE PURCHASED THIS CHEVROLET DUALLY TRUCK IN NOV 00. THE TWO FRONT TIRES HAD EXCESSIVE WEAR AND WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER AFTER TWO WEEKS OF TRYING TO LOCATE THEM. WE HAVE FOUND THAT GOODYEAR NO LONGER MAKES THESE TIRES. THE TRUCK WAS MFG 03/00 AND THE TIRES HAVE A DOT # THAT INDICATED THE TIRES WERE MFG 07/00. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN REPLACEMENTS SHOULD WE HAVE A BLOWOUT. UNDERSTAND A CLASS ACTION SUIT WAS FILED DEC 01 RE THESE TIRES. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS GIVEN US THE RUNAROUND FOR THE LAST FOUR WEEKS AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES (TOTAL OF 7 ON THE TRUCK). I DON'T BELIEVE THE TRUCK SAT FOR FOUR MONTHS WITH NO TIRES IN THE BEGINNING. CLANKING NOISE IN DRIVELINE AND HAD IT TO DEALER COUPLE OF TIMES. THEY PUT GREASE ON THE DRIVESHAFT YOKE AND TOOK CARE OF PROBLEM FOR A MONTH OR SO AND NO IT IS DOING IT AGAIN AND WAS TOLD BY DEALER THERE IS A NEW YOKE THAT IS NICKEL PLATED. OF COURSE IT COST ALMOST $200.00 AND TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SO NOW I AM STUCK PAYING FOR THE REPAIR. *LA

DEALER KEEPS REBALANCING THE TIRES AND THIS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE PICKUP WILL BE IN THE DEALER'S SHOP AGAIN THIS WEEK, ONLY THIS TIME THEY ARE LOOKING FOR DRIVETRAIN PROBLEMS. THE CLUTCH MADE A LOUD POPPING NOISE WHEN LET OUT, AND SLIPPING UNDER LOAD, THE DEALER FOUND THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER SHAFT WAS WORN CAUSING THROW OUT BEARING TO WOBBLE AND MAKE NOISE, THROUGH OUT BEARING ALSO SCORED, DEALER REPLACED PRESSURE PLATE, CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY AND SLAVE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, CONSUMER ALSO STATES VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT FROM REVERSE.NLM
THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES ON MY 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HAVE REQUIRED NUMEROUS REPLACEMENTS. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES EVERY YEAR BEFORE HAVING MY TRUCK INSPECTED. EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED, THE PARKING BRAKE BARELY HOLDS ON EVEN THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE. *TR
